Border Patrol DNA Test Catches Illegal Using ‘Borrowed’ Child in Attempt To Get Released

The liberals who’ve been crying about their concern for migrant children at the southern border need to hear about this. For months, Democrats have accused the Trump administration of abusing children who’ve been brought across the border illegally by families just trying to give them a better future. But a Customs and Border Protection announcement…

Twitter Promotes Fake Tweet From Rep. Jim Jordan Tarnishing Trump

A prank tweet made a member of Congress and President Trump look bad. Twitter then allowed that tweet to trend. HBO writer Dan Lyons posted a tweet that attributed this fake quote to Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH): “While Obama and Biden were cowering in fear on Air Force 1, Mr. Trump was on the ground with first responders searching for survivors and pulling people to safety. I remember seeing him on TV, running toward the danger.” This tweet was trending on July 30 under “Obama and Biden” in the top 10 tweet trends.

Cotton: Goal of Immigration Should Be Commitment to Citizenship

Senator Tom Cotton (R., Ark.) said that immigration to the United States should reflect America’s needs rather than offering temporary work programs focused on low-skilled workers during an event on Tuesday with the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS).

"There is no lack of people in Congress focused on things like security and enforcement or our temporary guest worker programs," Cotton told CIS executive director Mark Krikorian, "But there weren’t that many people focused on our legal immigration system and to me that is one of the cornerstones of our immigration system because it is about not just how we generate workers for our economy but citizens for our country. And that’s what we ultimately should focus on is bringing in new citizens who are going to help contribute to the American story and as I studied our legal immigration system I realized it was just a mishmash of quotas and random set asides and policies that are outdated and no one could even explain."

Cotton introduced the Reforming American Immigration for a Strong Economy (RAISE) Act along with Senator David Perdue (R., Ga.) in 2017, which was endorsed at the time by President Donald Trump. Though the Senate didn’t vote on the RAISE Act in the last session of Congress, the duo introduced it again earlier this year with another co-sponsor, Senator Josh Hawley (R., Mo.). Cotton said he didn’t expect an immigration fix while Nancy Pelosi is the Speaker of the House, and that large-scale fixes of the immigration system would take multiple years to gain momentum.

Cotton commented a bill that affects Venezuelan refugees. While sympathetic to Venezuelans who suffered at the hands of Nicolas Maduro’s regime, Cotton expressed concern about granting temporary protected status, stating that the status is no longer temporary.

Cotton cosponsored a bill which would eliminate the country caps on high-skilled immigrants while leaving the overall cap in place, which he said was a measure included in the RAISE Act. The bill passed the House with wide bipartisan support, 365-65.

Cotton also said that Democrats had "lost their mind" on immigration, noting the 2020 Democrats who advocate for decriminalizing border crossings and providing illegal immigrants with government-sponsored health care. "They intentionally said repeatedly as a selling point for Obamacare that illegal immigrants would not be eligible for Obamacare and now you’ve got poor Joe Biden getting attacked on those debate stages by Democrats who say that they deported too many illegal immigrants during the Obama-Biden years," Cotton said, "It just goes to show how radical the Democratic Party has become."

Report: Antifa Planning ‘Militancy Training,’ ‘Siege in El Paso,’ Flyer Depicts Burning Border Patrol Vehicle, Molotov Cocktail

Members of the far-left antifa movement are planning to converge near the U.S.-Mexico border in September to protest conditions at migrant detention facilities. And what they reportedly aim to do in El Paso, Texas, is concerning, to say the least. “Antifa is leading a ‘Border Resistance’ militancy training tour that will converge on a 10-day…

Small-Town Gun Shop Makes Hilarious ‘4 Horsemen’ Billboard: ‘Signed, the Deplorables’

A gun shop in a small North Carolina town is taking some heat from the left after putting up a particularly funny billboard. The sign features the four progressive freshman lawmakers known as “the Squad“: Reps. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, Rashida Tlaib of Michigan, and Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts. Cherokee…

New, perfectly legal college scam: Rich parents giving up guardianship of their children to qualify them for financial aid

For some reason it’s the petty corruption of stories like this and the Lori Loughlin one, involving fatcats rigging the college process for their kids, that brings out my inner populist more so than the grand-scale corruption that the rich routinely engage in. You want to buy off federal regulators to protect your business’s bottom line? Eh, whatever. That’s something elite cretins in every society do.

