Trump: Domestic Travel Ban Within U.S. a ‘Possibility’ to Fight Coronavirus

President Trump says a domestic travel ban within the United States is “a possibility” to fight the spread of the coronavirus from Wuhan, China.

While answering questions at the White House on Thursday, Trump said he was not ruling out a plan to implement a domestic travel ban to stop state-to-state transmissions of the coronavirus.

The exchange went as follows:

REPORTER: Are you considering travel restrictions within the United States, such as to Washington State or California? [Emphasis added]

TRUMP: We haven’t discussed that yet. Is it a possibility? Yes. If somebody gets a little bit out of control, if an area gets too hot. You see what they’re doing in New Rochelle, which is — which is good, frankly. It’s the right thing. But then it’s not enforced, it’s not very strong but people know that they’re being watched … New Rochelle, that’s a hotspot. [Emphasis added]

Trump’s reference was to New Rochelle in Westchester County, New York — just above Manhattan — where neighborhoods have been under quarantine and where the U.S. National Guard has been sent in to enforce travel restrictions.

(Screenshot via New York Times)

The remarks come as a passenger traveling from John F. Kennedy (JFK) Airport in New York City tested positive for the coronavirus upon landing in Palm Beach, Florida. The nation’s leading health experts have said containing migration and travel to and within the U.S. is critical to stopping the spread of the coronavirus.

Already, Trump has issued travel bans on China, Iran, and the continent of Europe. The travel ban on Europe, to be implemented this week, will ensure that European residents and recent travelers to Europe are not readily able to land in the U.S.

In the U.S., there have been more than 1,400 confirmed cases of the coronavirus and 38 deaths.

Meghan McCain: Coronavirus Could Be ‘Silver Bullet That Takes Out This Administration’

Thursday on ABC’s “The View,” co-host Meghan McCain suggested President Donald Trump’s coronavirus response “could be the silver bullet that takes out this administration.”

McCain said, “The problem is when I watched it live like we all did, is he’s a politician that inspires anger really well. If you want to get riled up and angry, he’s a politician who does it well. The I feel your pain and fear, incapable of it. He could have been reading the phonebook last night. He should have been saying, I understand Americans are scared. Have a Ronald Reagan-esque moment. His inability to emote with the American people about how scary this is, and people at this point I can safely say there’s a lot of healthy fear— there’s a Quinnipiac poll that came out that says 56% see Joe Biden as a leader in crisis. I think this crisis has really shown it doesn’t matter at the end of the day how great the economy is, which by the way, 82% of his financial gains since he has been president have officially evaporate evaporated.”

She continued, “You want your leader to reassure you, and to say he didn’t do that for me last night is putting it very lightly.”

She added, “Part of the problem right now is that when you traffic in lies and misinformation for a long period of time, the chicken’s coming home to roost right now with a lot of Americans on both sides.”

She concluded, “To lie about a rallies or numbers or how big your hands are these are an entirely different thing than lying about a possibly lethal disease that can kill God knows how many Americans. I think for him, he and Jared and Ivanka and the entire White House should know this could be the silver bullet that takes out this administration. I don’t mean that literally so everybody calm down.”

Bazooka Fired: Fed Unleashes $1.5 Trillion Repo Bailout, Expands “Not QE” To QE5

Bazooka Fired: Fed Unleashes $1.5 Trillion Repo Bailout, Expands "Not QE" To QE5

After increases in its repo facility twice already this week, from $100billion to $150billion to $175billion per day, and adding added a new 1-month term repo facility, the New York Fed just stunned the market and fired its biggest bazooka since Lehman (not coincidentally, just moments before today’s 30Y Treasury auction, as a failed auction would mean, well, game over), by announcing a total of $1 trillion in 3-month repos over two days ($500BN today, $500BN tomorrow), as well as an additional $500BN in one-month repos offered weekly, which means up to $3 trillion in cumulative repos (if fully allotted) may be online by the end of the month.

But wait, there’s more, because the fed also finally threw in the towel on the semantics bullshit it was pulling since Sept 2019 by pretending that "QE" is "NOT QE", when it officially expanded not-QE/QE4 to Q5, when it announced it would start purchasing coupon Treasuries as part of its POMO operations, which as a reminder, was the official trigger transforming Not QE into QE .

