Harvard Professor Wants A ‘Presumptive Ban‘ On Homeschooling, Claims It Promotes White Supremacy

In a shocking essay for Harvard Magazine, a professor of law and director of Harvard Law School’s child advocacy legal clinic, claims homeschooling is a threat to children’s rights, a method of promoting white supremacy, and a drain on democratic society — and even goes so far as to suggest a national “presumptive ban” on the practice.

Harvard is playing host to a “homeschooling summit,” slated to take place (at least digitally) June 18-19, according to the Daily Caller News Foundation. But Harvard’s concern isn’t so much whether homeschooling is a viable, cost-effective, and comfortable method of education for many Americans, but rather whether homeschooling is (and homeschooled children are) a ticking time bomb.

The summit brings together a number of “experts” from across the spectrum to discuss the “problems of educational deprivation and child maltreatment that too often occur under the guise of homeschooling, in a legal environment of minimal or no oversight.”

Prof. Elizabeth Bartholet is leading the charge against those who actively resist public schools and she believes that the generation currently being homeschooled is an eventual, if not active, breeding ground for racism, sexism, and isolationism.

“Many homeschool precisely because they want to isolate their children from ideas and values central to public education and to our democracy. Many promote racial segregation and female subservience. Many question science. Many are determined to keep their children from exposure to views that might enable autonomous choice about their future lives,” she claims.

In the essay for Harvard Magazine, Bartholet goes one step further, arguing not just that homeschooling is, itself, problematic, but that it should be snuffed out as a practice by the heavy hand of American government.

“Homeschooling, she says, not only violates children’s right to a ‘meaningful education’ and their right to be protected from potential child abuse, but may keep them from contributing positively to a democratic society,” the article’s author reports.

“We have an essentially unregulated regime in the area of homeschooling,” Bartholet claims in the piece. Although every state has basic educational standards (that most homeschooling families not only meet but exceed), she believes that “if you look at the legal regime governing homeschooling, there are very few requirements that parents do anything.”

And her assumption, of course, is not that homeschoolers represent a wide swath of American families, but are, instead, largely uneducated themselves and looking to keep their children in the dark: “That means, effectively, that people can homeschool who’ve never gone to school themselves, who don’t read or write themselves.”

Worse still, Bartholet seems to argue, it’s possible these homeschoolers are…religious.

“[S]urveys of homeschoolers show that a majority of such families (by some estimates, up to 90 percent) are driven by conservative Christian beliefs, and seek to remove their children from mainstream culture,” Harvard Magazine warns. “Bartholet notes that some of these parents are ‘extreme religious ideologues’ who question science and promote female subservience and white supremacy.”

No doubt Bartholet believes that all religious ideologies are somewhat suspect.

Public schools, which can be breeding grounds of inefficiency, and often struggle to educate children on an individual level, Bartholet says, are places of miracles. Children who attend public school “grow up exposed to community values, social values, democratic values, ideas about nondiscrimination and tolerance of other people’s viewpoints.”

The central argument seems to be that children should be wards of the state, and that the state — not individual parents — should be charged with deciding what is best.

There is likely reason for concern, at least as far as the liberal educational establishment is concerned. The coronavirus lockdowns have exposed millions of parents not just to the concept of homeschooling, but to the curriculum of public schools — and perhaps in ways that might make them think twice about returning their children to a government-run educational system.

It Begins: Neiman Marcus to File for Bankruptcy As Early as this Week After Government’s Lockdown Orders

Neiman Marcus is the frist major US department store to go bankrupt due to government forced shutdowns of its 43 locations.

Many of 14,000 employees were furloughed weeks ago.

The Neiman Marcus Group also has two dozen Last Call stores and two Bergdorf Goodman stores in New York.

Reuters reported:

Neiman Marcus Group is preparing to seek bankruptcy protection as soon as this week, becoming the first major U.S. department store operator to succumb to the economic fallout from the coronavirus outbreak, people familiar with the matter said.

The debt-laden Dallas-based company has been left with few options after the pandemic forced it to temporarily shut all 43 of its Neiman Marcus locations, roughly two dozen Last Call stores and its two Bergdorf Goodman stores in New York.

Neiman Marcus is in the final stages of negotiating a loan with its creditors totaling hundreds of millions of dollars, which would sustain some of its operations during bankruptcy proceedings, according to the sources. It has also furloughed many of its roughly 14,000 employees.

