Nikki Haley Sets UN on Fire: If You Don’t Move, Our Military Will

One of the pleasantly surprising bright spots of President Donald Trump’s administration has been the appointment of Nikki Haley as the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, as she has taken a decidedly blunt and no-nonsense, call-it-like-we-see-it American attitude to the international organization.

Haley delivered yet another fiery speech to the U.N. Security Council on Monday, in which she placed the council on notice for its utter failure to maintain a temporary cease-fire agreement in Syria. She explicitly called out Russia and Syria, as well as Iran, for their roles in the continued fighting in violation of a recent Security Council resolution, according to TheBlaze.

Her eight-minute speech boiled down to one pointed message: If the U.N. doesn’t do anything to address the contempt with which the Security Council resolution was treated by Russia and Syria, the U.S. military will.

As Haley began, she noted all of the promises made by Russia in regard to enforcing the resolution which imposed a 30-day cease-fire in the area of Ghouta, a suburb of Damascus, and pointed out how fighting and bombing was still ongoing in spite of the agreement that Russia claimed to support.

She further noted that Russia and Syria had taken advantage of a “loophole” in the agreement that allowed for military action against terrorist organizations like al-Qaida and the Islamic State group by essentially declaring all opposition groups and civilians in Ghouta to be “terrorists” and open to attack.

“This is no cease-fire,” Haley asserted. “This is the Assad regime, Iran and Russia continuing to wage war against their political opponents.”

“If we can’t save families that haven’t seen the sun for weeks because they have been hiding underground to escape barrel bombs,” she continued, “then the Security Council is as impotent as its worst critics say it is.”

“When the international community consistently fails to act, there are times when states are compelled to take their own action,” Haley said, as she reminded the council of the U.S. missile strikes in April 2017 in response to Syrian chemical attacks on civilians.

“We warn any nation that is determined to impose its will through chemical attacks and inhuman suffering, most especially the outlaw Syrian regime, the United States remains prepared to act if we must,” she added. “It is not the path we prefer, but it is a path we have demonstrated we will take, and we are prepared to take again.”

You can watch Haley’s tough speech right here. Take note of the tone and occasional sharp side-eye toward the Russian and Syrian representatives as she calls them out for their duplicity in front of the spineless council.

According to The Hill, Haley’s warning to the U.N. Security Council came amid reports heavy fighting and bombings in and around Ghouta — which were preventing the delivery of humanitarian aid and evacuation of sick and wounded civilians from the besieged city — as well as allegations of chemical attacks using chlorine gas in the area.

Do you approve of the job Nikki Haley has done as U.S. Ambassador to the U.N.?

It is worth noting that Haley was not entirely alone in her threat to the U.N. that the U.S. would take military action to enforce the cease-fire if necessary. Defense Secretary James Mattis informed the Syrian government that “it would be unwise for them to use weaponized gas” in response to the alleged chemical attacks, and added that Trump had “full political maneuver room” to take any sort of action he deemed necessary to bring peace to the war-torn region.

RELATED: After 1 Year of Trump, Taliban Send Pleading Letter to American Voters

Haley was also backed up by none other than French President Emmanuel Macron, who stated recently at a news conference in India in response to the alleged chemical attacks in Ghouta, that France was prepared to carry out airstrikes and other military action to halt the travesty and enforce the cease-fire.

Haley, on behalf of Trump, has made it crystal clear to the U.N. that the era of “strategic patience” and leading from behind are over and done with, and if the international community doesn’t see fit to do what must be done to obtain peace and stability, America has no problem rolling up her sleeves to do what is necessary.

Please share this on Facebook so everyone can see how Nikki Haley just put Russia, Syria, Iran and the rest of the U.N. Security Council on notice for their failure to uphold an agreed-upon temporary cease-fire in Syria.

Hawaii Declines Requests For Records On False Missile Alert By A Low-Level State Employee

Hawaii is under the jurisdiction of the Ninth Circuit which will side with Hawaii.