For some context of how that compares to what they have been doing, assuming full allotment on the 2 $500BN repos…

Full Statement by NYFed:

The Open Market Trading Desk (the Desk) at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York has released a new monthly schedule of Treasury securities operations and has updated the current monthly schedule of repurchase agreement (repo) operations.  Pursuant to instruction from the Chair in consultation with the FOMC, adjustments have been made to these schedules to address temporary disruptions in Treasury financing markets.  The Treasury securities operation schedule includes a change in the maturity composition of purchases to support functioning in the market for U.S. Treasury securities.  Term repo operations in large size have been added to enhance functioning of secured U.S. dollar funding markets.

  • As a part of its $60 billion reserve management purchases for the monthly period beginning March 13, 2020 and continuing through April 13, 2020, the Desk will conduct purchases across a range of maturities to roughly match the maturity composition of Treasury securities outstanding.  Specifically, the Desk plans to distribute reserve management purchases across eleven sectors, including nominal coupons, bills, Treasury Inflation-Protected Securities, and Floating Rate Notes. The distribution of purchases across sectors will be the same distribution as the Desk uses to reinvest principal payments from the Federal Reserve’s holdings of agency debt and agency MBS in Treasury securities.  The first such purchases will begin tomorrow, March 13, 2020.

  • Today, March 12, 2020, the Desk will offer $500 billion in a three-month repo operation at 1:30 pm ET that will settle on March 13, 2020.

  • Tomorrow, the Desk will further offer $500 billion in a three-month repo operation and $500 billion in a one-month repo operation for same day settlement.

  • Three-month and one-month repo operations for $500 billion will be offered on a weekly basis for the remainder of the monthly schedule.

  • The Desk will continue to offer at least $175 billion in daily overnight repo operations and at least $45 billion in two-week term repo operations twice per week over this period.

These changes are being made to address highly unusual disruptions in Treasury financing markets associated with the coronavirus outbreak. Reserve management purchases into the second quarter will continue to be conducted with this maturity allocation. The terms of operations will be adjusted as needed to foster smooth Treasury market functioning and efficient and effective policy implementation.

Finally, for those looking forward to the official return of QE, i.e., the monetization of coupons in addition to Bills, here is the Fed’s full monetization schedule.

Some parting thoughts following this historic announcement: this was by far the biggest bazooka the Fed has fired since the financial crisis, and… it may not be enough. In fact, stocks are still deep in the red, which means one of two things:

  1. i) The Fed’s credibility is now shattered
  2. The market expects a fiscal bailout, or some MMT-esque combination of both.

Until and unless the markets gets what it needs, the Fed is now a sideshow and in fact, if this bazooka fails, Powell may consider submitting his resignation this week.

REPORT: Demon Pelosi Pushed to Include Federal Funding For Abortion Into Coronavirus Response Bill

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi pushed to include a way to guarantee federal funding for abortion into the Coronavirus response bill.

According to the Daily Caller, White House officials alleged Pelosi tried to sneak in several provisions that favored Democrats and stalled bipartisan efforts during her negotiations with Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin.

Speaking to the Daily Caller, those officials alleged that while negotiating the stimulus with U.S. Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin, Pelosi tried to lobby for “several” provisions that stalled bipartisan commitment to the effort. One was a mandate for up to $1 billion to reimburse laboratory claims, which White House officials say would set a precedent of health spending without protections outlined in the Hyde Amendment.

The Hyde Amendment blocks clinics that perform abortions from receiving federal funding, and Democrats have pushed the Trump administration to end it since he was elected in 2016.

“A new mandatory funding stream that does not have Hyde protections would be unprecedented,” one White House official explained. “Under the guise of protecting people, Speaker Pelosi is working to make sure taxpayer dollars are spent covering abortion — which is not only backwards, but goes against historical norms.”

Politico reported that the Hyde Amendment provision was removed from the Coronavirus response bill.

The two sides resolved issues over federal funding of abortion in a separate bill that will also hit the floor, Politico reported.

Tyrant Pelosi on Thursday made it clear during her weekly presser that it’s her way or nothing when it comes to addressing the Coronavirus.

