Continetti: Anti-Semitism ‘Has Become a Serial Offense’ for Omar

Washington Free Beacon editor in chief Matthew Continetti said anti-Semitism has become a "serial offense" for Rep. Ilhan Omar (D., Minn.), who created another scandal for herself over the weekend.

"Omar has a track record. She had a track record in Minneapolis. Many Jewish leaders were concerned about her statements then," Continetti said during an appearance on MSNBC’s "Meet the Press Daily" Wednesday. "This has become a serial offense for her."

Continetti pointed out that anti-Semitism is both a serial offense for Omar and a problem for other freshman Democratic representatives.

"She had that tweet about Israel hypnotizing the world," Continetti continued. "It’s not just her. It’s also Rashida Tlaib. It’s also Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez who praised Jeremy Corbyn who is friendly to Hezbollah. This is a problem for the Democratic Party."

"The political consequences of the Democratic Party being associated with political anti-Semitism are huge," he added. "There’s a battle that’s just beginning in the Democratic Party."

Host Chuck Todd said Continetti "took us off track" and argued anti-Semitism is "sadly surfacing on the fringe left and the fringe right."

"It’s on the fringe right," Continetti said. "It is now being imported through socialist politics—which I think is an interesting development—through socialist politics into the Democratic Party."

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D., Calif.) has had trouble dealing with her party’s anti-Semitic strains, Continetti argued.

"Nancy Pelosi had a horrible week, she has spent the whole week cleaning up after Ilhan Omar. Is that how she’s going to spend her Congress?" he said.

Todd asked about the "larger" political picture on a spectrum between Omar and Rep. Steve King (R., Iowa) and asked what should be done about.

"You should vote them out," Continetti answered, praising Republicans for stripping King of his committee assignments.

"He should be primaried and he should be voted out, and the Democrats now need to take similar steps with Omar. She’s going to say this again, she’s going to say this again. This is what she believes," Continetti said.

Omar was forced to apologize on Monday for anti-Semitic tweets she sent out over the weekend. She responded liberal journalist Glenn Greenwald, who was criticizing House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R., Calif.) for threatening punishment against Omar and fellow anti-Israel Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D., Mich.). "It’s all about the Benjamins baby," she tweeted.

In another tweet, she alleged AIPAC is paying politicians to be pro-Israel.

Tlaib supports the anti-Israel Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement, has said she would vote against aid to Israel, and has a history of praising Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan, who has called Jews "termites."

Ocasio-Cortez touted a conversation she had with British Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn earlier this month. Corbyn once appeared at a memorial for terrorists who killed 11 Israelis at the 1972 Munich Olympics. In 2009, referred to Hamas and Hezbollah as his "friends," although he later apologized.
