A California high school student was charged on Monday after he allegedly recruited classmates into a drug and human smuggling ring, authorities said.
Phillip Junior Webb, 18, was arraigned Monday at the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California in San Diego on federal charges of human smuggling and conspiracy to distribute illicit narcotics. He is also charged with trying to cross the U.S.-Mexico border with illegal immigrants hidden in his trunk, according to charging documents.
The migrants — identified as Ming Lin, a Chinese national, and Jose Carmen, a native of Mexico — had no legal status in the U.S., the documents said. Carmen told police that his sister paid $14,000 to get him into the country illegally. Ming claimed her church arranged the trip on her behalf for an unknown fee.
Police also said Webb, a senior at Castle Park High School near San Diego, paid at least five classmates there to smuggle fentanyl and methamphetamine into the country from Mexico last year.
The students, all minors, were each arrested between July and October 2017, in four separate incidents, with drugs strapped to their bodies, the documents said.
Once detained, the teens told authorities that Webb had promised to pay them between $300 and $500 for smuggling trips, according to police.
One student claimed they had already completed as many as 20 drug runs for Webb and another told police that Web threatened him when he tried to pull out of the operation, the charging documents said.

President Donald Trump fulfilled yet another campaign pledge on Tuesday when he announced that he would be withdrawing the United States from the Iran nuclear deal formed under former President Barack Obama.
While Obama acolytes on the left were quite displeased, many others were thrilled with the decision, particularly one veteran with firsthand experience of Iran’s enmity toward America.
Fox News host Martha MacCallum asked retired Army Staff Sgt. Robert Bartlett, who was severely injured in 2005 by an Iranian roadside bomb while serving in Iraq, to share his reaction, and he didn’t even need to say a word to express how he felt about the development.
Bartlett silently raised his right hand to his forehead and held a salute for a moment before he declared, “Thank you Mr. President, I really appreciate it.”

Bartlett, who’s face was disfigured as a result of the Iranian bomb, explained that the blast nearly cut his body in half and took off the legs of his truck gunner. Sadly, his truck commander didn’t survive the horrific explosion.
Bartlett has been an outspoken opponent of the Iran nuclear deal from the start and was asked for his thoughts on the estimated $180 billion in cash that was given to Iran for the deal — money that in large part landed in the hands of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps commander.
“We know what he did with the money, he began spreading more terror, that’s exactly what he did,” Bartlett said.
“It went right into his military. They increased their GDP by five, ten-fold that same year,” he continued. “And then all of a sudden you saw more things happening in Yemen and around other countries they’re spreading their terrorism in.”
“We know exactly what they did with the money because the people are starving. That’s why there’s some uprising, because the money isn’t going to them,” he added.
The soldier stated bluntly, “It was try to spend some money to try to fix something, to buy them off so they wouldn’t build a weapon. It doesn’t make sense, it’s Chicago politics.”
In response to Obama’s statement against Trump’s withdrawal from the deal — which suggested that America’s credibility was ruined and the nation was at further risk — Bartlett appeared dumbstruck by the gall of the remarks.
“Yeah, diplomats got killed under his office, Ambassador (Christopher) Stevens, so these are all policies that his State Department and his people stood by and put together,” Bartlett replied. “He just got more people killed and was gonna get more people killed by the spread of terrorism.”
Bartlett wondered how it made any sense to give billions of dollars to a country spreading terrorism to stop the spread of terrorism, and suggested instead that more sanctions should have been applied, such as was recently done with North Korea.
Our hats are off to this proud warrior for his service to our country and sharing openly about his experience — hopefully President Trump gets word of this interview so he can salute him in return.

The Fox News host has taken on liberal attacks on plenty of fronts during her career — most recently by the Cultural Revolution thugs besotted with gun grabbing poster boy David Hogg — but when she hit on the Democrat Party’s most recent disgrace, she was really striking a nerve.
The political party that claims to stand for women the most, she said, actually has the least regard for them.
The moment came as part of a monologue on Tuesday’s “The Ingraham Angle,” when Ingraham took up the subject of Eric Schneiderman, the recently resigned attorney general of New York state and a powerhouse in the Democrat Party.
Schneiderman was forced to resign effective Tuesday after a lengthy, detailed piece published by The New Yorker magazine featured four women accusing him of various forms of emotional and physical abuse. On CNN on Tuesday, Ronan Farrow, a co-author of the New Yorker piece, talked about how Schneiderman’s accusers were dissuaded from coming forward because “he had the power to do too much good for the Democratic Party.”
For Ingraham, the whole sick scandal is just the latest sign of a liberal movement being exposed its blatant hypocrisy.

