A curious recusal in the sentencing of Michael Flynn could be an indicator of something very big happening

Something very strange, and possibly extremely significant, happened yesterday, with no explanation and little notice from the media. But two different writers for the same DC-insider publication rushed to be the first to note this barely-noticed move, suggesting that they know something big is happening.

To my deep sorrow, the skills of a Kremlinologist – the people who specialized in interpreting small signs, such as who stood next to whom reviewing military parades in Red Square, to figure out the real power structure within the secretive upper ranks of the USSR – are necessary to figure out what is going on in the Deep State attempts to take down the Trump presidency. The two writers rushing to be the first to break the story work for Politico, the publication that specializes in DC insidership. They rushed to be the first to note the case of the curious recusal.  First was Sean Davis, whose tweet went up at 5:23 PM yesterday:

If we put on our Kremlinologist hats, “nobody knows why” translates to “Something big could be happening!” and implying “I was the first to note it.”

A mere 15 minutes later, his colleague at Politico, Josh Gerstein, published an article on that site with more background, but no explanation of why:

Judge Emmet Sullivan was randomly assigned to take over the case after Judge Rudolph Contreras recused himself. (snip)

Sullivan is an appointee of President Bill Clinton, and Contreras was appointed by President Barack Obama.

When it comes to assembling evidence, creating timelines, and inferring what is really going on beneath the veneer the public is allowed to see, nobody is better than Sundance of Conservative Treehouse. He writes:

As soon as CTH saw the name Judge Rudolph Contreras our spidey sense alarm bells began ringing.  You know why?…

Judge Rudolph Contreras is one of a very small group of FISA Court Judges. –LINK

My instincts tell me that Judge Contreras was most likely the judge who signed off on the FISA warrant that led to the surveillance of Donald Trump’s campaign officials, that included National Security Advisor General Michael Flynn.

Those FBI FISA warrants are now coming under scrutiny.

It would be EXPLOSIVE if it turned out that the FISA warrants were gained by deception, misleading information, manipulated information, or fraud…. and that warrant led to the wiretapping and surveillance of General Michael Flynn was authorized by Contreras…. who would now be the judge in Flynn’s case.

Yes, the conflict of interest would be beyond stunning.

That FISA warrant, of course, is the potential Rosetta Stone of the suspected plot to surveil the Trump campaign for president. Spying on the opposition by using the most feared surveillance capacity in the world, provided by US taxpayers. And, it is reasonably suspected (but not proven because everything is under wraps) that the bogus “dossier” produced by Fusion GPS with the help of Russian sources was used to obtain a FISA Court warrant to use the NSA’s universal surveillance of electronic communications to “unmask” first Carter Page, and subsequently an unknown number of staffers in the Trump campaign.

In a lengthy post eslewhere, Sundance laid out the timeline and inferences about how the FISA warrant was obtained after first being rejected by the FISA Court (something that happens very rarely). I will not attempt to summarize it here, but a key figure (and White Hat) is Admiral Mike Rogers.

The Inspector General of the DOJ currently is investigating these matters, and his report, expected early next year, may answer all these questions. Or it may not.

So we are left with straws in the wind, and our suspicions.

If and when the details are exposed and prove out Sundance’s (and my) suspicions, this will make Watergate look like the “third rate burglary” it was characterized as by President Nixon’s allies.  A sitting president and his candidate to succeed him weaponizing the nation’s intelligence agencies to sabotage the opposition. You cannot exaggerate the magnitude of the consequences.

Bombshell: Roy Moore Accuser Beverly Nelson Admits She Forged Yearbook

Beverly Young Nelson has finally admitted that she forged a portion of the infamous high school yearbook that she and attorney Gloria Allred used as proof of her accusations against U.S. Senate candidate Roy Moore.

And in yet another blow to the credibility of ABC News, the disgraced, left-wing network downplayed the bombshell by presenting this admission of forgery as adding “notes” to the inscription.

