Over 200,000 Michiganders Sign Petition to Oust Governor Whitmer

Michigan citizens have been flooding a petition at Change.org calling for the removal of Governor Gretchen Whitmer, accusing her of gross negligence and failures in handling the coronavirus pandemic.

The “Recall Governor Whitmer” petition alleges the governor’s measures, such as “closing and banning various non essential business’s [sic] and activities while leaving others open,” are actually “causing more Michiganders to get sick.”

Launched three weeks ago by John Powell, the petition has picked up steam in past days following the governor’s extension of a stay-at-home order and raising penalties for non-compliance to a $1,000 fine and/or six months in jail.

In just the 24-hour period between Monday and Tuesday, the petition garnered more than 50,000 new signatures as citizens rush to express their displeasure with the governor, bringing the total number of signatories past the 200,000 mark.

Along with an extension on the statewide lockdown, Whitmer issued new restrictions on stores limiting the number of people in the store at one time to no more than four customers for every 1,000 square feet of customer floor space. Stores must also cordon off areas dedicated to carpeting, flooring, furniture, garden centers, plant nurseries, or paint.

Commenters wondered aloud what possible health concern could motivate the governor to keep people from planting seeds or repainting parts of their homes.

Michiganders have also accused Whitmer of neglecting their interests while attempting to curry favor with presumptive Democrat presidential candidate Joe Biden, who has signaled he is considering bringing her on as running mate.

“Her priorities are no longer the residents of Michigan but her possible position as V.P. for Biden,” wrote Patricia Duncan.

Biden brought Whitmer onto his podcast on April 6, in which he praised her for the job she is doing in Michigan.

“Gov. Whitmer is an outstanding governor. She is one of the most talented people in the country in my view,” Biden said. “She also is a supporter. She was also a co-chair of my campaign. She’s a good friend, but she has been laser focused, laser focused on delivering for her state.”

Biden has said he is considering between six and 10 candidates for the role of his running mate, one of whom is Whitmer, and that he is only considering women for the job.

Hoarding Headache in ‘The Time of Coronavirus’

Hoarding Headache in ‘The Time of Coronavirus'Throughout history, when governments have intervened in the smooth operation of the free market based on supply and demand, the results have been disastrous, not the least of which is hoarding and the emergence of black markets. I am not talking about the psychological problem of hoarding personal items when people have a hard time getting rid of anything they own, even old and dirty scraps of paper. I am talking about fear-based hoarding, the result of fear of shortage or imminent societal collapse.

Natural disasters such as announced hurricanes or tornadoes often compel people to buy excessive food, bottled water, gasoline, a generator, milk, but especially toilet paper. Civil unrest or fear of disease such as this corona pandemic can also force people to hoard food and other necessities, including toilet paper. In a category of its own are the preppers who are ready for any end of the world, political holocaust unrest scenario. They purchase food with the shelf life of 25 years or more and build shelters/bunkers underground, in caves, or decommissioned bunkers.

Chinese Consulate Asks Wisconsin State Senator For Praise In Resolution. He Gives Them A Resolution They Won’t Forget.

After receiving emails from the Chinese consulate asking him to pass a resolution praising China for its fight against the coronavirus, which originated in China, Wisconsin Senate President Roger Roth (R-Appleton) wrote a resolution slamming China for lying about the coronavirus.

“When [Roth] received the first one dated Feb. 26, he saw it was from a hotmail account and disregarded it as a prank,” the Wisconsin Examiner reported. “Then on March 10, 2020, he received a follow up, and Roth says he had his staff start digging, reaching out through government channels. They were able to confirm that the email requests were legitimate — and they were told Chinese diplomats routinely use private email accounts because they are faster.”

The Chinese sent Roth a draft of the resolution that they wanted him to use which was full of communist propaganda and said, “there is no need to overreact.”

The main section of the communist propaganda resolution stated:

Whereas China’s action has been critical to the global fight against the epidemic, and China has adopted unprecedented and rigorous measures for disease control and prevention, including locking down Wuhan, a metropolis of 11 million people, house-to-house temperature checks, postponing the return to work after the Lunar New Year break of hundreds of millions of travelers, construction of hospitals of more than two thousand beds on green fields within days, bringing in medical teams from across the country to Hubei Province. These measures have been effective in curbing the virus from spreading to other parts of China and the world. As a result, the daily number of newly confirmed cases in China has dropped sharply to double digits, over 60,000 (to be updated) people have been cured and discharged from hospital, and the case fatality rate has remained lower than SARS, EBOLA and MERS; and

Whereas China has been transparent and quick in sharing key information of the virus with the WHO and the international community, thus creating a window of opportunity for other countries to make timely response

“Then I got mad, because that’s when [COVID-19] cases started cropping up here and you saw the problem exacerbated as we started to learn the truth,” Roth told the Wisconsin Examiner. “I just sent them back a one-word response. I said ‘nuts.’”