HONOLULU (AP) — Hawaii officials have repeatedly pointed to a low-level state employee and a breakdown in his agency’s leadership as the main cause for a January missile alert that left hundreds of thousands of islanders thinking they might die in a nuclear blast. But efforts to find out more about what other top officials did that day have been stymied at the highest levels of state government.

Hawaii law says opening the government to public scrutiny “is the only viable and reasonable method of protecting the public’s interest.”

But for nearly two months, Gov. David Ige’s office has refused to provide information requested by The Associated Press that could show how he and other officials handled the crisis.

Citing open records law exemptions, Ige’s office has declined to release phone logs, text messages, instant messages and calendars related to the missile alert, even as the state moves forward with recommendations to implement a new missile alert system .

His office says it does not keep those documents.

“We are not aware of any state agency that maintains the governor’s office cell/office phone records, instant messages or text messages,” Ige’s Senior Special Assistant Donna Fujimoto-Saka said in an email.

She also said Ige’s office receives bills from the phone company, “but these bills do not contain any record of incoming or outgoing calls.”

R. Brian Black, executive director of the Civil Beat Law Center for the Public Interest in Honolulu, says the governor’s office is not being consistent with the spirit of Hawaii’s open records law.

“There is ultimately a fear amongst many public officials of revealing any information, and so if they have the authority anywhere to withhold it, they will,” he said.

The law center, which advocates for open government in Hawaii, had hoped Ige’s administration would set a “top-down approach” to promoting transparency, Black said.

“They have done things in that regard, but this is not a great example,” he said.

The AP sent a similar request for emails, phone logs and text messages to the Hawaii Emergency Management Agency, the department that sent the alert, on Feb. 5. It has not yet received any documents from the agency.

Hawaii isn’t alone in its handling of records for cellphones, text messages and other modern forms of communication.

Accessing such documents is a problem “across all levels of government” in the United States, in part because many agencies lack policies and practices for storing, archiving and searching them, said Adam Marshall, Knight Foundation litigation attorney for the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press based in Washington.

“That can be really problematic, especially when they show what the government officials are doing in their official capacity,” Marshall said.

Ige’s office has agreed to release some documents requested by the AP, primarily emails that are subject to redaction, but has levied hefty fees to process them. An initial estimate of nearly $4,500 was given to fill a request for emails to and from the governor’s staff on the day of the alert. A narrowed request for four senior staff members’ emails was met with a roughly $1,500 fee.

The GOP wants terminal patients to have a chance to try

I realize everyone is in a tizzy over the Secretary of State shuffle, but Congress is back to work and there’s a vote today on a rather important bill. It involves actual improvements to healthcare rather than the usual political battles. House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy sent out an announcement about it yesterday, and if passed, it will allow easier access to experimental drugs for terminally ill patients who have run out of conventional options.

“We are a resilient and resourceful nation, and when faced with long odds, Americans should be given the opportunity to harness our country’s vast medical innovation by accessing experimental treatments. As President Trump said in his State of the Union, and as Vice President Pence has long advocated, no one should have to look beyond the United States and our world-class health providers for hope. This bill was subject to months of negotiations and I thank Chairman Walden (OR-02), Representatives Brian Fitzpatrick (PA-08) and Andy Biggs (AZ-05), and Senator Ron Johnson (PA) for their commitment to getting it ready for floor action. The House will consider Right to Try on Tuesday, March 13th. Following its passage, I look forward to swift Senate action so more Americans facing dire circumstances can find some light in their darkest moments.”

Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Greg Walden (R-OR) and Health Subcommittee Chairman Michael C. Burgess, M.D. (R-TX) released some details of the bill which you can read here. A few of the key provisions, recently modified to address the concerns of some members from both sides of the aisle, include:

  • Establish a robust informed consent to access unapproved drugs
  • Specify that any unapproved drug used in the new alternative pathway must have an active application and is not the subject of a clinical hold
  • Include a sponsor and manufacturer notification to the FDA after they make an unapproved drug available to an eligible patient
  • Guard patients from manufacturers purposefully misbranding or mislabeling drugs
  • Provide liability protections for manufacturers, sponsors, physicians, clinical investigators, and hospitals that participate in the existing expanded access program and the new alternative pathway; unless there is reckless or willful misconduct, gross negligence, or an intentional tort
  • Obligate sponsors and manufacturers to report adverse events in real time, through notification to the FDA – both within the existing expanded access program and through the new alternative pathway

To be clear, this has absolutely nothing to do with euthanasia, a topic which upsets many conservatives for obvious reasons. There are always experimental drugs in the pipeline which may eventually offer hope for the otherwise terminally ill, but it takes years to get approval to bring them to market. Promising ones which are undergoing trials can be made available to such patients as a course of last resort but approval is required. It’s a touchy subject because you don’t want to build up false hope in the patients or their families. At the same time, pharmaceutical companies don’t want to risk exposure to lawsuits if the drug fails to work or produces a negative, unintended side effect.

But as long as both the manufacturer and the patient are going into the experiment with clear eyes, why wouldn’t you give the patient the right to try, as the bill’s name implies? It could also speed the approval of successful drugs if they wind up being beneficial on real subjects facing those specific diseases. Yes, it’s a program which must be implemented carefully to avoid abuse, but it’s a risk worth taking if the use of such drugs is entirely voluntary on the part of the patient and their family.

Federal Judge Dismisses Lawsuit against Trump Administration’s End to Obamacare’s Contraception Mandate

Federal Judge Dismisses Lawsuit against Trump Administration’s End to Obamacare’s Contraception Mandate

A federal judge has dismissed a Massachusetts lawsuit that aimed to obstruct the Trump administration’s decision to grant exemptions to Obamacare’s contraception mandate for employers with religious or moral issues with the directive.

On Monday, U.S. District Judge Nathaniel Gorton, a George W. Bush appointee, rejected the lawsuit by Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey, who argued she had standing to sue the administration since women in her state would be injured by the Trump administration’s new rules.

Gorton said that, in Massachusetts, “the record is uniquely obscure” whether women in that state would attempt to take advantage of the exemptions. The judge observed that, following the Trump administration’s announcement of its exemptions last October, Massachusetts enacted the ACCESS Act requiring employers to provide free contraception to workers.

His ruling comes following preliminary injunctions issued by two judges in California and Pennsylvania that blocked the Trump administration’s order allowing religious exemptions to the Obamacare rule that mandated most employers to provide free contraception and abortion-inducing drugs to workers through health insurance plans.

“We are pleased with the court’s order, which found that Massachusetts failed to provide the necessary facts to support its claim of harm they alleged was a result of the agencies’ rules,” a U.S. Department of Justice official said in a statement sent to Breitbart News. “In these cases and others, the Department of Justice will continue to vigorously defend religious liberty.”

According to Reuters, Healey, a Democrat, said in a statement she was “disappointed” in Gorton’s decision.

“We remain steadfast in our commitment to ensuring affordable and reliable reproductive health care for women,” she said. “We will continue to fight for these protections.”

Upon announcing the end of the Obamacare rule, a senior Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) official said Americans with religious beliefs and moral convictions would now have full protection while those employers with no objections would still be subject to providing free birth control, sterilization procedures, and abortion-inducing drugs for their workers.

The mandate was inserted into Obamacare by former HHS secretary Kathleen Sebelius—an abortion activist—and bureaucrats in her department. Following objections by many religious employers to the requirements of the mandate, the Obama administration devised “accommodations” that only gave the appearance the religious groups would not be either footing the bill for, or passively approving of, the federal government’s mandate of the offensive contraceptive drugs and sterilization procedures.

