Biden Appears To Question Nikki Haley’s Brains, Report Says. Haley Shreds Him.

On Wednesday, Jamie Lovegrove, a reporter for the Post And Courier covering the South Carolina primary, reported that former Vice President Joe Biden, in an attempt to woo South Carolina voters, attacked former U.N. Ambassador and South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley for refusing to expand Medicaid, appearing to start saying she “didn’t have the brains.”

Lovegrove wrote, “Biden has started criticizing @NikkiHaley more  directly in South Carolina recently for declining to expand Medicaid here. In Georgetown, he appears to start saying she ‘didn’t have the brains’ before stopping himself and changing it to ‘foresight’ because he wants to ‘be polite.’”

Haley, getting wind of Biden’s remarks, fired back on Twitter, “Hold up, Joe. I will put my brain up against yours anytime. Bring it.”

Americans for Tax Reform applauded Haley’s restraint in September 2012, writing:

South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley has joined a number of other fiscally responsible governors in making the decision to opt out of Obamacare’s mandated Medicaid expansion. As ATR previously noted, the program is already growing at an unsustainable rate in its current state: “Nationwide, Medicaid costs are growing at an unsustainable rate, with taxpayers as always being on the hook for covering the soaring tab. According to a study by the John Locke Foundation, total federal and state Medicaid spending has ballooned from $70 billion in 1990 to approximately $400 billion today- -a budget busting 571 percent increase.”

… In South Carolina, 1 in 4 citizens are receiving Medicaid, and the state simply cannot afford an additional expansion of an entitlement that is already projected to eat up more and more of the state’s budget, squeezing out funding for other priorities such as education and transportation.

ATR added, “Americans for Tax Reform urges South Carolina legislators to follow the lead of Governor Haley, who has taken a fiscally prudent position on the issue. Gov. Haley not only opposes Obamacare’s Medicaid expansion, but has also come out in support of block granting Medicaid to the states, which allows states to take control of this runaway entitlement and reform how their tax dollars are spent.”

In September 2012, Anthony Keck wrote in Health Affairs: :

This year more than 1.1 million people will enroll in South Carolina Medicaid – almost one-quarter of our population – at a total cost of $5.95 billion. According to a recent study published in Health Affairs, the state has one of the highest rates of Medicaid physician participation, largely tied to its high Medicaid reimbursement rates.  Last year, while many states were cutting services, Gov. Nikki Haley and the Legislature invested $176 million of new recurring state funds in Medicaid to enroll about 65,000 low-income children through Express Lane Eligibility, replace one-time revenue with recurring sources, and expand the number of home and community-based placements available to our beneficiaries.

…  when Gov. Haley says South Carolina won’t accept the expansion of Medicaid under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, she does so because she believes that its version of expansion will ultimately hurt the poor, hurt South Carolina, and hurt the country by doubling down on a system that already delivers some of the lowest value in the world.

LGBT Activists Promote ‘Trans Reading Day’ in Public Schools

It started as just one rogue Wisconsin school, showing its LGBT pride. Now, five years later, it’s a national movement in public schools—and most parents have no idea it’s happening.

Do you want your child to be psychologically manipulated at school Thursday? Most moms and dads would say no.

But on Thursday, the Human Rights Campaign and its pals at the powerful National Education Association are teaming up to promote “Jazz and Friends National Day of School & Community Readings.”

“We want the listeners to know,” Family Research Council’s Meg Kilgannon told me on “Washington Watch,” “This could be happening in your school. Your children could be hearing a book [that is] very disturbing to young children.”

The book “I Am Jazz” is a favorite of transgender activists. It’s based on the real-life story of Jazz, a boy who was convinced that he was born in the wrong body.

“As a child he was injected with hormones to block his normal sexual development, and recently, he had radical surgery to complete his ‘transition’ to another sex,” Kilgannon says. “Which, of course, is impossible.”

