Report: Huge Cost of Monitoring Returned Jihadists Means Majority Roam Free in Britain

British government security orders that can be placed on known extremists are so expensive to enforce they are hardly ever used, leaving the majority of returning jihadists to “roam free”.

The arrangements made for Islamist extremists living in the United Kingdom has come under intense scrutiny in the wake of the rediscovery of a former London schoolgirl who defected to the Islamic State in 2015, who now wants to come to Britain to raise an ISIS fighter’s son.

While the British government has stripped 19-year-old Shamima Begum of her citizenship in a bid to prevent her from returning to the United Kingdom, Breitbart London has previously reported how a large number of extremists have already arrived — and continue to arrive — from foreign warzones.

Despite assurances from the police that those returning will be subjected to Terrorism Prevention and Investigation Measures (TPIMs), a report by British newspaper The Times reports that only a small minority are actually monitored in this way.

Nikita Malik of the Henry Jackson Society told the paper that, due at least in part to the great expense of putting TPIMs in place, only a small number have actually been activated, speaking of only a “handful” of the estimated 400 returned fighters and extremists being subjected to them.

“The rest have been put under surveillance. TPIMs are for the highest level because they are so costly,” Malik explained.

The report revealed Home Office figures showing nearly £5 million had been spent controlling just 23 individuals, with legal bills of £1 million a year and accommodation costs of £70,000 a year per individual. Other costs, including tagging suspects, travel costs, and policing to enforce restrictions, are counted separately, piling up on top of the Home Office figures.

The government disputes the claims of the Henry Jackson Society, and insists the use of TPIMs is not considered on cost grounds.

These figures come just weeks after separate revelations reported by Breitbart London on the monitoring of terror returnees uncovered by Labour MP John Woodcock. Speaking in Parliament, Mr Woodcock said: “Are more than 400 of those returning individuals in jail or going through the court system? We simply do not know, because the Government will not release the figures, despite repeated requests.

“There is strong demand from the public to know how many who travelled to fight foreign jihad are currently free in British communities. Those men and women are escaping justice, despite having been prepared to fight British troops in the name of a sickeningly evil cause.

“If they are not locked up or deradicalised, they are potentially able to import back to British streets brutal killing techniques learned on the battlefield.”

Responding to his questions, a Government spokesman said of the more than 850 UK-linked individuals who are known to have travelled to Syria, “over 15 percent” are presumed dead, and “just under half” are now in Britain.

Most shockingly, despite their association with extremist militant groups and activity in an active warzone, the Government admitted: “A significant proportion of those individuals who have already returned are assessed as no longer being of national security concern” — meaning that far from being prosecuted, they may not even be under active surveillance.

Returning fighters and extremists are not just creating problems for the United Kingdom, but for nations across Europe where unchecked mass migration is a feature of national life. The European Union is to crack down on sales of chemicals in response to this free movement of terrorists, with a European Commission document noting the “vast majority of terrorist attacks in the EU” were commi9tted by terrorists using home-made explosives.

Counter Extremism Project senior director, Hans-Jakob Schindler said of the move: “The guys coming from Syria and Iraq very likely have built hundreds of IEDs [improvised explosive devices] in their time there, because that was one of the preferred methods used as an equalizer against the much-better-equipped Iraqi army.”

Jobless Claims Fall by More Than Expected as Labor Market Rebounds

The labor market has now joined the housing market and the stock market in snapping back into shape after briefly wavering.

The number of Americans filing for unemployment benefits fell by 23,0000 to a seasonally adjusted 216,000 for the week ended February 15, the Labor Department said on Thursday.

Economists had expected a decline to just 225,000. The President’s Day Holiday, which affected reporting in several states, may have exagerated the drop in claims.

Jobless claims hit multi-decade lows in the second half of 2018 but climbed back up during the government shutdown in January.

The four-week moving average of initial claims rose 4,000 to 235,7000. Although this is typically considered a better measure of labor market trends as it smoothes out week-to-week volatility, this now may be reflecting the misleading jump from the shutdown.

