Horowitz: Litigation invasion: Losing our border one lawsuit at a time

Imagine you are a liberal judge on the federal bench. You know that the entire political system, which includes all three branches of government and both political parties, vests you with unlimited power to dictate policy with an injunction. Regardless of the law, Constitution, rules of standing for a judicial case, past and recent Supreme Court precedent, political fallout, or national security consequences, you can declare an opinion and have that policy unquestionably become “the law of the land.” Why wouldn’t you try your hand at being a judicial version of Kim Jong-un?

At some point, we should stop blaming the judges for legislating with impunity and start blaming the other branches for not only ceding that power, but actively giving effect to the judges’ usurpations of law.

On Friday, the Ninth Circuit, after illegally granting standing to illegal aliens who never entered our country, ruled that the Trump administration can’t return bogus asylum-seekers to Mexico. This is a policy Trump worked out with the Mexican president. This is exactly why the Supreme Court said in Mathews v. Diaz (1976) that “decisions in these matters [immigration] may implicate our relations with foreign powers” and therefore, these “decisions are frequently of a character more appropriate to either the Legislature or the Executive than to the Judiciary.”

The “remain in Mexico” policy is largely responsible for bringing monthly border numbers back down to 35,000 from 140,000 last summer, when the policy was first implemented. The minute the court issued the ruling, and before it later agreed to temporarily stay that ruling, there was a rush on our border in El Paso. The danger of a mass migration at our border during a global pandemic cannot be overstated.

Moreover, Central American governments have already warned us that among the caravan members are people wanted for homicide, kidnapping, extortion, and terrorism. Some felons are known members of the transnational gangs MS-13 and 18th Street.

No judge has the power to trigger such an international incident. At what point will the president finally say “enough is enough” to illegal rulings creating standing to sue and a right to immigrate for caravans?

The Trump administration routinely asserts its powers as an independent branch of government to ignore congressional subpoenas, a practice numerous presidents from both parties have used on a regular basis. Yet lower court judges can even decide border and foreign policies without any opposition?

In reality, a judge has no power to demand that foreign nationals be brought into the country. Judges can grant relief to a plaintiff, for example, by vacating a conviction. They can get government off the backs of an individual citizen. They can’t, however, demand that the executive branch take action to bring in more people at the border. That simply is not a justiciable issue for a number of reasons.

Undoubtedly, White House lawyers will tell the president to just stay the course and continue appealing to the Supreme Court. But they are missing the point. You can’t govern the country with your opponents winning on a strategy of death by a thousand lawsuits. The Supreme Court has already upheld the president’s power to deny entry under 8 U.S.C. §1182(f) in crystal clear terms. That opinion, in itself, was merely upholding a 1993 opinion that affirmed the president’s right to block entry, even in the context of asylum claims.

Yet the open-borders advocates are still coming back for more disruptions of our border in numerous ways.

Consider the following:

  • On Thursday, a federal judge in Washington state ruled that Trump can’t use funding for the border that was originally earmarked for a naval base in the state. Now judges appropriate money too! This issue was already litigated twice and went before the Supreme Court to be reversed in California and then in Texas. But this has not deterred another judge from issuing an injunction, nor will it deter the next liberal judge.
  • The travel ban, which was so strongly upheld by the Supreme Court, is half dead because the administration is still deterred by endless lawsuits. In fact, a judge recently ruled that USCIS must hand over more documents related to the travel ban. What happened to Trump v. Hawaii?
  • While the Supreme Court finally rolled back the insane injunctions on the public charge rule, there is still new litigation to try to pick away at its implementation.
  • The Supreme Court has upheld the concept of “expedited removal” for over 20 years, a statute that bars courts from hearing certain deportation cases. Yet the lower courts had no problem violating the law by hearing the case anyway … and ruling against the law!
  • At the same time judges were inviting the world to invade our border, another district judge ruled that Ken Cuccinelli’s appointment as acting USCIS director was illegal and that every decision he signed is void. Talk about a judicial veto power never mentioned in the Constitution!

