FAKE NEWS: ABC News Forced To Issue ANOTHER ‘Correction’ For Trump-Russia Reporting

Just days after having to issue an embarrassing retraction, ABC News had to issue another correction for a report relating to the Trump-Russia investigation by special counsel Robert Mueller.

ABC News reported on Monday that Mueller’s team claimed that Paul Manafort worked with a Russian intel official as recently as last week – a claim that was not accurate, as the correction noted that the person was a “Russian intelligence-connected individual.” The difference could be significant – although a stupid move by Manafort either way – because a “Russian intel official” is a government official while a “Russian intelligence-connected individual” might not be.

According to ABC News, Mueller’s team said, ““Manafort worked on the draft with a long-time Russian colleague of Manafort’s, who is currently based in Russia and assessed to have ties to a Russian intelligence service.”

This is the second embarrassing correction ABC News has had to make in just the last few days.

On Friday, ABC News’ Brian Ross falsely reported that former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn was prepared to testify that then-candidate Donald Trump instructed him to reach out to government officials – an announcement that sent the stock market tumbling by 350-points.

However, after waiting the entire day, ABC News eventually corrected their mistake as Ross admitted that the information regarding Flynn was not correct. In reality, Flynn is set to testify that president-elect Donald Trump instructed him to reach out to the Russian ambassador – a move that the Obama State Department said was normal and was not inappropriate.

ABC News announced on Saturday that they were suspending Ross for four weeks without pay for the incident after the network experienced a significant amount of embarrassment for its lousy reporting.

Puerto Rico Governor Ricardo Rossello Nevares asked federal taxpayers to pay $94 billion towards the island’s recovery from Hurricane Maria, then reportedly spent $100 million on Christmas bonuses for the territory’s government employees.

The governor’s aides argue that the bonuses had been part of the budget approved last summer and that they are a longstanding tradition allowed under the law, the Washington Times reports.

Rossello requested the $94 billion federal aid package in November, estimating that $31 billion of the funds would go toward rebuilding homes and $18 billion would go toward repairing electric utilities.

The budget, however, had been approved before Hurricanes Irma and Maria devastated Puerto Rico, leaving the U.S. territory begging for federal aid.

Puerto Rico’s financial oversight board, established by Congress in 2016 to bail the territory out of defaulting on its debt, called the bonuses “imprudent” and said the governor should rethink his allocation of government funds in light of the recent hurricanes.

“Puerto Rico has demonstrated time and time again that its government is incapable of responsibly handling its finances. This is yet another such instance,” Rep. Tom McClintock (R-CA), a member of the House committee with oversight over Puerto Rico, told the Washington Times in a statement after the bonuses had been revealed.

ABC News colludes with Hillary’s pet narrative, embarrassment ensues

When I saw an ABC News report early Friday about “candidate” Trump supposedly ordering Michael Flynn to contact Russia before the election, I said to myself “it’s Brian Ross — wait for the real story to come out.” And sure enough:

ABC News issued a correction Friday on a report published earlier in the day that stated former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn was instructed by President Trump to contact Russians while Trump was still a candidate.

Instead, the “clarification” noted that Trump’s request came after the election – a significant detail as Trump would have been transitioning from campaign mode to preparing for the start of his administration.

“Significant detail” indeed. How’s this for a “clarification”?

Clarification: During a live Special Report, ABC News reported that a confidant of Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn said Flynn was prepared to testify that then-candidate Donald Trump instructed him to contact Russian officials during the campaign. That source later clarified that during the campaign, Trump assigned Flynn and a small circle of other senior advisers to find ways to repair relations with Russia and other hot spots. It was shortly after the election, that President-elect Trump directed Flynn to contact Russian officials on topics that included working jointly against ISIS.

The original Brian Ross report pushing the “collusion” angle really implodes when it’s discovered that if Trump had Flynn contact Russia, it was after the election. It’s kind of difficult to “collude” with Russia to win an election after the election has taken place, but this is ABC News we’re talking about, and they’ve got a narrative to push.

I’m still laughing at the “clarification” part. They spelled “retraction” wrong:

Chicago Daily Tribune, 1948: “Clarification: Yesterday we reported ‘Dewey Defeats Truman.’ It was actually the other way around. We stand by the other details in our report.”

Trump really has driven the media into the toilet.

Also, sometimes “fake news” comes at a literal price for some:

The initial report caused the Dow to initially plunge by some 350 points.

Way to go, ABC News! Next they’ll probably feature the drop in a report about why Trump’s bad for the market.

It’s Time For Left-Wing Grad Students To Pay Their Fair Share Of Taxes

We are the 99%. More precisely, I’m a member of the 99.4% of Americans not currently enrolled in graduate school, which means that the government taxes my income. Graduate students, many of whom supported the Occupy Wall Street protests which insisted that wage-earners who already surrendered 39.6% of their annual income to the federal government while half of the country paid nothing weren’t contributing their “fair share,” pay virtually no income tax. It’s time for left-wing graduate students to put their money where their mouths are and pay their fair share.

