White Working Class Swing Voters Prefer Nationalist Populism on Key 2020 Issues

White working class swing voters take nationalist-populist stances on the key issues of economics and immigration ahead of the 2020 presidential election, a study concludes.

While 2020 Democrat presidential primary candidates line up to decriminalize illegal immigration and provide amnesty for millions of illegal aliens in the U.S., a study from the AFL-CIO finds that the country’s white working class swing voters are on President Trump’s side to end illegal immigration and mass deport illegal aliens to reduce foreign competition against American workers.

The AFL-CIO study, analyzed by the New York Times‘ Thomas Edsall, reveals that the vast majority of white working class swing voters across the country support building a wall along the southern border to stop illegal immigration and mass deporting the 11 to 22 million illegal aliens living freely in the U.S.

When asked if they disagreed with building a wall at the southern border, less than 30 percent of white working class swing voters said they disagreed with such a policy. Likewise, only three percent of Republican white working class voters said they disagreed with building a border wall.

Similarly, when asked if they disagree with deporting illegal aliens to their native countries, less than 15 percent of white working class swing voters said they disagreed with the mass deportation policy. Also, only one percent of Republican white working class voters disagreed with deporting illegal aliens.

Democrat presidential primary candidates like Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ), Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) have proposed ending enforcement of central Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) policies that detain and deport illegal aliens.

The AFL-CIO study found that white working class swing voters by a 56-point margin opppose abolishing ICE and its role in enforcing immigration laws in the interior of the country.

Like the issue of immigration, white working class swing voters tend to support economic nationalist positions rather the Republican donors’ preferred economic libertarian policies of cutting entitlement benefits for Americans and tax cuts for the wealthiest of Americans.

For example, nearly 60 percent of white working class swing voters support increased taxes for Americans earning $100 million or more a year. About 56 percent of white working class swing voters said they supported a plan to have “the government produce generic versions of lifesaving drugs, even if it required revoking patents held by pharmaceutical companies.”

White working class swing voters are increasingly holding populist worldviews. Roughly 50 percent said they agreed with the state that “social and economic problems in this country are largely due to a handful of wealthy and powerful people rigging the rules to their advantage.”

Another 50 percent of white working class swing voters said they agree that “social and economic problems in this country are largely due to a handful of wealthy and powerful people dividing us against each other so they can take more for themselves.”

At the same time, about 52 percent of white working class voters said they agreed that one of the main issues facing the country is residents “across races and origins refusing to work and expecting handouts” and 54 percent said they agreed that economic problems are additionally spurred by “certain groups failing to work hard and play by the rules.”

The study is just the latest case in which surveys and polls have found that American voters see a divide between their needs and the agenda of the country’s ruling class and their well-connected economic elite friends.

Cruz to Conservatives: ‘Defend Freedom’ in 2020 or Lose It

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) said at the Faith and Freedom Coalition’s Road to the Majority conference in Washington, DC, on Thursday that conservatives have to defend freedom in 2020, because if President Donald Trump isn’t reelected, many freedoms could be lost.

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) spoke at the Faith and Freedom Coalition’s Road to Majority Conference on Thursday in Washington, DC. (Penny Starr/Breitbart News)

“This is a time of consequence,” Cruz said. “This is a time when the fate of the nation is being debated.”

“Defend freedom,” Cruz said, and that includes fighting for economic freedom, religious liberty, and freedom of speech.

Under Trump, Cruz said, tax cuts, deregulation, creating jobs, and lowering unemployment has shown what economic freedom can accomplish.

“It’s for a very simple reason — freedom works,” Cruz said.

“We need to defend not just economic freedom, we need to defend religious liberty — something each and every one of us cares deeply about,” Cruz said. “Every one of our rights in the Bill of Rights – we depend on the judiciary to safeguard those rights.”

“And I’ll tell you when it comes to religious liberty, we are seeing threats and abuses proliferating,” Cruz said.

He cited the Alliance Defending Freedom’s case against Yale University where pressure from LGBT activists led the school to ban financial aid to students who would take jobs at ADF because of its support for traditional marriage and sexual values.