Forget about Ilhan Omar’s bill to abolish immigration enforcement. The courts are doing it for free and without any backlash. But they only have the power that the other branches allow them to wield. When will there be a turning point against judicial usurpations? Will it take another border crisis?

Uproar After Kanye West ‘Sunday Service’ Replaces Transgender Show

Paris (AFP) – U.S. rapper Kanye West was at the centre of a storm Monday after a Paris show by an acclaimed transgender performer was cancelled at the last minute to make way for one of his religious services.

The mercurial singer took over the Bouffes du Nord theatre in the French capital for one of his famous “Sunday Service” gospel hymn sessions during Paris fashion week.

His wife Kim Kardashian turned up for the service in an almost sprayed-on latex brown suit, one of three figure-hugging Balmain looks she wore during the course of the day.

But French trans performer Phia Menard was furious that her “Maison Mere” (“Mother Ship”) show was pulled at just one day’s notice to make way for the golden couple of American pop culture, claiming the audience was told it was cancelled for “technical reasons”.

Menard — one of the discoveries of the Avignon festival in 2018 — refused take the news lying down, with her and her fans lambasting the theatre and West as an “imposter” on social media.

She accused the theatre of lying “so they could cash in on a religious ceremony and the money the Donald Trump-supporting rapper” could pay them, the 49-year-old juggler wrote on Facebook on Monday.

Menard said she felt she had been treated with “contempt”.

“I am an artist, a trans woman, the director of a company, and I refuse to accept this denial and contempt,” said the performer, who transitioned in 2008.

– Latexing the Kardashians –

The Bouffes du Nord told AFP that it cancelled Menard’s show that because of the “technical incompatibility of the two events”.

“The 98 people who had bought tickets were contacted and most came to her show the night before while the rest were reimbursed,” the theatre’s management added.

The theatre, once the base of the legendary British theatre director Peter Brook, dubbed “the father of the fringe”, insisted that its “support for creativity, even at its most demanding, remains total.”

West is in Paris to show the latest collection for his Yeezy label Monday.

The 42-year-old singer once dreamed of becoming the first black American head of a major Paris fashion label.

But his friend and former fashion adviser Virgil Abloh pipped him to it in 2018 when the Off-White creator took over Louis Vuitton’s menswear line.

West was joined at the service Sunday by his wife, their daughter North West and his sister-in-law Kourtney Kardashian, also dressed head-to-toe in latex.

Kim Kardashian was tied up and robbed at gunpoint of more than nine million euros ($10 million) worth of jewellery during Paris fashion week in 2016.

The haul included the engagement ring West had given her, which was reportedly worth $4.5 million.

Democrats Use Migrants to Smuggle the Transgender Ideology into U.S. Law

Democrat legislators want President Donald Trump’s Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to comply with pro-transgender rules set by President Barack Obama in 2015.

The legislators are pushing the pro-transgender policies despite Trump’s policy of reestablishing the legal recognition of fundamental biological differences between men and women Obama sought to abolish.

For example, Obama’s pro-transgender policy sought to place migrant men who say they are “transgender women” in detention facilities with women. Obama’s rules would also have provided foreign migrants with expensive hormones that help them change their sexual appearance, even when migrants could not afford those medications in their home countries.

In contrast, Trump’s deputies have kept roughly 100 people who say they are transgender in separate facilities, so minimizing the risk of sexual abuse. The separate accommodation also rejects the Obama policy that says that men who merely say they are women should be placed in women’s detention centers, even if they have not had surgery.

“Democratic lawmakers are pushing ICE to enforce the agency’s existing detention standards for transgender immigrants laid out in a 2015 memo,” according to a report by Reuters:

The memo, signed by former ICE Director Thomas Homan during the Obama administration, offers such protections as allowing immigrants to be housed according to their gender identity (transgender women with other women, for instance), as well as to be given access to medically necessary hormone therapy and mental health care.

