Stupid Democrat Accuses Trump of Stealing Personal Items From Migrants Like at “Auschwitz” … Doesn’t Notice Photos Are From 2014

Stupid Democrat Accuses Trump of Stealing Personal Items From Migrants Like at “Auschwitz” … Doesn’t Notice Photos Are From 2014

Rep. Jackie Speier (D-CA) is not known for her sharp wit or keen mind.

On Thursday Speier posted photos of rosaries, wallets, and toothpaste taken from illegal immigrants coming into the United States.
And she compared the tactics like something you’d see at Auschwitz.

Rep. Jackie Speier: CBP takes away rosaries, shoes, wallets and toothbrushes from detained immigrants; what they call “non-essential” personal property. The images in these photos shockingly resemble the shoes collected from Auschwitz – and it’s revolting and chilling.

The photos are heart-wrenching.

But like EVERYTHING else about this migrant child abuse story it is inaccurate and slanderous.

The photos were actually taken by artist Tom Keifer for his art exhibit “El Sueño Americano” that was launched in 2014… during the Obama presidency.

Once again, this is another atrocious hit piece on President Trump from actions during the Obama years.

Thanks to Jack Posobiec.

Media blitz on border children separations appears to have failed

The leftist media establishment threw in every propaganda tool it has, from heart-rending videos of children of color behind chain link fences to abundant tears: crying children and MSNBC hosts Lawrence O’Donnell and Rachel Maddow weeping on air.

If only there had been puppies being tortured on the border.  Those images surely would have been used, pulling out all the stops for visual emotional manipulation.

And yet the Rasmussen poll yesterday showed:

When families are arrested and separated after attempting to enter the United States illegally, 54% of Likely U.S. Voters say the parents are more to blame for breaking the law.  The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that only 35% believe the federal government is more to blame for enforcing the law.  Eleven percent (11%) are not sure.  (To see survey question wording, click here.)

To help understand the current political debate over the children issue, a closer look shows that 82% of Republicans and 56% of voters not affiliated with either major political party feel the parents are more to blame for breaking the law.  But 60% of Democrats say the government is more to blame for enforcing the law.

Seventy-five percent (75%) of Democrats think the Trump administration is too aggressive in trying to stop the flow of illegal immigrants into the United States, a view shared by only 23% of Republicans and a plurality (46%) of unaffiliated voters.

Among all voters, 49% say the administration is too aggressive trying to stop illegal immigration.  Twenty-five percent (25%) say it’s not aggressive enough, while 21% view the administration’s policies as about right.

Fifty-four percent (54%) agree with President Trump when he says, “The United States will not be a migrant camp.  And it will not be a refugee-holding facility – it won’t be.”  Thirty percent (30%) disagree, while 16% are undecided.

Considering the magnitude of the effort, this is a belly-flop for the manipulators.  Remember that the counter-offensive is just getting started, with President Trump’s executive order giving Democrats what they actually demanded (an end to separations) but not what they really wanted (an end to arrests of border-violating people who bring along a child).

There are grave dangers for the Dems now.  As former NeverTrump presidential candidate David French reminds us:

[T]hose of us with a trace of historical memory know that the Trump administration is merely asking the courts and Congress to adopt the Obama administration’s legal position.

Yes, you read that correctly.  As the Trump administration seeks to modify the Flores consent decree to allow for family detention past 20 days – and as GOP members of the House and Senate introduce bills that would overrule Flores – they are following in Obama’s footsteps.  Don’t believe me?  Read the exact words of the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in Flores v. Lynch, the 2016 case that extended the Flores consent decree to cover children with families:

In 2014, in response to a surge of Central Americans attempting to enter the United States without documentation, the government opened family detention centers in Texas and New Mexico.  The detention and release policies at these centers do not comply with the Settlement.  The government, however, claims that the Settlement only applies to unaccompanied minors and is not violated when minors accompanied by parents or other adult family members are placed in these centers.

There are pictures of children in detention from the Obama years that elicited no outrage from the weepers and garment-renders on the left.  Even CNN anchor Brook Baldwin was so taken with this failure that she asked Wisconsin Democrat Senator Tammy Baldwin whether or not she spoke out against family detention during the Obama years and got a lot of embarrassing verbal shuffling around in non-response as her answer:

However, by relentlessly hectoring the public with this propaganda blitz, the MSM were able to divert attention away from the release of the Horowitz I.G. report and, especially, the hearings with Horowitz testifying before a Senate and a House committee.  But even this ploy may backfire, for Horowitz avoided connecting any dots as to the effects of bias, merely supplying the raw data that indicated it.