Pelosi smacked her hand on the lectern as she told reporters that she is not willing to negotiate with Republicans and work with them on a Coronavirus response bill.

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy pushed back on Pelosi and let her know the Republicans were not going to support a Coronavirus bill that included federal funding for abortion and other left-wing causes.

A “my way or the highway” approach is not the right way to handle a serious health epidemic, McCarthy said.

Never forget that Nancy Pelosi held up a vote on Coronavirus two weeks ago so that Democrats could run ads against Republicans on Super Tuesday.

Then she tried to ram federal funding for abortion into an important Coronavirus bill — Pelosi is truly evil.

Biden Deploys Debunked Attack in Attempt to Capitalize on Coronavirus

Presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden is working to capitalize on President Donald Trump’s management of the coronavirus crisis, accusing the Trump administration of "severe shortcomings" in its response to the pandemic.

But Biden deployed an already-debunked Democratic talking point in Thursday remarks aimed at showcasing his own ability to lead the country through the crisis. The former vice president falsely stated that the Trump administration has cut investments in global health, a claim the Washington Post’s fact checker rated "Three Pinocchios" just days ago.

"By cutting our investment in global health, this administration has left us woefully unprepared for the exact crisis we now face," Biden said in his address. The attack mirrored a February tweet from Sen. Chris Murphy (D., Conn.) that accused Trump of shutting down "37 of 47 global anti-pandemic programs."

Both Biden and Murphy were referring to the Global Health Security Agenda (GHSA), which the United States helped fund through a $600 million supplemental package to the CDC in 2015. As the initial funding dwindled in early 2018, reports emerged suggesting the Trump administration would scale back GHSA operations in all but 10 countries. But the cuts never happened, and the Trump administration’s proposed 2021 budget includes an increase in the GHSA’s annual appropriation.

"Murphy jumped to conclusions, assuming the funding reductions had gone into effect and the programs in nearly 40 countries were closed," the Post wrote in March. "But that’s not correct.… The Trump administration backed off and now appears to fully support GHSA."

The Biden campaign did not respond to a request for comment.

The Trump administration’s requested CDC funding in 2021 includes $175 million for global health security, up from $125 million in 2020. The CDC currently operates in more than 60 countries under its current funding, and the Trump administration committed to extending GHSA funding beyond 2021.

"To ensure these successes continue their trajectory and maintain momentum, the administration has affirmed its commitment to strengthening global health security and fully supports the next phase, the GHSA 2024," the White House budget proposal states.

In his address, Biden appeared to attack the Trump administration for general cuts in CDC funding, saying, "Our government’s ability to respond effectively has been undermined by hollowing out our agencies." But the Obama administration also proposed cuts to the CDC’s budget before the 2014 Ebola outbreak. According to the CDC, Obama requested $4.99 billion in 2013 CDC funding, down from $6.31 billion in 2010, $6.26 billion in 2011, and $5.81 billion in 2012.

Biden also called for measures to fight the coronavirus that the Trump administration has already adopted. The former vice president called the administration’s effort to test for the virus a failure, adding that "Anyone who needs to be tested based on medical guidance should be tested at no charge." The White House on Tuesday announced that insurance companies would waive all copays on coronavirus testing.

‘Buy American!’ President Trump To Sign Executive Order Ending Reliance On Chinese Medical Supplies

President Donald Trump is expected to sign an executive order Thursday “insisting on American-made medical supplies and pharmaceuticals in response to the coronavirus outbreak,” according to Fox News.

He will also direct his cabinet to improve the availability of industrial single-use face masks and general-use respirators to health care professionals who have, in recent days, had to rely on commercially available face masks or resort to re-using masks that are supposed to be for one-time use only. The measure comes, Becker’s Hospital Review reports, “as health systems around the country grapple with dwindling supplies of protective N95 face masks, which filter out about 95 percent of all airborne particles.”

“President Trump is focused on the health of the American people, and so his administration has taken action to provide protection to manufacturers that will enable production of millions of additional masks for our healthcare providers,” a memo from the White House, released following the president’s address from the Oval Office Wednesday night, read.

