Happy Brexit Day! Campaigners Celebrate Leaving EU After 47 Years

Nigel Farage has hailed today as a “massive victory for the people against the establishment” as the UK prepares to leave the EU at 11 pm.

“What happens tonight at 11 o’clock, we pass the point of no return,” Mr Farage said on Good Morning Britain on Friday. “Once we’re out, there’s no way this country will ever rejoin. This is a big moment in history.”

Other leading campaigners celebrated today, including Brexit Party chairman Richard Tice.

Brexit Party MEPs Claire Fox and Belinda de Lucy thanked activists and leave voters, with Ms de Lucy saying today “feels like we’ve stood on the shoulders of so many unsung heroes. Thank you SO much to all 17.4 million.”

Journalist and keen royalist Joseph Afrane, who is often seen at pro-Brexit rallies bedecked in patriotic suits, was out in Westminster today bidding “bye-bye EU”.

The Conservative government, which finally delivered Brexit after three and a half years since the vote, also marked today on Twitter, with Number 10 releasing a video celebrating that “today is the day the UK is leaving the EU.”

Some of the media splashed their front pages with celebrations of the historic day:

While Brexit campaigners like Patrick O’Flynn criticised the left-liberal Guardian for calling Britain a “small island” on their front page this morning, by quoting George Orwell who said: “England is perhaps the only great country whose intellectuals are ashamed of their own nationality.”

Brexit-supporting newspaper cartoonists also took the chance to mark Brexit Day, and mock those who tried to block it since 2016.

There was also congratulations from the U.S. ambassador to the UK Woody Johnson, who said: “You have no greater friend, ally, and partner than the United States.”

Horowitz: NY crime skyrockets, shootings up 60%, following prison reduction agenda

No ordinary citizen can legally carry a gun in New York City, yet shootings are up 59.6 percent over this time last year. On Sunday, a pregnant woman was shot while sitting in her own car in front of her home in Queens. This is becoming the new normal in New York after the memo has gone out to criminals in the city that politicians fear growing the prison population more than they fear crime.

According to NYPD crime data, in addition to the 59.6 percent spike in shootings over this time last year, robberies increased 32.8 percent and grand larceny auto crimes were up a whopping 62.8 percent. Burglaries rose by 17 percent. This is just for the first 26 days of 2020.

What gives? According to NYPD Commissioner Dermot Shea, it’s no mystery. It’s all about New York’s law abolishing bail. “If you let out individuals that commit a lot of crime, that’s precision policing in reverse and we’re seeing the effects in a very quick time,” Shea said at a press conference last Friday. He decried the undeniable “correlation” between the rise in crime and the jail and prison “populations dropping significantly.”

This is the other side of the criminal justice equation that politicians, including country club Republicans, refuse to recognize. As they are focused like a laser beam on reducing the prison population, they are ignoring the human nature of violent criminals. These criminals simply see no deterrent against their destructive behavior, and for good reason. Thus, whatever form of crime it is they like to engage in, they will continue repeating it until they are locked up. One criminal in Staten Island, who had a history of vehicle theft, was arrested for breaking into vehicles three times in three weeks. He was released every time!

The backward priorities of criminal over victim inherent in criminal justice “reform” are perhaps best reflected by an anecdote told by Commissioner Shea during last week’s press conference. Last week, a drunk driver slammed his minivan into a police officer who had pulled over another driver at the side of a road, catching the officer between his car and the officer’s car. “I stopped at the hospital the next day, right before he was wheeled into surgery,” related Shea in front of reporters last Friday. “He got out of the hospital today. Individual that did it was out [of jail] before him. I mean, something’s wrong with that picture. And not his first DWI arrest.”

With a rampant drug crisis raging, the worst drug traffickers face no deterrent. This week, six fentanyl traffickers working for Dominican cartel distributors, three of whom are in the country illegally, were released without bail. Over 1,400 people have died every year over the past few years as a result of drug overdoses in the big city.

Repeat armed robbers are being let out only to rob again. Then, once the criminals are out, they have no incentive to show up for their court date, and many are just ignoring the notices to appear. After all, what are the cops going to do to them?

The fact that criminals know the entire weight of the political universe is against incarceration these days is incentivizing them to victimize with impunity. New York’s experience is demonstrating that most people locked up are dangerous to society. When they are let loose, crime will go up. This is not about nonviolent, victimless crimes, as proponents of these “reforms” repeat ad nauseum.

