The Islamic State affiliate in Afghanistan claimed responsibility for a car bomb that detonated Saturday at a gathering of Taliban fighters and Afghan troops, killing dozens of people and shattering the peace of a holiday ceasefire.

The bombing occurred in the eastern province of Nangarhar, where Taliban and Afghan government forces were celebrating the Eid holiday marking the end of the Ramadan fasting season.

Both sides are observing an unprecedented, countrywide pause in hostilities timed to coincide with the holiday celebrations.

In a statement posted to its Amaq news agency, the Islamic State said it had targeted “a gathering of Afghan forces,” but did not provide further details.

The Taliban denied responsibility for the attack in a statement released earlier Saturday.

Afghan troops, Taliban fighters and civilian residents were among those killed in the blast, provincial government spokesperson Attaullah Khogyani said, according to Reuters.

At least 26 people were killed and another 16 were wounded, authorities said.

The Taliban announced on June 9 an unprecedented three-day ceasefire to mark the Eid holiday, which began Friday. The temporary truce does not include American or other foreign forces operating in Afghanistan.

Kabul then declared a longer ceasefire that lasts through Wednesday.

Afghan President Ashraf Ghani has praised the pause in hostilities as a way to convince the Taliban come to the negotiating table instead of returning to the battlefield after the Eid holiday.

The temporary truce produced the unusual sight of the Taliban openly celebrating with Afghan security forces and civilians across the country. In the capital, Taliban militants sporting traditional headgear paired with sunglasses caused traffic jams when motorists stopped to take selfies with them.

Elsewhere in Afghanistan, residents offered fruit and ice cream to Taliban fighters, while children played games with the militants, according to local reports.

Ghani said in an address Saturday that he would extend the ceasefire with the Taliban, but did not offer a specific timeframe. He also appealed to the Taliban to continue its own ceasefire, which is set to end Sunday.

Although the U.S.-led NATO coalition did not propose the Eid ceasefire, Washington said Saturday that it fully backed Ghani’s effort to bring the Taliban to the negotiating table.

“Agreeing to begin peace talks is an expression of determination to create a unified Afghanistan in which all its citizens can live in peace and dignity,” Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said in a statement. “The United States stands ready to work with the Afghan government, the Taliban, and all the people of Afghanistan to reach a peace agreement and political settlement that brings a permanent end to this war.”

Hundreds of women experience serious if not fatal complications during abortions but at least it’s not more, a study posits, alleging that abortion is safe.

“This study adds to the abundant scientific data that abortion is safe,” said UC San Francisco public health professor and study leader Usher D. Upadhyay, The Los Angeles Times reported Friday.

He notes that for every 100,000 abortions, only 108 women need to go the emergency room according to the study published Thursday.

“Roughly half of the 27,941 abortion-related emergency department visits documented during the study’s five-year period resulted in ‘observation care’ only,” Upadhyay added, continuing to explain that the ER releases three-quarters of patients shortly afterward.

The researchers used a nationally representative sample of ER visits to over 950 hospitals between 2009 and 2013 to conduct their study.

The researchers also found that a third of women who went to the ER after their abortions needed another abortive procedure because the first one had either failed completely or worked impartially.

“The people who are supporting these laws must know that abortion is safe,” Upadhyay said.

“They’ve seen the research — studies like this one — which only adds to the abundant scientific data that abortion is safe.”

The study found that 15 women died between 2009 and 2013 from abortions.

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention however, reports that 36 women died from abortion complications between 2009 and 2013.

Women who had abortions were also 81 percent more likely to experience mental health problems than their peers who had not aborted an unborn child, according to a recent study published in the British Journal of Psychiatry.

Of the women who aborted, 10 percent of mental health issues that arose thereafter were positively attributable to abortion.

Planned Parenthood has aborted over 7,132,130 babies since Margaret Sanger’s founding of the abortion organization. Planned Parenthood doctors aborted more than 328,348 unborn babies in 2016, and killed 6,803,782 unborn babies between 1978 and 2016, according to CNS News.

