Tim Kaine’s Hometown Paper Rips Him Over Double Standard for the NRA

Democratic Sen. Tim Kaine’s (Va.) hometown newspaper castigated him on Wednesday over his recent comments blaming the National Rifle Association for Congress not passing federal gun-control measures.

The Richmond Times-Dispatch editorial board published a rebuke of Kaine, suggesting that the senator’s claim Sunday that the NRA "has basically been able to gridlock everything in Congress now for nearly decades" was hypocritical and made in bad faith.

Kaine has also said that his colleagues on Capitol Hill are "afraid of the NRA."

The Times-Dispatch editorial hit Kaine for suggesting that the majority of Congress wants to pass gun control but fails to act on legislation because of the pervasive influence of the NRA and other Second Amendment groups. This view, the newspaper argued, implies that Kaine’s colleagues have no ideas of their own and only serve to do "the bidding" of their donors.

"Behind that argument lies an assumption of bad faith: that lawmakers actually favor gun control, and they oppose it—and their own consciences—only because of lobbyist pressure," the editorial board wrote. "Do Kaine’s colleagues know he holds them in such low regard?"

The editorial board pointed out that Kaine has a checkered history on labor issues, supporting Virginia’s right-to-work law before reversing course upon being tapped as Hillary Clinton’s running mate in 2016. The paper wrote that the reversal, accompanied by campaign finance disclosures showing that union organizations make up two of Kaine’s top 10 donors, could lead one to imply—relying upon an assumption of bad faith—that Kaine "does the bidding of labor-union donors."

Kaine’s hometown paper suggested the senator refrain from taking "abrasive cheap shots" at his colleagues and Second Amendment groups.

"Maybe he should give his pro-gun-rights colleagues a little more credit," the editorial board wrote.

The editorial came one day after Kaine and his Democratic colleagues on the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee sent a letter to the committee’s chairman and ranking member—Sens. Lamar Alexander (R., Tenn.) and Patty Murray (D., Wash.), respectively—requesting a hearing on school shootings.

"As senators, it is our responsibility to address gun violence like the public health crisis that it is, investigate the causes of these deadly acts of violence and hatred, and make policy changes to ensure that they no longer happen," Kaine and his colleagues wrote.

Throughout his long political career, Kaine has had a convoluted relationship with the Second Amendment.

As the Washington Post previously noted, Kaine, while serving as mayor of Richmond, Virginia, pushed for stronger gun-control measures to tackle the crack and cocaine epidemic.

"There is no issue in the city that is more important than gun violence," Kaine said at the time. "I can’t think of an issue I’d rather be aligned with than this."

In 2000, Kaine generated controversy by using public funds and resources in support of a political cause, sending citizens to Washington, D.C. to attend the Million Moms March, a gun-control rally.

As a statewide candidate for lieutenant governor and governor, however, Kaine embraced the Second Amendment and promised that he would "not propose any new gun laws." The senator stayed true to his word until the Virginia Tech mass shooting in 2007. The shooting, which killed 32 students and teachers, spurred Kaine to push for legislation requiring background checks for sales at gun shows. Although that bill failed to make it through the Virginia General Assembly, Kaine did act unilaterally—via executive order—to limit the sale of guns to individuals forced to undergo involuntary mental health treatment.

Since joining the Senate in 2012, Kaine has been a vocal advocate for gun-control measures. In February, the senator joined his Democratic colleagues in introducing legislation that would ban the sale and transfer of "military-style assault weapons."

New Strzok / Page texts indicate coordination between Obama WH, FBI, CIA, and Harry Reid at the launch of Russia probe

New Strzok / Page texts indicate coordination between Obama WH, FBI, CIA, and Harry Reid at the launch of Russia probe
It’s getting hard to keep track of all the lies Democrats have told about the investigation into supposed “Russian collusion” with the Trump campaign. From the origins of “the dossier,” to the FISA application, to the whole wiretapping scandal the falsehoods, half-truths, and untenable innuendo has been piling up for over a year. To keep track of them all, you’d need one of those crazy conspiracy theorist walls with red string connecting all the players.

