ICE: ‘864 criminal aliens’ remain at large, partly thanks to ‘reckless’ warning by Oakland’s mayor

Jazz wrote Monday about Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf’s decision to warn the public that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents would be sweeping the city and making arrests. ICE revealed Tuesday that it had detained 150 people in its latest sweep. But ICE Deputy Director Thomas Homan said another 864 criminal aliens managed to elude the sweep. He added that Schaaf’s warning was probably responsible for helping some of those individuals avoid arrest. From the Mercury News:

“The Oakland mayor’s decision to publicize her suspicions about ICE operations further increased that risk for my officers and alerted criminal aliens — making clear that this reckless decision was based on her political agenda with the very federal laws that ICE is sworn to uphold,” ICE Deputy Director Thomas D. Homan said…

Homan said ICE deportation officers were still able to remove many “public safety threats” from Bay Area streets.

“However, 864 criminal aliens and public safety threats remain at large in the community, and I have to believe that some of them were able to elude us thanks to the mayor’s irresponsible decision,” he said. “Unlike the politicians who attempt to undermine ICE’s critical mission, our officers will continue to fulfill their sworn duty to protect public safety.”…

ICE officials said they made arrests in cities including Sacramento, Stockton, San Francisco and Bay Point, where they detained a Mexican citizen who had been convicted of assault with a deadly weapon and had been removed from the U.S. by ICE eight times. About half of those arrested reportedly had criminal convictions in addition to immigration violations.

But Mayor Schaaf isn’t backing down from her sanctuary city policy:

“I do not regret sharing this information,” she continued. “It is Oakland’s legal right to be a sanctuary city and we have not broken any laws. We believe our community is safer when families stay together. We know that law-abiding residents live in fear of arrest and deportation every day. My priority is for the long-term well-being of Oakland, and I know that our city is safer when we share information that leads to community awareness.”

Last night on Special Report, Claudia Cowan reported ICE is asking the DOJ to look into Mayor Schaaf’s actions to see if they violated the law:

ICE Deputy Director Thomas D. Homan also appeared on Fox News this morning and repeated his criticisms of Mayor Schaaf: “I watched her statement where she says her priority is the safety of her community. Well, what she did had the exact opposite effect,” Homan said.

Homan also promised that ICE would not give up on doing its job:

The reason ICE is banging on doors and going into neighborhoods to find people is that California has forbidden local law enforcement officers from allowing ICE agents to sit in jails to process paperwork on people it wants to detain as they are released. So instead of processing many people a day in a safe environment, officers now have to go into communities where they may end up encountering other people, especially family members, who are also in the country illegally. The overall effect is to make ICE much more likely to encounter a lot of people who are not involved in criminal activity but who could be subject to deportation.

“Unleash the Dogs of War”: James Woods Weighs in After POTUS Trump Shreds AG Sessions

“Unleash the Dogs of War”: James Woods Weighs in After POTUS Trump Shreds AG Sessions

On Wednesday morning, President Trump slammed Attorney General Jeff Sessions for directing Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz to probe Obama-era FISA abuses.

“Why is A.G. Jeff Sessions asking the Inspector General to investigate potentially massive FISA abuse. Will take forever, has no prosecutorial power and already late with reports on Comey etc. Isn’t the I.G. an Obama guy? Why not use Justice Department lawyers? DISGRACEFUL!” tweeted Trump.

In response to Trump’s criticism, Sessions issued his own statement, affirming “As long as I am the Attorney General, I will continue to discharge my duties with integrity and honor.”

Soon after, Hollywood star James Woods weighed in on Trump’s criticism of Sessions.

“Dear Mr. President, when will you get a Department of Justice with teeth? Voter fraud, criminal “sanctuary” hideouts, mass illegal invasion, the opioid epidemic, gang murders, drug cartels are all rotting the soul of our blessed America. Unleash the dogs of war, sir. It is time,” tweeted Woods.

