Vanity Fair Sparks Liberal Meltdown After Calling for Hillary Clinton to Take Up Knitting

Liberal outlet Vanity Fair sparked a liberal freakout this week after calling for failed Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton do something other than politics in 2018 — including take up knitting.

The outlet published a video on its Twitter page, featuring a number of millennials offering recommendations to Clinton — who has spent much of 2017 relitigating the 2016 election — to stay away from politics and to do something else.

“Get someone on your tech staff to disable autofill on your iPhone so typing in ‘f’ doesn’t become ‘form an exploratory committee for 2020,’” jokes one millennial on the video.

“Take up a new hobby in the new year. Volunteer work, knitting, improv comedy, literally anything that will keep you from running again,” another contributor says.

While the video was no doubt supposed to be a light, comedic ribbing — with Vanity Fair an unlikely backer for President Trump — and expressing in a light-hearted form the sentiment among many Democrats that Clinton may be a drag on the party in 2018 and 2020, Clinton-backers were not impressed.

As with most criticisms of Clinton, even those that come from women, the sexism card was quickly thrown down by those offended by the jokey video.

Actress Patricia Arquette requested that the outlet “STOP TELLING WOMEN WHAT THE F-CK THEY SHOULD DO OR CAN DO. “

Arquette also said that the video was “asking for shit.”

Author Summer Brennan somehow managed to play the race card (Clinton is white.)

She wasn’t the only one:

Others just let loose with their anger:

Quickly #CancelVanityFair became a trending topic on Twitter, leading Clinton cronies such as sycophant Peter Dao to hop on board, calling her “one of the most accomplished women in the history of the United States.”

Former Clinton adviser Adam Parkhomenko was similarly unimpressed:

Apparently, the vitriol became so bad that the writer who suggested the knitting hobby had to lock her account. Journalist Glenn Greenwald said it was because she was “subjected to the most foul vitriol and abuse, endlessly, over several days.”

Vanity Fair later backed down on the video, with a spokeswoman telling the Washington Post.  “It was an attempt at humor and we regret that it missed the mark.”

Trump Puts Obama to Shame With Special Police Request During Holiday Visit

The holidays are a time to show respect for those who serve us. President Trump just did this in a major way — and it put Barack Obama to shame.

As most of you likely know, the president is spending his Christmas break down at his Mar-a-Lago resort down in Florida. That takes a considerable amount of security presence, and not just by the Secret Service.

What you probably didn’t know, however, is how the Trumps treated those who were assigned to the security detail. It didn’t get a lot of play in the press — although CNN’s Noah Gray tweeted about it.

Take a look:

TRENDING: Trump Makes Alaska Great Again, Brings Back Gold Mine Obama Nearly Buried

Yes, police, Secret Service and the people of the White House Military Office were all treated to “a full Christmas spread” at the request of the president — and all out of the president’s pocket, without a dime apparently spent for the dinner by taxpayers.

They even made sure that every shift got a meal by offering meals from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.

That’s a pretty big move to begin with, but it looks positively great when you consider the previous White House’s acrimonious relationship with the nation’s police.

It was so bad that in summer of 2016, right after five Dallas police officers were shot and killed during a Black Lives Matter march, the executive director of the National Association of Police Organizations said that then-President Obama had engendered a “war on cops.”

William Johnson said that the “continued appeasements at the federal level (by the Obama administration) with the Department of Justice, their appeasement of violent criminals, their refusal to condemn movements like Black Lives Matter, actively calling for the death of police officers, that type of thing, all the while blaming police for the problems in this country has led directly to the climate that has made Dallas possible.”

RELATED: Trump’s Message To Military On Christmas Had 1 Major Difference From Obama’s Presidency

As 2017 comes to an end, it’s always a good time to reflect on what made this year different than last year — especially in politics.

At least at the White House, one thing that’s very different is a palpable respect for law enforcement. That newfound level of respect has made itself known in a number of ways, but the spread paid for out of the president’s pocket is a pretty effective synecdoche for the whole thing.