The truth of the “reform” movement was boldly revealed last week by Danielle Sered, the head of one of these well-monied interests seeking to abolish the concept of incarceration. In an op-ed for USA Today titled, “To end mass incarceration, U.S. needs alternatives to prison for violent crimes,” Sered concedes that the entire narrative for jailbreak is built on a fallacy.

As consensus and momentum to end mass incarceration have grown, the reform narrative, though compelling, has been based on a fallacy: that the United States can achieve large-scale, transformative change by changing responses primarily to nonviolent offenses. That is impossible in a nation where 55% of people incarcerated in state prisons in 2016 (the latest available Bureau of Justice Statistics data) were convicted of violent crimes. To truly have an impact on mass incarceration, we need to reckon with that reality.

Indeed! As I’ve noted before, there are actually very few people in prison for nonviolent offenses, and in fact, there are hundreds of thousands of violent offenders who are not locked up. Sered lives in her own alternative reality of abolishing prison even with this in mind. But for the 90 percent of the country that doesn’t want that, they are seeing the reality of violent crime, undeterred, play out every day in New York. Prison culture ain’t pretty. But turning every American city into a violent prison is not an option.

Trump Sets up Task Force to Investigate Missing and Murdered Native Americans

President Donald Trump has tasked three members of his Cabinet to work together to investigate the high number of American Indians and Alaska Natives who have been murdered or gone missing.

The Department of the Interior, Department of Justice, and Department of Health and Human Services met as a task force for the first time on Wednesday, co-chaired by Secretary of the Interior David Bernhardt and Attorney General William Barr.

The task force “is composed of federal officials charged with enhancing the criminal justice response, consulting with tribal governments on potential solutions and empowering native communities with information,” a press release announcing the new campaign said.

“President Trump is committed to addressing systemic challenges in Indian Country, and this task force will develop and implement an aggressive, government-wide strategy to combat the crisis of missing and murdered American Indians and Alaska Natives,” Bernhardt said. “By working together and listening to impacted citizens and tribal communities, we intend to tackle these complex issues.”

“The disappearance and death of American Indian and Alaska Native people, particularly women and girls, is an especially tragic chapter in a long story of marginalization and trauma suffered by native people,” Barr said. “We are committed to addressing this challenge, to reducing the violence and protecting the vulnerable from exploitation and abuse.”

“The task force is eager to get to work to address the issues that underlie this terrible problem, and work with our tribal partners to find solutions, raise awareness, and bring answers and justice to the grieving,” Barr said.

“I am grateful that President Trump has made it a priority to tackle the tragic issue of missing and murdered American Indians and Alaska Natives,” HHS Secretary Alex Azar said. “Native Americans deserve safety and security in their communities, and HHS has a vital role in helping by providing culturally appropriate prevention and trauma informed services to victims and their families.”

“I am committed to working in partnership with President Trump, Attorney General Barr, Secretary Bernhardt, and tribal leaders and members to make a positive impact on this important challenge,” Azar said.

Trump has called the high rates of violence in the Native American community “sobering and heartbreaking.”

The task force, dubbed Operation Lady Justice, will “review Indian Country cold cases, to strengthen law enforcement protocols, and work with tribes to improve investigations, information sharing and a more seamless response to missing persons investigations.”

The announcement of the campaign detailed how the task force will address the issue:

  • Consult with tribal governments on the scope and nature of the problem and will hold regional consultations and listening sessions at several locations around the country;
  • Develop model protocols and procedures for addressing both new and unsolved cases of missing and murdered persons in tribal communities;
  • Establish a multi-disciplinary, multi-jurisdictional team, which will include tribal law enforcement, to review cold cases;
  • Address issues related to roles, authorities and jurisdiction among tribal, local, state and federal agencies; and
  • Develop and execute a public awareness, education and outreach campaign for affected communities.
  • The task force will host its first listening session at the National Congress of American Indians’ Executive Council Winter Session in Washington, D.C. on February 12.

Other members of the task force are Katharine Sullivan, principal deputy assistant attorney general; Tara Sweeney, assistant secretary for Indian Affairs at DOI; Terry Wade, executive assistant director, criminal, cyber, response and services branch at the FBI; Laura Rogers, acting director, Office on Violence Against Women; Charles Addington, deputy bureau director, Bureau of Indian Affairs, Office of Justice Services; Trent Shores, U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Oklahoma and chairman of the Native American Issues Subcommittee of the Attorney General’s Advisory Committee; and Jean Hovland, deputy assistant secretary for Native American affairs and commissioner, administration for Native Americans, Department of Health and Human Services.

