New York Times stealth-edits a highly criticized claim of the 1619 Project about America’s founding

The New York Times’ 1619 Project has quietly gotten a significant edit that changes a foundational perspective of the project — and the thing it has been most criticized for, Quillette reported.

The 1619 Project, primarily created by reporter Nikole Hannah-Jones, was an ambitious set of historical essays that sought to frame the founding of America from a different perspective. Instead of viewing 1776 as the beginning of the nation’s history, the project operated on a perspective that put 1619, the year the first African slaves were brought to North America.

Here’s how this idea was presented in the project initially:

The 1619 Project is a major initiative from The New York Times observing the anniversary of the beginning of American slavery. It aims to reframe the country’s history, understanding 1619 as our true founding, and placing the consequences of slavery and the contributions of black Americans at the very center of the story we tell ourselves about who we are.

This aspect of the project was heavily criticized. Hannah-Jones has repeatedly been attacked for attempting to essentially rewrite history to fit her preferred narrative about America as a fundamentally racist nation. Hannah-Jones herself has repeatedly reinforced this intention, and branding around the project has emphasized it.

"I argue that 1619 is our true founding," Hannah-Jones wrote in an August 2019 tweet. "Also, look at the banner pic in my profile."

At the time of that tweet, Hannah-Jones’ banner picture showed "July 4, 1776" crossed out and "August 20, 1619" written below it. The thread in the below tweets references numerous times Hannah-Jones has referenced 1619 as the true founding of America, as well as her attempts to deny having done so.

As of Sept. 18, Quillette found that the Times statement introducing the 1619 Project had been edited in a small but significant way. Now it states:

The 1619 Project is an ongoing initiative from The New York Times Magazine that began in August 2019, the 400th anniversary of the beginning of American slavery. It aims to reframe the country’s history by placing the consequences of slavery and the contributions of black Americans at the very center of our national narrative.

President Donald Trump and numerous other conservatives have been critical of the 1619 Project, and aggressively opposed it being taught in schools. Trump signed an executive order last week to establish the 1776 Commission, which is an effort to ensure "patriotic education" is emphasized in public schools.

“Free Assange” – Ron Paul Rages ‘This Is A War On Truth’

"Free Assange" – Ron Paul Rages ‘This Is A War On Truth’

Tyler Durden

Mon, 09/21/2020 – 17:14

Authored by Ron Paul via The Ron Paul Institute for Peace & Prosperity,

It is dangerous to reveal the truth about the illegal and immoral things our government does with our money and in our name, and the war on journalists who dare reveal such truths is very much a bipartisan affair. Just ask Wikileaks founder Julian Assange, who was relentlessly pursued first by the Obama Administration and now by the Trump Administration for the “crime” of reporting on the crimes perpetrated by the United States government.

Assange is now literally fighting for his life, as he tries to avoid being extradited to the United States where he faces 175 years in prison for violating the “Espionage Act.” While it makes no sense to be prosecuted as a traitor to a country of which you are not a citizen, the idea that journalists who do their job and expose criminality in high places are treated like traitors is deeply dangerous in a free society.

To get around the First Amendment’s guarantee of freedom of the press, Assange’s tormentors simply claim that he is not a journalist. Then-CIA director Mike Pompeo declared that Wikileaks was a “hostile intelligence service” aided by Russia. Ironically, that’s pretty much what the Democrats say about Assange.

Earlier this month, a US Federal appeals court judge ruled that the NSA’s bulk collection of Americans’ telephone records was illegal. That bulk collection program, born out of the anti-American PATRIOT Act, was first revealed to us by whistleblower Edward Snowden just over seven years ago.

That is why whistleblowers and those who publish their information are so important. Were it not for Snowden and Assange, we would never know about this government criminality. And if we never know about government malfeasance it can neve be found to be criminal in the first place. That is convenient for governments, but it is also a recipe for tyranny.

