Republicans Pounce: AP Claims GOP ‘Wielding Impeachment as Offensive Weapon’ as Democrats ‘Play Defense’

As the Democrat controlled House of Representatives barrels toward impeaching President Trump before Christmas, the Associated Press published a news article that paints Democrats as victims of a Republican offensive as public support for impeachment has stalled.

A victim of the Republican impeachment offensive.

AP tweeted this description of the article: “Right now, Republicans are wielding impeachment mostly as an offensive weapon, and Democrats are generally playing defense or changing the subject as 2020 congressional races rev up. It’s unclear how potent the issue will be by Election Day.”

For the nearly three years of his presidency, Democrats and liberals in the media have been maneuvering to impeach President Trump over anything that might hold up in the court of opinion because they refuse to accept that he defeated their candidate, Hillary Rodham Clinton. With the Ukraine phone call, they thought they finally had him. But as their false narrative of corruption has been exposed as a gossipy policy dispute by Deep State conspirators and Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA), support for impeachment has flatlined along sharp partisan divides with independents not persuaded to impeach. As Republicans seek to hold Democrats accountable after three years of a relentless assault using bogus scandals falsely accusing Trump of treason, bribery, obstruction and collusion with foreign governments, Democrats are now reported to be the victims.

Excerpt from the AP article:

Republicans aim to use the House drive toward impeaching President Donald Trump to whittle down Democrats’ majority by dislodging vulnerable incumbents from swing districts loaded with moderate voters.

It could work, especially in Democratic-held districts Trump carried in 2016 with throngs of independent voters who polls shows are closely divided over his removal. Or it could flop, in an era when news zooms by so swiftly that today’s concerns may be eclipsed in 11 months and many people are more focused on pocketbook issues such as health care costs.

“It will be part of the mosaic, but hardly the overriding issue,” GOP pollster Whit Ayres predicted about impeachment’s impact next November. “It will have faded by then and it will also have simply reinforced the preexisting attitudes and made them more intense.”

What’s clear is that for now, Republicans are wielding impeachment mostly as an offensive weapon and Democrats are generally playing defense or changing the subject as 2020 congressional races rev up. House Democrats will be defending their 233-197 majority, with four vacancies. Republicans will try preserving their 53-47 Senate control.

…After an initial uptick in support for ousting Trump over his efforts to pressure Ukraine to seek dirt on his Democratic political rivals, voters’ views have jelled.

About 9 in 10 Democrats support removing Trump and similar shares of Republicans back him, while independents are roughly evenly divided. Trump seems certain to be impeached, or found worthy of removal, by the Democratic-led House but likely acquitted by the GOP-majority Senate and kept in office.

Last fall’s elections left Democrats in control of 31 seats in districts Trump carried in 2016. GOP lawmakers hold just three seats in districts Democrat Hillary Clinton won. Democrats also outnumber Republicans 62-30 among freshmen, who are often more vulnerable targets…

As AP articles do, this article contains some valuable horse race information on what the two parties and outside groups are doing targeting vulnerable office holders with impeachment as a 2020 campaign issue. However, the framing of Republicans wielding impeachment as an offensive weapon against the Democrats is rich.

As one observer noted, “”Republicans are wielding impeachment mostly as an offensive weapon”? Democrats have been using impeachment as a weapon since January 20th, 2106. (sic) It started 19 min after Trump’s inauguration.”

A more accurate election analysis would note that going into 2020 Trump and the Republicans have a stellar record of accomplishment to run on while the Democrats have a record of accomplishing nothing but obsessing over impeachment by any means.

The AP article ends with one hard truth, though. It quotes Republican pollster Glen Bolger on the fate of any swing state Republican senator who votes to remove Trump from office:

“You can’t vote for removal,” Bolger said. “You’ll have just totally collapsed your base, your ability to raise money, to get volunteers.”

Photo Essay: Michael Bloomberg And A Panoply Of Accused Sexual Predators

Now standing next to someone who has been accused of being a sexual predator doesn’t mean that you are one or that you are aware of what that person was doing. But Michael Bloomberg may have the award for most pics next to accused sexual predators.

