Former ATF Gun Tech Chief: Bump Stock Ban Will Lead to Other Bans

Former ATF Gun Tech Chief: Bump Stock Ban Will Lead to Other Bans

Former ATF Gun Tech Chief Rick Vasquez warns that the ATF’s current push to ban bump stocks will open the door to other bans.

A legislative push to ban bump stocks lost steam within a month of the October 1, 2017, Las Vegas attack. The public simply did not rally behind the gun control campaign. This left the ruling class no option but to take the regulatory route and seek bump stock gun control via ATF edict.

On December 22, 2017, Breitbart News reported that the ATF was formulating a redefinition of “machineguns” so that the term would cover “machineguns” and non-machineguns as well. Gun controllers have to do this because a bump stock does not convert a semiautomatic firearm into a “machinegun.” Rather, it allows a semiautomatic firearm to mimic full-auto fire in short bursts, but does so without converting the firearm’s action or allowing multiple rounds to be fired with a single trigger pull.

Even with a bump stock attached a semiautomatic firearm only shoots one round per trigger pull.

Moreover, under Barack Obama the ATF examined bump stocks and approved them for sale on the grounds that they are accessories, not conversion devices.

The ATF’s former gun tech chief is warning that efforts to redefine “machineguns,” for the the purposes of banning bump stocks, will only lead to more bans. He told the Military News Channel, “So ATF’s been directed to write a regulation with the strength of a law.” He said the advance notice copy of the new rule makes clear that the ATF’s new regulation will ban “any device that automatically resets a firearm and enhances the rate of fire.” He added, “That is extremely broad.”

Vasquez observed, “They are trying to target binary triggers, [bump stock] devices, and other devices, but that is such broad language, can I take that to a Gatling gun? …So now you start stretching this [new] definition, and who is going to decide what the [standard] rate of fire is?” In other words, Vasquez is saying a this new ban simply opens the door to “stretching” the language to cover other devices, as the ruling class sees fit.

On January 11, 2018, Breitbart News reported that Gun Owners of America was taking the lead against bump stock gun control and sounding the alarm that the ATF’s bump stock ban would lead to other bans. They reacted to Vasquez’s statements by tweeting:

Vasquez also stressed that there will be no “grandfather clause” with a new ATF bump stock ban. This means individuals who refuse to turn over a bump stocks will immediately become a “prohibited person.”

Veterans Group Says NFL Censored Pro-National Anthem #PleaseStand Super Bowl Ad

Veterans Group Says NFL Censored Pro-National Anthem #PleaseStand Super Bowl Ad

AMVETS officials are saying that the National Football League censored their TV advertisement because it criticized the league’s widespread protests against the country during the playing of the national anthem.

The nation’s largest veterans service organization was approached by the NFL to place an ad during the big game this year but when AMVETS submitted the ad containing the hashtag “#PleaseStand,” the NFL rejected it, according to the Army Times.

The ad, projected to cost the group $30,000, also featured veterans saluting the flag and ended with information on how to donate to the charitable organization.

AMVETS National Commander Marion Polk reported that the NFL rejected the ad but did not give a reason for the decision.

“It’s a simple, polite request that represents the sentiment of our membership, particularly those whose missing or paralyzed limbs preclude standing,” Polk wrote in a letter to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.

The AMVETS chief noted the irony that the NFL continues to claim that the anti-American protests represent “free speech” even as the league denied the AMVETS ad.

“Freedom of speech works both ways. We respect the rights of those who choose to protest, as these rights are precisely what our members have fought – and in many cases died – for,” Polk added in the letter. “But imposing corporate censorship to deny that same right to those veterans who have secured it for us all is reprehensible and totally beyond the pale.”

A league spokesman defended the rejection of the ad saying that it didn’t “celebrate” football enough.

NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy told the Times that the advertisement program “is designed for fans to commemorate and celebrate the game, players, teams, and the Super Bowl.”

McCarthy added, “It’s never been a place for advertising that could be considered by some as a political statement.”

The statement seems to lack any introspection or sense of irony as for two years millions of fans have been saying that football isn’t “designed” for the “political statements” represented by the constant stream of anti-American protests mounted by millionaire players.