This means that those who are excavating that data (see Tadas Klimas today on these pages, for instance), have an audience that hasn’t yet been overexposed and is ready to move on.

Tom Arnold Vows To Harass Barron Trump At School

Roseanne lost her show and millions of dollars because of her tweet. This will cost this guy nothing at all.

Via MRCTV:

Actor Tom Arnold, Roseanne’s ex-husband, tweeted that he is going to harass the Trumps in several different locations to protest the President’s recent immigration policies.

In a tweet, Arnold says he plans to show up at Barron Trump’s school because he knows Melania will be there to drop him off. He wants to harass the First Lady and her son because that is definitely how we change policy, right?

James Woods Eviscerates Obama Legacy, Posts His Own Version of Time Cover

The liberal media has declared all-out war on President Donald Trump, evidenced by their incessant and self-righteously indignant negative coverage of virtually everything he says and does.

The latest outrage du jour for the virtue-signaling liberal media is the “zero tolerance” border policy — based on court precedent set in 1997 and clarified in 2016 — that results in illegal immigrant families being temporarily separated when detained and processed following illegal entry into the country.

That policy from the administration has been likened to the vile and despicable acts of the Nazis, and the media has gleefully perpetuated the notion that Trump and his administration have taken delight from splitting up families and throwing children in “concentration camps.”

Along those lines comes the latest magazine cover from TIME — who have a history of slamming Trump on their covers — which juxtaposes a smugly smiling Trump looking down on a sobbing illegal immigrant girl who’d been detained with her mother at the border.

TRENDING: Trump: I’m Cutting All Aid to Countries Abusing America’s Immigration System [Video]

There’s just one big problem with TIME’s cover and accompanying piece — the separation of illegal immigrant families at the border didn’t start with the Trump administration, but occurred under the past few administrations as well, including that of former President Barack Obama.

Conservative Hollywood actor and social media firebrand James Woods said as much when he posted his own modified version of TIME’s magazine cover, which featured Obama walking away from yet another problem that Trump would have to fix.

As the Washington Examiner reported, an Associated Press article covered a lawsuit that alleged abuse and mistreatment by illegal immigrant minors at detention facilities … which occurred during the years Obama was in office.

Are you glad folks like James Woods are pushing back against the media’s anti-Trump bias?

Of course, the AP went out of its way to not even reference Obama once in the article — though they mentioned Trump no less than four times — even as the article made clear the alleged abuse occurred during 2015-2016.

Furthermore, TIME’s magazine cover in and of itself was extremely misleading.

As was reported by The Daily Wire and many other outlets, the little girl who TIME chose to represent children separated from their parents at the border was in fact never separated from her parents.

In fact, as per the girl’s father who still lives in Honduras, the girl’s mother took the young child and abandoned three other children in her home country so she could seek economic opportunity in America.

When the mother and daughter were detained — and kept together — after crossing the border illegally, she falsely attempted to claim asylum. According to the father, both mother and child were doing well and were in fact much safer now in U.S. custody than they had been traversing Mexico with the aid of “coyote” smugglers and traffickers.

RELATED: Washington Post Under Fire for Sickening First Line of Krauthammer’s Obituary

In the end, TIME’s cover reeks of “fake news” promulgated by an obsessively anti-Trump liberal media that is so consumed with hatred for the president that they refuse to allow inconvenient facts to get in the way of their narrative.

It has, unfortunately, become necessary for individuals like Woods and many others to routinely call out the media for their disgustingly overt bias, as distastefully tedious — though at times hilarious — as that task may often seem.

BOOM: Trump Just Demanded Republicans “Stop Wasting Their Time” Trying To Kiss Illegal Immigrant Ass

THAT’S the Trump I like to see.

………………………………… ……………………………………………………. ………………………………………………….. ……………………

………………………………… ……………………………………………………. ………………………………………………….. ……………………

In a unexpected move Friday morning, President Donald Trump posted a tweet blasting Republicans for wasting time trying to pass bipartisan immigration reform and urging them to instead wait until the “Red Wave” crushes the Democrats during the midterms before tackling any sort of immigration-related legislation.

Look:

While this might not be the best move PR-wise, as it could alienate moderates and independents, it should greatly please the base.

Why? Because of what happened Thursday, when the House failed to pass the Freedom Caucus-supported Goodlatte bill because of opposition from RINO “moderates.”

