Defense Secretary Jim Mattis recently spoke out in favor of the Iran protests, stating that the United States does not have any issues with the Iranian people, only with the regime.
“I think it’s very important that we stand up and say that we understand the Iranian people. Our beef, if we have one, is not with the Iranian people. It is specifically the same regime that the Iranian people, clearly, are fed up with as well,” Mattis told reporters Friday.
The Trump administration has broken from the previous administration’s stance that weighing in on protests would allow Iran’s leaders to paint them as a Western-led movement. President Barack Obama’s hands-off approach during the 2009 Green Revolution in Iran was widely criticized by Iran critics as a missed opportunity.
Trump has tweeted his support for the protesters, which have been primarily blue-collar workers frustrated with the regime’s spending on military engagements in Syria and Yemen and cutting subsidies for its citizens.
Protesters have been chanting “death to Rouhani,” referring to Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, and “death to the dictator,” referring to Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Mattis emphasized that although the U.S. supported the protests, it was up to the Iranian people to decide what kind of government they want.
“So the most important thing, I think, is it’s up to the Iranian people what form of government they have, and to say we believe that they should have the kind of government they want, and, right now, the regime senses that they’ve got a lot of people who aren’t buying this revolutionary regime’s act,” he said.
“Clearly the Iranian people aren’t buying this revolution or export of their terrorism, or whatever the revolutionary regime people want to call it. They’re not buying it there at home. We’re not buying it internationally,” he added.
At least 20 have been reported killed and several thousands arrested during the protests.
On Friday, the Trump administration announced it would waive sanctions, per the nuclear deal, but warned European countries that it would scrap the deal if they do not help strengthen it.

Videos have surfaced of Iranian parents protesting outside of Iran’s Evin Prison, some setting up encampments and confronting police, in defense of individuals arrested for protesting in the past two weeks.
A man in the video above can be heard saying, in Farsi, “Parents have set up tents and are waiting to find out what the fate of their children will be.”
Despite the Islamic regime’s attempts to stifle and shut down the people’s uprising and calls for freedom by shutting down access to crucial social media platforms used by Iranians to communicate, like Telegram and Instagram, platforms like Twitter are being used to push the truth and keep the momentum going.
On Wednesday, security forces and protesters—including parents of detained protesters—reportedly clashed outside Evin prison indicating the end of these protests is far from over.
Radio Free Europe reported, “Among the protesters are parents whose children have been detained following the government’s crackdown on antigovernment protests. Some parents have been protesting for days and have erected tents outside the prison.”
Similarly, the National Council of Resistance for Iran (NCRI)—a dissident group active around the world—noted on its website:
On the 30th day of the nationwide uprising on Sunday, more than 150 members of families of those detained during the uprising gathered outside Tehran’s notorious Evin prison to protest against the ongoing detention of their children and relatives. Some 100 other family members of the detainees also protested outside the clerical regime’s Revolutionary Court in Moalem Street, Tehran.
So far, the mainstream media is reporting that there are at least 22 deaths. However, according to the Iranian opposition, 50 people have died since protests began on December 28; that number is expected to rise.
According to Al Arabiya—based in Iran’s Sunni regional rival Saudi Arabia—reports from inside Iran and from within the regime suggest at least 8,000 people have been detained so far. A 23-year-old student protester arrested and taken into custody during the Iranian uprising reportedly died while in custody at Evin Prison last Sunday. Iranian authorities claim that Sina Ghanbari committed suicide.
On Friday, President Donald Trump announced that the United States will stay in the Iran nuclear deal but that the Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) has designated 14 individuals and entities, including some from China, in connection with serious human rights abuses and censorship in Iran.
“The United States will not stand by while the Iranian regime continues to engage in human rights abuses and injustice,” Treasury Secretary Steven T. Mnuchin said. “We are targeting the Iranian regime, including the head of Iran’s judiciary, for its appalling mistreatment of its citizens, including those imprisoned solely for exercising their right to freedom of peaceful assembly, and for censoring its own people as they stand up in protest against their government.”