Jobless claims are a proxy for layoffs. They have been closely watched for signs that the trade disputes are weighing on the labor market. So far, they have defied predictions that tariffs would led to job losses.

Top FBI Lawyer Thought Hillary Clinton Should Be Charged Over Emails. Someone Talked Him Out Of It.

Former FBI General Counsel James Baker thought then-candidate Hillary Clinton should face criminal charges for her use of a private email server but was talked out of it “pretty late in the process.”

The news comes out just now as Baker’s testimony to House investigators in 2018 was provided to award winning investigative journalist John Solomon, who is also an executive vice president at the Hill. Solomon was given a preview of Baker’s testimony, which has yet to be publicly released. For years, Solomon wrote, the FBI claimed the Bureau was in agreement that Clinton shouldn’t face charges, but Baker’s testimony shows that wasn’t the case – at least not until just before ex-FBI Director James Comey made his July 5, 2016 announcement not to charge Clinton on the basis that she didn’t intend to violate the law (even though intention was not part of the law).

Solomon wrote that Rep. John Ratcliffe (R-TX) asked Baker about his initial belief that Clinton should be charged.

“I have reason to believe that you originally believed it was appropriate to charge Hillary Clinton with regard to violations of law — various laws, with regard to mishandling of classified information. Is that accurate?” Ratcliffe asked.

Baker responded, “yes.”

Later in his testimony, according to Solomon, Baker explained how he ended up coming to agree that Clinton should not face charges.

“So, I had that belief initially after reviewing, you know, a large binder of her emails that had classified information in them,” Baker said. “And I discussed it internally with a number of different folks, and eventually became persuaded that charging her was not appropriate because we could not establish beyond a reasonable doubt that — we, the government, could not establish beyond a reasonable doubt that — she had the intent necessary to violate (the law).”

Baker responded to a question about when during the process he changed his mind by saying, “Pretty late in the process, because we were arguing about it, I think, up until the end.”

Baker went on in his testimony to explain that he thought Clinton was wrong for using an unsecured, private email server.

“My original belief after — well, after having conducted the investigation and towards the end of it, then sitting down and reading a binder of her materials — I thought that it was alarming, appalling, whatever words I said, and argued with others about why they thought she shouldn’t be charged,” Baker said, according to Solomon.

It still seems incredible that setting up a private email server in the basement bathroom of her Chappaqua, NY residence to use instead of a “state.gov” email account wasn’t proof enough of intent to violate the law – a law that didn’t require intent as part of the equation. Solomon concludes by saying Baker’s testimony shows “we still don’t know the full story on how the Clinton email investigation ended and if anyone else disagreed with the outcome — even after congressional hearings and an inspector general’s review.” He suggests incoming Attorney General William Barr or Sen. Lindsey Gram (R-SC) of the Senate Judiciary Committee may have “the stomach to resolve the lingering questions.”

Chicago Police Superintendent Blasts Democrat Politicians, Celebrities and Fake News Pundits For Pushing Smollett Hoax (VIDEO)

Chicago Police held a press conference Thursday morning on the Jussie Smollett hate hoax after the actor’s arrest.

The Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson said he’s “offended and angry” over Jussie Smollett’s hate hoax crime while he delivered an emotional press conference.

Mr. Johnson blasted Smollett’s staged attack as “shameful” then ripped into the Democrat politicians, celebrities and fake news pundits who all pushed the Jussie Smollett hoax whilst attacking millions of “racist” Trump supporters — all without any evidence a crime actually occurred.

“This publicity stunt was a scar that Chicago didn’t earn and certainly did not deserve,” Mr. Johnson said, adding, “To make things worse, the accusations within this phony attack received national attention for weeks. Celebrities, news commentators and even presidential candidates weighed in on something that was choreographed by an actor.”

“The stunt was orchestrated by Smollett because he was dissatisfied with his salary,” Superintendent Johnson added.

Cory Booker called Smollett’s hate hoax a “modern-day lynching.”

Celebrities such as Alyssa Milano jumped into the mix and slammed Trump supporters following the hate hoax.