The transgender policy agenda is hidden inside the Reuters report, which showcases complaints from some of the roughly 100 asylum-seeking migrants who wish to live as members of the other sex.

The report was leaked to Reuters by Democratic staffers who are pushing for the unpopular pro-transgender policy change:

Details of the inspections of the transgender unit at the Cibola County Correctional Center in New Mexico, which have not been reported previously, were contained in internal reports from the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) health corps and a U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) civil rights office.

The problems, which led to the transfer of all detainees to other facilities in January, were described to Reuters by congressional aides who were briefed on the documents and spoke on condition of anonymity.

But the complaints are thin gruel:

Federal inspections of the U.S. government’s only dedicated detention unit for transgender immigrants last year found hundreds of unanswered requests for medical attention, poor quarantine procedures and deficient treatment for mental illnesses and other chronic diseases, Reuters has learned.

In general, the Democrats’ transgender ideology says that Americans must accept that each person’s biological sex is subordinate to their “Gender Identity.” For example, if a male says he has a female “Gender identity,” regardless of his male biology, the Department of Justice would require Americans to treat him as a woman in bathrooms, sports, K-12 changing rooms, and other social or workplace circumstances.

The Reuters’ report downplays the aggressive transgender ideology as merely “protections,” without noting the costs and risks to the 99 percent of ordinary Americans:

Since taking office in 2017, U.S. President Donald Trump has rolled back protections for transgender people in the U.S. military, public schools and federal prisons.

Less than one percent of Americans say they are transgender; only a small minority of men who say they are women undergo genital cosmetic surgery.

In 2017 and 2018, Donald Trump ditched Obama’s rules and restored normal biological distinctions in federal regulations. For example, his Pentagon deputies adopted the “bright line of biology” when deciding if recruits are male or female, prison officials were told to assign people to jails that match their sex, and shelter operators were allowed to decide if men should be excluded from women’s shelters.

When processing migrants and asylum seekers, “ICE is committed to upholding an immigration detention system that prioritizes the health, safety, and welfare of all of those in our care in custody, including lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and intersex (LGBTI) individuals,” DHS told Breitbart News:

Decisions related to the location where individuals will be detained are made on a case-by-case basis, taking into account several factors, including – but not limited to – a transgender individual’s preference, the safety and well-being of the detainee and their ties to the community.

A lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender (LGBT) detainee, like all detainees, can be housed in a separate or dedicated unit (as applicable), with general population (male or female), or in protective custody.

The DHS also provided background on the agency’s response to migrants who want to live as a member of the opposite sex, some of whom also carry the HIV virus:

Safety

Housing determinations are made on a case-by-case basis. Currently, all 14 transgender individuals recently transferred to NWIPC are being housed together at their request. The PBNDS includes important enhanced protections for detainees who may be more vulnerable due to their actual or perceived sexual orientation or gender identity. Additionally, revised ICE detention standards maximize access to counsel, visitation, religious practices, and recreation; improve the agency’s prevention of, and response to, sexual abuse or assault that may occur in detention facilities; and strengthen guidelines for quality medical, mental health, and dental care.

Medical

With regard to medical treatment, each detainee (including transgender individuals) receives a comprehensive medical, dental, and mental health intake screening as soon as possible, but no later than 12 hours after arrival at a detention facility. Each detainee also receives a comprehensive health assessment, including a physical examination and mental health screening, by a qualified, licensed health care professional no later than 14 days after entering into ICE custody or arrival at a facility. Furthermore, all individuals in ICE custody have the unrestricted opportunity to freely request health care services – to include mental health and dental services – provided by a physician or other qualified medical staff in a clinical setting.  All sick call requests are received and triaged by appropriate medical personnel within 24 hours after a detainee submits the request.  Under the Medical Care section of the ICE 2011 Performance-Based National Detention Standards (2011 PBNDS), transgender detainees who were already receiving hormone therapy when taken into ICE custody shall have continued access.  All transgender detainees are also to be afforded transgender-related healthcare.