Although details of the executive order are scarce, Sen. Marco Rubio told Fox News that the measure is “a very strong first step toward increasing domestic production by enforcing Buy American requirements for pharmaceuticals and medical supplies, as well as fast-tracking approval” from the Federal Food and Drug Administration for coronavirus tests, treatments, medications, and other assorted needs.

The Associated Press adds that the measure is designed to help lessen American reliance on Chinese manufacturers for much-needed medical supplies.

“China is a key supplier of drug active ingredients, the chemical components that make drugs work, and finished medicines for the U.S. market,” AP said. “Those include the active ingredients for antibiotics and pills to treat common chronic conditions such as heart disease.”

Many of those “active ingredients” are eventually shipped to places like India, where they are made into medication, which is then sent to the United States. The supply chain does keep some costs down but in a global pandemic — particularly one that originates in China or southeast Asia — it can make necessary goods scarce.

Right now, U.S. efforts are focused on certain forms of antibiotics, anti-viral medications, and respiratory treatments, “all of which are used for supportive care of patients with coronavirus symptoms, because there is no approved medicine to treat the virus.”

“China has managed to dominate all aspects of the supply chain using the same unfair trade practices that it has used to dominate other sectors — cheap sweatshop labor, lax environmental regulations and massive government subsidies,” White House Director of Trade and Manufacturing Policy Peter Navarro told The New York Times Wednesday. “As President Trump has said, what we need to do is bring those jobs home so that we can protect the public health and the economic and national security of the country.”

Congress has also formed a “supply chain caucus” which, they say, will help “strengthen and add resiliency to protect the delivery system, which can be severely harmed by geopolitical events such as the recent coronavirus outbreak that has had significant impacts on global supply chains,” according to a statement from the panel released earlier this week.

Trump: Pelosi’s Coronavirus Bill Stuffed with Unrelated ‘Goodies’ for Democrats

President Donald Trump said he did not support the proposed emergency funding bill by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi released on Wednesday night to fight the coronavirus.

When asked by reporters if he supported the bill, Trump replied, “No, because there are things that are in there that have nothing to do with what we are talking about.”

Pelosi and House Democrats rushed to release a bill on Wednesday night at 11:00 p.m. that was about 124 pages long. The bill did not address issues that the president asked for, including a payroll tax cut. But Trump indicated that Democrats were using the crisis to push through partisan proposals.

“It’s not a way for them to get some of the goodies that they haven’t been able to get for the past 25 years,” Trump said.

Speaker Pelosi said Thursday during a press conference that it was imperative to get a bill passed as soon as possible to help American families suffering the economic disruption

But negotiations continue, as Pelosi said that she was continuing to speak to Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin.

She noted that the White House requests for changes to the bill were “all very reasonable.”

Trump said he would remain at the White House as the fight against the spread of coronavirus continued.

“I want to be here,” he said.

11 Examples of Bloomberg’s Folly on Defensive Gun Use

Earlier this month, former New York City Mayor Michael
Bloomberg was
asked how he justified
his push for more stringent gun control
when he is guarded by an armed security detail.

Bloomberg’s response? He is a wealthy businessman and politician who faces threats that normal Americans do not, so it’s just fine for him to pay others to protect him with guns that he’d put the rest of us in prison for possessing.

The reality is that Bloomberg, as a wealthy white man living
in upper-class neighborhoods, is statistically far less likely to be a victim
of violent crime than most other Americans.

But you’d never know it from the way he spends hundreds
of millions of dollars advocating gun laws that reserve armed protection for
the special few.

Every day, many Americans without Bloomberg’s wealth and
power rely on the Second Amendment—not private security—to defend themselves against
threats to their lives and livelihoods. In fact, almost every major study on
defensive gun use has found that Americans use their firearms defensively
between 500,000 and 3 million times each year.

Last year, The Daily Signal began a monthly series
highlighting just some of the countless times that the right to keep and bear
arms made all the difference for ordinary Americans whom Michael Bloomberg
wants to disarm. (You can read the stories from January
2020 here
.)

February similarly provided ample evidence in favor of an
armed citizenry and against Bloomberg’s claim that only the select few can be
trusted with guns.

