Teachers Union President Attacks DeVos: ‘In Her Heart, She Doesn’t Care About Children’

American Federation of Teachers president Randi Weingarten attacked Betsy DeVos in recent remarks, questioning the secretary of education’s motives and saying she "demonizes" and "demagogues" teachers unions.

"In her heart, [DeVos] doesn’t care about children," Weingarten said. "She is an adversary. She demonizes us, she demagogues us, but she does it while smiling. That’s part of why I find her so dislikeable — don’t smile at somebody and then put a knife in their back. That’s what she’s doing."

Weingarten’s comments emerged in a Buzzfeed News report this week about a division among Democrats on the issue of charter schools and school choice. Unions and advocacy groups who oppose charter schools believe the next two years could be a "tipping point" for their cause, according to Buzzfeed. They plan to push candidates to come out against charter schools and the expansion private school vouchers despite the fact many Democrats have supported the measures in the past.

Teachers unions have stood in opposition to DeVos since she was announced as President Donald Trump’s choice to lead the department. Many union activists oppose DeVos’ efforts to deteriorate a "big government approach" to education and to ultimately give states and local school districts regulator power.

In May 2017, Devos told the American Federation for Children that "When it comes to education, no solution, not even ones we like, should be dictated or run from Washington, D.C."

"We should have zero interest in substituting the current big government approach for our own big-government approach," Devos said. "When it comes to education, no solution, not even ones we like, should be dictated or run from Washington, D.C."

A school choice advocacy group official indicated the stark opposition to the programs has been driven by opposition to the Trump administration.

"The president is so wildly unpopular among Democrats that his support for some of these policies — which we’ve been working on for literally decades — had made the politics of supporting school choice much harder than it needs to be," said Derrell Bradford, the vice president of 50Can. "The politics of it are unfortunate."

Weingarten blamed the administration for the "fierce" feelings that have manifested about public education.

Trump and DeVos "have made the choices very stark," Weingarten said. "They’ve made this a ‘whose side are you on’ moment for us. The public has never been so fierce about public education — I have not seen this in decades."

Former Democratic Presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton are both advocates for charter schools and school choice.

USA Today reports: The United States plans to move its embassy in Israel to Jerusalem on May 14, Steven Goldstein, undersecretary of State for public diplomacy said Friday.

The date coincides with when Israel proclaimed independence in 1948.  Secretary of State Rex Tillerson approved a security plan for “a facility” in Jerusalem Thursday evening, Goldstein said. “We’re looking at that as a possible date but safety of the Marines and other people who visit and work there is primary.”

The embassy will be located in a building that houses the U.S. Consulate General Jerusalem, in the Arnona neighborhood of the city, according a State Department statement. Consular operations will continue there, and U.S. ambassador to Israel, David Friedman, will work there with a small staff.

According to a transcript obtained by the Wall Street Journal, the FBI tip-line caller warned Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School gunman Nikolas Cruz was “going to explode.” The caller also noted Cruz dressed up “as a ninja or an ISIS fighter.”

Partial transcript via WSJ:

“You know, it’s just so much,” she said on the call. “I know he’s—he’s going to explode.” She said she was making the call because she wanted a “clear conscience if he takes off and, and just starts shooting places up.” […]

The caller began by saying Mr. Cruz had the mental capacity of a 12- or 14-year-old. She said he had started posting messages on his Instagram account that he wanted to kill himself and she’d alerted police to that threat, but wasn’t sure what happened in that investigation. […]

“Something is gonna happen,” she said. “Because he’s, he doesn’t have the mental capacity. He can’t, he’s so outraged if someone talks to him about certain things.” […]

“He brought the bird into the house,” she recounted. “He threw it on his mother’s kitchen counter and he started cutting it up. He has all kinds of hunting knives. I don’t know what knife he used, though. And he started cutting the bird up, and his mother…said, ‘What’re you doing?’ And he says, ‘I want to see what’s inside.’” Then the caller said, “That to me would be a red flag.” […]

The caller also mentioned that Mr. Cruz dressed up as a ninja or an ISIS fighter.

As The Gateway Pundit previously reported, Cruz followed Syrian and Iraqi resistance groups on social media.