While we might expect the US media to aggressively come to the aid of a fellow journalist being persecuted by the government for doing his job, the opposite is happening. As journalist Glen Greenwald wrote last week, the US mainstream media is completely ignoring the Assange extradition trial.

Why would they do such a thing? Partisan politics. Journalists – with a few important exceptions like Greenwald himself – are no longer interested in digging and reporting the truth. These days they believe they have a “higher calling.”

As Greenwald puts it, “If you start from the premise that Trump is a fascist dictator who has brought Nazi tyranny to the US, then it isn’t that irrational to believe that anyone who helped empower Trump (which is how they see Assange) deserves to be imprisoned, hence the lack of concern about it.”

That may seem like a good idea to these journalists in the short term, but for journalism itself to become an extension of government power rather than a check on that power would be deeply harmful.

We cannot have a self-governing society as was intended for our Republic if the government, with the complicity of the mainstream media, decides that there are things we are not allowed to know about it. President Trump should end the US government’s war on Assange…and on all whistleblowers and their publishers.

Joe Biden Botches Pledge: “I Pledge Allegiance to the United States of America. One Nation, Indivisible, Under God, For Real” (VIDEO)

You know, the thing!

Joe Biden bungled the Pledge of Allegiance during his Wisconsin speech on Monday.

77-year-old Biden delivered a doom and gloom speech on Covid from Manitowoc, Wisconsin.

His speech started off awkward because his mask was on backwards.

Then this happened…

Biden botched the Pledge of Allegiance.

“I pledge allegiance to the United States of America. One nation, indivisible, under God, for real,” said Biden.

WATCH:

Biden on Monday also falsely claimed 200 Americans died from Covid after he claimed 200 million died yesterday.

GHOULISH FRAUD: Youngest “C19 Victim” in Michigan Actually Died from Birth Defect where Baby is Born with Intestines Located Outside its Body

You’re being lied to.

As we reported last week that the CDC included 5,692 intentional injuries and poisonings in their total US coronavirus death count.

This follows a previous Gateway Pundit report in August that that only 9,210 COVID-19 victims in the US died exclusively from the coronavirus alone. The rest included patients with serious comorbidities.

And the health departments around the US continue to pad their numbers with fraudulent victims.

Recently Michigan officials listed a 2-month old as the “youngest C19 victim in the state.” The TRUE cause of death “was a birth defect called gastroschisis, a condition in which a baby is born with intestines located outside the body.”

This is medical fraud.
The bigger question is why are they lying to us?

Biden Flees Podium Before Reporters Can Ask Questions in Wisconsin (VIDEO)

Joe Biden traveled to Wisconsin on Monday to deliver a doom and gloom speech on Covid deaths in the US.

As usual, Biden’s event in Manitowoc was a carefully crafted stunt with social distancing circles.

Only a small pool of approved reporters were allowed inside the event.

Biden’s short speech started off awkward because his mask was on backwards.

He bungled the Pledge of Allegiance and falsely claimed 200 Americans died from Covid.

Biden’s campaign blasted loud music to drown out reporters as soon as he concluded his speech.

Biden bolted from the lectern and refused to take questions from reporters.

Why does Biden even bother traveling to different states if he doesn’t answer questions from the media?

Antifa militants smash up SUV with terrified dog inside — and believe it or not, driver reportedly is anti-Trump

It was another banner day for the Antifa faithful — and this time their antics took place amid a Saturday counterprotest in a park under sunny Philadelphia skies.

What happened?

Seems there were rumblings that the Proud Boys had a rally planned in Clark Park, which — according to the Philadelphia Inquirer — is located in "one of the most progressive, racially diverse neighborhoods in the city."

"Clark Park remains a place where folks from all walks of life come to recreate and to convene and to just be," Jamie Gauthier, who represents the neighborhood on the city council, said in a speech, according to the paper. "The white supremacist hate group that plan to come here today, they set out to disrupt all of that."