ICE also recognizes the unique, long-term health care management needs of detainees who identify as transgender and wants to ensure transgender detainees have access to every resource available at ICE’s disposal. In January 2020, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) transferred all detainees with chronic conditions, including the 27 transgender detainees, out of the Cibola County Correctional Center in Milan, New Mexico. While general population detainees were transferred to the Otero County Processing Center in Chaparral, New Mexico, the majority of the transgender detainees were transferred to the Denver Contract Detention Facility in Aurora, Colorado, or the Northwest Detention Center

in Tacoma, Washington. In January 2020, on average, ICE had nearly 100 self-identified transgender detainees housed in various facilities nationwide.

In the wake of the December 2019 report, in addition to transferring all transgender detainees out of Cibola, ICE reported that the following corrective actions were implemented: concerning the completion of laboratory orders, a certified phlebotomist staff member was assigned to complete all backlogged labs by December 10; a new Clinical Medical Authority began “on-the-job” education in both proper lab procedures and documentation of labs into the electronic medical records on December 16; and, the clinical nurse specialist or designee, was also instructed on December 16 to print off a lab list daily and review for any overdue lab needing to be performed. Additionally, beginning January 2, 2020, CoreCivic began conducting a monthly Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) study over 90 days to verify lab collection procedures are followed. All staff have also been educated on relevant detention standards, the use and documentation of the refusal form per CoreCivic policy and procedure, and medication policies.

Additionally, ICE has ensured the most commonly used HIV medications were added to the pharmacy inventory at Cibola, at CoreCivic’s expense, to prevent any delays in providing the medications to detainees upon release, and also set up a courier service with Cibola’s “back up” pharmacy via Diamond Pharmacy services and have notified the pharmacy of the HIV medications that should be stocked.

As Trump wins praise for effective coronavirus response, blue cities do opposite, threatening its spread it through homelessness

President Trump has rightly won praise from medical professionals and public health officials for taking tough action, even against leftist criticism, for effectively protecting the U.S. from the ravages of the coronavirus.

Nations that didn’t do that, such as China itself – which hid the crisis, enabling its spread; South Korea – which kowtowed to China; and possibly Japan and Italy, are now reaping severe consequences. Thomas Lifson wrote about the left’s criticism here and I wrote about Trump’s sharp recognition of a threat when he sees one, here.

As the left continues to heap criticism on Trump, with various claims of “chaos,” along with howls about a prayer before a task force meeting, it’s pretty obvious they aren’t the guys you’d want running anything in a time of crisis.

Exhibit A is President Obama’s response to the swine flu crisis of 2009, letting 1,000 people die before any action was taken, and downplaying the matter for political purposes even when it did. Never let a crisis go to waste?

Exhibit B is coming today from the blue cities, where officials are worried that the homeless are going to serve as a massive disease vector for the spread of the virus throughout those cities.

Here’s Tucker Carlson last night:

Here’s the Los Angeles Times:

Beilenson and others said homeless people present unique risks and challenges for outbreaks of infectious diseases. Though the number of coronavirus cases remains at only a few dozen in the United States, homeless people, in particular, for multiple reasons could be vulnerable to both a quick spread of the illness and to more severe cases.

People living outdoors often do so in close quarters and lack the ability to maintain basic hygiene, including precautions such as hand washing. They may also face more danger from serious infection because of existing illnesses or frequent use of drugs or alcohol — factors with the potential to make a case of COVID-19 more severe.

Some homeless people also move often, making them both hard to reach for treatment and potentially increasing the spread of the virus if they are carriers.

“Unfortunately, we know that people living in crowded, unsanitary conditions are at increased risk for a variety of infectious diseases,” said Dr. Jeffrey Klausner, professor of medicine and public health at UCLA. “This is definitely a population … with other chronic medical conditions, so should they acquire coronavirus, they are potentially at risk for more serious complications.”

