Youngest Black Legislator in America’s Philosophy? God, Guns, and Babies

The West Virginia House of Delegates convened Wednesday with a record-setter in its midst—freshman Del. Caleb L. Hanna, who became the nation’s youngest black legislator following his election at age 19 in November 2018.

“I always knew that I was not satisfied with the leadership I was getting within my own house district,” Hanna told The Daily Caller News Foundation in an interview. “I told myself if I ever had my opportunity to take that, I would give it my shot.”

At first, his small Republican campaign was designed to push Democratic incumbent Dana Lynch to be “more proactive in the legislature,” Hanna told The Daily Caller News Foundation. But things shifted when Hanna realized he could win the Republican primary—even if he was running his campaign from his dorm room at West Virginia State University, where he studies economics.

Leading up to the general election, Hanna faced doubts about his age and experience, a shoestring budget, and one instance of racist flyers he reported to law enforcement. But Hanna defeated Lynch by roughly 25 points in West Virginia’s House of Delegates District 44 in November, with results reported as 60.3 to 35.7, according to Ballotpedia.

Making It to Charleston

Hanna is in the state capital, Charleston, as a member of the majority party in the House of Delegates. He said he’s ready to get to work on the economic issues that motivated West Virginia voters in 2018 and stand for his principles, which he sums up as “God, guns, and babies.”

Gun rights is one of the first issues Hanna wants to dive into as a legislator by co-sponsoring a campus carry bill. It’s an issue that has attracted the attention of party leadership in the House of Delegates, reported West Virginia Public Broadcasting.

“The Constitution clearly lays out our constitutional right to keep and bear arms, not just in our homes but also in our places of work and our places of study,” Hanna told The Daily Caller News Foundation. “I live in my college dorm while I’m at the legislature. … I consider that to be my home. I feel like I should have the right to protect myself in my home.”

Help Along the Way

Learning the ropes of being a lawmaker hasn’t been easy, but Hanna said his colleagues, including those in leadership, are always ready to answer his questions.

“Not far from my office is Del. Ben Queen, who is only 23. He’s served a term here already, and he’s also a young member, so he kind of was in the same shoes as me. He was a great inspiration for me to learn from,” Hanna said.

Queen said he first met Hanna when the younger man was in high school. They were both fired up over the success of former West Virginia Del. Saira Blair, who upset a Republican incumbent in the primaries and became the youngest lawmaker in the U.S. at age 18 in 2014.

Hanna is eager to listen to others and learn about issues, which are qualities that make a young lawmaker successful, Queen told The Daily Caller News Foundation.

“Putting your name on the ballot is intimidating enough, let alone going through with a campaign,” Queen said of Hanna. “It’s really nice to have a seat at the table. I think that’s what young people are looking for here in West Virginia.”

Hanna’s district is rural and spread out. He recalls driving for hours to cover enough ground while door-knocking. At least 70 percent of voters in each of the four counties in Hanna’s district voted for President Donald Trump in the 2016 election, according to Politico.

“For them to elect a young African-American goes to show that I don’t think racial discrimination in Trump supporters is actually there,” he said.

Generation Z Enters the Political Arena

Hanna traces his interest in running for office to former President Barack Obama.

“It had nothing to do with policies,” Hanna told The Daily Caller News Foundation. “I was in third grade at the time, but I knew that that was something new. That wasn’t something normal, to have an African-American hold the highest office in the United States. I kind of thought to myself in that moment, ‘If he can do it, I can do it.’ That’s when I started following politics.”

Hanna is in the vanguard of Generation Z politicians. He chuckled at a comparison between himself and Democratic New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a millennial who became the youngest woman to be elected to Congress at 29. Before Ocasio-Cortez, Republican New York Rep. Elise Stefanik held the record for youngest woman elected to Congress.

“I’m not a huge fan of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s policies, the way that she goes about things, but I respect that she is a young person who set out to make a difference. I think you’re starting to see that throughout the country,” Hanna told The Daily Caller News Foundation. “We realize we have to stand up as Americans to do what’s best. That’s one thing I ran on in my campaign. We may be Republicans, and we may be Democrats, but we’re all West Virginians, so we all have to come together.”

Hanna is wary of making a career out of politics, however. He envisions starting a family and doesn’t think that’s something he wants to do in the public eye.

“I didn’t come from a political family,” he told The Daily Caller News Foundation. “I’m living it one thing at a time.”

Wyoming Republicans Push to Eliminate Gun-Free Zones in Public Places

Wyoming State Sen. Anthony Bouchard (R-Cheyenne) is pushing to eliminate gun-free zones on college and K-12 campuses as well other public areas that currently ban concealed carry.

