Questions I Would Have Asked the Democrats

The likelihood I would ever be invited to serve on a network panel questioning the Democratic presidential candidates is equivalent to an invitation to take the next trip to the moon. Still, as I tortured myself watching the two “debates,” which were not really debates, but mostly a show of memorized sound bites, I thought of unasked questions that ought to have been put to them all

How Washington Post Celebrates the 4th: ‘Fireworks Are Actually Kind of Terrible’

At least The Washington Post proudly admits it’s a buzzkill. Atop Caitlin Gibson’s July 1 Post piece about Independence Day fireworks was a sentence in italicized text that announced it was “[p]art of a series of stories calling into question the supposed joys of summer.” All right, fair enough. Above that text was the less-all-right,…

Think Infanticide Isn’t Real? Bombshell Doc Proves it Happened 3 Times in One State

For the 69th time, Democrats last week blocked a vote on legislation that would mandate the provision of medical care and treatment for babies who survive abortions. Similar legislation has been brought up by Republicans and rejected by Democrats 66 times in the House and twice in the Senate. Michigan Rep. Jack Bergman proposed “a…

Unanimous Vote Deals Humiliating Blow to Broward County Sheriff’s Office

The embarrassment continues to pile on for the Broward County Sheriff’s Office in Florida. Last week, a unanimous 13-0 vote by the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation stripped the Broward Sheriff’s Office of its certificate. According to PoliceOne, the poor handling of the tragic Parkland school shooting in 2018 and the 2017 shooting at…

CLASSY: Leftist Protesters to Bring Giant Robot of Trump Tweeting on the Toilet to DC’s 4th of July Celebrations

In addition to the infamous ‘Baby Trump’ blimp, leftist activists are now also planning to bring a large robot of President Donald Trump tweeting from the toilet to DC’s “Salute to America” Fourth of July celebrations.

The robot, called “Dumping Trump,” was first used at protests in London and is a creation of Don Lessem, the founder of the Jurassic Foundation.

Lessem told the leftist blog the Daily Kos that his goal with the robot is to “create this year’s attention-getting and bile-producing sequel to the Trump baby balloon, and one that could be more easily deployed at rallies all over the world.”

The figure appears to tweet while making farting noises and saying phrases such as “No collusion,” “I’m a very stable genius” and “you are fake news.”

“When not on the links, Trump apparently spends most of his time on the can tweeting, so I figured to pay full tribute to him he’d have to be positioned on a golden toilet. For his own safety, we thought to put his overlong tie into the toilet itself,” Lessem told the Daily Kos. “He’s tweeting of course, and his mouth moves to utter deathless quotes in his own voice …. His Make America Great Again cap is subtitled ‘Impeach Me’ — as if we needed a reminder.”

The left-wing Anti-War organization Code Pink also raised money to bring the Baby Trump blimp to the festivities. Unfortunately for them, the city has announced that they will not be allowed to put helium in it.

“This 4th of July, CODEPINK will host a festival on the National Mall from 2-6 p.m. to protest the Trump administration’s politicization of our national holiday,” the group said in a release. “The anti-war organization will be featuring the Trump Baby Blimp, made famous in the UK, and a 16-foot Trump Robot sitting on a golden toilet, as well as lots of small Baby Trump balloons. The festival will also include stand-up comedy, a dance party, and an open mic for participants to bring attention to issues that are important to them.”

Trade Figures Show China Tariffs Are Working and Helping Our Allies

A small rise in the trade deficit with China in May masks a much larger shift in U.S. trade away from the world’s second largest national economy.

The U.S. imported $39.3 billion of goods from China in May, up from $34.8 billion in April, according to Commerce Department data released Wednesday. Exports to China rose also, to $9 billion from $7.9, so the trade gap rose by $3.3 billion to $30.2 billion.

The increase in trade came as somewhat of a surprise because U.S. tariffs on $200 billion of Chinese goods jumped from 10 percent to 25 percent on May 10. Concerns that tariffs could be applied to a further $300 billion of imports from China may have prompted a small front-running import surge in those goods.