Port-au-Prince is about the size of Chicago. But it doesn’t have a sewer system. It’s one of the largest cities in the world without one.
That’s a big problem, but never more so than during a time of cholera.
Since cholera was introduced into Haiti 18 months ago — most likely by United Nations peacekeeping troops from Nepal, where the disease is endemic — more than a half-million people have gotten sick and at least 7,050 have died.
Public health authorities say cholera will stay in the environment for a long time, because Haiti has the worst sanitation in this hemisphere.
It’s hard for Americans to imagine what this means.
The cumulative sewage of 3 million people flows through open ditches. It mixes with ubiquitous piles of garbage. Each night, an all-but-invisible army of workers called bayakou descend into man-sized holes with buckets to remove human waste from septic pits and latrines, then dump it into the canals that cut through the city.
Haitian citizens walk through the flooded streets of Port-au-Prince, Haiti, Nov. 6, after Hurricane Tomas hit the country. Marines with Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 774 flew CH-46E Sea Knight helicopters over Haitian soil to assess the aftermath of the hurricane in preparation for tentative disaster relief efforts to the region in support of the government of Haiti, MINUSTAH and USAID. Marines and sailors embarked aboard USS Iwo Jima attached to Special-Purpose Marine Air-Ground Task Force concluded humanitarian operations in Paramaribo, Suriname, Nov. 1, for Haiti relief efforts.

An 11-count indictment was handed out on Friday connected to the alleged Russian bribery scheme involving former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, the Obama administration, and Uranium One.
The charges are against Mark Lambert, who is the “former co-president of a Maryland-based transportation company that provides services for the transportation of nuclear materials to customers in the United States and abroad.” Lambert 54, of Maryland, was charged with “one count of conspiracy to violate the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) and to commit wire fraud, seven counts of violating the FCPA, two counts of wire fraud and one count of international promotion money laundering,” the DOJ said in a statement.
The charges are connected to the alleged bribery scheme that involves “Vadim Mikerin, a Russian official at JSC Techsnabexport (TENEX), a subsidiary of Russia’s State Atomic Energy Corporation and the sole supplier and exporter of Russian Federation uranium and uranium enrichment services to nuclear power companies worldwide, in order to secure contracts with TENEX.”
It’s been a really tough week for the defenders of the status quo when it comes to those who are in this country illegally.
Not only is DACA on thin ice and Democrats refusing to negotiate with President Trump on making concessions to crack down on illegal aliens, but the great “shithole” shitstorm has reached category five wind speeds.
Another bug up the asses of bleeding heart liberals who think that it’s wonderful to have millions of illegals leeching off of the American taxpayers and driving down wages is that agents for Immigration and Customs Enforcement launched a high-profile series of raids at 7-Eleven stores nationwide as a part of an effort to crack down on those hiring illegals.
The left’s rhetoric has been overheated and irresponsible and this is especially the case with National Public Radio host Maria Hinojosa who outrageously compared the dedicated federal employees of ICE to the murderous goons of Adolf Hitler’s Gestapo.
Ms. Hinojosa made her outrageous claims while appearing on DNC propaganda network MSNBC.
WATCH: NPR’s Maria Hinojosa compared immigration police to Nazis who hunted the Jews. https://t.co/q31LJG3TD4
Maria Hinojosa, an NPR host who covers Latino issues for the publicly-funded station, compared officers for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to agents of the Gestapo, Nazi Germany’s secret police, in an appearance on MSNBC on Friday.
At first criticizing President Trump for his offensive comments about immigrants in the Oval Office on Thursday, Hinojosa pivoted to immigration enforcement as a whole.
“When the president says this, basically, ‘Take them out,’ that is what the community is saying, ‘This is fearful for us. This is the Gestapo on us,’” she told MSNBC’s Ali Velshi. “The troops on the ground of ICE, they’re ready to swing into action.”