It turns out that, when it comes to the Wuhan flu, sunlight is the best disinfectant

With Trump and his team announcing a plan for reopening America and suffering Americans starting to put pressure on their governments to allow businesses to re-open, Democrats are panicking and rightly so. This is going to be the summer of sunlight for them: Sunlight that kills the Wuhan virus and, if Attorney General Bill Barr and Inspector General John Durham have their way, sunlight that exposes the Democrats’ and Deep States’ attempted coup against President Trump.

Judging by the Democrats’ political conduct of late, they think the Wuhan flu has benefits for them. They’re holding hurting Americans hostage in an effort to get their leftist policies enacted through the medium of a relief bill. They’re also hoping that a recession will hurt Trump because so much of his presidency has been premised on a strong economy. Ordinary people, however, would rather have jobs than play politics. That’s why we’re starting to see protests all over.

It’s therefore time to share the fact that there is good news about the Wuhan flu. First, although mass social distancing and shutdowns may have not been the best approach, we can see that they’ve taken the pressure off of emergency rooms and given the medical community time to figure out better treatment options (e.g., hydroxychloroquine, Remdesivir, putting ventilated patients on their stomachs, and not using ventilators as much).

Also, Farr’s law gives us hope. Michael Fumento, after castigating the “expert” models, all of which have proven false, explains that there is one model that works:

The only “model” with any success is actually quite accomplished and appeared in 1840, when a “computer” was an abacus. It’s called Farr’s Law, and is actually more of an observation that epidemics grow fastest at first and then slow to a peak, then decline in a more-or-less symmetrical pattern. As you might guess from the date, it precedes public health services and doesn’t require lockdowns or really any interventions at all. Rather, the disease grabs the low-hanging fruit (with COVID-19 that’s the elderly with co-morbid conditions) and finds it progressively harder to get more fruit.

So far, Wuhan Flu reflects Farr’s law, for it’s playing out at a predictable rate that spells its imminent end.

And then there’s Trump’s prediction (or hope) that the virus will end as the weather warms. It also turns out his instincts about warm weather were correct. The Wuhan flu, like other coronaviruses, doesn’t like sunlight:

Government tests show sunlight rapidly destroys the CCP virus, according to a Department of Homeland Security science and technology report.

“Sunlight destroys the virus quickly,” the report states.

Researchers simulated sunlight and found it greatly increased the inactivation rate of the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) virus, a novel coronavirus that emerged from mainland China last year, on surfaces relative to darkness.

The half-life of the virus was 2 minutes with full solar intensity, or similar to New York City or the District of Columbia during a clear day on summer solstice.

“Sunlight reduced infectious virus to undetectable levels after just 3 minutes of exposure to the solar equivalent of midday sun on a sunny day in the middle latitudes of the U.S.,” researchers wrote.

Half solar intensity killed the virus in 3 minutes while quarter intensity, equivalent to a clear day at the end of February, inactivated it in 4 minutes.

Locking Americans inside as the weather warms is stupid. It’s time to set us free because sunlight is literally the best disinfectant.

Figuratively, sunlight is also a great disinfectant, and we’re going to see that as AG Barr and IG Durham expose the Democrats’ machinations and start prosecuting bad actors. We’ve already seen footnotes and interviews showing that the FBI knew that its justification for spying against Trump was garbage. More of that information is going to leak and some of it will be so bad that even a D.C. Grand Jury will find it almost impossible not to issue indictments.

Call me a cockeyed optimist, but I firmly believe that life in America is going to get better very quickly with a virus-less summer (followed by a vaccination), a resurgent economy, and a lot of perp walks in Washington.

No Police Raids? Syracuse Mosque Continues Holding Daily Prayers Amid COVID-19 Lockdown As Christians Are Threatened and Fined For Attending Drive-In Services

Why no police raids?

A Syracuse mosque is still open for daily prayers amid the Coronavirus shutdown as Christians are threatened and fined for attending drive-in services.

New York is the country’s Coronavirus epicenter with more than 18,000 deaths, however this mosque is still open for prayers.

This mosque located on the north side was once the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, but it closed down due to lack of parishioners — now it is considered a victory mosque.

Syracuse.com reported:

[Irfan Elahi] used his skills to create a prayer room covered in plastic with special ventilation that allows daily prayers to continue in the 116-year-old former church, as the holy month of Ramadan nears.

The room is lined with plastic, and two machines siphon air out of the room to create negative pressure. Air in the room is recycled every four minutes. Elahi used the materials and expertise from his day job to create what he called a “clean room.”

About 10 worshippers in masks are allowed in at a time, though rarely do that many show up. They stand far apart from each other as they follow a prayer leader standing on a plastic-covered prayer rug.

