National Guard Deployment Led To More Than 10,000 Arrests Of Illegal Aliens, Says CBP

Deportations is what counts.

Via Washington Examiner:

The National Guard’s deployment to the southwest border in mid-April has led to 10,805 “deportable alien arrests” of people who illegally entered the United States from Mexico, a U.S. Customs and Border Protection spokeswoman said Monday.

Because guardsmen are military personnel and not law enforcement officers, they cannot apprehend illegal immigrants. But CBP officers and Border Patrol agents apprehended thousands of people that guardsmen helped point out.

The National Guard’s presence also helped lead to the interception of more than 3,300 others who were turned back before they crossed into the U.S., CBP press secretary Corry Schiermeyer said in an email to the Washington Examiner. The Guard’s deployment has also led to an additional 11,686 pounds of marijuana being seized as a result of their work.

There are 1,601 National Guard troops at the border assisting with various surveillance, maintenance, and related operations. That number could tick up considerably if the 4,000 National Guard troops President Trump approved on April 4 are called on in a future request from CBP.

Heroin deaths surpass gun homicides for first time, so why would we legalize drugs while we’re banning guns?

Heroin deaths surpass gun homicides for first time: Why would we legalize drugs while banning guns?
I would like to ask a question.

According to the gun-grabbers on the American left, it’s a foregone conclusion that if something is associated with a lot of problems, you need to “control” that something, by which they mean to severely restrict it or preferably ban it.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is the best thing to happen to the GOP all year

In the midst of a growing number of dismal news cycles, let’s take a moment to pause once again and at least be grateful for the unexpected primary victory of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the socialist wonder from the Bronx. Yesterday, Ed brought up her rather, er… remarkable interview in which she demonstrated her policy chops on Mideast unrest. But there’s not only more to that story, but some additional highlights from her cross-country adventure which should put a smile on the faces of conservatives hoping for a good result in the midterms.

As Ed noted, Ocasio-Cortez’s knowledge of the history of Israel and the Palestinians is dismal at best, but she really begins to shine when she attempts to draw comparisons between that conflict and “similar” situations in the United States. The Free Beacon brings us the extended video and her rationale as to why conflict in Gaza is pretty much the same as what you find in places like… Ferguson, Missouri.

The New York Democrat explained that she sees Palestinians being killed as no different than if American protesters were killed by the U.S. government.

“The lens through which I saw this incident [at the Israel-Gaza border], as an activist, as an organizer—60 people were killed in Ferguson, Missouri, 60 people were killed in the South Bronx, unarmed, 60 people were killed in Puerto Rico—I just look at that incident … just as an incident, and to me it would just be completely unacceptable if that happened on our shores,” she said.

After admitting yet again that she’s, “not the expert on geopolitics on this issue,” she actually went on to offer solutions. Not being one to shy away from confronting a problem, the savior of the Democratic Party volunteered to sit down and broker a Mideast peace solution.

“I am a firm believer in finding a two-state solution on this issue, and I’m happy to sit down with leaders on both of these —for me, I just look at things through a human rights lens, and I may not use the right words. I know this is a very intense issue.”

In the interview, Ocasio-Cortez referred to “the occupation of Palestine,” although no Palestinian state currently exists. She went on to explain that this is an important issue on which she is “willing to learn and evolve.”

Yes indeed. Kissinger couldn’t do it. Reagon, Clinton and both Bushes somehow couldn’t crack the code. Jared Kushner has yet to produce tangible results. But if we send over a bartender from the Bronx who hasn’t even won a seat in Congress yet, packing a copy of Mideast Peace for Dummies in her purse, success should soon be within our grasp.

As far as winning that seat goes, the candidate clearly doesn’t feel as if she needs to campaign in her district anymore. She’s been taking her show on the road and will soon be in Michigan to campaign for gubernatorial candidate Abdul El-Sayed. (His actual name is Abdulrahman Mohamed El-Sayed.) The candidate, a health specialist, says that he was inspired to run for Governor after learning about the Flint water crisis. That probably makes Ocasio-Cortez a perfect fit for his campaign because I’m pretty sure she believes the water problems in Flint are pretty much the same as the Israeli occupation of the nation of Palestine. (Pretty much everything is, you know.)

She has more stops on her schedule too, leading me to wonder precisely how heavily the Democratic Party plans to lean on Ocasio-Cortez as the face of their hopes for the midterms. She’s already proving to be error-prone, arrogant and wholly unrealistic in terms of the “benefits” of socialism as a replacement for ugly old capitalism. At this point, even some of her Democratic allies are getting tired of their new savior, with some warning that “meteors fizz out” pretty quickly.

Some legislators are voicing concerns that Ocasio-Cortez appears set on using her newfound star power to attack Democrats from the left flank, threatening to divide the party — and undermine its chances at retaking the House — in a midterm election year when leaders are scrambling to form a united front against President Trump and Republicans.

The members are not mincing words, warning that Ocasio-Cortez is making enemies of soon-to-be colleagues even before she arrives on Capitol Hill, as she’s expected to do after November’s midterms.

