Number Of Unaccompanied Kids At Border Hits Highest Number In History…

Via AP:

WASHINGTON (AP) — The U.S. government picked up nearly 19,000 children traveling alone across the Mexican border in March, authorities said Thursday, the largest monthly number ever recorded and a major test for President Joe Biden as he reverses many of his predecessor’s hardline immigration tactics.

A complex mix of factors in the United States and Central America drove the increase. It has coincided with the Biden administration’s decision to exempt unaccompanied children from pandemic-related powers to immediately expel most people from the country without giving them an opportunity to seek asylum. Children are instead released to “sponsors” in the U.S., usually parents or close relatives, while being allowed to pursue their cases in heavily backlogged immigration courts.

NBC’s ‘Confusion’ Over Red States Handling COVID Better Than Blue States

“Confounding,” “conundrum,” “confusion,” these are the words that NBC’s Today show used on Thursday to describe the good news that COVID cases were declining in certain states. The reason for them being so baffled? Cases of the virus were falling in southern states with Republican governors and spiking in northern states with Democratic governors, leading the network liberal hacks to try to explain away a trend that didn’t fit their partisan narrative.
“Why are COVID cases dropping in states that have eased restrictions, yet climbing in ones with tight restrictions still in place?,” perplexed co-host Hoda Kotb asked while teasing the upcoming report. She promised viewers: “We’ll dig into that trend that have some health experts scratching their heads.”

