Weiner Is Free! Disgraced Congressman Leaves Halfway House in New York

Disgraced former Congressman Anthony Weiner is finally free after serving 21 months in prison and an additional several months in a halfway house in New York City for sending lewd photos to a minor across state lines, a federal crime.

Weiner walked out of his Manhattan halfway house early Tuesday morning, to a gaggle of reporters.

“It’s good to be out,” he said. “I hope to be able to live a life of integrity and service. I’m glad this chapter of my life is behind me.”

Weiner has been in jail since late 2017, after he pleaded guilty to “one charge of transferring obscene material to a minor,” according to CNN, stemming from a sexting incident — the third such incident for Weiner, who lost both his job in Congress and his campaign to become mayor of New York City because he was unable to resist the urge to court women using private messaging services.

Weiner resigned in disgrace from Congress in 2011, after he was discovered to have engaged in “inappropriate, extramarital relationships with several women he met online” — relationships which involved sending lewd photos of himself to the women using Twitter’s private direct messaging service. After making a mistake and posting one photo publicly, Weiner’s habit of conducting affairs using the social media platform was revealed.

In 2013, after hiding out for two years, Weiner tried to re-enter politics, this time running for mayor of New York City. His campaign was widely considered a “test balloon” for then-Senator Hillary Clinton’s potential 2016 presidential run. The effort allowed Weiner’s wife, close Clinton aide Huma Abedin, to get a sense of donor availability in NYC and compile a list of potential Clinton supporters.

But Weiner eventually ruined that effort, too, sending a series of racy texts to a Democratic aide in Indiana named Sydney Leathers, using the moniker “Carlos Danger.”

Although both incidents were clearly inappropriate and unethical, Weiner escaped criminal prosecution until 2017, when federal agents discovered he had again been texting with a female, but this time, she was a minor in Kentucky, and Weiner’s sexually aggressive texts — which included photos — ran afoul of federal laws against sending salacious material across state lines.

Weiner pleaded guilty and was sentenced to a term of around two years in federal prison. He served 21 months in a minimum-security federal facility in Massachusetts and was then transfered, for the final three months of his sentence, to a halfway house, where he was expected to abide by house rules, find a job, and work on re-entering public life.

Weiner has been mum on his future plans — it certainly wouldn’t be beyond belief for him to make a third run at a political career, even this late in the game — but the New York Post reported last month that Weiner has been shopping around a book proposal, likely a memoir of his life.

No one has bitten.

“Every Simon & Schuster imprint has passed,” a source told the Post. “The project is being repped by the hot downtown boutique agency Foundry Literary + Media — which was behind nonfiction best-sellers by ‘Daily Show’ host Trevor Noah, New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton and ‘Jersey Shore’ star Vinny Guadagnino.”

Staggering: Border Agents In Texas Claim 5,500 Illegal Aliens Cross The Texas-Mexico Border Every Day

Here is one more staggering number to put into perspective the all-encompassing crisis currently transpiring at our beleaguered southern border: According to Texas-based border agents, an astonishing 5,500 illegal aliens cross the border every day in South Texas alone.

Fox News reports:

New Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan toured the border in South Texas on Saturday with Homeland Security Secretary Kevin McAleenan.

“We’re not going to leave until the border is secure,” said Shanahan, who is trying to transfer $1.5 billion from numerous defense projects to secure the Southwest border.

In South Texas, border agents the last several days apprehended 229 migrants an hour, or 5,500 a day, forcing the agency to set up tents in parking lots and hiring jets at $16,000 a flight to send adults to nearby Del Rio just for processing.

Pictures released by the Rio Grande Valley sector show migrants piling up in makeshift tents in parking lots as agents struggle to handle the surge

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) numbers continue to show the inundated migrant influx affecting America’s 1,900-mile-long border with Mexico. The Daily Wire reported last week on CBP’s April border numbers:

Per CBP’s official data release, total border apprehensions between points of entry in April rose 6.62% over March’s already-record-shattering pace. Astoundingly, April’s apprehension total of 98,977 is a full 94.04% higher than the monthly total from the beginning of the federal government’s fiscal year, in October 2018. In other words, apprehensions between points of entry along the border have nearly doubled in just the first seven months of the current fiscal year. As Daniel Horowitz observes, the combined total for points of entry inadmissibles and apprehensions between points of entry is 109,144, which is the highest monthly total since the second term of the George W. Bush administration. Furthermore, as Horowitz states, “it is very likely the highest number of unique individuals of all time, given that many in the past were the same individuals deported multiple times within the same week, while almost all of these are first-timers.”

