UN-HAPPY THANKSGIVING! Why Do Journos Hate This Holiday So Much?

Assuming you are allowed to meet up with your family for even the smallest of get-togethers this Thanksgiving (CNN doesn’t want you to), the media want you to use that day of giving thanks to instead lecture your conservative Donald Trump-supporting family members about America’s atrocities.
Over the years the MRC has tracked liberal journalists’ hatred of this very American holiday and how they’ve tried to ruin it for everybody.
The following are some of the most egregious examples of lib journos attempts to wreck Thanksgiving:

1. HOW DARE YOU CELEBRATE THAT DAY OF ATROCITY!

Media Check Our Thanksgiving Privilege, Tout “Day of Mourning”
In 2019, NB’s Gabriel Hays wrote up the attack on the hallowed day by The New Yorker and CNN:
The New Yorker did some heavy historical lifting to remind white European-Americans just how much their hallowed “creation stories” are lies meant to distract them from what this country is: a place of racial injustice that was founded on racial injustice. During America’s civil war era, “American mythmakers discovered that the Pilgrims, and New England as a whole, were perfectly cast as national founders: white, Protestant, democratic, and blessed with an American character.”
Thus a story was born to serve white megalomania for centuries to come. The outlet claimed, “Glorifying the endurance of white Pilgrim founders diverted attention from the brutality of Jim Crow and racial violence, and downplayed the foundational role of African slavery.”
The piece clarified the savage truth behind this myth: “the Thanksgiving story buries the major cause of King Philip’s War — the relentless seizure of Indian land. It also covers up the consequence.” Oh yes, as we’ve been told time and time again, much raping and pillaging happened.
It even threw in the idea that the fabled meeting between both Wampanoags and Pilgrims happened because the cautious Indians were perturbed by the settlers having a good old time shooting guns, those rednecks. “It was a party, not a prayer, and was full of people shooting at things,” historians have claimed, affirming that Indians weren’t actually there to celebrate, but see if everything was all right.
“They came not to enjoy a multicultural feast but to aid the Pilgrims: hearing repeated gunfire, they assumed that the settlers were under attack.” Of course what followed were centuries of land seizure, small-pox, and yes, genocide.

Even CNN’s Victor Blackwell had to start his Thanksgiving coverage by mentioning the “Day of Mourning,” the alternative Thanksgiving where the last few Wampanoags living in Massachusetts remember they were robbed, and are still waiting for justice for the wanton destruction of their tribes.

Curry: Indians “Feel Thanksgiving Should Be Day of Mourning”

During an interview on the November 24, 2003 Today show with the author of a book urging families to learn more about the history of Thanksgiving and to appreciate being American, Curry countered: “You know there are some American Indians who feel that Thanksgiving should be a day of mourning, not a day of celebration, because of what happened to their people.”

HuffPost: Cancel Thanksgiving to Save the Planet
Back in 2019 NB’s Alexa Moutevelis discovered a Huffpost article that posited we forgo Thanksgiving to save the planet:
HuffPost recommends forgoing Thanksgiving all together to save the planet from global warming. Because traveling to gather with family and friends to offer thanks is selfish.
Author Alexandra Emanuelli began her article on Nov. 5 with a reminder that Trump is pulling out of Paris climate agreement and the surely non-political Climate Action Tracker rates America’s efforts as “insufficient.” This leads Emanuelli to write, “With that in mind, one wonders: How much damage are we doing with our epic Thanksgiving meal every year?” No, actually, normal people don’t wonder such ridiculous things. And yet she talked to researchers in an attempt to calculate “Thanksgiving’s carbon footprint.”

Thanksgiving Is “The Supremely White American holiday,” “Most Ghoulish Event on the National Calendar”
In 2007, NewsBusters Executive Editor Tim Graham stumbled upon this anti-Thanksgiving rant featured on the Website The Black Commentator:
“Nobody celebrates Thanksgiving quite like Americans celebrate Thanksgiving. It is reserved by history and the intent of ‘the founders’ as the supremely white American holiday, the most ghoulish event on the national calendar. No Halloween of the imagination can rival the exterminationist reality that was the genesis, and remains the legacy, of the American Thanksgiving. It is the most loathsome, humanity-insulting day of the year — a pure glorification of racist barbarity.”