The most revealing figure in the May data, however, is the annual decline in trade and the trade gap between the U.S. and China. Imports from China in May fell $10.3 billion from a year ago.  In the first five months of the year, imports have fallen $24.4 billion to $180.9 billion, almost a 12 percent decline.
This suggests that the trade dispute is hurting China’s sales to the U.S., although it is not clear from the import figures whether that is because the price of goods is falling or because the volume of goods sold is falling. The trade figures do not include the cost of tariffs paid by importers.

The trade gap with China for the first five months of 2019 fell by $15 billion, a 10 percent decline. Exports to China fell by nearly 20 percent, from $53.2 billion to $43 billion. So U.S. producers of U.S. goods exported to China, particularly in agricultural goods, are also being hit by the trade dispute.

But perhaps not by as much as expected. Overall U.S. exports to the rest of the world are down just $500 million year to date. Agricultural commodity exports are down $3 billion year to date, although they were up in by around $200 million from the month before.

The economic damage from the trade war is very specific to China. The U.S. appetite for imported goods has not diminished: total imports are up $8.1 billion year-to-date to $1.04 trillion. But the sources of imports have shifted away from China.

One big beneficiary has been Taiwan. So far this year, imports from Taiwan are up 22 percent to $21.8 billion. And Taiwan’s imports of U.S goods rose by more than 14 percent to $12.8 billion.

Imports from a group of nations grouped as “other countries” in Commerce Department data–including India, Thailand, and Vietnam–rose by $12 billion to $84,6 billion in the first five months of the year compared with 2018. That is evidence to back-up the widespread reports that companies are shifting the sources of their imports out of China and into developing Asian countries.

U.S. policymakers regard that shift out of China and into third countries as a victory for the Trump administration’s policies, both because it makes U.S. consumers and retailers less dependent on goods from China and because it increases the pressure on China to reform what the U.S. says are unfair and illegal trade practices. The shift may also strengthen the U.S. diplomatically by aligning other nation’s economic interests with its trade dispute against China.

Mother Of 11-Year-Old ‘Drag Kid’ Blasts ‘Convicted Pedophile’ For Sexualizing Her Child, Scolds ‘Conservative Media’

In an Instagram post published last week, Wendy Napoles, the mother of 11-year-old Desmond Napoles — a so-called “drag kid” known as “Desmond is Amazing” — blasted a “convicted pedophile” blogger for sexualizing her young son, calling his statements “highly inappropriate.” Napoles also took a shot at “conservative media” for allegedly suggesting she is “purposely attracting pedophiles.”

“This is extremely disturbing. Convicted pedophile Tom O’Carroll has written a blog post stating that Desmond is hot & feels sexy performing,” wrote Napoles. “He also sexualizes fellow drag kid Queen Lactatia.”

“We do not approve of his statements & have written to [wordpress.com] several times but they have yet to remove it. It is highly inappropriate to speak of minors in this manner,” the woman continued.

Turning her attention to “conservative media,” Napoles blasted, “First, the Conservative press is currently accusing us of purposely attracting pedophiles & accusing the LGBTQ community of supporting this,” she claimed. “What Tom O’Carroll has said is out of our control & we do not know him or associate with him or any other pedophiles or sex offenders. I think if a pedophile wants to act on their urges, NO child is safe.”

Napoles went on to claim that her preteen son is never sexualized while performing in drag.

“Desmond does not move in a sexual manner or strip, at all,” she claimed. “He has done costume reveals that reveal a fully covered costume underneath. He is never ‘scantily clad’ or nearly naked & always is age appropriate. He does celebrity impersonations & does not choose to do sexy celebrities.”

However, Desmond’s parents made waves last year when the “drag kid” performed a dance number in full drag at a New York City gay bar. As he removed his jacket and bounced around on stage, howling men handed him dollar bills. The jaw-dropping event, captured on video, sparked backlash from the public, calling attention to Napoles seemingly engaging in the sexualization of her own child through such “drag” performances. (The young boy’s website has a link for “bookings,” for example.)