The ending is damning.
“The left, while claiming to be the true, honest champions of women, at many times, at many points, considers them to be disposable,” Ingraham said. “Especially when they become politically inconvenient.
“Eric Schneiderman was a stalwart, political ally of the left. But he’s out of the picture now. So, move on, quickly move on, and it’s back to vilifying Trump and any woman who supports his agenda.”
There are, literally, too many women to name who fit under the heading of “disposable” when it comes to Democrat politicians treating them badly. The women serially abused by Bill Clinton, then targeted by Hillary Clinton to preserve her husband’s political career leap to mind.
Then there are the millions of women whose pregnancies are ended — and whose children’s body parts are sold — so Planned Parenthood executives can buy themselves fancy sports cars.
And, of course, there was Mary Jo Kopechne, a young woman who died because of
Ted Kennedy’s presidential ambitions
— and whose memory Democrats have been trying to erase for nearly half a century.
It’s an undeniable reality that for Democrat politicians, women’s lives matter only as much as they need them to keep voting Democrat to keep the party in power. And as Ingraham pointed out, when women become “politically inconvenient,” they become utterly disposable.
Ingraham’s conclusion was speaking for millions of Americans, men as well as women, who’ve been watching this act for decades now, and remain amazed that it continues to work on otherwise intelligent human beings who happen to be female.
“Are any of you fed up with this rank hypocrisy?” Ingraham asked. “Me too.”
When millions of liberal American women start saying the same, we might be getting somewhere.

All three were arrested on vague charges of subversion and treated abominably by North Korea during their captivity. The White House said on Wednesday that all “appear to be in good condition” after their ordeal and were able to board the plane home without requiring assistance. All three share the common surname “Kim” but are not related. All three have Christian religious affiliations.
The statement from Tony Kim’s family reads:
We are very grateful for the release of our husband and father, Tony Kim, and the other two American detainees. We want to thank all of those who have worked toward and contributed to his return home. We also want to thank the President for engaging directly with North Korea. Mostly, we thank God for Tony’s safe return.
We appreciate all of the support and prayers of friends and even strangers during this challenging year. You are dear to our hearts. We ask that you continue to pray for the people of North Korea and for the release of all who are still being held. Thank you.
Tony Kim was arrested at the Pyongyang airport on April 22, 2017, while seeking to depart after a month of teaching accounting at the Pyongyang University of Science and Technology, the extraordinary private school founded by Christian groups and tolerated, but frequently hassled, by the communist regime. South Korean media also reported at the time that he helped to build orphanages in North Korea during his stay.
The North Korean regime claimed Kim was engaged in “hostile criminal acts with an aim to subvert the country.”
“Invited to Pyongyang University of Science and Technology (PUST) to teach accounting as a professor, he was intercepted for committing criminal acts of hostility aimed to overturn the DPRK not only in the past but also during his last stay before interception,” North Korean media declared.
The university said it did not believe Kim’s arrest was related to his work there. It was widely supposed that he was taken prisoner due to rising tensions between North Korea and the United States. His wife was with him when he was detained, but she was allowed to return to the United States.
Kim’s oldest son, Sol, said in a plea for his release on March 2018 that “no explanation was given” for his father’s arrest, he was never formally tried with any crime, and the family “had no contact with him since.” The family’s only information about him came from a brief sighting during the release of fellow American prisoner Otto Warmbier, who died shortly after:
Detainee Kim Hak-song also worked for the Pyongyang University of Science and Technology. He was arrested on May 6, 2017, under suspicion of “hostile acts” against the North Korean government, which promised a “detailed investigation” would be conducted.
Kim Hak-song is a self-described Christian missionary who conducted agricultural research at the Pyongyang University of Science and Technology.
According to a Chosun Ilbo profile from March 2018, Kim Hak-song was born in China to Korean parents, studied theology in Los Angeles, obtained American citizenship in 2008, and went to work for PUST in Pyongyang in 2014. He was arrested while “waiting for a train bound for his hometown of Dandong, China.”
Kim Dong-chul was arrested in October 2015 and accused of working as a spy for South Korea. He was supposedly taken into custody while receiving a USB drive full of classified information from a North Korean defector. He was sentenced to ten years of hard labor in an April 2016 ruling by the North Korean Supreme Court from which no appeal was allowed roughly a month after a similar sentence was imposed on Otto Warmbier.
A North Korean defector and missionary who met with Kim Dong-chul in the United States in 2007 said he presented himself as “a missionary working on North Korea and sending stuff from China into the North to help poor North Koreans.”
North Korea forced Kim Dong-chul to make a televised confession in which he said he formerly ran a trading and hotel business in the Rason special economic zone near North Korea’s borders with China and Russia.
In the forced confession, he said he began working for “South Korean conservative elements” in 2013 by bribing North Koreans to provide secret information about Pyongyang’s military plans and nuclear weapons program.
“You could say my anti-North Korean behavior was also instigated by the United States,” he added. He made similar statements in an interview with CNN under the watchful eyes of North Korean guards.
The UK Mirror quoted an April 30 interview with Choi Sung-ryong, a “representative of the three prisoners,” who said all three were subjected to hard labor during their captivity and were given “ideological education” and “health treatment” before they were released to the United States.