In another tease minutes later, Kotb promoted “an inside look at the nation’s confounding trends when it comes to the coronavirus.” Fellow co-host Savannah Guthrie explained: “Yeah, we’re going to go behind the numbers and find out why there’s a surge in certain states and a decline in others, and why people in those states could be getting a false sense of security.”
Introducing the segment in the 7:30 a.m. ET half hour, co-host Craig Melvin again declared that “the trends in COVID cases across the country that have health officials really scratching their heads.” Guthrie chimed in: “Yeah, some states with stricter rules are now seeing surges and then many that were reopened right away and abandoned mask mandates are experiencing sizable drops.”
Reporting from Florida, correspondent Sam Brock remarked: “…you look at the backdrop over my shoulder, you can understand what is driving people down here to vacation and spurring fears that we would see an explosion of cases.” However, he then admitted that media doomsday predictions had been proven false: “So far it’s only been a modest uptick.” Brock added: “And from Georgia and Mississippi to Texas and Arkansas, those states with lax rules on COVID protocols have all seen double digit drops in cases.”
As the taped portion of the segment played, Brock proclaimed:
Call it a COVID conundrum. In states with the strictest measures in the country, like Michigan, Pennsylvania, and much of New England, cases are on the rise. While in the south, states like Arkansas and Texas, that have reopened businesses and ripped away mask mandates, are seeing their numbers drop.
Much of the report was spent advancing theories that “might explain the apparent contradiction,” everything from suggesting southern states weren’t testing enough to discover supposed hidden COVID surges to arguing young people vacationing in those states were contracting the virus and bringing it back to their home states. Zero evidence was presented to back up any of this speculation.
The notion that Republican governors might be doing a better job responding to the pandemic and distributing vaccines than Democratic governors was not even entertained as a possible explanation for the discrepancy in case numbers.
Instead, Brock worried that the policies of state GOP leaders were being reaffirmed: “Do medical experts worry it’s emboldening those leaders who said this is a good idea to loosen restrictions?” Dr. Neil Gandhi, Regional Medical Director at Houston Methodist Hospital, warned: “We worry about if there’s a perfect storm brewing.”
If cases were declining in blue states and increasing in red states, NBC would likely be crowing, “We told you so!” Instead, with the opposite happening, the network just can’t accept that all their fearmongering about loosening lockdown restrictions might have been wrong.
NBC’s COVID puzzlement was brought to viewers by Lincoln and Dove. You can fight back by letting these advertisers know what you think of them sponsoring such content.
Here is a full transcript of the April 8 segment:
7:40 AM ET
CRAIG MELVIN: We are back, In-Depth Today at 7:40. And this morning, the trends in COVID cases across the country that have health officials really scratching their heads.
SAVANNAH GUTHRIE: Yeah, some states with stricter rules are now seeing surges and then many that were reopened right away and abandoned mask mandates are experiencing sizable drops.
HODA KOTB: So what is going on? NBC’s Sam Brock is in Florida, he’s digging deeper a into those numbers. Sam, good morning.
SAM BROCK: Guys, good morning, you look at the backdrop over my shoulder, you can understand what is driving people down here to vacation and spurring fears that we would see an explosion of cases. So far it’s only been a modest uptick. And from Georgia and Mississippi to Texas and Arkansas, those states with lax rules on COVID protocols have all seen double digit drops in cases. We wanted to find out what’s going on behind the case count.
[ON-SCREEN HEADLINE: “State” of Confusion; Why Have Some Areas Become Hot Spots?]
GOV. ASA HUTCHINSON [R-AR]: I’m announced today that the statewide mask mandate will be lifted.
GOV. GREG ABBOTT [R-TX]: People and businesses don’t need the state telling them how to operate.
BROCK: So what might explain the apparent contradiction? One theory, differences in testing rates. Alabama has experiences one of the biggest dips in reported infections, more than 50% in two weeks, but it’s also dead last in the U.S. for COVID testing. Only 56 tests per hundred thousand people. That’s a fraction of what you’ll find in places like Vermont, Massachusetts, and New York, where numbers are surging.
How much does lack of adequate testing have to do with the numbers that we’re seeing right now?
DR. AILEEN MARTY [INFECTIOUS DISEASE EXPERT AT FLORIDA INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY]: When you don’t test, you’re blind. And when you are not testing, you have a false sense of what the real problem is in your community.
BROCK: Another theory, COVID fatigue. In Michigan, where people are just coming out of lockdown for the first time in months, cases are up more than a 100% as demographics shift.
DR. VINEET CHOPRA [CHIEF OF HOSPITAL MEDICINE AT MICHIGAN]: What’s different in this wave is these are younger individuals between the ages of 30 and 60, the vast majority of which are not currently vaccinated.
BROCK: Texas, on the other hand, began reopening its doors months ago and just jammed 40,000 people into the Rangers ballpark, many without masks.
DR. NEIL GANDHI [REGIONAL MEDICAL DIRECTOR AT HOUSTON METHODIST HOSPITAL]: A lot of individuals in the southern part of the U.S., and especially here in Texas, have already been exposed to the coronavirus. So many individuals already have coronavirus antibodies.
BROCK: That leads us to the risky behavior we’ve seen in places like Miami Beach, Florida. Where numbers have only increased sightly. Theory number three, that young people are acting as carriers, as doctors say they’re returning to other states, taking the virus with them.
DR. MARTY: Those are the least likely to show up for testing. And when those younger individuals infect older individuals or more vulnerable individuals, that takes time.
BROCK: Bottom line, health experts say the falling figures in the south might be giving a false sense of security.
Do medical experts worry it’s emboldening those leaders who said this is a good idea to loosen restrictions?
DR. GANDHI: We worry about if there’s a perfect storm brewing. If we remember, this virus always takes 10 to 14 to 21 days to develop. We might just be seeing the early effects of that right now.
GUTHRIE: Yeah, a lot of those southern states are also quite a bit warmer, too, so people are outside, might be a little bit safer. What about the variants? That’s got to play a role here too, Sam.
BROCK: A significant role. Michigan, for example, Savannah, has a very high prevalence of the U.K. strain. That’s also true of states like Minnesota. Both of them have seen cases skyrocket. But Savannah, there are outliers as well. In Florida, where I am, there are more documented cases of the U.K. strain here than any other state in the country by far. And yet so far, a 17% increase in the last two weeks, very small compared to some of these other states. Savannah?
GUTHRIE: Alright, Sam, thank you.

Crisis: Record Numer Of Migrants Taken Into Custody At Southern Border In March, Highest Number Of Child Migrants Ever Recorded

United States Customs and Border Protect (CBP) reported a record number of illegal immigrants taken into custody at the United States-Mexico border in March — the most in nearly two decades, according to an official release.