What the Trumps did on Christmas wasn’t the kind of thing that the Obamas were known to do. The last president and his family kept their distance from law enforcement and those assigned to protect them. Trump, apparently, is changing that in a huge way.

NYT’s Paul Krugman: ‘Pink Pussy Hats’ Are the ‘Symbol of Our Delivery from Evil’

New York Times columnist Paul Krugman clowned it up on Tuesday by suggesting that the “pink pussy hats” of the Women’s March in January “should be the symbol of our delivery from evil.” Just put a pussy hat on the Statue of Liberty and call it a day! His column was titled “America Is Not Yet Lost.”

Early this year the commentator David Frum warned that the slide into authoritarianism would be unstoppable “if people retreat into private life, if critics grow quieter, if cynicism becomes endemic.” But so far that hasn’t happened.

What we’ve seen instead is the emergence of a highly energized resistance. That resistance made itself visible literally the day after Trump took office, with the huge women’s marches that took place on Jan. 21, dwarfing the thin crowds at the inauguration. If American democracy survives this terrible episode, I vote that we make pink pussy hats the symbol of our delivery from evil.

At least Krugman wasn’t silly enough to call David Frum a “conservative.”

Like a capital-D Democrat, Krugman warned that Evil would prevail as long as Republicans held majority power: “Let’s be clear: America as we know it is still in mortal danger. Republicans still control all the levers of federal power, and never in the course of our nation’s history have we been ruled by people less trustworthy….as long as Republicans control Congress, constitutional checks and balances are effectively a dead letter.” So Democrats will have to vote them out.

Krugman began by proclaiming Trump is just as horrible as expected:

Donald Trump has been every bit as horrible as one might have expected; he continues, day after day, to prove himself utterly unfit for office, morally and intellectually. And the Republican Party — including so-called moderates — turns out, if anything, to be even worse than one might have expected.

This is a bit comical….since conservative Twitter recalled what Crystal Ball Krugman originally expected after Trump emerged victorious was that the stock market would never recover:

It really does now look like President Donald J. Trump, and markets are plunging. When might we expect them to recover?

Frankly, I find it hard to care much, even though this is my specialty. The disaster for America and the world has so many aspects that the economic ramifications are way down my list of things to fear.

Still, I guess people want an answer: If the question is when markets will recover, a first-pass answer is never.

What? CBS Claims Trump Voters Don’t Want Trump To Repeal ObamaCare

In another baffling display of disconnect, CBS News blamed President Trump’s low poll numbers on Trump voters being pro-ObamaCare.

During the December 27 CBS This Morning, National Correspondent Chip Reid announced that Trump’s push to repeal ObamaCare “could hurt many of his own supporters.”

Reid turned to Slate’s Jamelle Bouie (also a CBS News political analyst). “I do think this is dangerous game for the president,” Bouie said. “One of his single largest drops in popularity came in March, after congressional Republicans began moving ahead with ObamaCare repeal.” As a reminder to people unfamiliar with Bouie, he’s the political analyst who wrote back in November that it was “abhorrent” and “perverse” to suggest that Trump voters were “good” people.

The segment also pointed to the number of ObamaCare sign-ups this year in red states, seeming to imply that these sign-ups showed support for the program by Trump voters. “According to one respected analyst, 62% of this year’s ObamaCare enrollees live in states that President Trump won in 2016,” Reid reported. Reid also quoted Bouie as saying that “the big surprise is that red states are signing up faster than blue states.”

The “respected analyst” Chip Reid is referring to is likely The Associated Press, which recently released a report on government data which “found that 7.3 million of the 8.8 million consumers signed up so far for next year come from states Trump won in the 2016 presidential election.” However, there is no indication in the data of how many of these people were Trump supporters, or how many signed up simply to avoid paying the penalty for not having insurance.

Trump’s opposition to ObamaCare certainly polls low – among journalists. According to the MRC’s extensive Bias by the Minute project, in the first 80 days of the Trump presidency (from January 20 to April 9), the effort to repeal ObamaCare was the third most covered Trump-related topic by the evening news shows on ABC, CBS and NBC with 152 minutes of coverage. 94 percent of this coverage was negative.