Velshi took issue with her comparison of ICE agents to the Gestapo: “I understand the fears that people feel. Of course, I want to separate the idea that ICE agents are like Gestapo.”
Hinojosa interrupted him, standing by her characterization.
“It is very painful to have to say these things, but the things that are happening – people are being asked for their citizenship when they’re getting on buses in upstate New York,” she responded. “Agents are getting on trains and going through the train and spotting people and saying, ‘What is your citizenship?’”
Hinojosa described the comparison between ICE and Gestapo as “horrible” but implied it was necessary and accurate. “Horrible things being said right now is part of the United States, 2018,” she added.

The last time I looked, ICE wasn’t stuffing people into cattle cars and hauling them off to the gas showers and crematories. This has to be one of the most outlandish comments of the day and it trivializes the atrocities that were suffered by European Jews during the Nazi reign of terror.
Where in the hell are the SPLC and Anti-Defamation League on this?
More importantly, where is NPR for allowing a virulently racist clown like Hinojosa continue to collect a paycheck, especially since her employer is at least partially funded by American taxpayers – including Jews who she just insulted by trivializing the Holocaust.
The double-standard is overwhelming, the real “shithole” is this bitch’s mouth and the taxpayers shouldn’t be subsidizing this dishonest and despicable filth that is not only racist and anti-Semitic but also trashes the character of public servants who have a tough enough job already without liberals creating a dangerous environment filled with hate for them. .

Very few people know this, but one of the most famous Soviet officials in Russian history originally learned of the many advantages of capitalism at a regular ol’ Randalls grocery store nearly three decades ago.
In 1989, then-Communist Party of the Soviet Union member Boris Yeltsin traveled to the United States to visit the Johnson Space Center in Texas, according to the Houston Chronicle.
While in Houston for the visit, he also stopped by a Randalls grocery store, where he “roamed the aisles of Randall’s nodding his head in amazement,” according to an account of the visit written by then-Chronicle reporter Stefanie Asin.
He further told his fellow comrades who followed him to America for the visit that if the lines of starving men, women and children in Russia were to see the conditions of America’s supermarkets, “there would be a revolution.”
In photos of the visit reportedly taken by the Chronicle, Yeltsin could be seen “marveling at the produce section, the fresh fish market, and the checkout counter. He looked especially excited about frozen pudding pops.”
“Even the Politburo doesn’t have this choice. Not even Mr. Gorbachev,” he himself reportedly said, referring to the then-president of the Soviet Union.
Even after Yeltsin left Houston, he still remained transfixed by the luxuries we as Americans have always considered normal.
“For a long time, on the plane to Miami, he sat motionless, his head in his hands,” wrote biography Leon Aron in his 2000 book, “Yeltsin, A Revolutionary Life,” basing his account on quotes from Yeltsin’s associates, according to The New York Times.
“‘What have they done to our poor people?’ he said after a long silence. On his return to Moscow, Yeltsin would confess the pain he had felt after the Houston excursion: the ‘pain for all of us, for our country so rich, so talented and so exhausted by incessant experiments.’”
Yeltsin reportedly admitted to these thoughts in his own autobiography, writing, “When I saw those shelves crammed with hundreds, thousands of cans, cartons and goods of every possible sort, for the first time I felt quite frankly sick with despair for the Soviet people.”
“That such a potentially super-rich country as ours has been brought to a state of such poverty! It is terrible to think of it.”
Two years later, he reportedly left the Communist Party and “began making reforms to turn the economic tide in Russia,” according to the Chronicle.
Here’s how the Times describes Yeltsin’s accomplishments: “He broke up the Soviet Union. He laid the Communist Party low, removing the bottom brick from the one-party Soviet system. He upended the centralized Soviet economy that had impoverished his country, and he crushed the putsch that threatened to return the country to the old system.”