That number includes 19,000 child migrants, the “largest monthly number ever recorded …,” according to the Chicago Tribune.

CBP released the numbers on Thursday, showing 172,331 people taken into custody for trying to jump the United States’ southern border. A chart from The Washington Post, posted to social media, shows just how shocking and unprecedented the number is compared to previous years. CBP, the outlet notes, had to “redo” the chart and “stretch the Y-axis” in order to effectively demonstrate the number of migrants.

The Washington Post also noted that the new numbers seem to contradict the Biden administration’s stated excuse that the border situation is no different now than in previous years.

“U.S. agents took more than 171,000 migrants into custody last month, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection figures that contradict Biden’s claims that his administration is facing an influx no different from previous years,” the Post said Thursday. “The rapid increase in border arrests and detentions — which has more than doubled since January — underscores the magnitude of the challenge facing an administration that has promised more humane and more welcoming immigration policies.”

The “child migrant crisis” that has plagued the Biden administration continued unabated in March, with nearly 19,000 new children intercepted and taken into U.S. border patrol custody, the single largest number ever recorded.

“Authorities encountered 18,890 unaccompanied children in March, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, well above previous highs of 11,475 in May 2019 and 10,620 in June 2014 reported by the Border Patrol, which began publishing numbers in 2009. Before then, Mexican adults made up most of those crossing the border,” the Tribune noted.

“March’s count was roughly double the 9,457 unaccompanied kids encountered by CBP in February and more than five times the tally of 3,221 in March 2020,” the outlet noted. “The huge increase in children traveling alone — some as young as 3 — and families has severely strained border holding facilities, which aren’t allowed to hold people for more than three days but often do. It’s left the government scrambling to find space and hire staff to care for children longer-term until they can be placed with sponsors.”

The number of child migrants taken into custody in March nearly matches predictions made just months ago by officials within the Biden administration. In February, the Domestic Policy Council warned the Biden administration that it would need to scale up its capacity to detain children on the border because unaccompanied minor border crossings were expected to jump by 45%.

An estimated 15,500 children are currently in U.S. custody, many being held for longer than the 72-hour limit put in place by an Obama administration-era court order.

On Thursday, The Daily Wire reported that Texas officials are now concerned about conditions in at least one facility converted to a temporary shelter for migrant children after receiving complaints of neglect and abuse — and even allegations of sexual assault — at the Freeman Coliseum in San Antonio, which is housing hundreds of the unaccompanied minors.

“Earlier today, The Texas Health and Human Services Commission and the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services separately received tips that allege child abuse and neglect at the federal government’s Child and Migrant facility at the Freeman Coliseum in San Antonio behind me,” Texas Governor Greg Abbot said in a press conference Thursday morning. “These problems are a by-product of President Biden’s open border policies and the lack of planning for the fallout from those disastrous policies.”

Vice President Kamala Harris, who was placed in charge of handling the situation at the southern border, has yet to comment on the numbers and is not scheduled to pay a visit to the border this week. Instead, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas will tour select areas on the border on Thursday, in an event closed to the press.

YouTube censors DeSantis COVID-19 roundtable challenging lockdown consensus

YouTube has removed a video of a public health roundtable hosted by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) with a panel of scientists and researchers who challenged the effectiveness of COVID-19 lockdowns and masks, claiming the discussion violated its Community Guidelines.

The roundtable, which took place at the state Capitol on March 18 and was streamed and posted to YouTube by WTSP-TV, featured former Trump White House coronavirus adviser Dr. Scott Atlas, epidemiologist Professor Sunetra Gupta, and researchers Dr. Jay Bhattacharya and Dr. Martin Kulldorff.

The scientists and researchers discussed how public policy measures adopted during the pandemic to mitigate spread of the virus, including quarantining healthy people, shutting businesses down, and mandating mask-wearing, were inspired in part by fear rather than by scientific evidence.

Dr. Bhattacharya called lockdowns "the single biggest public health mistake in history" and argued they failed to protect vulnerable populations like senior citizens from contracting COVID-19. The panel discussed evidence that contradicted some studies that suggest lockdowns may have saved millions of lives globally.

The experts also disputed the effectiveness of mask-wearing, offering various opinions that differed from Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommendations for preventing spread of COVID-19.