“She’s carrying on and she ain’t gonna make friends that way,” said Rep. Bill Pascrell (D-NJ).

This is a mistake that Democrats have made before, latching onto someone they believe is destiny’s child and the next savior of their electoral hopes. But loading too many of your hopes in an untested messenger comes with risks. Fame and destiny were thrust on Barack Obama after his 2004 convention speech. He went on to some significant victories for himself, but he wound up being a mediocre president whose personal popularity clearly didn’t carry over to benefit the rest of his party once he was done. Do the Democrats want to make that mistake again?

I certainly hope so.

Klein: Iran Using Gaza Rocket Campaign to Threaten Israel Over Syria

There can be little doubt that the massive escalation of projectile attacks from the Gaza Strip the last two days was a transparent attempt by Iran to utilize its Palestinian terrorist proxies in Gaza to impact the current talks between the U.S., Israel and Russia about countering the Iranian presence in Syria.

We must stop suffering fools

We must stop suffering fools
An old adage says we should “gladly suffer fools.” The opposing view is that we should “stop doing stupid.” Either way, the key concern is the direct impact that not confronting stupid or shortsighted actions has on morale and the long-term effectiveness of any decision-making/leadership process.

Patrons don’t tip server because they ‘don’t tip [terrorists].’ He’s a Christian — with a message.

Khalil Cavil, a 20-year-old restaurant server at an Odessa, Texas, eatery, revealed that he received a bigoted message on one of his receipts.

What are the details?

The message conveyed that the patrons whom he’d served on Saturday evening would not be tipping him because they “don’t tip [terrorists].”

The total bill came to $108.73, and Cavil received no tip on the check.

The patrons circled his first name on the receipt, and wrote, “We don’t tip terrorist [sic].”

The thing is, Cavil isn’t a terrorist, or a Muslim, or even a person with middle eastern roots — and he’s a Christian, to boot.

Cavil told KPEJ-TV that his parents named him after a fallen military pal who was also named Khalil.

“My dad was in the military and a buddy that he was very close to, served with him … Khalil was killed in an accident and so my dad just named me after him, one of his best friends,” he said according to KPEJ.

“My heart just dropped, I didn’t know what to [say] or what to think in the moment but there’s hurt there,” Cavill said.

According to the Odessa American, Khalil means “friend” in Arabic.

“It was not about the money. It was never about the money, it’s about shedding the light on an issue I feel very passionate about,” Cavil told KPEJ, and said that it was his faith in God that prompted him to share his story on a public level.

“I just had to think … what would Jesus do in this situation?” he told the outlet.

On Sunday, Cavil shared a photo of the receipt on his Facebook page.

He captioned the snap, “Last night at work I received this note from one of my tables. At the moment I didn’t know what to think nor what to say, I was sick to my stomach.”

“I share this because I want people to understand that this racism, and this hatred still exists,” Cavil added. “Although, this is nothing new, it is still something that will test your faith. All day I’ve had to remind myself that Jesus died for these people too. I have decided to let this encourage me, and fuel me to change the world the only way I know how.”

He concluded, “So to all the haters out there, keep [talking], [you’re] only helping me step into my destiny!”

Anything else?

According to a report in the Odessa American, the customer(s) in question are no longer permitted at the eatery.

Company COO Terry Turney told the outlet, “We stand by and support our employee. Racism of any form is unacceptable and we have banned this customer from returning to our establishment.”

Illegal border crossing caught on video in broad daylight—and less than 100 yards from port of entry

An illegal border crossing in broad daylight was caught on video by a CBS News reporter — and it all took place less than 100 yards from a port of entry, the network said.

CBS News’ David Begnaud said he and his producer — working on a story last Wednesday about the border wall President Donald Trump wants to build — crossed the Rio Grande river on an international bridge from Roma, Texas, into Mexico.

As they positioned themselves along the river bank, Begnaud noticed a man on a raft paddling across the water to the U.S. side, and the reporter began recording the action with his cellphone, CBS News said. Two other people in the raft appeared to be wearing life jackets, he reported.

‘We were scared’

Then a “scout” — using a walkie-talkie to communicate with the smuggler in the raft — approached Begnaud and his producer, speaking in Spanish and waving his arms and telling the pair to leave, CBS News said.

The scout followed Begnaud and his producer to their rental vehicle, leaned on the window, and told them the area wasn’t safe for them, the network said.

“We were scared,” Begnaud reported. “It was ominous to listen to him.”

He added that the scout “watches” and “lets the smuggler know how to get the people on to the other side.”

About 10 minutes later, Begnaud and his producer were back on the U.S. side of the Rio Grande — and they took video of the same smuggler walking back across the river.

The smuggler spotted the pair and gave them the finger as he continued across, Begnaud reported.

‘This is an example of why the Trump administration has been pushing for a border wall’

“This is an example of why the Trump administration has been pushing for a border wall,” Begnaud added later in his report on the incident.

He also said area residents told him they “need more Border Patrol officers, more cameras, more blimps, and more modern technology to try and detect the people who are crossing.”

