Klobuchar Tries To Rewrite History, But It WAS Her Responsibility To Prosecute Minneapolis Cop In Prior Case

Let’s unpack this. It’ll take a few minutes, but when you’ve read everything below, you’ll know the facts.

Derek Chauvin, 44, is a 19-year veteran with the Minneapolis Police Department. Chauvin is the central officer in the death of George Floyd. In a video shot by a bystander this month, Chauvin is seen with his knee on Floyd’s neck for more than eight minutes.

Flask back to Oct. 29, 2006. That day, Chauvin and five other officers shot and killed Wayne Reyes, 42, when he allegedly pulled a shotgun on officers after stabbing his girlfriend and another man.

Enter Sen. Amy Klobuchar. The Democrat is on Joe Biden’s short list of potential running mates. She wants the job, bad. Klobuchar was also the former local attorney in Hennepin County, which includes Minneapolis and several other cities and towns.

So when reports emerged that Klobuchar had failed to prosecute Chauvin back in 2006 — which she did — Klobuchar went to a friendly “news” network to refute the charges.

Here’s what she said Friday on MSNBC in its entirety:

This idea that I somehow declined a case, which has been reported on some news blogs and then set out on the internet, against this officer is absolutely false. It is a lie, I don’t know what else to say about it than it is a lie. The case went — was investigated. That investigation continued into a time where I was already sworn into the U.S. Senate. I never declined the case.

It was handled and sent to the grand jury by my successor. And he has said that. His office has said that it was not my place to make the decisions because the decisions were made when I was in the U.S. Senate, in fact nine months after I was in the U.S. Senate is when it went to the grand jury.

Now let me address the bigger issue. I have said repeatedly, back when I was the county attorney, the cases that we had involving officer-involving shootings, went to a grand jury. That was a [sic] true in every jurisdiction across our state, and that was true in many jurisdictions across the country.

I think that was wrong now. I think it would have been much better if I took the responsibility and looked at the cases and made the decisions myself. But let me make this clear, we did not blow off these cases. We brought them to a grand jury, presented the evidence for a potential criminal prosecution and the grand jury would come back with a decision. That is how we handled the cases.

Some of what she said is true — although MOST of it is false.

Klobuchar WAS in the Senate by the time a grand jury decided not to charge Chauvin — she had left her job as Hennepin County attorney on Dec. 31, 2006, after winning her Senate seat. It wasn’t until October 2007 that a grand jury decided not to charge Chauvin in Reyes’ death.

The Hennepin County Attorney’s office on Thursday issued a statement on seeking to clear Klobuchar: “A Hennepin County Grand Jury returned a no-bill in the death of Wayne Reyes on Oct. 25, 2007. All prosecutorial decisions were made under the direction of Mike Freeman.”

Mike Freeman, for the record, succeeded Klobuchar as Hennepin County attorney.

Now guess who decided to charge Chauvin with third-degree murder and manslaughter? Freeman, the Hennepin County attorney!

So Klobuchar is clearly lying when she said “… back when I was the county attorney, the cases that we had involving officer-involv[ed] shootings, went to a grand jury. That was a [sic] true in every jurisdiction across our state.”

Not true.

Here’s what Freeman — again, Klobuchar’s successor — said about the Blevins case and whether to charge officers involved.
“I didn’t have to call an investigative grand jury, and I will not call a decision-making grand jury,” Freeman said, according to MinnPost. “I will make that decision. That’s my job.”

“That’s my job.” Indeed it is. Grand juries — in Minnesota and elsewhere — are not always convened, and prosecutors make many decisions on whether to charge suspects all by themselves.

The MinnPost elaborated about the use of grand juries, which are secretive bodies convened to weigh evidence.