As The Daily Wire has also noted before, part of the reason for the influx is the dissemination in Central America’s “Northern Triangle” region of transparently false claims pertaining to America’s asylum statute. Our asylum statute, 8 U.S.C. § 1158(b)(1)(B)(i), is operative for those who are persecuted in their native countries for “race, religion, nationality, membership in a particular social group, or political opinion.” For instance, ethnic Yazidis persecuted in Islamic State-overrun Iraq should qualify — but purely economically motivated migrants simply hoping to “seek a better life,” in the abstract, should not.

CBP has sounded the alarm on Twitter, tweeting last week: “#CBP is experiencing an unprecedented and unsustainable situation at the Southwest border. In April, CBP apprehended or deemed inadmissible 109,144 individuals along the SWB.”

One unanswered question is why the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has aborted its unilateral rewriting of the much-ballyhooed and highly flawed Flores consent decree, which the Trump administration cites as hamstringing much of its detention and enforcement efforts at the border.

Poll: Majority View Socialism As Incompatible With American Values….

Heartache. Via The Hill: A majority of Americans say socialism is incompatible with American values, and only 10 percent of voters in a new poll have a positive view of socialism. Axelrod: Anti-Establishment Left Versus More Traditional Politicians ‘a Fundamental Fissure in the Democratic Party’

CNN senior political commentator and former Obama adviser David Axelrod on Tuesday reacted to Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) going after former Vice President Joe Biden over climate policy.

According to Axelrod, the far left, anti-establishment taking on the traditional centrists  “is a fundamental fissure in the Democratic Party.”

“[T]his is a fundamental fissure in the Democratic Party and Biden is squarely on one side of the line, Sanders squarely on the other,” he outlined on “New Day.”

Axelrod went on to predict the battle between the two sides of the Democratic Party could look much like it did in 2016 when Hillary Clinton and Sanders faced off for the Democratic presidential nomination.

“It’s a debate we saw unfold in the 2016 race. It is likely to unfold again in 2020 and [Ocasio-Cortez] will be someone everybody is watching because she is sort of captured the imagination of the media as a spokesperson for that point of view,” he explained.

Charlie Kirk: Senator Burr Makes Critical and Timeless GOP Mistake

On Fox News Sunday, Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) gave Donald Trump Jr. the advice of ignoring the recent subpoena issued by Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Richard Burr (R-NC) to come and testify, again, regarding the fake news Russian collusion investigation. Senator Graham is not the only one of Senator Burr’s colleagues who has been critical of the subpoena.

Senator Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) has been dismissive of Burr’s efforts and has said that Don Jr. and the President “shouldn’t worry.” That’s in advance of any testimony.

So why has Senator Burr decided to stand against his colleagues and subpoena Don Jr.? I’m afraid the reason is clear and the motivation as flawed as it is dated. Senator Burr wants to have his Sally Field moment with Democrat colleagues, the liberal press, and progressive activists.

Ms. Field famously made her declaration at the 1985 Oscars that the award she just received meant, “You like me. You really like me.” When you watch the old video clip you can see the sheer joy in her face in believing that a room filled with peers had just made her feel like she was one of them.

Senator Burr wants to be liked. He wants to feel accepted by the very people with whom he feigns to fight over policy on the Senate floor. This is common with conservatives in general, but especially with Republican politicians. It is worth asking why? Why do Republicans do things that contradict their own belief system and alienate their own party members and voters? The Bible tells us to love our enemy, but it is silent on the idea of making our enemy love us.

I believe we can find at least part of the answer if we go back to the Presidency of Franklin Delano Roosevelt. With FDR leading the rhetorical and legislative way, the Democrats became the party wanting to use government to do good things to help people in real need. They became the party of compassion. These ideas are usually associated with the New Deal which FDR pledged to America in his 1932 nomination acceptance speech. It was 12 years later, however, that he made the speech that turned Richard Burr into Sally Field 75 years later.

It was January 11, 1944 in his State of the Union Speech to Congress that FDR suggested that the United States had now accepted “so to speak, a second Bill of Rights under which a new basis of security and prosperity can be established for all — regardless of station, race, or creed.” Roosevelt went on to enumerate these new “rights” which were, unlike the original Bill of Rights which proscribed activities of government, a list of prescribed duties of government. They were:

  • The right to a useful and remunerative job in the industries or shops or farms or mines of the nation;
  • The right to earn enough to provide adequate food and clothing and recreation;
  • The right of every farmer to raise and sell his products at a return which will give him and his family a decent living;
  • The right of every businessman, large and small, to trade in an atmosphere of freedom from unfair competition and domination by monopolies at home or abroad;
  • The right of every family to a decent home;
  • The right to adequate medical care and the opportunity to achieve and enjoy good health;
  • The right to adequate protection from the economic fears of old age, sickness, accident, and unemployment;
  • The right to a good education.

