Germans, Danes, and Finns Join Salvini’s Populist ‘Supergroup’

Populist Interior Minister Matteo Salvini has added several new parties to his European Parliament alliance, announcing the inclusion of conservatives and populists from Finland, Denmark, and Germany.

The populist “supergroup” set to be headed by the Italian deputy prime minister also contains the Danish People’s Party (DF), the populist Alternative for Germany (AfD), and the True Finns party, with Salvini meeting with key figures from all three parties in Milan on Monday, Il Giornale reports.

The new additions come after Salvini had already secured the cooperation for the Austrian Freedom Party (FPÖ) and the French National Rally (RN) led by former presidential candidate Marine Le Pen.

Salvini announced that his new group would set their sights on the goal of a “new Europe” and accused “bureaucrats and do-gooders” of “burying the European dream.”

One of the main pillars of the group will be combatting mass illegal migration, with every party that has signed on already having anti-mass migration policies in their party manifestos.

Salvini also highlighted the threat of radical Islamic terrorism during the conference saying, “the danger for Europe does not come from the past, but from Islamic terrorism.”

He also gave his stance on Turkey’s future relationship with the European Union saying the country “will never be in Europe.”

The Danish People’s Party’s top candidate for the European Parliament Peter Kofod commented on the summit saying, “We have been thinking a lot about forming a group that more closely unites some of the common interests of national conservative parties.

“The intention is that after the election, we will start negotiations with a view to forming a new, large group of parties that are similar to us.”

“We want to fight the current EU federalism. EU co-operation can move two ways: There is Macron’s path that goes towards a federal superstate with social union, common defence, etc. And then there is the Europe of nations that is about securing the influence and interests of the nation states,” Kofod added.

Donald Trump Slams Ninth Circuit Judge for Blocking Border Enforcement

President Donald Trump criticized a San Francisco judge for blocking his policy to require migrants requesting asylum to remain in Mexico, rather than be released into the United States to await their court hearing.

“A 9th Circuit Judge just ruled that Mexico is too dangerous for migrants,” Trump wrote on Twitter. “So unfair to the U.S. OUT OF CONTROL!”

Judge Richard Seeborg blocked the new set of rules after a group of asylum seekers and their advocates sued the federal government.

According to the Seeborg, the policy fails to protect the migrants from “risk to their lives” during their stay in Mexico.

White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders also criticized the judge.

“A liberal activist judge in San Francisco ruled the United States and Mexico can’t work together to address asylum issues at the border,” she wrote on Twitter. “It’s sad that Mexico is now doing more to secure our border than Democrats.”

…Meanwhile, Trump’s approval soars — now hitting 53%

The Mueller report is ove. The economy is simply humming.

And President Trump’s job approval rating, according to Rasmussen’s daily tracking, is now 53%.

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Tuesday shows that 53% of Likely U.S. Voters approve of President Trump’s job performance. Forty-five percent (45%) disapprove.

The latest figures include 37% who Strongly Approve of the job Trump is doing and 36% who Strongly Disapprove. This gives him a Presidential Approval Index rating of +1. (see trends).

That’s a figure that corresponds with President Trump’s economic performance. The U.S. jobless rate, for instance, just printed out at 3.8%.

And it’s also a number to give President Trump’s presidential rivals for 2020 a distinct cause for indigestion.

Lastly, it’s also a change. Up until now, the president’s approval ratings have always been below water. Now, when it counts, they’re heading for landslide numbers territory.

Rasmussen doesn’t go into details as to why the public seems to be warming to President Trump, so it’s fun for the rest of us to speculate on why this sudden turnaround has happened. I’ll give a few theories:

The economy of course. With 3.8% unemployment and optimism up, it’s a recipe for presidential approval numbers to rise. Note the previous cool detail that Latino and Black support are up, with Latino support above 50% from past polls. Something is being done right.

The Mueller special counsel’s investigation is over and President Trump has been cleared of the collusion-with-Russia rap. That hasn’t persuaded Democrats such as the perpetually dazed-looking Rep. Adam Schiff to let go of that smelly old bone, but that’s the beauty of it. The fact that they can’t let go or give it a rest is precisely why the public is siding with Trump.

The 2020 presidential race itself. With Democrats presenting a clown car full of candidates, each of a different color and all of the same flavor, all of them promoting the same old stale socialism of the 1960s academic world, who could be against Trump?

The behavior of the crazy Democrats, the so-called ‘vanguard’ – with their wild promotion of a “green new deal,” (Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez) their anti-semitism, (Rep. Ilhan Omar) and their profanity (Rep. Rashida Tlaib), the Democrats are coming off as out of touch and living in lunacy land. It doesn’t help that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is unable to rein them in. The very inability to rein them in makes the Republican candidate that much more attractive than the Democratic candidate on discipline grounds alone. It’s worth noting too that the vanguard is sucking the air out of political airtime of the Democratic moderates who were elected in red districts, undercutting them.

The border. President Trump’s steadfast and reasonable bid to gain control of the U.S. border has moved to the front of the national debate – and the public is with him. The crazy steps the Democrat have taken to haul in all comers to the U.S. side, vetted or not, is a vote-loser for Democrats. Trump by contrast, has held firm.

There may be other reasons, and it’s all good. Whatever they are, Trump is doing something right.

And that has got to be driving the left bonkers.

MSNBC, CNN Spreads False Impression that Trump Called Immigrants ‘Animals’

A CNN news anchor and three MSNBC guests spread the false impression on the air that President Donald Trump referred to immigrants as "animals" last week.