While universities pay graduate students on average a stipend of around $25,000 each academic year to assist in teaching classes, assisting in research, or grading assignments, the majority of graduate student income comes in the form of tuition credits worth upwards of $30,000 or more. A loophole in the tax code allows students to ignore tuition credits and therefore the majority of their income when calculating their tax liability. The median household income in the United States is $59,000—around the same amount as the effective graduate student income. Under the current tax regime, the government confiscates the wealth of that American, who works in the productive economy for an average of 47 hours per week to support his family, to fund the activism of adult Gender and Sexuality Studies students.

Increasing political activism and academic frivolity has eroded campus life since the 1960s. University of Chicago philosopher Allan Bloom described the crisis of higher education in his classic 1987 work, The Closing of the American Mind: How Higher Education Has Failed Democracy and Impoverished the Souls of Today’s Students, and the campus has only furthered decayed in the intervening decades. Pre-eminent literary critic and Yale professor Harold Bloom assailed politicized pseudo-disciplines of the “Such-And-Such Studies” variety as the School of Resentment, which he observed threatens the not only academic rigor but liberal education itself. Harold need look for proof no further than his own campus, where this past spring a group of graduate students squandered weeks of potential scholarship by engaging in a “symbolic” hunger strike that entailed eating when hungry to agitate for the right to unionize not by school, which absurdly they already possessed, but more specifically by academic department.

Ironically, as academic standards have declined, university costs have risen dramatically. According to a U.S. News survey, average tuition and fees at national universities have increased by 157-237% over the last two decades, largely due to incentives, subsidies, and student loans guaranteed by the federal government. Universities have also hired a spate of pointless bureaucrats such as deans, associate deans, and assistant deans to regulate euphemistic drivel like “diversity” and “inclusion.”

Despite the high price tag of both graduate and undergraduate education, 90% of Millennial high school graduates attend college, up from just 59.9% in 1990. Coincidentally, despite the massive jump in university enrollment, only 59.6% will graduate within six years, in keeping with historical averages. For those who do make it through their baccalaureate and to pursue a doctorate, dismal job prospects frequently leave them unemployed and drowning in debt with their career-defining twenties in the rearview mirror and little to show for it.

The irony that left-of-Lenin graduate students who regularly agitate for higher taxation now fume that they may have to pay taxes themselves is irresistibly delightful. On Wednesday, grad students across the country staged a “walkout” to protest the proposed tax reform plan, apparently unaware that “walkouts” only work if the protesters provide a service that will be missed if they cease to perform it. But schadenfreude aside, the GOP proposal stands to benefit graduate students by correcting a broken system of perverse incentives that leaves 91.75% of doctorate recipients without a tenure track job after graduation.

If the tax reform plan passes into law, universities will doubtless alter their accounting to maintain the regular flow of lucrative customers. After all, somebody has to teach, grade, and conduct research for pitiful wages while tenured professors write books. But the reform will go a long way toward keeping everybody honest—an indispensable foundation for academic inquiry.

Michael Flynn, former National Security Adviser to President Trump, pleaded guilty Friday to making false statements to the FBI about contacting Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak during the transition. Flynn’s decision to make false statements to the FBI is leaving many wondering, if the phone calls were sanctioned by the Obama administration and cleared of wrongdoing by Comey’s FBI, why didn’t the former military man just tell the truth?

Perhaps we may have the answer. 

As The Gateway Pundit previously reported, Special Counsel Robert Mueller called on the Trump administration to hand over documents in relation to retired Lt. Gen Michael T. Flynn back in August. Mueller demanded the documents in order to investigate potential secret payments to Flynn by the Turkish government.

According to reports, former CIA Chief James Woolsey briefed law enforcement agents working with the Special Counsel on matters relating to General Michael Flynn’s plan to “removal of a Turkish cleric,” from the U.S. “Flynn. the former national security adviser, was paid more than $500,000 in 2016 for lobbying that benefited the Turkish government,” reported NBC News.

NBC News reports:

Former CIA Director James Woolsey has been interviewed by FBI agents working for Special Counsel Robert Mueller about allegations that Mike Flynn discussed the potentially illegal removal of a Turkish cleric from the U.S., Woolsey’s spokesman told NBC News.

“Ambassador Woolsey and his wife have been in communication with the FBI regarding the Sept. 19, 2016 meeting Ambassador Woolsey was invited to attend by one of Gen. Flynn’s business partners,” Woolsey spokesman Jonathan Franks said in a statement. “Ambassador Woolsey and his wife have responded to every request, whether from the FBI, or, more recently, the Office of the Special Counsel.”

[…]In March, Woolsey confirmed to MSNBC the contents of a Wall Street Journal story which reported Woolsey’s account of a meeting he says made him so uncomfortable he felt compelled to report what happened to Vice President Joseph Biden.

Political operative and Trump insider Roger Stone says special counsel Robert Mueller was fed false intelligence by ex-CIA Director Chuck Wolsey, which was obtained during a meeting with former Vice-President Joe Biden, and ex-top Obama officials Susan Rice and Ben Rhodes.

Stone believes Flynn was “broken,” using a combination of false intelligence and financial pressure from mounting legals bill.