EXTREME VETTING: State Department To Screen Social Media History From Tourists and Immigrants

EXTREME VETTING: State Department To Screen Social Media History From Tourists and Immigrants

In a series of newly released rules meant to better screen those entering the United States, the State Department will now require a review of tourists and immigrants’ social media history. In addition to social media history, travelers will be asked about and familial ties to terrorism or terrorist organizations, previous issues they may have had with immigration, and prior phone numbers and email address they used.

These new measures were long discussed by then-candidate Trump on the campaign trail, and explored by the Trump administration, with the aid of tech companies such as IBM, in August of 2017.

More Via Washington Times:

“This upgrade to visa vetting is long overdue, and it’s appropriate to apply it to everyone seeking entry, because terrorism is a worldwide problem. The aim is to try to weed out people with radical or dangerous views,” said Jessica Vaughan, policy studies director at the Center for Immigration Studies. […]

Security experts have demanded the government collect more information from visitors and immigrants for years, but civil liberties groups have been wary of the move.

Homeland Security had floated plans to track social media of immigrant applicants, but the State Department’s new proposal would apply to tourists and others coming on temporary visas. Some 14 million people would be affected by the request for information, the department’s documents say. […]

“Collecting this additional information from visa applicants will strengthen our process for vetting these applicants and confirming their identity,” the department said.

Ms. Vaughan said she wished the State Department had also requested information on the visitor application asking whether female travelers are intending to enter the U.S. for the purpose of having a child.

She said that could cut down on what’s known as “birth tourism,” where women in the late stages of pregnancy visit the U.S. in order to give birth on American soil, which secures citizenship for the child.

Judge Napolitano: Inspector General Horowitz Set To Unearth ‘Treasure Trove’ Of Abuses By DOJ, FBI Against Trump (VIDEO)

Judge Napolitano: Inspector General Horowitz Set To Unearth ‘Treasure Trove’ Of Abuses By DOJ, FBI Against Trump (VIDEO)

Fox News’ Judge Andrew Napolitano believes Inspector General Michael Horowitz is set to unearth a ‘treasure trove,’ of FISA abuses by both the FBI and Justice Department against President Donald Trump.

Credit: Fox Insider

“The FBI was never perfect. Made up of human beings that have political aspirations and political ideas. But when it was confined just to law enforcement, it knew how to do its job. After 9/11, when the FBI was moved into intelligence-gathering as well as law enforcement, the abuses began to ramp up,” Napolitano told the hosts of “Fox & Friends,” on Thursday.

“I believe that the inspector general will find a treasure trove, not just McCabe and company, but that is the most extreme violation we know of because the target, the victim is the president of the United States. Though he was a candidate and then president-elect at the time,” Napolitano added.

But he will find a treasure trove of abuses. Going to FISA, getting warrants, when the law did not justify it.”

‘South Park’ Creators To Crowd: ‘We’re Republicans’

Via Daily Wire

“South Park” has always been a reliable show when it comes blasting the excesses of the Left (and the Right). While certainly a vulgar show and one that is not exactly pro-conservative, it has nonetheless always served as a nice contrast to the mean-spirited propaganda generally seen on television.

However, according to the show’s creators, Matt Stone and Trey Parker, they are actually Republicans, albeit of the Libertarian variety.

Accepting a “freedom award” from Norman Lear’s organization, the two creators of “South Park” allegedly came out of the closet as Republicans. Conservative radio host Larry Elder reportedly corroborated the pair’s voting history.

“We’re Republicans,” said the pair. “No, seriously. We’re Republicans.”

Teacher assigns students to write gun control letters to Congress. Parents aren’t happy.

A Georgia middle school social studies teacher recently gave his class a writing assignment that has some parents upset, Blue Lives Matter reported.

What’s the story?

Corey Sanders, who teaches seventh-graders at Hampton Middle School in Hampton, assigned his students to write letters to U.S. lawmakers persuading them to pass tighter gun restriction laws.

Sanders’ assignment read:

You are trying to persuade lawmakers to have stricter gun laws to help prevent another school shooting from taking place.