But AMVETS leader Polk criticized the league’s proclamation and bristled at the league’s penchant for using veterans as props for photo ops.

“Veterans are good for more than just military aircraft flyovers, photo opportunities during halftime, or props to sell camouflage-style NFL apparel; although, the NFL’s stance on not allowing the veterans’ unfiltered voice to be heard says otherwise,” Polk said.

“AMVETS officials said the same #PleaseStand ad was accepted by the National Hockey League and Major League Baseball for inclusion in their all-star games’ programs. The organization sees the advertisement as an extension of their role as a ‘nonpartisan advocate for veterans and their families.’”

The Super Bowl will be played on February 4th, in Minnesota.

Borderline Psychotic Sow Rosie O’Donnell Loses It AGAIN

Rampaging Rosie is off her meds again and back on Twitter. The bloated liberal media personality has repeatedly demonstrated that she needs a serious vacation in a mental health facility due to her angry fascistic outbursts.

The actress and comedienne, as well as a host on the women’s gabfest “The View“ has been having a difficult time reconciling a midlife crisis worsened by her uncontrollable hatred for President Donald Trump.

Rosie has been relatively quiet lately but what better occasion for that pus-filled cyst on the ass of America to erupt than on the anniversary of Trump’s inauguration; an event that she begged Obama to declare martial law to prevent.

O’Donnell’s latest target?

That would be CNN’s wretched Chris Cuomo who wasn’t enough of a prick during his interview with Kellyanne Conway who embarrassed himself with his griping about Trump’s tweet during this year’s ridiculous women’s march.

Rotund Rosie’s Twitter shit fit comes a day after she embarrassed herself with a tweet where she seemed to disparage Democrat Senator Patty Murray which earned her a swift rebuke from feminists.

Via The Hill “Rosie O’Donnell rips CNN’s Cuomo over Conway interview: ‘DO UR JOB DAMN IT’”:

Actress Rosie O’Donnell attacked CNN anchor Chris Cuomo on Twitter Tuesday morning for his interview with White House adviser Kellyanne Conway, saying the CNN host needs to do more to keep dishonest people off the air.

In a tweet responding to Cuomo calling the two “friends,” the actress implored Cuomo to “DO UR DAMN JOB” and refuse to book Trump administration officials such as Conway in the future.

The ongoing Hollyweird meltdown is unhealthy for those who have now wasted an entire year of their lives being eaten alive by anger which is a prescription for future problems both physical and mental.

It is really only a matter of time until these pampered, privileged and psychotic celebs will force the American Psychiatric Association to have no choice but to recognize Trump Derangement Syndrome as an illness that is very real and it is a progressive malady judging by rabid Rosie’s increasingly demented ravings.

Here is the entire interview that triggered Rosie:

Scientists: Cleaning Up Air Pollution May Cause MORE Global Warming

You just can’t win when it comes to that permanently imminent threat of cataclysmic global warming. A group of scientists has produced yet another alarming report that appears to throw a wrench into plans to save the planet: NOT polluting may make the soon-to-be-sweltering climate even more sweltering. Well, sort of.

The new study is featured by Scientific American, which informs us that “cleaning up air pollution may strengthen global warming.” While that might sound like it directly contradicts current climate change premises, the study’s authors maintain that some air pollutants, particularly aerosol emissions, are actually helping to keep the temperatures down by as much as 1.1 degree Celsius.

“That means efforts worldwide to clean up the air may cause an increase in warming, as well as other climate effects, as this pollution disappears,” Scientific American concludes. If the pollutants really are masking the real warming by the 0.5 to 1.1 degree Celsius the study estimates, then the planet is already in “dangerous territory.”

The report notes that the production of aerosols is linked to many activities that produce C02 emissions; however, there’s not a one-to-one correspondence between the two.

The study, published in the Geophysical Research Letters journal, notes that the countries that will be most negatively impacted will be places that currently produce high levels of air pollutants, like East Asia.

While the new study presents a grim picture of future global warming, another recent climate change study tamped down some of the worst-case scenarios presented by the U.N. So at least we’ve got that working for us, theoretically . . .

A new study by a team of climatologists “all but rules out” the worst-case “doomsday” U.N. climate change scenarios, significantly narrowing the range of the possible temperature increases, while also eliminating the low-end predictions. The study’s findings, said one leading expert, are “reassuring,” though scientists still warn that potentially “significant” changes are coming.