Although the bill would’ve provided DACA recipients with legal status, it would’ve also ended chain migration, eliminated the visa lottery and funded the president’s desired border wall, according to the Center for Immigration Studies:

The Goodlatte amnesty would be available to about 700,000 aliens who received work permits and deportation protection under President Obama’s DACA program. The amnesty does not include a direct path to a green card or citizenship, so beneficiaries would not be able to sponsor family members. Therefore, there would be no chain migration resulting from the amnesty.

In addition, the Goodlatte bill would eliminate several large chain migration categories and the visa lottery. The categories eliminated (after one year) would be: adult sons and daughters of naturalized citizens and permanent residents, and siblings of naturalized citizens. In addition, the category for parents of naturalized citizens would be replaced with a temporary visa for parents, although the parents of naturalized amnesty beneficiaries would not qualify. Together these provisions would reduce legal immigration by approximately 138,000 per year (accounting for the one-year grandfathering of chain green cards). This would result in a net decrease of about 1.23 million green cards over 15 years (138,000 times 14 years minus 700,000 amnesty beneficiaries).

The center further notes that the bill would have resulted “in a net decrease in green cards of 1.23 million over the next 15 years because it offers a much smaller amnesty and makes prompt, deep cuts to chain migration categories.”

Thanks to RINO “moderates” and House Speaker Paul Ryan, the GOP-led House now instead plans to pursue a “compromise bill” that the center notes “would result in a net increase of 2.12 million more green cards through amnesty and chain migration over the next 15 years.”

The president’s astute point Friday morning was, basically, SCREW compromise. I agree!

IRS Tea Party persecutor Lois Lerner had help all along: John McCain

How’s this for sneaky?  Sen. John McCain, not too long after seeking conservative and Republican votes in his failed 2008 bid for the presidency, went right after those same conservative voters without telling them, by egging on the IRS to ruin them.

It’s the sort of political back-stabbing that defies belief, taking an active role in destroying the Tea Party, which was an authentic grassroots movement of local groups calling for smaller government.  Sure enough, Judicial Watch has found McCain’s central role right there in the documents:

Judicial Watch today released newly obtained internal IRS documents, including material revealing that Sen. John McCain’s former staff director and chief counsel on the Senate Homeland Security Permanent Subcommittee, Henry Kerner, urged top IRS officials, including then-director of exempt organizations Lois Lerner, to “audit so many that it becomes financially ruinous.”  Kerner was appointed by President Trump as Special Counsel for the United States Office of Special Counsel.

The explosive exchange was contained in notes taken by IRS employees at an April 30, 2013, meeting between Kerner, Lerner, and other high-ranking IRS officials.  Just ten days following the meeting, former IRS director of exempt organizations Lois Lerner admitted that the IRS had a policy of improperly and deliberately delaying applications for tax-exempt status from conservative non-profit groups.

Lerner and other IRS officials met with select top staffers from the Senate Governmental Affairs Committee in a “marathon” meeting to discuss concerns raised by both Sen. Carl Levin (D-MI) and Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) that the IRS was not reining in political advocacy groups in response to the Supreme Court’s Citizens United decision.  Senator McCain had been the chief sponsor of the McCain-Feingold Act and called the Citizens United decision, which overturned portions of the Act, one of the “worst decisions I have ever seen.”

In the full notes of an April 30 meeting, McCain’s high-ranking staffer Kerner recommends harassing non-profit groups until they are unable to continue operating.  Kerner tells Lerner, Steve Miller, then chief of staff to IRS commissioner, Nikole Flax, and other IRS officials, “Maybe the solution is to audit so many that it is financially ruinous.”  In response, Lerner responded that “it is her job to oversee it all[.]”

Up until now, I had always been under the impression that some conservatives’ negative view of McCain was overblown, and he was far more good than bad.  I was wrong.

The Obama administration’s scheme to repress the Tea Party is a big reason why the Obama administration went downhill in the minds of many voters.  Not only was Lerner not punished for clearly illegal targeting of political dissidents, surely one of the blackest marks on the Obama record, but she was also allowed to get away with it, from taking the Fifth in Congress to the whitewashed official report finding no wrongdoing to illegally deleting and “losing” emails (some that were found were profoundly hostile to conservatives) to being allowed to retire comfortably at her Beltway suburbs mansion with a six-figure pension.  That was the price she paid for persecuting dissidents, in exactly the same way crummy, sleazy, slimy third-world dictatorships do.