“This initiative’s important to Indian Country and Alaska Native communities,” Sweeney told ABC News. “And if the current practice had been effective, we wouldn’t be here today.”

“Of almost 6,000 indigenous women reported missing in 2016, only 116 were logged into the Justice Department’s missing persons database, according to a report by the Urban Indian Health Institute,” ABC News reported.

As part of Trump’s executive order, Barr named Marcia Good of the Department of Justice as the executive director of the task force.

The task force will host its first listening session at the National Congress of American Indians’ Executive Council Winter Session in Washington, DC, on February 12.

The task force will issue a progress report to the president on Nov. 26, 2020, with a final report deadline of Nov. 26, 2021.

WATCH: The Pro-Life Ad That Won’t Air During The Super Bowl. An Ad Featuring Drag Queens Will.

According to the founder of Faces Of Choice, a pro-life organization that created a prospective ad for the Super Bowl featuring survivors of abortion, Fox, which is broadcasting the game, kept delaying her request to air the spot until they finally informed her that all the spots for commercials had been taken.

Lyric Gillett stated that she started negotiating with the network last July, as the Washington Times reported. A Fox spokesperson asserted that the network sold out its ad space long ago, saying, “Super Bowl LIV sold out at a record pace this year, and unfortunately we were unable to accommodate Faces of Choice and other advertisers.”

But Gillett countered that she had given the network storyboards and answered questions about her organization, only to have the sales division reply that the legal department would answer her by late November. She said, “Some individuals had apparently expressed that the sales division was not happy with the way the legal division was going in terms of not providing answers. So an executive flew up from New York and we were told Friday to expect an answer by Monday. Monday came along, we got no answer, and then found out that night that they were sold out.”

Gillett said that she asked the network to clear the ad just in case a spot opened up; she added that in mid-December she was informed an answer would come “very, very soon,” but none arrived. She stated, “It feels like the reason for that is they don’t want to, I guess in their minds, give a story that we were rejected. I guess that’s the reason behind it. Nothing else makes sense. But again, that’s unprofessional, and I don’t think that’s how they operate with other clients.”

Gillett said, “Every time we would meet a stipulation or request, it would morph into something different. I would send an email saying, ‘What else do you need to get some type of answer?’ Even if it’s a ‘no,’ we don’t want a ‘no,’ but at least we can have an answer. We never got that answer. So it’s just been a very frustrating experience.”

She added, “In an era where we’re trying to give survivors a voice, whether that is through the #MeToo movement or on any number of issues, for some reason we deem survivors of abortion worthy of being ignored into oblivion. That, to me, is both ironic but also just appalling.”

My Faith Votes has created a petition that states:

Choice is not merely a word. Choice is a person. For months, FOX TV and FOX Sports have been blocking Faces of Choice from airing an ad during Super Bowl Sunday telling the stories of abortion survivors. We have thousands of survivors of abortion in the United States, and their voices must not be silenced. Faces of Choice was told by Fox executives there weren’t any more slots available for a 30-second ad during Super Bowl Sunday, but we discovered that’s not true. There are ads spots still available.

Gillett concluded, “I would encourage people during the Super Bowl, if you’re willing, if you’re interested, to shut off the TV during the commercials and listen to their stories. Give them a voice.”

The Super Bowl is airing an ad from Sabra that features two drag queens, Kim Chi and Miz Cracker, from “RuPaul’s Drag Race.” Jason Levine, chief marketing officer for Sabra, said, “We’re bringing a diverse group of personalities to the table and demonstrating just how incredibly versatile, relevant and relatable hummus is today. We think we’ve got something for everyone,” reported Ad Week.

NBC News spoke to Bob Witeck, a marketing specialist who focuses on reaching LGBTQ audiences; he enthused that the drag queen ad was “revolutionary,” and chortled, “For queer audiences, it is an art form and an ‘outsiders’ language. Reaching the Super Bowl means taking our language into every home in the nation and millions around the world.”

Here’s the commercial from which the ad would be taken:

“A Deranged Human Being… Pathological Liar… Lied for Two-and-a-Half Years” – Newt Gingrich Says What Everyone Is Thinking About Adam Schiff

Former US Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich was on the Ingraham Angle on FOX News on Thursday night.  Newt said what we all have been thinking for some time about Democrat Rep. Adam Schiff.

Former Speaker Newt Gingrich talked about the Democrats unconstitutional impeachment this past week and in particular about Adam Schiff.  He said what we all are thinking.