KOTA reports that Bouchard’s bill, Senate File 75, would not impact the ability of private property owners to set their own policies, but it would prevent publicly funded entities from restricting the exercise of Second Amendment rights.

Part of the motivation for the bill came from the University of Wyoming’s continued ban against concealed carry for self-defense.

The Gillette News Record reports that SF 75 would mean concealed permit holders in Wyoming could carry “anywhere in the state” that is public. “Nearly half of the Senate” is co-sponsoring SF 75, as are “23 members of the 60-person House.”

Bouchard commented on his efforts to secure state preemption of the myriad gun-free zones in the state, saying, “I think the anti-gun crowd has kind of kicked the hornet’s nest a little bit. This is an enumerated right that needs to be protected. The number of sponsors shows some movement in that direction.”

Exclusive–Michael Cutler: Immigration ‘Crisis’ a ‘Delivery System’ for Elites

Former Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) official Michael Cutler says the current “crisis” of mass illegal and legal immigration to the United States is the direct result of “globalists going back decades.”

In an exclusive interview with SiriusXM Patriot’s Breitbart News Tonight, Cutler argues that the country’s immigration system — which imports more than 1.5 million illegal and legal immigrants a year — is not “broken” as Democrats and Republicans often claim, but actually operating “exactly” how politicians and their billionaire donors intended it to work.

Cutler said:

Both sides of the aisle have been globalists going back decades. And that’s how we’ve gotten ourselves into this mess. [Emphasis added]

When people say ‘The immigration system is broken,’ I’m going to shock you and tell you it’s not broken. It’s doing exactly what the elite want. It is a delivery system and what it delivers is an unlimited supply of cheap, exploitable labor … it delivers an unlimited supply of foreign tourists. That’s why we have 28 visa waiver countries on 9/11, today we have 38 visa waiver countries. There should be zero visa waiver countries if you look at the findings of the 9/11 Commission. [Emphasis added]

It also delivers an unlimited supply of foreign students and for the immigration lawyers … an unlimited supply of clientele. [Emphasis added]

Listen to Cutler’s full interview here:

Cutler also called out Sen. Chuck Schumer’s (D-NY) record on wanting to increase penalties for Americans who trespass on federal property while opposing the enforcement of immigration law that penalizes illegal aliens for trespassing into the U.S.

“Chuck Schumer in 2014 … wanted a federal law that would make trespassing on critical infrastructure a five-year federal felony,” Cutler said.

“The same Schumer says when you trespass on America, however, you’ve earned citizenship of the highest honor that we can bestow upon a foreign national,” Cutler continued. “It’s outrageous beyond words.”

“This is a crisis that has been festering far too long because you’ve had far too many immoral, greedy politicians willing to sell America to the highest bidder through campaign contributions,” Cutler said.

Currently, the federal government has remained partially shut down as House Democrats block any funding for physical barriers at the U.S.-Mexico border. A handful of Senate Republicans, meanwhile, crafted a plan to give amnesty to illegal aliens that ultimately failed to gain traction.

President Donald Trump has said he is reviewing a plan to deem the border and illegal immigration a national emergency in order to fund a wall along the southern border.

Trump: I’m In The White House, Democrats Are On Vacation

The play Hamilton opening in Puerto Rico trumps negotiations.

Via Washington Examiner:

President Trump took congressional Democrats to task for being “on vacation” Saturday, decrying their jaunt to Puerto Rico as the partial government shutdown entered record territory.

He told Jeanine Pirro on her Fox News show, “Justice with Judge Jeanine,” that while he could call a national emergency at the southern border, as he has threatened to be able to take existing funding for the border wall, he does not want to do so.

“I’d rather see the Democrats come back from their vacation and act. They’re not acting, and they’re the ones that are holding it up,” he said. “It would take me 15 minutes to get a deal done, and everybody could go back to work. But I’d like to see them act responsibly, and they’re not acting responsibly, and that’s it. I’m in the White House, and most of them are in different locations. They’re watching a certain musical in a very nice location.”

About 30 Democratic lawmakers flew to Puerto Rico on Friday for the Congressional Hispanic Caucus BOLD PAC winter retreat in San Juan, also attended by more than 100 lobbyists and corporate executives. They are slated to see the hit Broadway musical “Hamilton” and attend a party with the show’s cast, among other events.

US joins calls to oust Venezuelan dictator. Opposition leader thrown in prison.