Planned Parenthood—which benefits financially from wider distribution of contraceptives—NARAL, and other feminist groups have attempted to portray Trump and other Republicans as intent on taking away women’s birth control by reversing the mandate. The Obama administration itself, however, actually exempted at least 25 million Americans, through various exemption allowances, from its own rule.

The case is Massachusetts v. U.S. Dep’t of Health and Human Services, No. 17-cv-11930 in the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts.

Anti-Trump Group Awarded $250,000 DHS Grant for ‘Pathways to Citizenship’

A progressive Latino advocacy group that has been directly involved with protests against Donald Trump and Republicans and whose "sister" organization leads an $80 million anti-Trump network was awarded a $250,000 grant late last year from the Department of Homeland Security as part of an initiative to help individuals register for citizenship, records show.

Make the Road New York, a nonprofit focused on Latino immigrant communities with around 20,000 members, was awarded the $250,000 project grant as part of the Pathways to Citizenship Initiative from the Department of Homeland Security. The grant carries a performance period of 1 year and 11 months and expires on Sep. 30, 2019.

"The goal of the Citizenship and Integration Grant Program is to expand the availability of high quality citizenship preparation services for lawful permanent residents in communities across the nation," the grant’s description reads. "Additional activities that support this goal include making citizenship instruction and naturalization application services accessible to low-income and other underserved lawful permanent resident populations; developing, identifying, and sharing promising practices in citizenship preparation; supporting innovative and creative solutions to barriers faced by those seeking naturalization; increasing the use of and access to technology in citizenship preparation programs; working with local libraries, which serve as a vital resource for immigrant communities; and incorporating strategies to foster welcoming communities as part of the citizenship and civic integration process."

MRNY boasts of its "cutting-edge public policy advocacy work to catalyze high impact social change" and was behind the widely covered JFK airport protests following Trump’s initial travel ban. The protests—described at the time as "spontaneous" by the media—were later found to have been planned since one day after Trump defeated Hillary Clinton in the 2016 elections.

Following the group’s protests at JFK airport, MRNY participated in the #DeleteUber campaign that called for people to boycott the ride-sharing company after it allowed drivers to pick up passengers at the airport during the protests. Travis Kalanick, Uber’s founder, left Trump’s advisory committee following the activist campaign.

MRNY was also later involved in the #GrabYourWallet campaign that targeted retailers who sold Trump family products. Nordstrom ultimately dropped Ivanka Trump products from its stores.

The progressive advocacy organization is closely tied to another liberal group that helms an $80 million anti-Trump network.

The Center for Popular Democracy (CPD), a New York-based liberal nonprofit that consists of old chapters of the Association of Community Organizations for Reform NOW (ACORN), is referred to as the "sister" organization of MRNY in the biography of Ana Maria Archila, the co-executive director CPD. Archilla joined CPD after acting as the co-executive director of MRNY, where she had been since the group was founded in 1997.

Andrew Friedman, the founder of MRNY, is also now a co-executive director at the Center for Popular Democracy. Friedman spent years building up MRNY before moving over to CPD. Javier Valdes, the co-executive director of MRNY, sits on the board of directors of the Center for Popular Democracy.

The two groups have also passed hundreds of thousands of dollars to each other, tax forms from both groups show, and have "partnered" on the "Corporate Backers of Hate" mass lobbying campaign that involved directly pressuring higher-ups at corporations they claimed could directly benefit from Trump policies.

JPMorgan Chase, Wells Fargo, Goldman Sachs, Boeing, Disney, IMB, Uber, BlackRock, and Blackstone were targeted during the campaign, which was called "unprecedented" by corporate responsibility experts.

The Center for Popular Democracy Action, the 501(c)4 sister organization to the CPD, leads the massive $80 million anti-Trump network that was announced last year and is said to span across 32 states with 48 local partners to focus on mobilizing new voters and combating voter identification laws while also getting involved in gerrymandering efforts and automatic voter registration in regards to the 2018 and 2020 elections.