“Nelson admits she did make notes to the inscription,” ABC News tells us, “But the message was all Roy Moore.”

“Beverly he signed your yearbook,”ABC News reporter Tom Llamas says.

“He did sign it,” she replies.

“And you made some notes underneath.”

“Yes,” Nelson says.

And then, after a woman admits to forging a document used in a campaign to destroy the Republican nominee for the U.S. Senate in Alabama, ABC News quickly moves on as though it is not news of extraordinary consequence.

Nelson is accusing Moore of attempting to assault her when she was just 16-years-old. With the election just four days away, this admission of forgery could not come at a better time for Moore. Nelson and Allred are planning a news conference later Friday, but nothing will overcome the forgery admission.

How can anyone believe anything she says after admitting to such a thing? Early reports are that Nelson and Allred will produce an expert to prove the rest of the yearbook is not a forgery. So a proven forger is bringing in her own expert. What an insult to the people of Alabama.

Another problem with Nelson is that she has motive to lie and forge, as a circuit judge, Moore ruled against her in a 1999 divorce case.

The Moore campaign have been pressuring Nelson and Allred for weeks to submit the yearbook for independent handwriting analysis. Now everyone knows why that request was rejected and ignored.

With Nelson now thoroughly discredited, this leaves two accusers against Moore.

One is Leigh Corfman, who claims Moore molested her as a 14 year-old child. She is the most credible of the three, but the narrative behind her story, that Moore’s abuse resulted in Corfman living a troubled life of “drinking, drugs, boyfriends, and a suicide attempt,” is directly contradicted by contemporaneous court records.

Moore’s final accuser is Tina Johnson, a woman who claims Moore groped her butt in his office in 1991. But again, as was the case with Corfman and Nelson, the left-wing media outlets reporting these allegations (The Washington Post, AL.com) either failed to fully vet the accusers or withheld crucial context.

Thanks to New Media going behind these discredited outlets to fact check the reporting, we now know that Johnson did not tell the entire truth. She was not in Moore’s office “on business.” If she was in Moore’s office at all, it was due to a bitter custody battle where Moore represented Johnson’s mother, who was trying to gain custody of Johnson’s 12 year-old son based on the claim that Johnson was a “unfit, absent, and unstable mother.”

If the media and the accusers and Gloria Allred told the full truth to begin with, they would all be more credible.

As far as the accusations against Moore involving him wanting to date teenage girls, those are trumped up charges, utter nonsense. The age of consent in Alabama was and is 16. Moreover, 40- years-ago it was not at all uncommon in the South for 32-year-old man to seek a much younger bride. So, not only did Moore not break the law, he was not violating any social mores.

Trump’s DOJ Officially Steps In to Finally Bring Justice to Steinle Case

On Tuesday a federal grand jury indicted Jose Ines Garcia Zarate on immigration and weapons charges, giving prosecutors a new crack at the five-time-deported illegal immigrant who was acquitted last month of murder in the death two years ago of San Francisco resident Kate Steinle.

The jury specifically indicted Garcia Zarate “for being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, and for being an illegally present alien in possession of a firearm and ammunition,” according to a statement by the Department of Justice.

If convicted, Garcia Zarate — also known by the alias Juan Francisco Lopez-Sanchez — would face up to 10 years in federal prison, in addition to whatever state prison sentence he receives when he appears in court Dec. 12 to be sentenced for a weapons conviction he obtained in the Steinle case.

Instead of being convicted of murdering Steinle, Garcia Zarate wound up receiving a conviction on Nov. 30 for being a felon in unlawful possession of a firearm, a relatively minor charge that could entail him serving a maximum of three years in prison, according to The New York Times.

Following Garcia Zarate’s acquittal on the murder charge, a number of prominent Trump administration officials lashed out, with President Donald Trump himself deriding the verdict as “disgraceful.”