New York Times: Happy Thanksgiving, Trumpian Bigots and Other Ignorant Folks
In 2019 NB’s Clay Waters found a couple of cheery holiday items by New York Times columnists:
With the woke left busy repurposing Thanksgiving as a day of Western guilt and genocide against Native Americans, Times columnist Paul Krugman counterintuitively, perhaps insincerely, portrayed the Thanksgiving holiday as something worth celebrating. Why? To bash Trump and his supporters as bigots, naturally in the piece: “Why Trump Should Hate Thanksgiving”
“Do Trump and his band of bigots even understand what Thanksgiving is about? If they did, they would hate this most American of holidays. After all, the Pilgrims were refugees fleeing persecution by the English monarchy, which at the time was still an autocratic regime. They were, in other words, exactly the kind of people Trump and company want to keep out. Furthermore, the traditional portrait of the first Thanksgiving is as a moment of racial tolerance and multiculturalism: European immigrants sharing a feast with Native Americans. That moment didn’t last: Much of New England’s native population was wiped out over the next few decades. And such an outcome may well have been inevitable. But we still celebrate the tale of a benign meeting of races and cultures.”…
Columnist Charles Blow was on more familiar ground, explaining the real history of Thanksgiving to the ignorant in “The Horrible History of Thanksgiving — Before you fill your plate, please remember why we mark this day.”
At least he didn’t spare himself from condemnation:
“I thought it was such a beautiful story: People reaching across race and culture to share with one another, to commune with one another. But that is not the full story of Thanksgiving. Like so much of American history, the story has had its least attractive features winnow away — white people have been centered in the narrative and all atrocity has been politely papered over.”

2. POLITICS RUINS THANKSGIVING, UNLESS YOU ARE LECTURING CONSERVATIVES

Blame Trump for Why Civility Has Disappeared from Thanksgiving Dinner

In 2019, NB’s Kristine Marsh recounted how ABC’s The View crew complained that Donald Trump had ruined the holiday:
Whoopi [Goldberg] went on to wish for times where there wasn’t animosity towards family members for their political differences.
“I want the America where we’re all sitting around going, ‘Well, I don’t know if I agree with that?’ Not, ‘You’re a terrible, horrible person’ because remember, like, 20 years ago when people started saying, ‘Well, you’re not really an American if you don’t agree with me’?’ I want to go back to those days. I want the days back where we can sit and disagree and pick our teeth and eat food. That’s what I want. You know? That’s what I want.”
This was met with applause but Sunny Hostin and Joy Behar couldn’t help but blame Trump.
“I think that will come back when people believe in their government, when people believe that their president is acting for their own — for Americans,” Hostin remarked.
Behar piped up with “Instead of himself!” to Hostin’s agreement.
Whoopi asked her co-hosts, “Do you think it will come back if we believe in ourselves as well?” before adding, “Civility seems to have gone away.”

CNN: How to Talk Impeachment at Thanksgiving Dinner
In 2019, NB’s P.J. Gladnick discovered this CNN item on how to become the most annoying guest at the Thanksgiving Dinner table:
Do you have a bizarre desire to both bore and annoy your fellow Thanksgiving dinner guests? Well, good news! CNN’s Zachary B. Wolf on Wednesday provided a handy dandy guide on how to easily accomplish this task with “Get smart on impeachment before Thanksgiving dinner.”
Wolf somehow assumes that hearing the mainstream media hype impeachment (which is now losing steam) 24/7 is not enough for the public. His fantasy is that the public will not only have its fill of turkey and stuffing but will have room left over for a discussion about impeachment that the media is so obsessed about.
“Happy Thanksgiving! You probably don’t want to talk politics with your Uncle Al, but it’s going to come up. A CNN poll this week found that about 4 in 10 Americans are paying very close attention to the impeachment proceedings — but almost everyone has an opinion about it. Here’s what you need to know about impeachment to not sound like a stuffed turkey in front of your family and friends.”

Chicago Tribune Columnist: How to Mock Your Crazy Trump-Loving Family Members This Thanksgiving
In 2019, Kristine Marsh wrote up Chicago Tribune columnist Rex Huppke’s guide on how to talk to the Trump-loving, Fox News-watching members of the family:
Huppke also goes into a pompous lecture bashing Republicans as a cult without brains:
“We are living not just in a divided America but in an America made up of two wholly separate realities. One is inhabited by those of us who have managed to keep at least one foot in the world where provable facts exist and good and bad mean what we’ve always believed them to mean. The other is populated by those who have joined President Donald Trump’s cult of lack-of-personality and had the left hemisphere of their cerebral cortex replaced with a Sean Hannity bobblehead that, every five minutes, shouts, “BENGHAZI!!”