Earlier this week we learned that a group of Central and South American nations (plus Canada) had labeled the regime of Venezuelan dictator Nicolas Maduro illegitimate and called for him to step aside. At that time, I wondered when more nations would join in this effort, as well as the Organization of American States. As it happens, only a few days later the dominos began to fall a bit faster. The OAS and the United States both called on Maduro to be removed from office. The general consensus seems to be that Maduro should be replaced by opposition party and National Congress leader Juan Guaido. (Associated Press)

The United States ramped up its criticism of Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro on Saturday with an explicit call for the formation of a new government in the country.

The State Department said in a statement that it stood behind the head of Venezuela’s opposition-run congress, Juan Guaido, who said on Friday he is prepared to step into the nation’s presidency temporarily to replace Maduro.

The statement was the latest in a barrage of Trump administration attacks on Maduro, whose inauguration to a new term as president on Thursday has been widely denounced as illegitimate.

As I mentioned above, it wasn’t just the United States doing this. On the same day, a spokesman for the Organization of American States tweeted out a statement recognizing Guaido as Venezuela’s interim president.

That may sound disorderly, but I learned an interesting fact about Venezuelan government over the course of researching this story. It turns out that the Venezuelan constitution provides for assigning the presidency to the head of the National Assembly (Guaido in this case) if the current president is determined to be illegitimate, so there’s clearly some legal ground for replacing Maduro.

Unfortunately for the opposition, it took barely 48 hours from the time Guaido said he was ready to take charge until Maduro had him arrested. (BBC)

The head of Venezuela’s opposition-controlled parliament, Juan Guaidó, has been detained by intelligent agents.

His wife, Fabiana Rosales, said on Twitter Mr Guaidó’s whereabouts were unknown.

A video posted on social media appears to show agents removing him from a car in the middle of a busy road.

Here’s the video of what happens to you in Venezuela if you attempt to defy the tyrant.

Getting back to the unlikely transfer of power, all of this is still lip service unless there is some concrete action to push the dictator off his throne. Assuming someone can get him out of Maduro’s dungeons, Guaido can claim the right to ascend to power, but he admits that the feat can’t be accomplished without the support of a majority of citizens taking to the streets as well as the military to enforce the decree. Thus far, countless protests by Venezuelan citizens have failed to dislodge Maduro and resulted only in his militias beating them down, throwing them in prison or simply murdering them in the streets.

Further, while there have been a few defectors and some talk of a coup by smaller units, the military has thus far stayed solidly behind Maduro and upheld his decrees. Add to that the fact that the dictator now has the open support, financial and militarily, of both Russia and China. As long as they keep enough cash in the tyrant’s coffers to keep paying the soldiers, the military is unlikely to abandon him.

The stage is set for a revolution and the removal of the socialist dictator, but only if the people of Venezuela are willing to start down that road. And if they do, it will be a bloody, tragic battle. Still, we should give credit to the nations who are choosing to recognize the National Assembly and Guaido while calling out Maduro’s recent inauguration for the sham that it is. Now we just need to hope that Guaido hasn’t already become a martyr for the cause.

Media Largely Ignore Democrats’ Puerto Rico Junket During Shutdown

The mainstream media have largely ignored a Democratic Party trip to Puerto Rico this weekend, in the midst of a partial government shutdown that journalists are doing their best to describe as a tragedy for federal workers.

The only significant coverage or commentary has been in conservative media.

The trip to Puerto Rico includes 30 Democrats and “109 lobbyists and corporate executives,” according to the Washington Examiner. The participants are staying at an expensive hotel and have enjoyed a performance of Hamilton featuring its creator, Lin-Manuel Miranda.

The Examiner added that the Democrats will be attending several parties, including one with the Hamilton cast, and enjoying “free time for the members and their families on the trip.”

However, there has been very little coverage of the Democrats’ junket — even after a photograph emerged Saturday of Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ) standing shirtless on the beach.

CNN’s Brian Stelter, host of Reliable Sources and a de facto editorial mouthpiece for the network’s executives, attacked conservatives on Sunday for objecting to media “sob stories” about the shutdown.

Yet CNN paid little attention to the Democrats’ trip.

The only recent articles at CNN.com about Puerto Rico as of Sunday afternoon were an op-ed arguing against diverting relief funds for Puerto Rico to build President Donald Trump’s border wall (which may happen if he declares an emergency), and an article previewing the Puerto Rico premiere of Hamilton.

On air Sunday, the network discussed Puerto Rico in the context of Hamilton and the funding issue — and also reported that Democrat presidential candidate Julian Castro, a former Obama administration official, will campaign there.