TRENDING: Trump Begins Demolition of Michelle’s Proudest Achievement

Attorney General Jeff Sessions likewise released a statement slamming jurisdictions that “choose to return criminal aliens to the streets rather than turning them over to federal immigration authorities.”

However, DOJ spokeswoman Sarah Isgur Flores made it clear the department intended to review the case to see what it could do.

“We’re looking at every option and we will prosecute this to the fullest extent of the law because these cases are tragic and entirely preventable,” she said at the time.

But since the principle of “double jeopardy” prevents the government from trying Garcia Zarate on the same charges as before, the DOJ has instead brought immigration and weapons charges against him.

RELATED: Scott Walker Lost Every Welfare Leech’s Vote With New Requirements

Garcia’s potential sentence is unclear, assuming he’s convicted. Each of the new charges carries a maximum 10-year prison term, according to the Justice Department statement, but that isn’t guaranteed.

“If convicted of either violation … Garcia-Zarate faces a maximum statutory penalty of 10 years in prison,” the statement reads.  “However, any sentence will be imposed by the court only after consideration of the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and the federal statute governing the imposition of a sentence…”

Most of us would admittedly rather he rot in prison for the remainder of his life over his murder of Steinle, who was only 32 when he killed her in 2015.

Sadly, this simply isn’t a possibility now, meaning we must accept whatever we can get at this point.

More Countries Follow Trump’s Lead in Declaring Jerusalem to be Israel’s Capital

Only hours after U.S. President Donald Trump formally recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel early Wednesday afternoon, the Czech Republic, a European Union member state, unexpectedly followed suit.

“The Czech Republic together with other EU member states, following the EU Foreign Affaires Council Conclusions, considers Jerusalem to be future capital of both states, meaning the State of Israel and the future State of Palestine,” the nation’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced in a statement.

However, the ministry made it clear it only recognizes the western half of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, stating that it specifically “recognizes Jerusalem to be in fact the capital of Israel in the borders of the demarcation line from 1967.”

According to The Hill, before “Israel seized control of the eastern half in the Six-Day War of 1967,” it only had possession of half of Jerusalem — and it’s this portion of the city which the Czech Republic now recognizes as Israel’s capital.

The ministry further cautioned that it cannot relocate its own embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem like Trump has pledged to do with the U.S embassy, unless “negotiations with key partners in the region and in the world” first occur.

TRENDING: Trump Begins Demolition of Michelle’s Proudest Achievement

Despite the ministry’s stipulations, and despite its claim to have come “together with other EU member states” in reaching its decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, the statement was nevertheless a major bombshell.

As noted by The Jerusalem Post, by recognizing Jerusalem, the Czech Republic broke with the litany of “EU member states who hold Jerusalem should not (be) recognized as Israel’s capital until a final status agreement is reached.”

The Czech Republic probably likewise just earned itself the ire of Muslims across the Middle East, who responded to Trump’s own declarations Wednesday afternoon with great anger.

The U.K. Daily Telegraph reported Thursday morning that a number of clashes had broken out in the Gaza Strip as the terrorist group Hamas “called for new intifada against Israel in response to Donald Trump’s decision to recognise the Jerusalem as the Israeli capital.”

“This Zionist policy supported by the US cannot be confronted unless we ignite a new intifada,” said the terror group’s leader, Ismail Haniyeh, according to the Telegraph. “The U.S. decision is an aggression, a declaration of war on us, on the best Muslim and Christian shrines in the heart of Palestine, Jerusalem.”

Whether Haniyeh views the Czech Republic’s declaration in a similar light remains unclear.

According to the Israeli news outlet Haaretz, Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte has also expressed interest in relocating his country’s embassy to Jerusalem.

RELATED: More Democrats Vote for Trump Than Against Him in Impeachment Vote

Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has claimed a number of other countries desire to follow in the United States and the Czech Republic’s footsteps.

“(W)e are already in contact with other states that will make a similar recognition,” he said, as reported by the The U.K. Independent.

Yet, the mainstream media in the West is treating Trump’s action like a disaster, denounced by the entire globe.