Harper’s Bazaar Writer: Become Annoyingly Political at Thanksgiving Dinner
Back in 2018, P.J. Gladnick found this thoughtful bit of dinner conversation advice by Harper’s Bazaar writer Rachel Elizabeth Cargle:
Cargle has come up with a bunch of ways to destroy the Thanksgiving mood by going annoyingly political as you can read in her November 19 article, “How to Talk to Your Family About Racism on Thanksgiving.” Cargle kicks things off by dispensing advice from a famous American Communist:
“After a year of relentless atrocities that don’t always make for easy conversation at the dinner table, it’s important to make Thanksgiving preparations beyond the tablescape and the menu. This year, I want you to prepare for something a little more nuanced than stuffing or cranberry sauce: I want you to prepare to rock the family boat, with important discussions that stretch beyond the surface of “How’s the weather?” and “Who are you dating these days?” So, I’m coming to you with a guide that should push you beyond apathy, and instead, teach you how to be a part of the solution. As Angela Davis reminds us, it is not enough to not be racist. You have to be anti-racist, and if you are not actively being part of the solution, then you are a part of the problem. So here is some language to help you navigate Thanksgiving day dinner.”

3. HOW DARE (REPUBLICAN) PRESIDENTS EXPLOIT THANKSGIVING FOR PHOTO-OPS

MSNBC’s Ruhle Calls Trump’s Thanksgiving Visit to Afghanistan a “Photo-Op”

In 2019, NB’s Alex Christy wrote-up MSNBC host Stephanie Ruhle ascribing cynical motives to President Donald Trump’s Thanksgiving visit to the troops:
Surprise presidential visits to war zones to spend time with the troops during Thanksgiving or other holidays have become a bipartisan tradition that everyone can support. While most view such visits as a way to honor the troops and express amazement at the amount of planning and secrecy that goes into such trips, MSNBC Live host Stephanie Ruhle took Friday to call Trump’s Thanksgiving visit to Afghanistan a “photo-op” and wonder that if he will plan more foreign visits as part of a strategy to counter impeachment.
Ruhle theorized that the trip was about the imagery of the presidency, “The imagery of the president standing there with troops behind him, the President literally, maybe he’s watching, tweeted a bunch of photos from the trip. That’s a big win for him.”
She then asked Washington Post White House correspondent Anne Gearan, “Given the impeachment battle is going on, the president is under attack in all sorts of ways, are we going to see more overseas trips that give him these kind of photo-op scenarios?”

Obama “Wins Troops’ Cheers” in Iraq, But Bush’s Thanksgiving Visit Greeted With Petulance
Back in April 2009, Barack Obama wowed the press with his trip to Iraq, which was a different reaction George W. Bush received from journalists when he made a Turkey Day visit to the troops in 2003:
The front page of Wednesday’s Times featured a huge Associated Press photo of President Obama greeting troops on his surprise trip to Baghdad. The caption (from the print edition, emphasis in original):
“In Unexpected Visit to Iraq, Obama Wins Troops’ Cheers – Military personnel at Camp Victory in Baghdad applauded President Obama on Tuesday when he said ‘It is time for us to transition to the Iraqis.’”
That teased a favorable story about Obama’s visit on Page 11, which included another photo of Obama and the troops, with a more straightforward caption (again from the print):
“President Obama spoke to American troops at Camp Victory, Iraq, on Tuesday. The president said that it was time for Iraqis ‘to take responsibility for their country and for their sovereignty.’”
Compare the photographic enthusiasm the Times showed over Obama’s first trip as president to Iraq to the coolness with which the paper’s photo-caption writers greeted President George W. Bush’s dramatic first, secret visit to Iraq on Thanksgiving Day 2003, which occurred during intense wartime hostilities.
While even Bush-hostile reporter Elisabeth Bumiller admitted in her front-page story that the president was surrounded by “stunned, whooping soldiers,” none of that enthusiasm made it into the photo captions from Bush’s visit to Baghdad.
The caption accompanying a front-page photo of Bush carrying a turkey among troops was coolly descriptive:
“President Bush with American troops yesterday at the mess hall at Baghdad International Airport.”
And a photo caption that evidently appeared on the article’s jump page was self-obsessed and petulant. According to the Times archive (the photo itself is not online), the text read:
“President Bush posed for a photograph yesterday during his surprise visit to American troops at the airport in Baghdad, Iraq. Few journalists were told of the trip or allowed to cover it.”