The confusion stemmed from an unverified Twitter user identified as Mark Elliott, who tweeted out a short clip of Trump Friday and accused him of referring to asylum seekers by the insulting moniker.

However, the clip was from May 2018, and Trump was responding to a question about the transnational street gang MS-13. Nevertheless, multiple news outlets and politicians ran with the idea he had referred to all immigrants as "animals" last year as well.

Despite the clip being old and well-known in political circles due to its litigation last year, dozens of politicians—including presidential candidates–journalists, and celebrities shared the tweet and expressed outrage over it.

It spilled over onto television, too, with CNN anchor Jim Sciutto asking a Republican guest Monday morning if Trump was helpful on border policy when "referring to immigrants as animals."

Center for American Progress President Neera Tanden said on MSNBC Friday night that "this afternoon" Trump had referred to people coming across the border as "animals." Former Democratic National Committee CEO Jess O’Connell told MSNBC on Saturday, "You saw just this week, he compared immigrants to animals."

Also on Saturday, liberal Daily Beast writer Jonathan Alter referred to Trump’s comments "yesterday" as "truly shameful."

"He compared people going to the border to animals," Alter said. "Now anybody who has studied any history knows that when you start calling people animals, when you dehumanize them that way, that’s when the killing begins."

Sciutto and MSNBC spokespersons did not respond to Free Beacon requests for comment on whether they would correct the record.

Elliott deleted the viral tweet on Monday and apologized for not being "more accurate."

MSNBC Frets That GOP Jews Are Embracing ‘Nazi’-Like Trump Rhetoric

On Sunday’s Up with David Gura on MSNBC, during a panel discussion of President Donald Trump criticizing U.S. immigration policy during a speech to the Republican Jewish Coalition, host Gura invited Lynn Sweet — Washington bureau chief of the Chicago Sun-Times — to complain about Jews who have responded favorably to Trump’s rhetoric that was earlier in the segment likened to Nazi Germany.

Joe Crowley Had Dirt On Ocasio-Cortez – But Didn’t Think He Needed To Use It

Should have used it. Via Daily Caller: Former Democratic Congressman Joe Crowley reportedly could have shoveled political dirt on current New York Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, but decided to say nothing about it. Crowley, who was expected to win his congressional nomination with ease, lost in a stunning upset. He was either apparently confident during […]

Nunes files $150-million lawsuit against McClatchy alleging conspiracy in Clinton probe

Rep. Devin Nunes filed a $150 million lawsuit against The McClatchy Company alleging that the news service conspired with a political operative to derail his oversight work into the Clinton campaign and Russia probe.

Fox News:

The filingobtained by Fox News, came a day after Nunes, R-Calif., revealed he would send eight criminal referrals to the Justice Department this week concerning purported surveillance abuses by federal authorities during the Russia probe, false statements to Congress and other matters.

In March, Nunes filed a similar $250 million lawsuit alleging defamation against Twitter and one of its users, Republican consultant Liz Mair. In Monday’s complaint, Nunes again named Mair as a co-defendant, charging this time that she conspired with McClatchy reporter MacKenzie Mays to spread a variety of untruthful and misleading smears — including that Nunes “was involved with cocaine and underage prostitutes” — online and in print.

Reached for comment late Monday, Mair directed Fox News to a USA Today op-ed she penned earlier this week concerning Nunes’ previous lawsuit entitled, “Free speech means I don’t have to be nice to Devin Nunes on Twitter. So why’s he suing me?”

A spokesperson for McClatchy told Fox News late Monday: “We have no comment and stand behind the strong reporting of The Fresno Bee,” the McClatchy-owned publication cited throughout Nunes’ lawsuit.

Nunes acknowledges the danger in suing the press but says Mair and McClatchy went beyond their roles as journalists to smear him.

“They need to retract everything they did against me, but they also need to come clean with the American people,” Nunes told Fox News’ “Hannity” Monday night. “Retract all of their fake news stories. This is part of the broader clean-up. Remember, a few weeks ago, I filed against Twitter — they’re censoring conservatives. McClatchy is one of the worst offenders of this. But we’re coming after the rest of them. I think people are beginning to wake up now, I’m serious — I’m coming to clean up the mess.”

The complaint filed on Monday specifically cited a May 23, 2018 article published by the Fresno Bee and written by Mays, entitled, “A yacht, cocaine, prostitutes: Winery partly owned by Nunes sued after fundraiser event.”

The article described a lawsuit’s allegations of a 2015 party aboard the yacht involving “25 of the Napa Valley-based [Alpha Omega Winery]’s top investors, all men — [who] were openly using what appeared to be cocaine and ‘drawing straws’ for which sex worker to hire.”

Nunes has an uphill battle to prove his case and it wouldn’t be surprising if a judge tossed the whole thing. But he has the right idea. Put people on notice that these sorts of actions have no place in the democratic process whether the offenders are journalists or not.

Defamation law prohibits not only provably false statements but also heavy implications of falsities that harm defendants’ reputations. However, public figures like Nunes must meet a high bar to prove defamation and must demonstrate that the defendants recklessly or intentionally spread falsehoods, rather than merely negligently.

Can he prove that the falsehoods were “reckless and intentional”?

In his complaint, Nunes alleged that regardless, defamation law should not shield what he called a knowing and deliberate effort to “destroy” his reputation. “Indeed, the entire purpose of every element of the Yacht/Cocaine/Prostitutes article – the headline, the photo, the film clips, and the text itself – is to link Nunes to an event that McClatchy actually knew before publication he had no involvement with,” the complaint stated.

Again, the likelihood of success for Nunes is low. But discovery in this suit should be very uncomfortable for those being sued.
