Facebook revealed late Friday that it had a special deal with certain companies, allowing them access to certain user data that others weren’t granted.
Specifically, the tech giant said that 61 companies had been provided with an exemption to a new rule that blocked apps from viewing or collecting details about people’s social media friends.
It comes in response to further questions lawmakers had that weren’t answered during congressional hearings involving CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
Many public officials and much of the public have grown increasingly worried about Facebook’s effect on society, as well as its particular practices after it disclosed in mid-March that it was suspending a data analytics firm for inappropriately collecting millions of Facebook users’ personal information.
Facebook supposedly said in the 747-page report sent to Congress that it had unique agreements with certain third-parties that gave them extra time to abide by new policies and satisfy its technical requirements.

“In April 2014, we announced that we would more tightly restrict our platform APIs (application programming interfaces) to prevent abuse. At that time we made clear that existing apps would have a year to transition — at which point they would be forced (1) to migrate to the more restricted API and (2) be subject to Facebook’s new review and approval protocols,” the report reads. “The vast majority of companies were required to make the changes by May 2015.”
Companies that weren’t immediately bound by the rules and were able to access users’ friends’ data for six months include tech companies like Oracle, Spotify, Panasonic and Snap as well as UPS, the dating app Hinge and Audi.
Sixty companies were given the six-month extension, while one was afforded eight extra months. (The full list is available on pages 95-96 of the report.)
“Why did Facebook wait so long to eliminate this function?” the company asked itself in the report.
Its answer essentially is: Everyone was doing it, and it was to enhance the user experience.
But it now promises to review its platform, “tell people about data misuse,” “turn off access for unused apps,” “restrict Facebook Login data,” “reward people who find vulnerabilities” and update its policies to reflect these changes.
“The purpose of these partnerships was to build Facebook and Facebook features into the partners’ devices and other products,” Facebook Vice President of Product Partnerships Ime Archibong said in a statement obtained by The Daily Caller News Foundation.
“People were only able to access these experiences — and the information needed to support them — when they logged in or connected their Facebook account. In April, we publicly announced that we’d start shutting down these APIs — and we continue to make other changes that restrict the information people can share to better protect their privacy.”
The latest report follows a Wall Street Journal article in June that said Facebook had special agreements with certain companies. Some of those are included in Facebook’s lengthy communication with Congress, apparently showing that the WSJ report was true.
Perhaps most notably, the latest report from Facebook is fairly detailed, at least relative to the 450 pages of information it gave the Senate, which was seemingly riddled with generalities and legalese, for the most part — rather than candor and explicit details.

MSNBC political analyst Zerlina Maxwell said Monday that United States Circuit Judge Amy Coney Barrett has hate group ties, referring to the religious freedom legal organization Alliance Defending Freedom.
Maxwell said on MSNBC’s "Hardball" that Barrett is "very Catholic" and cited former Democratic Sen. Al Franken’s accusations against Barrett during a hearing last year. Franken declared ADF a "hate group" and asked why Barrett had ties to the group, accusing them of "call[ing] for the sterilization of transgender people abroad."
Franken was repeating the Southern Poverty Law Center’s charge that the ADF supports "sterilization," when the group had pointed out that those who chose to undergo sex change operations can have their legal sex changed. ADF did not say this is the only instance in which someone’s legal sex could be changed, despite SPLC’s claim.
Nevertheless, Maxwell called ADF a "hate group," citing Franken’s words as her only evidence.
"Amy Barnett [Barrett] went to Notre Dame, she is very Catholic," Maxwell said. "She had a famous moment with former Senator Al Franken during her hearings about how she spoke, essentially, to a hate group without really understanding the full context there."
Franken resigned from the Senate in disgrace after a photograph of him groping a woman led to a slew of accusations against him last year. The SPLC, for its part, has a history of labeling peaceful organizations "hate groups," and recently had to pay a 7-figure settlement to the Quilliam Foundation for labeling it and its founder "anti-Muslim extremists."
Barrett endured Franken’s attack as well as criticism of her religion to be confirmed by the Senate to the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals. Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D., Calif.) questioned whether she would fairly interpret the law because Catholic "dogma lives loudly within you."
Maxwell said "voting rights, women’s rights, workers’ rights, affirmative action," and other things are all on the line with with the newly open Supreme Court seat. She said Democrats should do everything they can to prevent Republicans from confirming "a very extreme or conservative person" like Barrett to the Court.
Liberals have been fuming over the prospect of President Donald Trump nominating an originalist judge, similar to his first appointment Neil Gorsuch, to fill Anthony Kennedy’s former seat. "Hardball" anchor Chris Matthews, who was on vacation Monday, has told democrats they must find a way to stop Trump’s eventual nominee.