In contrast, on September 15, a Politico-Harvard poll showed that a repeal of ObamaCare topped “GOP voters’ to-do lists.” According to the Politico write up about the poll: “Among Republican respondents, repealing Obamacare was the most critical priority, outpacing other concerns like tax reform (34 percent said that the issue was ‘extremely important’) and building a border wall (28 percent thought it was ‘extremely important’).”

During the Obama administration, ABC, CBS and NBC all repeatedly either failed to report on ObamaCare’s failures or downplayed them.

TRANSCRIPT:

DANA JACOBSON: President Trump on vacation in Florida promises more bipartisanship in the new year. The president tweeted the Republicans and Democrats will come together on a new plan to replace Obamacare. Chip Reid is in West Palm Beach Florida near the President’s Mar-a-Lago resort. Chip, good morning.

CHIP REID: Good morning. President Trump played golf yesterday with Georgia Senator David Perdue, a big proponent of repealing Obamacare. Of course, that’s also a big priority for President Trump next year. But the numbers suggest that could hurt many of his own supporters.

PRESIDENT TRUMP: It ultimately leads to the end of Obamacare. Essentially, I think Obamacare is over.

REID: The president’s prediction of the demise of Obamacare comes as about 8.8 million Americans in 39 states signed up for coverage at Healthcare.gov this fall. That’s down just 4.4% from last year, despite the trump administration pulling advertising and slashing the enrollment period from 90 days to 45.

JAMELLE BOUIE: The fundamental reality on health care is that people want health insurance.

REID: CBS News and Slate political analyst Jamelle Bouie said the big surprise is that red states are signing up faster than blue states.

Both Republicans and Democrats view health care as a top priority for Congress and President Trump, making it a central issue in the upcoming midterm elections. The Congressional Budget Office projects that repealing the Individual Mandate will leave about 13 million more people without coverage by 2027. And, according to one respected analyst, 62% of this year’s Obamacare enrollees live in states that President Trump won in 2016.

JAMELLE BOUIE: I do think this is dangerous game for the president. One of his single largest drops in popularity came in March, after congressional Republicans began moving ahead with Obamacare repeal.

REID: In addition to his tweet on health care, the president also sent out a tweet on the Russia investigation, in which he referred to the FBI as tainted. He also sent out a tweet about his tax cuts predicting they would boost jobs and the stock market increase next year. Bianna?

Facing the Prospect of Further Ratings Decline, the NFL Cancels ‘Sunday Night Football’ for Week 17

Facing the Prospect of Further Ratings Decline, the NFL Cancels ‘Sunday Night Football’ for Week 17

After an entire season spent battling anthem protests, collapsing ratings, and other political controversy; on the final scheduled primetime game of the year, the NFL has decided to say: No Mas.

The NFL has decided to cancel the Week 17 edition of Sunday Night Football. The league announced on Twitter:

While the league says that their decision to cancel the game is based on being “fair” to the fans. By ensuring that all games with playoff implications are played at the same time. There are other, more substantive reasons for the NFL to reschedule.

As CNN reports, the last time the NFL held a SNF game on New Year’s Eve, it did not go well.

“The last time the NFL held a Sunday night football game on New Year’s Eve was in 2006, when the Chicago Bears hosted the Green Bay Packers. It was quarterback Brett Favre’s last game with the Packers (and widely expected to be his last game ever). Still, only 13.4 million people watched that game, about a quarter fewer than the average Sunday Night Football game that season.”

Not only did that game tank in what was thought to be Brett Favre’s final appearance, that was back when the NFL’s ratings were good. Imagine how badly a New Year’s Eve SNF game would do in 2017, with no Brett Favre and terrible ratings?

To put in perspective how bad the ratings have been for NBC’s SNF, the Christmas Eve edition of SNF, tied a 6-year low in the ratings. The week before that, saw a 35% percent ratings drop from the previous year.

With that kind of “momentum,” it’s easy to understand why NBC would want to save itself from what would have been a massive ratings embarrassment.