“Desmond does not feel ‘sexy’ in drag,” the boy’s mother wrote. “What he has said is that at times in drag he ‘feels like a boy & a girl at the same time’. This isn’t to mean that Desmond is confused about his gender. He identifies as a boy & uses the pronouns he, him, his, even in drag. To Desmond, drag is dressing up into a character, performing, & expressing oneself through art.”

Napoles claimed her son is “an actor & model,” too.

“Desmond loves what he does & is never forced to do anything,” she wrote. “He chooses everything from his costumes, makeup, songs, etc.”

The mother then started discussing her 11-year-old son’s sexuality, claiming Desmond “came out as gay when he was 11.”

“Although, honestly we knew before then,” she wrote. “He got same sex crushes that he would tell me about. Desmond knows the difference between a heterosexual & homosexual. Just because he identifies as gay does not mean he is sexually active or wants to be. He knows what sex is…he’s in middle school and has had sex education class. Apparently, he said all the kids giggled through the whole course.”

“Anyone discussing anything remotely sexual on Desmond’s social media is immediately blocked & reported. We are just appalled at this whole situation,” Napoles concluded.

Desmond has been pushed as an LGBT advocate, telling The Daily Beast in an interview last year that he’s happy to help “the LGBTQ community fight for our rights,” noting that his parents “love” that he does drag.

“It is really amazing being in the spotlight because I get so much support and I’m an inspiration to so many people, which is one of my number one goals,” Desmond said. “I like all the fame, and helping the LGBTQ community fight for our rights.”

The media and Hollywood players have been quick to promote Desmond’s drag. In December, The Daily Wire recapped just some of the fawning media coverage the young child has garnered:

Desmond was promoted by NBC’s TODAY Show in June. “Meet the 10-year-old ‘drag kid’ taking over social media with inspiring message,” reads the caption video on Desmond. Left-wing site The Daily Beast gushed over Desmond’s drag and his progressive parents in a disturbing piece from February titled, “RuPaul Loves ‘Drag Kid’ Desmond. You Will Too. Fiercely.” The young child has been relentlessly praised and promoted by drag queen RuPaul, the host of VH1’s RuPaul’s Drag Race. When Desmond was just seven years old, he was featured in a music video for Season Six winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race Jinkx Monsoon. In the video, Desmond dances on top of a bar in a red dress, long gloves, and jewelry. As an 8-year-old, the child was introduced on a NYC stage in full-drag by actor Tituss Burgess.

This is extremely disturbing. Convicted pedophile Tom O’Carroll has written a blog post stating that Desmond is hot & feels sexy performing. He also sexualizes fellow drag kid Queen Lactatia. We do not approve of his statements & have written to @wordpressdotcom several times but they have yet to remove it. It is highly inappropriate to speak of minors in this manner . . I want to address some of his points. First, the Conservative press is currently accusing us of purposely attracting pedophiles & accusing the LGBTQ community of supporting this. I think if a pedophile wants to act on their urges, NO child is safe . . Desmond does not move in a sexual manner or strip, at all. Nolte: Sen. Ted Cruz Launches #WalkAwayFromNike Boycott Campaign

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) launched a #WalkAwayFromNike boycott campaign this week after the left-wing company pulled its “Betsy Ross Flag” shoes.

“I love America. I stand for the anthem, respect the flag & honor the men & women who fought to defend our Nation. I respect Free Speech & I’m exerting mine,” Cruz tweeted Tuesday afternoon.

“[U]ntil @Nike ends its contempt for those values I WILL NO LONGER PURCHASE NIKE PRODUCTS. #WalkAwayFromNike RT if you agree,” he added.

In another tweet, Cruz wrote: “It’s a good thing @Nike only wants to sell sneakers to people who hate the American flag…. @NFL #HappyFourth.”

The Wall Street Journal reports although the shoes in question, the Air Max 1 USA, are already manufactured and ready to ship, Nike abruptly decided to dump the product after one of Nike’s commercial spokes-babies, failed quarterbackg Colin Kaepernick, whined that the 13 star flag created by Betsy Ross at the request of George Washington, is connected to the slave era.