Laura Ingraham: The man is pathological, it is a reflexive Pavlovian response to Trump. You have to just make stuff up. You can’t argue the case you have to make it up.

Newt Gingrich: I think it is also a comment on Schiff. I mean Schiff is obviously a person a deranged human being. This is about Schiff. You know, Schiff is a guy who is a pathological liar. He seems to have no ability to distinguish between the truth and falsehood. He lied for two-and-a-half years about the Russian collusion. It all disintegrated. You look like a fool, you learn nothing… And you’re right. Here we are at the end of a cycle and he goes back and decides to lie again. At some point people have to decide Adam Schiff is a compulsive, uncontrollable liar and should be dealt with that way.

That about sums it up.

The Collapse of a Society: Venezuelan State-Owned Oil Company Shuts Down Last Two Operating Refineries for Repairs — Socialism in Action

Paralyzed operations in Venezuela refineries

Paralyzed operations in Venezuela refineries
Venezuelan oil refineries were shut down this week.

PDVSA, the Venezuelan state-owned oil and natural gas company, shut down its last two operating refineries in Venezuela. The Amuay and the Cardon facilities at the Paraguana Refining Center the largest refining complex in Venezuela, were shut down earlier this week.

The news was first reported in a technical report  by S&P Global Platts.

Due to multiple failures and a lack of crude oil to process, the 645,000 barrel per day Amuay refinery was completely shut down Monday, with its five distillers out of service.

The 310,000 barrel per day Cardon refinery was shut down last Saturday for maintenance work on the Number 1 distiller, which had been operating at 50,000 barrels per day.

Venezuelan oil company officials have not wanted to offer statements to clarify the reasons for the stoppage of operation

A refinery operator at Amuay, who spoke to Platts on condition of anonymity, said it will take “maybe two or three more days” to restart Amuay and “a few weeks” for Cardon to be up and running because of the distiller repairs.

The deterioration of the refinery units, lack of light crude oil to process and the failures in the supply of electricity has caused the closure of other plants in the country. Fuel supply is a problem in some areas of the country despite the vast deposits of crude oil.

This is the Socialist model Democrats want to bring to America.

Pain, suffering, poverty and death.

Pro-Life Group Denied Ad by Fox, Responds with Powerful Request for Everyone Watching the Super Bowl

Faces of Choice, an awareness campaign featuring survivors of abortion, says Fox TV and Fox Sports refused to air its 30-second ad during the Super Bowl on Sunday.

Despite several attempts to reach out, the network has still not responded to the campaign or several media outlets seeking comment on its decision.

Now the campaign has started a petition in the hope that public pressure might bring an answer — any answer — from Fox and to continue to raise awareness of survivors’ stories.

“The purpose of Faces of Choice is to cast light and highlight a demographic of survivors that has gone unnoticed and ignored really for forever — those who survived abortions,” Lyric Gillett, the founder of Faces of Choice, told The Western Journal.

“Every great humanitarian effort of our era — the civil rights movement, all of these different things — all actually made change because of the faces and the voices of the actual survivors that were attached to them. …

“I think as humans what we do is we tend to try to separate the humanity from things that make us uncomfortable, and that truly is what has been happening for decades with the issue of the preborn. God really gave me the understanding that the key to changing the conversation — the key to creating a paradigm shift in this country — is for people to understand that choice is not merely a word, choice is a person, and so what I want to do is flip the word ‘choice’ on its head.”

Through Faces of Choice, Gillett hopes to share survivors’ stories to show people that the “choice” for which so many activists and political candidates campaign has a face and a life attached to it.

Even though the organization was given the opportunity to share an advertisement at the March for Life in Washington on Jan. 24, Gillett told The Western Journal that securing a spot during the Super Bowl would’ve been an opportunity to share the organization’s message with those who don’t already agree with it.

She said it would’ve been an opportunity to make a real change.

“I want to reach people who may not even really think about this kind of thing normally, because words and meaning and culture, that has the power to change the dynamic shift and understanding about what’s going on,” she said.

The 30-second ad Gillett hoped to air during the Super Bowl featured several abortion survivors with a simple message: “Can you look me in the eye and tell me and tell me I shouldn’t be alive? Can you tell me that I didn’t deserve to survive? One reality binds us together. One event we all share. One choice tried to steal our lives, but we survived. We are the faces of choice.”

Faces of Choice first made contact with Fox Sports on July 29 in regard to ad space during the Super Bowl, according to Gillett.