Here’s the particular worry from Seattle, the city of Starbucks, a company which along with its host city, has famously accommodated them in ways to encourage rather than discourage homelessness. The Seattle Times reports:

King County, which has seen the highest number of deaths in the U.S. from COVID-19, the disease caused by the virus, has the third-highest homeless population in the country. More than 5,000 people were counted as living unsheltered in a one-night count of homelessness within the county last year, including more than 1,200 living in tents or unsanctioned encampments. This week, officials are scrambling to figure out how to contain the illness if it spreads to people in shelters or living outside.

Homelessness, as it happens, is a big money issue for the left, and as a result, homelessness is proliferating in these places, despite the hottest job market and the lowest unemployment rate in U.S. history. The left’s blue cities do all they can to encourage and reward homelessnes, amounting to the country’s great enabler of homelessness as a lifestyle. Blue cities employ and are expanding gargantuan bureaucracies dedicated to ‘servicing’ the homelessness, which encourages a hunt for more ‘clients.’ San Francisco alone spends $77,000 per homeless ‘client.’ They also refuse to enforce quality of life laws, such as those against vagrancy, public camping, drug use, public alcohol consumption, prostitution, or public urination and defecation, promoting homelessness even more. Some are encouraging squatting on private property. Others are permitting the homeless to take over public parks and spaces. Some, such as Bill de Blasio’s New York, are secretly busing the homeless to other cities to keep them from creating problems in their own cities. It’s a massive tax on those who own the overpriced homes in those cities but taxes are the left’s bread and butter. It’s a money merry-go-round, all done in the name of ‘compassion.’ What it isn’t, though, is effective.

Now public officials are concerned about blue cities’ vast armies of the homeless becoming de facto disease vectors, perfectly positioned for the spread of the coronavirus.

This stands in stark contrast to President Trump’s swift, decisive, and early, action on coronavirus, shutting down entryways to the U.S. to protect the U.S. population.

The left seems to be threatening that, by enabling homelessness. We don’t see this pattern in non-blue cities where vagrancy laws are enforced and those in need of help are taken to some place where they can get help, even involuntarily.

Trump has spoken of federal intervention to halt the squalor and chaos of blue cities, and it’s likely it’s a live threat to the blue cities’ keep-on-keeping-on ethos, given that California’s Gov. Gavin Newsom has improbably praised the Trump administration’s response on coronavirus. Maybe he had to given the distinct possibility of federal intervention. What’s obvious enough for now, though, is that Trump is effective at halting the spread of coronavirus. The blue cities of the left are not, and worse than not, they’re showing all propensity to to make things worse. Care to have these people running the entire country?

Ivanka Trump, A Liberal All Her Life, Makes Official Party Switch. Here’s What Made Her A Republican: Report.

“I’m a proud Trump Republican,” eldest Trump daughter and White House advisor Ivanka Trump told The New York Times during an interview published Monday.

Ivanka, always a supporter of her father President Donald Trump, has been a liberal Democrat all her life, advocating for progressive policies and registering as a Democrat in her home state of New York.

Now, that’s all changed.

The eldest Trump daughter told the NY Times that her official party switch came because of the Democratic Party itself, which Ivanka says strayed from her beliefs, and out of a desire to vote for her father in the New York primary in 2020 (New York state has a closed primary where residents can only vote within their registered party).

But the Times took note of a different fuel: the hyper-partisan impeachment proceedings against her father.

“Once seen as a moderate voice in the White House, the president’s older daughter was angered by his impeachment and plans on an active role as a fund-raiser for his re-election campaign,” Times journalists Maggie Haberman and Annie Karni wrote.

Haberman and Karni highlighted Ivanka’s recent appearance on Fox News’ Sean Hannity’s show, where the White House advisor said Democrats decision to reject celebrating Trump’s successes for the country was “not forgivable.”

