Here’s a tip: Submarines are supposed to run underwater. They are not, however, designed to be filled with water.

India’s navy learned that lesson the hard way after an embarrassing mistake with their flagship nuclear submarine left it crippled and out of operation.

According to The Hindu, the vessel INS Arihant is the first nuclear-powered sub built by India, and was intended to be a linchpin in the nation’s defense plans. However, the craft has not sailed for over 10 months after “human error” caused a port in the hull to stay open and water to pour in.

“Arihant’s propulsion compartment was damaged after water entered it,” the Indian newspaper reported.

“A naval source said water rushed in as a hatch on the rear side was left open by mistake while it was at harbour. Since the accident, the submarine, built under the Advanced Technology Vessel project (ATV), has been undergoing repairs and clean up,” The Hindu continued.

The problem isn’t just the seawater that rushed in, but also sensitive pipes within the submarine that were damaged by the salt-heavy sea.

“Indian authorities likely felt that pipes exposed to corrosive seawater couldn’t be trusted again, particularly pipes that carry pressurized water coolant to and from the ship’s 83 megawatt nuclear reactor,” Popular Mechanics explained.

“Failing pipes could not only endanger the ship’s crew but the entire submarine… and her nuclear weapons,” the technology magazine elaborated.

To call it an expensive mistake would be putting it mildly.

“India’s first ballistic missile submarine is the result of a $2.9 billion submarine technology program. Construction on Arihant began in 2009, and the ship was commissioned into the Indian Navy seven years later in October 2016,” said Popular Mechanics.

The U.S. magazine posed a question that must be at the top of the Indian admiralty’s minds.

“How in the world could a $2.9 billion submarine be sidelined by a simple mistake? Not leaving hatches open that could potentially sink a ship, particularly a submarine, is basic common sense.”

“Why were the propulsion section and nuclear reactor on the 364-foot long submarine unattended so the flooding went unnoticed as long as it did?” the magazine wondered.

The accident is particularly embarrassing considering how rare and prestigious a working nuclear submarine program is in the world. There are only six nations with ballistic nuclear submarines: China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom, India, and of course the good ol’ U.S. of A.

It just goes to show how vital it is to cover the basics, no matter how “advanced” the piece of military hardware. That’s an important reminder for America as well, and our Navy would be wise to learn from other people’s mistakes.

Federal District Court Judge Gonzalo Curiel, whom President Donald Trump criticized during the 2016 presidential campaign, will hear a case against Trump’s proposed border wall project in a San Diego courtroom on Friday.

The San Diego-area ABC News affiliate reports:

The case, which is being brought by the state of California and multiple groups, challenges the Department of Homeland Security’s power to waive environmental laws in their construction of a border wall.

District Court Judge Gonzalo Curiel is scheduled to hear the case on Friday in his San Diego courtroom.

The plaintiffs argue that the Trump administration is violating the Constitution and state laws because it is not “conducting any environmental review or complying with any environmental protection laws.” But the federal government, citing a 1996 immigration law, says it has the authority to waive environmental laws in order to build the wall, a top campaign promise of Trump’s.

The administration notes that previous challenges to this law have been unsuccessful, saying it “has been repeatedly upheld in the face of legal challenges.”

Trump criticized Judge Curiel in 2016 when he was presiding over a fraud lawsuit filed against Trump University.

In an interview with Chris Wallace on Fox News Sunday, Trump reiterated earlier claimsthat the federal judge presiding in a fraud case against Trump University in California could be biased against him simply because he is Hispanic.

Judge Gonzalo P. Curiel, of the Southern District of California, was nominated by President Barack Obama, and later confirmed by voice vote in the Senate in 2012 without controversy.

After attending Indiana University for both college and law school, and before becoming a judge, he served for 17 years as a federal prosecutor in California, specializing in narcotics–which, theoretically, should endear him to Trump, who has made stopping the flow of drugs a key point in his border policy. Curiel also happens to be Mexican-American.

Trump has not explained clearly why Curiel’s background means he would be unfair, and he has not said whether he plans to ask the judge to recuse himself.

In he event, Judge Curiel delayed the case until after Election Day. The parties settled for $25 million, with “no admission of liability or wrongdoing by Trump or Trump University,” according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Let it be recognized that Democrat Nancy Pelosi spoke for the longest amount of time in over a century when she mounted what some are referring to as a “filibuster” on the House floor.

In another stupid Democrat trick, the San Francisco septuagenarian defended illegal in an epic display of why her party is out of touch with mainstream America. Pelosi has never seen fit to speak for even a fraction of the time defending actual American citizens and her stunt will do little for the “Dreamers” although it’s a slam dunk that it will end up in GOP campaign ads this fall.

And she did it in heels too!

Pelosi has been one of the loudest voices advocating for the restoration of Obama’s DACA program that many argue puts natural born citizens at a disadvantage in the job market by granting work permits to people who are not here legally.

According to the Associated Press “Pelosi stages 8-hour speech to push for vote for ‘dreamers’”:

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi staged a record-breaking, eight-hour speech Wednesday in an attempt to force a House vote on protections for the “Dreamer” immigrants — and to prove to an increasingly angry wing of progressives and activists that she has done all she could.

Wearing four-inch heels and forgoing any breaks, Pelosi spent much of the rare talkathon reading personal letters from the young immigrants whose temporary protection from deportation is set to expire next month. The California Democrat quoted from the Bible and Pope Francis, as Democrats took turns sitting behind her in support. The Office of the House Historian said it was the longest continuous speech in the chamber on record.