She got away with it.  But only because she had help – in, of all people, John McCain, that famous champion of dissidents in hellholes across the Third World.  What a hypocrite.

Worse still, a lying hypocrite.  Judicial Watch had been on to McCain for a long time, coming up with some earlier evidence that McCain served as an accomplice to Lerner to “get” the Tea Party groups, and McCain lied that none of it was true.

Here is his 2014 denial:

A recent press release by Judicial Watch sparked a series of online reports falsely claiming that my office was somehow involved in the IRS’s targeting of conservative groups – reports that are demonstrably untrue and totally contradicted by my all of my actions over the past several years on this issue.

These reports ignore the fact that I released a 37-page dissenting report last September refuting the Democrats’ Majority Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations (PSI) report claiming the IRS showed no bias against conservative groups. Media coverage at the time noted that I was in total disagreement with Senate Democrats on the issue of whether the IRS targeted conservative groups (see The Associated Press article below headlined “Competing views on IRS treatment of tea party”).

What’s he going to do now, claim he never met his top aide, Henry Kerner?  In the records, McCain’s man Kerner said he wanted them ruined.

The whole repression of the Tea Party apparatus, by refusing to allow them to operate as tax-exempt organizations the way leftist groups do, has long been considered a Chicago-style political manipulation that swung the 2012 election away from Mitt Romney to President Obama, who, after muscling through the detested Obamacare, was expected to be punished by voters.  Repressing the Tea Party was a big reason why President Trump got such a battery charge by 2016, because Trump was perceived as a fighter.

In other words, McCain was the guy who, through his sneaky manipulations and back-stabbings, ultimately got us Trump.

Guess we can thank this creep for that.

Jennifer Lopez Spreads Hoax Photographs About Border Separation

Actress and pop megastar Jennifer Lopez spread fake news about President Trump’s border policies by using two hoax-photographs that have nothing to do with America’s decades-old policy of separating illegal alien children from illegal alien adults in detention centers.

Using her Instagram account, Jennifer Lopez published the photograph of a crying child, a photograph that we now know is fake news, a photo that had nothing to do with the separation of children from adults who commit the crime of entering our country illegally. Lopez is basically doing what our irresponsible, anti-Trump establishment media is doing: endlessly broadcasting a hoax.

Simply put, this child was never separated from her parents.

Nevertheless, here is J-Lo, along with Time, CNN, and others, spreading a debunked lie:

Reading the news about the separation of children from their families, I can’t help but think about my own children. I cannot fathom a world where they would be ripped from my arms, taken to a place no better than a prison far from home. I feel we will never forget this moment in time. Bearing witness to these atrocities and that’s what they are, I can say for sure, remaining silent is not an option. As a Latino, and as you know very well, a proud Bronx born Puerto Rican American, we and the people of all different races, roots, and culture have enriched this country. But the recent rhetoric and constant dismissal of what we bring to the table has to stop. This is about basic human rights and decency. If you care about children, have concern for the lack of transparency about this disastrous display, in full view to the world in general, I encourage you first to get caught up on the situation. Next, call your congressperson and demand an answer, but I also want you to remain hopeful—hold fast to hope, faith and Love. We first need to admit we have a problem before we can heal it. We cannot focus on the evil, we must push towards unity and get to a healing place. ITS ALL IN OUR HANDS. Supporting one another in these troubled times, we can remain on the right side of history: the side where children are safe and in their parents arms. Act now, call now, speak now, LOVE now. #familiesbelongtogether #lovenothate

A post shared by Jennifer Lopez (@jlo) on

Lopez went even further, urging her 76 million Instagram followers to “Next, call your congressperson and demand an answer, but I also want you to remain hopeful—hold fast to hope, faith and Love.”

According to Twitter, Lopez also spread another fake immigration photo, but appears to have deleted this one:

Lahren is correct, the photo is from this Atlantic story and had zero to do with anything happening anywhere near America.

Actor Tom Arnold Vows to Target Barron Trump at School Over Immigration Policy

Actor Tom Arnold jumped to Twitter to claim that he intends to show up at 12-year-old Barron Trump’s New York school and harass the child to protest President Donald Trump’s immigration policies.

In his June 19 tweet, Arnold claimed that he wanted to go to the school because he thought he might see First Lady Melania Trump there with Barron.

“On a plane to NY. Next is protesting Baron’s private school as well as James & Lachlan Murdoch’s kids. This is what I can do to end the abuse of these children. We’re going to make you uncomfortable,” Arnold Tweeted.