An American father and mother are continuing to fight for justice for their son, who was killed 18 years ago on Father’s Day in a car crash that left their family separated for life.

Billy and Kathy Inman were traveling with their son, Dustin, on Father’s Day through north Georgia when they were hit from behind by Gonzalo Harrell-Gonzalez, an illegal alien from Mexico.

Dustin was killed instantly, while Billy was in a hospital for two weeks and Kathy was in a coma for more than a month. Neither of them were able to attend Dustin’s funeral because of their injuries.

“I lost my best friend,” Billy told CBS 46 in a recent interview. “My little buddy. This is something I want nobody else to have to go through.”

After the car crash, the illegal alien spoke to detectives but fled when he was instructed to go to the hospital. Investigators with the federal government now say Harrell-Gonzalez has been living freely in Mexico.

Today, Billy and Kathy—who is bound to a wheelchair because of the accident—are continuing to seek justice for the illegal alien killer of their son, telling CBS 46 that they have spoken to President Trump about their fight.

“It’s a struggle every day,” Kathy says of missing her son Dustin.

“The way my son died is unacceptable, how he died,” Billy told CBS 46.

The illegal alien has been indicted on vehicular homicide charges, according to documents obtained by CBS 46, but federal investigators say they need the Department of Justice (DOJ) to work in capturing Harrell-Gonzalez in Mexico and extraditing him to the U.S.

“I hope so,” Cathy Inman told CBS 46 of seeing justice for Dustin’s death.

“Our son’s been gone 18 years. This man’s been walking the streets for 18 years since what he did to my family,” Billy said in the interview. “He’s gotten to see his kids grow up and graduate and do something and get married and whatever they do. He gets to hug his kid.”

“I’ve got to go to the cemetery to see mine.”

More than 1,000 people have been murdered or injured on European soil since 2014, in attacks carried out by Islamist asylum seekers and refugees, research has revealed.

Analysis by the Heritage Foundation  found that asylum seekers were involved in 32 of 194 Islamist plots that have targeted Europe over the past four years, resulting in 357 deaths and 1,678 injuries.

Between January 2014 and December 2017, the attacks involving migrants who were seeking asylum accounted for 182 of the fatalities and 814 injuries, according to the Daily Mail.

Noting that the terror threat on the continent has soared since 2016, when German chancellor Angela Merkel opened Europe’s borders, the the U.S. think tank warned that mass migration from the Global South made it “disturbingly simple” for Islamic extremists to enter EU nations.

“Ill-conceived immigration policies have made it easier for [jihadists] to strike,” the Heritage Foundation’s Robin Simcox said, commenting that “the fall-out from the decision to take in such a large amount of unvetted people in such a short time will continue for decades to come.”

“Europe has faced a severe threat from Islamist terrorism for years. Yet Chancellor Merkel’s decision to open Germany’s borders in 2015 unfortunately increased that threat,” he added.

“While only a minority of asylum seekers pose a security risk, the plots carried out by those exploiting migrant routes – in Paris, London, Berlin, Stockholm and elsewhere across Europe – demonstrate that even a low number of extremists can still cause huge amounts of damage,” said the report, which urged EU leaders to reduce risk by minimising the number of migrants the continent imports from conflict areas scarred by Islamic extremism.

“European leaders were either naïve about the risks or failed to communicate honestly with the public the impact that accepting such large amounts of people would have on security,” asserted Simcox, a national security and terrorism expert.

When a Tunisian migrant murdered 84 by driving a 19-tonne truck into crowds of people celebrating Bastille Day, the institute blasted French media for including “shocking” testimony of the event, warning it risked causing “angry” people to post negative opinions of Islam and immigration on social media.