“Woolsey is projecting,” Stone says, “he was involved in the plans to extradite and kidnap the Turkish cleric.”

Supporters of Alabama GOP Senate nominee Judge Roy Moore argue that the entry of retired Marine Colonel Lee Busby into the race as a GOP write-in corroborates their suspicion that a Deep State disinformation campaign is underway to defeat Moore.

If Moore were to win, his supporters feel that it would be a coup for the Trump movement and a major show of force. Busby appeared in an interview with Dana Perino for FOX News Wednesday where he played with the discredited rumors about Judge Moore.

“I’m not running based on those allegations,” Busby stated before going into an offhanded slight, “While I certainly have my own personal and private conclusions about that mess.”

InfoWars’ Jerome Corsi reported on Busby, noting:

Busby insisted he voted for Ohio Governor John Kasich in the primaries, switching to vote for Trump in the general election.

This unverifiable assertion would make Busby one of only a handful of voters switching to Trump despite being left-leaning enough to back Kasich, the GOP governor who boycotted the GOP nominating convention in his home state out of openly expressed disdain for Trump.

The late entry of Colonel Busby is an obvious and egregious Deep State attack and one that is no doubt the work of the Ryan-McConnell wing of the GOP.

Corsi closed with a poetic sentiment:

Judge Roy Moore must stand firm, depending upon his faith in God, confident that on December 12, the voters in Alabama will realize that a vote for either Doug Jones or Lee Busby is a vote for the McConnell-Ryan-Schumer-Pelosi Deep State dark castle – a dark castle that has no intention whatsoever of making room in their lives or their hearts for Roy Moore, or for the ever-righteous grace of God and the everlasting light of His Eternal Truth.

ABC News scorched over ‘correction’ to Flynn story that tanked the stock market

ABC News is being flayed on social media over a blockbuster report that appeared to negatively affect the stock market, but was later “corrected” with what sounded more like a retraction.

Here’s when the original news broke:

ABC reported that Flynn “has promised full cooperation to the Mueller team.”

“Retired Lt. Gen Michael Flynn has promised ‘full cooperation’ in the special counsel’s Russia investigation and, according to a confidant, is prepared to testify that Donald Trump directed him to make contact with the Russians, initially as a way to work together to fight ISIS in Syria,” the report from ABC News read.

“The confidant told ABC News that Flynn felt abandoned by Trump in recent weeks, and told friends about the decision to make the plea deal within the last 24 hours as he grew increasingly concerned about crippling legal costs he would face if he continued to contest the charges,” it continued.

The ramifications of what seemed like a major scoop made the stock market crash by 400 points.

But hours later, they issued a correction which nearly erased the import of the entire scoop.

Here’s the correction from Brian Ross:

Here’s the clarification to the published ABC News story:

The original story implied possibly illegal actions by then-candidate Trump, but the clarification merely describes acts that would be normally expected by a president after he was elected.

What was the reaction?

Many saw the correction as disproportional to the original story, and some suggested that ABC needed to simply retract the story entirely.

Former Fox News anchor Greta Van Susteren tweeted, “Blunders like this are why so few trust media and it is wrong to describe as merely a clarification-it is a correction to a sloppy reported story that conveyed a sinister narrative.”

CNN editor Kyle Blaine wondered aloud why it took so long for a clarification to be released. “Why did ABC News leave this hanging out there until 6:30 pm?” he tweeted.

Former White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer jumped in, demanding an apology.

Will anyone be disciplined for the error?

CNN’s Oliver Darcy questioned ABC about corrective measures. “An ABC News spox told me the network learned its initial reporting was incorrect around 6pm. Spox declined to say if disciplinary action would occur,” he said.

Former Clinton campaign manager John Podesta jumped down the throat of feminist and Political Science major Nicole Kiprilov in front of 300 people at Duke University Wednesday, after the undergrad asked Podesta questions about how he responds to various controversies including ‘Pizzagate,’ Uranium One, The Podesta Group, and Joule Unlimited – a now-defunct Boston green energy company Podesta sat on the board of along with to two Russian officials, which received $35 million from the Kremlin while Hillary Clinton was Secretary of State.

In response to the next question from an audience member about how John feels about his brother Tony Podesta of the Podesta Group being under FBI investigation, John Podesta made sure to distance himself from Tony as he stammered through his response:

“Look I think my brother, uh, uh, A) I’m not my brother. Does it worry me? You know, I, I, It’s, it’s painful. I mean his firm, uh, uh, after many years in business, uh, uh, un-unraveled as a result of, I think of the fact that it was under investigation,” adding that he thinks Tony’s involvement with Manafort’s partner Rick Gates and Congressman Vin Weber (R-MN) was ill advised.

Alas, nobody asked him about explosive claims from a “long time former Podesta Group executive” who was “extensively” interviewed by Robert Mueller’s FBI Special Counsel and claims that in 2013, John Podesta recommended brother Tony hire David Adams – Hillary Clinton’s chief adviser at the State Department, giving the Podesta Group a “direct liaison” between the group’s Russian clients and Hillary Clinton’s State Department.