Minnesota prosecutors are required to summon a grand jury when seeking a life sentence for felony crimes, though otherwise they have the ability to decide when to use them on a case-by-case basis. For police shootings, the choice has become increasingly controversial; Critics call them problematic since their proceedings are confidential at a time when the public needs greater transparency into the process of deciding if or when police officers should be using excessive force. Supporters of the grand jury process say that involving a group of citizens in the charging decision adds a layer of fairness. California was the first state to ban them in police-involved shootings, in 2015.

A website called Lead Stories posted this piece on Friday, headlined: “Fact Check: Amy Klobuchar Did NOT Decline To Prosecute Cop at Center Of George Floyd Death.” The site, it’s worth noting, was co-founded by editor-in-chief Alan Duke — who worked for CNN for 26 years.

“Did Amy Klobuchar decline to prosecute Derek Chauvin, the cop at the center of George Floyd’s death? No, that’s not true: Klobuchar was not involved in the prosecutorial decisions in the October 2006 police shooting of Wayne Reyes, which happened just weeks before her election to the U.S. Senate. She had already been out of the job as Hennepin, Minnesota, County Attorney for a year when a grand jury returned a no-bill in the case against six Minneapolis officer involved in Reyes’s death,” said the piece.

After Floyd died, Freeman said that an investigation will take time. “We’re going to investigate [Floyd’s death] as expeditiously, as thoroughly and completely as justice demands,” Freeman said on Thursday. “Sometimes, that takes a little time and we ask people to be patient. We have to do this right.”

On Friday, after rioters burned down parts of Minneapolis, Freeman — and Freeman alone — brought charges against Chauvin. No grand jury, the prosecutor simply did his job: prosecute.

County attorneys in Minnesota have that power.

Klobuchar surely did — even though now, she’s trying to rewrite history to say she didn’t.

And the mainstream media is buying it — hook line and sinker.

Watch: George Floyd Protesters Recite Marxist Chant in D.C. ‘Nothing to Lose But Our Chains’

Protesters recited a Marxist chant on Friday in Washington, D.C., where they demonstrated over the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

“I would like to lead a chant by Assata Shakur,” said the protester, mentioning the words of the notable cop-killer, Assata Shakur, who was making reference to Karl Marx in his chant.

The famous words that Shakur referenced from Marx were: “Let the ruling classes tremble at a Communistic revolution. The proletarians have nothing to lose but their chains. They have a world to win.”

“Repeat after me,” said the protester. “It is our duty to fight for our freedom. It is our duty to win. We must love and support each other. We have nothing to lose but our chains.”

“When I say black lives, y’all say matter,” the protested added. “Black lives. Matter. Black lives. Matter.”

“No justice, no peace. No justice, no peace,” the protesters concluded.

The state of Minnesota announced on Friday that former police officer Derek Chauvin — who was seen pressing his knee onto the neck of George Floyd shortly before he died — was arrested and charged with third-degree murder and manslaughter.

Minneapolis Mayor Asks Rioters To Wear Face Masks And Practice Social Distancing As City BURNS

Minneapolis, Minnesota Mayor Jacob Frey and other city officials released a statement on Thursday condemning the violence in the city but urging rioters to wear masks and practice social distancing.

“While acknowledging the tremendous pain and trauma in Minneapolis, City leaders condemned the violence and widespread damage that has occurred in the city following the protests sparked by the death of George Floyd while in the custody of Minneapolis Police in south Minneapolis on May 25,” the statement said.

Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN) called in the Minnesota National Guard to help maintain peace, while Frey issued a declaration of local emergency.

“We need to offer radical love and compassion that we all have in us,” Frey at a press conference on Thursday. “I believe in this city and I know that you do to.”

City Council Vice President Andrea Jenkins called for the riots to calm down.

“As we stand here grieving, yet another loss of black life, I am asking my colleagues, the mayor, and anyone else who is concerned about the state of affairs in our community, to declare a state of emergency declaring racism as a public health issue,” Jenkins said.

The press release ends by asking the people who are currently burning down the city and destroying and looting local businesses to wear face masks.