“Then a couple of days later I said that we are going to introduce a resolution, it’s just not the one that the Chinese government wants,” Roth continued. “We’re going to introduce one that speaks the truth to the lies that I believe are being told around the world, so that’s how we ended up with the resolution as it was introduced.”

Roth put together the following resolution, in response to the request from the Chinese consulate, condemning China for its actions during the pandemic and for other acts of tyranny [emphasis original]:

Relating to: acknowledging that the Communist Party of China deliberately and
intentionally misled the world on the Wuhan Coronavirus and standing in
solidarity with the Chinese people to condemn the actions of the Communist
Party of China.

Whereas, the State of Wisconsin is currently in a state of emergency due to the
rising spread of the Coronavirus that originated in the Wuhan Province of China, as
the number of infected individuals in Wisconsin rose to over 700 and also consisted
of 8 deaths as of March 26, 2020; and

Whereas, the Chinese people are a great people, and heirs to one of the greatest
civilizations in human history, held hostage by a brutal and oppressive regime these
past 70 years; and

Whereas, the Communist Party of China has engaged in a continued pattern
of human and natural rights abuses perpetrated by the country’s communist
administration, including the Communist Party’s treatment of Tibet, the internment
and “reeducation” of 1.5 million Muslim Uyghurs in concentration camps, the
enactment of a one-child policy responsible for aborting hundreds of millions of
children, the majority of them female, a record of organ harvesting and forced
sterilization, crackdown on the Tiananmen protests, and restrictions on individual
expression and religious practice; and

Whereas, the Communist Party of China has repeatedly demonstrated a lack
of interest in respecting international norms, including a history of currency
manipulation, intellectual property theft, and restricting Chinese market access,
while receiving the condemnation of numerous American Presidents and Legislators
from both political parties for these practices; and

Whereas, the Communist Party of China, led by President Xi Jinping, has
moved to consolidate power, scrapping term limits to create a de facto life term for
the President of China and continually squashing democratic-based initiatives in
and outside of mainland China; and

Whereas, the Chinese government is currently engaging in a barrage of
misinformation throughout all corners of the globe, attempting to pass off the
responsibility of their negligent and reckless response to the virus; and

Whereas, the Chinese government has imprisoned their own citizens who
dared disseminate accurate information on the Coronavirus, destroyed early
samples of the virus, refused to release timely and accurate information on the virus,
and continued to allow infected individuals to leave the Wuhan Province after
reasonable evidence of person-to-person contamination was present; and

Whereas, reports have indicated that had the Chinese Government acted in a
more efficient, transparent, and responsible way, cases worldwide of the virus may
have been limited by 95 percent; and

Whereas, on February 5, 2020, the first confirmed case of Coronavirus was
identified in Wisconsin; and

Whereas, on February 26, 2020, and again on March 10, 2020, the Chinese
Consulate reached out to the Wisconsin Senate President requesting that the Senate
pass a resolution — written by the Chinese Consulate — including propaganda
and falsehoods such as:

“China has been transparent and quick in sharing key information of the virus with the WHO and the international community, thus creating a window of opportunity for other countries to make timely response”

Whereas, the Wisconsin State Senate deems it necessary and prudent to
combat the spread of misinformation propagated by the Communist Party of China
and the need to push back on the claims that the virus originated anywhere but
China; now, therefore, be it

Resolved by the senate, That the Wisconsin Senate acknowledges that the
Communist Party of China has deliberately and intentionally misled the world,
suppressed vital information on the statistics and spread of the Wuhan Coronavirus
both domestically and abroad, allowed millions of individuals to travel outside of the
province and country despite clear warnings that the virus could be transmitted
person-to-person, and engaged in active suppression and persecution of individuals
looking to truthfully discuss information related to the Coronavirus, which has led
to a global pandemic the likes of which has not been seen for generations; and, be it
further

Resolved, That the Wisconsin Senate hereby stands in solidarity with the
Chinese people, condemning the actions of the Communist Party of China in the
strongest possible terms, and acknowledges that millions, both in China and around
the world, are at risk of illness and death due to the negligence and hostile actions
of the Chinese Communist Party.

Cotton Proposes Opening Up Court System for Coronavirus Victims — ‘China Is Going to Pay for This Pandemic’

One of the more hawkish voices with regards to Mainland China throughout the coronavirus pandemic has been Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR).

Cotton has insisted the Chinese communist government has not been an honest broker throughout the ordeal and could have prevented some of the hardship with more transparency.

During an appearance on Fox News Channel on Monday, the Arkansas Republican U.S. Senator argued there were ways to extract compensation from China for the suffering caused by coronavirus. Those methods included manufacturing to opening up the courts to allow China to be sued, much like the ability that 9/11 victims were granted.