This speech, which doesn’t get nearly the attention it deserves today, is the one that truly began not the shift in government policy; that started a decade earlier. It is what codified what it meant to be a both a good person and a good politician at the same time. It was term-setting. Forget the values and ideas upon which our nation was founded, these were enlightened ideas and to argue against them made you cold, heartless, even inhumane.

Over time the press, celebrities, and activists have come to champion these ideas.

Recently, we have seen Republican Presidential nominees like George Bush, John McCain, and Mitt Romney embrace the ideas of FDR’s Second Bill of Rights. On some level, it is hard to blame them. Read the list above and see how difficult it is in short soundbites to argue against any of what FDR positioned.

The problem is that appeasement doesn’t really work. George Bush never got the love he desired from the other side, despite a massive prescription drug entitlement program. John McCain and Mitt Romney were skewered during their Presidential runs by the same media that has been nicer to them recently because of their opposition to President Trump.

Ah, President Trump. The one who would not pander. The one who did not care if he was “liked” by all the right people. The Democrats, the press, liberals in general really hate him for not making the effort.

Senator Burr calculates that if he gives the appearance of going after the First Family then he might be liked by the “virtuous people.” Maybe they will write something nice? Maybe they will commend his character?

Or maybe they will simply see him as what Ludwig von Mises called a “useful idiot,” unwittingly helping them on their way to a more collectivist society?

Planned Parenthood Tries To Lecture with Mother’s Day Message, But Fails To See the Irony

Sunday was Mother’s Day, the day our nation has set aside to honor all of the women — past, present, and even future — who have given birth to and raised their children to eventually become adults.

Sadly, there is a massive and well-supported organization that subversively undermines the fundamental concept of motherhood by virtue of its advocacy for the murderous procedure that rips unborn babies from the wombs of would-be mothers.

That organization is Planned Parenthood, and despite its decades of work preventing millions upon millions of women from becoming mothers by way of abortions, it nevertheless had the audacity to weigh in with an incredibly ironic message for Mother’s Day.

In a post to Twitter, the Planned Parenthood Global account tweeted, “Today and everyday, we honor mothers around the world and the people who guide us, provide for us, love us — mother us. Happy Mother’s Day to you all.”

TRENDING: Papadopoulos Bombshell Accusation: $10K from Western Intel Was Actually Marked Bills

The tweet included a picture of a mother and young child with a caption that read, “Planned Parenthood is committed to fighting for mothers, women, and the families that depend on them throughout the world — because every woman should be able to decide if and when to be a mother.”

Readers may note that the message from Planned Parenthood said nothing about “fighting” on behalf of unborn children, namely because its entire business revolves around killing such unborn babies, rather than helping to bring them into the world.

The truly ironic aspect of Planned Parenthood’s message is the focus at the end about women having the right “to decide if and when” they would become a mother.

Should abortion proponents sit out celebrations of motherhood?

The organization’s expressed concern for a woman’s right to make choices apparently only applies to women old enough to bear children, and is inapplicable to the millions of young potential mothers who were aborted.

Those aborted girls were never given the chance to grow to adulthood and make the choice for themselves to be a mother or not, as their tiny lives were snuffed out before they even really began.

In other words, Planned Parenthood’s abortion activism has served to deny the ability “to decide” for countless women over the years, as the lives of those little girls were brutally ended before they were even born, much less before they reached the stage where they could become mothers themselves — if they so choose.

For the record, setting abortion procedures aside, women — especially women in the Western world — already have several options available to help them “decide if and when” to become a mother, such as abstinence and a variety of birth control measures, including implants, pills, and even condoms.

Of all organizations and all holidays to chose from, Planned Parenthood is arguably the worst one to say anything on a sacred date like Mother’s Day, which again, celebrates the act of giving birth and raising children, not murdering children in the womb and sucking out their remnants with a vacuum.

In the future, Planned Parenthood might want to remain quiet and sit out celebrations of motherhood, as the organization’s very explicit purpose is actually ending motherhood by ending children.

One can only wonder if the abortion advocates will offer up a similarly ironic message for Father’s Day, despite their work ending the lives of an untold number of little boys that could grow up to be fathers one day, or destroying the dreams of adult men hoping to raise children who instead find out their future child has been terminated in the womb.

This incredibly ironic and tone-deaf message for Mother’s Day from Planned Parenthood is nothing short of despicable, given what the organization does.