You want to run a scam to get your kid a discount admission to university when poorer families are desperate for aid? Then we should turn you and your spawn into hot dogs.

Partly that’s me being parochial. Many of us know firsthand the financial burden of paying for school whereas influence peddling on Capitol Hill doesn’t reach us as directly. But it’s also partly the sense that the playing field should be a bit more equal for kids, at least. There’s so much time for the rich to game various systems to their advantage once they’re adults! At least give the teens from schlubby middle-class families a fighting chance.

Anyway, fire up the grill. It’s hot-dog time.

Parents are giving up legal guardianship of their children during their junior or senior year in high school to someone else — a friend, aunt, cousin or grandparent. The guardianship status then allows the students to declare themselves financially independent of their families so they can qualify for federal, state and university aid, a ProPublica Illinois investigation found…

ProPublica Illinois found more than 40 guardianship cases fitting this profile filed between January 2018 and June 2019 in the Chicago suburbs of Lake County alone. The parents involved in these cases include lawyers, a doctor and an assistant schools superintendent, as well as insurance and real estate agents. A number of the children are high-achieving scholars, athletes and musicians who attend or have been accepted to a range of universities…

In Illinois last year, about 82,000 students who were eligible for the [Monetary Award Program] grant, up to about $5,000, did not receive it because there wasn’t enough money. The grant is awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.

In other words, if you’re in the not-so-sweet spot between middle class, where your kid qualifies for aid, and quite rich, where the cost of education is of no consequence, you’re better off effectively emancipating them so that they can feed from the same trough of grant money as students in more dire need of financial help. The Journal looked at one case:

One Chicago-area woman told The Wall Street Journal that she transferred guardianship of her then 17-year-old daughter to her business partner last year. While her household income is greater than $250,000 a year, she said, she and her husband have spent about $600,000 putting several older children through college and have no equity in their home, which is valued at about $1.2 million, according to the property website Zillow. She said she has little cash on hand and little saved for her daughter’s education…

Today, her daughter attends a private college on the West Coast which costs $65,000 in annual tuition, she said. The daughter received a $27,000 merit scholarship and an additional $20,000 in need-based aid, including a federal Pell grant, which she won’t have to pay back. The daughter is responsible for $18,000 a year, which her grandparents pay, the woman said.

Once the guardianship was established, the daughter’s household income for federal financial aid purposes was a scant $4,200. And really, what else could the family in this case do?

What’s that, you say? They could have sent their daughter to a state school instead? Well … yeah, I suppose they could have.

Or they could have asked each of their children to attend state schools so that there’d be money left over to pay the youngest’s tuition? I guess they could have done that too.

Or they could have sold their million-dollar home years ago in anticipation of another round of tuition, downsized to a smaller place, and applied the monthly savings in housing costs to a 529 account?

Also an option, I reckon.

The Department of Ed is reportedly looking at tightening the rule for guardianships so that students who continue to receive financial support from their parents after a guardianship has been granted would be treated as still belonging to their parents’ household for financial aid purposes. That’s good, but I wonder how easy it would be to skirt it. In one case described by Pro Publica, the guardianship lasted for just a month; presumably it’d be easy for some of these families to gift their kid with, say, six months’ of living expenses before a short-term guardianship so that no support needs to be provided afterwards.

Unanswered exit questions: Are these cases only happening in and around Chicago, which is the focus of the two pieces quoted above, or is it a national phenomenon? Should the feds be able to recover grant money awarded pursuant to a fraudulent guardianship?

John Solomon: Christopher Wray’s FBI is Fighting in Court to Cover For Team Comey’s Russia Hoax

Christopher Wray

Wray needs to go.

Christopher Wray’s FBI is fighting like hell in court to stop the public release of a number of documents the State Department sent to FBI agents from dossier author Christopher Steele.

The FBI argued in court that giving up the small number of documents will give up sources and methods to our enemies and terrorists.

“We know that terrorist organizations and other hostile or foreign intelligence groups have the capacity and ability to gather information from myriad sources, analyze it and deduce means and methods from disparate details to defeat the U.S. government’s collection efforts,” an FBI official swore in an affidavit supporting the request to keep the documents secret.