“The City encourages everyone to exercise caution to stay safe while participating in demonstrations, including wearing masks and physical distancing as much as possible to prevent the spread of COVID-19. The City has made hundreds of masks available to protesters this week,” the statement said.

During the press conference, Frey told rioters their anger was justified and “right.”

“What we’ve seen over the last two days, and the emotion-ridden conflict over last night, is the result of so much built-up anger and sadness, anger and sadness that has been ingrained in our black community not just because of five minutes of horror but 400 years,” Frey said, according to The Washington Examiner (my former employer). “If you’re feeling that sadness and that anger, it’s not only understandable. It’s right.”

Frey appeared to change his tune on Saturday, speaking more harshly about the rioters.

“This is no longer about protesting,” he said. “This is about violence, and we need to make sure that it stops.”

As CBS News reported, protesters in Minneapolis “defied curfew orders as firefighters worked to put out fires across the city in the fourth night of unrest over George Floyd’s death.”

More from CBS:

CBS Minnesota reports they were battling fires at businesses. Demonstrators also set fires to dumpsters, trash bins, furniture and other items on residential blocks near the police department’s 5th Precinct building.

The Pentagon has put military police on alert to go to Minneapolis. The units are on notice to return to their bases within 30 minutes, which is the last alert stage before actually receiving an order, CBS News’ David Martin reports.

Nolte: CNN Allows Joe Biden to Falsely Accuse Charlamagne tha God of ‘Baiting’ Him

During an appearance on CNNLOL, Joe Biden falsely accused Charlamagne tha God of “baiting” him into making his infamous “you ain’t black” comment. Even though this is an obvious lie, CNNLOL’s Don Lemon, a dishonest anti-Trump activist, did not correct him.

Rapey Joe Biden is telling a flat-out lie.

Anyone who watched the Charlamagne interview knows that like the old, enfeebled racist he is, Old Joe just yelled out his “you ain’t black!” racism like the crazy man he is.

Charlamagne.

Watch for yourself right here.

As the interview winds down, all Charlamagne does is invite Old Joe back for another interview in the future.

Charlamagne: Listen you gotta come see  us when you come to New York VP Biden.

Biden: I will.

Charlamagne: It’s a long way until November. We got more questions.

Biden: You got more questions, but if you have a problem figuring out whether you have a problem figuring out of you’re for me or Trump, then you ain’t black.

There was no bait, and if you actually watch the video of the interview, you can see that Biden was itching to get this racist talking point in, was eager for an opening to shout his racism about who’s really black and who isn’t.

And where the hell is Don Lemon to call our Biden on his obvious and — in this current environment — incendiary lie? Good heavens, here we are in the middle of the worst racial tension since the last worst racial tension, you have an old white racist, a bigot who has praised both segregation and segregationists, blaming an innocent black man for his act of racism, and Don Lemon says nothing. Don Lemon lets the old, white racist get away with smearing an innocent black man.

That’s because Don Lemon wasn’t there to hold Biden accountable for his racism. No, instead, Don Lemon was there at the orders of CNNLOL chief Jeff Zucker to help the old, white racist clean up his mess. And if that includes unfairly blaming an innocent black man for his racism, well that is a-okay with Don Lemon because Don Lemon does whatever Jeff Zucker tells him to do.

It should be curious to see how Charlamagne tha God reacts to this old white racist blaming him for his racism.

But what I’d be really interested in seeing is if Charlamagne has the moral courage to call Don Lemon out for allowing this old white racist to deliberately lie and smear him in this way.

Trump Blasts “Antifa, Radical Left” After Minneapolis Officials Blame “White Supremacist… Terror Cells” For Rioting, Looting

Trump Blasts "Antifa, Radical Left" After Minneapolis Officials Blame "White Supremacist… Terror Cells" For Rioting, Looting

Tyler Durden

Sat, 05/30/2020 – 11:50

Update (1200ET): Perhaps confirming his reasoning for maintaining his Twitter feed (to counter the ‘fake news’ media), President Trump has tweeted in response to the blame-scaping occurring below:

*  *  *

There is a delicate tightrope of a path to tread here as politicians, officials, media are forced to admit that these "protests" are now "riots" and while the death of George Flynn at the hands of an over-zealous cop to say the least was egregious, the rioting, looting, and shooting across the nation last night is hard for even the most ardent member of the ‘Resistance’ to defend.