When the Department of Justice announced this month that investigators had pieced together records found in a shredder belonging to the president’s former lawyer Michael Cohen, critics, legal experts, and journalists feverishly speculated about what they might contain.
Michael Avenatti, the lawyer for adult film star Stormy Daniels and Cohen’s devoted nemesis, tweeted that the shredded documents could be a “huge problem.” MSNBC host Ari Melber devoted a large part of his program in May to the shredded documents and suggested that “something is going down.” Asha Rangappa, a former FBI agent and CNN analyst, tweeted: “This is not going to end well for the defense.”
Now, BuzzFeed News has obtained documents reconstructed by the FBI. A close examination shows that the records are a combination of documents that prosecutors already had, handwritten notes about a taxi business, insurance papers, and correspondence from a woman described in court filings as a “vexatious litigant” who claims she is under government surveillance.
Rebuilt from thin strips of paper, the shredded records are sometimes difficult to comprehend. One page doesn’t include full words and is a jumble of numbers, letters, and bar codes. One document appears to be part of an envelope. There are fragments of handwritten notes. There is an invitation to a reception in Miami to meet with business representatives from Qatar. Several of the records seem to be insurance forms for an apartment.

ABC, CBS, and NBC completely ignored the horrific death threat issued to Republican Senator Rand Paul (KY) and his family during their evening broadcasts on Monday, even as the liberal media continue to pontificate about President Trump’s supposed incitement of incivility across the country. Meanwhile, the same networks found ample time to discuss news of anti-Trump NBA star LeBron James moving to the L.A. Lakers.
Earlier that day, U.S. Capitol Police arrested a man who allegedly called Senator Paul’s Bowling Green office and threatened to “chop up” the Senator and his family with an axe. “Thank you to the US Capitol Police for their arrest of the man who recently threatened to kill my family and me,” Paul said in a tweet Monday afternoon, which left the networks plenty of time to put something together for their programs.

The Senator spoke with local ABC affiliate WHAS11 on Monday where he revealed what happened and lamented the state of our politics:
Capitol Police have issued an arrest warrant for a man who threatened to kill me and chop up my family with an axe. So, I mean, it’s just horrendous that we’re having to deal with things like this — that on top of being attacked personally, having a very serious, life-threatening basically attack on my person, and then being shot at, I’ve had a year where it’s just becoming more and more aware that we have these real threats out there.
In a little more than a year, Senator Paul has had to deal with being shot at during the politically motived attack on the Congressional Republican baseball team practice, getting physically assaulted by a neighbor over an apparent lawn dispute, and now this.

This death threat blackout came after “[a] 33-year-old California man, Markara Man, was charged last week with threatening to kill FCC Chairman Ajit Pai’s children,” according to Fox News. “Man was allegedly angry that the FCC voted to repeal the Obama-era net neutrality rules.” This case was also largely overlooked by the networks.
A year ago, the Media Research Center documented ABC’s and CBS’s utter omission of a shooting threat against the Tucson, Arizona office of Republican Senator Jeff Flake. At the time, NBC correspondent Kasie Hunt was the only network reporter to mention it.
“Outside of Republican Senator Jeff Flake’s Tucson office, two people arrested,” Hunt said. “A staff member alleging one alluded to the shooting of Minority Whip [sic] Steve Scalise. Saying, quote: ‘You know how liberals are going to solve the Republican problem? They’re going to get better aim.’”
Evidently, the liberal networks were more interested in the career of a professional athlete than the safety of a Republican politician and his family.