Gallagher: “We should also point out that we have scoured his social media footprint. We have mentioned this before, but he was clearly obsessed with guns because he was attached and followed all types of gun groups, as well as resistance groups — the Syrian resistance and Iraqi fighters. Remeber, we said earlier that he was actually involved in a chat room discussion, YouTube chat room discussion online about the building of bombs.”

It is still unknown which social media platforms Cruz followed Syrian resistance and Iraqi fighters on.

Cruz is not suspected of carrying out the shooting in the name of Islam or any Jihadi organization.

CNN Upset That Trump Called Florida School Shooter A ‘Sicko’

What would you call someone who opens fire in a school and cowardly murders 17 innocent students? The President of the United States called that person a “savage sicko” and I think most people would agree with that. The clowns over at fake news CNN however find the President’s terminology to be problematic. Why? Because it is offensive to school shooters apparently. I’m not making this up. CNN is calling Trump out for pegging a psychopathic killer as a sicko.

Here’s what CNN considers both real and important news:

In a tweet Thursday, President Donald Trump described someone who would shoot up a school as a “savage sicko.” At CNN’s town hall on the Parkland, Florida, school shootings on Wednesday, NRA spokeswoman Dana Loesch described the gunman as “an insane monster” who is “nuts” and crazy.” And at a White House briefing Thursday, the President again used the term “sicko.”

And your point is?

“Hearing language like this is a punch to the gut, particularly if we have a goal as a nation to increase access to mental health care. This is about the worst thing you can do,” said Ron Honberg, from the National Alliance on Mental Illness.

Killing 17 innocent people is not a bad thing, but Trump calling the killer a sicko is the worst thing a person can do? CNN sure knows how to pick “experts” don’t they?

This is already one of the most ridiculous things I’ve ever read, but CNN managed to make it the single most absurd thing ever written. Yup, they found a guy who thinks this proves Trump’s racism as well:

“How helpful is calling a black person the n-word? Not only is it disrespectful, it fans racism. Using such language when it comes to people with mental illness is the height of disrespect and the height of ignorance, as it reduces some hugely complex person down to a diagnosis,” said Pat Corrigan, a psychology professor at the Illinois Institute of Technology.

This CNN expert actually just said that Trump calling a mass murderer who killed 17 people a sicko is the same thing as calling a black person who did nothing the N-word. That actually is sick.

This is CNN saying that they hate Trump so much that they will side with a cold-blooded killer just to oppose him. It’s like how they love brutal dictator Kim Jong Un and his sister as a way to resist the freely-elected President of the United States. This is Trump Derangement Syndrome to the extreme and a perfect example of how truly horrible liberals are.

And guess what? It’s the entire network that is attacking Trump over this. Check out this tweet from CNN’s Brooke Baldwin:

I wonder if she wonders how law-abiding gun owners like being called terrorists and killers, because that’s what the entire liberal media and leftists everywhere are doing. Responsible gun owners haven’t done anything, while the Florida school shooter took 17 innocent lives and here we have liberals sympathizing with the killer and calling good people monsters.

BREAKING: Armed Deputy In Florida School Shooting Who Never Tried To Engage Gunman Resigns

The football coach that confronted the shooter should have been the one armed.

Via Washington Times:

A Florida sheriff says the deputy who was on duty at a high school where 17 people were massacred waited outside the building for about four minutes without ever going in.

Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel announced during a Thursday news conference that Deputy Scot Peterson resigned after being suspended without pay.

Israel said he made the decision after reviewing video surveillance and interviewing witnesses, including the deputy himself. The sheriff says Peterson responded to the building where the shooting took place, took up a position outside a door and never went in.

When asked what Peterson should have done, Israel said the deputy should have “went in, addressed the killer, killed the killer.”

Authorities say 19-year-old Nikolas Cruz fatally shot 17 people at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland on Feb. 14.

911 records show the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office (PBCSO) was reportedly told in November 2017 that Nickolas Cruz allegedly put a gun to someone’s head.

CNN reports that the day after Thanksgiving 2017, PBCSO was called and told that Cruz had allegedly hidden a gun in the backyard of a family with which he was staying. Deputies conducted a search, then wrote up the incident as “domestic unfounded.”