“Our study all but rules out very low and very high climate sensitivities,” University of Exeter’s Peter Cox, the study’s lead author, said.

The U.N.’s worst-case predictions of an increase of 4.5 degrees Celsius by 2100 are almost certainly too high, Cox and his colleagues found. Rather than the widely variable range of 1.5 – 4.5 ºC (2.7 – 8.1 ºF) promoted by the U.N.’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the new study predicts much narrower change ranges of 2.2 – 3.4 ºC (4 – 6.1 ºF). The study’s best estimate is that global temperatures will change by 2.8 ºC (5 ºF) by 2100.

But remember, the science is settled.

SICK: Activist Uses Photo Of Disabled Girl To Promote Eugenic Abortions. The Girl’s Mother Fights Back.

An advocate for children with disabilities and complex medical needs fought back when a left-wing activist used her disabled daughter’s photo to promote eugenic abortions.

Natalie Weaver, who co-founded Advocates for Medically Fragile Kids NC, expressed outrage over the vile post featuring her 9-year-old daughter Sophia and urged Twitter to remove it from their site. Sophia was born with Rhett syndrome and has a facial deformity.

The account using Sophia’s photo to promote abortion, @OBSIDIANSMOAK, has since been suspended.

“It is ok to think that every child matters however a lot of them do not hence the amnio test which should be a mandatory test and if it proves negative and the woman does not want to abort then all bills accrued after that is on her and the father,” said the activist’s post.

Twitter has notoriously unclear standards when it comes to censorship, and recent undercover videos from James O’Keefe’s Project Veritas demonstrate bias against conservatives and conservative causes. The company, which has expelled many on the right in recent months, reportedly refused to take down the post featuring Sophia after initial complains from Weaver.

“Just received an email that Twitter doesn’t think a person using my child’s image as the poster child to ABORT & to weed out all the ‘defectives’ in utero is a violation. Why? Bc they won’t recognize hate toward ppl w/ disabilities in their regulations/reports,” Weaver posted in a tweet, on Monday.

“I would like twitter to also add ‘hate towards people with disabilities’ to their violation reporting categories,” she added.

Later in the day, Twitter suspended the abortion activist’s account.

The “Party of Diversity” has been on a quest to fulfill Planned Parenthood founder Margaret Sanger’s dream, activating to stop all pro-life legislation which aims to protect children with disabilities from fatal discrimination via abortion.

“According to the most recent data available, the United States has an estimated termination rate for Down syndrome of 67 percent (1995-2011); in France it’s 77 percent (2015); and Denmark, 98 percent (2015),” reports CBS News. As noted by Life News, “Iceland now has a nearly 100-percent abortion rate for unborn babies who test positive for Down syndrome.”

No deal: Schumer yanks offer of funding for border wall

C’mon, did anyone expect otherwise? Knowing that he was going to get clubbed by liberals for caving on the shutdown, the least Schumer could do to save a little face and soothe the progressive id would be to tear up the offer he made to Trump last Friday to carve out a few billion for the wall. Democrats just got thwarted on a DREAM amnesty; at a minimum, Schumer’s now obliged to thwart Trump on his big ask too.

Besides, leaving money for the wall on the table as a new round of negotiations begins would have been terrible bargaining strategy. Republicans would have treated that as Schumer’s baseline offer and sought to build on it by demanding additional concessions. With wall funding momentarily off limits, Schumer can “reset” the terms and force them to make some concessions of their own to entice him to put it back in the mix.

The Senate minority leader, through an aide, informed the White House on Monday that he was retracting the offer he made last week to give Trump well north of the $1.6 billion in wall funding Trump had asked for this year, according to two Democrats. And now they say Trump will simply not get a better deal than that on his signature campaign promise.

Schumer “took it off,” said Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), the No. 2 Senate Democrat. “He called the White House yesterday and said it’s over.”

In the now-infamous cheeseburger summit last Friday with Trump, Schumer offered a large increase in border wall spending as a condition for a broader deal to help Dreamers. But after that offer was rebuffed — prompting the three-day government shutdown — the president has now “missed an opportunity to get the wall,” one Democratic aide said.