Now, LGBT groups are pushing schools to make reading the book an annual event. The day will be used, FRC’s Cathy Ruse says, to promote gender deviance and LGBT politics to vulnerable children.”

“Not all schools are doing it. Yet. But some are,” she says.

In one school in Arlington, Virginia, administrators enlisted “mystery readers” to come read to children.

“The school has not revealed to parents who they are and what they will read,” Ruse warns.

And based on what we know about the “Drag Queen Story Hour” movement, that could mean anyone. To counterpunch, the Arlington Parents Coalition has urged parents to keep their kids home.

“We want all children to be treated with respect and dignity as children of God,” Kilgannon says, adding:

That’s a basic tenet of the Christian faith, of many faiths, that everyone should be, should have dignity. [But] that doesn’t mean that we need to reinforce these controversial ideas… that are untrue, biologically, and impossible. A boy cannot become a girl. A girl cannot become a boy.

But unfortunately, she warns, this kind of activity isn’t necessarily going to make it on the school calendar.

“It’s just something that’s going to happen—and then, once it’s over, it’s too late.”

Everyone should call their child’s school principal and ask, “Are you planning to have this reading in your school?”

If the principal says yes, it’s a great opportunity to turn in the universal opt-out letter available on Family Research Council’s website.

“It’s up to you what kind of a statement you want to make,” Kilgannon says.

But if your school is participating, make sure it knows where you stand.

The Left Is Thwarting Trump’s Efforts to Secure Border

Tremendous progress has been made in slowing the number of
illegal border crossers, but there is still a long way to go to fully secure
our border.

The Trump administration is successfully building a wall on
the border, negotiating with international partners who are helping slow the
flow of illegal border crossings, and putting resources into securing the U.S.
border.

In May 2019, nearly 150,000 people illegally crossing the U.S.-Mexico border were apprehended by U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Last month, that number had been reduced to about 30,000. Before the surge last year, we would have expected something closer to 10,000 to be caught.

Our aspiration is to prevent all illegal entries into our country. To that end, the Trump administration has been fighting leftists in Congress, the judiciary, and the media. They have attempted to impede efforts to reduce the number of illegal entrants, prevent deportation of those who are here illegally, and obstruct the enforcement of our immigration laws.

Democrats have thwarted efforts to fund the building of a
border wall. Even when they have given an inch, it has been cloaked in a veil
of regulatory burdens that effectively prevent completion of the wall.

When President Donald Trump has found money and eased regulatory hurdles to building the border wall, the left has searched for and identified conspiratorially complicit judges to issue orders forbidding building. Those orders have universally been overturned on appeal. Thus, the administration’s efforts continue, only after delays caused by the Democrats and the institutional left.

Those delays should be viewed with the understanding that walls actually produce a reduction of illegal entries. The leftists’ desired delays of the barrier has allowed hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens to enter the United States.

The left’s own open-border rhetoric has fueled the criminality that comes with purposefully ignoring our laws. The violation of the rule of law is particularly odious as the civil order and respect for one’s fellow human beings are products of the rule of law and are necessary conditions for freedom to exist. By submarining immigration laws, leftists remove the milieu necessary for perpetuation of the great American experiment in self-governance.

The left is attempting to crash one of the great accomplishments of the Trump administration in securing the border: the Migrant Protection Protocols.

Trump, by carrot and stick, persuaded Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador to place Mexican military personnel on the U.S.-Mexico border and to adhere to international law, which requires an asylum-seeker to wait in the closest country while his asylum claim is processed.

The MPP has allowed the U.S. to remove tens of thousands of Central American asylum-seekers to Mexico to await adjudication of their asylum claims. This took away the incentive to come to the United States illegally from the Northern Triangle states of Nicaragua, El Salvador, and Honduras. 

Last week, I led my fourth congressional delegation in the
last 15 months to the border to see improvements since the 2019 surge and
observe where we still have work to do in order to secure our border. We saw
improvements, such as new wall construction and new camera, radio, and lighting
towers. All help slow down illegal intruders.