The Democrats and media have fallen for two huge hoaxes this year, Covington and now Smollett —  and it’s only February.

Hate Hoax Promoters Kamala Harris and Al Sharpton Meet In Harlem Hours After Jussie Smollett Arrested

In politics timing is everything, as the saying goes. And the timing of this meeting was perfect. 2020 Democratic Party presidential candidate Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) met with 2004 Democratic Party presidential candidate and Tawana Brawley race attack hoax promoter the Rev. Al Sharpton at Sylvia’s Restaurant in Harlem Thursday morning–just hours after accused race attack hoaxer Jussie Smollett, whom Harris had supported, was arrested in Chicago.

Harris posted a statement with unquestioned support for Smollett when news of his alleged attack broke in late January, promoting it as a “modern day lynching.”

“. is one of the kindest, most gentle human beings I know. I’m praying for his quick recovery. This was an attempted modern day lynching. No one should have to fear for their life because of their sexuality or color of their skin. We must confront this hate.

Harris, a former prosecutor and state attorney general, stumbled Monday explaining her support for Smollett as the hoax was unraveling, Fox News reported:

“During an appearance at a bookstore in Concord, N.H., a female reporter asked the senator from California if she wanted to amend a tweet from Jan. 29, in which she said Smollett was the victim of “an attempted modern day lynching” and called the actor “one of the kindest, most gentle human beings I know.” Harris has also used the Smollett attack to push legislation that would make lynching a federal hate crime.

“Which tweet? What tweet?” Harris asked. As the reporter specified the tweet in question, Harris appeared to look around for a campaign staffer before responding.

“OK, so, I will say this about that case,” she said. “I think that the facts are still unfolding, and, um, I’m very, um, concerned about obviously, the initial, um, allegation that he made about what might have happened.

“And it’s something we should all take seriously whenever anyone, um, alleges that kind of behavior, but there should be an investigation,” Harris added. “And I think that once the investigation has concluded then we can all comment, but I’m not going to comment until I know the outcome of the investigation.”

Sharpton rose to national prominence as a spokesman and adviser for Tawana Brawley, a 15-year-old black girl who, aided by Sharpton, hoaxed the nation in 1987 with a false claim of being raped by several white men.

The news reports at the time, in the late 1980s, were horrific. Tawana Brawley, a 15-year-old African-American girl from the New York City area, was said to have been abducted and repeatedly raped by six white men. She was found with “KKK” written across her chest, a racial epithet on her stomach and her hair smeared with feces. She was so traumatized, according to reports, that at the hospital she answered yes-or-no questions by blinking her eyes. Making the crime even more vile, if that were possible, she and her lawyers later claimed that two of the rapists were law enforcement officials.

Ms. Brawley’s spokesman was the Rev. Al Sharpton — a dapper television personality and political commentator these days, but a fiery street activist back then. At a news conference, he named suspects.

“We have the facts and the evidence that an assistant district attorney and a state trooper did this,” Mr. Sharpton said. He called Gov. Mario M. Cuomo a racist and warned that powerful state officials were complicit. When asked whether Ms. Brawley would speak with the state attorney general, Robert Abrams, Mr. Sharpton said that would be like asking someone in a concentration camp to talk to Hitler.

Sharpton and Harris were accompanied by reporter into Sylvia’s and Sharpton spoke to the media after meeting with Harris, but apparently neither one was asked about their respective support for race attack hoaxers Brawley and Smollett.

Business Coalition Cites 4 Reasons to Repeal Death Tax

A bill to repeal the estate tax, often called the death tax, has the support of about 150 national business and trade associations that signed on to an open letter to the sponsors of the legislation.

“We appreciate your work to lead the country towards a commonsense tax code that does not impose a destructive double or triple tax at death,” reads the letter Wednesday from the Family Business Coalition addressed to Sen. John Thune, R- S.D., and Rep. Jason Smith, R-Mo.

“The negative effects of the estate tax make permanent repeal the only solution for family businesses and farms,” the pro-business groups add.