Meh, it’s a bluff. If a DREAM amnesty happens, funding for the wall will be the absolute minimum that the GOP demands in return. In fact, House Republicans are busy today trying to force a “reset” of Republican demands as well: The Republican Study Committee, a conservative caucus with more than 150 members, announced this morning that it’ll back Bob Goodlatte’s bill, which reads like a border-hawk wishlist — E-Verify, cuts to legal immigration, a crackdown on sanctuary cities, you name it. The chances that Democrats will agree to that are zero; in fact, the chances that *Senate Republicans* will agree to it are practically zero as well, since all it would take is Lindsey Graham, Jeff Flake, and one other immigration squish to vote in opposition to kill it even without a filibuster. But the RSC wants a vote on the bill in the House, where it’s likely to pass.

The glass-half-full view of that is that passage would maximize border hawks’ leverage in the next round of negotiations with Democrats by setting a baseline of robust enforcement. The glass-half-empty view is that passage would be destined to sink any bipartisan deals, even with Trump’s approval, because a compromise bill will pale by comparison. The Goodlatte bill will essentially operate as a reminder to populists of all the things Trump *could* be demanding, but isn’t, to tighten America’s borders when he starts negotiating with Schumer again. That’ll make life hard for him and McConnell.

As for Schumer, dopey progressives who refuse to grasp how little leverage he had in the shutdown standoff are planning to protest — at his home in New York City:

A trio of progressive organizations, including CREDO, is hosting an event on Tuesday night that will bring activists to the front lawn of Schumer’s home in Brooklyn. They are also in the process of printing signs for the event which read “Worst negotiator in Washington. And Brooklyn. #SchumerSellout,” superimposed on an image of the Minority Leader’s face.

“What we see strategically is that the fish rots from the top,” said Murshed Zaheed, political director and vice president of CREDO…

“We’re targeting Dems who voted for this CR (continuing resolution),” Angel Padilla, policy director for Indivisible, a resistance organization formed in response to Trump’s presidency, told The Daily Beast. “They sold out Dreamers. They failed to stand up to Trump’s white supremacy. They had the support of the grassroots and they caved. It also demonstrates that Democrats remain terrified of immigration. And they will continue to run from it.”

Thought experiment: Would the shutdown standoff have played out the same way if it were January 2020 instead of January 2018? The Senate map looks great for Democrats two years from now, with GOP incumbents forced to play defense in various purplish states. This year, though, it’s the opposite: With a few exceptions like Nevada and Arizona, most of the key races are being fought over Democrat-held seats in states won by Trump. Liberals shrieking about Schumer’s sellout are cutting him no slack for making a prudent move in ending the shutdown early: Knowing that Democrats have momentum in the polls, knowing that public reaction to shutdowns is unpredictable (especially in red states), he decided to take a knee and preserve the party’s lead rather than throw downfield by forcing a protracted shutdown over DREAM. He’s worried about those red-state Dems — and even if he wasn’t, those red-state Dems are worried enough about themselves that there was no guarantee they would have hung with Schumer day after day as a shutdown played out.

If McCaskill and Tester and Heitkamp and Donnelly, etc etc, ended up crossing the aisle and voting with Republicans to fund the government, progressives might have stupidly blamed them instead of Schumer, a potential disaster in November given how close their races are likely to be. Instead Schumer, whose own seat in New York is safe, became the lightning rod for liberal discontent. He failed, but at least he minimized the damage to his own caucus in doing so. For the moment.

SHADOW GOVERNMENT UPDATE=> DOJ Refuses to Release Dirty Cop Robert Mueller’s Budget Proposal

SHADOW GOVERNMENT UPDATE=> DOJ Refuses to Release Dirty Cop Robert Mueller’s Budget Proposal

The Justice Department refuses to release Robert Mueller’s budget proposal for the Special Counsel office, Judicial Watch announced on Tuesday.

Judicial Watch sought the information through a FOIA lawsuit, however; the watchdog group is being told the material is being withheld because it is protected from disclosure under the FOIA.