Thanksgiving Proclamation: Donald Trump Celebrates 400th Anniversary of Plymouth Rock Landing

President Donald Trump celebrated the 400th anniversary of the pilgrims’ journey to America in 1620 in his annual Thanksgiving Proclamation.

“Propelled by hope for a brighter future, these intrepid men and women endured two long months at sea, tired and hungry, to arrive in a new world full of potential,” he wrote.

Trump recalled that the community celebrated the first Thanksgiving in America the following year despite unprecedented hardship in the New World.

“This seminal event in the history of our Nation is a continual reminder of the power of faith, love, perseverance, prayer, and fellowship,” he wrote.

The president recalled that the Mayflower Compact developed by the pilgrims was the beginning of democracy in America.

“Defined by majority rule through elected leaders responsible for creating ‘just and equal laws,’ the Mayflower Compact represents the first chapter in the long tradition of self-determination and rule of law in America,” he wrote, noting that 156 years later, the Founding Fathers enshrined that concept when forming the United States government.

He also recalled that the pilgrims lost nearly half of their community to exposure, disease, and starvation in the winter that followed, but they never lost their faith in God.

“Despite unimaginable hardships, these first Americans nevertheless remained firm in their faith and unwavering in their commitment to their dreams,” he wrote. “They forged friendships with the Wampanoag Tribe, fostered a spirit of common purpose among themselves, and trusted in God to provide for them.”

He cited the pilgrims’ struggle while acknowledging the challenge of the coronavirus pandemic sweeping the world in 2020.

“In the midst of suffering and loss, we are witnessing the remarkable courage and boundless generosity of the American people as they come to the aid of those in need, reflecting the spirit of those first settlers who worked together to meet the needs of their community,” he wrote.

He thanked first responders, medical professionals, essential workers who fought and sacrificed during the pandemic.

“Despite unprecedented challenges, we have not faltered in the face of adversity,” he wrote, noting that the country had rebuilt medical stockpiles and developed vaccines and therapeutics in record time.

The president also thanked members of the Armed Forces, law enforcement, and first responders for their sacrifices during the holiday season.

“This Thanksgiving, we reaffirm our everlasting gratitude for all that we enjoy, and we commemorate the legacy of generosity bestowed upon us by our forbearers,” he concluded. “Although challenges remain, we will never yield in our quest to live up to the promise of our heritage. As we gather with our loved ones, we resolve with abiding faith and patriotism to celebrate the joys of freedom and cherish the hope and peace of a brighter future ahead.”

I am grateful for one of God’s greatest blessings to mankind — the free market

First of all, thank you for coming to my free market Ted Talk, and I’d like to acknowledge that you here reading this sentence are among the blessed few who actually read an article instead of simply react to the headline.

So now, let’s talk about the free market.

It really should be four words, not two. People often use the word "capitalism" to refer to the free market system, but historically, this appears to be a term used to deride those proponents of the free market. The word "capitalism" implies that the system is set up to benefit only those with capital, not all participants.

I think even a cursory review of poverty statistics over the last hundred years shows this is simply not true. Across the globe, millions of people have had their lives improved when the free market is allowed to allocate resources to achieve the most effective and profitable outcome for everyone involved.

This is why I think it should be referred to instead as the "blessed free market system." I admit, this change in nomenclature would be an uphill battle.

In so many ways, the free market has improved our lives to such a degree that it would be completely impossible for the vast majority of humanity to imagine living like their forebears did just a hundred years ago. Compare this to those living a thousand years ago. Their circumstances did not change or improve much from generation to generation for countless years. But thanks to the free market system and the societies that implemented the circumstances for it to flourish, our quality of life has improved incredibly quickly.

Here is the section that will upset many people on the right, but I must state out of good conscience and intellectual honesty. It would be absurd to sing the praises of the free market without acknowledging the abuses. Wherever there is a good thing granted to humanity by God, there will be terrible humans to take advantage of it and ruin it for others. This is of course the same with the free market.