‘Chappaquiddick’ Film Critic: Mary Jo Was a ‘Me Too’ ‘Victim’ of the Kennedys

In his Tuesday review of Chappaquiddick, film critic Roger Friedman called Mary Jo Kopechne, who died in July 1969 as a passenger in a car driven by Massachusetts Senator Ted Kennedy, the “First #MeToo victim of Kennedy Family Money, Power and Corruption.” He also speculated: “The Kennedys … may try to kill this film.”

NewsBusters posts on the developing movie expressed concern, based on years of media sympathy for Kennedy, that he’d get a pass:

  • In December 2015, then-producer Mark Ciardi said the film’s viewers would “see what [Kennedy] had to go through.”
  • A year later, lead actor Jason Clarke said“Ted had a rough night.”

But when the film debuted at the Toronto Film Festival in September, NB’s Bozell and Graham hailed two “minor miracle(s).” The first is the film’s clinical storytelling, and the second was a Variety film critic’s contention that how the Kennedy clan squashed the case is “the essence of what Chappaquiddick means.”

Friedman believes #MeToo gives the film additional momentum:

Mary Jo Kopechne as First #MeToo Victim of Kennedy Family Money, Power and Corruption

(Director John Curran) could never have predicted back in September that by now the movie would have a whole new layer of meaning: Mary Jo Kopechne, left to drown in the waters of Martha’s Vineyard in July 1969, was the first #MeToo victim. Her death, suggested here as caused by the late Senator Edward Kennedy, is the paradigm for everything being discussed today.

… (Jason) Clarke was borbn (sic) to play Teddy as it turns out.

“Chappaquiddick” refers to a scandal that in hindsight is stunning that it didn’t end Kennedy’s political career– or put him in jail. … on a boozy summer night … a married but philandering Teddy drove his car off the Chappaquiddick bridge with Mary Jo Kopechne …

… the car went into the water and turned upside down. Teddy escaped and did not try to save Mary Jo. He return to the party house where he and friends had been whooping it up, found two of his sycophants (Ed Helms and Jim Gaffigan), brought them back to the scene of the accident. By then, Mary Jo had certainly died.

… They never reported the accident. Instead, they created massive cover up that presaged Watergate. … Clarke portrays Teddy so ambiguously you almost can’t tell if he’s calculating, stupid, just a lost man child. The result is you can’t take your eyes off of him. …

… The Kennedys will not be happy. They may try to kill this film. (In 40 years no one has even tried to tell this story accurately.) … This isn’t a tabloid story. Curran is damn serious. If Mary Jo as #MeToo victim takes off, the movie will click.

Ed Driscoll at Instapundit made a point which doesn’t detract from Friedman’s overall theme: “… the ghosts of Marilyn Monroe, Jackie Kennedy and Rosemary Kennedy might take exception with Roger Friedman’s headline.”

The trailer:

It remains to be seen whether movie critics will be as impressed with Chappaquiddick as they have been with The Post, another news-driven movie “based on a true story” from decades ago.

Over three days in December, The Washington Post devoted 3,375 words and three articles to touting the liberal-pleasing film about the newspaper. CBS promoted The Post for over 20 minutes. The hosts of This Morning deemed the movie “non-partisan” and the reporters who went after Richard Nixon as “heroes.”

Will journalists find the efforts to expose Ted Kennedy’s deplorable similarly heroic?

EPIC Billboards Mock Hollywood Hypocrites Days Before Oscars

On Sunday the mother of all self-worshipping celebrity circle jerks will take place at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.

That will be the night when all of the glitterati will gather together to take cheap shots at President Trump, engage in a virtue signaling marathon and see who takes home a statue.

That’s right, it is time for the insufferable and gauche affair known as the Oscars.

Hollyweird has had a really tough year. Despite wall-to-wall whining by neurotic, narcissistic celebs who still have a serious case of red ass over missing all of those lavish soirees at the Clinton White House, the President of the United States of America is STILL named Donald Trump.

Don’t expect any sort of reflection on the moral depravity of their own entertainment industry that is laden with perverts like Harvey Weinstein nor an admission that their violent product that glorifies gun violence may have had a role in the Parkland, FL high school shooting; all of the pigs will be wallowing in their own slop.