Via Judicial Watch:

Judicial Watch sought “the copy of the budget prepared or submitted” by Special Counsel Robert Mueller. But, on Friday, January 19, the Justice Department notified Judicial Watch that it refuses to turn over documents, stating: “seven pages were located that contain records responsive to your … request. We have determined that this material should be withheld in full because it is protected from disclosure under the FOIA.” The Justice Department asserts the Mueller budget information cannot be released because its release could interfere with “law enforcement proceedings” and the material is protected from disclosure by the “deliberative process privilege.”

Judicial Watch filed a FOIA lawsuit against the DOJ on October 5, 2017, after it failed to respond to a July 10, 2017, request (Judicial Watch v. U.S. Department of Justice (No. 1:17-cv-02079)). Judicial Watch is seeking:

  • A copy of the budget prepared and submitted by Robert S. Mueller III or his staff….
  • A copy of all guidance memoranda and communications by which the Justice Management Division will review the Special Counsel’s Office’s “Statement of Expenditures”…
  • A copy of each document scoping, regulating, or governing the Special Counsel’s Office appointed under the leadership of Mueller III…

The Justice Department has thus far ignored Judicial Watch’s requests for documents about its management of the Mueller operation.

The Justice Department released a report in early December detailing the cost of Mueller’s investigation from May 17th 2017-Sept 30th 2017.

The Mueller ‘Russia’ investigation was built on a foundation of lies and cost taxpayers $6.7 million within the first 5 months!

That’s nearly $1 million a month.

President of Judicial Watch Tom Fitton had this to say about ‘King Mueller’s’ massive investigation:

“Special Counsel Mueller’s operation is not above the law. The American people have a right to know how much taxpayer money is planned for his massive investigation. No one else in DC seems to be providing oversight of the Mueller operation, so once again it is up to the citizen’s group Judicial Watch to fight for accountability.”

WaPo: Liberal media on full blast over Chuck’s Buckle

Talk about miscalculations. Democrats went into the shutdown on Friday confident that the major media outlets would dutifully blame it on Republicans. When that didn’t work out, Chuck Schumer & Co must have figured that they would spin the retreat as a tactical advantage for Democrats. As Allahpundit pointed out this morning, that … didn’t work out so well.

But what about the progressive partisan media outlets that are ever-ready to backstop Democratic hardball? The Washington Post’s Callum Borchers puts his tongue firmly in cheek as he reviews all the helpful spin coming Schumer’s way on Chuck’s Buckle:

Democrats failed to secure long-term protection for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals recipients in a bill that reopened the federal government Monday. Good thing Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer (D-N.Y.) and company have the liberal media to spin the deal as a win, with helpful headlines like these:

It’s getting ugly out there for a Democrat looking for political cover. Of these examples, the New Yorker offered perhaps the least judgmental view of the fallout, but still concludes that Schumer caved without getting anything in return:

Almost immediately, the Republicans (with glee) and the progressive left (with outrage) insisted that Schumer had “blinked” or “caved.” “That’s what they do,” the progressive Democratic congressman Luis Gutiérrez said, of the Senate Democrats. The White House press secretary, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, said, “We are pleased to see Senator Schumer accept the deal that President Trump put on the table at the beginning.” That overstated the White House’s role, but got the state of play right. Schumer had discovered the limits of his party’s influence and power.

This afternoon, the prospects for the Dreamers look worse: the immediate crisis of the shutdown has passed, the President no longer seems a plausible ally, and their status has not been secured. Republicans privately griped for the past week about the inconstancy of the White House, but this morning it was Schumer who was left complaining about the Presidential chaos. The Dreamers’ hopes, and his, had rested on a version of the President that did not materialize.

The Mother Jones analysis hints at a bigger problem for Democrats:

“Democrats caved on September 5th, they caved again on December 8th, they caved on December 22nd, and now they just caved again,” he said, pointing out that Democrats have now repeatedly agreed to short-term funding measures that don’t protect Dreamers. “Their promise is they’re really going to fight hard next time. It’s totally unbelievable. The idea that they are gonna take a pinky-swear promise from Sen. McConnell after he’s broken so many promises before is political malpractice—it’s absurd to believe that. The only answer is that [they] aren’t actually interested in fighting for the Dreamers.”

