After his failed presidential bid in 2008, Arizona Sen. John McCain has been the source of criticism among conservatives for his willingness to buck the Republican agenda on just about every political topic.

So, when McCain asked for 74 more followers on Twitter this week, it was an opportune moment for conservatives to really let him know how they felt.

And it must have been a rude awakening.

At the time he wrote the tweet, the senator had 2,999,926 followers. With 74 more followers, he would make an even 3 million.

However, in a bizarre turn of events, followers began to abandon McCain en masse. In fact, as of Tuesday afternoon, over 17,000 followers had left him. At one point, The Daily Wire reports that McCain was even down over 22,000 followers.

Moreover, the way his followers have responded to the tweet sheds even more light as to why they left. Apparently, many former followers just don’t like him.

While the media absolutely loves McCain for his willingness to go against the Republican party, his flip flops — particularly saving Obamacare twice — have been disastrous for the country. When given the choice to repeal the individual mandate, which he campaigned on, he voted against it.

McCain should have been un-followed a long time ago — not by Twitter users, but by his constituents. McCain has gone against President Donald Trump in almost every aspect, even the “America First” agenda. He has been a thorn in the side of conservatives for quite some time now.

In order to have followers, you have to lead, Senator. The American people want leaders who will fight for them and not cave to the liberal media’s agenda.

It is just about the point of the year when Time magazine releases its annual “Person of the Year” issue to highlight the individual or group of people who have had the most influence on the news cycle throughout 2017.

Though leftists didn’t like it, few could argue against then-President-elect Donald Trump being named “Person of the Year” in 2016, and word was that the president was in the running for the honor once again this year.

Trump alluded to as much in a tweet over the Thanksgiving holiday — and essentially turned it down, which prompted Time to dispute Trump’s version of events.

Whatever the procedural differences might have been, The Daily Caller just reported that the “shortlist” released by Time of its 10 finalists for the honor does indeed include Trump … along with six or seven other finalists who arguably are Trump’s anti-theses.

Time Magazine called to say that I was PROBABLY going to be named “Man (Person) of the Year,” like last year, but I would have to agree to an interview and a major photo shoot. I said probably is no good and took a pass. Thanks anyway!

First, the non-individual, group of people finalists for Time‘s award — two groups held up by the left, and whose members most likely aren’t big fans of the president.

The first group is the Dreamers, adults who were brought to this country illegally as children immigrants who were unconstitutionally offered special protections against deportation by former President Barack Obama. Trump has rescinded that special protection and placed the matter squarely before Congress to figure out what to do with them (where the questions should have been all along).

The second group that made Time’s shortlist is the women who make up the #MeToo campaign, a social media movement of women speaking up about their past experiences regarding sexual harassment, abuse and assault, particularly at the hands of powerful figures in Hollywood, the media and politics.

Considering virtually all of the #MeToo targets have been liberal giants, this group shouldn’t necessarily be anti-Trump, but they’re feminists, so the truth makes no difference to them.

Now for the individuals on the list, most of whom are rivals, if not outright enemies of President Trump.

Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, owner of virulent anti-Trump rag The Washington Post and one of the few men on the planet who can challenge Bill Gates for the title of “richest man in the world,” tops the list.

He is followed by ex-NFL quarterback and social justice warrior Colin Kaepernick, who started the anti-American national anthem kneeling protests that came to a head in 2017 when Trump expressed the disapproval at the gesture that was already shared by millions of Americans.

Also on the list is special counsel Robert Mueller, who for months has headed up an investigation into supposed Russian interference and collusion with the Trump campaign in the 2016 election.

A certain enemy of Trump’s — North Korean communist dictator Kim Jong Un — also made the list, due to his grabbing of the headlines all year through multiple tests of ballistic missiles and nuclear warheads, not to mention the back-and-forth rhetoric traded with the president.

Interestingly, for all of their virtue-signaling to the left and talk of gender equality, only one individual woman made Time’s list — Hollywood director Patty Jenkins, who oversaw the making of the hit film “Wonder Woman” and became the first female director to top $100 million at the box office on a film’s opening weekend.

That leaves only two individuals on the list who might not be as public in their opposition to to Trump, but are definitely on the side of rivals.

Chinese President Xi Jinping, who recently cemented his rule over the country’s communist party for at least another five years, has cooperated with Trump in some areas, but the two are no doubt butting heads when it comes to trade, North Korea and Chinese military expansion in the South China Sea, among countless other issues.

The last entry on the shortlist of finalists is Saudi Arabian Crown Prince (soon to be King) Mohammed bin Salman, who has simultaneously cracked down on corruption among his country’s elite while quietly leading reforms in the Muslim nation that many Westerners never expected to see happen in their lifetimes, if ever.

We will await the final announcement of who Time will declare “Person of the Year,” but we won’t hold our breath expecting it to be Trump again, even as there is no question that he has, just like last year, seized the headlines on a daily basis and driven the news of the day, every day, for better or for worse.

If the past year and a half in politics has taught us anything, it is that many people, some in high places, are corrupt.

We are also learning that many organizations that were once thought to remain apolitical are apparently deeply rooted in politics — and crooked to boot.

Take, for instance, the FBI and the case of Peter Strzok, an FBI agent who was removed from special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation for have a demonstrable bias against President Donald Trump.

Strzok was found to be having an affair with Lisa Page, an FBI lawyer who worked for Deputy FBI Director Andrew McCabe, a man with deep Democrat Party ties of his own.

After it was learned that Strzok had exchanged anti-Trump texts with Page, Strzok was demoted to push papers in the FBI’s human resources department — a fine job for a human resources professional, no doubt, but “Siberia” for a trained agent, as a CNN contributor put it defending Strzok’s alleged professionalism and objectivity.