PBCSO was called four days later with a report that Cruz had allegedly “lashed out against the family that took him in.” Deputies found Cruz at a local park and spoke with him. He told them he was upset because he had lost a photo of his late mother. But the family with which he was staying claimed he had just bought a gun and they believed he was coming back to use it against them.

During the second 911 call, the dispatcher was told that Cruz was buying “tons of ammo” and had allegedly put “put [a] gun to others heads in the past.”

Cruz apologized for getting mad, and Rock Deschamps, a family member in the home where Cruz was staying, told the deputy “Cruz had been suffering significantly from the loss of his mother” earlier in the month.

The PBCSO took no action against Cruz.

Likewise, the FBI admitted that it did not act on a January 5, 2018, tip pertaining to “Cruz’s gun ownership, desire to kill people, erratic behavior, and disturbing social media posts, as well as the potential of him conducting a school shooting.”

Meanwhile, Democrat politicians and the establishment media reacted to the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Shooting by seeking to give the government even more control over our lives. Democrats and the establishment media do this by pushing more top-down gun control while rejecting teachers’ freedom to exercise Second Amendment rights in defense of themselves and their students.

Moreover, we are told that only law enforcement ought to be able to carry a gun at school or handle school security, yet the AP reports a Broward County Sheriff’s Deputy who was at Marjory Stoneman Douglas took a position by building 12 but failed to go and confront Cruz during his attack.

Are we really expected to look toward government, at any level, for our safety?

Mary Katharine Ham: Dems Trying to Ban Semiautomatic Guns ‘Would Fail Miserably’

Mary Katharine Ham on Thursday Democrats would "fail miserably" if they followed political analyst Kirsten Powers’ suggestion to restrict semiautomatic firearms.

Ham said the category of "assault weapons" does not include all semiautomatic, but if Democrats did push for a ban on semiautomatics, they would lose.

"If you put that to the American people, I think you’d fail, and I think that’s the reason Democrats do not run on exactly that," Ham said. "Kirsten suggested it earlier, and even went to handguns. That is a thing that you can run on; I think it would fail miserably, I think it would be very bad for the Democratic Party."

"I think they know that, that’s why they don’t run on it, because the NRA is not some nefarious organization—it is powerful because it has a lot of people who care deeply about this right that’s in the Constitution that the courts backed up," she added.

Host Jake Tapper then said Democrats were unable to pass an assault weapons ban back when they did control Congress. He said, incorrectly, that Republicans had a majority in the Senate in 2013 and the assault weapons ban failed again, but he accurately pointed out that several Democrats were against the ban.

But Powers brought it back to the NRA, which she said "actually is a nefarious organization," and she criticized Ham for her point that the NRA has broad support.

"People always say that they have supporters. Guess what? Planned Parenthood has supporters, and you don’t like Planned Parenthood, and you’ve criticized Planned Parenthood, and we’re are always hearing about how bad it Planned Parenthood is," she told Ham, saying the NRA is not "above criticism."

Ham said she did not consider the NRA "above criticism," as Powers charged, but Powers went on to say they are extreme and should be treated as a group "outside the mainstream."

Ham responded by saying that banning semiautomatic weapons is not mainstream.

"I think the position of banning all semiautomatic weapons in this country is well outside of the mainstream, it is why Democrats don’t run on it, and it’s not because the NRA spends some money which by the way is dwarfed by a bunch of others," Ham said.

Powers then said she does not support banning semiautomatics, but she did say handguns are banned in cities, which is incorrect. Ham corrected her, but Powers was still going on, and she concluded by saying she does not want to ban "all guns."

Tapper asked Powers what guns should be banned.

"High capacity magazines, at a minimum," Powers replied.

Tapped asked "how many magazines" Powers would allow, and she did not have an exact answer.

"This is all I’ll say: a high capacity gun that you can go in and mow down 17 people and kill them, I have a problem with," Powers said.

Banning semi-automatic guns was a suggestion that received loud cheers at a CNN town hall the night before. Democrats have not put that on the table, although Sen. Dianne Feinstein has proposed renewing the assault-weapons ban.

Democrat Rep. Dan Kildee (Mich.) said specifically Thursday that he would not support banning all semiautomatics.