For this assignment, you are writing a letter to the lawmakers of the United States. The purpose of this letter is to pressure lawmakers to have stricter gun laws in the United States. Your letter should contain at least five complete sentences. Make sure that you use proper grammatical skills when writing your letter.

William Lee, a law enforcement officer in a nearby county, told Blue Lives Matter that his son recently brought home the assignment from Hampton Middle School.

“I asked him what he had for homework that night, and he said he had to write a paper on gun control,” Lee said. “I said, ‘Uh, oh. Let me see the assignment.’”

Then Lee logged in to his son’s online classroom, where he confirmed the assignment.

“I looked at it, and I told my son, ‘No, you’re not doing that assignment,’” Lee told Blue Lives Matter. “Then I emailed his teacher the next day and told him that my son would not be writing that.”

The teacher responded to Lee’s email that it was OK for his son not to complete the assignment and that he wouldn’t lose points for not doing it.

What was the intent of the letters?

“The first thing I wondered was what was their intent with these letters,” Lee said. “Were they planning to mail them?”

Then Lee wondered how the assignment fits into his son’s curriculum.

“The Georgia Standard of Excellence, which is what the Henry County curriculum is based on, says that my seventh-grader is supposed to be studying Asia, Africa, and the Middle East in social studies,” Lee said. “There’s nothing in the course curriculum about gun control.”

Other parents also expressed concern about the assignment, according to Lee, but those parents were unaware until after their students had turned in their work.

“Where are these letters now?” Lee asked.

The father said he also wonders if the teacher planned on mailing them.

Sanders did not respond to Blue Lives Matters’ request for comments.

And the school principal and district superintendent have also failed to respond to Blue Lives Matters’ requests.

Fan Mail For Parkland Shooter Flows Into Broward County Jail

Sick. A big argument for why not to name such shooters.

Via Daily Caller:

Young girls, older women and even some men have sent fan mail and letters of encouragement to Parkland shooting suspect Nikolas Cruz, the Florida Sun-Sentinel reports. The letters, which range from offers of friendship to obscene photos and propositions, have been delivered to Cruz via the Broward County Jail.

Broward County Public Defender Howard Finkelstein, whose office represents Cruz, told the Sun-Sentinel that the sheer volume is unprecedented. “There’s piles of letters. In my 40 years as public defender, I’ve never seen this many letters to a defendant. Everyone now and then gets a few, but nothing like this.”

The Sun-Sentinel, having obtained copies of a number of the letters, described one from an 18-year-old girl who saw Cruz on television and “something attracted me to you.” She went on to offer encouragement, as well as a description of her breast size. An older woman from Chicago sent a series of provocative photos.

Professor Used Shroud of Turin To Create ‘Precise’ 3D ‘Carbon Copy’ Of Jesus

Pretty interesting.

Via Daily Caller:

A University of Padua professor used the Shroud of Turin to create a 3D carbon copy of Jesus, allegedly revealing Christ’s true features.

Giulio Fanti, a professor of mechanical and thermal measurements and a scholar of the Shroud of Turin, used his own measurements of the impression on the shroud to create the carbon copy, according to Aleteia. Using the shroud and the resulting 3D image, Fanti was able to count a number of the bodily wounds Jesus would have suffered according to scripture and other historical sources, reveal his height, and the position in which he died, the professor said, according to Vatican Insider. Fanti has no doubt the depiction of the shrouded man and the statue he created with it is that of the actual Christ.

“This statue is the three-dimensional representation in actual size of the Man of the Shroud, created following the precise measurements taken from the cloth in which the body of Christ was wrapped after the crucifixion,” Fanti said, according to Vatican Insider. “Therefore, we believe that we finally have the precise image of what Jesus looked like on this earth. From now on, He may no longer be depicted without taking this work into account.”

Homeowner Refuses To Sell Her Home To A Trump Supporter. Imagine If A Conservative Took A Similar Stand.

It seems as if the progressives’ holy grail of “tolerance” only works one way. Case in point — a homeowner in Sacramento, CA, has put her home up for sale. But there is a catch: the buyer cannot be a Trump supporter.