“Well, I tell you when I saw that — I chair the Constitutional Subcommittee of the Senate Judiciary Committee — when I saw that I launched an investigation of Yale’s discrimination against religious faith,” Cruz said.

“Yale receives every year hundreds of millions of federal taxpayer dollars and under exciting federal civil rights law it is illegal for them to discriminate based on religious faith,” Cruz said.

“And we are going to hold them to account,” Cruz said.

Cruz said that freedom of speech also has to be defended, and that’s why he held a recent hearing on whether or not big tech companies like Google, Facebook and Twitter are censoring conservative viewpoints.

“I am going to continue shining a light to defend our free speech and we are not going to let big tech silence the men and women in this room,” Cruz said.

Cruz concluded his remarks warning the crowd that they had to be vigilant ahead of the 2020 election.

“You know how to pray and you know how to stand and speak, and in 2020 our country is going to face an assault — we are going to see the biggest turnout on the far left this country’s ever seen,” Cruz said. “That means we need to awaken the church.”

“That means we need to awaken young people,” Cruz said. “That means we need to awaken every single lover of liberty in America, because if we do not stand up and defend freedom, it will be taken from us, and I am convinced together, standing up for this country, that’s not going to happen.”

“We are going to defend freedom in the United States of America,” Cruz said.

Trump Says Twitter Is Targeting Him, After Twitter Said They We Will Now Label Trump Tweets That Break Their Rules

I’m sure @Twitter will apply this fairly across the board & won’t use it to target conservatives. ??? Co-Chair of House progressive caucus lashes out at moderate Dems as ‘Child Abuse Caucus’

As Allahpundit noted earlier, Pelosi’s arm was twisted today by a group of moderates who threatened to shut down her revised border bill and basically forced her to accept the Senate bill (or have nothing). Now Politico reports on the ugly fights that broke out between House progressives and moderates:

Some lawmakers even resorted to public name-calling, with progressive leader Rep. Mark Pocan (D-Wis.) accusing moderate Democrats of favoring child abuse — an exchange on Twitter that prompted a pair of freshmen centrists to confront him directly on the floor, with other lawmakers looking on in shock…

Reps. Max Rose (D-N.Y.), and Dean Phillips (D-Minn.), both members of the Problem Solvers Caucus, confronted Pocan on the House floor over his tweet. According to sources familiar with the conversation, Rose used expletives, and Pocan said he did not apologize.

“I said, how come you can’t stay 24 hours to do your job?” Pocan said of his retort to Rose on the floor. “He said, ‘My mother thinks I’m a child abuser.’ I said, ‘I’ll tell your mother you’re not a child abuser.’”…

“Mark’s tweet just speaks to why everyone hates this place. He’s just trying to get retweets. That’s all he cares about,” Rose told POLITICO.

Here’s the tweet:

The argument continued on Twitter as well as on the floor of the House:

And on it went:

The Intercept’s Ryan Grim reported that someone (Pocan again?) told him the leader of the Problem Solvers might be primaried:

AOC’s Chief of Staff also lashed out at moderates in a tweet which he quickly deleted comparing them to racist Southern Democrats of the 1940s:

So you definitely get the impression the progressives are spitting mad about this and lashing out at their moderate colleagues. Finally, here’s CNN’s Manu Raju basically making the same case for 3 minutes, i.e. this is open warfare within the Democratic Party. All I can add is ‘Oh what a day, what a lovely day!’

Kobach: Why the Citizenship Question Is So Important

On Thursday morning, the Supreme Court issued its opinion in one of the most important cases of the year. The Court decided Department of Commerce v. New York, regarding the Trump Administration’s effort to restore to the decennial census the simple question of whether a person is a citizen of the United States.

As I wrote last year, if you asked most people whether the federal government learns the number of citizens in the United States after each census, they would answer yes. After all, that’s one of the main purposes of the census.

From 1820 to 2000 a version of the citizenship question was asked in every census but one (in 1840). After the 1950 census, the Census Bureau decided to create two census forms—a short, basic form that all households would receive and a long form (which about 1/6 to 1/4 of households would receive) that would ask all of the information that the federal government needed. Thereafter, the citizenship question remained on the long form until the long form was terminated after the 2000 census. At that point the long form was replaced by the annual American Community Survey, which still contains the citizenship question. But only a tiny percentage of the population receives it.

