Democrats fold; withdraw threat to shut down government to protect Dreamers

After weeks of posturing, Democrats have withdrawn their threats to shut down the government if Republicans do not include deportation relief for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients in a government funding bill.

While House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi  (D-Calif.) had previously vowed that Democrats would not leave town without deportation relief for Dreamers, she began to backtrack late last week and suggest that Democrats were withdrawing their shutdown threat.

“Democrats are not willing to shut government down, no,” Pelosi said.

Other Democrats have also started dialing back their rhetoric on DACA as the Christmas recess looms. Sen.Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) told Politico in an interview, “Obviously, I want a Dreamers fix by the end of the year. I’m not sure that it serves our purposes to draw hard lines in the sand in the middle of negotiations.”

Democrats in the Senate have the power to block a funding resolution with a filibuster because Republicans have used the budgetary reconciliation measure in order to pass the tax reform bill that is currently at the top of President Donald Trump’s legislative agenda. Under Senate rules, reconciliation can only be used once per year.

Negotiations over a continuing resolution to fund the government have reached a fevered pitch as lawmakers attempt to reach a long-term solution before the current funding resolution runs out on Dec. 22.

Republicans and Democrats have agreed to two last-minute temporary funding resolutions that preserve the status quo thus far in the negotiation process, but both sides seem anxious to find a longer term solution and avoid the looming threat of government shutdown while heading into an election year.

Accordingly, Democrats are softening demands on a DACA fix, which is widely viewed as a poison pill, and focusing on a broader range of priorities, including funding for the Children’s Health Insurance Program.

Republicans, for their part, want funding for increased border security measures included in any resolution that continues to fund the government.

In September, the Trump administration announced that it would end the DACA, program created by former President Barack Obama. The DACA program allows young immigrants living in the country illegally who were brought here as children to remain in the U.S. It does not give them legal status but provides temporary protection from deportation and permits them to work legally.

Most of the movements in the ground under our feet aren’t dramatic enough for people to feel them. Earthquakes, of course, are the big exception, but Earth undergoes far more earthquakes globally than you might suspect — an estimated 500,000 per year, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). Of those, 100,000 are strong enough to be felt, and about 100 of those are powerful enough to cause damage.

But even in the quiet periods between earthquakes, there’s a whole lot of shaking going on.

He intervenes in couple’s fight—and gets tossed off four-story bridge into icy river for his trouble

Police said three people were arrested and face charges in connection to an incident in which a man was tossed off a Connecticut bridge Thanksgiving morning, WFSB-TV reported.

What went down?

  • Shelton police said 25-year-old Gregory Rottjer was arguing with his girlfriend, 22-year-old Jennifer Hannum, as the pair were walking across the Shelton/Derby Bridge, WFSB reported.

  • Just after 1 a.m., the victim and his brother checked on Hannum’s welfare — and the victim told Rottjer to “chill out,” police told the station.
  • Cellphone video shows Rottjer going after the victim who was backing up with his hands in the air, police told WFSB.

  • “He got involved telling him to leave her alone…stated the man became aggressive toward him and they began to fight,” court documents noted, the station said.
  • Rottjer and his friend, Dorso, started a fight with the victim and the victim’s brother, police told WFSB.
  • Then Rottjer threw the victim over the bridge, police told the station.
  • The victim fell 45 feet — about four stories down, the station said — and police found him on his back in what WFSB described as “icy water.”
  • Police, firefighters and EMS workers rescued the victim who continues to recover from injuries, the station said.
  • Rottjer, Dorso and Hannum fled the scene, police told WFSB, adding that during the trio’s meeting the next day Dorso said he wouldn’t tell a soul about the incident.

So how did police catch the suspects?

  • Investigators found a cellphone that morning belonging to Hannum, the station said.
  • When police turned on the phone, they told WFSB there was a text message that stated, “Hi I am the owner of this iPhone, please call me to be returned.”

  • Police then traced the phone to Rottjer, the station said, adding that photos on the phone as well as cellphone clips of the fight and surveillance video matched.

What did Rottjer allegedly tell police?

  • “I did it,” Rottjer allegedly said during his interview with police, WFSB reported. “I threw him over the bridge.”
  • Rottjer told police he started drinking at 4:30 that afternoon and was drunk by the end of the night, the station said, citing the arrest warrant.
  • Rottjer also said he felt the victim disrespected his girlfriend, which led to the fight, WFSB reported.
  • Hannum lied to detectives about the incident, police told the station, adding that she told authorities the morning of the incident she didn’t know anything about someone being thrown off the bridge.

What charges are the suspects facing?

  • Rottjer was charged with criminal attempt at murder, first-degree assault and first-degree reckless endangerment, WFSB reported, adding that he’s being held on a $250,000 bond.
  • Dorso was charged with third-degree assault and released on a promise to appear in court, the station said.