NBC News covered the Democrats’ visit to Puerto Rico in glowing terms, in an article titled, “Latino House Democrats to make show of new strength in Puerto Rico.”

The overwhelming majority of Latinos in Congress are Democrats and now that their party is in charge in the U.S. House, they want Puerto Rico’s recovery to be a priority.

To that end, more than 30 Democratic members of Congress — mostly members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, but other House members too — are gathering in Puerto Rico this weekend.

They are attending the annual winter retreat of Bold PAC, the CHC’s political and fundraising arm, in Puerto Rico’s capital, San Juan.

The story, by Suzanne Gamboa, mentioned the partial government shutdown — but presented the Democrats’ junket as an attempt to draw attention to the shutdown’s effects. NBC even described the vacationing Democrats as being “ready to respond as needed” to the shutdown:

The Bold PAC conference was scheduled for Puerto Rico months before the shutdown. Though the largest contingency of House Democrats to visit the island will be many miles from the Capitol, Cardenas said they’ll be keeping an eye on the shutdown politics and be ready to respond as needed. They’ll also be able to get a bird’s-eye view of how the shutdown is affecting the island that is trying to pull itself out of a financial crisis while recovering with the devastation of Category 4 Hurricane Maria.

CBS News followed in NBC’s wake, describing the Democrats’ trip as a fact-finding mission in an article by Camilo Montoya-Galvez titled: ‘It is more devastating than many of us realized’: Congressional delegation visits Puerto Rico.”

The article did not mention the shutdown, but did mention the possible diversion of funds from Puerto Rico.

CBS News’ flagship Sunday morning program, Face the Nation, mentioned the Puerto Rico trip — but only after House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) brought it up, when asked when federal workers would be paid. “I’m not in Puerto Rico. I want to solve this problem,” McCarthy said.

Other outlets, other than Fox News, largely ignored the story — even though Trump referred to it in a tweet Saturday:

Vox.com, the so-called “explainer” website, mocked Trump: “Trump wants credit for staying at the White House over weekends while the shutdown drags on,” it reported, adding that Trump was to blame for the impasse.

Rashida Tlaib is the first Palestinian-American female Congresswoman.
Tlaib is a good Democrat.

Rashida Tlaib is a liberal mainstream media darling.

Rashida Tlaib supports the a “one-state solution” or the elimination of Israel as a nation state.

Rashida Tlaib supports the BDS movement — the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement against Israel.

On her first day in office on Thursday Rashida swore in on a Koran and then cursed out “mother f*cker” Trump.

Now there is a petition to impeach this vulgar leftist from Congress.
The petition claims she lied about her address during the election.

Here is the petition wording.

RASHIDA TLAIB of Michigan was fraudulently elected to our house of representatives during the November 2018 primary election process. She lied about living in Detroit using her fathers house address .. she never lived there .. she lived in Dearborn ., her father has verified this .. you must live in the district you are running in to represent .. We demand a full investigation and recount of every vote that she supposedly received .. we also demand a full list of all campaign contributions and who donated to her since she is said to have ties to terrorist organizations such as HAMAS, HEZBOLLA , CAIR & the Muslim Brotherhood .. This woman is a anti-semite , a war mongering hate filled Palestinian who has vowed to try and destroy our constitutional rights, hates America , hates American citizens , hates Jews , hates white Americans .. she has vowed and publically posted for the destruction of Israel , encouraged violence and hate within our country , encouraged resistance to our constitution, our laws and our President .. her words and actions are unprofessional to say the least using profanity and hate filled rhetoric against our country our citizens and our president ..SHES THE ONE WHO SAID WE ARE GOING TO IMPEACH THIS MOT F€£KER REFERING TO OUR PRESIDENT .. she’s a danger to our sovereignty. a detriment to society , and to this country and is unfit to serve in any capacity within our government .. the goal of this petition is to gather enough signatures to bring her traitorous actions against the United States into public view so that we may initiate an investigation into her background , and end her political career.

Trump Has the Democrats Cornered

No sooner had the Democrats taken back the majority in the House of Representatives than they proved their harshest critics correct – the party no longer concerns itself with the interests of the American people.  And by refusing to provide a dime for a physical barrier on our border, they did it in the starkest terms possible.

Led by far-left Nancy Pelosi, who held off a challenge to her leadership from the even farther left, the House Democrats promptly put themselves in the position of being seen taking the side of foreigners entering the country illegally over the security and economic prosperity of American citizens.  They reduced themselves to the absurd position that “walls don’t work.”

I’m not one who necessarily believes that President Trump is a master negotiator or is playing 3D chess.  But whether by design or because of pressure from his restive base, he now has the winning hand to build his wall and go on to re-election in 2020.

