Soros-linked group to spend $5 million to defeat Kavanaugh nomination

A liberal advocacy group that has received significant funding from George Soros has pledged to spend $5 million to defeat the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court.

The web of organizations spearheading the effort known as Demand Justice, which is financed by a 501(c)(4) called the Sixteen Thirty Fund, includes the Open Society Policy Center (OSPC), “one of Soros’ primary donation vehicles, between 2012 and 2016.”

Daily Caller:

The Fund is largely financed by a handful of donors. Financial statements filed with state oversight officials in 2014 show just three contributors accounted for 70 percent — or some $11.5 million — of the Fund’s total donations and grant revenue. Disclosure forms filed with the same agency in 2016 present similar facts. Fewer than five donors gave $13.3 million to the Fund, representing 63 percent of their donations.

One of those donors is the OSPC. The Center’s tax forms show the Soros group gave hundreds of thousands of dollars to the Fund each year between 2012 and 2016, the last year in which records are publicly accessible. The Center gave the Fund $350,000 in 2012; $772,000 in 2013; $125,000 in 2014; $550,000 in 2015; and $481,483 in 2016.

OSPC is practically indistinct from the Open Society Foundations (OSF), Soros’ philanthropic and grant-giving network. OSPC has no employees of its own, according to the Center’s 2016 tax forms. Rather, Foundations employees are compensated for any work done for the Center. Said compensation is determined by the OSF, and documented in OSF’s internal records.

“OSPC has no employees,” the form reads. “Employees of Open Society [Foundations], a related section 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization, perform services for OSPC. OSPC advances funds to Open Society [Foundations] for their services based on the time they spend on OSPC matters. Their compensation is determined by Open Society [Foundations], and is based on market comparability data and is documented in Open Society [Foundations’] records.”

A shadow organization using shadow employees for shadowy purposes. Whoever said Soros doesn’t operate in the shadows?

The Fund serves as Demand Justice’s fiscal sponsor. As such, DJ does not have to submit its own tax returns or disclose its supporters. The Fund registered the trade name “Demand Justice” with the Washington D.C. Department of Consumer and Regulatory affairs on May 2.

The National Council of Nonprofits says that fiscal sponsors provide “fiduciary oversight, financial management and other administrative services” for its dependents, like Demand Justice. As such, many grants or donations DJ receives are awarded by way of the Fund. Both organizations are based out of the same Washington, D.C., address.

Supporters can also give to DJ through ActBlue Civics, a major fundraising platform for leftwing causes.

Given this structure, it is difficult to know how much money individual donors like Soros have channeled to Demand Justice.

And that sums up the role George Soros plays in funding left wing advocacy groups. We know he is heavily involved but the extent of his funding activities is largely unknown.

Soros has been known to work with other ultra-rich liberals to fund their pet projects. It’s safe to say his network is extensive. And this is his real value to the radical left; Small donation fundraising for Soros groups is a front. The real cash is given by a web of tax exempt organizations funded by Soros and his friends.

As much as the Koch brothers are vilified on the left for funding conservatives, their efforts are nothing compared to the Soros network. The difference is everyone knows pretty much how much the Koch brothers spend. For Soros and his shadowy friends, mum’s the word.

Feinstein to CA Dems: Now watch me as a fully operational Kavanaugh death star, or something

Dianne Feinstein has a big problem back home. Despite her decades in the US Senate — or perhaps in some way because of them — her own state party betrayed her, choosing to endorse an upstart primary challenger rather than the entrenched and safe incumbent. California Democrats keep getting pushed to the progressive extreme by activists within their coalition, and since they’re largely free of any serious competition in the state, acquiesce rather than moderate. That leaves Feinstein under pressure to demonstrate that she can deliver more in the next six years for Golden State progressives than someone with no experience or seniority.

Oh, if only there would be a nationally televised platform for Feinstein coming up before the election ….

Sen. Dianne Feinstein has shrugged off a chorus of calls from within her party to step aside, arguing that her seniority and past achievements make her better qualified to represent California than a challenger decades her junior.

Now she’s going to have a chance to prove it.

As the top Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee for the coming confirmation hearings for Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, Feinstein is about to take on a lead role in the biggest partisan battle of this election year. She’ll do so with a more progressive foe nipping at her heels back home — her general election opponent, state Sen. Kevin de León, overwhelmingly won the state party’s endorsement over the weekend — and a pair of rising-star Democrats on the committee, Kamala Harris and Cory Booker, setting a pugnacious tone for the confirmation clash. …

The Supreme Court showdown arrives as both Feinstein and her party wrestle with insurgent forces on the left that want to see more gloves-off resistance to President Donald Trump’s agenda. It’s a tall order for a Democratic Caucus still reaching for the right mix of fight and collegiality, the recipe to undercut Trump in the chaotic news cycle he’s created while staying true to its DNA.