Check out this clearly exaggerated BBC headline: “World condemns Trump’s announcement.”

To back up that headline, the BBC described reactions in Muslim and Arab countries (predictably “outraged”); hand-wringing statements from the United Nations general secretary and the European Union’s foreign policy chief (again, predictable); and lukewarm disagreement from the leaders of Britain, France and Germany. (Calling something “unhelpful” isn’t what most people think of when they hear the word “condemns.”)

Fake news, anyone?

Please share this story on Facebook and Twitter and let us know what you think about the domino effect President Trump has clearly started.

Hampshire College Apologizes After Abruptly Canceling Conservative Speaker’s Event

Antonia Okafor / Twitter

BY:

Massachusetts’ Hampshire College issued an apology Wednesday after it suddenly canceled a speech by a guest conservative speaker.

Antonia Okafor is a graduate student at the University of Texas and an advocate of gun rights and campus concealed carry. On Wednesday night, she was scheduled to speak on “Female Empowerment & the Second Amendment” at the small liberal arts college known for its alternative curriculum and liberal politics.

But Okafor tweeted only hours before the event that the speech had been cancelled because administrators ruled she was speaking about a “very controversial” issue.

Hampshire College issued a statement soon after to “sincerely apologize” for the decision, and vowed to reschedule the event.

“We did not cancel the speech because of the speaker, the subject of the speech, or the content,” the statement said. “Hampshire College values academic freedom and the careful examination of ideas, including when those ideas may be controversial.”

Instead, the administration claimed the event organizers failed to inform them the event might draw large crowds and provoke debate. “The College did not follow its own procedures in sufficiently reviewing the application before we approved it. We take responsibility for that mistake.”

Okafor is slated to give the same address tonight at nearby Mount Holyoke College, which has prompted campus activists to set up an “alternative space” for protesters to voice anger.

‘God brought us all together’: Police officer meets drug-addicted couple — and adopts their baby

After an Albuquerque police officer met a homeless, opioid-addicted expectant mother, he adopted her baby girl.

What led to this?

According to CNN, Albuquerque police officer Ryan Holets, 27, responded to a possible theft at a convenience store in September. As he left the store, he saw a couple sitting on the grass outside, and he realized it looked as if they were shooting up heroin in broad daylight.

Holets approached the couple and realized the woman — who was injecting a needle into the man’s arm — was pregnant.

“It’s not every day I see a sight like that and it just made me really sad,” he told CNN.

The woman, Crystal Champ, 35, told Holets that she was nearly 8 months pregnant and she was addicted to drugs.

In bodycam footage, Holets told Champ, “You’re going to kill your baby.”

“Why do you have to be doing that stuff?” he asked. “It’s going to ruin your baby.”

Champ told CNN that although she is pro-choice, she didn’t want to have an abortion when she became pregnant.

“I was like how dare you judge me. You have no idea how hard this is,” Champ told CNN of the encounter. “I know what a horrible person I am and what a horrible situation I’m in.”

Champ, who said she has battled addiction since she was a teenager, told CNN she been homeless for more than two years. She has tried and failed to get clean.

“I did give up. I just decided this was going to be my life,” Champ said. “It just keeps coming back and ruining my life.”

Champ said that Holets’ demeanor changed when she told him she was looking for someone to adopt her unborn child.

“He became a human being instead of a police officer,” Champ said.

Instead of charging the couple with drug possession, the officer showed Champ a picture of his wife and their four children and offered to adopt her baby.

“I was led by God to take the chance,” Holets said. “God brought us all together. I really don’t have any other way to explain it.”

He added, “I just felt God telling me to tell her, that you will do it because you can. You can.”

Champ said she was stunned by the offer and looked at him to “make sure his eyes were genuine and that I could see his soul.” She then realized her prayers had been answered.

Holets left and went to find his wife, Rebecca, who was attending a going-away party for a friend.

Ryan Holets found her and told her about the encounter and his offer.