“For us not to come together as a nation and celebrate America’s success is not forgivable,” Ivanka told Hannity in early February, Fox News reported. “And I think that’s why the viewers who were watching today and realizing and celebrating alongside the president, alongside the rest of this country, what is happening. Because we have completely changed the trajectory of this country.”

“And the president is unabashed in being excited about it and celebrating it and just being a cheerleader for American excellence,” she continued.

“What motivates this president and what motivates all of us who work for him is the desire to uplift all Americans, which is why it was so important to start at the beginning of the speech talking about how all Americans are benefiting from these policies,” Ivanka said of her father’s State of the Union Speech. “Especially blue-collar Americans and those who have been left behind.”

The Times reporters noted that Ivanka’s online “persona” has became more aggressive since the impeachment proceedings against her father began.

“This factional fever and incoherent, ill-conceived process has finally ended and the President has rightfully been acquitted,” the First Daughter tweeted when the Senate impeachment trial came to a close. “POTUS has accomplished so much and is just getting started. The best is yet to come!”

On the day of Trump’s acquittal, Ivanka celebrated the Trump win, the Times reported:

On the day of her father’s acquittal, the woman who once used her popular Instagram account to show herself off as a not-quite-relatable working mother raising a young family posted a photograph of herself giving the signature Trumpian double thumbs-up in front of an American flag, wearing a USA hat. In a caption, she wrote that the portrait captured her “#Mood.”

Ivanka’s formerly liberal husband and advisor Jared Kushner made the party switch to Republican, too.

“I was not a Republican,” Kushner recently told reporters, the Times noted. “Now I’m a Republican. I think the Republican Party is growing now that people like me feel comfortable being part of it.”

Forget the Steele Dossier – Now There’s a Bloomberg Dossier & It’s Devastating

As Democrats head to the polls in 14 states for Super Tuesday primary voting, former New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg now has to worry about a dossier of his own.

However, unlike a certain dossier of the Trump variety promoted by former British intelligence agent Christopher Steele, I’d guess a good majority of the Bloomberg allegations are at least based in fact.

No, it doesn’t involve Bloomberg collaborating with Russia or any strange stories involving hotel rooms and women of dubious reputation. It’s more quotidian — and yet, becoming public just as the Bloomberg campaign faces its first test, it yet again reinforces the narrative that Bloomberg fostered a toxic environment at his company.

The dossier, according to the U.K. Daily Mail, involves the recollections of more than 40 employees at Bloomberg LP who talked about how the boss treated women in his orbit — as well as the way he refused to fire an editor who was known to give unsolicited massages to female employees.

The Daily Mail’s lengthy headline said it all: “Bombshell dossier claims Mike Bloomberg abused employee who now features in his campaign, called another woman ‘dog face’ and failed to sack editor who gave employees MASSAGES.”

TRENDING: Dad Sits for Days Outside Wife’s Bedroom Door, Refusing To Leave Her During Her Cancer Battle

To a certain extent, it’s nothing that hasn’t been at least suggested about Bloomberg since he joined the Democratic primary field. Yet, the allegations, first reported by Business Insider on Monday, are more evidence that the only “moderate” candidate left on the Democratic dais who isn’t named Joe Biden is pretty much a wreck when it comes to his behavior toward the distaff gender.

So, first, let’s talk about the names it alleges he called women. In addition to the ones we’ve already heard — “fat broads” and “horse-faced lesbians” — we can add “dog face,” “Stopatrucksk” (a reference to a woman’s last name and weight) and “SFUs” (women who are “short, fat and ugly”).

The report also alleged he refused to promote Maggie Berry, a woman who was featured in a Bloomberg ad highlighting his positive treatment of women who worked for him, because of her weight.

A former employee said that Berry was passed over for a promotion in the 1990s that would have involved client-side interactions.