I will not address all the critiques of the free market system except to point out one major fallacy that underlines many of them. Many, though not all, of the critics of the free market do not compare it to other systems already in place in the world but instead compare it to a magical concept of a utopian ideal that exists only in their minds. This is irrational for all the obvious reasons that readers can ascertain for themselves.

This is not to say that we should never criticize our particular expression of the free market. A great theory can be implemented in various different ways, and we should be allowed to criticize its various applications in aid of seeking to improve it for all members of our society.

Lastly, it is important to note that this system is not good because it will make you happy. It won’t. The ability to make money and save money and invest money is a good thing. But as the founders noted about the republic they created for us, it cannot give you happiness; it can only give you the opportunity to pursue your own happiness.

And that brings us to Thanksgiving. The holiday where we pause to visit with friends and family and remember what really makes us happy. Wealth doesn’t make us happy, but instead it gives us the opportunity to seek those relationships that truly make our life blessed on this miraculous Earth.

So enjoy your time with friends and family, and be grateful for all the blessings God has given you. Including the blessed free market system.

That’s it. Thank you again for coming to my Ted Talk. Enjoy your turkey, and in all things, be thankful to God.

A Letter to President Trump: “We Enter This Battle with You, Mr. President with God’s Help – If We Perish, We Perish”

Below is letter from an anonymous reader who sent this to the President of the United States.
We felt this was fitting on this national holiday.

Dear President Trump:

The 2020 elections have lived up to their expectations. They will be remembered as the critical juncture in our history, the point where either, the individual American citizen lost his or her right to freely consent for their choice of government , or the point where Americans of all creeds, with you at the helm rose up and beat back the elites.

For the past four years Mr. President, the media barraged you with an over 90 percent negative coverage, in spite of that, you prevailed in the hearts of the American public. Your political foes did their best to hamper your plans, yet you persisted. Unbeknownst to many, your foes had one last trick up their sleeves!  This year, they conducted a fraudulent election process across the US. Their mainstream media counterparts then abetted the scheme by prematurely declaring your opponent the winner. They are trying to create a sense of uncertainty to make you quit. They know the public witnessed incidences of corruption and fraud at the polls, cases that still must be litigated and settled in the courts. Only a few of the election results have been certified, yet they do not care. They just want you out!

To make the situation worse, some of your opponents are calling for the creation of blacklists of your family and supporters. In the bible, the book of Esther in the fourth chapter, we find Queen Esther facing a similar situation. She and her people were facing annihilation in the hands of their enemy by the name of Haman. He had tricked the mighty King Xerxes, to issue an edict which would result in the elimination of the Jewish people in the Medo-Persian empire. Haman’s wrath transcended the wiping out of the Jewish nation. He had a special hatred for Mordecai, the queen’s cousin, who had refused to bow down and pay homage to him. He ordered gallows to be built 75 feet high where Mordecai would be hanged in the morning.

Your adversaries have this planned for you. To be clear, it will not be hanging in the literal sense, but the result in your livelihood will be the same. Jennifer Rubin, a prominent commentator on MSNBC made these statements last fall as the other guests on the AMJOY show nodded in agreement. Quote:

It’s not only that Trump has to lose, but his enablers also have to lose. We must collectively burn down the Republican Party. We must level them. Because if there are survivors, if there are people who weather this storm, they will do it again, they will take this confirmation as hey. It just pays to ride the waves. Look at me. I have made a thrill. And so, up and down the ticket, Federal, State, Local offices, the country has to repudiate them.”

She is not the only one echoing similar sentiments. Other groups are creating “Haman lists” on various websites with the names of your supporters. They plan to institute punitive measures against your people if they get in the positions to do so. A word of caution to the elected and non-elected so-called republicans/conservatives, to those who have already jumped ship or stayed silent. You are mistaken with the notion that you will escape the “Haman lists.” The book of Esther has the following relevant warning for your kind:

Do not think to yourself that in the king’s palace you will escape any more than all the other Jews. 14 For if you keep silent at this time, relief and deliverance will rise for the Jews from another place, but you and your father’s house will perish.”