  • Feb. 2, Arlington, Texas:  An armed neighbor came to the rescue of an elderly woman who was being attacked by pit bulls, pulling the dogs off her and shooting one of them when it continued its attack, police said. The woman survived, but suffered serious bite injuries to her head and neck. Other neighbors, alerted by the gunshot, soon arrived to help tend to the woman’s injuries and stop the bleeding.
  • Feb. 4, Spotsylvania County, Virginia:  When a neighbor called for help after discovering a man in the process of burglarizing her car, a good Samaritan and his wife jumped into action, pulling their vehicle in front of the fleeing thief and yelling at him to stop. Police said the thief drew a firearm, but the good Samaritan also was armed and shot him once in the leg. Police charged the man with several offenses, including brandishing a firearm and petit larceny.
  • Feb. 8, St. Mary’s, Ohio:  A woman shot and killed her husband during a domestic dispute in which he physically assaulted her and threatened to stab her with a knife, police said. The woman immediately called 911 and told a dispatcher: “He was beating me. He was going to kill me. He had a knife.” Although police initially took the woman into custody, her arrest photo shows clear injuries to her face and neck consistent with self-defense. A grand jury declined to indict the woman.
  • Feb. 8, West Salem, Ohio:  When a pitchfork-wielding man tried to kick in his door, a homeowner grabbed his handgun and held the man at gunpoint until police arrived. Police discovered that, in addition to the pitchfork, the man had a loaded firearm, drugs, and a wallet belonging to another homeowner in the neighborhood. Police charged the intruder with burglary and said he is a suspect in several other armed offenses in the area.
  • Feb. 12, Yellow Springs, California:  A well-known Hollywood stuntwoman and her husband attempted to ambush the stuntwoman’s ex-husband and his new wife outside the ex-husband’s home, police said. The ex-husband got out of his car to get his mail when the stuntwoman and her husband opened fire on the couple with multiple guns. The ex-husband, however, was a concealed carry permit holder and armed. He returned fire, ultimately killing both attackers
  • Feb. 14, Palm Bay, Florida:  A man used his firearm to defend himself and his girlfriend from the woman’s armed ex-boyfriend, who attacked them in their home on Valentine’s Day. Police said the ex-boyfriend stole a handgun from a friend’s mother, shattered the couple’s glass door, and threatened them with the handgun. The woman hid with her young son in a bedroom as her boyfriend retrieved his own gun and got into a shootout with the ex-boyfriend. Both men were wounded, and the ex-boyfriend fled, police said. They arrested him when he checked himself into a hospital; he faces several felony charges, including attempted murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
  • Feb. 18, Spencer County, Kentucky:  A man returned home in the early afternoon to discover an intruder inside. He confronted the intruder, ultimately shooting and killing him in self-defense.
  • Feb. 22, Allouez, Wisconsin:  A concealed carry permit holder used his firearm to defend himself from a robber without firing a single round, police said. The permit holder was plowing snow when a man approached, held a large knife to his chest, and demanded money. The permit holder said he would get his wallet from his truck. He retrieved his firearm from the door frame, and the would-be robber fled when he saw it.
  • Feb. 24, Elmore County, Alabama: A homeowner used his handgun to defend his wife and young child during a confrontation with an irate neighbor. The neighbor—who had previous confrontations with others in the neighborhood—began banging on the homeowner’s door at 4:55 a.m. When the homeowner answered, police said, the neighbor shouted expletives and tried to rob him. The homeowner, fearing his neighbor was reaching for a gun, shot him several times in self-defense, wounding him.
  • Feb. 27, Chicago:  A concealed carry permit holder defended herself from a robber who pulled a gun on her and demanded her property. The woman retrieved her own handgun and exchanged fire with the robber as he fled.
  • Feb. 29, Greensboro, North Carolina:  A customer with a concealed firearm thwarted an armed robbery at a convenience store, potentially saving the lives of several customers and employees. Police said he robber forced all of those in the store to huddle behind the register and held them at gunpoint. About 30 seconds later, an unsuspecting elderly woman entered. The robber grabbed her by the neck and forced her back to the register area with the other customers. Amid the distraction, the armed customer drew his firearm and shot the robber several times, killing him.

Michael Bloomberg is more than wealthy enough to afford to
pay armed men to protect him. Most Americans are not so fortunate.

We don’t have former law enforcement officers on hand
when the convenience store we’re in gets robbed. We can’t rely on an armed
detail to jump to our defense when we’re assaulted. We don’t live in gated
communities with 24/7 security.