“I will not have that fat woman representing my company,” Bloomberg allegedly said. The former employee says that a man was hired instead, according to the Daily Mail.

Berry defended Bloomberg in a statement: “Having Mike’s backing and support has allowed me, and many other women at Bloomberg, to progress into management positions overseeing a significant part of our business,” she said, according to the Daily Mail.

That statement doesn’t exactly share any particular knowledge about whether that interaction occurred, however — nor would we expect Berry to have any, given she obviously wouldn’t have been present.

Other fun allegations in the dossier include one where Bloomberg told another employee, “Don’t let the lesbian get you down!” The “lesbian” referred to another powerful female employee.

Then there was the case of Washington editor Al Hunt, whose name was frequently mentioned in the article.

“Hunt’s alleged sexual harassment and inappropriate behavior was the subject of several human resource complaints and at least two financial settlements, sources said,” according to the Daily Mail.

“A source said that he would often walk up behind a female colleague seated at her desk and, without warning, begin rubbing her shoulders.”

“I remember seeing his hands move pretty rapidly between her shoulders and her arms. His hands were all over her,” a former employee said, according to the Daily Mail.

Another anecdote about Hunt says that he tried to hold a female employee’s hand without consent. When the employee withdrew her hand, Hunt is alleged to have put his in her pocket so he could continue holding her hand. Not at all creepy.

Then there was the allegation that Hunt asked an employee, after she got a matching manicure and pedicure, whether anything else matched, the Daily Mail reported. He also reportedly slapped a woman’s bare thigh and dared her to go to human resources, according to the report.

“Al Hunt talked a progressive game of hiring more women and promoting them, but it was mere virtue-signaling. Young female reporters were just shiny new toys for him,” a former employee said, the Daily Mail reported.

These women were known as “Al’s Angels” and would often get bonuses and promotions, even as he allegedly made sexist and sexualized remarks about them, according to the report.

Hunt denied the allegations, although in terms that struck this reader as strangely equivocal.

“There never was a propensity to touch women in inappropriate ways. The shoulder rub charge is wrong,” he said in a statement, according to the Daily Mail.

“There was one incident in which I was talking to a group of political reporters and apparently put my hand on the shoulder of a reporter sitting in front of me; NOT rubbing her neck, putting my hand on shoulder while talking to other reporters.

“She spoke to HR about it, who looked into it, spoke with reporters present and concluded there was nothing inappropriate and thus no need to inform me. I only was told about this several years later.”

Hunt was also accused of being abusive toward employees during his time at Bloomberg LP, according to the Daily Mail. In one tragicomic instance described in the article, he berated employees for not being able to find his glasses. He was later informed they were on his head. In another instance that doesn’t have the tinge of ironic humor to it, he purportedly threw a stapler at an assistant.

“He could be abusive to people working for him and very, very demanding and not always kind about [it],” one employee said, according to the Daily Mail.

As you can probably guess, despite being amply informed of Hunt’s behavior by employees, Bloomberg upper management decided not to intervene.

“I raised Al Hunt’s treatment of female employees to senior managers in the company on several occasions, after repeatedly witnessing its impact. I was never informed of any action,” one former Bloomberg employee said, according to the Daily Mail.

Another woman, who said that Hunt grabbed her by the arm and said, on another occasion, that “you are going to learn it pays to be an a–hole,” also claims she went to HR, according to the Daily Mail. HR promptly did nothing about it, the report stated. Hunt was with the company between 2005 and 2018.

Here’s the thing about the dossier: All of it is damning and none of it is new.

Pretty much everyone on the Democratic side of the aisle condemns President Donald Trump as a crude billionaire who treats women badly and says reprehensible things in private. Now they’ve taken, as one of their own, a candidate who embodies all of these qualities — a man who reportedly used to openly remark, upon seeing an attractive  woman, “nice t–s.”