CNN Loses It After Trump Blocks View of Golf Course With Box Truck

After not caring about President Obama’s golf habit for eight years, CNN suddenly finds it imperative for a functioning democracy for them to document every stroke of President Trump’s outings at his courses. During CNN Newsroom on Wednesday, fill-in host Don Lemon and reporter Dan Merica were losing their minds over someone parking a box truck to block a gap in some hedges CNN was using to peep on the President.

The network’s mouth foaming outrage began on Tuesday when political reporter Manu Raju gloated on Twitter that part of Trump’s round of golf was “captured by CNN cameras.” Raju’s description of his colleagues “capturing” video of Trump sounded more like they were trying to film a nature documentary or hunting Bigfoot rather than doing serious reporting. CNN’s escapades in the bushes marked them for widespread ridicule on social media.

Come Wednesday, someone who CNN couldn’t identify parked a white box truck in front of the “breach” in the shrubs, and for CNN the world looked bleak. “So Dan, you’re in West Palm Beach [, Florida], you’re traveling with the President, understand he played another round of golf today. CNN got video of the President playing golf for the last few days. But I understand something different happened today. What was it,” Lemon asked Merica is a hushed and serious tone.

After explaining how CNN’s job was to document the President’s daily activates and complaining about how the White House doesn’t always tell them what he’s doing, Merica whined about the box truck and claimed it was a part of some “larger” issue:

Today, a big white box truck parked in front trying to obscure our shot of President Trump golfing. Now it may seem trivial, but it is important to give video as the President does these things on a daily basis. And goes to something that is larger, the President and the White House have tried to obscure the fact that President Trump golfs on a regular basis.

Merica droned on about how Trump had golfed 87 times since taking office despite criticizing President Obama for golfing a lot. He also reported how CNN pestered “the White House, to the Secret Service, and to the sheriff’s office down here to confirm was this their truck…

I believe the word is hypocrisy, Dan, hypocrisy because he criticized the former president so much,” Lemon pompously declared before getting combative with the network’s critics. “And for those who may be criticizing CNN, we have video of every president playing golf, President Bush video of him, President Obama playing golf…

But Lemon was right, the word was hypocrisy, or more specifically CNN’s hypocrisy. When Obama was gallivanting around to go golfing, CNN didn’t find it noteworthy at all. Even when Obama rushed off to play golf after ISIS released video of journalist James Foley being beheaded, the network wasn’t really aghast. On CNN New Day, Bloomberg reporter and CNN commentator Margaret Talev huffed at criticism saying: “The man wants to go out for a few hours and be left alone.

DON LEMON: So Dan, you’re in West Palm Beach [, Florida], you’re traveling with the President, understand he played another round of golf today. CNN got video of the President playing golf for the last few days. But I understand something different happened today. What was it?

DAN MERICA: You know, our job down here is to cover the President to tell our viewers what is he doing on daily basis. Over the last few days, we’ve gotten video of the President golfing at his nearby golf club here in West Palm Beach. There is a break in the hedges really. The President doesn’t really and his staff doesn’t tell us when he is golfing. And we have taken to going outside the golf course and filming him as he golfs through the break in hedges near the club.

According to our count, he has visited one of his golf courses 87 times as President. This is a man who ran for president, who criticized Barack Obama regularly golfing during his presidency. But that criticism hasn’t continued into the Trump presidency. President Trump has regularly visited these golf courses that he owns. And White House aides have been hesitant to ever confirm that he is golfing. And this box truck and the video that we have is another example of the White House trying to obscure. We ‘ve reached out to the White House, to the Secret Service, and to the sheriff’s office down here to confirm was this their truck we haven’t gotten many responses back so far, Don.

LEMON: I believe the word is hypocrisy, Dan, hypocrisy because he criticized the former president so much. And for those who may be criticizing CNN, we have video of every president playing golf, President Bush video of him, President Obama playing golf, as Dan Merica said that’s what we do, we are there to report and show the American people what the president does every day.

Oh look, there is President Obama playing golf. There is no difference. Imagine that. We got video of President Obama playing golf. And it’s not just President Trump. Hmm. It’s not a conspiracy Dan, I thought it was.