“Let’s remember that the China virus could have been a local health problem in Wuhan,” he said. “If the Chinese Communist Party had been transparent and honest and not been so corrupt from the very beginning, instead, they unleashed a global pandemic. So, there are many ways in which China is going to pay for this pandemic. One will be the basic removal of fundamental manufacturing capacity from China. What they’ve used to get rich in recent decades, like bringing pharmaceutical and medical device, medical supply manufacturing back to the United States.”

“China should also face economic consequences beyond the loss of their manufacturing capacity, such as opening the court system up for victims of the virus, much like we did for the victims of the 9/11 attacks,” Cotton continued. “And then there’s further actions that we should consider taking as well, like reviewing all of China’s participation in international agencies, some of which seem to answer to the beck and call of Beijing like the World Health Organization. The consequences of this virus are going to be far-reaching and long-lasting for the Chinese Communist Party.”

Town Board of Health Goes on Power Trip, Now Walking Wrong Way Can Be Punished

I don’t know about you, but I’m able to stay six feet away from people without the government telling me how to do it.

I can figure it out without rules, regulations, citations or fines. I never found it particularly difficult and I don’t need to be turned into a brainless automaton every time I walk out of my house, with every bodily action subject to the diktats of my local government.

The board of health in Beverly, Massachusetts, would disagree with me. They think I need to be told which way to walk. If I don’t walk in the right direction, I’m $100 lighter in the wallet thanks to an emergency order they passed.

According to WFXT-TV, Beverly now has one-way sidewalks on a stretch of a popular road. Walk the wrong way and you could be given a citation.

The rule is only being enforced on a half-mile stretch of a popular beach-adjacent street in the resort community, mind you, but that’s about a half-mile too much.

See if you can spot the COVID cliches in these two paragraphs from WFXT: “As we continue to adapt to the new normal, we learn from trial and error what works and what doesn’t to keep people safe and healthy,” they reported Wednesday.

“Just like grocery stores enforcing one-way aisles for shoppers to promote social distancing, police in Beverly are now doing the same but with sidewalks on a popular stretch of road along the beach.”

All right. I understand that “the new normal” involves not going near someone on the basis that you don’t want to get a dread disease that can fill your lungs with fluid and leave them feeling like they’re laced with shards of glass. That said, this isn’t a supermarket, which has narrow aisles and is private property.

Is government going too far in the name of “safety”?

This is a sidewalk.

And, as you can see in the video above, this is — at least the part that was shown — a pretty darn wide sidewalk. You could probably drive a Smart Car on it if you wanted to. In fact, the only thing preventing you from doing that is that you’d have to drive a Smart Car, and I can’t think of any way to make your limited time outside of the house worse than spending it in a vehicle that made the corpse of Henry Ford cry.

But no, apparently, this thing is so narrow that people are bumping into each other.

“In monitoring the area we noticed there was a tremendous amount of traffic with people walking into each other,” Beverly Police Chief John LeLacheur said. “[So], we had to make changes we had to come up with ideas. [The new rule] gives people the opportunity to keep that six foot distance.”

It’s times like these where I realize why Massachusetts was the only state in the union to vote for George McGovern back in the 1972 presidential election.

With all due respect to Mr. LeLacheur, he’s the police chief in a town that thinks people can’t stop stumbling into each other on a huge sidewalk without a regulation to prevent them from doing it.

And, we’ve heard this a million times before — authorities hope never to fine anybody under this emergency order.

“We’re hoping we never have to go there, [that] people are being compliant,” LeLacheur said. “All the comments we’ve gotten so far have been positive — now that they know this is what we’re asking them to do they’re doing it.”

In fact, they’ve stepped up patrols so that police officers can tell people why they’re supposed to only walk one direction and how this stops them from bumping in to one another. Because apparently, giving them a wide berth just wasn’t an option.

But wait — what about people who walk faster than the person in front of them? Might not they bump into that person if they pass them?

And remember, the elderly walk slow and they’re the ones most at risk from coronavirus.

So, new rule from the board of health: You can’t walk faster than the person in front of you. Better yet: You can’t walk faster than the median 72-year-older can. Any quicker than 2.1 miles per hour and you’re down a cool Benjamin, pal.

Of course, Beverly police hope never to have to go there, but they’ll be out on the street with radar guns checking your speed nonetheless. I’m sure all the comments they’ll get about this will be positive. After all, once people know why they’re asking them to do it, they’ll be down.

You can say I’m being unserious in the face of a deadly disease. Fine. I would ask you how serious you think Beverly’s COVID-19 preparations are when they’re expending some of their town resources on making sure people walk the same way on a sidewalk. This is blatant fatuity from the town board of health masquerading as actual concern for their constituents.

The Beverly Board of Health is either being over-officious in an attempt to make themselves feel better about a disease we can’t really control or tacitly admitting they believe they’re regulating a town where, in our new hand sanitizer-soaked reality, people can’t stop bumping into each other without government stepping in.

Either way, Beverly has much bigger problems than sidewalks.