The FBI official argued against the conservative watchdog group Citizens United’s request to release the Kavalec memos and asserted, the FBI can’t afford to “jeopardize the fragile relationships that exist between the United States and certain foreign governments.”

In May, award-winning investigative journalist John Solomon obtained memos from a high-ranking government official who met with former British spy Christopher Steele in October of 2016, who determined that Steele’s ‘dirt’ on Trump was inaccurate and likely leaked to the media.

State Department official Kathleen Kavalec flagged this in memos and handwritten notes just 10 days before the first FISA warrant on Trump campaign advisor Carter Page was granted.

Multiple sources confirmed to John Solomon that Kavalec’s red flag on Steele was immediately sent to a senior FBI official.

The email from State Department official Kathleen Kavalec was sent to Special Agent Stephen Laycock (his name was initially redacted), then the FBI’s section chief for Eurasian counterintelligence, 8 days before the first FISA warrant was granted on Carter Page.

In November of 2018, FBI Director Christopher Wray named Stephen Laycock Assistant Director for the Directorate of Intelligence.

And now Wray’s FBI is fighting to keep these documents under wraps.

One of the documents Kavalec downloaded is about the conspiracy theory spread by the liberal media (and Hillary Clinton) that pings between Trump Tower server and Alfa Bank in Russia might be secret communications between Trump and Putin — of course this has been thoroughly debunked and even Mueller poured cold water on this story.

This story is not classified and has been discussed in a hearing by Mueller so why is the FBI hiding the documents?

Via John Solomon of The Hill:

And if that wasn’t enough, the bureau actually claimed that “FBI special agents have privacy interests from unnecessary, unofficial questioning as to the conduct of investigations and other FBI business.”

In other words, agents don’t want to have to answer to the public, which pays their salary, when questions arise about the investigative work, as has happened in the Russia case.

The FBI’s July 10 court filing speaks volumes about Director Christopher Wray’s efforts to thwart the public understanding of what really happened in the FBI’s now-debunked Russia collusion probe.

On its face, the FBI’s behavior in the Citizens United case isn’t about protecting national security secrets. It’s about protecting the bureau’s reputation from revelations its agents knew derogatory information about Steele and his work before they used his dossier to support a surveillance warrant targeting the Trump campaign and failed to disclose that information to the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (FISC).

DYS: Banning ‘In God We Trust’ From The Public Square Is ‘Ludicrous’

The good citizens of South Dakota have elected to adorn their public schools with the nation’s motto: “In God We Trust.” As you might expect, some still view those four words on anything public as an impermissible establishment of religion, a violation of the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. It is not.

Trump Supporters Shut Down Protesters at Speech Celebrating 400th Anniversary of Jamestown

Supporters of President Donald Trump shouted down a few protesters who disrupted his speech celebrating the 400th Anniversary of the Jamestown, Virginia settlement on Tuesday.

As the president spoke, a small group of protesters began shouting, “Mr. President, you can’t send us back! Virginia is our home!”

They were immediately booed by the crowd who shouted Trump! Trump! Trump! and quickly drowned out the protests.

During the speech, Trump praised the first men of the Virginia Company who founded the town of Jamestown despite incredible danger and suffering.

“They came in search of opportunity and fortune and they journeyed into the unknown with only meager supplies, long odds, and the power of their Christian faith,” he said.

He recalled that the population of 500 settlers sank to 60 people before they finally got new supplies and settlers to help them restore the town.

“Where others had typically perished, the Virginians were determined to succeed,” Trump said, praising the leadership of Captain John Smith.

He praised the hardworking culture the men built, establishing a charter of law in 1619 that became the basis for law on the continent.

But Trump also acknowledged the American experiment produced the English slave trade.

“It was the beginning of a barbaric trade in human lives,” he noted. “Today in honor, we remember every sacred soul who suffered the horrors of slavery and the anguish of bondage.”

The president recognized Virginia patriots George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, James Monroe, Patrick Henry, George Mason, George With, and Richard Henry Lee who helped found the United States.

“Self government in Virginia did not just give us a state we love, in a very true sense it gave us the country we love, the United States of America,” Trump said.

The president noted the traditions of law, religious freedom, and other Democratic values began in Jamestown.

“In America, we are not ruled from afar, Americans govern ourselves and so help us, God, we always will,” Trump said.