In other words, Feinstein has all the incentives in the world to play hardball with Brett Kavanaugh. She’s facing a home-state revolt, her party’s leadership is under attack, and they don’t have many options for success anyway. Why not go for broke?

First, all due respect to Politico, it’s unclear what Feinstein is likely to “prove.” The last time Feinstein tried hardball, it was with Amy Coney Barrett on her Catholicism, and it blew up in her face with her comment about how “the dogma lives loudly within you.” Feinstein’s been on the defensive ever since, trying to explain that she wasn’t imposing a religious test on federal office when anyone who watched that exchange knows that’s exactly what she tried to do.

But let’s say for the sake of argument that Feinstein suddenly finds nuance and wit. So what? Thanks in large part to the progressives’ success in pressuring Harry Reid and Chuck Schumer to go nuclear in 2013, all Kavanaugh needs to do is keep all 50 Republicans on his side. Kavanaugh is no babe in the Washington woods either; he’s been in the Beltway since birth and has already handled one contentious Senate confirmation hearing. Feinstein could summon the ghost of Clarence Darrow and channel him for all of her question time, and it wouldn’t matter a whit. The target audience in the Senate isn’t other Democrats, and those who would be the target audience (Susan Collins, Lisa Murkowski, Rand Paul) are not likely to be impressed by Feinstein’s desperate attempts to remain relevant to the progressives back home.

No one thought Feinstein would go easy on Kavanaugh anyway. But this framing of the confirmation hearing will have two impacts, neither one good for Democrats. One, it will make any tough questioning of Kavanaugh look even more cynical and self-serving, both on the part of Feinstein and of the Democratic establishment supporting her. Two, its futility is likely to backfire, making Kevin de Léon’s case for him that Feinstein is impotent and washed up when Kavanaugh takes his seat on the Supreme Court four weeks or so before the midterms.

Feinstein better enjoy it while she can. It might end up being her last hurrah, such as it will be.

National Guard border deployment led to nearly 11,000 illegal alien arrests, Border Patrol says

In April, President Donald Trump ordered thousands of National Guard troops to the southern U.S. border with Mexico, where illegal crossings were skyrocketing. Trump said the troops would work in tandem with Border Patrol agents to secure the border.

“The situation at the border has now reached a point of crisis. The lawlessness that continues at our southern border is fundamentally incompatible with the safety, security, and sovereignty of the American people. My Administration has no choice but to act,” Trump’s order said.

Now, we know the impact National Guard troops have had on keeping the border secure.

What are the details?

The National Guard’s deployment has led to 10,805 “deportable alien arrests,” a Customs and Border Patrol spokesperson said Monday, according to the Washington Examiner. Additionally, the National Guard helped agents intercept more than 3,300 others who were denied entry and turned back.

Overall, the Border Patrol has apprehended more than 250,000 illegal immigrants in the southwestern border sector in fiscal year 2018.

However, as the Examiner noted, National Guard troops are not permitted to arrest immigrants who cross the border illegally because they are not sworn law enforcement officers. Instead, guardsmen help Border Patrol agents identity and intercept potential illegal border crossers, who the Border Patrol then detain.

Guardsmen primarily help by providing air surveillance, which allows Border Patrol agents stuck at desks to head into the field for proactive law enforcement. They also help with infrastructure projects like clearing debris that makes it easier for immigrants to hide from agents.

The Examiner reported there are currently 1,601 guardsmen working on various projects at the border. That number could increase to as much as 4,000 per Trump’s order should the border situation deteriorate.

The National Guard’s deployment ends on Sept. 30, the final day of fiscal year 2018. Trump will have to issue another order to keep the troops in place.

Is Trump the first president to send the National Guard to the border?

No. In fact, both former Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama deployed National Guard troops to the southwestern border to help with border security in 2006 and 2010, respectively.

No, The DNC Isn’t Hiding Its Servers From The FBI To Create A False Narrative Of Russian Hacking

On Monday, President Trump granted credence to Vladimir Putin’s account of the hacks of the Democratic National Committee and Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, as well as Hillary Clinton’s campaign servers, had nothing to do with Russia. In doing so, he threw his own intelligence agencies under the bus.