But the quickness and ease with which the smuggler crossed — and the passengers presumably escaped into the U.S. — demonstrated to Begnaud that “you don’t need much modern technology to see what we saw today,” CBS News said.

More from the network:

The incident highlights an ongoing issue that U.S. Border Patrol has been talking about: people swim or walk from Mexico to the U.S. across the Rio Grande river. What was surprising, however, was that it happened in broad daylight about 100 yards from the international bridge where dozens of Customs and Border Protection officers were stationed.

Those officers, however, are focused on vehicles. CBS News did see two uniformed officers standing on top the bridge, checking people as they walked onto the bridge and into the U.S.

Around the time the incident with the raft occurred, there was a shift change for Border Patrol. A source within the agency said smugglers know exactly what time to do this type of activity on the river, Begnaud reports.

CBS News added that as far as it could tell, Border Patrol never found the two people smuggled across the Rio Grande even though two agents were called to look for them.

What did Border Patrol have to say about the incident?

“Roma, Texas, is located in one of the most volatile areas of the southwest border,” U.S. Customs and Border Protection told the network in a statement. “Smuggling events occur daily, at all hours, as criminal organizations seek to exploit any shortages or gaps in border infrastructure, technology and personnel.”

MSNBC Compares Trump’s Meeting With Putin to the 2,403 Americans who Died at Pearl Harbor

There were plenty of reasonable responses to President Donald Trump’s summit and subsequent news conference with Vladimir Putin in Helsinki Monday. For the record, this writer gets what he was trying to accomplish — tell reporters who insisted on pressing the hacking indictment question, “Look, what do you want me to do here? And what will it accomplish?” — but it definitely wasn’t the finest moment of his presidency.

Either way, as I said, plenty of reasonable responses are available from either side of the aisle. Not one of them? Comparing it to Pearl Harbor or the most infamous pogrom against Jewish people in Nazi Germany.

That wonderful reaction to the new conference came from a contributor on MSNBC, a channel soon to be renamed “The Collusion Network” or “Stormy Center” (NBC bosses are likely still deciding which to go with).

Jill Wine-Banks, a former Watergate prosecutor and contributor for MSNBC, is an individual who has no sense of proportion. Appearing with Ali Velshi on “All In,” she said that Russia’s election interference was equivalent to the worst attacks in our nation’s history, and the news conference was even worse.

Wine-Banks began by noting that in the Watergate case, the burglars were Americans.

TRENDING: Sanders Goes Off the Cuff, Demolishes CNN in a Way Only Sarah Knows How

“And yet, we were burglarized this time by foreign agents. And it’s just as serious to me as the Cuban Missile Crisis, in terms of an attack, or the 9/11 attack.”

“The president is taking the side of the people who attacked us instead of trying to prevent a future attack,” she continued.

“He has done nothing to make sure that the elections four months away are going to be safe. And I would say that his performance today will live in infamy as much as the Pearl Harbor attack or Kristallnacht. And it’s really a serious issue that we need to deal with.”

Do you think this statement went too far?

There were plenty of people blowing what happened Monday out of proportion, but I think that Wine-Banks’ reaction has to take the febrility prize.

First, there’s the obvious — this individual wants us to believe that the death of 2,403 Americans in the first attack against Americans in World War II or the 1938 pogrom in Germany in which Jewish businesses were burned and 30,000 Jewish men and boys were arrested and transferred to concentration camps by Nazi officials is actually comparable to a news conference. This is a woeful lack of perspective and proportion, indicative of someone who shouldn’t be asked serious questions on national televison.

Second, without reducing the gravity of election interference, it isn’t, again, comparable to a crisis that nearly ended in nuclear war or a terrorist attack that killed 3,000 individuals.

And there’s an array of other incorrect or ridiculous things in Wine-Banks’ statement. One does not need to automatically deduce that Trump “is taking the side of the people who attacked us” if you didn’t think like his performance on Monday.

Oh, and as for doing nothing about election security when it comes to the midterms, the president signed a bill that allocated $380 million for election security back in March, so that’s also untrue (in case you were surprised).

RELATED: MSNBC Segment: Trump’s SCOTUS Pick Will Throw Women in Jail for Miscarrying

All in all, however, this was simply indicative of how overheated media coverage was. In fairness, few had the gall to compare Russian hacking to 9/11, or a presidential news conference to the bloodshed of Pearl Harbor. But mostly, the responses were indicative of a media that was looking to seize upon a moment — any moment — they could when criticizing Trump.

The media’s problem is that this has happened so often by now that it’s mostly without effect. We’ve seen so many moments that the media has vouchsafed to America are so important and so damaging to Trump that we can divide his presidency into before X/after X — the Comey firing, the Cohen raid, Charlottesville, etc. None of them have turned out to be as important as we were told.

No, I wasn’t impressed by Monday. However, this wasn’t the worst summit we’ve had with the Russians — Vienna in 1961 still takes that prize, for my money — and it certainly wasn’t Pearl Harbor.

If this is the kind of contributor that MSNBC is willing to countenance, even trumpet, viewers can only roll their eyes at every other claim that comes out of the network.