The backlash was immediate, even the fully cucked-out Joe Scarborough agrees that Nike’s decision was outrageous.

Thus far, Cruz’s call for a boycott has over 21,000 comments, 20,000 retweets, and 44,000 likes.

While I’m always opposed to organized boycotts, there does come a point where my disgust with a company makes it impossible for me to purchase its products. CNN is at the top of that very short list. When I’m going through the Netflix queue, even if the program looks interesting, once I see that CNN logo, it’s an automatic no sale.

Another business I’ll have nothing to with anymore is Helga’s House of pain, but for reasons that are none of your business.

Gillette seems determined to make that list, as well.

Nike, however, has finally crossed the line.

Compared to a lot of political people, I have a much higher tolerance for this kind of stuff than most. I still go to the movies. I still stop at a Starbucks occasionally. I still buy Apple products. I purchased some Nike running shoes recently, even after the company had hired that jerk-off Kaepernick as its spokesman.

Hey, it’s a free country. If Nike wants to hire Kaepernick, wants to appeal to his crowd, who cares? Nike should make shoes for everyone — even the drooling morons who believe a rick, spoiled, cop-hating, flag-trashing, talentless football player is the next Martin Luther King.

But for Nike to attack the American flag in this way, and to do it over the 4th of July… For Nike to believe so strongly that the American flag —  the symbol of freedom and liberty all around the world — represents oppression… Well, that crosses a line.

This isn’t me calling for anyone else to #WalkAwayFromNike, this isn’t me calling for a boycott, or even joining a boycott. But at the same time, I have to be honest: my days of buying Nike products are over –not because I’m boycotting the company, but because I’m so goddamned disgusted with Nike I just can’t do it anymore.

Official Raised Alarm About Deleted Clinton Emails

A former top official in the U.S. State Department testified that he raised concerns about deleted emails from Hillary Clinton’s personal email system.

Clinton set up and used a private email server for the majority of her time as secretary of state during the Obama administration. John Hackett served as deputy director and then director of the department’s Information Programs and Services from 2013-16, which handles document management for Freedom of Information Act requests among other things.

Hackett said he was concerned over news that the Clinton team had segregated and then deleted about 30,000 emails out of a larger batch set to be turned back over to the department, and what criteria the team had applied when deciding which emails to delete.

Hacket was answering the questions under deposition as part of a FOIA lawsuit still underway by conservative watchdog Judicial Watch.

Hackett:  I recall it wasn’t much of a conversation. I—I was—I mean, I have to say, it was emphatic to the Under Secretary of Management—and I didn’t speak in tones like that very often to him—you know, that we needed these—you know, the guidelines.

… …

Judicial Watch: Why did you feel so strongly that this was necessary, that they provide this information?

Hackett: Well, we heard that there were 50,000 or 60,000 emails, and that they had—"they" being the Secretary’s team—had culled out 30,000 of these. And which is—so we wanted to know what criteria they used. The standard from the National Archives is very strict. If there was—if there were mixed records, that would be considered a federal record. If it was mixed personal and mentioned a discussion, that would be—under the narrow National Archives rules, it would be considered a federal record.

Judicial Watch: And do you know if the emails that were returned by Secretary Clinton and her attorneys, if they followed that guideline to include an email that would include mixed information, personal and official?

Hackett: I don’t know.

The 30,000 deleted emails were a source of controversy throughout the 2016 campaign.

In another part of the deposition, Hackett said he also voiced concerns about how some of Clinton’s emails were handled in response to FOIA requests, adding he thought some bureaucrats used the wrong legal exemption to withhold or redact some information.

"I believe that some bureaus were convinced, or—and analysts were convinced, once it was explained to them, to redact something but use a B5 exemption [which applies to deliberative process and allows government officials to discuss policy without the discussions being made public, or attorney client privilege] versus a B1 [national security] exemption."