What’s important now is that Trump plays his winning hand and resists the growing calls from the opposition media and cheap-labor Republicans to compromise with Nancy and Chuck.  Doing so would just throw them a lifeline.  Instead, Trump should use the power granted presidents by Congress, declare a national emergency, and begin construction of the wall.

Sure, the Democrats and open-border zealots will run to the thoroughly discredited 9th Circuit and get an activist Obama judge to stand the law on its head and issue a bogus restraining order.  But the president will be on solid legal footing, and that ruling will be overturned by the Supreme Court on the expedited basis that an emergency declaration demands.

It took a while for them to admit it, but even liberal legal scholars now grudgingly recognize that the National Emergencies Act of 1976 grants the president the authority to reprogram military construction funds for emergency projects.  And sorry, CNN, but it’s the president and the president alone who decides what’s an emergency.  The Secure Fence Act passed by Congress in 2006 further strengthens Trump’s case for declaring an emergency.

This will put the Dems in the awkward position of arguing that wasteful Army Corps of Engineer projects in Iraq and Afghanistan are more important than one protecting America’s border.  While many of those projects were of dubious value to begin with, many more have already been built, have been destroyed, and are waiting to be rebuilt to be destroyed again.

While all this plays out, the Democrats will be all over the opposition media, declaring Trump a tyrant for having the audacity to secure the nation’s borders.  It will be Trump Derangement Syndrome on parade as one wild-eyed leftist after another vehemently argues against what Americans can plainly see is common sense.

Trump’s greatest value is as a disruptor, and all this disruption is just too delicious, as it forces the Dems to play their losing hand.

While Trump should quickly end the partial government shutdown to take away that issue, he shouldn’t give an inch on DACA or any other form of amnesty.  Doing that would muddy the waters and fracture his base and congressional Republicans.  That argument can wait for another day and for more substantial concessions from the Democrats like an end to chain migration.  In the meantime, let the Dems twist in the wind.

This would also be a good time for the administration to get its communications act together and correct several fallacies the opposition media have ingrained into the public’s consciousness – fallacies like that the wall is an exorbitant expense, when in reality it will save far more through reduced costs associated with illegal immigration, which currently costs the nation well over $150B each and every year.  Heck, it will save money on the reduced need for border patrol personnel alone.  Then there is the fallacy that a 2,000-mile border barrier is some major engineering challenge, when the U.S. has built over 46,000 miles of interstate highways, each mile of which required more complex engineering than setting a steel-bollard wall.  And there is the self-obvious fallacy that agenda-driven politicians, open-borders advocates, and opposition media pundits know more about how to secure the border than border patrol agents who overwhelmingly are calling for a physical barrier.

Having regained one house of Congress, the Democrats immediately boxed themselves into a losing position.  That position is in opposition to the main issue that elected Trump to the presidency: securing the border.  Their fellow travelers in the media can deceive the uninformed portion of the electorate for only so long before it becomes painfully clear that voting for Democrats imperils the nation.

Exclusive–Gov. Jan Brewer: ‘Our Country Is Going to Collapse’ Without Border Wall

Former Gov. Jan Brewer (R-AZ) says the United States “is going to collapse” as a nation without a border wall and end to mass illegal immigration.

In an exclusive interview with SiriusXM Patriot’s Breitbart News Tonight, Brewer said the importance of a border wall should not be understated, noting that the U.S. has had “a crisis for a long time” on the U.S.-Mexico border.

Brewer said:

I often used to say, a country with a border secured is like a house without walls, it collapses. You have to have your houses protected or it will collapse. And if you don’t have a wall on the border, our country is going to collapse. It’s as simple as that. And it doesn’t seem to be something that’s very hard to understand. [Emphasis added]

The Democrats, the left-leaning liberal Democrats just want open borders. I think that’s very plain. [Emphasis added]

Listen to Brewer’s full interview here:

Brewer said the U.S. has a right to enforce its immigration laws, saying that for decades, the federal government has not adequately protected American citizens from illegal immigration.

“It is the federal government’s responsibility to protect the citizens of the United States,” Brewer said. “And they haven’t done it and it’s about time they step up and do their job.”

“We’ve had a crisis for a long time. It’s ruining our country. Illegal immigration is wrong,” Brewer said. “If I go to Mexico, I have to go through the Port of Entry, I have to show my ID … Mexico, Canada they all have these rules, but no we can’t do that because we have to be what, compassionate. Well, let’s show a little compassion for our fellow citizens.”