Esther 4:13,14 ESV version The past four years have been tough on you Mr. President. In hindsight, it seems the Lord was preparing you, just like Queen Esther, “for such a time as this.” Over the last few months, you have traversed the country touting messages of hope to every American. Your supporters waited in long lines and braved inclement weather just to hear you speak. They organized vehicle and boat rallies in support of you and your policies. These tens of thousands of freedom-loving citizens in towns both big and small love you. Your supporters appreciate your efforts to bring back their jobs via your championing of “Made in America”products.

These jobs had been offshored by greedy corporations seeking to maximize profit at the expense of the American worker. They have witnessed tangible change in their neighborhoods due to the opportunity zone programs. They enjoy your policies that have led America towards energy independence, decisions that have unshackled the country from harmful international treaties and unnecessary foreign wars. There is so much good you have done.

As we stand on aftermath of the 2020 elections, America itself stands on the brink. If we do not fight and win this battle, the individual citizen will never again have a voice in our government. All the decisions will be made by self-appointed experts and hand-picked politicians. We will be ruled via mandates and decrees, with no input from the public. The media will drive the narrative and dissenters will be permanently cancelled under the guise of creating unity. I hope the promise you made still holds. You promised “never to let the American people down.” You alone Mr. President stand in the unique position to lead this charge. I urge you to challenge the irregularities in all the jurisdictions where credible cases of fraud in the elections occurred. This should be more than recounting the ballots as they are already contaminated. Expose the suspect electronic voting machines, the dead voters, the addition and subtraction of votes from candidates. Unearth the disappearance of vote tallies and stuffing of ballot boxes. Not only should you go after the Swing states of Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Nevada, but you should also pursue Georgia, Virginia, Minnesota, and Arizona.

We need to uncover and clean up the political corruption that happened during the election process once and for all. The Tech giants and mainstream media have made it clear that they oppose you. I urge you to bypass them and switch to the alternative platforms. Go to where your supporters are. They are on Parler, Gab, Rumble and Bitchute. Do live interviews on The Gateway Pundit, Breitbart, OANN, RSBN, Newsmax, Dan Bongino Podcast,  Conservative Treehouse, etc. instead of the mainstream media. Go on another virtual rally on the Rush Limbaugh show. Address your people, all 73+ million strong, because they are dying to hear directly from you without any filters. Ask them to keep their Trump flags flying high in their homes. Encourage them to keep the car and boat parades going.

Finally, I urge you Mr. President, to follow the footsteps of Queen Esther. Ask your followers to go on a three-day period of prayer and fasting in preparation for battle to rescue the foundation of the nation. Your close team of confidants should do so as well. We enter this battle together with you Mr. President aided by God’s help. We know that we face insurmountable odds. We will fight with all our strength and in the end, if we perish, we perish. Sincerely, Proud Supporter.

PA Data Scientist Says He ‘Personally Observed’ USB Cards ‘Being Uploaded to Voting Machines’ over 24 Times

Gregory Stenstrom, a poll watcher in Pennsylvania and CEO of a data sciences company, testified on Wednesday he witnessed over 24 instances of USB cards being connected to voting machines during ballot counting process.

Stenstrom spoke at a State Senate Majority Policy Committee hearing in Gettysburg, PA. He addressed his observations as a poll watcher in Delaware County, PA:

I personally observed USB cards being uploaded to voting machines by the voting machine warehouse supervisor on multiple occasions. I saw this personally. I brought it to the attention of the deputy sheriff who was there stationed, who was a senior law enforcement officer, and I brought to the attention of the clerk of elections.

I brought it to their attention. I objected, and I said this person is not being observed. He’s not part of the process that I can see, and he’s walking in with baggies — which we have pictures of and it was submitted in our affidavits — and he was sticking these USBs into the machines.

So I personally witnessed that happen over 24 times. We have multiple other witnesses who saw it, including Democrat poll watchers.

Stenstrom said he had been told be U.S. Attorney William McSwain such conduct with USBs and voting machines is unusual.

“As of today, 47 USB cards are missing, and they are nowhere to be found,” added Stenstrom. “I was told personally that these 24 to 30 cards that were uploaded weren’t there.”

Stenstrom stated he and a Democrat poll watcher observed between 60,000 and 70,000 unopened mail-in ballots in a locked room:

What I observed in the locked room in the back office was 70,000 unopened mail-in ballots. They were in boxes of 500, stacked in neatly. The gentleman that came in with me is a Democrat poll watcher [and] is a forensic pathologist, a very detailed, very dedicated man and he took meticulous notes, as well, and I verified with him, “Are you seeing what I’m seeing?”