They should be ashamed of themselves for pretending to care about motherhood while actively working to destroy the very idea of motherhood.

Tech Tyranny: Apple Bans Natural News for Questioning Global Warming Junk Science

Natural News bills itself as a science-based natural health advocacy organization led by activist-turned-scientist Mike Adams, the Health Ranger. “The key mission of Natural News is to empower consumers with factual information about the synthetic chemicals, heavy metals, hormone disruptors and other chemicals found in foods, medicines, personal care products, children’s toys and other items.”

That being said, Natural News publishes a myriad of articles challenging the status quo and questioning the powers that be.

On Sunday Natural News was banned from Apple News after publishing a report challenging climate change in late April.

Apple wrote Natural News to inform them that their website was being banned based on its claims that are “rejected by the scientific community.” Natural News was quoting data that was confirmed by NASA.

This is the new reality we live in. If you challenge global warming, radical Islam, support Donald Trump, question the deep state and the liberal media then you will be censored, shadowbanned or eliminated entirely from thee public square.

Natural News reported:

As part of the accelerating techno-dictatorship sweeping across the online world, Apple News has banned Natural News for expressing views which Apple claims are “rejected by the scientific community.”

This ban was received shortly after Natural News published a rebuttal to the junk science climate change narrative which falsely claims that carbon dioxide is a poison that will destroy the planet. (Only someone who is scientifically illiterate or completely brainwashed could believe such a falsehood.)

Natural News dares to state the simple scientific fact — now confirmed by NASA — that carbon dioxide boosts the growth of green plants all across the Earth. This is not allowed by the techno-fascists of the Left who run Apple and insist that CO2 is somehow a poison that’s responsible for “climate change.”…

…Even though NASA has also admitted that CO2 is greening the Earth, Apple says that Natural News stories are diverging from the “scientific community,” somehow justifying Apple’s censorship of all news from Natural News, including the hundreds of articles each month that cite scientific journals.

Employees Of ‘Socialist’ Brooklyn Food Co-op Discover Downside Of Socialism, Demand Union

Workers at a “socialist paradise” food co-op in the Brooklyn neighborhood of Park Slope say they’re tired of being oppressed by their bourgeoisie management and are demanding that they be allowed to unionize, per the New York Post.

The Park Slope Food Co-op is supposed to be a safe haven from capitalist grocery stores, where member-volunteers can put in a few hours of work a month in exchange for 20% to 40% off the price of “low-cost, environmentally friendly fare.” But the co-op also has around 75 employees, who say the realities of the socialist system are a far cry from Marx’s utopia.

“Employees of the Brooklyn food collective recently alleged unfair labor practices by the co-op in a filing with the US National Labor Relations Board,” the Post reports, adding that, in response, the company’s “iron-fisted management” “threatened and punished those who support the effort” and suggested that workers looking to form a union could look elsewhere for employment.

“Most of the employees were afraid to provide details of their union battle, telling The Post that they feared their bosses would crack down on them. But one source said the overworked employees are demanding more staffing, better scheduling practices and more transparency from co-op brass,” says the Post.

Management, which consists of six individuals who are also part of the co-op’s roster of 75 employees, reportedly wants to bust efforts to create a union in order to preserve the image that the socialist co-op is a worker’s paradise. Management says they support the effort to organizse, but are fighting to make sure that the socialist principle of collective decision-making is preserved.

“Following Coop principles, we would like to see that any decision by our staff will be made democratically,” the group of six said in a statement, according to Patch.com. That means management would prefer to see all employees, customers, and members of the co-op participate in a vote to unionize.

The co-op dates back to 1973, and is considered one of the oldest, continuously operating food co-ops in the country. A former member described the shop to the Post as “something between an earthy-crunchy health food haven and a Soviet-style reeducation camp.”

In the past, ironically, the co-op’s management has announced boycotts against American companies who they claim employ unfair labor practices. At times, they’ve resisted selling Coca-Cola, Domino sugar, and products from a local Kosher bakery. And in 2008, management began an effort to rid the store of all Israeli-produced products in solidarity with those fighting against the “occupation of Palestine.”

Both the Post and Patch report that this isn’t the first time the co-ops bourgeoisie management and customer base has been exposed. In 2017, two of the six managers were accused of dipping into the store’s coffers to fund expensive flights to Europe, and in 2011, an internal investigation revealed that some of the co-ops “members” were actually household staff of Brooklyn’s wealthier families, who were being shuttled to the co-op to work shifts so that their employers could recieve the grocery savings without having to get their hands dirty.