So, what they need is a narrative-shifting bump, to get back to the "it’s racism and it’s Trump’s fault" narrative that Biden began yesterday.

And cue this morning’s Minneapolis, St.Pauls, Minnesote officials press conference this morning to set up the pretense…

First, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz summed-up the current chaos erupting nationwide perfectly:

"These are outsiders… This is absolutely no longer about George Floyd or addressing inequities anymore. This is an organized attack designed to destabilize civil society."

Then Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey confirmed that the people who are coming to Minneapolis to protest are not residents and are "coming in largely from outside the city."

"Our Minneapolis residents are scared and rightfully so. We’ve seen longterm institutional businesses overridden. We’ve seen community institutions set on fire. And I want to be very, very clear. The people that are doing this are not Minneapolis residents," he said at a news briefing on Saturday. He said the protests earlier this week that were mostly peaceful and were largely attended by those who lived in the city, but "the dynamic has changed."

"Gradually that shift was made and we saw more and more people coming from outside of the city. We saw more and more people looking to cause violence in our communities, and I have to say, it is not acceptable," Frey said. "This is no longer about verbal expression. This is about violence and we need to make sure that it stops," he added. St. Paul Mayor Melvin Carter said everyone who was arrested in his city last night was from outside the state. "What we are seeing right now is a group of people who are not from here," he said.

And then finally, Minneapolis Department of Public Safety Commissioner John Harrington once again confirmed that narrative:

“…I’m not seeing peaceful demonstrations. And I am not seeing, frankly, any empathy or any heart for Mr. Floyd”

And added that last night we saw a change in the temperament and the approach:

"…they are what I call rioters…they are not demonstrating for a case, they are not protesting injustice, they were simply bent on destruction."

So the question is – who are "they"? These rioters that suddenly appeared out of nowhere to instill anarchy in the peace-loving people of Minneapolis (and 35 other cities around the nation)? Harrington appears to have an answer – it’s a white supremacist terror cell…

"…as we have made arrests, we have done contract-tracing similar to our covid response… who are they associated with? what platforms are they advocating for? …and we have seen things like white supremacy… part of an organized criminal organization and we are looking at whether this is an organized cell of terror."

Which also backed up what the Minnesota AG said: "Yes there are infiltrators…They are white & probably white supremacists…"

So, there it is folks. Despite scenes of 1000s of black folks looting stores and firebombing police precincts, this is white supremacists’ fault… probably using Facebook to brainwash otherwise-peaceful Americans who just wanted to go about their day (and definitely not antifa! Don’t you dare suggest that, because that would be racist… just asking an awkward question though – how likely is it that a group of young white nationalists would burn a precinct to the ground?).

As Minneapolis Target Turned to Scene from Mad Max, ‘Armed Rednecks’ Kept the Peace at Nearby Store

As chaos raged in Minneapolis, a group of “armed rednecks” flexing their Second Amendment rights at a small business appear to have been effective in discouraging any potential looters.

Other shops in the area weren’t so fortunate and quickly fell to the mob.

Two of the armed men told reporter Max Nesterak of the Minnesota Reformer how they ended up in front of a small tobacco store, helping to defend it from violent looters Wednesday night.

The two men claimed they stood with those protesting the death of George Floyd, a suspect who died after an encounter with the Minneapolis Police Department, but would not abide the looting.

“It’s about d— time that some heavily armed rednecks stood with fellow citizens,” one of the men said.

The duo explained how they heard looters were descending on a local tobacco store and showed up to help the shop’s besieged owners.