The Muslims who attend this mosque are not practicing social distancing. They are standing and praying closer than 6 feet apart, so why aren’t the police raiding this mosque and threatening the attendees with imprisonment and or fines?

WATCH:

Parishioners who attended a drive-in service at Temple Baptist Church in Mississippi were fined $500 each by police for violating ‘social distancing’ orders.

20 police cars swarmed King James Bible Baptist Church in Mississippi and pastor Charles Hamilton Jr., was told by a cop that his rights were suspended.

A Kentucky church parking lot was littered with nails on Easter Sunday and police officers harassed churchgoers by recording their license plates and leaving notes on their cars.

Clearly Christians are being singled out and persecuted.

Paging AG Barr!

1984: De Blasio Urges New Yorkers To Rat Out Social Distancing Violations By Texting Photos To Authorities

Mayor Bill de Blasio wants New Yorkers to tattle on anyone they see who is not following his social distancing orders during the coronavirus crisis by snapping a photograph on their cell phones and texting it to the city.

“How do you report places that aren’t enforcing social distancing? It’s simple: just snap a photo and text it to 311-692,” De Blasio wrote Saturday on Twitter.

“Now it is easier than ever,” the mayor said in a short video posted to his official Twitter account. “When you see a crowd, when you see a line that’s not distanced, when you see a supermarket that’s too crowded — anything — you can report it right away so we can get help there to fix the problem.”

“We will make sure that enforcement comes right away. Text the photo to 311-692 and action will ensue. Enforcement will come to get the help we need,” De Blasio warned.

“Look, this is important. I want to keep reminding people: This is about saving lives. Sending that photo in is going to help make sure that people are kept apart and that’s going to stop the disease from spreading and that’s going to save lives.” the mayor said.

The city’s social distancing guidelines, put out in March, direct residents to stand at least six feet apart from each other (not exactly easy on a packed subway car — or even a crowded sidewalk). De Blasio announced three weeks ago that people who violate the guidelines could face fines of up to $500.

The new call for New Yorkers to rat each other out did not go over well on social media.

References to George Orwell’s dystopian classic “1984” quickly emerged.

“Comrade citizen! Report all suspected anti-distancing activities to friendly New York Ministry of Social Cleanliness!” WROTE ON PERSON ON tWITTER.

Shots of Adolf Hitler also popped up.

De Blasio’s guidelines during the coronavirus crisis are some of the most stringent in the nation.

“I certainly do authorize the use of fines in parks and playgrounds if needed. Again, what we’re going to do to begin, as we’ve been doing is – and the weather has been such that there haven’t been too, too many people out – but all of our enforcement officers have been [giving] warnings, have been educating, there’s been loudspeakers telling people the update, all that,” he said March 29.

“Now, it’s as simple as this. If someone is told by an officer [to] disperse, keep moving, you’re not distanced, and they don’t follow the direct instruction from our officer, or they say they’re doing it and then they come back right away, I’m comfortable at this point that they will be fined – my understanding is the fines are in the range of $250 to $500 – that’ll obviously be a … violation of summons that would be provided,” he said.

The mayor opened his Saturday video by praising New Yorkers for their efforts to adhere to the guidelines and for being “extraordinary at social distancing,” adding that city dwellers in the five boroughs are used to close quarters.

“It has taken every fiber of our beings to figure out how to do this because we’re warm, emotional people,” he said. “Thank you everyone who’s done it the right way, but we still know there’s some people who need to get the message. And that means, sometimes, making sure the enforcement is there to educate people.”

‘Petty, Tyrannical Bulls***’: California Is Filling Skateparks With Sand To Enforce ‘Social Distancing,’ Backlash Blows Up Online

Officials in California have resorted to filling skateparks with loads of sand to stop kids from skateboarding during the pandemic — all in the name of public health.

Days ago, a popular skatepark in San Clemente was filled with 37 thousand tons of sand to discourage skaters and “promote social distancing,” Los Angeles CBS reported.

“San Clemente had shut down all its parks and facilities on April 1 under the state’s stay-at-home orders, but skaters ignored signs warning against trespassing at the Ralphs Skate Court, 241 Avenida La Pata,” the report said. “Since park facilities have been closed city officials say they routinely saw people visit the skatepark, even by some children accompanied with their parents, according to the San Clemente Times. City officials told the newspaper they followed in the footsteps of other cities, and filled the skatepark with 37 tons of sand.”

Authorities never notified the nonprofit group that raised money to support the skatepark about the sand dumping.

Officials manning a skatepark in Venice Beach followed suit, again, all in the name of public health.