Rebecca Holets told CNN that she and her husband had previously discussed adoption, but they intended to wait a few years. But when she heard his story, she didn’t hesitate.

“He already knew my heart on the issue and he knew that I would be totally onboard with it,” Rebecca said.

Even though one of their children was just 10 months old, Rebecca said she knew she and her husband could care for another baby.

“We feel God has called us to do that,” Rebecca said. “It’s been on our hearts for a while.”

Champ gave birth to a baby girl in October. The Holets attended her birth and named her Hope.

Rebecca said Champ called the baby beautiful and said she loved her.

“And then she turns to me and says ‘Take care of her for me,’” Rebecca said. “And I said, ‘I will take good care of her and you take good care of yourself.’ It was super emotional.”

The family said Hope suffered a painful detoxing process, withdrawals, and methadone treatment. She is now home with her family, but still undergoes weekly medical checkups.

Champ is still battling her addiction, but called the adoptive parents of her baby girl a “light in this world.”

“There needs to be more people like Ryan and his wife and their family in this world,” she said.

How has the public reacted?

The story quickly gained attention online. Holets told The Washington Post that he never expected the story to go viral.

“We didn’t do this to have a story,” Holets said. “That is entirely not why we did it, but after talking to some close friends whom I trust, we realized this was a way to put a face on the drug problem and maybe encourage other people to adopt.”

He said another officer — Sgt. Jim Edison — signed him up to do an interview for CNN’s “Beyond the Call of Duty” series without telling him.

“Every day he calls me to ask for forgiveness,” Holets said. “And I keep assuring him that we’re fine. We didn’t quite realize it would get this response, and neither did he. … But we all realize it’s a really good thing, and some really good things can come of it.”

Holets asked for people inspired by the story to make a donation to a local drug rehabilitation center or adoption organization.

The Post reported that Holets is seeking treatment for Champ and her partner and gave them a tablet computer so he can email them pictures of Hope.

BREAKING: Top DOJ Official Demoted Over Suspicious Contact With Fusion GPS

Leading Justice Department official Bruce G. Ohr has been demoted following an investigation into his suspicious contact with opposition research firm Fusion GPS.

Fox News reports:

A senior Justice Department official was demoted this week amid an ongoing investigation into his contacts with the opposition research firm responsible for the anti-Trump “dossier,” the department confirmed to Fox News.

Until Wednesday morning, Bruce G. Ohr held two titles at DOJ: associate deputy attorney general, a post that placed him four doors down from his boss, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein; and director of the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF), a program described by the department as “the centerpiece of the attorney general’s drug strategy.” […]

Initially senior department officials could not provide the reason for Ohr’s demotion, but Fox News has learned that evidence collected by the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence (HPSCI), chaired by Rep. Devin Nunes, R-Calif., indicates that Ohr met during the 2016 campaign with Christopher Steele, the former British spy who authored the “dossier.” […]

Additionally, House investigators have determined that Ohr met shortly after the election with Glenn Simpson, the founder of Fusion GPS – the opposition research firm that hired Steele to compile the dossier with funds supplied by the Hillary Clinton campaign and the Democratic National Committee.

In a statement to Fox News, a Justice Department spokesperson said, “It is unusual for anyone to wear two hats as he has done recently. This person is going to go back to a single focus—director of our organized crime and drug enforcement unit. As you know, combatting transnational criminal organizations and drug trafficking is a top priority for the Attorney General.”

The news comes amid reports Trump-hating FBI agent Peter Strzok played a key role in analyzing the infamous ‘Trump dossier,’ supplied by shady research firm Fusion GPS.

Fox News’ James Rosen also reveals Strzok played a key role in agreeing to pay ex-MI6 agent Christopher Steele $50,000 to find evidence to further support the dossier’s explosive claims. FBI officials were uncomfortable with the validity of Steele’s findings, yet they moved forward with FISA surveillance anyways.