Via Free Beacon:

Former New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg recently became the second billionaire (but first multibillionaire) to enter the 2020 Democratic primary. As a result, some of the journalists employed by his Bloomberg News media empire are leaving to join his campaign. The news outlet also announced it would not investigate Bloomberg or any of the other Democratic candidates running for president.

VIDEO: Angry Liberal Lady with Mickey Mouse Voice Goes On Deranged Rant At Pro Trump Flag Wave

Today’s cringe moment is brought to you by this deranged leftist, who confronted a small group of people holding pro Trump signs and flags. This woman (?) immediately began shouting how her brother was Hillary’s attorney and her niece was Chelsea’s babysitter.

“MY BROTHER WAS HER LAWYER! HE WAS LAWYER OF THE YEAR! HE REPRESENTED HILLARY!” shouts this person of undetermined gender, before they (?) continued with “MY NIECE BABYSAT CHELSEA! YOU GUYS DON’T HAVE A CLUE WHAT’S GOING ON!… MY BROTHER PROTECTED HILLARY! HILLARY HILLARY HILLARY! YES!…. TRUMP’S A CROOK! IMPEACH IMPEACH IMPEACH!”

Best part is her voice, which comes off like a bad impression of Mickey Mouse.

Surprise, Surprise, The Latest College Racism Claim Turns Out To Be A Hoax

On November 16, two CNN reporters wrote about a student protest at Syracuse University over a series of alleged racist incidents on campus.

Competent readers will note that every instance of alleged racism on college campuses has turned out to be a hoax, yet media outlets still jump at every accusation. The latest allegation claims that a swastika was found painted on a wall, an unknown student was shouting racial epithets, more racist graffiti was found, and a racist manifesto was sent to several students’ cellphones.

Syracuse University is, of course, a liberal college campus located in one of the most liberal states in America, yet its students maintain it is a hotbed of racism. Students naturally took the allegations as fact and started protesting the university and demanding Chancellor Kent Syverud resign.

But just a few days after CNN and other media outlets spread news of the alleged racism at Syracuse, the manifesto story was debunked. CBS News reported last week that Syverud told the University Senate that authorities couldn’t find anyone who had received the manifesto, which was apparently a copy of the one written by the man who allegedly killed 51 people at two mosques in New Zealand earlier this year.

“It was apparent that this rumor was probably a hoax,” Syverud said, “but that reality was not communicated clearly and rapidly enough to get ahead of escalating anxiety.”

The university, according to Syverud, couldn’t respond appropriately to the manifesto claims due to the late hour of the allegations. The claim was that someone attempted to AirDrop the manifesto onto several students’ cell phones using the library wi-fi range. The next day, local, city, campus, state, and federal authorities held a news conference about the allegations.

The day after the press conference, students marched to Syverud’s house and demanded he resign if he didn’t give in to all their demands, which included an additional $1 million spent on diversity and combating racism.

The other incidents have not been debunked, as the manifesto has, but in the past, racist and derogatory graffiti has typically been painted by students wanting to “start a dialogue” for the alleged issue they had to fabricate. Racist graffiti is usually painted by African-American students, or College Democrats attempting to frame America and white people as racist. Threats to members of the LGBT community are usually sent by the person claiming victimhood.

At Syracuse, social activities at all fraternities were suspended after an African-American student said she was “subjected to a verbal racial epithet from a group of students and visitors.” An investigation is still ongoing into all allegations of racist behavior on campus.

Despite the near constant hate crime hoaxes on college campuses, media outlets continue to report that American college students are some of the most racist and bigoted people in the country. The New York Times recently published a lengthy, dramatic article titled “Racial Slurs, and the 15 Days That Shook Syracuse,” with only a brief mention of the manifest with the claim that it simply had not been confirmed to have happened.

After Bride’s Dad Dies in Line of Duty, 7 Officers Step In for Emotional Father-Daughter Dance

The father-daughter dance is one of the most emotional parts of a wedding. Many people are tempted to cry when the bride walks down the aisle, but unless the dance is lighthearted, it’s often the second-most teary segment of the wedding.

But they’re good tears, and when the opportunity for that special moment is ripped away, it’s devastating.

Kourtney Young, now Krietemeier, lost her father 14 years ago, when she was just 13. He was a police officer, and he was shot and killed on the job.