The end of the shutdown, weeks away from the beginning of primary season and a special congressional election in Pennsylvania, could have ripple effects at the grassroots level. Levin relayed a conversation he’d had over the weekend with the leader of an Indivisible chapter in a hotly contested House district. “I was wondering, ‘What am I actually knocking on doors for if they just kept on caving?’” she told him. “‘But then when they actually stood and fought on the [funding bill], it made me want to fight a lot harder.’”

“What they’ve done is taken away some of that energy,” Levin said.

Having discovered the limit of their power, Democrats will be loath to pull another shutdown stunt. And having discovered the power of demoralization on this issue, Republicans might be loath to pass a legislative version of DACA — at least not without a ton of concessions on border-wall funding and ending chain migration. The shutdown has left Democrats not just in a status quo ante position, but in a much worse bargaining position than before.

That was the predictable outcome of a shutdown strategy, especially over a non-budgetary issue. In my column for The Week, I remind readers that Republicans learned this lesson relatively cost-free in 2013, but that both parties should know now to pull that page out of their playbooks for good:

For the second time in a little over four years, the minority party in the Senate managed to grind the federal government to a halt. And for the second time in a little over four years, the minority party in the Senate has conceded an embarrassing defeat, having won nothing for its trouble.

When Republicans shuttered the government over Ted Cruz’s quixotic ObamaCare defunding effort in 2013, the party got nothing but egg on its face. The same is true today with regard to Democrats’ puzzling shutdown standoff over immigration. …

The lesson here is that voters don’t like having their government held hostage, especially for non-budgetary reasons. Most voters don’t immerse themselves in politics and its tribalist tendencies. They expect government to function properly where it’s necessary, to stay out of their lives where it’s not, and for elected officials to do their jobs. Government shutdowns over issues unrelated to the budget violate all of those expectations.

Now that both parties have humiliated themselves over this tactic, perhaps leaders in both parties will rip that page out of their playbooks.

If they do, at least something positive will have emerged from Chuck’s Buckle.

IDIOTS: NFL Bars Veterans Group From Running Super Bowl Ad Urging Fans To Stand For Anthem

On Tuesday, the veterans group AMVETS announced that the NFL had rejected their $30,000 ad, to be placed in their Super Bowl LII programs, featuring American soldiers carrying the flag, with the hashtag #PleaseStand. The hashtag obviously referred to the controversial practice by many NFL players of kneeling for the anthem to protest alleged police racism and brutality. “The NFL said it does not want to take a position on that,” said Joe Chenelly, national director of AMVETS. “Really, by not letting us run an ad, we think they are taking a position.”

The NFL’s Vice President of Communications Brian McCarthy said that the Super Bowl wasn’t the time for politicking:

The Super Bowl game program is designed for fans to commemorate and celebrate the game, players, teams and the Super Bowl. It’s never been a place for advertising that could be considered by some as a political statement. The NFL has long supported the military and veterans and will again salute our service members in the Super Bowl with memorable on-field moments that will be televised as part of the game.

But it’s obviously untrue that the NFL hasn’t taken a stance on kneeling. They were fine with running an ad that stated “Please Honor Our Veterans” or “Please Stand for Our Veterans.” They just didn’t want anyone suggesting that Americans ought to stand for the American flag or American national anthem.

Stupidity like this is one of the reasons the NFL has been losing popularity. They’ve routinely engaged in politics at the Super Bowl – just two years ago, Beyonce performed at the Super Bowl in a Black Panther outfit, with her backup dancers holding up raised fists. Lady Gaga performed at the 2017 Super Bowl, and kept her performance relatively apolitical – but that’s not to say that the NFL would have done anything had she not. The NFL’s decision not to tell players to stand for the anthem or stay in the locker room was obviously political, too.

But when it comes to veterans standing for the flag and encouraging others to do so, too, that’s where the NFL draws the line.

All of which suggests that the leadership of the NFL needs to take better stock of its fan base. The NFL’s fan base is evenly spit between Republicans and Democrats – and Americans generally have evidenced little enthusiasm for the kneeling. As of October 2016, the leading reason cited by those who tuned out of the NFL for tuning out was furor over the anthem.

This shouldn’t have been a difficult call from the NFL. If they wanted an ad on the other side, they surely could have taken one. But they didn’t. And so the NFL, by chickening out, continues to diminish its own popularity.