Rep. Keith Ellison, the deputy chair of the Democratic National Committee, publicly backed the effort led by the Center for Popular Democracy Action.

"This national network, led by working class people of color and immigrants, will supply the power and the fight we need to resist the Trump administration’s all-out assault on American values," Ellison said last year. "I look forward to standing with CPD Action’s leaders in the streets and in Congress to win real progressive change."

CPD currently shows partnerships with more than 50 other left-wing activist organizations across the United States, according to their website.

CPD is also an approved funding organization of the Democracy Alliance, the left’s largest dark money donor network that was co-founded by billionaire George Soros.

CPD did not return a request for comment on their partnership with MRNY by press time. MRNY and DHS’s headquarters and Citizenship and Immigration Services division also did not respond to inquiries on the grant.

San Francisco sheriff ’embarrassed,’ apologizes for letting ICE interview inmates

San Francisco Sheriff Vicki Hennessy apologized Monday after her department allowed Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents to interview two inmates, SF Gate reports.

Why did she apologize?

California sanctuary law prohibits cooperation with federal immigration agents restricting or barring their access to inmates who ICE may be seeking to deport.

San Francisco Sheriff’s Department policy also forbids most communication between the department and ICE.

Under California’s Truth Act, the department is required to provide a consent form to county inmates before ICE can speak to them. The San Francisco Sheriff’s Department doesn’t have those forms because it has a blanket policy to restrict ICE access.

What happened?

Sheriff’s officials said that two ICE agents visited separate San Francisco jails and were granted access to speak to inmates in interview rooms.

The identities of the inmates and the content of the interviews have not been revealed.

What did the sheriff say?

“My staff made a mistake and I have to hold myself accountable. I apologize on behalf of the department. I feel embarrassed by it. I’ve taken steps to make sure it never happens again,” Hennessy said.

Hennessy also said this was a case of ICE “testing our defenses and they found some weak points.”

“Any breach is a serious matter,” Hennessy said in a statement. “We made a mistake and as sheriff, I hold myself accountable. We are investigating how and why this happened.”

WALSH: Dear Clueless Parents, Stop Funding Your Kid’s Spring Break Debauchery

The Daily Wire reports on the usual scene of debauchery in Fort Lauderdale, as thousands of teenagers and college students descend upon the place to drink, have sex in public, do drugs, etc., etc., etc. We know how the story goes by now. And who can blame these kids? They need to blow off steam because they’re stressed out from their near total lack of adult responsibilities. All of the sex and booze on campus gets old after a while, you see. They need sex and booze in Florida, too.

Of course we assume that this is all perfectly normal and natural. Not just spring break, but the entire college scene. The years of sex and drunkeness and irresponsibility, and so on. We’ve determined that the maturity and growth of a human person must inevitably involve at least about four or five years of spiritual insanity. First a person is a baby, then a young child, then an adolescent, then a teenager, then he plunges into a moral abyss for half a decade or so, and then a few more steps (???) and he magically becomes a well-rounded adult at some point in the future. That’s how we think it’s supposed to go, and must go. But the last step has not actually been happening for most people. They don’t ever really emerge from the moral abyss. And so we have now a few generations of infantilized and obsessively self-centered adults to show for it. What I’m trying to suggest is that maybe — just maybe — it’s not actually normal or healthy or a necessary rite of passage for young adults to behave like animals. Maybe for the majority of human history young adults behaved like adults, and were required to, and we should consider adopting a similar approach.

But that is a deeper conversation than I intend to have right now. For now, let’s just cover a very practical base. How does our country even have this ridiculous spring break tradition? Most of these “kids” showing up at the beach do not have the ability to pay for the plane, the hotel, the food, the alcohol, and everything else. These are “kids” with no financial means, no jobs, no assets, nothing, and yet they are able to afford the kind of vacation that most grown and fully employed adults cannot afford or would not waste their money on. It would seem almost like someone must be subsidizing the whole thing. Who?