The Gateway Pundit has learned that the man who was arrested for making multiple calls threatening Senator Rand Paul was a Democratic Berkeley resident, who used the hashtag #ObamaForLife in some of his threats.
Nathanial Blaine Luffman
Nathanial Blaine Luffman, a devoted Democrat, is originally from Kentucky and left messages for Paul saying that he was going to “gut you like a hog” and leave “your kids bowels splayed out across floor blood spattered on the door as you lay dead.” The man had allegedly called the threats into Paul’s office in Bowling Green.
Mercury News reported that Luffman also allegedly left a voicemail threatening to “hack to pieces” the official and his daughters, used the hashtag #ObamaForLife and claimed that the official was involved in a plot to assassinate ex-President Barack Obama in Kentucky. The Gateway Pundit can confirm that this official was Senator Paul.
In a post on his Facebook page on June 28, Luffman wrote that “today’s theme is #Trouble #DoubleTrouble I mean #BidenBlaine like 2020 Election #BornToRun it’s our theme song. You probably don’t understand I had to be the #Senator of Kentucky. It’s not about money or White House but my #Pride the idear somebody else sitting in that Senate Seat other than me #Unacceptable I just could not handle the idea too many #Hens to be had,” with a bunch of chicken emojis.
He frequently livestreamed from UC Berkeley, which he claimed is a sovereign nation “independent & free from any and all over sight by any nation or people’s.”

Luffman was also involved with making threats to other politicians, but their identities have not been revealed.
Paul mentioned the threats during a speaking event in Litchfield, Kentucky, on Monday.
“Capitol Police have issued an arrest warrant for a man who threatened to kill me and chop up my family with an axe,” Paul said. “It’s just horrendous that we have to deal with things like this.”
Luffman has been charged with a single count of retaliating against a federal official by way of threats, which carries a maximum of ten years in prison.
The news comes shortly after federal prosecutors announced that they have appealed the 30-day sentence of Paul’s neighbor who attacked him last year and broke several of his ribs. U.S. Special Attorney Bradley Shepard filed the motion to appeal Rene Boucher’s sentence for the vicious assault to the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals on Monday. Prosecutors had been seeking a 21-month sentence.