“You see, these people are being deported,” Pelosi said around hour six of her speech. “We can do something today to at least make whole the children.”

The performance had no immediate impact on Republican leaders who have not agreed to a vote. But it was perhaps equally aimed at the liberal wing of Pelosi’s own party, who seethed Wednesday as Democrats in the Senate cut a budget deal that could quickly steal the momentum behind the effort to resolve the Dreamers’ plight.

While she spoke on the House floor, immigration activists rallied in Washington and threaten political retribution against the congressional Democrats who abandoned the strategy of demanding that a budget deal be paired with an immigration deal. The fresh threats exposed deepening divisions within a Democratic Party struggling to address a liberal priority in Republican-controlled Washington.

Pelosi had little original to say but rather delivered stories of illegal aliens that were chosen to bring a tear to the eye of even the most cynical, but it is not likely to accomplish anything of substance.

This was strictly Pelosi covering her own lousy ass with a very vocal segment of the party base and one that her home state of California places a high priority on for the low-cost labor provided by the illegals.

There are already rumbles that Pelosi may face an internal revolt from younger Democrats if that “blue wave” that she has been promising fails to materialize in November.

By engaging in such an obvious stunt as on Wednesday, Pelosi once again went on record that her party is more concerned with illegal aliens than American citizens.

That may sell well in California, but it could be a deal killer just about everywhere else.

In case you didn’t know that democrats care more about illegal aliens than American citizens, Nancy Pelosi has proclaimed that border jumpers are the ones who really matter in this country. Then again, democrats did shut down the government to protect illegal aliens so you probably already knew where their loyalties lie.

This is a real tweet that the House Minority Leader sent out, just one day after saying her grandson wished he was an illegal alien:

Holy shit! Is this the craziest thing she’s ever said, or what? I mean, she’s definitely nuts, but there isn’t one thing here that is true or non-horrible.

First off, any “Go Nancy Go” messages she may be receiving are her constituents begging her to retire. It’s the rest of the Democratic Party wishing she’d ride off into the sunset and stop the destruction she’s done to their brand. I’m sure many others are simply hoping Nancy Pelosi would go f*ck herself.

Next she says that “Dreamers” and their parents are who really matters here. “Here” is the United States of America and Dreamers and their parents are illegal aliens. There’s no gray area in this, she’s not just saying that illegal aliens matter more than Americans, but they are the only ones who matter. In other words, Americans don’t matter in America. I’ve known for some time that this is the democrats’ attitude, but I never thought I’d see one of them actually say it.

Pelosi also thanks illegal aliens for sneaking into this country and bringing their illegal alien children with them. Put another way: she is praising scumbag lawbreakers for destroying lives and burdening the American people (who she says don’t matter) with billions of unnecessary spending every year.

As a final indignation, Pelosi indicates that she considers these illegal aliens as Americans. Not the kind of Americans she hates like you and I, but the kind the democrats like which is people who don’t belong here and can’t vote but do anyways. She literally says these law-breaking foreign citizens are part of “our American family.”

Even if Republicans cave with a DACA law, the Dreamers are not going to be US citizens, they will be legal residents. Their parents will never be US citizens. Whatever happens, none of these illegal aliens are currently US citizens, which is the only requirement necessary to be an American.

Personally I’m glad Pelosi put this out in the open. This will further kill democrats in the midterm elections. Even moderate liberals (is there such a thing?) are going to be turned off by a party leader saying that Americans don’t matter, while claiming illegal aliens are the only important group of people. This is a message that might work in radical leftist California but in the rest of the country it just means GOP votes.

The liberal outrage du jour or du week (sorry I don’t know the French word for week and I don’t feel like looking it up) is that President Trump wants to have a military parade in Washington DC to honor the men and women of our military. The leftist freak-out has them calling Trump a dictator and a fascist. Interestingly enough, democrat Chuck Schumer also wanted a military parade but for some reason he wasn’t viewed as the second coming of Joseph Stalin nor was he compared to Hitler or Kim Jong Un.

Here’s a CBS report from 2014 where the liberal media calls a military parade “an honor reserved for heroes and champions.” Then, they got Schumer saying this about holding a parade to honor soldiers who fought the War on Terror:

“After all, they risked their lives to protect us. They experienced terrible trauma and tragedy along the way,” said Scumer.

Schumer petitioned the Department of Defense to hold a military parade in New York City. This parade would have included marching soldiers, military bands, and fighter jet fly-overs. You may be wondering why this parade never happened. Well, Schumer called for it to occur as soon as combat operations were over in Iraq and Afghanistan, but Obama never really came through with his promise to pull the US out of those regions.

The stated purpose of Schumer’s proposed parade was to show American soldiers that the entire country is behind them. Now that Trump is President, the liberals literally hate our military so that ship has sailed. With Trump’s proposed military parade, the left is planning a massive protest against our fighting men and women.

So why was a military parade a great idea 4 years ago and now it’s something only a fascist dictator would want? That’s an easy answer: Trump Derangement Syndrome. Liberals are so conditioned to oppose the freely-elected President of the United States that anything he says or does is instantly the worst thing ever on the left.

I think the President should use this bizarre affliction to his advantage and hit liberals with some reverse psychology. He should say that the only way to Make America Great Again is by not building a border wall. Within minutes Maxine Waters would introduce a bill funding a border wall and calling Trump a racist for not wanting one. Then Trump could say he wants to fully implement and expand ObamaCare and by the end of the week it would be repealed.

Democrats may be full of shit, but they are predictable. I see no reason why this shouldn’t be fully exploited.