NO CHANCES: Congregation Takes Active Shooter Training

A Christian congregation in New Jersey is taking no chances.

In the aftermath of Sutherland Springs, Texas, where a shooter opened fire on worshipping Christians, murdering 26 people and becoming one of the worst mass shootings in a house of worship, Bethel Church in Blackwood is now hosting seminars to educate their congregants on what to do in case of a similar scenario.

“I think that perhaps churches were something that people felt safe in and they should,” said Gloucester Township Chief of Police Harry Earle. “I think with some of the events that have happened it’s made them feel a little bit vulnerable.”

Christian pastors even traveled from out of state to attend the seminar. Pastor Joyce Warrington of Dover, Delaware, said she owed it to her congregation.

“I am very encouraged because the tools they are giving us, I can take that back home to my chief of police and I want him to start a program in our city,” she said.

The main lesson taught in the seminar, endorsed by police, is the “Run, Hide, Fight” principle. Here’s how CBS News summarized it:

Law Enforcement advised that if a deadly situation unfolds, first RUN if you can:

– Don’t let the indecision of others slow you down.

– Run away in a zig-zag pattern in order to cut down on a shooter’s accuracy.

– Once outside and safe, warn others nearby of the danger.

– Call police and be descriptive.

If you can’t run, HIDE:

– Act quickly and quietly.

– Silence your phone.

– Lock doors if able.

– Make a barricade out of furniture.

As a last resort, FIGHT:

– Act with aggression.

– Throw things at the gunman and yell.

– Improvise weapons such as scissors or a fire extinguisher.

– Commit to taking down the shooter no matter what.

– Choose to survive.

Other congregations across the country have taken similar steps to secure their followers’ safety. Fox News reported just last week of an Indiana congregation: “We’ve got to be prepared for every situation,” Ben Smith, an assistant pastor at the church and the event’s organizer, told FOX59. “We don’t know what’s going to happen.”

Why Moore’s loss is a bad sign for Trump in 2020

Obviously, the Democrat pollsters were right about their projected win of Doug Jones over Roy Moore.  The relentless attacks by self-righteous Democrats and their willing accomplices in the liberal drive-by media to paint Roy Moore as an immoral pedophile worked like a charm.  Regardless of the facts concerning any of Moore’s accusers’ stories, the constant drumbeat of sexual assault by Roy Moore seemed to be enough to wear down many of his supporters while energizing the opposition against him.


What’s even more significant for the Democrats is that Doug Jones won in a highly red state that Donald Trump won by well over twenty points.  This is huge for the Democrats moving forward to the next presidential election and will play the biggest part in their strategy to defeat President Trump.



So it’s no coincidence that President Trump’s sexual assault accusers re-emerged just days before the Alabama Senate election. And it’s no coincidence that many Democrats came out and demanded that President Trump resign.  The battle for the presidency in 2020 for the Democrats has begun.


The strategy to defeat President Trump in 2020 will be exactly what defeated Roy Moore last night.  Democrats and their willing accomplices in the liberal drive-by media will continue to paint President Trump as a serial sexual abuser from now until election night in November 2020.  You can bet there will be many more women coming out soon with allegations against President Trump, and regardless of the facts of any of their stories, they will be given constant exposure by the liberal media outlets and the full support of every Democrat in office.


Because this strategy is really all the Democrats have, they will be relentless and do whatever it takes to pull it off – even if it means sacrificing more of their own along the way.  Their ace in the hole is the drive-by media – which they know will be all in on this strategy.


Democrats know that this strategy has a good chance to work because after a couple of years, the American people will be so tired of the constant attacks against President Trump that enough of them will just want it to stop.  And the only way to get it to stop will be to get rid of President Trump.  Unfortunately for conservatives, the 2020 presidential election will play out in America just as it did in Alabama.


I saw firsthand the same strategy work in my home state of North Carolina against a moderate Republican governor.  While it wasn’t sexual misconduct allegations against Gov. Pat McCrory, there was a constant barrage of negative and mostly false political allegations that were espoused at a weekly liberal gathering in Raleigh called “Moral Mondays.”  Those gatherings were covered every week like the Second Coming and were reported religiously by every liberal media outlet.  By the end of McCrory’s first term, people were so sick of the partisan bickering that they wanted it to stop.  It worked, and McCrory was narrowly defeated – and Trump even won N.C.


Not to take any credit, but I wrote a piece on September 7, 2012 on this blog during the Democratic Convention predicting a Hillary Clinton presidential run.  I got lots of comments saying I was essentially out of my mind.  Mark my words: this strategy against Trump is what is going to happen – and it will probably work.