“We did everything together,” Kourtney told NBC’s “Today.”

“He was my best friend. So, not having him here for big moments is always really hard.”

TRENDING: Fake News Media Said Trump’s Golfing When He’s Actually in Afghanistan

One of those biggest moments took place in October, when Kourtney married Tanner Krietemeier, and she once again felt an emptiness.

“Of course, it’s super happy,” she explained, “but at the same time, there’s this sadness, there’s that thing that’s missing.”

“I had my dad’s necklace wrapped around my bouquet,” Kourtney told KDVR. “Tanner and I did a shot of Patron during the ceremony in his honor. We tried to make it fun — smiles, happy memories.”

The couple did their best to honor Donnie Young’s memory, and meanwhile, unbeknownst to Kourtney, her mother was planning something extra-special for the father-daughter dance that Kourtney thought would never happen.

Kourtney knew that two of her father’s colleagues would be walking with her down the aisle, and she was happy to have them there, as she said not having her dad to walk her down the aisle was a “really hard thing to think about.”

“So I was excited to have my mom walk me down because she’s everything to me,” she explained. “But having Jeff and Chris behind me was it really solidified everything and made me feel like he was a part of it.”

“I was excited to dance with my mom, but I kept thinking about my dad,” she told NBC. “I wanted him there too. I was kind of dreading that moment.”

So when her mom revealed her big surprise — that she’d chosen a song that had been special to Kourtney and her dad and asked seven of Donnie’s closest friends to dance with her — Kourtney got (understandably) emotional.

RELATED: NYPD Officers Pay for Headstone for Cop Killed in Line of Duty 102 Years Ago

“I was shocked,” she told KDVR. “The look on my face in the video was like, ‘Oh no.’ I just knew the tears were going to be flowing.”

“When I was super young, my dad got me small replica of his badge with his number on it for Christmas. He played that song when he gave it to me.”

As the officers danced with her, they told her how much her dad had meant to them and how proud of and excited they were for her and her new husband.

Officer Danny Veith noted that the bride wasn’t the only one ready to cry.

“Being the first to dance with her, I got to see every other officer walk out, very proud, happy fathers,” he told KDVR. “And then as they turned their back to Kourtney to return to our group, every single one of them was crying. At that moment, I was just so proud of these guys and how far they have come in the last 14 years.”

“There is no way I would’ve missed that. I’ve been talking with them since the day it happened, and I’ve tried to be there to support them every step of the way. This was a small part we could do to make sure he is never forgotten,” Officer Jeff Baran added.

While the dance was unexpected, it was a perfect way to honor her late father and not have to miss out entirely on the important moment.

“These are good, amazing people that put their lives on the line for us every single day,” Kourtney said, speaking of the officers. “You never know what’s going to happen, you never know if they will be there tomorrow, so make sure you tell them how much you appreciate them.”

ICE Sting Enraging Liberals Was Actually Started Under Obama

Here’s a pro tip for any liberal about to type out a rage-tweet about some perfidy committed by the Trump administration against immigrants: Check if it originated under Trump.

If it does, great. Knock yourself out. Get your thesaurus app running and look up synonyms for “disgrace.” See where you can throw some references to white supremacy in. Good times, right?

If it didn’t, just go back to Netflix. Trust me, I’ve seen how this ends, and it’s usually not well.

Remember “caging children?” Remember that heart-rending photograph of a child behind a chain-link fence who was being detained after illegally coming into the United States? Yes, it turns out that photo was actually from the Obama administration, which is somewhat of an issue if you’re going to get yourself in a lather over this.

The same thing happened when liberal luminaries across Twitter were incensed at a Wednesday report that an Immigration and Customs Enforcement sting had involved a fake university offering to extend student visas.

TRENDING: Fake News Media Said Trump’s Golfing When He’s Actually in Afghanistan

According to the Detroit Free Press, the sting involved individuals who had arrived in the United States on student visas and wanted to stay — but weren’t engaged in study. Instead, they were enrolled at a sham university called the University of Farmington in metropolitan Detroit, which purportedly offered graduate programs in technology and computer studies but was actually just a “pay to stay” farm.

The only problem, of course, was that it was run by ICE. The sting has ended with roughly 250 people being arrested, 90 in recent months.