That is why it is so wonderful to have guys like guerilla street artist Sabo who has worked tirelessly to expose the truth about Hollywood hypocrisy and just in time for the Oscars, he has done his work on three billboards that in a normal world, would smack swine like host Jimmy Kimmel in the face like an ice-cold snowball of truth.

Via The Hollywood Reporter “Street Artist Erects Three Billboards Over Hollywood: “Oscar for Biggest Pedophile Goes to …””:

The conservative provocateur who calls himself Sabo took aim at Hollywood days before the Academy Awards.

With a nod to the Oscar-nominated Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, conservative street artist Sabo has hijacked three billboards in Hollywood to attack the entertainment industry for allegedly shielding pedophiles.

Reminiscent of the signage in the Martin McDonagh film, which is up for seven Oscars including best picture, with black text on a field of red, three consecutive billboards in Hollywood sprang up Wednesday, each calling out the industry.

“And the Oscar for biggest pedophile goes to…” reads one sign.

Another says, “We all knew and still no arrests.”

A third billboard reads: “Name names on stage or shut the hell up!”

The billboards are good although they will never top the graphic images of slutty hypocrites like Miley Cyrus and Lady Gaga that Sabo did before the Grammy’s with the hashtag #WeAllKnew.

It won’t take long before this guy is singled out by Silicon Valley as a Russian bot and terminated with extreme prejudice in the ongoing social media purge of conservatives. Not exactly a fair game but most guerrilla wars aren’t, this time it’s guerilla information warfare.

“Take the guns first”: The cops should have taken the Parkland shooter’s guns, says Trump — whether they had the right to or not; Update: Sasse attacks

If you didn’t watch this afternoon’s White House summit with Republican and Democratic leaders, make time tonight after work — especially if you’re a loud and proud member of MAGA Nation. I want you to see for yourself where the great Republican culture warrior you nominated is on one of the grassroots right’s core issues.

“I don’t want mentally ill people to be having guns,” he says in the clip below. So far, so good: No one wants people who are unstable to be armed, even knowing that only a small percentage of the mentally ill are violent. But we have due process for a reason. If the state could strip you of your rights by declaring you “sick,” without a formal adjudication, the potential abuses are endless. Trump doesn’t seem to care, though. He says at one point here that the cops should have taken the Parkland killer’s weapons whether they had the right or not.

It’s a small comfort that one of the most fascist things he’s said as president was said in support of the left’s pet issue, gun-grabbing:

He came back to the subject later in the meeting. Of course you get your day in court, POTUS allowed — after your guns have been seized. Not before.

But he wasn’t done. He spent most of the meeting half-gloating that Republicans in Congress were afraid of the NRA whereas he himself was not. He’s not wrong about that, as he’s the only Republican in America who might — might — have enough populist cred to command the loyalty of the base in a showdown with the NRA over gun regulations. To say that out loud, though, on camera is insane. These are attack-ad soundbites waiting to happen for Democrats:

Toomey co-authored the background-check bill with Joe Manchin that was filibustered in the Senate after the Newtown shooting. He had a lot to lose potentially by doing that among the GOP’s rural base in Pennsylvania. He’s not afraid of the NRA. Toomey doesn’t need to worry about reelection for awhile, though. Other Republicans do, and they’re going to be bludgeoned by Democrats over gun control this fall. What the hell is Trump thinking giving them a talking point about Republicans being terrified of the gun lobby, which is precisely what the Stoneman Douglas students have been accusing the GOP of over the past two weeks?

Oh, here he is listening to Steve Scalise float the idea of concealed-carry reciprocity as part of a new gun-control bill. That would at least add some sugar to a very bitter pill for gun-rights fans. Trump’s reaction: It’ll never pass, Steve. Leave it for a separate bill. Except, of course, that concealed-carry reciprocity would never, ever pass as a separate bill thanks to the filibuster, which is the entire reason Scalise is thinking of it as a package with new regulations.