Nikolas Cruz did not use a bump stock at Parkland, but Stephen Paddock did in Vegas, and even most Second Amendment stalwarts seemed to agree at the time that you don’t need a bump stock – which is basically an add-on making a non-automatic rifle function like an automatic – in order to exercise your right to keep and bear arms.

Radio legend Michael Savage joined InfoWars host Alex Jones Thursday and called out progressive billionaire George Soros, demanding that the “crazy son of a b*tch” be arrested for meddling in foreign elections.

SAVAGE: “Soros is one crazy son of a b*tch.” I don’t know how in the world he gets away with meddling in foreign elections without having been rounded up by INTERPOL. Soros has meddled in more foreign elections than you can count on one hand. We know it for a fact! And yet we hear not one word, and this is the bewildering part about it, why has Trump not gone after Soros’ meddling in foreign elections? This is a peculiarity of the Trump-Soros thing and I don’t know why. Let me put it that way, Alex. It’s a topic for you to look into. But, Soros is a man who openly meddles in foreign elections. Why is he not looked into?

Recently, the Guardian UK reported Soros donated £400,000 to an anti-Brexit campaign:

The investor has come under sustained attack since details of his donations to Best for Britain were revealed last week.

Soros, who has given much of his personal fortune to his human rights organisation, the Open Society Foundations (OSF), said he had received “toxic personal criticism”. Some have said the language echoes the antisemitic attacks against him made by some governments, such as Hungary and Russia.

In an opinion piece published by the Daily Mail UK two weeks ago, Soros warned against Brexit, stating “This process will change Britain and Europe from friends into foes, at least during the transitional period.

“Before the referendum Britain was doing better economically than the rest of Europe. But this has now been reversed, with continental economies powering ahead while Britain lags behind,” Soros added.

Super. Three quarters of young Americans couldn’t join the military if they wanted to

With all that’s going on in this report from the Free Beacon, it’s amazing that our military is still hitting all of its recruiting goals. But somehow they are.

They don’t have all that many people to pick from, however. Just as the military is entering into a period of renewed expansion, there are fewer qualified candidates and even fewer expressing an interest. According to the Pentagon, if every person in the country age 18 to 24 showed up to apply, roughly three out of four would have to be turned away because they simply couldn’t qualify.

Nearly three-quarters of young Americans are ineligible to serve in the United States military due to obesity, criminal record, or lack of education, according to a new report by the Heritage Foundation.

The contracted pool of Americans aged 17 to 24 who are fit to enlist in the armed services poses an “alarming” threat to national security and risks derailing the Trump administration’s path to rebuilding a depleted military, the report found, citing Pentagon data.

The Pentagon estimates that 24 million of the 34 million Americans between 17 and 24 years old, or 71 percent, are unable to serve.

Health problems are the greatest obstacle to military service, with more than half of the young people who are ineligible for service suffering from a health issue.

This is particularly bad news at the moment because the Army is getting ready to recruit up to 80,000 new soldiers in the coming two years. The Navy isn’t quite as hard up, but they’re going to need 30,000 more sailors. All of this recruiting will be required to expand the service in line with the plans put in place by President Trump.

So what is disqualifying so many of them? For the majority, it’s health issues. Of those, more than half are too obese to be accepted. (The Army is saying they’ll take you if you’re “a little chubby” but if you’re seriously obese there won’t be time in basic training to whip you into shape.) Others are showing up with joint problems, respiratory ailments and related issues. Others failed to graduate high school or get an equivalent degree and are refused entry until they can meet the educational standards.

Other people hoping to enlist have criminal records. If it’s a couple of minor items you can sometimes get a waiver, but if you’ve run up any sort of serious criminal background they have to reject you. (As they should.) This is a big change from the bad old days of the Vietnam War when it was still not all that uncommon for a judge at sentencing to offer a defendant a choice of jail or boot camp.

The other problem the military is facing is a rather ironic one. Unemployment is nearing historic lows at the moment and that’s traditionally when fewer people turn to the military for a career. If better paying (and, frankly, less dangerous) jobs are plentiful, fewer young people are looking to the armed services as a better and more secure alternative to stocking shelves at Walmart. But with luck, enough of the truly dedicated and patriotic ones will keep their noses clean, work themselves into shape and volunteer to serve their nation.