Arnold added that he would also like to “protest” Donald Trump, Jr.’s children, who the actor said, “already work at Hooters.”
“Dude, we can protest at The White House too,” Arnold tweeted. “Also Melania takes him to school. We want to have a word with her. If we see babies tomorrow, we’re going to Kushners kids school. Don Jr’s kids are already working at Hooters, so we’ll protest there for lunch.”

The True Lies actor announced this he is teaming up with former Trump attorney Michael Cohen to “take down” President Trump.

Arnold tweeted that Cohen has dirt on Trump that he and Arnold will release.

“This dude has all the tapes — this dude has everything,” Arnold later told the media. “I say to Michael, ‘Guess what? We’re taking Trump down together,’ and he’s so tired he’s like, ‘OK,’ and his wife is like, ‘OK, fuck Trump.’”

“We’ve been on the other side of the table, and now we’re on the same side,” Arnold said. “It’s on! I hope [Trump] sees the picture of me and Michael Cohen and it haunts his dreams.”

Arnold is currently prepping a Viceland investigative documentary series intended to dig up dirt and damaging recordings from President Trump’s past; evidence Arnold says he intends to use to “end” Trump’s political career.

Twitter CEO Found Sharing Russian Propaganda

Twitter has long seen itself as a noble warrior in the fight against so-called “fake news” — but many people believe the social media site has gone too far.

Whether it’s banning users who dare hold unapproved opinions, restricting users who defend Israel or using a well-known biased source to label certain people “hate groups,” there has been a hint of Orwell’s “1984” in many of their recent decisions.

Now, you can add “The Emperor’s New Clothes” to the list of cautionary tales that Twitter is emulating. Even after the company claimed to be on a crusade against so-called “trolls” and inaccurate news sources, it’s CEO was just revealed to be spreading the same “fake news” he pretends to be against.

According to The Wall Street Journal, Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey shared over a dozen tweets around the time of the presidential election which originated from an account that investigators now know to be part of a Russian trolling operation.

Dorsey “between late 2016 and mid-2017 shared at least 17 tweets from a Russian troll who went by Crystal1Johnson on Twitter, the Journal’s analysis found,” the respected newspaper stated.

TRENDING: Disgusting: Bratty Intern Attacks Trump in Middle of Capitol Building

“The tweets from the Russian account that Mr. Dorsey shared touched on topics including Bob Marley’s son converting a prison into a place to grow marijuana and former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who first sparked the anthem controversy to make a statement on the treatment of African-Americans in the U.S.,” The Wall Street Journal continued.

While Dorsey did not originate the “fake news” tweets, he willingly shared them, despite the fact that they were from unconfirmed news sources known to be connected to the Internet Research Agency, a Russian propaganda effort.

“The Kremlin-aligned Internet Research Agency ran a propaganda campaign in an attempt to sow discord in the U.S. before and after Election Day, prosecutors say,” The Journal reported.

Although media outlets and liberals — most famously Hillary Clinton — tried to pin President Donald Trump’s victory on Russian meddling, a detailed analysis found that the Kremlin was most likely trying to sow seeds of distrust on both sides of the political aisle, and was “trolling for both teams,” you might say.

Do you believe online censorship on platforms like Twitter has gone too far?

Republican Sen. James Lankford of Oklahoma described the Russian efforts as meant “to create instability and doubt in governments, because they believe they benefit from the chaos and the loss of confidence in U.S. institutions.”

Why American voters need Twitter trolls to lose confidence in U.S. institutions is a mystery; a visit to the local DMV is enough for most people to swear off government entirely.

The revelation about Twitter CEO’s unintentional promotion of Russian “fake news” highlights the big problem with policing speech online: It’s almost impossible to separate “legitimate” opinions from meddling troll posts, even when it’s somebody’s job to know the difference.

A major side effect of setting up complex but flawed algorithms or offices full of human workers to screen and censor speech is that important voices are silenced in the process.

Computers have never been good at detecting the subtle cues that differentiate straight news from satire, and human censors will always have political and personal biases, no matter how much they insist that this isn’t the case.

When even Twitter’s social justice CEO gets caught sharing “fake news,” one question begs to be asked: Is it time to re-think the way social media companies deal with censorship, and take a much more laissez-faire approach?

The solution, in a word, is freedom. Centralized solutions rarely work, and the beauty of the internet is that crowd-sourced data can be more accurate and up to date than any stuffy old newspaper or slow-moving institution.