The Family Business Coalition’s letter, which includes the logos of the dozens of involved associations, highlights four main reasons for ending the infamous death tax:

1. Repeal would stimulate the economy and help create jobs.

“In 2017, the Tax Foundation found that the U.S. could create over 150,000 jobs by repealing the estate tax. A 2012 study by the House Joint Economic Committee found that the death tax has destroyed over $1.1 trillion of capital in the US economy–loss of small business capital means fewer jobs and lower wages.”

2. Revenue from the estate tax represents only about half of 1 percent of all federal revenue.

“A 2016 Tax Foundation analysis found repeal of the death tax would increase federal income taxes by $145 billion over 10 years using a more realistic, ‘dynamic’ economic analysis. In addition, the death tax forces family businesses to waste money on expensive insurance policies and estate planning.”

3. Polls show most voters support doing away with the tax.

“Typically, two-thirds of likely voters support full and permanent repeal of the death tax. People instinctively feel that the estate tax is not fair. A 2017 NPR/Ipsos Poll found that 65 percent of respondents favored repealing the estate tax, including 51 percent of self-identified Democrats polled.”

4. The tax isn’t fair.

“The death tax is unfair. It makes no sense to require grieving families to pay a confiscatory tax on their loved one’s nest egg. Far too often this tax is paid by selling family assets like farms and businesses. Other times, employees of the family business must be laid off and payrolls slashed. No one should be punished for fulfilling the American dream.”

Chicago Police Superintendent BLASTS Jussie Smollett, Media, Celebs, Politicans In Press Conference

Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson blasted Jussie Smollett for a “shameful” hoax hate crime, and lashed out at media, celebrities, and politicians who amplified Smollett’s story to promote their own agendas, at a press conference held Thursday morning to discuss Smollett’s felony charge.

Police announced the charges against Smollett late Wednesday; Smollett turned himself into authorities early Thursday morning.

CPD Superintendent Johnson revealed details of the Chicago PD’s investigation of Smollett, including that Smollett had paid his co-conspirators by check, and that he allegedly staged the attack because he was dissatisfied with his $1.17 million paycheck from the Fox show “Empire,” and believed he could do better. Johnson also revealed that authorities believe Smollett authored and sent a threatening letter to himself, but that Federal authorities will handle that aspect of the case.

Johnson also took the opportunity to comment on the Smollett case, calling the actor’s alleged actions “shameful” and accusing the actor of taking “advantage of the pain and anger of racism to advance his career.”

“As a black man who spent his entire life living in the city of Chicago, I know the racial divide that exists here,” Johnson said. “I know how hard it’s been for our city and our nation to come together. How can an individual who’s been embraced by the city of Chicago turn around and slap everyone in this city in the face by making these false claims?”

Johnson added that he was personally offended by Smollett’s alleged actions, and blamed Smollett for taking police resources away from Chicago residents who really need them.

“I am left hanging my head asking ‘why?’ Why would anyone — especially an African American man — use the symbolism of a noose to make false accusation,” Johnson said, according to The Wrap. “Bogus police reports cause real harm. They do harm to every legitimate victim who is in need of support by police and investigators as well as the citizens of this city … I’m offended by what happened and I am also angry.”

But Smollett wasn’t the only one Johnson had words for. The police superintendent also lashed out at those who amplified Smollett’s story in order to capture attention for themselves.

“The accusation within this phony attack received national attention for weeks,” Johnson continued. “Celebrities, news commentators and even presidential candidates weighed in on something that was choreographed by an actor.”

“I wish the families of gun violence in this city got so much attention,” he added.

It seems Johnson was referring specifically to comments made by Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA), who called the alleged attack a “modern-day lynching,” and Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ), who used Smollett’s story to promote his own legislative agenda.

Smollett will likely remain in custody until a bond hearing Thursday afternoon. His lawyers have pledged to mount an “aggressive defense” to the felony charge, and 20th Century Fox Entertainment, which produces “Empire,” says they are standing by Smollett for the time being.

Although CPD has concluded its investigation, statements from the FBI and the USPS Inspector are expected.