We have only our Second Amendment rights. And they are
worth insisting upon.

Trump Suspends Travel From Europe, Offers Financial Aid for Coronavirus

President Donald Trump announced the United States will suspend travel from most of Europe for 30 days beginning Friday to help halt the spread of the coronavirus.

Trump also unveiled some executive actions and several high-dollar spending measures that he is asking Congress to enact. His announcement Wednesday night came hours after the World Health Organization declared the new coronavirus to be a pandemic.

“Smart action today will prevent the spread of the virus tomorrow,” Trump said in a prime-time address to the nation from the Oval Office.

He later added: “We made a lifesaving move with early action on China. Now we must take the same action with Europe. We must not delay.”

As of Wednesday, there are 938 cases of coronavirus disease, or COVID-19, in the United States across 38 states and the District of Columbia, with 29 deaths, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Actor Tom Hanks and his wife, actress Rita Wilson, announced they have coronavirus. And the NBA suspended games after a Utah Jazz player tested positive.

Trump noted that the United States quickly suspended travel from China after the outbreak of coronavirus in Wuhan spread. However, he said the European Union “failed to take the same precaution.”

As a result, the virus came from Europe into the United States through travelers, the president said.

“After consulting with our top government health professionals, I have decided to take several strong but necessary options to protect the health and well-being of all Americans,” Trump said.

He added:

To keep new cases from entering our shores, we will be suspending all travel from Europe to the United States for the next 30 days. The new rules will go into effect Friday at midnight. These restrictions will be adjusted, subject to conditions on the ground. There will be exemptions for Americans who have undergone appropriate screenings.

Trump said the restrictions won’t apply to the United Kingdom.

The president also announced financial assistance measures he has touched on previously.

“To ensure working Americans can stay home without fear of financial hardship, I will soon be taking emergency action which is unprecedented to provide financial relief,” Trump said. “This will be targeted for workers who are ill, quarantined, or caring for others due to coronavirus. I will be asking Congress to take legislative action to extend this relief.”

In a call for calm as the markets have rumbled, Trump said: “This is not a financial crisis. This is just a temporary moment of time that we will overcome together as a nation and as a world.”

Trump talked about eliminating the payroll tax, which he’ll have to rely on Congress for.

“I am calling on Congress to provide Americans with immediate payroll tax relief. Hopefully they will consider this every strongly,” he said.

He also announced Small Business Administration loans to firms affected by coronavirus.

“These low-interest loans will help small businesses overcome temporary economic disruptions caused by the virus,” Trump said. “To this end, I am asking Congress to increase funding for this program by an additional $50 billion.”

The president added that the Treasury Department will defer tax payments without interest or penalty for certain individuals or businesses.

“This action will provide more than $200 billion of additional liquidity to the economy,” he said.

Since When Are Viruses Racist?

In the identity politics world of the progressive left, everything is racist. Using the pseudo-concept of intersectionality, all grievance groups overlap, except the groups of white, male, Christian, and heterosexual. The intersectionality of those four groups represents the ultimate in racism and bigotry, the scourge of civilization.

In this mindset, it makes perfect sense for inanimate objects to be labeled as racist. For example, a “black hole” is now considered by some to be a racist term. Perhaps we should use “singularity,” since it’s so much easier for the average person to understand.

Cold weather, air, dogs, solar eclipses, and farmers markets are also considered racist to the woke progressives. So, it’s no surprise that something so small that it cannot be seen with an ordinary microscope is also said to be racist.

I speak of a virus, the “Wuhan virus,” to be specific. Or the “Chinese Coronavirus” to use another term. This virus is busy causing not a mass epidemic, but mass hysteria, leading people to empty store shelves of toilet paper and hand sanitizer. Also known as COVID-19, the Wuhan virus, like so many of its predecessors, is named based on where it was first identified, in this case, Wuhan, China.

In an intellectually functional society, claiming a virus name is racist would be nonsensical. But in America, where thoughtful discussion is replaced by cliched outrage and common sense has been relegated to history books, the name “Wuhan virus” has become the latest trigger for the left.