According to CBS Sacramento, “the homeowner has a political preference in mind for the next owner of her house, which has been in her family for decades.” While the homeowner “entertained people from all walks of life,” the realtor says she doesn’t want her to sell it to a Trump supporter.

But according to attorney Allen Sawyer, this condition is illegal. This contractual term infringes on the freedom of association and First Amendment rights. “People have a right to believe what they want to believe and they shouldn’t be restricted from purchasing property based on that,” Sawyer argued.

However, according to the Fair Housing Act, political party preference doesn’t fall into one of the protected classes, which include race, color, religion, disability, national origin, familial status and sex.

Either way, according to the homeowner, the statement she wants to make is more important than money and the prospect of turning away almost half of her prospective buyers, as 39% of people in the Sacramento region voted for Trump.

On his show, Daily Wire Editor-In-Chief Ben Shapiro frequently takes his shoe off when talking about an issue, asking how we would react to a situation if the shoe were on the other foot, meaning that if a situation were reversed, would our reactions be the same.

This case in Sacramento is just the latest example of where this should be done. But don’t hold your breath for the Left to do this, and to hold its own to its own standards. Because there are none.

SJWs with Dubious Prison, Education Records Will Use NFL War Chest to Reform Those Institutions!

How rich is this? The NFL just got fleeced for $89 million by a group of social justice warriors who want to use that money for — can you believe this? — prison reform and education reform. With their notorious arrest records and underwhelming academic achievement, these guys should not be allowed within a light-year of the justice and education systems!

With an obscene arrest history, it’s no wonder NFL players want to reform the prison system! With a sordid education history, these are among the last people on earth you’d want near the schools and colleges! But that’s how, in part, they want to spend this king’s ransom. You can’t make this stuff up!

The Undefeated’s Jason Reid reports that on Monday the league ratified its budget for the social justice initiative reward to players who, for two seasons, waged outrageous protests during the national anthem:

“At the league meetings here (Orlando), owners unanimously approved the local matching funds portion of their landmark seven-year, $89 million proposal to bankroll causes considered important to African-American communities.

“Money at both the national and local levels will provide grants for nonprofit organizations focused on law enforcement and community relations, criminal justice reform and education reform. A working group of five players, five owners (or owners’ representatives) and two NFL staff members will help identify future initiatives to pursue.”

Gluttons for punishment, the owners did nothing to solve the protest problem that sacked their attendance and TV viewership and threw their approval ratings for a huge loss.

The campaign is officially known as “Let’s Listen Together.” It includes digital content and messages highlighting the player-led work on social and racial equality. Players will write letters and use social media to explain why social justice is a priority for them. Though it’s unconfirmed if it has been accepted or not, an opinion piece in the Miami Herald recommended that each team in the league select two “social justice captains.” SJW captains could certainly help teams coordinate their disrespectful pregame protests.

Players in the “National Felons League” have been arrested for drunk driving, drugs, domestic violence, assault, disorderly conduct and more! Cincinnati’s Adam Jones is the reigning “champ” with 10 arrests! And these are the people who, with the mighty NFL’s stamp of approval, will lead the fight for criminal justice reform? They’ve contributed mightily to the “mass incarceration” issue they whine and moan about, so it’s no wonder they want to change the system. Oh the rich, rich irony!

As a side note to the player demands for criminal justice, the San Francisco 49ers’ team recently visited San Quentin prison to engage in discussions about prison reform and social justice issues. It’s unknown if all the players were allowed to leave.

Now about that education reform: In 2014 CNN, no less, conducted an investigation of public universities across the country and found that many football players “could read only up to an eighth-grade level. The data obtained through open records requests also showed a staggering achievement gap between college athletes and their peers at the same institution.”

Also, a graduate student at UNC-Greensboro, Mary Willingham, researched the reading levels of 183 UNC-Chapel Hill athletes who played football or basketball from 2004 to 2012. She reported that 60 percent of those athletes were reading at levels between fourth- and eighth-grade. Almost 10 percent were reading below third-grade level.

And to think college football is the feeder program for pro football, which doesn’t bode well. The Department of Education should get a restraining order against NFL players going anywhere near the schools and colleges.