But the Inquirer noted that while the Proud Boys never showed, about 500 "locals" did arrive in the afternoon to oppose the controversial, conservative group.

More from the paper:

Social media posts claimed there was a Proud Boys presence at the park, with members saying they were there disguised as journalists to gather information about leftist activists, but they did not engage in organized demonstrations.

A Proud Boys social media page claimed the event, which had been promoted for at least two weeks, was always intended to be a fake, and was a ploy to expose Antifa violence.

BlazeTV’s Elijah Schaffer noted that at one point a member of the crowd opposed to President Donald Trump came alongside content creator James Klug and — in a move of apparent intimidation — smacked the ground hard with a bat. But Schaffer said the crowd turned on the anti-Trump man — confusing him for a Trump supporter and calling him a Nazi — and chased him out of the park.

The Proud Boys social media site said the man isn’t with the organization, the Inquirer noted.

Soon after Antifa militants who were administering the man’s expulsion followed the man to his SUV and proceeded to smash it up — with a "terrified" dog inside, Schaffer said.

The leftist militants broke the vehicle’s rear window — with the dog barking and poking its head into shards of glass — and continually kicked the side panels.

"Get the f*** out of here, motherf***er!" one Antifa member hollered at the man before he pulled out of his parking spot and drove off.

One of the Antifa faithful threw a large rock at the escaping vehicle for good measure:

It Begins: Potential RBG Replacement Judge Amy Coney Barrett Under Attack For Religion, Children, Support For Due Process

President Donald Trump said Monday that he plans to announce a replacement for Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg as early as Wednesday and that his list is “down to five” people. Likely among them is Amy Coney Barrett, a judge on the  the Chicago-based 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals and, although it’s not clear where she falls on Trump’s list, left-leaning activists and the mainstream media appear to have marked her as a top threat.

The Washington Post has been leading the way in rooting out concerns about Barrett, with two reporters weighing in on the judge’s record — and her Catholic faith.

On Monday, the Washington Post reported that Barrett authored a significant ruling on campus sexual assault, challenging universities that used lower standards of guilt to convict students accused of sexual assaults on campus and opened the door to students accused and convicted of sexual assaults by campus authorities to appeal those decisions.

“Amy Coney Barrett, a leading contender for the Supreme Court seat held by the late Ruth Bader Ginsburg, wrote an influential appellate decision last year that made it easier for students accused of sexual assault to challenge universities’ handling of their cases,” the WaPo reported. “Barrett led a three-woman panel of judges that said Purdue University may have discriminated against a male student accused of sexual assault when it suspended him for a year, a punishment that cost him his spot in the Navy ROTC program.”

In another shocking revelation, the Washington Post noted that Amy Coney Barrett, who is well known to be a devout Catholic, is also a Christian.

“Amy Coney Barrett, the judge at the top of Trump’s list to replace Ruth Bader Ginsburg, has said we should always remember that a ‘legal career is but a means to an end … and that end is building the Kingdom of God,’” one Washington Post reporter tweeted breathlessly, referencing a story published over the weekend with details about Barrett’s life.

Progressive activists, not content to focus on Barrett’s record, zeroed in on her seven children, claiming that Barrett was trying to model the large family she would “force” on other women should she be nominated and confirmed to the Supreme Court.

“Trump’s likely RBG replacement, Amy Coney Barrett, is a Catholic extremist with 7 children who does not believe employers should be required to provide health care coverage for birth control,” one panicked. “She wants the rest of American women to be stuck with her extreme lifestyle.”

Barrett, of course, is a law professor and accomplished judge who also raised seven children, two of whom are adopted. The combination should win her accolades but because she would likely support a past Supreme Court decision noting that the First Amendment’s guarantee of religious liberty allows elderly nuns to challenge a requirement of the Affordable Care Act that they pay for birth control in violation of their closely held religious beliefs, she’s exiled.
