Judicial Watch Sues CIA and DOJ for Communications of Eric Ciaramella

(Washington, DC) – Judicial Watch announced today that it filed Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuits against both the DOJ and CIA for communications of CIA employee Eric Ciaramella, who reportedly worked on Ukraine issues while on detail to both the Obama and Trump White Houses.

The lawsuit against the DOJ was filed after it failed to respond to November 2019 FOIA requests seeking communications between Ciaramella and former FBI agent Peter Strzok, former FBI Attorney Lisa Page, former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, and/or the Special Counsel’s Office (Judicial Watch v. U.S. Department of Justice (No. 1:19-cv-03809)).

Commerce Dept.: Companies Brought $1 Trillion Back to U.S. Under Trump Tax Cuts

American companies have brought $1 trillion back to the United States since the passage of President Donald Trump’s tax cuts in 2017, according to new U.S. Department of Commerce data.

Bloomberg News reported the repatriation figure since the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 took effect last year, though noting that it was short of the $4 trillion that Trump had initially promised:

Investment banks and think tanks have estimated that American corporations held $1.5 trillion to $2.5 trillion in offshore cash at the time the law was enacted. Before the overhaul, companies were incentivized to keep profits overseas because they owed a 35% tax when bringing it back and could defer payment by keeping funds offshore. The law set a one-time 15.5% tax rate on cash and 8% on non-cash or illiquid assets.

As the Tax Foundation has noted, the tax on past overseas profits is payable over eight years, whether or not the funds are repatriated. Going forward, companies will only be taxed on earnings in the U.S.

The repatriation rate is somewhat slower than initially expected, the Wall Street Journal reported last year, because the U.S. tax rate is only one factor in companies’ decision to keep profits abroad:

Some companies, such as Chevron Corp. and Archer Daniels MidlandCo. , have long plowed foreign profits into foreign factories, equipment and other assets that aren’t likely to move. Other companies said they need funds overseas for acquisitions, debt retirement and expansion in growing markets. Moreover, foreign regulators require banks and other financial companies to maintain substantial capital reserves abroad. Those corporations don’t plan to bring much cash home.

Even without the federal government taxing new foreign income as it comes home, costs remain to moving cash across borders. Some U.S. states tax repatriated profits, and some countries impose taxes on dividends paid to parent companies.

President Barack Obama had long decried the practice of companies shifting profits abroad, though he and his party proposed to add taxes and penalties to “unpatriotic” companies, rather than changing taxes and regulations to create new incentives to invest at home.

The Department of Commerce Bureau of Economic Analysis report also noted that the current account deficit had narrowed by 0.9% in the third quarter of 2019.

1,000 Christians Killed This Year in Nigeria

WASHINGTON—For many months, Save the Persecuted Christians (STPC), which advocates on behalf of hundreds of millions of persecuted Christians worldwide, has urged a U.S. special envoy to Nigeria and the Lake Chad region because of extreme and heightened violence against Christians there.

In 2019 alone, reported The Christian Post, over 1,000 Christians in Nigeria were killed by Boko Haram and Fulani extremists, while another 300 Christians were killed in Cameroon. A separate Nigeria-based civil society organization reported that at least 2,400 Christians were killed in Nigeria in 2018.

UK Spends $2 Million on Electric Cop Cars, Discovers They’re Useless for Pursuit

UK Spends $2 Million on Electric Cop Cars, Discovers They’re Useless for Pursuit

A picture of an electric police cruiser of the Metropolitan Police force.@metpoliceuk / Twitter screen shotA picture of an electric police cruiser of the Metropolitan Police force.

The United Kingdom’s experiment with electric police vehicles has seemingly ended in failure after the cars have been revealed to be practically useless for crucial law enforcement activities.

As the U.K. Daily Mail reported, hundreds of the vehicles have been purchased across the country by different police forces.

The total cost of the green vehicles is almost £1.5 million — nearly $2 million in American currency.

While electric cars have their merits, the technology simply isn’t there for the vehicles to serve as regular parts of police fleets. Despite this, U.K. police forces have fielded over 400 of the green machines.

The cars come from different manufacturers, including BMW and Nissan.

It didn’t take long for officers to discover the downside of these environmentally friendly cruisers.

Systems like automatic braking may help civilian consumers avoid crashes and fender benders, but the advanced sensor network only hinders police chases. The safety system is “not conducive to pursuit or response driving,” the Staffordshire Police reported, according to the Daily Mail.

Do you think police forces should begin replacing their fleets with electric vehicles?

Other modern safety features, like headlights that are always on while the car is running, render the cruisers practically useless for surveillance and other undercover work.

The vehicles’ range is a central issue as well.

The battery reserves of the cars, which already take an inconveniently long time to charge, can’t even make it through a single shift without the need to be plugged back in.

It seems that these vehicles are still seeing use despite their downsides.

The costly cars are now being used to carry chiefs to and from stations and for other non-emergency work.

Our English-speaking friends across the Atlantic only needed to look to California to find the limitations of “green” police vehicles.

A California police department discovered the downsides of electric pursuit vehicles firsthand when a Tesla Model S ran out of juice halfway through a chase.

Although electric vehicles are not currently advanced enough to replace gasoline- and diesel-fueled law enforcement cars, there’s little doubt that with time this will no longer be the case.

California Fizzle: Golden State Growth Rate at .35 Percent, Lowest Rate Since 1900 – State Loses 198,000 to Out-Migration

Californians for Population Stabilization (CAPS) reported:

California recorded its lowest growth rate since 1900 this past year.
Nearly 200,000 left the Golden State last year.

Too much taxes and poop on the street will do that.