One of our congressional thought leaders, Rep. Ilhan Omar, tweeted out an accusation of racism after Rep. Kevin McCarthy referred to the virus as “Chinese Coronavirus.” Isn’t that where the virus originated? It’s not the Swedish or Bolivian Coronavirus.

Rep. Omar had no similar outrage when a New York Times editorial writer called it the “Trumpvirus.” President Trump didn’t create the virus and it didn’t originate from one of his properties, but instead came from China. What’s wrong with calling it what it is?

Speaking of the New York Times, they piled on as well, complaining that conservatives calling it the Wuhan virus is not only racist, but also xenophobic. How long until someone adds homophobic or sexist to the criticism?

Predictably CNN joined the chorus claiming “racism and xenophobia.” Salon was close behind with their caterwauling, “the racist art of naming a virus.”

Viruses are tiny inanimate objects, consisting of a few strands of DNA or RNA, surrounded by a protein coat, measuring around 100 nanometers in size.

They don’t wear white robes or march for “viral supremacy.” They infect individuals of all races, colors, sexes, religions, and national origin. Viruses don’t care where you were born. They aren’t concerned over what bathroom you prefer to use. Viruses don’t give a whit about your political party membership or whether you believe the earth is flat.

Virus are among the least racist objects in our world. Yet in the left’s wokeness, virus names are racist. How have past viruses and similar infectious diseases been named?

The Spanish flu of 1918-20 did not originate in Spain, but was first reported by Spain as they were neutral in World War I. But the name stuck and wasn’t considered racist.

Rubella, also known as German measles, is a viral infection first described by a German physician in 1740, thus the name. Angela Merkel is a woke EU politician, but I haven’t heard her complain that German measles is racist or xenophobic.

The Ebola virus was first discovered in 1976 near the Ebola River in the Democratic Republic of Congo and was appropriately named after where it was found.

A hemorrhagic fever virus similar to Ebola named Marburg was first recognized in 1967 in of all places, Marburg, Germany.

MERS is the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome, first reported in Saudi Arabia. When discovered in 2012 during the Obama administration, I don’t recall cries of racism or Islamophobia because the virus was identified with the Middle East, where it first appeared.

The bubonic plague, technically a bacterial, not a viral, infection from the 14th century was called “black death” because black spots formed on the skin of those infected. Imagine if Don Lemon or Al Sharpton were alive then and how they would howl over the name “black death.”

Swine flu, also known as H1N1, from 2009, was so named because people who caught it had direct contact with pigs. The animal rights groups were not offended at the time or hollering about “speciesism” over the use of the term “swine.” What would they say about “bird flu” or “chickenpox”?

Smallpox is another horrific virus called “small” to distinguish it from syphilis, or the “great pox.” How long until short people cry “heightism” and claim the name “small” is discriminatory?

Remember the Zika virus? This was discovered in 1947 in the Zika Forest in Uganda and named accordingly.

Lyme disease, not a virus but instead a bacterial infection passed on through tick bites, was first recognized in 1975 after a number of children developed arthritis. Where were these children living at the time? Lyme, Connecticut, hence the name Lyme disease.

Let’s continue. West Nile virus was first isolated in a woman in the West Nile district of Uganda in 1937 and was named as such.

Rift Valley fever is a viral infection affecting humans and animals. It was first identified in 1931 as a sheep epidemic on a farm in the Rift Valley in Kenya, hence the name.

Then there is Rocky Mountain spotted fever, not a virus, but like Lyme disease, a tickborne disease first recognized in 1986 in the Snake River Valley of Idaho — which just so happens to be in the Rocky Mountains.

Colorodans are sufficiently woke to have selected Bernie Sanders in the Democrat primary, but none are complaining about this infectious disease being named after their home in the Rocky Mountains.

Many diseases and infections are named after who discovered them or where they were discovered. It’s as simple as that. Wuhan virus originated in Wuhan, not Tokyo, not Bangkok. To claim the name is racist is silly.

Big media is pushing the story that, “Republicans face backlash over racist labeling of coronavirus.” But the reality is that this current viral outbreak started in Wuhan, China. The left deserves the backlash over shaming the country over politically correct nonsense.

Calling it the Wuhan virus is accurate and scientifically appropriate, but certainly not racist.