Well, about a third of the revelers are stealing from their student loans to fund at least some of it. But what about the rest? Obviously mommy and daddy are the primary bankrollers here. Parents across the nation are giving their kids money — lots of money — so that their precious darlings can go have sex with drunken strangers for a week. It’s a mind-boggling parenting decision, I must say. But I’m not sure you can really call it a parenting decision at all. It’s more of an “I’m not going to bother being a parent anymore” decision.

I’m sure many of these parents will justify themselves by saying they need to give their kid “space” and let her have some “freedom” and “independence.” But she is not free or independent so long as she’s hanging onto your purse strings. If she wants the freedom to be reckless, stupid, and selfish, why not force her to exercise it on her own dime? This message is not effective: “Listen here, you better not act like a crazed baboon but if you really want to then here’s 600 dollars for a plane ticket, sweetie.”

Many college students today believe that they should be able to do what they want, and live how they want, and have someone else pay for it. Do you know how they arrived at that conclusion? Because that’s what their parents taught them. Maybe if the parents of America would actually exercise their authority and judgment for a change, and make even the slightest attempt to instill some sort of moral formation in their kids, we may see improvements in the culture.

It’s worth a shot, anyway.

Immigrant family caught hopping border fence near border wall prototypes Trump will inspect today

President Trump is flying to San Diego today to look over the 8 border wall prototypes which have been constructed about 100 yards from the existing border fence. In advance of his arrival, protest groups are holding events on both sides of the border. While filming from the Mexican side of the border, NBC News witnessed a family of four, including two toddlers, climbing over the existing fence directly across from the new wall prototypes on the American side. According to NBC, the family was detained on the U.S. side.

You can see the same pile of tires and the same graffiti on the fence in this clip. I don’t imagine that the new border wall is going to stop every determined person from coming across the border illegally, but the existing barrier can’t even stop toddlers. And this apparently happened on the day when President Trump is flying to San Diego meaning there was extraordinary security in place. From the Associated Press:

“We’re going to the wall. We’re going out to the wall,” Trump told reporters as he departed the White House. “We’re going to be looking at the prototypes, which is very important for our country.”…

Protests are also planned across the border in Tijuana, Mexico, as Trump examines the 30-foot-tall (9-meter-tall) prototypes designed to fulfill his signature campaign promise. Trump has insisted Mexico pay for the wall. Mexico has adamantly refused to consider the idea.

Organizers of opposing rallies were urging people to remain peaceful.

The scene was quiet on both sides of the border Tuesday morning as Trump flew to San Diego. On the Mexican side, federal and state police stood by. Tractor-trailer trucks on the U.S. side blocked the view from Mexico of all but the tops of the wall prototypes.

Immigrant activists, church leaders and elected officials held a news conference at the city’s historic Chicano Park to call for demonstrations to show border communities do not support a wall. Standing in front of murals of Mexican revolutionaries and other Latin American icons, they chanted, “We reject your hate! We don’t need your racist wall!”

Progressive activists in the U.S. held several protest events yesterday, including a march with about 250 people. In this clip, Rep. Juan Vargas makes clear President Trump is not welcome in San Diego. That seems to sum up how things stand for some on the left today. Illegal immigrants are welcome but the President of the United States is not.

REVEALED: Obama Campaign Hired Fusion GPS to Investigate Romney – Hid Payments Through Law Firm Perkins Coie

REVEALED: Obama Campaign Hired Fusion GPS to Investigate Romney – Hid Payments Through Law Firm Perkins Coie

A new book titled ‘Russian Roulette‘ reveals Barack Obama used Fusion GPS to investigate Mitt Romney during the 2012 presidential election.

And just like Crooked Hillary did during the 2016 election, Obama’s camp hid the payments to Fusion GPS through the law firm Perkins Coie.