Yet, according to The Daily Caller, Strzok was also deeply involved with the bureau’s investigation of Hillary Clinton’s personal email server. He personally interviewed close Clinton aides Huma Abedin and Cheryl Mills, both of whom said — laughably — that they were not aware that Clinton had a private email server until after Clinton left the State Department.

As The Daily Caller pointed out, emails released from 2010 and 2011 showed Abedin and Mills clearly discussing the server before Clinton left the State Department.

So, we have three individuals known to have lied when speaking to Special Agent Strzok or his comrades, and yet only Flynn faces charges.

There is no doubt that two of Clinton’s top aides getting busted for lying to the FBI would have had undesirable effects on the campaign, but no matter how you spin it, this double standard is not fair.

Naturally, this revelation about Abedin and Mills getting a free pass raises questions about the credibility of both the  FBI and Mueller’s team.

Interestingly, CNN reported on Monday that Strzok was the agent responsible for softening the language that former FBI Director James Comey used when he closed the Clinton investigation.

Strzok edited a draft of Comey’s speech and changed the phrase “grossly negligent” to “extremely careless.” Of course “extremely careless” carries less legal weight than “grossly negligent.”

That single change might have kept Clinton out of a prison cell.

Additionally, Abedin and Mills may have ended up behind bars if Strzok had not changed the language in Comey’s recommendation.

At this point, it would seem apparent to anyone with good eyes and a sufficient command of the English language that Mueller’s “investigation” is a partisan operation.

Trump has repeatedly claimed that the FBI is corrupt, and the more we learn about the organization, the more it looks like he might be right.

The public deserves better from a special investigation bent on finding evidence that could impeach the president.

It deserves honesty — and it deserves the truth.

There is finally evidence that Russia “colluded” in order to give their side an advantage — but the news has nothing to do with the last election.

Instead, it has everything to do with the next Olympics. The International Olympic Committee has just announced that Russia will be completely banned from the 2018 Winter Games, which are set to take place in South Korea.

The bombshell ruling came after an investigation showed that a state-run doping program used banned substances such as steroids to boost the performance of athletes.

It appears that this method of cheating was built into the official Russian team as an active government plan, making it far more serious than if a handful of athletes had been individually doping.

“The scheme was rivaled perhaps only by the notorious program conducted by East Germany throughout the 1960s, ’70s and ’80s,” reported The New York Times on Tuesday.

For lack of a better term, all references to Russia at the upcoming Olympic Games will be essentially erased.

“The country’s government officials are forbidden to attend, its flag will not be displayed at the opening ceremony and its anthem will not sound,” explained the Times.

Several athletes from Russia may still be allowed to compete, but they will be doing so as individuals, not as part of any official national team. That means that they will be forced to wear a neutral uniform, and any medals won by these competitors will not count as Russian wins in the record books.

It is likely that only Russian athletes who have a past history of submitting to rigorous drug testing will be permitted at the games, and decisions on which competitors are allowed will be made on a case by case basis by the IOC.

A key factor in the decision to exclude Russia was that investigators uncovered a complex scheme used to bypass anti-doping testing during the 2014 games. The location of that competition in Sochi, Russia made it easier for the government-backed team to cheat.

“In an elaborate overnight operation at the 2014 Sochi Games, a team assembled by Russia’s sports ministry tampered with more than 100 urine samples to conceal evidence of top athletes’ steroid use throughout the course of competition,” reported The New York Times.

“More than two dozen Russian athletes have been disqualified from the Sochi standings as a result, and Olympic officials are still sorting through the tainted results and rescinding medals.”

Russia is currently in second place for total Olympic medals won throughout history. If both Soviet and post-Soviet medals are counted, the country has won 1,744 bronze, silver, and gold medals since the games began. The U.S.A. has won 2,804.

However, Russia is number one when it comes to cheating in the prestigious games.

According to Radio Free Europe, Russia has by far the highest number of banned athletes, with 71 competitors excluded from the games before this latest announcement. Only 16 Americans have ever been banned.

The Olympic games are supposed to be a place of international goodwill and sportsmanship, where political and cultural disagreements are set aside for an even playing field and a fair contest.

Russia’s cheating has tainted that goodwill, and it may have an impact beyond the 2018 games.

Rep. John Conyers (D-MI) said on Tuesday that he’s retiring “today” and thanked those who have supported him in the wake of allegations by several women who claimed he made unwelcome sexual advances.

Conyers has denied any wrongdoing, despite reports that one former staffer was paid a $27,000 settlement for charges of sexual harassment in 2015.

“I am retiring today,” Conyers said. “And I want everyone to know how much I appreciate the support that…incredible, undiminished support I’ve received across the years of my supporters, not only in my district but across the country as well.”

The New York Post reported:

Conyers made the announcement Tuesday morning from a Detroit hospital during a phone interview on “The Mildred Gaddis Show” on 102.7 FM, in which he said the accusations against him will “absolutely not” affect his legacy.

“My legacy can’t be compromised or diminished in any way by what we’re going through now,” Conyers said. “This too shall pass. My legacy will continue through my children.”

Conyers, 88, has been hospitalized in recent days for what his staff has said is stress-related health issues.

In the radio interview Conyers endorsed his son, John Conyers III, to replace him, CNN reported.

Conyers’ great-nephew, 29-year old Michigan state Senator Ian Conyers, told CBS News’ Jonathan Blakely he would also be running for the elder Conyers’ seat in a special election that will be ordered by the Michigan governor.

Last month Conyers announced he was stepping down from his ranking member seat on the House Judiciary Committee.

“After careful consideration and in light of the attention drawn by recent allegations made against me, I have notified the Democratic Leader of my request to step aside as ranking member of the House Judiciary Committee during the investigation of these matters,” Conyers said.

Conyers is the longest-serving member in the House.