Why Trump’s Jerusalem move is triggering a chain reaction

There’s nothing like a little U.S. leadership. President Trump’s announcement that he was moving the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem is seeing a heartening chain reaction as other nations follow our lead. Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu says he’s hearing from all kinds of nations now. And the reasons are as much internal to the states following President Trump’s lead as they are supportive of Israel. It seems that to affirm Israel is to affirm oneself.

The Czech Republic wasted no time declaring that it, too, would be moving its capital to Jerusalem. It would make sense, yet it’s a little bit curious. The move has none of the religious overtones that fueled the move in the U.S. The Czechs are one of the most atheistic countries in Europe. But there are other factors: the Czechs surely wanted to throw a sopping mop into the face of its European Union masters who are attempting to foist millions of angry Islamic “refugees” onto the tiny unwilling nation. And it’s possible the Czech leaders, even the lefty they have elected, gets along well with Israel’s Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu. But even more likely, the Czechs and Israelis get along very well as peoples, given that both nations, generally speaking, have a lot of brainy people: intellectuals, people of high culture, and entrepreneurs. There may have been domestic political pressures in the Czech declaration that it would move its capital to Jerusalem.

There’s also a wave of sub-Saharan African states, Christian nations, preparing an exodus to Jerusalem. Many of these states are under threat of Islamicization and Islamist terror, of course. But Ethiopia and Israel have had good relations for years, and Ethiopia is deeply Christian. Kenya, Malawi, South Africa, Botswana, Tanzania and Angola are all nations worth watching, too. In the case of Africa, there’s a repeating cultural motif of love for Israel and the promised land, too, linked to its generally dynamic Christian culture. To move a nation’s embassy to Jerusalem is to signal a fealty to the Lord, and to express something about what one is as a nation, an identity move. South African folk singer Johnny Clegg has a notable song in his repertoire on Jerusalem, Ethiopia has heritage of attachment to Zion, too. Religious factors are likely to run deep in this region’s move toward Jerusalem.

Lastly, there is talk that the Philippines may move its embassy to Jerusalem. This may have a religious aspect, too. But the personal is not to be dismissed here, it’s probably pretty marked. President Duterte of the Philippines is well known for going it alone and he has a significant contempt for Europe’s polite society. What better way to show that than to follow President Trump on Israel now that the Eurotrash and all its human rights investigators is howling about it? Not being an especially virtuous man himself, he can virtue-signal to the Philippines’ religious people about being aligned to Jerusalem to make up for some of his less justifiable actions internally, while annoying the global elites at the same time.

Another factor, which will have to be investigated, but is likely worth looking at is the impact of the great wave of arrests in Saudi Arabia and the oil bust. Saudi cash from the now-arrested princelings has until recently been spread liberally in the U.S. (the Clinton Foundation sopped it up like a sponge) and throughout the third world. The oil bust and the demise of the patrons and their cash has ended a lot of buying off of nations for Arab grievance causes such as terrorist-infested Palestine. No Saudi money, no reason to follow the old agenda – especially since Saudi Arabia under its new ruler isn’t interested in that agenda, either. Saudi Arabia with its new leadership actually wants to get along with Israel. We can await Saudi Arabia’s move to Jerusalem to really shake things up.

But President Trump’s move to Jerusalem was what opened the floodgates. Seems that going it alone and asserting one’s sovereignty in the name of national interests, not EU and UN diktats or Saudi cash is being recognized by quite a few nations as good for everyone. All it took was President Trump to light the candle. This is wonderful.

Hero Cop From Pulse Nightclub Terror Attack Is Losing His Job And Pension

In a gross miscarriage of justice one of the first police officers to respond to the 2016 terrorist attack at Pulse nightclub in Orlando, Florida, will soon lose his job. The officer, Corporal Omar Delgado, has suffered post-traumatic stress disorder since the attack. Despite moving from patrol duty to a desk job, a doctor has concluded that Delgado’s condition renders him unfit to remain on the force. Adding insult to injury, the hero police officer is being fired just months before he would qualify for full pension benefits.