Bloomberg’s alleged crudeness with women is nothing new. Elizabeth Warren got plenty of mileage out of “fat broads,” “horse-faced lesbians” and the allegation that he told a pregnant employee to “kill it” — as well she should have.

He had women sign non-disclosure agreements, something which the entire Democratic primary field has scolded him over. His campaign has mumbled under its breath that three of the women have been released from those contracts.

At least two, according to the Daily Mail, have “said they are not willingly silent.” My guess is that, when and if they’re released from the agreements, they’re not going to talk about how wonderful and supportive Bloomberg was and how the workplace at Bloomberg LP was nothing close to toxic.

In response, Bloomberg LP has said that it “strongly supports a culture that treats all employees with dignity and respect, and enforces that culture through clear policies and practices.” We’ve heard that line time and time again from Michael Bloomberg and his companies.

Here’s Bloomberg himself on what he would do if one of his employees acted inappropriately toward a woman: “I have no tolerance for the kind of behavior that the #MeToo movement has exposed and anybody that does anything wrong in our company, we investigate it, and if it’s appropriate, they’re gone that day.”

All right, then: Is it enough to hope that this petty, soda-banning misogynist takes his own advice and fires himself from the Democratic field?

Netanyahu Declares Election Victory In “Comeback Unseen In Israeli Politics”

Netanyahu Declares Election Victory In "Comeback Unseen In Israeli Politics"

Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has declared victory in the nation’s general election held on Monday, but still lacks a clear majority to form a ruling coalition in Israel’s third vote after two prior gridlocked elections.

“We won by believing in our own way and by the people of Israel,” Netanyahu stated immediately after. But he’s still two seats short of a ruling majority, as Reuters reports of the results:

With some 90 percent of the votes counted, Netanyahu, who has the pledged support of right-wing and religious parties for a coalition government, appeared to control 59 seats in parliament, two short of a ruling majority.

The gap made former defense minister Avigdor Lieberman’s far-right Yisrael Beiteinu party a potential kingmaker after remaining on the sidelines in inconclusive ballots in April and September.

Via AFP: ‘What a joyous night,’ a beaming Netanyahu told a cheering crowd in a speech at Likud’s election headquarters in Tel Aviv.

Netanyahu’s right-wing Likud Party gained just over 31% of the vote, followed by the opposition Blue and White party of Benny Gantz with over 23%, and with The Joint List, the alliance of Israel’s Arab political parties, with 11.60 percent.

However, Gantz stopped short of immediately conceding defeat, but noted his supporters’ “feeling of disappointment and pain” amid what could be another gridlock situation that has plagued Israeli politics for the past year.

Not only did Netanyahu extend his political career but saved himself from significant legal trouble as well, given he was shortly to go on trial for corruption — with only a win as prime minister that could keep him immune.

Israeli and international media are noting it’s a huge “comeback unseen in Israeli politics” for the embattled prime minister. As The Guardian reports Tuesday:

Adding to his woes, the timing of Monday’s election – held just two weeks before a scheduled court appearance in Jerusalem – could not have been worse.

Yet as the votes were being counted on Tuesday, it seemed Netanyahu, who denies all the charges, had somehow regained his swagger. While it remains unclear if he can form a government, or if the country is doomed to remain in political stasis, his ruling Likud party appears to be on track to win a significant number of seats and more than any other faction.

Writing in the often pro-Netanyahu newspaper, Israel Hayom, commentator Mati Tuchfeld said the result was “a comeback unseen in Israeli politics”.

Netanyahu, setting his sights on the next phase of building a coalition with his defeated rival Benny Gantz, said “It’s time for reconciliation”.

Gantz, for his part, in addressing supporters after the vote remained ambiguous on if he would agree to a coalition with Likud.

Concerning the impact of Netanyahu’s legal woes and corruption charges, The Guardian noted further that "voters either do not believe the corruption allegations, or they do not care. In this respect, there are parallels with some of Trump’s supporters in the US, who either refuse to believe or are happy to downplay criticism of his conduct."