NFL Team Hit With Lawsuit, Courtesy of Flag-Loving Americans

Fed up with the NFL’s ongoing national anthem protests, one fan has attempted to strike back by filing a suit against the New Orleans Saints in the hopes of recouping the thousands of dollars he spent on season tickets to the team’s games.

Louisiana resident Lee Dragna filed a suit in a district court Monday “seeking a refund for the tickets as well as attorney’s fees, claiming the protest by some players against police brutality and racial injustice has prevented him and his family from enjoying the games,” reported the The New Orleans Advocate.

Despite spending $8,000 on season tickets, Dragna hasn’t attended a game since the Saints’ first home game of the season on Sept. 17, when some players on the team avoided honoring the national anthem by remaining in the locker room as it played, according to the Advocate.

“Apparently, these players were following the lead of (former San Francisco 49ers quarterback) Colin Kaepernick by disrespecting the flag, the anthem, the USA and those who have served and are serving the USA in our military,” Dragna’s suit states, according to the Advocate.

When the absent players finally walked out onto the field, Dragna’s family watched in horror as furious fans “booed and cursed at the Saints players.”

He noted in a statement to the Advocate that this behavior was “borderline dangerous,” though he laid the blame for it squarely on the shoulders of the Saints.

“The Saints created that behavior by condoning it,” he said. “It’s my thought pattern that (players) should not be allowed (to protest). If you sell tickets to a gaming event for entertainment, you should not be allowed to turn it political.”

Besides creating a hostile environment, the team’s protests have also cultivated the impression that it’s OK to act like a disrespectful punk, Dragna argued.

“I don’t want my kids growing up thinking that those are their heroes … and it’s OK to do that stuff, especially on TV and especially on your job site,” he said. “That can’t be allowed to happen.”

While $8,000 is admittedly a very small price to pay for a team worth countless millions, when Dragna simply asked the Saints for the refund, they rebuffed him.

“They don’t even want to talk about this,” he said. “But I don’t care. One way or another, they’ll pay.”

The Saints have declined to comment about Dragna’s suit, according to the Advocate, though an insider source told ESPN that the team is “taking this very seriously,” and said “this fan best have his facts in order.”

“The Saints will come back at this fan who has brought forth incorrect information in his statement with everything to defend the team, organization and players,” the source added.

Saints running back Mark Ingram likewise posted a snarky tweet Tuesday denying Dragna’s claims but wishing him “good luck.”

For a man worth millions, Ingram could easily resolve this himself by paying Dragna the $8,000 out of his own pockets.

As of Wednesday, however, it appeared neither the team nor its players, including Ingram, had any intention of resolving this mess the easy way.

The American economy is operating at its full potential for the first time in a decade, thanks to the rise in economic output since President Donald Trump’s election.

Stronger economic growth in the second and third quarters of 2017, when the economy grew by more than a three percent annualized rate, pushed economic output higher than what the Congressional Budget Office refers to as “potential gross domestic product.”

In the chart below, the blue line represents the potential output of the economy–basically, what the economy could produce at a high level of investment and employment. The red line represents actual economic output. The space between the lines is the “output gap”–the goods and services we could have been producing but were not:

Note that potential GDP is not a ceiling. The economy ran above potential from 1964 to 1969 and for briefer periods more recently. And this rise to capacity could be short-lived, particularly if political events conspire to stymie the president’s agenda.

Trey Gowdy GOES OFF on Rosenstein About DOJ, FBI Corruption and Conflicts of Interest in Epic 6 MINUTE Rant (VIDEO)

Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee Bob Goodlatte called for the hearing after recent media reports revealed the political motives of Special Counsel Mueller’s staff.

Trey Gowdy (SC) went off on Rosenstein in an epic 6 minute tirade about the conflicts of interest and corruption in the DOJ and FBI.

Trey Gowdy pointed out the very reason for a Special Counsel is to avoid conflicts of interest then continues to outline all of the corruption and conflicts of interest with the associates in the Mueller investigation.

Gowdy brought up the demoted DOJ official Ohr and his wife who worked for Fusion GPS.

Rep. Gowdy then went off on Trump-hating FBI agent Strzok and read some of the text messages he sent his FBI lawyer mistress Lisa Page.

“This ‘conflict of interest-free’ senior agent of the FBI can’t think of a single solitary American who would vote for Donald Trump!” Gowdy said.

“These are the people who we were told we needed for a ‘conflict of interest free’ investigation?” Gowdy asked.

On Wednesday, Deputy AG Rod Rosenstein said there was no good cause to fire Mueller from the highly partisan witch hunt against Donald Trump.