The Trump Administration in early 2018 made the entirely-correct decision to restore the citizenship question to the census. That decision triggered hyperventilating on the Left, as well as a lawsuit from blue states that made three basic arguments: that restoring the citizenship question was unconstitutional, that it violated the Census Act, and that it did not comply with the arcane requirements of the Administrative Procedure Act.

The Supreme Court has now ruled. In a rational world, the Court would have issued a 9-0 decision rejecting each of these arguments. Instead, the Court ruled by a narrow 5-4 vote that asking the citizenship question was consistent with both the Constitution and the Census Act. But on the third question Chief Justice Roberts joined the four liberal Justices to hold that the explanation offered by the Commerce Department for reinstating the question was “arbitrary and capricious” because it was “pretextual.”  This, he wrote, violated a requirement of the Administrative Procedure Act. The Commerce Department now has the opportunity to present additional reasoning behind its decision.

The claim that the Commerce Department’s explanation was pretextual is based on the fact that it justified restoring the question by pointing out that citizenship information would allow the Justice Department to better enforce the Voting Rights Act. However, the record of the case indicated that other reasons might have motivated the Commerce Department as well.

And that is hardly surprising. There are so many additional reasons for the United States to know how many citizens it has, that it is difficult to select any single one as the most important. Here’s my list:

  1. The number of citizens is something that every sovereign country should know. Canada, Mexico, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, and dozens of other modern countries ask the question. It would be absurd if the most powerful and advanced country on Earth remained willfully ignorant of how many citizens it has.
  2. The principle of one person, one vote is at stake. Right now, state and federal legislative districts are drawn up simply based on the number of warm bodies in each district. Not only are legal aliens counted, but illegal aliens are counted too. As a result, citizens in a district with lots of illegal aliens have more voting power than citizens in districts with few illegal aliens.
  3. The assumption behind moving the citizenship question to the long form turned out to be wrong. It was hoped in the 1950s that a recent federal statute requiring all aliens to register and notify the federal government whenever they moved would be followed and enforced. That data could be substituted for the information lost by moving the citizenship question to the long form. However, the assumption turned out to be incorrect. The registration statute has become a bad joke:  the aliens don’t comply, and the feds make little effort to enforce it.
  4. The citizenship question provides important information about voting. Knowing who is a citizen and who isn’t allows the government to make a more accurate determination of what percentage of eligible citizens are voting in each state and each county.
  5. It yields a wealth of valuable information about immigration. The question allows the government to determine which regions of the country see greater naturalization rates among aliens. This in turn reflects the assimilation of aliens into the American community. Citizenship data also enables the government to better calculate the number of illegal aliens in the country. Right now, estimates range from 11 million to 30 million. The open-borders Left doesn’t want the American people to know the true number.

And the list goes on. The point here is that there are numerous, perfectly-valid reasons to restore the citizenship question to the census. The fact that the Commerce Department chose to focus on only one does not in any way suggest that the Department acted arbitrarily or capriciously.

As Justice Thomas correctly wrote in dissent, “[A]n agency action is not arbitrary or capricious merely because the decisionmaker has other, unstated reasons for the decision.”  He continued, “In short, the evidence cited by the Court establishes, at most, that leadership at both the Department of Commerce and the DOJ believed it important—for a variety of reasons—to include a citizenship question on the census.”  Exactly.

Unfortunately, Chief Justice Roberts and the liberal Justices have required the Commerce Department to provide additional information to the District Court. But time is running out to get the census forms printed, and the opposing litigants and deep state bureaucrats will do everything they can to prevent the Commerce Department from acting quickly. Hopefully the Trump Administration will win the race. If they don’t, the whole country loses.

Bernie Sanders Admits He Will Raise Taxes on Middle Class to Pay for ‘Free’ College and Medicare for All

Senator Bernie Sanders admitted on Thursday night that he would raise taxes on middle-class American families to pay for his big government programs.