There is still work to be done. In one urban area, less than
a half-mile in length, the wall has slowed down the crossers, but between
200-300 illegal aliens cross at that location every week. Other areas remain
totally unsecured. Walls work. But illegal crossings continue wherever there is
a gap.

Perhaps our friends on the left, who champion the end of the nation-state and rally for open borders, will join with the majority of Americans who love this nation and want our borders secured. Our generous immigration laws still allow more than 1 million people to lawfully enter the United States every year.

It is time to unite for the preservation of our national
sovereignty, and that begins by securing our national borders and ensuring the
geographical integrity of the country.

Re-election campaign for Kim Foxx, the prosecutor who let off Jussie Smollett, scores $2 million backing from George Soros

It’s like a harmonic convergence of progressive villains. Rachel Hinton of the Chicago Sun-Times reports:

A political action committee founded by liberal billionaire philanthropist — and Donald Trump nemesis — George Soros kicked $2 million to a committee supporting Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx in her re-election bid against three Democratic primary challengers.

A mega donor to Democrats and liberal causes, the hedge fund operator’s Democracy PAC transferred $2 million into the Illinois Justice and Public Safety PAC on Wednesday.

By law, a PAC that receives large donations and supports a candidate cannot coordinate with that candidate. So, Foxx is not directly receiving the money from Soros, but Soros cash is being dedicated to her re-election as state’s attorney. A re-election that would ratify the cronyism that allowed Jussie Smollett to escape prosecution when Foxx’s office declined to pursue charges against him for staging a fake hate crime and tying up substantial police resources needed elsewhere in the crime-ridden Windy City.

Foxx claimed to recuse herself for “familiarity with potential witnesses,” but declined to appoint a special prosecutor, as required when a conflict of interest is present.  Instead, she had a subordinate under her direct control take over the case, and that led to the prosecution being declined. Following a public firestorm, including denunciation by Chicago’s Chief of Police, a special prosecutor was appointed to pursue the case and investigate Foxx.

Now, Foxx faces a primary election on March 17 and is adopting a penitent pose. Mark Guarino reports for the WaPo:

 In the middle of a video announcing her reelection campaign, Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx did something few Chicago politicians do: She admitted fault.

Foxx had been criticized by President Trump, the Fraternal Order of Police and many Chicagoans for her office’s decision in March to drop all 16 felony disorderly conduct charges against actor Jussie Smollett, who police say staged a racist and homophobic attack involving two men with a noose. Then-Mayor Rahm Emanuel (D) called Foxx’s decision “a whitewash of justice.” Trump characterized it as “a real big scam.”

“Truth is, I didn’t handle it well. I own that,” Foxx (D) said in her two-minute video.

She faces 3 opponents in the Democrat primary, including one, BillConway, with a billionaire father. From the Sun-Times article above:

Conway’s campaign coffers have been bolstered by donations from his dad, William E. Conway Jr., one of the founders of the private equity firm the Carlyle Group. More than 88% of the challenger’s total warchest came from his dad, the Sun-Times found last month.

The senior Conway has a net worth of $3.5 billion, according to Forbes.

A poll released two days ago has Foxx and Conway tied at 26% support among Democrats, with the two other challengers getting a total of 10% and 36% undecided. No doubt the Soros millions will be a big help in a last-minute push by Foxx to grab those undecided votes.

Foxx is the progressives’ choice, favoring all the soft on crime initiatives currently all the rage on the Left, as the Chicago Crusader reports:

United Working Families, Real Justice PAC, the Chicago Federation of Labor, Personal PAC, and the Wheeling Township of Democrats have all endorsed Foxx, the first Black female Cook County State’s Attorney who is seeking a second term in office. (snip)

United Working Families Executive Director Emma Tai said in a statement, “As Cook County State’s Attorney, Kim Foxx has fought tirelessly against the root causes of violence and mass incarceration. She has exonerated 80 wrongful convictions, reduced prosecution of low-level offenses, and worked to expunge over 1,000 low-level possession convictions. These measures are essential to undoing the racist legacy and continued harm to communities of color under the failed War on Drugs.”