He paved the way for Russia to become a capitalist/democratic society devoid of the food shortages and scarcity of the past.
And all this because of a typical, everyday American grocery store. Go figure!

While many in the liberal media like to act morally superior — particularly when it comes to President Donald Trump — a top MSNBC liberal has been exposed for joking about drugging and raping former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
According to a newly released video from The Cut, MSNBC “Hardball” host Chris Matthews was caught on camera last year joking about raping then-Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.
The joke was reportedly said on Jan. 5, 2016, when Matthews and his crew were setting up in an Iowa fire station during the Democratic primaries before an interview with Clinton.
The footage begins with Matthews asking, “Can I have some of the queen’s waters? Precious waters?”
“Where’s that Bill Cosby pill I brought with me?” he continued.
Watch the clip below, where the liberal host thinks it’s humorous to joke about raping Clinton.
Matthews’ comments were in reference to pills former actor and comedian Bill Cosby gave to several women to allegedly rape them.
The explosive video of Matthews making a joke about rape follows another recent report that Matthews paid off a former producer to drop her sexual harassment complaint against him.
Do you think Chris Matthews should be fired for his disturbing comments?
As noted by The Daily Wire, thousands of dollars were paid to an assistant producer on MSNBC’s “Hardball with Chris Matthews” in 1999 after she filed a sexual harassment complaint against Matthews.
The woman claimed Matthews made several inappropriate jokes and comments about her while they were around other colleagues, resulting in her being degraded in front of her superiors.
Other reports have also revealed that Matthews runs an abusive work environment, where his employees are subjected to verbal abuse and inappropriate actions from the longtime MSNBC host.
While many liberals claim that Republicans and Trump are sexist, we have actual proof of Matthews – a top liberal media figure – displaying a slew of inappropriate behavior.
Whether it was paying off a former producer so she would withdraw her sexual harassment complaint or joking on camera about drugging and raping someone, the moral high-ground these liberals pretend to have is laughable.
Just imagine how the left would react if a host at Fox News said the exact same thing as Matthews.

The results of participation trophies and banning games such as dodgeball in schools. The social justice warriors are counting on the transgender recruits being physically and mentally fit.
The Army’s problem of finding physically fit recruits at a time of rising obesity in the United States is especially acute in the South — where it traditionally draws a high percentage of soldiers, a study published Wednesday finds.
Army recruits from Southern states are generally in poorer physical condition than those from other parts of the country, concluded researchers at The Citadel, a military college in Charleston, S.C.
“This has a real impact on national security,” said Daniel Bornstein, a researcher who led the study.
The regional distinction also suggests that government policy can influence fitness, and the South may be falling behind the rest of the country. “Some of the greatest public health achievements have come as the result of state-level policy change,” the study found.
Eleven states — Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and West Virginia — had among the highest rates of recruits who become injured during basic training.
The results reflect trends in the nation where Southern states generally have higher obesity rates. Adult obesity is 35% or higher in Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi and West Virginia, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Lack of physical fitness and obesity contribute to a higher injury rate among soldiers in basic training. Each recruit lost to attrition costs the government $31,000, according to the study.
The study examined recruits who entered the Army between 2010 and 2013 and looked at initial physical tests, including timed runs, and injury rates after recruits get to basic training.
The struggle to find physically fit recruits is not new for the Army. Even during World War II only about 50% of young people were qualified to join. Today, the percentage has dropped to 23%.
That number also includes those not qualified because of other factors, such as a criminal record or lack of a high school diploma. But physical fitness remains a growing problem for the military.
A shocking video showing a starving Venezuelan mob beating a cow to death with stones has gone viral amid violent protests that have left four people dead.
Dozens of men shout ‘we are hungry’ and ‘people are suffering’ as they surround the cow in the field, throwing stones at it and beating it with a stick.