According to California’s Department of Finance (DOF), the state grew by “only” 141,300 over the last year, but that was only because of a net outflow of almost 200,000 Californians to other states. The official state estimate for July 1, 2019, puts California’s population at 39.96 million, a growth rate of 0.35 percent, the lowest recorded rate since 1900.

The DOF estimate indicates that the net domestic outmigration of 198,000 was offset by foreign immigration of 158,000 and natural increase (births minus deaths) of 181,000. Immigration drives population growth in the U.S., and even more so in California. According to the Pew Research Center, “Future immigrants and their descendants… are projected to account for 88 percent of the U.S. population increase,” between 2015 and 2065.

Californians for Population Stabilization Executive Director Ric Oberlink responded:

“It’s good news that California’s growth rate is slowing. Decades of unsustainable population growth have resulted in crumbling infrastructure, massive traffic jams, increased air pollution, and the destruction of large swathes of California’s precious ecosystems. The fact is, California is already overpopulated; it is why we’re seeing Californians leave the state in record numbers. Overpopulation leads to reduced quality of life.

“We think of Europe as the crowded Old World and think of America, especially the West, as the land of wide-open spaces, yet the population density of California already exceeds that of Europe by one-third… and is still increasing.

“Population growth drives up the cost of housing and increases the cost of living. These contribute to our crisis of homelessness.

Awful. Sen. Murkowski Turns Against McConnell After Bill Kristol’s Million Dollar Ad Buy Targets Her to Flip on Trump

RINO Senator Lisa Murkowski (AK) said in an interview with KTUU, which aired Tuesday evening, that she is “disturbed” by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s comments on coordinating with the White House for the impending impeachment trial.

Who is surprised by this?

“Everything I do during this, I’m coordinating with White House counsel,” McConnell recently told Fox News’ Sean Hannity. “There’ll be no difference between the president’s position and our position as to how to handle this.”

“Exactly how we go forward, I’m going to coordinate with the president’s lawyers,” McConnell said to Hannity. “The case is so darn weak coming over from the House. We all know how it’s going to end. There is no chance the president is going to be removed from office.”

McConnell is also pushing back on Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer’s demands.

And now we know why Murkowski turned on McConnell.
Never-Trumper Bill Kristol’s group Republicans for the Rule of Law targeted Murkowski and others to turn on President Trump.
The Never-Trump group has spend one million targeting RINO Senators.

How awful.

MAGA: NASDAQ Hits 9,000 For First Time in History…

REPORTER: “We want to mention, as you can see from the bottom of your screen, that the NASDAQ has hit 9,000 for the first time ever, comes after hitting 8,000 in August of 2019 and, of course, now the countdown can continue to NASDAQ 10K.”
SANTOLI: “Exactly if you remember, NASDAQ 5,000 was the landmark in the year 2000. So it’s not quite double that while the S&P has well over doubled its previous all-time high. So this shows you where recently the strength has been in the market but it’s been a long comeback Apple, 10% of the NASDAQ index, by the way.”

Virginia Dems Pushing Gun Control. 91% Of Virginia Counties Tell Them To Stick It.

Despite the efforts of Democrats in Virginia who have plans to interfere with the Second Amendment rights of the state’s citizens, on Monday night Fauquier County and Charles City County both voted to become “sanctuary counties,” bringing the total of “sanctuary counties” in Virginia to 87, representing 91% of the counties in Virginia.

Two Virginia counties have discussed the issue but not yet taken any action: Chesterfield County and Essex County, while two counties have said they will not become Second Amendment sanctuaries: Albemarle and Loudoun.

According to WTOP, “Neither a ‘Second Amendment Sanctuary’ designation nor a ‘Constitutional County’ holds legal weight, and Virginia Attorney General Mark Herring has signaled these resolutions will have no effect on what laws the General Assembly passes and enforces in 2020.”

University of Virginia Professor Rich Schragger told WSLS, “What they can do as a practical matter is quite limited. There is some room for local police departments and local officers to use their discretion with the laws, and that was the same thing with sanctuary cities in terms of immigration policy. Mostly, declaring yourself a Second Amendment sanctuary is more of a symbolic statement.” He added, “It’s a form of political resistance. It’s similar to when urban communities have made statements in the other direction for gun control. I’m not surprised; It’s a form of political action.”

As The Daily Wire reported earlier this month, WTKR reported that Virginia governor Ralph Northam was asked if he would retaliate against counties which had passed the resolutions. Northam answered, “There’s not going to be retaliation. That’s not what I’m about. I’m about making Virginia safer,” but then added, “If we have constitutional laws on the books and law enforcement officers are not enforcing those laws on the books, then there are going to be consequences, but I’ll cross that bridge if and when we get to it.”

Northam continued that the laws he passed were constitutional, although it is not his province to decide that matter.

At virtually the same time, Democratic Virginia Rep. Donald McEachin threatened to cut off state funds to the sanctuary counties, asserting, “They certainly risk funding, because if the sheriff’s department is not going to enforce the law, they’re going to lose money. The counties attorneys’ offices are not going to have the money to prosecute because their prosecutions are going to go down.”

McEachin then suggested even more Draconian measures: “And ultimately, I’m not the governor, but the governor may have to nationalize the National Guard to enforce the law. That’s his call, because I don’t know how serious these counties are and how severe the violations of law will be. But that’s obviously an option he has.”

McEachin’s statement prompted Maj. Gen. Timothy P. Williams, the Adjutant General of Virginia, to reply, “We have received multiple questions regarding proposed legislation for the 2020 General Assembly session and the authority of the Governor of Virginia to employ the Virginia National Guard in a law enforcement role. We understand and respect the passion people feel for the U.S. Constitution and 2nd Amendment rights. We will not speculate about the possible use of the Virginia National Guard.”