Real Justice PAC said, “Kim championed alternatives to incarceration and expunged tens of thousands of marijuana convictions. The number of people sentenced to jail or prison dropped by 20 percent. Her record speaks for itself. She is the reformer that Chicago needs.”

Chicago Federation of Labor President Bob Reiter said in a statement: “The Chicago Federation of Labor is proud to endorse State’s Attorney Kim Foxx in her campaign for re-election. While there is still much work to be done to help lift up communities that face social inequity, Kim has worked tirelessly towards making sure our criminal justice system works for everyone.”

“The only way we can continue our work to protect women’s rights is with progressive-minded elected officials by our side. Kim Foxx is that elected official that we can count on,” said Personal PAC President and CEO Terry Cosgrove in a statement. “She is a warrior for women and part of the Personal PAC community. We proudly support her bid for re-election.”

Wheeling Township Democrats: “State’s Attorney Kim Foxx has been a leader, and national example, of what real criminal justice reform looks like. She delivers true justice and equity to Cook County families and we know she will continue to do that work for the next four years. We’re proud to join her in this re-election campaign and provide our endorsement,” said Representative Mark Walker, committeeman for Wheeling Township Democrats.

Soros’s late entrance into funding Foxx must indicate worry that Chicgao could actually turn sensible in the wake of the Smollett fiasco.

Trump Win: Court Rules Trump Can Withhold Funds To States With ‘Sanctuary Cities’

A federal appeals court held Wednesday that the Trump administration can withhold millions of dollars in grants to states that set up Sanctuary Cities and refuse to work with federal immigration authorities.

The Associated Press reported that the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Manhattan made the ruling Wednesday morning, overturning a lower court decision that said the federal government had to release law enforcement grants to states that refused to cooperate with the federal government when it came to criminal illegal immigrants. The administration previously had refused to release the funding to seven states and New York City over their Sanctuary City policies. The affected states are Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, Virginia, and Washington.

“The states and city sued the U.S. government after the Justice Department announced in 2017 that it would withhold grant money from cities and states until they gave federal immigration authorities access to jails and provide advance notice when someone in the country illegally is about to be released,” the AP reported. “Before the change, cities and states seeking grant money were required only to show they were not preventing local law enforcement from communicating with federal authorities about the immigration status of people who were detained.”

As evidence has shown, cities and states have actively prevented local law enforcement from communicating with federal authorities about criminal illegal aliens. As The Daily Wire previously reported, U.S. Immigration Customs and Enforcement (ICE) arrested hundreds of criminal illegal aliens in September 2019, even as states across the country refused to inform them when criminals were being released from prison due to sanctuary city policies. In March 2019, ICE officials arrested more than 20 illegal immigrants after they were released from New York prisons without notifying federal authorities. In Illinois, Cook County ignored more than 1,000 ICE detainers in fiscal year 2019, allowing criminals back onto the streets to harm more U.S. citizens.

As the AP reported, three other federal appeals courts, representing additional states, ruled differently when it comes to federal grants and sanctuary cities.

“In the past two years, federal appeals courts in Chicago, Philadelphia and San Francisco have ruled against the federal government by upholding lower-court injunctions placed on the enforcement of some or all of the challenged conditions,” the AP reported.

The 2nd Circuit, however, stated that relevant laws give the U.S. Attorney General authority to impose conditions on those receiving federal grants. Further, the court stated the U.S. Supreme Court had ruled favorably for the federal government to exercise its powers over states regarding immigration enforcement.

The grant program in question is known as the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program, which was named after a 22-year-old New York City police officer who was shot to death “while guarding the home of a Guyanese immigrant cooperating with authorities investigating drug trafficking,” the AP reported. The grant was created in 2006 and provides more than $250 million in federal funding to state and local law enforcement agencies throughout the country.