“Yes. They will pay more in taxes but less in health care,” Sanders said.

Asked the first question of the second night of Democrat debates, Sanders at first seemed to dodge the inquiry about whether he would raise taxes, focussing on his promises to extend Medicare to all Americans and provide free college through state colleges. He admitted that he would raise taxes when moderator Savanah Guthrie pointed out that he had not actually answered her question.

“Senator Sanders, I’ll give you ten seconds to ask the very direct question,” Guthrie said. “Will you raise taxes for the middle-class in a Sanders administration?”
That got Sanders to say yes.

Trump RIPS Dems Mid-Debate For Supporting Government-Funded Health Care for Illegal Aliens, “That’s the End of That Race!”

All 10 Communist clowns on the debate stage were asked Thursday evening if they would support giving government-run health care to illegal aliens – and all 10 said YES.

This is the Democrat party in 2019 – illegal aliens over American citizens.

President Trump, who is currently in Osaka, Japan for the G20 Summit, slammed the Democrats for being in favor of giving illegal invaders health benefits.

“All Democrats just raised their hands for giving millions of illegal aliens unlimited healthcare. How about taking care of American Citizens first!? That’s the end of that race!” Trump said mid-debate from Japan.

Watch every single Democrat on stage raise their hands in support of giving illegal aliens health care:

American citizens, including military veterans are in need of better health care, yet the Democrats are fixated on giving illegal aliens free benefits.

Had enough yet, America?

STUNNING! We Build The Wall Raises Over $700,000 During Three Day Wall-A-Thon

For three days this week, the heroes at ‘We Build the Wall, Inc. held a major fundraising drive: A “Wall-A-Thon!”

Participating in the broadcasts and fundraising were Steve Bannon, Tom Tancredo, Brian Kolfage and Gateway Pundit’s own Jim Hoft.

Previously raised money has gone to construct a wall on the New Mexico-Mexico border.

Here is a map of where “Section 1” was built:

We are pleased to announce that the three day Wall-A-Thon raised over $700,000 for a new section of the wall!

This is in addition to the over $24 million that has already been raised (to donate via Gofundme.com/thetrumpwall, click here).

DC politicians don’t like the private wall.

They don’t like that private citizens are doing the job the politicians were elected to do. Both Democrats and Republicans are doing everything they can to stop this from being a success.

In case you missed it, here’s what happened on Day Three:

To donate to the wall effort, go here.

Good Ol’ Socialist Bernie Sanders — A Bum Who Earned His First Paycheck at Age 40 — Is Caught Flying First Class to Dem Debate

All socialists are equal but some socialists are more equal than others.

Tonight is the second Democratic Presidential debate in Miami, Florida. The night will showcase Joe Biden, Kamala Harris and Socialist Bernie Sanders.

On Thursday Bernie Sanders penned an op-ed in The Wall Street Journal calling President Trump, the greatest economic president in US history, “the worst kind of socialist.”

This is quite a statement from a bum who didn’t earn his first paycheck until age 40 and then wormed his way into politics.

And the same guy who honeymooned in the Soviet Union.

On Thursday Bernie was reportedly caught flying first class to the Democrat Presidential debate.

Of course, this surprises no one.

Bernie announced on Thursday night he would raise middle class tax rates.

Every 2020 Democrat in Second Debate Supports Taxpayer-Funded Healthcare for Illegal Aliens

During the second Democrat presidential primary debate on Thursday, every Democrat candidate said they supported giving American taxpayer-funded healthcare to all 11 to 22 million illegal aliens living in the United States.

When asked by NBC News anchors whether their healthcare plans would provide taxpayer-funded free healthcare to all illegal aliens, all 10 Democrats raised their hands in support of the initiative.

(Screenshot via NBC News)

Already, Americans pay about $116 billion to subsidize illegal aliens living in the U.S. — providing them with free education, free healthcare, and public benefits.

Today, American taxpayers pay nearly $20 billion for free healthcare for illegal aliens, according to estimates from analysts at the Center for Health Policy and Inequalities Research at Duke University.