“It’s a small town,” explained Delgado. “Everyone’s family here, and I thought I was going to be treated like family. I didn’t think I was going to be treated this way.” Unfortunately, his town of Eatonville has struggled financially, as the 2,000-member community tries to support a small police department. Rather than receiving 64% of his $38,500 salary and benefits for life, Delgado will have to wait ten years and then only be eligible to receive 42% of his salary.

Florida state lawmakers are considering a bill that would require workers compensation programs to include mental health treatment coverage for first responders with PTSD, but prospects are dim for Delgado. A similar law proposed last year failed even to make it to the floor for a vote. The Eatonville Town Council has offered Delgado $1,200 in accrued sick time, but that payout won’t get the suffering officer very far. Mayor Eddie Cole defended the decision, saying, “This town, as well as me, cares about people. But some pictures are bigger than we all know.”

Angel Colon, a Pulse nightclub attendee whose life Delgado saved by dragging him through the carnage to safety, feels the betrayal personally. “He was my hero,” Colon explains. “He saved my life, and for them to just do what they’re doing to him in front of my face is a slap to my face as well.”

In July, a woman named Kelly Anderson Kutcher set up a GoFundMe page for Officer Delgado to offset the costs associated with his injuries.

John Conyers’ Son Arrested in February, Accused of Stabbing Girlfriend in Domestic Dispute

John Conyers III, the son of embattled Rep. John Conyers (D-MI), had been accused of stabbing his ex-girlfriend in a domestic dispute in February, reports say.

The younger Conyers, a Detroit hedge fund manager who had been endorsed by his father to take his place in the House of Representatives, was arrested but not charged for allegedly stabbing and bodyslamming his then-girlfriend during an argument they had in Los Angeles, California, the New York Times reported.

Conyers III told the Times in an interview Wednesday about the encounter as a way to prevent scandal after his father announced his retirement following allegations of sexual harassment.

The younger Conyers said he and his girlfriend got into an argument at 3 a.m. February 15 that turned into a physical fight. Police later arrested him for domestic violence, but the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office dropped the charges.

His girlfriend, who is not identified in court documents, secured a restraining order against Conyers III that remains in effect through March 2018.

Conyers III maintained his innocence in the interview with the Times.

“She says I stabbed her, which makes no sense,” Conyers III, 27, said. “I didn’t do this. She and I had a verbal altercation, and that escalated. She pulled the knife on me. She was chasing me. I tried to take it from her. There was a struggle. I pinned her to the wall. She kept swinging, and she cut herself.”

The girlfriend, however, told a different story to police. She told investigators that her 27-year-old boyfriend at the time became violent after accusing her of cheating on him.

She added that Conyers III “body slammed her on the bed and then on the floor where he pinned her down and spit on her,” according to court documents obtained by the New York Daily News.

After she tried to call the police, Conyers allegedly snatched her phone and chased her into the kitchen. She brandished a knife and yelled at him to leave, but Conyers allegedly snatched the knife from her hands and sliced her arm while swinging the knife at her.

Conyers III had been released $50,000 bond the same day as his arrest, and the district attorney’s office declined to pursue charges, citing a “lack of independent witnesses.”

Although the girlfriend suffered a small stab wound to her lower bicep, prosecutors said they did not have enough evidence to prove that she did not accidentally injure herself.

The elder Conyers announced his retirement from Congress Tuesday and endorsed the younger Conyers to run as his successor.

The longest-serving House member had been hospitalized recently for what staffers say are stress-related health issues.

Conyers announced in November that he would step down from his seat as a ranking member on the House Judiciary Committee as accusations of his sexually harassing employees mounted.

A BuzzFeed News report revealed that Conyers’ congressional office paid a former female staffer $27,000 of taxpayer funds to settle a sexual harassment claim, which prompted the House Ethics Committee to investigate Conyers’ conduct.