WARNING: The following video contains graphic language that some viewers will find offensive.

Although the store suffered some broken windows (damage done before the armed men appeared), it missed the full outrage of the crowd.

Businesses without armed citizens standing guard weren’t so lucky and soon fell prey to the mob’s greed and violence.

A local Target turned into a scene from Mad Max as looters rampaged through the smoke-filled store, making their escape with electronics and other consumer goods.

Violence erupted in Minneapolis and other American cities after news of Floyd’s death, and a video taken shortly before, went viral.

Although many Americans seem to be banding together over the alleged police brutality, others have taken advantage of the racial tensions to push their own agendas.

Democratic Rep. Maxine Waters of California dumped fuel on the fire by attacking white officers seen in the video, claiming at least one of them “enjoyed” the alleged assault against Floyd.

While the officers in the Floyd case have yet to appear in a court of law, mounting evidence seems to indicate that some of the police present during his encounter acted inappropriately.

With riots threatening to stretch into the weekend, it’s unclear if more armed citizens will show up to hold the line against violent protesters.

Melania’s Response Condemning Riots Should Be Covered by Every Media Outlet in America

The death of George Floyd has been a tragic moment compounded by riots in cities across America — particularly Minneapolis, the city in which Floyd died on Monday.

Floyd’s death has drawn condemnation across the political spectrum. A criminal complaint says that police officer Derrick Chauvin had his knee on Floyd’s neck for almost nine minutes during an arrest, and Chauvin is now charged with third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter.

In a video taken by a bystander, Floyd can be clearly heard to say, “I can’t breathe.”

There’s been no shortage of reactions from across the political spectrum, particularly now that riots have reached engulfed the nation from Los Angeles to the White House.

First lady Melania Trump, in her response, highlighted the tragedy of Floyd’s death but said that violence is unnecessary given the situation, particularly given the backdrop of COVID-19:

“Our country allows for peaceful protests, but there is no reason for violence,” the first lady tweeted Friday.

“I’ve seen our citizens unify & take care of one another through COVID19 & we can’t stop now. My deepest condolences to the family of George Floyd. As a nation, let’s focus on peace, prayers & healing.”

Do you think violence is ever an acceptable form of protest?

The post came after a pair of controversial tweets from the president, including one which was flagged by Twitter for violating “the Twitter Rules about glorifying violence.”

“I can’t stand back & watch this happen to a great American City, Minneapolis. A total lack of leadership. Either the very weak Radical Left Mayor, Jacob Frey, get his act together and bring the City under control, or I will send in the National Guard & get the job done right,” President Trump said.

“These THUGS are dishonoring the memory of George Floyd, and I won’t let that happen. Just spoke to Governor Tim Walz and told him that the Military is with him all the way. Any difficulty and we will assume control but, when the looting starts, the shooting starts. Thank you!

RELATED: Watch Melania Exemplify Grace and Beauty of First Lady in Moving Call to Prayer

A fair amount of the coverage of Melania Trump’s tweet focused on the divergence of messages between the president and the first lady, usually using that divergence as a jumping-off point to a screed about the Twitter warning.

Leaving aside the fact that Trump pointed out what should have been obvious — he meant that “[l]ooting leads to shooting,” as he tweeted later — the difference in messages is precisely why the president and first lady play different roles in American public life.

The first lady’s job is to bring the country together. That’s inherently difficult given the political climate and Melania’s last name, but she’s done so effectively enough that she’s consistently been the most popular Trump.

This is partially why: She condemned the riots, she said there was no reason for violence, she expressed her condolences to the family of George Floyd and she reminded us all that unity is key, especially since we’re still in the midst of the COVID-19 crisis.

This certainly isn’t the time for nationwide riots, particularly over a police action that’s been roundly condemned by almost everyone.

Meanwhile, while the left has stayed away from condemning the riots explicitly — either tiptoeing around the subject or explaining them away as a natural reaction to injustice — Melania condemns them, although not in the strong terms her husband did.