Chuck Ross of the Daily Caller reported:

The Barack Obama presidential campaign hired Fusion GPS in 2012 to dig up dirt on Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, according to a book released on Tuesday.

The Obama campaign hid its payments to Fusion GPS through its law firm, Perkins Coie. The arrangement is similar to the one that the Clinton campaign and Democratic National Committee used to pay Fusion for its investigation of then-aDonald Trump in 2016.

[…]

“As had become standard practice in the shadowy world of ‘oppo’ research, the Obama campaign’s payments to Fusion GPS were never publicly disclosed; the money paid to the investigative firm was reported on campaign disclosure reports as legal bills to the campaign’s law firm, Perkins Coie,” the book reads.

The Obama for America committee paid Perkins Coie around $3 million during the 2012 election cycle, according to filings with the Federal Election Commission, A vast majority of the payments were earmarked for “Legal Services.”

The book “Russian Roulette: The Inside Story of Putin’s War on America and Donald Trump’s Election” is written by Yahoo! News’ David Isikoff and David Corn of Mother Jones. Both reporters met with Christopher Steele during the election.

David Isikoff wrote the Yahoo! News article about Carter Page in September of 2016 which was used as means to corroborate Christopher Steele’s claims Trump’s camp had secret connections to the Kremlin.

David Corn wrote an article about the dossier in Mother Jones in October of 2016 right before the election. He hinted at the dossier and claimed a former spy compiled a series of memos of Trump’s connections to Russia yet never reported on the salacious claims nor did he name Christopher Steele.

Hillary Clinton’s campaign and the DNC were hit with an FEC complaint in October of 2017 for violating campaign finance law because they failed to disclose payments for the Russian Dossier.

The Washington Post first revealed Hillary’s camp and the DNC paid for the phony Russia dossier.

REPORT: U.N. Aid Workers Preyed On Female Syrian Refugees

A shocking new report — the latest in a string of horrifying revelations about the United Nations peacekeeping and aid efforts — claims that female Syrian refugees, who were fleeing widespread destruction wrought by their country’s civil war, were sexually exploited by men serving as U.N. aid workers.

The report, compiled by the BBC, claims that some women were so fearful of being raped or sexually abused by aid workers that they refused to enter U.N. distribution centers and went without food, shelter, and necessary supplies. Others refused to accept aid from the U.N. because they feared those around them, who had heard the rumors about sexual exploitation, would think they had offered their bodies to U.N. workers for cloth or construction materials.

Workers who spoke to the BBC even claimed that local charities turned a blind eye to the sexual abuse because the U.N. was the only organization equipped to serve refugees in the most dangerous parts of Syria — even if those same aid workers were taking advantage of the lack of oversight.

“Examples were given of women or girls marrying officials for a short period of time for ‘sexual services’ in order to receive meals,” the report said.

U.N. workers acting as “distributors ask[ed] for telephone numbers of women and girls; giving them lifts to their houses ‘to take something in return’ or obtaining distributions ‘in exchange for a visit to her home’ or ‘in exchange for services, such as spending a night with them,'” the report continued.

Danielle Spencer, a “humanitarian adviser” for a charity working closely with Syrian women, was the first person to call attention to the exploitation. She told the BBC, “I remember one woman crying in the room and she was very upset about what she had experienced. Women and girls need to be protected when they are trying to receive food and soap and basic items to live.”

“The last thing you need is a man who you’re supposed to trust and supposed to be receiving aid from, then asking you to have sex with him and withholding aid from you,” she added.

The International Rescue Committee suggests that a full 40% of female Syrian refugees in two of the largest camps experienced some form of sexual harassment or violence during the aid disbursement process.

This news comes on the heels of a litany of shocking revelations about the United Nations international aid program. Across the globe, U.N. aid workers allegedly took advantage of women and girls in desperate situations.