“By Friday afternoon, the ramps and bowls at the park located at 1800 Ocean Front Walk were buried beneath enough sand to make them unrideable,” KTLA reported. “All parks, beaches, bike paths and trails in Los Angeles County are closed until at least May 15 to support social distancing under the county’s Safer at Home order.”

“At Venice Beach, all parking lots, bathrooms, piers and beach access points are also shuttered, along with the boardwalk and Ocean Front Walk. There is some access in the area to essential businesses,” the report added.

WATCH:

Politicos were quick to sound off on the actions taken by California officials, especially since kids are at a particularly low risk of contracting COVID and it’s possible to social distance while skateboarding.

“Clearly, the greatest public- heath threat imaginable…a kid on a skateboard. Young people, remember, this is what Big-government statist Democrats do—they take away your freedom,” Senator Ted Cruz posted online. “And to all the Lefties defending California’s idiocy, skating alone poses ZERO public health threat to anybody. You want to enforce social distancing in public spaces, fine, but filling a skate park with sand—so nobody can use it—is authoritarian abuse of power.”

Conservative radio host Buck Sexton sounded off, “Some us have been warning about inevitable government overreach and abuse of power all along. Now we have city officials not just shutting down parks- idiotic in itself- but actually going the extra mile to make them unusable for all.”

“This is not about safety from a virus,” he added.

“Yeah, great idea. Obviously we don’t want the kids outside, in the sun, in the fresh air. We want them inside having prolonged indoor contact with their older family members,” wrote The Daily Wire’s Matt Walsh.

“This is some petty, tyrannical bullshit right here,” prominent First Amendment lawyer Harmeet K. Dhillon summed up.

“Supereme Chairman Garcetti of the LA Communist Party has things well in hand,” Justin Hart mocked.

Gun-Controlled Baltimore in 2019: 348 Homicides, 89 Arrests

There were 348 homicides in gun-controlled Baltimore in 2019, for which the police only made 89 arrests.

The Baltimore Sun reports a similar ratio of homicides to arrests or to cases otherwise solved has been roughly this dismal at least as far back as 2015. They report, “From 2015 to 2019, a stunning 1,660 people were killed in Baltimore. Just 654 cases were solved, a five-year clearance rate of less than 40%.”

In other words, on average, only four out of ten Baltimore homicides were solved each year for the years 2015-2019.

Last year witnessed 348 homicides in Baltimore and only 89 arrests. Moreover, just 83 of those arrests resulted in convictions.

The Sun referenced 2014, noting Baltimore “homicide detectives were taking the lead on an average of four new homicide cases per year, and had an average individual clearance rate of 46%.” But in 2015 “they were handling eight new cases each — and their average clearance rate had dropped to 22%.”

Researchers who conducted a report on the Baltimore Police Department’s homicide division in 2016 “found no clear policies and procedures for conducting investigations.”

They also discovered “detectives did not get careful supervision to ensure critical investigative steps were being completed in every case.”

Breitbart News reported 12 individuals were shot in gun-controlled Baltimore on January 11, 2020, alone. Five of those victims died from their wounds.

On March 18, 2020, Breitbart News reported Baltimore Mayor Jack Young (D) begging city residents to quick shooting each other so more hospital beds could be saved for coronavirus victims.

California City Dumps 37 Tons of Sand in Skatepark To Keep Kids Out

How much does it take to enforce government restrictions during the era of the coronavirus?

In San Clemente, California, the answer comes to 37 tons of sand, which the city dumped into Ralph’s Skate Court to keep kids away.

The city said it acted because despite issuing social-distancing guidelines and officially closing all parks on April 1, the skateboard park was still being used.

“On April 1, we kind of let it play out to see if users would abide by the closure,” Samantha Wylie, the recreation manager for the city’s Beaches, Parks and Recreation Department, told the San Clemente Times.

“During that [two-week period], we saw people continue to skate the park, groups would gather, kids with their parents; it became a regular [occurrence]. It appeared the closure was not being abided by.”

TRENDING: Nearly Every National Women’s Group That Condemned Kavanaugh Remains Silent on Biden Allegation

Wylie said the action was simply following a trend set by others.

“The sand was what other agencies were doing. We’re doing what other parks have done to enforce that message of social distancing,” she said.

She claimed that the city’s action was an efficient response.

“We did consider fencing. Fencing is really difficult to get right now, and we know we’ve done fencing at the skatepark before, and it just gets hopped over,” Wylie said.

Do you think this was an overreaction on the part of the government?

“We also considered security, but there’s a cost to that. The sand, it cost us nothing to put it in, [and] it’ll cost us nothing to remove it. So that’s why we went with that decision.”