Various reporters marveled how he seemed open to virtually everything Democrats proposed at the meeting, up to and including a new assault-weapons ban. Dianne Feinstein’s reaction to that was captured for posterity, which I’ll leave you with below in lieu of an exit question since it seemed to capture the mood this afternoon perfectly. Now we wait to see if this summit was like the immigration summit a few months ago, where Trump bloviated about his willingness to sign anything Congress passes and then quickly reoriented towards a robust border-hawk position once he got behind closed doors again and Stephen Miller and John Kelly set him straight. My guess is that he simply can’t resist the lure of his can-do strongman image, even when that completely undercuts his own base’s ideological position. The public is screaming at him to Do Something! on guns so he’s going to do everything he can to show them he’s on the case, whatever that means for due process or the right to bear arms. He has no principles, only “strength” and authority. So he’s doing what he thinks a strong authoritarian would do in this situation.

Update: Great point by Nick Gillespie. Wasn’t Trump whining about due process just a few weeks ago when it came to men like Rob Porter accused of misconduct by women? Why do the Trumps and Porters of the world deserve due process — even outside a courtroom — when people accused of being mentally ill and potentially stripped of their legal rights don’t?

Update: Ben Sasse fired this off in a statement released this afternoon, no doubt with very quiet support from many of his colleagues:

“Strong leaders don’t automatically agree with the last thing that was said to them. We have the Second Amendment and due process of law for a reason. We’re not ditching any Constitutional protections simply because the last person the President talked to today doesn’t like them.”

NY Times Accidentally Proves AR-15s Much Safer Than Lawnmowers And Beds

The liberal media is currently on this absurd mission to demonize semi-automatic rifles and more specifically the AR-15. According to them this normal firearm has otherworldly capabilities to destroy humanity and magical powers to annihilate the souls of its victims. That’s what so odd about a recent NY Times piece where they prove AR-15s are a hell of a lot safer than lawnmowers and even beds. Sure, this was accidental on the Times’ part, but I believe giving credit where credit is due, even if it’s stumbled upon by idiots.

The NY Times article is mostly bullshit as evidence by the title: With AR-15s, Mass Shooters Attack With the Rifle Firepower Typically Used by Infantry Troops

And the actual article:

When a gunman walked into Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School on Feb. 14, he was carrying an AR-15-style rifle that allowed him to fire upon people in much the same way that many American soldiers and Marines would fire their M16 and M4 rifles in combat.

M-16s and M-4s have full-auto capability while AR-15s are semi-automatic, so no these things aren’t the same. Maybe the NY Times is trying to point out that these are all rifles and people hold them in a similar manner when firing, I don’t know or care.

The thing that interests me in this otherwise stupid article is this statistic:

Since 2007, at least 173 people have been killed in mass shootings in the United States involving AR-15s, according to a New York Times analysis. The grim list includes crimes in Newtown, Conn.; Las Vegas; San Bernardino, Calif.; and now Parkland, Fla.

11 years and 173 deaths attributed to AR-15s? That makes an average of 15.7 deaths per year, which isn’t that bad considering how evil the liberal media says these things are.

That statistic gets even more laughable thanks to another liberal news source: The Huffington Post. In another stupid article, the HuffPo was trying to prove how non-threatening Islamic terrorists are and included this fun fact sheet:

As you can see, 69 people die every year from lawnmowers. Over that same 11 year period quoted by the Times, that means 759 people have been killed by rampaging lawnmowers compared to 179 by rampaging mass shooters with AR-15s.

But then look at the number of people who die falling out of bed every year. 8,107 people have had fatal falls from beds since 2007. Holy shit! Why aren’t those cowards in Congress doing something to ban this deadly product? Are they too scared to take on the powerful mattress lobby?

Seriously, who even needs one of those high-capacity California king-size beds designed for the battlefield, not he bedroom? Even those military-style twin mattress can’t be used responsibly by anyone. People should sleep on the floor or maybe a pile of hay, because our Founding Fathers never envisioned memory foam or Posturepedic adjustable mattresses.