Democrat hate speech targeting deplorables has always worked — on their own voters. Libeling Republicans as racist, homophobic morons has kept Democrat voters in line. President Trump laughs at their insults, and just gets stronger. Suddenly, one more Trump success. The Democrat line is breaking. Our minorities are breaking free.
President Trump’s off the charts achievements on jobs and security are improving the lives of every single Democrat identity voting bloc. A small, but increasingly significant number are noticing. With his MAGA gains on the economy and foreign affairs, President Trump is slowly chipping away at the Democrat Party’s foundations. The white working class already belongs to Trump. Fed up blacks, Hispanics, millennials and gays are starting to follow.
Ordinary people, including our minorities, are focused on the reality of their lives. Most Americans actually care about exactly the two big issues Trump cares about: jobs and personal safety. They notice more money in their paychecks. They notice when they get off food stamps and the unemployment line. They notice when they move from flipping hamburgers to a high-paying construction or assembly-line jobs. Securing our border, supporting cops, defeating ISIS in Syria, pressuring North Korea to “denuke” — ordinary people get that we are safer than we were under Obama. Democrats can scream as loud as they want, but they cannot drown out reality.
On top of it, the screaming is turning people off. In the words of a gay woman, member of the #WalkAway movement,
Lea Anna Bright, in a mohawk, looks into the camera and says in a slow, simmering voice: “This is a Vice article I am reading right now. It says, ‘The activist left doesn’t give a shit about your calls for civility. Get ready for a summer of rage.’” She looks up. “This is where the party is going, and this is why I chose to walk away. Peace. Not for me. Bye.”
As Michael Goodwin notes in the New York Post, Trump is gaining inside Democrat strongholds. He is reaching women and non-whites. A Harvard/Harriss poll shows a 10-point upswing among Hispanic voters. He has made a four-point gain among Democrats.
Pollsters attributed the rise to the strong economy and that a whopping 75 percent approved of the president’s decision to meet with North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un.
Finally, a Pew finding about Trump supporters upends stereotypes: Just 31 percent are white men without college degrees, while 66 percent are college graduates, women or nonwhites.
Millennials are growing up, getting jobs and paying taxes. They are still turned off by the Republican Party (as are Trump supporters). They are stubbornly unwilling to give President Trump personal credit. But they recognize his pro-growth agenda is a good thing, and they don’t want Pelosi to wreck the economy.
Millennials are telling Reuter/Ipsos pollsters that they are going to vote Republican in the mid-terms. In 2016, white millennials supported Democrats for Congress by a whopping 47 to 33 percent. No more. Millennial support for Democrats has fallen by almost 10 percent. If sustained, this is seriously bad news for Democrats.
For the first time, millennials will be the largest eligible voting bloc surpassing baby boomers come November. Historically Democrats have relied on the youth vote to carry them over the finish line. This new polling suggests a blue wave may be less likely than previously thought.
Racial appeals are at long last getting old. Race-baiting is less effective delivered by Maxine Waters than by the nation’s first black president. A redpill video by a young black woman named Candace Owens, praised by Kanye West, is credited with creating a fateful first chink in the black voting bloc. Following Kanye’s tweet, President Trump’s approval among black men doubled, to 22 percent, and among all blacks, to over 16 percent.
This is bigger than Kanye. Trump promised blacks that if they gave him a chance, they would see real economic progress and he has delivered, big time. Blacks are working more than ever, many at better jobs. They like it — and have been voting differently in Michigan, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. According to a June Rasmussen poll, twice as many black voters will now admit they are better off under President Trump.
Unbelievably, thanks to an honest gay man’s viral video, #WalkAway, we are hearing from the ultimate Democrat stronghold, the LGBQT community. It turns out white gay men are not appreciating the blatant anti-white and anti-gender hate speech of the new Democrat left. “They’ll come for me, and then they’ll come for you,” Straka tells his listeners.
He shows a handout about the “privilege hierarchy’: white gay men are near the top of the privileged bad guys list. They get less victim points than white women, black women, trans and non-genders. Most gay men are quite successful financially. Democrat’s ginning up rage against successful white men is a turn-off. But it is more than that.
One gay man declares that before being gay, he’s a patriotic American. He appreciated President Trump’s Muslim travel ban, as a rational security measure. The two parties’ reaction to the Orlando massacre changed everything for him.
“Trump said he was going to protect gay men, and he did, [with] the travel ban. Hillary was telling Americans not to ‘pick on all Muslims because of this,’” and that did not feel like protection, Roberts says. “I swear to God, wanted to throw my shoe through the TV. “At that point I was like, I can’t do it anymore. I really can’t. (snip)
His assessment of the Democrats: “From immigration to everything, they are just a disaster. “They’re anti-American, anti-common sense, rational — anything good, they’re against it.”
We have seen astroturf movements, like Occupy Wall Street and the anti-gun children’s crusade. They soon fizzle away. The #WalkAway movement feels more like the Tea Party. It is based on people’s gut reality. The voices are not echoing talking points, they are from the heart, and carry a lot of power. The Tea Party stayed within the GOP and morphed into the Freedom Caucus. #Walkaway are lifelong Democrats totally leaving the blue tribe.