We both agreed — a GOP poll watcher and a Democrat poll watcher — that we had witnessed 60 to 70,000 [unopened mail-in ballots]. We had a little bit of a disagreement there. The problem with that was by that time the mail-in ballots had already been counted. So 120,000 mail-in ballots had already been counted, posted, and done. So my question is, where to the 70,000 ballots go?

And nobody knows we have a picture in here of a large number of boxes that I took that were filled with what appeared to be ballots sitting by the BlueCrest machine. They were there for about three hours and then they disappeared.

Stenstrom described the ballot counting process incorporating elements of “kabuki theater.”

Stenstrom was initially obstructed in his attempts to observe the goings on within the “counting center” on Election Day:

I had been told that there were 10 to 20 GOP poll watchers down there [at the counting center], and everything was well in hand, and out of curiosity I decided to go down. I arrived at six o’clock with four other gentlemen — former military and some good citizens from Delaware County — and we weren’t allowed to get in until eleven o’clock at night, and we had to get some legal help to get us in. So it took us five hours to get upstairs.

[…]

As as an expert in this, I think it’s impossible to verify the validity of about 100,000 to 120,000 votes. Delaware County’s got 425,000 registered voters. Approximately 300,000 of them voted I don’t know what they exact number … but of that number over 100,000 are in question in my mind.

Stenstrom described the election process as “forensically destructive” and lacking a verifiable chain of custody for ballots between their casting and counting.

What I saw as a friend’s six expert was an election process that was forensically destructive in the manner it was conducted, with the envelopes being separated from the ballots and gone to the other side of the room. The problem with that, from being forensically destructive, is that when you go to do a recount, okay, the machines do a pretty good job of recounting so if I have 120,000 mail-in ballots at one side of the room and envelopes at the other side of the room, it’s still going to come out 102,000 votes for Vice President Biden and 18,000 votes for President Trump. I don’t care how many times you recount those votes. Ballots are going to come out the same every time. So the notion of a recount in a forensically destructive process doesn’t work very well.

What we saw there — what I saw there — was a chain of custody in all cases that was broken. [It] was broken for the mail-in ballots, the drop box ballots, the Election Day USB card flash drives.

Stenstrom said all procedures defined by the Delaware County Board of Elections regarding the chain of custody for ballots were not followed.

There is much to be thankful for — but I don’t want to talk about it

You know those people on social media who come across as so braggadocious? I’m sure many don’t mean to be, and I’ve probably been guilty of it myself. But that’s what I want to avoid as I sit down to write about what I’m thankful for in 2020.

When COVID-19 hit the U.S. earlier this year, I got down. Really, really down. Not for myself — my life didn’t change much due to the pandemic. But I could not turn away from the countless stories of loved ones lost forever, businesses closed for good, and people lined up for miles needing food pantry bundles for the first time in their lives.

I tried to focus on what I was thankful for in order to get a grip. I thanked God for my loved ones, being employed, having groceries and a warm place to live. But I don’t want to write about that. Because too many are missing those things right now. They don’t need to hear it.

I also tried to look for any piece of silver lining that I could find in the devastation. While many pointed to the huge profits Amazon, Walmart, and other online retailers saw amid lockdown conditions, I was quietly grateful that some companies had the infrastructure for enormous delivery services in the first place. But that’s little consolation with brick and mortar stores being shuttered. The trade-off isn’t fair.

Already struggling local establishments in my town were hit with further crackdowns from the local health department recently. On Facebook, I saw video of a married couple I know insisting their business was in compliance and pleading with officials to not shut down their only source of income for feeding their family after the police were called over an alleged violation of social distancing in their bar. The couple’s other restaurant had closed months before due to slow business.

The footage brought me to tears. I felt helpless and furious watching it, not thankful that I wasn’t in their shoes.

When I think of that couple and the countless others who lost part or all of their livelihoods this year, I don’t want to talk about what I’m grateful for. I’d like to offer hope, but as lockdowns drag on and ramp up, it’s tough to point to what I have when I see what others have had stripped away ahead of what is likely the most difficult holiday season in their lives.

Please support local businesses and give more to people in need this year, if you are able. Those hurt most by this pandemic need actions more than words.