Despite the early start, she said, the network’s legal team continued to come back with more and more requirements and tasks, which continually delayed its clearance for securing the desired ad space.

Gillett said the exchanges with the network lasted from July until late November, when the campaign learned the ad space during the Super Bowl had been completely filled.

“Just to give an idea, we talked to ABC about the Oscars and they responded to us within 24 hours, we got an answer from them,” she said. “That is standard business practice. That is the proper and appropriate way to actually deal with people in a professional and dignified way, and I do not feel that Fox has done that.”

Faces of Choice, however, had not lost hope. It knew more spots would open up, either from people dropping out or from new spots being generated by the network. The campaign continued to push the network to clear its ad in case spots opened, but it was only met with more red tape.

Surely enough, five new spots opened in January, but Gillett said Fox refused to cooperate with the campaign to be prepared for those spots to open.

Once she found out that the new spots had opened and she had not received word from the network, Gillett reached out to Jason Yates, the founder of My Faith Votes, through a mutual connection and began the petition to ask Fox TV and Fox Sports to air the ad — or to at least give the campaign a definitive answer.

“All we’re asking is for you to give us an answer,” she said, as if speaking to the network directly. “Either clear us and let us walk into that or give us the dignity of a no. We’re an adult, we can handle a no. We’re not going to go home and cry, but at least be professional and operate according to the standard business practice of giving us an actual answer.”

According to Yates, nearly 100,000 emails have been sent to Fox TV and Fox Sports since the petition’s launch, but the television network has yet to respond.

The Western Journal has also reached out to Fox Sports and has not yet received an answer.

The only response the network has seemingly given was to The Washington Times: “Super Bowl LIV sold out at a record pace this year, and unfortunately we were unable to accommodate Faces of Choice and other advertisers,” a representative said.

Gillett called that “the most asinine statement” she has ever heard.

“We’ve been working with them from July, when we first made our application, all the way through till the end of November, when they supposedly sold out, and yet from July to November they sold out at a ‘record pace’? Really?” she asked. “And they were ‘unable to accommodate’ us? Really?”

Gillett believes the network is afraid of the media backlash that could ensue if it directly rejected Faces of Choice’s advertisement.

“To deny this ad is nonsensical. I think that they know that and I think that they know that rejecting this with an actual declarative ‘no’ statement would not be good press for them, and so that, to me, is the motivation for them stringing us along and creating a purported sellout situation so they could release the kind of topsy-turvy, nonsensical statement that they did,” she said.

Yancy agrees with Gillett’s opinion that Fox has intentionally avoided giving an explicit answer.

Nevertheless, he said he is proud to help her raise awareness to a cause that he believes is crucial for Christian voters to be aware of.

“I’m extremely impressed with Lyric and what she’s doing and how she’s trying to bring awareness to a group of survivors that have really gone unnoticed and she’s trying to elevate the voice of a group that has been suppressed. … She’s doing an incredible job of helping bring their voices to light and shine a light on the impact of abortion.”

He added, “Right now, one of the most important issues for any Christian in coming to the ballot box is that of life, and when we look at the issue of life, there has never before been such a stark contrast between political candidates on such an important issue — the issue of life. And what we’re trying to do is come along Faces of Choice to bring awareness to the consequences and impacts of abortion and help raise the issue so that Christians truly understand what’s at stake when they enter the ballot box and the impact of the choices they make.”

Gillett has asked anyone reading this article who feels so moved to consider doing two things: First, go to the petition page and sign it. Second, if you’re going to watch the Super Bowl, during commercial breaks, turn off the television and instead watch Faces of Choice’s videos on YouTube.

“Our YouTube channel has the stories of these survivors — the stories of Melissa Ohden burning in the salt solution, of Imre Téglásy, who survived multiple abortions in Hungary, and just one incredible story after another — more than enough time to fill up the time you would normally be watching the commercials,” she said.

“If you are upset by what has transpired … I would simply ask that people shut off the commercials and instead go watch these stories of survival.”

Gillett said Fox Sports and Fox TV’s decision only highlights a pattern Faces of Choice is trying to break — the pattern of silencing survivors’ voices.

“These individuals have, from the very beginnings of their lives, people trying to steal their voices, to literally take away their breath and their lives, and now again they’re having their voices stolen from them,” she said.

“We are in an era where we are trying to highlight survivors, whether it’s through #MeToo or any other number of movements, and yet somehow we have determined that it is acceptable for us to ignore abortion survivors into oblivion.”