The employees’ claims will have to go in front of the National Labor Relations Board. They are being represented by the Retail, Wholesale Department Store Workers Union.

Tom Cotton: You’ll have to make some sacrifices for the trade war, but they’re minimal compared to the sacrifices of our military heroes

This analogy reminds me of the part in “Spinal Tap” when they’re standing at Elvis’s grave: “It really puts perspective on things though, doesn’t it?” “Too much. There’s too much f***ing perspective now.”

It must be noted that literally any policy, up to and including the Green New Deal, could be justified in these terms. Imagine the Democratic tax-hike rationales: “Yes, you’ll be paying 15 percent more next year to fund Medicare for All but at least you’re not shipping out to Afghanistan to fight the Taliban.”

In trade war as in real war, some will be called on to sacrifice more than others:

America’s farmers are growing anxious. The establishment GOP narrative about the trade war with China is that this is all a means to an end: It’s a leverage play, plain and simple. We hit ’em with tariffs, choke off American demand for Chinese products, bring the Chinese economy to its knees, then China comes begging to us for unconditional surrender. We set the terms, they sign the new deal, and poof go the tariffs. Mission accomplished.

Hopefully that’s how it’ll work in practice but it’s not how the president tends to talk about the process. In Trump’s rhetoric, tariffs aren’t an unhappy means to a happy end, they’re good in and of themselves.

Trump, who once famously described himself as a “Tariff Man,” thinks tariffs can help revive American manufacturing by making American goods more competitive price-wise with Chinese alternatives. Never mind that that will mean American consumers paying more at the store whether they buy American or buy Chinese. By driving demand towards domestic goods, he’s hoping to drive a boom in domestic supply as well.

If he believes that, though, I’m not sure why he’d want a trade deal with China at all. Granted, ending the trade war would mean the end of Chinese tariffs on American goods, a boon to American farmers, but Trump’s already got a plan in lieu of that happening, per his tweets. Uncle Sam’s going to buy those American goods with its new tax revenue — which it’ll be collecting from American consumers, including farmers, not from China — and then donate them to countries in need. A reporter on the global agriculture beat at Reuters wonders how that would work:

You’d also need an expensive supply chain to ship all of those American goods to poor countries, notes Eric Boehm at Reason. Who’s paying for that? And what would this sudden influx of American goods due to domestic markets in those countries? Either way, he sounds pretty excited about this new arrangement. Is that tough talk to spook China by showing his commitment to a long trade war or is it how Tariff Man actually thinks?

Try to imagine the reaction among MAGA Nation to a scheme from Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez that involved (1) raising taxes, (2) a massive federal intervention in commodities markets, and (3) generous giveaways to third-world countries.

There’s also a recurring question of how well this trade war is being managed. In a real war, you pick your battles carefully and form alliances to multiply your strength. In a trade war, evidently you fight everyone at once:

The biggest importers of Chinese goods are the European Union, the United States, Japan, South Korea, Vietnam, and India. These nations all share three qualities in respect to China: Wariness of Chinese growth, irritation by Chinese trade practices, and existing alliances with the United States. (In case of India, the alliance is under development, and the Trump administration has made efforts to grow it.)…

Which brings us to the president’s self-sabotage. Early into his administration, Trump pulled the plug on the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) and Trans-Atlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP). Since then he has also put tariffs on European and Canadian goods and is now considering the addition of new tariffs. Canada and the E.U. are not America’s adversaries. They, along with Australia, are its most reliable allies—and we need their help if we are to win Trump’s trade war.

A smart strategy would be to lift these newly imposed tariffs on our allies, re-join both agreements, and then encourage India to either join the TPP or form a bilateral free trade agreement.

If if if the goal here really is to maximize pressure on China so that it capitulates and signs a new trade deal with greater benefits to the U.S., then a multilateral approach is wise. But what if it’s not? What if, again, Tariff Man thinks tariffs are good in and of themselves and sees them as a path to greater self-sufficiency for the U.S.? Remember, this is a guy who continues to insist that we’re “losing” because we’re running a trade deficit with China, which is like claiming that you “lost” at the grocery store because the grocer ended up with your money but you didn’t end up with his. Maybe Trump is willing, albeit reluctantly, to sign a trade deal with Beijing that would end tariffs but also perfectly willing and possibly eager to wage a long trade war in the belief that American manufacturing can only benefit from it long-term, never mind the economic wreckage short-term. The fact that Cotton’s reaching for analogies to military sacrifice suggests that he doesn’t think China’s surrender is coming soon, if at all. Gonna be a lot of fallen on the battlefield.