Mission accomplished — for now. Mike Pompeo scored two major successes on his brief jaunt to Pyongyang, and Donald Trump scooped everyone on both:

The release of the hostages has been expected for a few days, so much so that at least one reporter tried to get Trump to comment on it after yesterday’s announcement on the Iran deal. Reportedly, North Korean officials had moved the three Americans to a hotel outside of Pyongyang to prepare for the handover and to presumably get them medical treatment to make them presentable. Trump gives them credit for being in “good health,” at least publicly. We’ll see soon enough how accurate that is, but Trump says he’ll be there in person to greet them when they arrive:

The second piece of good news was also expected. Pompeo’s public mission to North Korea this time was to set the meeting date for the Kim-Trump summit, and that’s also now checked off the list. No word yet on the date or the place, but that will likely come very soon.
So far, the North Korean track has become a big win for Trump. The question will be whether Trump will walk away if Kim tries leveraging all of the claims of success made by Trump to avoid hard concessions on his nuclear program. Kim’s already signaling that “denuclearization” is a term of art for the regime:
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un wants to talk to President Trump about “phased and synchronous measures” to deal with the standoff over the North’s nuclear program, Chinese state media reported Tuesday after Kim made his second visit to China in as many months.
This wording, coupled with Kim’s desire to “eventually achieve denuclearization and lasting peace on the peninsula,” will ring alarm bells in Washington as it reinforces suspicions that the North Korean leader will ask Trump to take simultaneous steps to reduce tensions. …
There is considerable skepticism among analysts that Kim, having tried so hard to get a credible nuclear weapons program, is about to give it all up — certainly not without extracting major concessions from the United States. That could include reducing the U.S. military footprint in South Korea.
Kim’s giving up a lot of leverage up front. He’s eventually going to want this to pay off. If Trump has to walk away … can he, after all the “winning” he’s claimed thus far?

The Scouts should have been prepared for this.
One week after the century-old Boy Scouts of America announced it was changing its name and its mission to accept girls at all levels of scouting, its single biggest participant announced Tuesday that it was cutting ties to the Scouts.
And taking one-fifth of the Scouts membership with it.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, usually known as the Mormons, announced Tuesday that it was severing its relationship with the Scouts effective Dec. 31, 2019, according to the Salt Lake Tribune.
In a statement issued jointly by the church and the Scouts, the church explained the move by noting that its membership was more global now than ever, and required a global approach.
“In this century of shared experience, the church has grown from a U.S.-centered institution to a worldwide organization, with a majority of its membership living outside the United States,” the joint statement said.
“That trend is accelerating. The church has increasingly felt the need to create and implement a uniform youth leadership and development program that serves its members globally. In so doing it will be necessary for the church to discontinue its role as a chartered partner with BSA.”
As far as minimizing the Scouts’ embarrassment, that’s not a bad spin — no policy changes are cited. It’s explained as a natural part of the church’s evolution.
But there’s no doubt that the Scouts’ increasing willingness to give in to liberal pressure on key points had a lot to do with the Mormons’ discontent.
As noted by the Deseret News — a Salt Lake City newspaper owned by a subsidiary of a holding company owned by the church — the “signs of strain of strain began to emerge years ago.”
It was five years ago that the Scouts voted to admit openly gay boys into the organization. The Mormon church said it had always allowed gays to join but the tension was building.
Three years ago, when the Scouts decided to admit gay Scoutmasters, the church said it would stay with the Scouts after the organization recognized “the right of all religious chartered organizations to select their Scout leaders in accordance with their religious beliefs,” the Deseret News reported.
In May of last year, the church decided to drop Scouting from church programs for boys aged 14-17, according to the Deseret News. That coincided with the Scouts’ decision to accept “transgender” boys — i.e. girls pretending to be boys — into the organization.
Now, six days after the Boy Scouts of America announced an epochal change in the group’s mission — complete with changing its name by 2019 to the bloodless, corporate Scouts BSA, the church has announced an end to all ties between the organizations.
From the outside, it looked inevitable.
The Scouts have apparently decided the group’s future consists of a never-ending progression of appeasement to the forces of political correctness, a cycle that’s ultimately hollowing out an organization that used to be revered for its influence on American youths.
The Mormon Church can see where that’s going — just like any sensible person can. Its decision to end the 105-year partnership between the organizations means 425,000 boys will leave an organization of 2.3 million within the next two years.
That’s almost one out of every five, and it’s going to hurt badly. But it only came after a series of decisions made by the Scouts themselves.
One Sout leader in Utah told the Deseret News that the news of the announcent didn’t come out of the blue, but it wasn’t expected now.
“It’ll be a blow,” said Mark Griffin, president of the BSA’s Great Salt Lake Council. “We can’t say that it was a total surprise. Maybe the timing is a surprise, but we knew the church was working on a program for a worldwide church but that any changes would be based on the need to do the same program in Paris, France, as they have in Paris, Texas.”
And a program that won’t be vulnerable to regular attacks from the American left.
They should have been prepared.