Senate Waited Until Christmas To Reveal How Many Harassment Settlements Were Paid Out

And we were never told about this stuff, nor did we ever approve it. And they all knew.

Via Daily Caller:

As the Christmas holiday weekend set in, the Senate Rules and Administration Committee released a report revealing the Senate has spent $1.5 million on workplace harassment settlements since 1998.

The data, provided by the Office of Compliance, a little known administrative body that has quietly settled dozens of complaints against congressional offices, provides little by way of details, beyond an itemized list of violations and the corresponding settlement.

GOP Sen. Richard Shelby of Alabama, who chairs the Rules Committee, said further particulars cannot be made public, in order to respect the confidentiality afforded to victims.

Prager U: Where Does the Federal Government Get All That Money?

PragerU and Information Station team-up for the new educational short “Where Does the Federal Government Get All That Money?” The video breaks down the individual income tax and how much the government is taking from the taxpayer.

“Every year the U.S. federal government collects more than $3 trillion in taxes, and almost half of that comes from you and me, the individual income taxpayers,” the narrator explains. “These are the taxes that come out of your paycheck or maybe you pay quarterly. Either way… it’s a lot of money, so it’s worth learning more about!”

The video breaks down five little known facts about the federal income tax.

“Number one: The individual income tax has been the largest source of federal government revenue since 1950… accounting for 47.3 percent of revenue in 2016.”

That is a large chunk of the bill that taxpayers are covering for government programs.

“Number two: While the name ‘individual income tax’ implies that only individual Americans pay the tax, many small businesses are subject to it as well. A majority of small businesses are set up as ‘pass-through’ entities, which means that business profits are included on the owner’s individual tax sheet and is thus taxed at the individual rate which is higher than the rates big corporations pay.”

Citing 2016 data, the narrator notes that “44 percent of Americans, or roughly 77 million people, don’t pay any federal income taxes at all.”

Then there’s all the wasted time and money on simply filling out and paying tax returns. “A combined 2.6 billion man hours is spent every year filling out tax returns. That’s an average of 17 hours per American tax filer.”

Taxes should be easy to file, not complicated to the point of taking almost twice an average work day to complete.

“And lastly number five: According to the most recent data from the Tax Foundation, the top one percent of taxpayers contribute roughly 40 percent of all federal income taxes collected.”

The narrator goes on to explain that the bottom 50 percent pay less than 3 percent of total tax revenues, which destroys the Left’s notion that the top earners aren’t paying their “fair share.”

Judge: U.S. Military Must Provide Lawyer For American Accused Of Fighting For ISIS In Syria

Turn him over to the Iraqis for prosecution.

Via Fox News:

A federal judge ruled Saturday that the U.S. military must provide legal counsel to an American citizen who was picked up months ago on the Syrian battlefield and accused of fighting with Islamic State militants.

The unidentified American, who has not been charged, surrendered to U.S.-backed fighters in Syria around Sept. 12 and is currently being held in Iraq as an unlawful enemy combatant.

The American Civil Liberties Union filed a court petition challenging his detention and asking to act on his behalf to provide him access to legal counsel.

Late last month, the U.S. government acknowledged that it has detained an American citizen accused of fighting with IS for months without fulfilling his request to see a lawyer. Responding to a court order, the government said the man picked up on the Syrian battlefield indicated he was willing to talk to FBI agents but “felt he should have an attorney present.”

In her ruling, U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan denied the Defense Department’s motion to dismiss the matter and ordered the military to let the ACLU “immediate and unmonitored access to the detainee” so that it can determine whether he wants the ACLU to represent him. The judge also ordered the Defense Department not to transfer the detainee until the ACLU tells the court of the detainee’s wishes.

“This is a landmark ruling that rejects the Trump administration’s unprecedented attempt to block an American citizen from challenging his executive imprisonment,” said Jonathan Hafetz, senior staff attorney for the ACLU. “Ensuring citizens detained by the government have access to a lawyer and a court is essential to preserving the Constitution and the rule of law in America.”