The Detroit office of ICE’s Homeland Security Investigations said that of those arrested, “nearly 80% were granted voluntary departure and departed the United States.”

Do you think this sting was entrapment?

Seven of the eight individuals who would recruit the people to the university have also pleaded guilty.

Here’s a short Twitter roster of exactly who you might think would blindly tweet their outrage over something like this blindly tweeting their outrage over this:

RELATED: ICE Furious as ‘Dangerous Sanctuary Policies’ Allow Illegal Charged with Manslaughter To Flee to Mexico

So, yeah, you’ve probably guessed the kicker here — this started during the Obama administration, not under Trump:

That’s activist Ben Spielberg, noting the case of the University of Northern New Jersey.

UNNJ was created by ICE, just like the University of Farmington. According to BuzzFeed News, the sting began in 2013 and led to 21 individuals who acted as brokers and middlemen being charged.

In addition, the “students” all had their visas terminated and flagged for fraud — a problem if they ever wished to return to the United States.

At the time, Louis Farrell, then the director of ICE’s Student and Exchange Visitor Program, said students “should be wary of any recruiter who promises they can work without restrictions while attending school.”

Yes, this made news, but it didn’t cause outrage. The Democratic Party didn’t have its knives out for the Obama administration or Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Yet, now it’s “cruel and appalling,” according to a front-runner for the Democratic nomination.

In the University of Farmington case, assistant U.S. Attorney Brandon Helms said in a sentencing memo for one of the recruiters that the nature of the sham was clear to everyone involved.

“Their true intent could not be clearer,” the memo read. “While ‘enrolled’ at the University, one hundred percent of the foreign citizen students never spent a single second in a classroom. If it were truly about obtaining an education, the University would not have been able to attract anyone, because it had no teachers, classes, or educational services.”

And while the University of Farmington case is making headlines now, even that particular sting operation appears to have Obama-era origins.

“Records filed with the state Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) show that the University of Farmington was incorporated in January 2016,” the Free Press reported.

Unsurprisingly, none of this was ever mentioned in one of those tweets above. Curious, that.

Angela Merkel Says ‘Freedom Of Expression Has Its Limits,’ Must Be Regulated To Keep Society Free

German Chancellor Angela Merkel spoke out against free speech this week, suggesting the government can and should regulate what people say to keep society free.

Merkel, speaking at an event for the German Chamber of Industry and Commerce in Berlin, stumbled up the stairs before taking the podium and suggesting the government ban speech she considers “extreme” and decrying freedom of expression.

“We have freedom of expression in our country,” Merkel said. “For all those who claim that they can no longer express their opinion, I say this to them: If you express a pronounced opinion, you must live with the fact that you will be contradicted. Expressing an opinion does not come at zero cost.”

“But freedom of expression has its limits,” she continued. “Those limits begin where hatred is spread. They begin where the dignity of other people is violated. The house will and must oppose extreme speech. Otherwise our society will no longer be the free society that it was.”

Of course, determining what speech violates the dignity of other people is not something politicians or anyone else should be deciding, especially in today’s culture where liberals claim speech they disagree with is literally “violence” against them.

As Townhall noted, Germany passed a ban in 2018 that fined websites up to 50 million euros ($55 million) for not removing “hate speech” from their platforms quickly enough. The outlet also suggested Merkel’s attempts to suppress free speech were an effort to silence “critics of Merkel’s open-door immigration policies.

Indeed, if one is to talk about violating another person’s “dignity,” then Merkel’s policies toward immigration would be a prime example. Recall that on New Year’s Eve in 2015, upwards of 1,000 men sexually assaulted women on the streets in Germany. In the aftermath of the mass assaults, one German mayor blamed the women for being sexually assaulted, and the German government pledged to crackdown on those who criticize Muslim immigrants – who were accused of perpetrating the attacks.

The definition of “hate speech” and limitation thereof is not as clear cut as people may believe. This is why America’s First Amendment doesn’t have a “hate speech” exception. What is considered hate speech today may not have been considered so one hundred years ago, and what is acceptable today may not be acceptable in even 10 years, if current social justice trends are any indication.