Ironically, this is why people flocked to Twitter in the first place: By seeing what groups of people think in real time, patterns emerge and users can be more informed, with more variety of sources, than if they relied on an old-fashioned legacy news source.

Stories can be cross-checked and confirmed or debunked in seconds, without the need for a biased arbiter of truth essentially filtering information for users.

In other words, let freedom work and allow people to screen content for themselves. The battle against “fake news” shouldn’t destroy freedom of speech and diversity of opinions in a blind quest for a goal that was never realistic in the first place.

NY Sues Trump Over Constitutional Rights of Non-Citizens, Most 2,000 Miles Away

Each morning, I wake up and wonder just how much more farcical the media’s coverage of illegal immigration will get. Hearsay reports of children being kept in dog cages and having cigarette smoke blown on them? Allegations that detained Hondurans are now being used as forced labor in sugar mines to appease our new insect overlords?

It hasn’t gotten there yet, and I use the word “yet” with the fear and apprehension that those stories aren’t far off. #TheResistance, after all, gets stranger and stranger by the day. And the state of New York is adding to that ridiculously bizarre state.

Those of you who have looked at a map recently (or at all) will have noticed that New York is not on the Mexican border. In fact, it’s a solid 2,000 miles away from our southern neighbor. That’s quite a ways.

Has that stopped Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s liberal satrapy from getting itself stuck in the mire on the issue of illegal immigrants being separated from their children while their cases are adjudicated? Of course not. Precedent be damned — Gov. Cuomo is about to strike a blow for #TheResistance, whether he actually has the legal standing or not. (Spoiler alert: He probably doesn’t.)

Oh, and the people he’s suing on behalf of aren’t even citizens. Just thought I’d throw that one out there, as well.

“Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced New York State intends to file a multi-agency lawsuit against the Trump Administration on the grounds that the federal government is violating the Constitutional rights of thousands of immigrant children and their parents who have been separated at the border,” a Wednesday news release from the governor’s office reads.

“We now know of more than 70 children who are staying in federal shelters in New York State and that number is expected to increase as other facilities are contacted.”

Yes, 70 children who are housed in federal facilities in the Empire State. That apparently gives Cuomo standing, at least in his eyes. Ay dios mio.

“The Governor is directing the Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance, the Department of Health and the Office of Children and Family Services to commence legal action against the federal government’s ‘Separation of Families’ policy,” the statement continues.

Is this lawsuit just political posturing by Andrew Cuomo?

“Following the callous and inhumane treatment of immigrant families at the border, New York is suing to protect the health and well-being of children being held at least 10 different facilities across the state and at others throughout the nation.”

“The Trump Administration’s policy to tear apart families is a moral failing and a human tragedy,” Cuomo said in the statement. “We will not tolerate the Constitutional rights of children and their parents being violated by our federal government.  New York will act and file suit to end this callous and deliberate attack on immigrant communities, and end this heartless policy once and for all.”

The state’s suit is based on the the 1997 Flores Settlement Agreement, which “set national standards regarding the detention, release, and treatment of all children in immigration detention and prioritizes the principle of family unity. It requires that juvenile immigrant detainees be released from custody without unnecessary delay, or when no appropriate placement is available, be held in the least restrictive setting appropriate to age and special needs.”

The proposed lawsuit doesn’t mention any legal developments since the Flores Agreement, which are of some significance. It was also filed before President Trump signed an executive order allowing families to be detained together, which would end the issue addressed in the lawsuit but also could come with a host of legal challenges on its own. Presumably, Gov. Cuomo can work himself into a towering rage over that, too.

There are a lot of questions raised by this preposterous lawsuit. Where, for example, are illegal immigrants “afforded rights under the United States Constitution to familial integrity,” particularly when they’ve committed a crime? Is that in the director’s cut of the Constitution?

Furthermore, what legal standing does New York State have when this is happening thousands of miles outside of its jurisdiction involving citizens of Central American countries?

The short answer to this is that none of this matters. Andrew Cuomo — or at least his lawyers — will lose and lose big in court, but this is all about visibility. Cuomo is among the 862 Democrats thought to have a reasonable chance at winning the presidential nomination in 2020, and he needs to be seen as being conspicuously against Trump.

So, even if the lawsuit has less than zero when it comes to merits, that’s not particularly important so long as it aids in Cuomo’s visibility. This will do nothing for illegal immigrants and less for their children, but it will certainly do a great deal for one Andrew Cuomo.