The helpless animal was slaughtered at the Hacienda Miraflores, in the fishing village of Palmarito in Merida, during a day deadly of civil unrest and looting in the state.
When the animal finally falls to the ground in the footage, more villagers gather around – presumably to begin the distribution of its meat.
According to local media, dozens of cows were killed by the crowds at several different ranches.
‘They’re hunting. The people are hungry!’ says the narrator of the video, who filmed the incident from his car.
Burlington Free Press editor Denis Finley fired over gender tweets
The story begins:
“Gannett has fired Burlington Free Press editor Denis Finley for violating the company’s social media policies after he issued a series of tweets criticizing Vermont’s proposal to add a third gender option to driver’s licenses.
Gannett leaders fired Mr. Finley on Monday after determining that he violated the company’s social media guidelines ‘on a number of occasions,’ the Free Press reported Monday evening.
The tweets that led to his termination started when a Twitter user said the proposal to add a third gender option to Vermont driver’s licenses was ‘awesome.’
‘Awesome! That makes us one step closer to the apocalypse,’ Mr. Finleyresponded Friday, The Washington Post reported.
After catching some heat for the tweet, he attempted to elaborate, writing, ‘The world isn’t coming to an end yet. I think it’s just falling apart, piece by piece.’
‘My issue is simply why is this awesome?’ he asked one user.”
The Washington Post ran the story this way:
Vermont newspaper editor fired after controversial tweets about gender
The Post begins its reporting this way:
“Vermont newspaper editor Denis Finley was fired from the Burlington Free Press on Monday night by Gannett, the paper’s parent company, for violating the company’s social media guidelines, the news outlet reported.
Finley had often spoken his mind on Twitter since becoming the newspaper’s editor in 2016, firing off a mixture of harsh opinions and jokes that many people often found offensive. But his series of tweets this month criticizing a proposal for Vermont to offer a third gender option on driver’s licenses went too far, the company said.
‘We encourage our journalists to engage in a meaningful dialogue on social media, but it’s important that the conversation adhere to our overarching values of fairness, balance and objectivity,’ Randy Lovely, a Gannett executive, told the Burlington Free Press after Finley’s ousting.”
Mind you, this latest example of crossing the leftist speech police comes after we learn that ex-Google employee James Damore is filing suit against his former employer for his audacity in diversity by expressing – gasp! – some conservative thoughts on the way the leftist-group think out there in Silicon Valley really works. Over at The Federalist Rachel Stoltzfoos has made her way through the paperwork and uncovers the distinctly totalitarian flavor of the Google mindset at work. Appropriately enough she adds a warning: “This article quotes communications that contain obscene language.” Here are some examples:
“The lawsuit James Damore filed against Google on Monday provides a fascinating glimpse into the way the company and many of its employees see the workplace in terms of a demographic hierarchy, and what happens to those who diverge from the consensus view.
Details from diversity training sessions, accounts of alleged reverse discrimination, and screenshots of internal communications on company forums and message boards in the lawsuit cast the company culture as extremely hostile to employees with unpopular opinions, especially heterosexuals, men, white people, and those who hold conservative views.
…In screenshots laid out in the lawsuit, “Googlers” as they call themselves, talk openly of blacklisting and purging the company of employees whose views or identities are deemed outside the bounds. Employees were allowed to award those who spoke out against Damore’s memo “peer bonuses” — a company kudos of sorts monitored by the “Google Recognition Team.”
…’We want to be inclusive of people not ideas’ one employee identified as Alon Altman wrote in a message included in the lawsuit. Damore says that sentiment was backed up at an Inclusion and Diversity Summit he attended in June, when he was told by Google employees the company does not value “viewpoint diversity,” but actively strives for ‘demographic diversity.’
…After a coworker leaked his memo to the public, Google’s human resources instructed Damore to work remotely for a while to let emotions cool, after he forwarded them a particularly angry email from another employee. “You’re a misogynist and a terrible person,” read a late-night email from Alex Hidalgo, a Google engineer. ‘I will keep hounding you until one of us is fired. Fuck you.’”