Stephanie Aguilar, president of the San Clemente Skatepark Coalition, was not happy with the action, which came without the group being consulted, she told The Orange County Register.

The coalition has raised funds in the past to support the park.

“It just seems there could have been better communication, which could have helped with the response to everybody,” Aguilar told the Times.

“There’s a lot of people within our community who have put a lot of time and money, personal money … to the skatepark.”

She also said the action produced a terrible image for the city.

“That visual representation of the city dumping sand into the skatepark, it almost feels like, when you look at it, the city vandalized its own park, and I think it pains people to see it,” Aguilar said.

The city’s action was not well-received on Twitter:

Although Aguilar said she is worried the sand could trap moisture and damage the concrete it is now covering, Wylie said that would not happen, and even if it did, the city could make the repairs.

But Aguilar said the city has shown it has a double standard.

“Social distancing hasn’t been followed in a lot of different areas, whether it’s on our trails, tennis courts, the basketball courts, the walking paths; we didn’t see the city dump sand on the walking trail,” she said.

“We didn’t see them dump sand onto any other sport area that’s being used. It just plays into, kind of feeds into that double standard the skate community has been treated with.”

Sen. Cotton, Rep. Crenshaw Team Up on Bill To ‘Hold the Chinese Government Accountable’

Two Republican legislators are supporting legislation that would allow Americans to fight back against China as the coronavirus causes death and disruption across the U.S.

The ‘‘Holding the Chinese Communist Party Accountable for Infecting Americans Act of 2020’’ was introduced Thursday by Sen. Tom Cotton of Arkansas and Rep. Dan Crenshaw of Texas.

The bill comes against a backdrop of allegations, including from Taiwan, that the Chinese government covered up facts in December, as well as a sudden spike in the number of deaths reported in Wuhan, where the virus first emerged, after China insisted for weeks its statistics were perfect.

The bill’s goal is to allow Americans to sue China for the economic and personal damage cased by the coronavirus, which Cotton’s office termed the “Wuhan Virus” in the news release announcing the legislation.

It does so by amending the Foreign Sovereign Immunities Act to allow suits against China in this particular instance.

TRENDING: Obama AG Eric Holder Giddy About ‘Opportunity’ Coronavirus Presents To Make ‘Permanent’ Changes

The release said the bill “gives the United States a powerful tool to get China to pay for the damage it has caused: If the United States and China come to an agreement to settle the claims, then the private suits could be dismissed.

“In other words, China can take responsibility and agree to pay for the damage it has caused, or it can face potentially millions of claims in federal court.”

The legislation reads like an indictment of China.

“The Communist Party of China covered up the existence and downplayed the seriousness of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), at least as early as December 2019,” it begins. “Chinese Government officials engaged in a campaign to silence and delegitimize doctors, including Dr. Li Wenliang, who were warning their colleagues and others about COVID-19.

Do you support making China pay for the damage done by this disease?

“Chinese Government officials ordered the destruction of laboratory samples and research regarding COVID-19 in January 2020. Chinese Government officials have detained or otherwise silenced researchers, journalists, and citizens who attempted to share information that could have proven unflattering to the response of the Chinese Government to the COVID-19 outbreak.”

The legislation said that the bill is not about secrecy; it is about the consequences of that secrecy.

Academic studies have shown that, had appropriate interventions occurred to stop the spread of COVID-19 even just weeks earlier, the spread of COVID-19 would have been severely curtailed,” it said.

“The cover-up of COVID-19 by the Chinese Government (A) has caused significant death, injury, and economic harm in the United States and around the world; and (B) is, at minimum, grossly negligent behavior causing significant injury.”

The legislators said China has to be held accountable for its actions:

RELATED: Marco Rubio: Coronavirus Outbreak Is China’s Chernobyl

“We need to hold the Chinese government accountable for their malicious lies and coverup that allowed the coronavirus to spread across the world,” Crenshaw said in a statement.

“The communist regime expelled journalists, silenced whistleblowers, and withheld vital information that delayed the global response to the pandemic. Simply put: their actions cost American lives and livelihoods. This bill will help ensure China’s actions are not without consequences.”

“By silencing doctors and journalists who tried to warn the world about the coronavirus, the Chinese Communist Party allowed the virus to spread quickly around the globe. Their decision to cover up the virus led to thousands of needless deaths and untold economic harm. It’s only appropriate that we hold the Chinese government accountable for the damage it has caused,” Cotton added.

China is also facing the wrath of political leaders after a new report suggested that the virus did not emerge from a wet market in Wuhan, as the Chinese government has claimed, but from a lab located in that city.