The truth of the matter is that less than 2% of all crime involving guns is committed by people with long guns. That’s not just murders, but robbery and assault. It’s also not all done with AR-15s, long guns include any manner of rifle and shotguns. The actual number of how much crime is committed by scumbags with what liberals call “assault rifles” is so statistically insignificant that nobody keeps it.

Why are liberals so keen on banning AR-15s when we have bigger problems like assault lawnmowers and weapons of mattress destruction killing so many people each year? It’s not like we have a Constitutional right to a neatly trimmed lawn or a good night’s sleep.

Jared Kushner Security Clearance Reports Reveal Deep State Spying on Israeli Officials

Jared Kushner Security Clearance Reports Reveal Deep State Spying on Israeli Officials

NEW YORK — One little noticed takeaway from a Washington Post article claiming that four foreign countries have “privately discussed ways they can manipulate Jared Kushner” is that U.S. intelligence agencies are apparently spying on Israeli officials.

Citing “current and former U.S. officials familiar with intelligence reports on the matter,” the Post reported that Israel, the United Arab Emirates, China and Mexico were each discussing ways to influence Kushner in an advantageous manner, although it is unclear whether any countries acted to do so. Kushner is President Trump’s son-in-law and senior adviser.

The officials further said there has been concern that Kushner’s inexperience in government and the debt of his family’s real estate firm could be utilized by foreign nations to seek points of leverage.  There was concern over Kushner’s contact with certain foreign countries, the officials added, revealing that the issue has been a factor in holding up Kushner’s permanent security clearance.

When it came to Israel, the Post did not cite any information that indicates wrongdoing or that Israel was seeking ways to leverage Kushner based on his family’s business ties.

Israel was mentioned as “among those nations discussing ways to influence Kushner to their advantage,” but no specific details were provided.  The piece allowed that “foreign governments routinely discuss ways they can influence senior officials in all administrations.”

“Every country will seek to find their point of leverage,” one person familiar with intelligence intercepts told the newspaper.

UAE officials, however, discussed Kushner’s potential manipulability due to efforts by his family’s firm, Kushner Cos, to seek investors, the report claimed. Kushner divested his stake in the company when he entered the White House at the start of the Trump administration.

The Post did not specify the origins of the information cited in the purported intelligence reports. At one point in the article, the Post referred to “intelligence intercepts of foreign officials discussing Kushner,” which could indicate intercepted communications of Israeli officials.

It is not uncommon for allies to spy on each other, nor does the report mark the first time in recent years that U.S. intelligence agencies were said to have monitored Israeli communications. However, it seems to be the first public report of intelligence agencies under the Trump administration potentially spying on the Jewish state.

In 2015, the Wall Street Journal reported that the Obama administration conducted surveillance of Israeli officials, going so far as to sweep up conversations that Israeli leaders had with members of Congress as well as with Jewish leaders about the Iran nuclear deal.  That reported surveillance was part of an apparent bid to thwart opposition to the controversial nuclear agreement.  According to the Journal report, the National Security Agency intercepts included Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s own conversations as well as communications of other Israeli leaders.

In 2016, documents leaked to the news media and attributed to NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden claimed that the NSA and its British counterpart had monitored communications and secret missions of Israel‘s air force as part of a hacking operation that started in 1998.

On Tuesday, Politico first reported that Kushner had his top-secret security clearance downgraded to a secret clearance after months of delays related to his background-check process. The move came amid a larger crackdown initiated by White House Chief of Staff John Kelly on officials working with interim security clearances.

Reacting to the Washington Post‘s report about foreign nations allegedly discussing ways to manipulate Kushner, Peter Mirijanian, a spokesman for Kushner’s lawyer, said, “We will not respond substantively to unnamed sources peddling second-hand hearsay with rank speculation that continue to leak inaccurate information.”

Trump on Gun Restraining Orders: ‘I Like Taking the Guns Early’ – ‘Take the Guns First, Go Through Due Process Second’

Trump on Gun Restraining Orders: ‘I Like Taking the Guns Early’ – ‘Take the Guns First, Go Through Due Process Second’

While meeting with lawmakers on Wednesday, President Trump discussed gun violence restraining orders that would give law enforcement the ability to remove weapons from people who are reported to be dangers to themselves or others by obtaining a court order, but stated, “I like taking the guns early.” He further expressed openness to “take the guns first, go through due process second.”