On his way out of office, during the final autumnal days before the 2016 election, President Barack Obama made an appearance that probably ought to be garnering more attention after Thursday’s inspector general’s report on Hillary Clinton’s notorious email server (and the FBI’s desultory investigation into whether classified material was mishandled on it).

In the October just before Americans went to the polls, Obama was speaking before tech industry suzerains in Pittsburgh, where the White House Frontiers Conference was being held. In his speech, he put himself forward as a 21st century president, the kind of guy who was more likely to build his own computer rig and opine on artificial intelligence than have trouble figuring out how to connect to the Wi-Fi network.

“I confess, I am a science geek,” Obama said. “I’m a nerd, and I don’t make any apologies for it. … It’s cool stuff.”

In other words, this was a man who was putting himself forward as tech savvy. He wasn’t just some old dad who didn’t know what was up. This was a man who knew his way around cutting edge things. And, according to him, he had zero idea that Hillary Clinton was using a personal server to handle email, including classified information.

Obama said that he learned about Hillary’s server “at the same time everybody else did, through news reports.” And, as Maury Povich might say, the inspector general’s report determined that was a lie.

“FBI analysts and Prosecutor 2 told us that former President Barack Obama was one of the 13 individuals with whom Clinton had direct contact using her clintonemail.com account,” Thursday’s report revealed. “Obama, like other high level government officials, used a pseudonym for his username on his official government email account.”

This was more or less “known” unofficially for quite some time, but the report was official government recognition that the former president had to have known about Clinton’s private server. Barack Obama, after all, is the consummate geek. Even if you don’t want to drag out minutiae of cybersecurity at the highest levels of government, surely someone in the nation’s highest office realized that clintonemail.com wasn’t a top-level government domain.

Dan Bongino, a former Secret Service agent who has settled into a post-governmental career as a pundit, appeared on Fox News to remind everyone how Obama’s statement was “nonsense.”

“Obama’s clearly not telling the truth here,” Bongino said on “Fox & Friends” Saturday.

“Now you sense the frustration of large swaths of America who feel like there’s two justice systems out there,” Bongino said.

This is perhaps the great overarching lesson we’re learning from the IG report. It’s not necessarily about this individual revelation, which has long been suspected. It’s about the difference between the alacrity with which the FBI has pursued a chimerical Trump-Russia connection compared with the purposefully lackadaisical manner in which, as spelled out by the IG report, the bureau pursued Hillary Clinton’s mishandling of classified information.

Consider, for instance, Hillary Clinton’s interview with FBI officials working on the investigation. FBI lawyer Lisa Page — she of Page & Strzok fame — said that the FBI should “consider how Clinton would treat the FBI if she were to become President in deciding how to handle Clinton’s interview. Suggesting that investigative decisions be based on this consideration was inappropriate and created an appearance of bias.” In other words, Page said that Clinton should be treated more or less how Clinton would treat herself.

Or, perhaps you can consider the part where FBI agents admitted they hadn’t searched the email devices of Clinton’s inner circle because of “the culture of mishandling classified information at the State Department which made the quantity of potential sources of evidence particularly vast.” In other words, those tasked with finding criminal activity were afraid they would find too many crimes.

And yet, Barack Obama insists he knew nothing about the server even though he was one of the few people mailing it. He insists he didn’t interfere with the Trump-Russia probe even though text messages between Strzok and Page indicate the White House wanted in on the investigation. He is the Col. Klink of presidents: He knew noth-eeeeeng! And the media, bless their hearts, are willing to credulously play along with this.

There aren’t just two justice systems, but two systems for evaluating the lies of presidents. Trump exaggerates a crowd size and there are days worth of discussions that are at once both ponderous and febrile on cable news, yet Barack Obama has lied about his knowledge of Hillary Clinton’s email server — the thing that may well have sabotaged her campaign and probably should have led to charges — and this is glossed over as a non-story. Barack Obama may indeed be a tech geek, but he’s a public relations geek first and foremost.