Billionaire political activist George Soros continues to write six-figure political checks in the swing state of Florida ahead of the 2018 elections, the latest being a $250,000 drop to Forward Florida, a political action committee supporting Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum in his run for governor.
Soros contributed $200,000 to Forward Florida in 2017. When adding that to a $50,000 donation from Alex Soros, son of the hedge fund billionaire, the Soros family has staked half-a-million dollars on Gillum via the PAC.
As the Washington Post reported in late April, the Democratic primary races for governor in several states are “emerging as central battlegrounds in the broader struggle for the soul of the Democratic Party.” The same article also pointed out that the governor’s races are sometimes more responsive to the party’s grassroots because, “unlike congressional races, where the parties’ campaign committees have intervened in primaries, there’s no national group that takes sides in choosing the nominee.”

The mastermind of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks asked permission this week from a military judge to share information about CIA Director nominee Gina Haspel with the Senate Intelligence Committee.
Al Qaeda leader Khalid Shaikh Mohammed was captured in 2003 and waterboarded more than 180 times by the CIA. Haspel ran a black site in Thailand where enhanced interrogation methods were employed, and opponents are seeking to torpedo her nomination due to her connections to the controversial Bush-era program.
The New York Times reports Mohammed asked a judge at Guantanamo Bay, where he is imprisoned, to share six paragraphs of testimony about Haspel with the Senate Intelligence Committee:
Ms. Haspel is scheduled to appear before the panel for a confirmation hearing on Wednesday, and several Democratic senators have called for the Trump administration to declassify more information about her involvement in the program to inform the debate about whether she is the right fit for the post.
Mr. Mohammed’s request to provide unspecified information to the panel adds a new twist to that debate. It was described by one of his lawyers, Marine Lt. Col. Derek A. Poteet, who is helping to defend him from death-penalty charges before the military commissions system at the Guantánamo Bay naval station.
On Monday, Mr. Mohammed submitted a request to the judge overseeing pretrial hearings in that case, Army Col. James Pohl, Colonel Poteet said. While the file is not public on the commissions docket, Colonel Poteet said it consisted of an expedited motion for permission to provide the information to the committee about Ms. Haspel.
The motion, Colonel Poteet said, included an attachment, titled “Additional Facts, Law and Argument in Support,” containing “six specific paragraphs of information” from Mr. Mohammed that his client thinks the Intelligence Committee should know. After Mr. Mohammed raised the idea, his defense lawyers agreed that the information was important, Colonel Poteet said.
The Times reported it was not clear whether Pohl would report on the motion before Haspel’s confirmation hearing on Wednesday.
President Donald Trump nominated Haspel to replace Mike Pompeo, who was recently sworn in as the nation’s 70 secretary of state after a difficult confirmation fight.
Mohammed was the principal architect of the 9/11 attacks, which killed nearly 3,000 people in New York, Washington D.C., and Pennsylvania.