Jeffrey A. Tucker, writing for the American Institute for Economic Research, was the first to notice that YouTube had removed the video.

"With no warning, no announcement, and no explanation, YouTube on April 7, 2021, suddenly deleted the entire video from its platform," Tucker wrote Wednesday. "Once hosted by WTSP Tampa Bay, an NBC affiliate, it originally appeared as embedded in a story on WTSP.com."

"AIER embedded that same video on our story about the event, along with the first and still the only full transcript of the event. In the late afternoon, the video appeared completely blanked out," he reported.

Tucker harshly criticized YouTube’s actions.

"When the CDC and WHO began to contradict themselves on many issues, among which included immunities and their source, YouTube took a different direction, curating the ‘science’ themselves and deleting any video that its employees didn’t like," he wrote.

"This policy has now run afoul of the basic needs of public health messaging, science, and sound policy decision making, even to the point of removing a serious forum of a popular government along with his scientific advisors from Harvard, Stanford, and Oxford universities."

YouTube’s Community Guidelines state the platform "doesn’t allow content about COVID-19 that poses a serious risk of egregious harm."

The website bans "content that spreads medical misinformation that contradicts local health authorities’ or the World Health Organization’s (WHO) medical information about COVID-19." Such content may be related to treatment, prevention, diagnosis, transmission, social distancing and quarantine guidelines, or the existence of COVID-19.

TheBlaze contacted Google asking for specific reasons why WTSP-TV’s video was removed, but did not receive a response before publication. TheBlaze also asked if other videos of the March 18 roundtable, such as this one posted by NBC 6 South Florida, will also be removed.

TheBlaze also reached out to WTSP-TV and Governor Ron DeSantis’ office with requests for comment.

US Apprehends Most Migrants In Two Decades As Reports Of Molested Kids Emerge

US Apprehends Most Migrants In Two Decades As Reports Of Molested Kids Emerge

While Nancy Pelosi insists that the situation at the US-Mexico border has improved under President Biden, and Vice President Kamala Harris – who Biden put in charge the migrant surge – refuses to even visit, the numbers on the ground paint a sobering picture.

According to new figures from the Customs and Border Protection agency, the US just had the most apprehensions in nearly two-decades, as 172,331 migrants were arrested in March after illegally entering the country.

Pew Research, ZeroHedge

The March numbers are a 70.6% increase over February‘s 101,028 apprehensions.

Meanwhile, Texas has launched an investigation following accusations of child sexual abuse at a federal outflow migrant facility in San Antonio, after two Texas agencies received tips alleging the assaults.

More via The Epoch Times:

The separate complaints came to the Texas Health and Human Services Commission and the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services about the Freeman Coliseum, where some unaccompanied minors—children who crossed the southern border illegally without an adult—are currently being held, Abbott told reporters at a conference held in front of the site.

“Earlier today, the Texas Health and Human Services commission and Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, separately received tips that alleged child abuse and neglect at the San Antonio migrant facility,” Abbott said. “These products are a bi-product of President Biden’s policies.”

The allegations comprise four main complaints that allege child sexual assault, children not eating throughout the day, not enough staff on hand to supervise the children, and children with COVID-19 are not being physically separated from those who don’t have the virus. It is unclear how many children were allegedly abused or adversely affected by neglect.

Abbott called the situation at the facility a “health and safety nightmare,” and called on the administration to move the children away to safer facilities and shut down the facility. “Biden’s open border policy caused this crisis,” Abbott said on Twitter.

Idiot Biden Confuses Gun Control Talking Points, Repeatedly Refers to the “ATF” as the “AFT” (VIDEO)

Joe Biden on Thursday delivered remarks on ‘gun violence’ in America and announced his ‘initial’ executive actions on gun control.

Biden used this as an opportunity to trash America and attack the Second Amendment.

In addition to all of Biden’s lies about firearms and the Second Amendment, perhaps the scariest thing he said today was, “No amendment to the Constitution is absolute.”

Joe Biden nominated David Chipman to serve as Director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF).

Idiot Biden referred to the ATF as the AFT two times in a row.