Which is to say, Google is insisting that, as with the old segregationists of the last century, their employees are to be judged by race and their thoughts and speech accordingly.
And yes, I will recall my own experience at CNN, where mocking a leftist media organization for being repeatedly flagged for anti-Semitism and its fascist-style insistence on removing conservative hosts and commentators from television and radio (Hannity in that case) got me fired.
Rush Limbaugh spoke on Friday of his own experience with this kind of thing as he discussed James O’Keefe’s Project Veritas and O’Keefe’s latest findings on how Twitter is run. In that case it was the “Stop Rush” campaign in which Rush’s advertisers were bullied. Rush recalled how the “Stop Rush” campaign worked.
Said Rush:
“….it was 10 people using algorithms and bots to make themselves appear to be tens of thousands who hated me. So it took us about six months to track this all down, and we did. And we were able to demonstrate to all of these advertisers that 90% of these complaint emails that they were getting were being sent from people who had never been their customers and didn’t even live in the state. We had to be able to show the advertisers and the sponsors and other associates this was all bogus. ‘Cause people don’t want to put up with this garbage.”
As he also pointed out, “they tried this on Hannity” and others.
There’s more out there, but these examples suffice. Over there at National Review, David French has taken his usual thoughtful look and headlines this:
James Damore’s Lawsuit Exposes Google’s Culture of Ignorant Intolerance
Social-justice warriors dominate a leading tech company.
French gets the larger problem on the spot, writing:
“Let’s ponder a disturbing question: What if the crisis of free speech on college campuses, with their often extreme intolerance for conservative points of view, represents the high point for free expression in a student’s life? In other words, what if the “real world” is more repressive, more ignorant, and more punitive toward dissenting speech? What if entire corporations adopt the ideologies and norms of the most ruthless campus social-justice warriors, ruining careers and depriving employees of their livelihoods when those employees dissent from the dominant ideology?
In other words, what if the rest of corporate America starts acting like Google?”
The cyber ink was barely dry on French’s piece when Gannett fired Denis Finley in precisely the manner French was discussing.
Newsflash? Somewhere this reign of totalitarian terror against free speech has got to stop. This is now way beyond what goes on at Gannett or Google or CNN or anywhere else where this anti-free speech, Stalinist-style behavior manifests itself. This is becoming a serious threat to a free press, free speech and free thought.
On Friday night, Fox’s Tucker Carlson had Denis Finley on his show, not for the first time making both his own show and Fox in general a beacon of support for free speech and a free press. Tucker pointed out that Finley’s sin seemed to be merely asking questions and he wondered why it was “out of bounds.” Finley, a long time journalist, noted that “a lot of media companies” say they believe in objectivity but will not tolerate any questioning of leftist orthodoxy. He was expected to “toe the line” with left wing orthodoxy.
Asked Tucker: “Do you see this as a trend? I’ve begun to notice where big companies have become the heavies for the cultural left. You think of big companies as conservative but all of a sudden they’re the ones enforcing orthodoxies. Is that my imagination?”
To which Finley replied: “No, I don’t think it is. I think big companies, a lot of big media companies are more or less encouraging the left…I don’t think they’re objective. I don’t believe that they want debate. I think that they want us to conform. And conform to the prevailing ideology that’s out there. And the prevailing ideology that’s out there is leftist. And when the leftists take you on, they’re big in numbers and people are afraid to say anything against them. So they often win.”
Exactly. And even if they are not “big in numbers” – as Rush precisely demonstrated – they can frighten others into thinking they are.
Not to put too fine a point on this but this stuff is terrifyingly dangerous. It is at once racist, as the Damore Google lawsuit illustrates, and totalitarian at its core.
The question now is: what to do about it?
And more than conservatives should be charged with finding the answer.