Report: Lawyer Caught Offering Woman $200,000 to Accuse Trump of Sex Assault

Two months ago former Fox News host Bill O’Reilly revealed the existence of a tape that he claims shows what he described as “an anti-Trump attorney” offering a woman $200,000 during the presidential election last year to issue false sexual harassment claims against then-GOP nominee Donald Trump.

“It exists,” he said to Newsmax at the time. “We have urged the person who has the tape to hand it over to the U.S. attorney, because my investigative team believes there are three separate crimes on the audio tape.”

On Friday, O’Reilly doubled down on that claim during an interview with conservative talk show host Glenn Beck, though he declined to offer a deadline for when the tape might finally be released.

“There is an audiotape of an anti-Trump person offering $200,000 to a woman to accuse Donald Trump of untoward behavior,” he said.

When Beck asked whether this tape will ever be released, O’Reilly replied by maintaining that he “may have to go to the U.S. attorney” himself.

“I don’t want to have to do that and inject myself into the story … but I had my lawyer listen to the tape,” O’Reilly said. “There are at least three crimes on the tape. So as a citizen, I may have to do this.”

He cautioned, though, that the tape isn’t in his possession but rather with “someone who knows the seriousness of this situation.”

Then, Beck asked, why won’t this mysterious someone simply release the tape to the public?

“I can’t really get into that at this point, but I can tell you, Donald Trump knows about the tape,” O’Reilly said. “And I, for the life of me, am sitting here going, ‘Why on Earth are you allowing a movement to try to smear you when you have such a powerful piece of evidence that shows this is an industry — that there are false charges and money changing hands?’”

But Trump doesn’t “have such a powerful piece of evidence” at his disposal; the actual owner of the tape does, and until he or she chooses to release the tape, there might not be much the president can do about it.

Keep in mind that the former Fox News host first mentioned this tape two months earlier, and yet it still remains unpublished.

My honest recommendation to O’Reilly would be to try his hardest to obtain a copy of the tape and then simply distribute the copy to conservative media.

The fact is that talk is cheap, and allegations come easy. It’s only surefire, indisputable evidence that’ll make any difference against the left’s ongoing war on our president.

US Navy Just Destroyed West Point Commie in the Best Way Possible

The annual Army-Navy football game was held in Philadelphia on Saturday, and while there is always some good-natured ribbing between the rival service academies, this year it seemed a bit more pointed than usual.

It would appear that the U.S. Navy’s midshipmen hadn’t forgotten about the pictures that circulated online a few months back which featured a graduate of the West Point Military Academy — Army 2nd Lt. Spenser Rapone — wearing a Che Guevara shirt under his uniform and a note inside his cap that read “Communism will win.”

According to The Daily Caller, some of the midshipmen hung a banner which boldly declared “Not Communists,” and one individual was spotted holding up a sign that read “Communism won’t win.”

As if that wasn’t enough, it was reported that whenever the Army cadets would attempt to get a chant started, the midshipmen would respond by repeatedly yelling “Communists!” at them.

Newsmax reported that Rapone had not only posted the pictures of himself online, but had also made disparaging remarks about Defense Secretary James Mattis, among other top officials, and had declared himself a member of the Democratic Socialists of America political party.

The social media activity by Rapone has led many to believe that he stands in violation of the Uniform Code of Military Justice, specifically Article 88.

That article reads that “any commissioned officer who uses contemptuous words against the president, the vice president, Congress, the secretary of defense, the secretary of a military department, the secretary of transportation, or the governor or legislature of any state, territory, commonwealth, or possession in which he is on duty or present shall be punished as a court-martial may direct.”

Many people, including Republican Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, have called for Rapone to be decommissioned from the military, and furthermore be compelled to reimburse taxpayers for his tuition and other expenses at the military academy.

It remains unclear at this time what, if any, sort of punishment Rapone — who graduated from West Point in May 2016 — has received for the behavior that riled up so many Americans who despise communism.

According to the Army Times, an official statement from West Point in September said, “Second Lieutenant Rapone‘s actions in no way reflect the values of the U.S. Military Academy or the U.S. Army.”

It was further reported that Rapone had been assigned to the U.S. Army’s 10th Mountain Division, and though the division supports freedom of speech — indeed, its members have fought and bled and died to defend it over the years — its command structure nevertheless noted that it was against regulations for service members to make political statements while in uniform.

“The 10th Mountain Division not only supports free speech, it trains every day to ensure our nation has the ability to protect it at all cost,” stated Lt. Col. Tonya Stokes, according to Army Times. “That being said, when our soldiers are in uniform, politics must be set aside. Our uniform represents every corner of our nation and it cannot be used to promote any single ideology.

The Army and Navy are well-known for giving each other a hard time whenever their annual rivalry game comes around, but this year, the Navy wins first prize for hilariously trolling their brothers-in-arms … even if they did ultimately lose the game to Army by one point, 14-13.