Fed up blacks, Hispanics, millennials and gays are starting to follow.
Ordinary people, including our minorities, are focused on the reality of their lives. Most Americans actually care about exactly the two big issues Trump cares about: jobs and personal safety. They notice more money in their paychecks. They notice when they get off food stamps and the unemployment line. They notice when they move from flipping hamburgers to a high-paying construction or assembly-line jobs. Securing our border, supporting cops, defeating ISIS in Syria, pressuring North Korea to “denuke” — ordinary people get that we are safer than we were under Obama. Democrats can scream as loud as they want, but they cannot drown out reality.
On top of it, the screaming is turning people off. In the words of a gay woman, member of the #WalkAway movement,
Lea Anna Bright, in a mohawk, looks into the camera and says in a slow, simmering voice: “This is a Vice article I am reading right now. It says, ‘The activist left doesn’t give a shit about your calls for civility. Get ready for a summer of rage.’” She looks up. “This is where the party is going, and this is why I chose to walk away. Peace. Not for me. Bye.”
As Michael Goodwin notes in the New York Post, Trump is gaining inside Democrat strongholds. He is reaching women and non-whites. A Harvard/Harriss poll shows a 10-point upswing among Hispanic voters. He has made a four-point gain among Democrats.
Pollsters attributed the rise to the strong economy and that a whopping 75 percent approved of the president’s decision to meet with North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un.
Finally, a Pew finding about Trump supporters upends stereotypes: Just 31 percent are white men without college degrees, while 66 percent are college graduates, women or nonwhites.
Millennials are growing up, getting jobs and paying taxes. They are still turned off by the Republican Party (as are Trump supporters). They are stubbornly unwilling to give President Trump personal credit. But they recognize his pro-growth agenda is a good thing, and they don’t want Pelosi to wreck the economy.
Millennials are telling Reuter/Ipsos pollsters that they are going to vote Republican in the mid-terms. In 2016, white millennials supported Democrats for Congress by a whopping 47 to 33 percent. No more. Millennial support for Democrats has fallen by almost 10 percent. If sustained, this is seriously bad news for Democrats.
For the first time, millennials will be the largest eligible voting bloc surpassing baby boomers come November. Historically Democrats have relied on the youth vote to carry them over the finish line. This new polling suggests a blue wave may be less likely than previously thought.
Racial appeals are at long last getting old. Race-baiting is less effective delivered by Maxine Waters than by the nation’s first black president. A redpill video by a young black woman named Candace Owens, praised by Kanye West, is credited with creating a fateful first chink in the black voting bloc. Following Kanye’s tweet, President Trump’s approval among black men doubled, to 22 percent, and among all blacks, to over 16 percent.
This is bigger than Kanye. Trump promised blacks that if they gave him a chance, they would see real economic progress and he has delivered, big time. Blacks are working more than ever, many at better jobs. They like it — and have been voting differently in Michigan, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. According to a June Rasmussen poll, twice as many black voters will now admit they are better off under President Trump.
Unbelievably, thanks to an honest gay man’s viral video, #WalkAway, we are hearing from the ultimate Democrat stronghold, the LGBQT community. It turns out white gay men are not appreciating the blatant anti-white and anti-gender hate speech of the new Democrat left. “They’ll come for me, and then they’ll come for you,” Straka tells his listeners.
He shows a handout about the “privilege hierarchy’: white gay men are near the top of the privileged bad guys list. They get less victim points than white women, black women, trans and non-genders. Most gay men are quite successful financially. Democrat’s ginning up rage against successful white men is a turn-off. But it is more than that.
One gay man declares that before being gay, he’s a patriotic American. He appreciated President Trump’s Muslim travel ban, as a rational security measure. The two parties’ reaction to the Orlando massacre changed everything for him.
“Trump said he was going to protect gay men, and he did, [with] the travel ban. Hillary was telling Americans not to ‘pick on all Muslims because of this,’” and that did not feel like protection, Roberts says. “I swear to God, wanted to throw my shoe through the TV. “At that point I was like, I can’t do it anymore. I really can’t. (snip)
His assessment of the Democrats: “From immigration to everything, they are just a disaster. “They’re anti-American, anti-common sense, rational — anything good, they’re against it.”
We have seen astroturf movements, like Occupy Wall Street and the anti-gun children’s crusade. They soon fizzle away. The #WalkAway movement feels more like the Tea Party. It is based on people’s gut reality. The voices are not echoing talking points, they are from the heart, and carry a lot of power. The Tea Party stayed within the GOP and morphed into the Freedom Caucus. #Walkaway are lifelong Democrats totally leaving the blue tribe.
Conservatives have been watching the anti-Trump hysteria with growing revulsion. In one corner, President Trump, delivering the goods on jobs, national, and personal security. In the opposing corner, Democrats’ rejection of our electoral system, fake news and calls to violence. We’ve been wondering how ordinary, decent Democrat voters will react.
They are starting to break free.