After Vice President Mike Pence referenced gun violence restraining orders, Trump stated, “Or, Mike, take the firearms first, and then go to court. Because that’s another system. Because a lot of times, by the time you go to court, it takes so long to go to court, to get the due process procedures. I like taking the guns early. Like, in this crazy man’s case that just took place in Florida, he had a lot of firearms — they saw everything. To go to court would have taken a long time. So, you could do exactly what you’re saying, but take the guns first, go through due process second.”

Trump Wants Joe Manchin’s Gun Control, Rejects Steve Scalise’s National Reciprocity Push

Trump Wants Joe Manchin’s Gun Control, Rejects Steve Scalise’s National Reciprocity Push

President Donald Trump embraced Sen. Joe Manchin’s (D-WV) gun control bill but rejected Rep. Steve Scalise’s (R-LA) push for national reciprocity during a bipartisan meeting with lawmakers Wednesday afternoon.

After listening to Sen Chris Murphy (D-CT), Trump looked at toward the end of the table and asked Sens. Pat Toomey (R-PA) and Joe Manchin (D-WV) to detail their gun control bill.

The Manchin/Toomey gun control bill is the same universal background check legislation supported by Barack Obama in the wake of the heinous attack on Sandy Hook Elementary School. It the very bill that was defeated in the Democrat-controlled Senate on April 17, 2013.

Toomey described it for Trump, saying the bill “strengthens the reporting of information into the background check system” and “requires background checks on all commercial sales.” This is code-talk for requiring background checks on private gun sales, which Toomey described as sales at gun shows and online (even though online sales already require a background check).

Manchin then spoke and suggested that West Virginians will support the Manchin/Toomey gun control bill if Trump will support it. He did not mention that the Manchin/Toomey bill would not have prevented the Florida attack — just as it would not have prevented the Sandy Hook attack that spawned it.

Trump spoke of the using the Manchin/Toomey bill “as a base” to which other gun bills can be added, and then continued taking comments from various senators and representatives in attendance.

When it was Rep. Scalise’s time to speak, he highlighted the crime-fighting value of concealed carriers and the need to pass national reciprocity legislation. National reciprocity was introduced in the House on January 3, 2017, and passed in the House on December 6, 2017. It was introduced in the Senate on March 1, 2017, and it has yet to come up for a vote nor has Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said a word in support of it.

Trump shut down Scalise’s reciprocity push, suggesting the gun control package being pieced together would never pass if national reciprocity were added to it.

Trump looked at Scalise and said, “You know I’m your biggest fan in the whole world. I think that maybe that bill will someday pass but it should pass as a separate bill… You’ll never get this passed. If you add concealed carry to this you’ll never get it passed. Let it be a separate bill.”

Trump added, “We want to get something done.”

Levin’s Fox News Show Premiere Dominates Sunday Night Cable News Ratings

Conservative talk-show host Mark Levin / Getty Images

BY:

Mark Levin’s new Fox News Channel show “Life, Liberty & Levin” dominated Sunday night’s cable news ratings in the 10 p.m. EST slot.

On Sunday, Levin garnered over 1.4 million total viewers and 309,000 in the key 25-54 year old demographic, according to to Nielsen.

CNN had a total of only 792,000 viewers with their documentary about Patty Hearst, and MSNBC had just 266,000 total viewers in the same time slot.

Levin, a noted Conservative radio host and author, has made numerous appearances on Fox News prior to joining the channel’s regular lineup. His addition to the Sunday night lineup comes as Fox News aims maintain its dominance in cable news after a year in which MSNBC gained ground.

Numbers were also released this week revealing Fox News Channel continued to dominate cable news overall during the month of February. The network beat out top competitors CNN and MSNBC in average viewership for the 20th straight month. Nevertheless, February viewership was slightly down–10 percent–for Fox News from last year while MSNBC saw an uptick compared to February 2017.