Yet Europe continues to enact hate-speech laws that rest on the subjective analysis of those in positions of authority (and the most easily offended among us). For example, one county in the United Kingdom made catcalls and pickup lines illegal by labeling them hate crimes. The definition of hate crime in that county was defined as, “Incidents against women that are motivated by an attitude of a man towards a woman and includes behavior targeted towards a woman by men simply because they are a woman.”

These kinds of definitions plague anti-hate speech laws, as they open them up for abuse from those seeking attention and victimhood status.

Saturday Schadenfreude: Kamala Harris’s staff quits and tells media her campaign is a disaster

While the field of Democrats running for the party’s presidential nomination contains some seriously scorn-worthy politicians, Kamala Harris is the worst of the lot when it comes to dishonesty, hypocrisy, and a willingness to say or do anything to advance her career.  When she launched her campaign with a rally in Oakland, I was worried about the organizational capabilities that brought a claimed 20,000 people to downtown Oakland to cheer her on toward the White House. A woman her began her political career by sexually servicing a decades’ older powerful male politician who bestowed public office on her should not get anywhere near the Oval Office as its tenant.

Fortunately for the Republic, it’s been all downhill for her since then. She’s been called out by rivals for her hypocrisies, such as laughing about smoking pot after sending many people to prison for the same acts as a DA. And she has been a terrible manager of her campaign.

Now, as she languishes in the low single digits despite her twofer racial status and cis-female identity politics appeal to Democrats, and as the moneybags donors who call the shots abandon her, her staff is leaping from the sinking ship and dissing her to the media.

Politico:

Kelly Mehlenbacher, who worked on operations for Kamala Harris’ presidential bid and recently informed colleagues of her plans to resign over frustrations with the organization, has accepted a job with Michael Bloomberg, sources said Wednesday.

Mehlenbacher, who served as the treasury manager for Hillary Clinton’s 2016 campaign, will become deputy chief operating officer for Bloomberg, according to two Democratic officials familiar with the move.

Harris’ campaign has experienced significant turbulence as she fell far behind in polls. That includes layoffs and redeployments to Iowa, where she’s banking on a come-from-behind, top-three finish to jumpstart her spiraling chances in South Carolina.

Mehlenbacher was among a group of staffers who tendered their resignations amid the latest round of layoffs, which hit the operations team hard. The staff reductions and subsequent shifts have focused renewed attention on deep and long-standing dysfunction among the campaign’s top leaders.

If Kamala can’t manage a campaign staff, running the federal government is obviously beyond her capabilities.

The New York Times yesterday did almost a post-mortem in the campaign, as if it has already ended, in an article titled, ”How Kamala Harris’s Campaign Unraveled.”

In early November, a few days after Senator Kamala Harris’s presidential campaign announced widespread layoffs and an intensified focus on Iowa, her senior aides gathered for a staff meeting at their Baltimore headquarters and pelted the campaign manager, Juan Rodriguez, with questions.

What exactly was Ms. Harris’s new strategy? How much money and manpower could they put into Iowa? What would their presence be like in other early voting states?

Mr. Rodriguez offered general, tentative answers that didn’t satisfy the room, according to two campaign officials directly familiar with the conversation. Some Harris aides sitting at the table could barely suppress their fury about what they saw as the undoing of a once-promising campaign.

Somebody gave the Times Mehlenbacher’s “blistering” resignation letter. Somebody wants to make sure that Kamala’s reputation suffers as much damage as possible.Notably, the letter is not addressed to Harris, but rather, “To Whom it may concern.”(see below)

Their feelings were reflected days later by Kelly Mehlenbacher, the state operations director, in a blistering resignation letter obtained by The Times.

“This is my third presidential campaign and I have never seen an organization treat its staff so poorly,” Ms. Mehlenbacher wrote, assailing Mr. Rodriguez and Ms. Harris’s sister, Maya, the campaign chairwoman, for laying off aides with no notice. “With less than 90 days until Iowa we still do not have a real plan to win.”

(source)

Until she ran for president and put herself in a harsh spotlight, Harris had coasted along with the somnolent California media content to play PR agents for a female of color. Now that her shallowness and hypocrisy have been exposed, perhaps she will face an actual opponent with a chance of taking away her Senate seat in 2022.

A guy can hope….