If any of the emails with a B5 "national security" exemption ended up in her personal email account, Clinton would have faced additional scrutiny for possibly mishandling classified information.

Hacket also said he became worried about how the state department was responding to FOIA requests after seeing a now-infamous photo of then-Secretary Clinton with a Blackberry phone device.

"In fact, I advised [a coworker] that we should stop giving No Record Located responses until we come to—kind of come, you know—find out what that BlackBerry meant, come to ground about what was known about the former Secretary’s e-mailing habits," he said.

Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton said that the testimony conflicts with claims that Clinton and other Democrat officials were unaware of any potential violations of federal record-keeping policies. He called Hacket’s testimony "disturbing," adding that federal prosecutors should consider further investigating Clinton’s actions.

"This disturbing testimony points to an Obama administration conspiracy to hide and destroy Hillary Clinton emails," Fitton said in a press release. "Even worse, the testimony suggests Clinton’s Benghazi emails were under-classified in order to protect Hillary Clinton (and mislead Congress). Attorney General Barr needs to prioritize reopening the Clinton email investigation."

The state department did not respond to requests for comment.

Disclosure: Judicial Watch is the counsel for the reporter of this article in a separate, unrelated open records lawsuit.

Hidden Costs of Energy Mandates

There is nothing environmentally conscientious about prematurely shutting down sound infrastructure that provides clean, low-cost, reliable electricity.

Unfortunately, that’s exactly what state renewable energy mandates, federal energy subsidies, and policies like the Green New Deal would do to accommodate politically preferred renewable energy technologies.

A new report from the Institute for Energy
Research
gives
Americans an idea of the cost of mandating a transition from our present electricity
suppliers, which are predominantly natural gas, coal, and nuclear power.

There is no perfect energy resource or technology—every option has trade-off—but, for 30 years, analysts have used a metric called levelized cost of electricity to form educated guesses about the relative merits of building and operating power generation from coal, nuclear, natural gas, hydro, wind, and solar power for 30 years.

For example, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, a new, unsubsidized wind farm would cost on average $56 per megawatt-hour, but a new combined-cycle natural gas plant would cost $46 per megawatt-hour created.

A megawatt-hour is equal to roughly the amount of energy used by 330 homes for an hour.

But even the levelized cost of electricity does not offer a
perfect apples-to-apples comparison.

The Institute for Energy Research’s study tries to get
closer to the truth by taking into account hidden costs associated with
different energy resources. The study found:

  1. Existing power plants have a lower levelized cost of electricity than new ones of the same kind—which means it is generally cheaper to run a plant that’s already built than to build a new one.
  2. This seems obvious, but it shows why politicians should think twice about the ripple effect of mandates and regulations that force otherwise functional power plants to shut down early.
  3. Wind and solar impose hidden costs on other power plants. Existing reliable power plants have to remain available in case the wind stops blowing or the sun stops shining. These plants—usually coal, natural gas, or nuclear—have to throttle back, which is less efficient, to accommodate wind and solar but be ready to deliver when they can’t. This imposes a hidden cost, according to the Institute for Energy Research, of at least $21 extra per megawatt-hour for solar and $24 for wind.

The
study sheds some important light on policies state renewable energy mandates,
which force certain politically preferred energy onto the grid rather than what
may make more economic sense for customers.

Take California for example. Elsewhere in the country, 89 nuclear reactors have extended their operating licenses beyond 40 years because they can generate decades more of inexpensive energy long after recovering the costs of construction.

But thanks to California’s decision to require that 50% of its power come from renewables by 2030, its final nuclear plant, Diablo Canyon, must close as part of the state’s mission to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 80%.

This single plant produces 9% of all power generated in California, with no carbon dioxide or air pollutants, but it will be closed in 2024 to make room for more politically mandated renewable energy.

Coal, wind, natural gas, solar, nuclear, and other energy technologies bring different things to the table to meet customer needs for electricity. But when politics overrides customer preferences, the economics get fuzzy and customers may be signing up for more (literally, in terms of price) than they bargained for.