In short, this is the kind of unifying response one should expect from a first lady.

This is something that the media should be blaring from the metaphorical rooftops. As for whether or not they will, we already know the answer to that.

Law Professor Wins Defamation Suit Against Woman Who Falsely Accused Him of Rape

A University of Minnesota Law School professor has been awarded more than $1 million in a defamation suit he launched against a woman who prosecutors have said falsely accused him of rape.

Hennepin County District Court Judge Daniel Moreno ruled Monday that Francesco Parisi should receive more than $800,000 for economic losses and $325,000 for emotional, punitive and reputational damages, according to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune.

Parisi had been charged with rape in 2017 for a crime that was alleged to have taken place in 2015. The charges against him were dropped three weeks after they were filed. Parisi then launched a suit against Morgan Wright, who had brought the rape charges. That suit was heard before Moreno in September.

Moreno’s decision summarized the background.

“This case is about a relationship that started quickly, out of a mutual interest in a potential real estate adventure. The relationship ended quickly too, as the Parties, who were intertwined in the purchase and partition of a condominium unit, became embroiled in issues related to the construction and financing of that project,” Moreno wrote.

TRENDING: Washington Inflates COVID-19 Numbers, Includes Gunshot Victims Among Deaths

“The relationship spanned from September of 2014 to January of 2015. Next was litigation related to that real estate project, as Parisi sought to cancel the purchase contract he made with Wright. So began Wright’s retaliatory offensive, culminating with her defamatory claim that Parisi raped her in January of 2015.”

The judge noted that the real estate dispute triggered Wright’s accusations.

“In March of 2015, Parisi began the process of cancelling the Parties’ real estate contract. Soon after, Wright claimed Parisi tried to run her down with his car. In June of 2016, Parisi’s action to cancel the purchase agreement and evict Wright were affirmed in the Minnesota Court of Appeals. Directly after, on June 30, 2016, Wright alleged Parisi raped her on January 22, 2015,” he wrote.

Moreno ruled that the charges caused suffering on the part of Parisi.

“Wright caused Parisi to be charged and jailed because of these defamatory statements. Parisi was not able to be with his mother as she passed away while he was being held in custody. Wright continued her defamatory campaign, lobbing various accusations against Parisi and disseminating them to various people. Wright and her plethora of allegations against Parisi lack credibility,” he wrote.

Moreno also noted that in the months after when she claimed she had been raped, Wright had been to several medical appointments and mentioned neither the rape nor the injury she said it had caused to her body.

Wright’s “accusations were false, made with malice,” Moreno ruled, adding that she “injured Parisi as a direct result of her untruthful narrative crusade.”

Parisi’s attorney, John Braun, told the Star Tribune that his client “is pleased that court system has finally unmasked Morgan Wright and recognized her for the liar that she is. … It’s been ruinous to his reputation and his health to have to constantly be battling” Wright.

“Wright enjoyed the benefit of doubt for years of weaponizing the court system to harass Professor Parisi, and those days are finally over,” he added.

RELATED: Owners of Restaurant Shut Down by Government Fight Back

Braun said Parisi still suffers from the false allegation because an internet search for him “returns a mug shot and headlines about him being a rapist, and it will forever. So part of the court’s message is that in the 21st century this is a greater harm than it might have been in the past, and an award needs to anticipate the long arc of future harm still to be endured by its victim.”

“It was a horror movie,” Parisi told KMSP-TV.

“I used to be the popular guy at parties,” he said. “I’m Italian; I bring the good wine. I don’t get so many invitations now.”

The settlement appears to be the largest defamation award in Minnesota history, according to the Star Tribune.

Director of Female Ghostbusters Suggests Racist, Sexist Trump Fans Killed His Movie

The 2016 Ghostbusters reboot set an ugly pop culture template. Suddenly, to merely dislike a female-centric film made one a sexist if not an outright bully.
