Arizona Woman Defies City Order, Continues To Fly ‘Trump 2020’ Flag

Tawney Baccellia of Prescott Valley, Arizona, wanted to show her support for President Donald Trump by flying a “Trump 2020 – Keep America Great” flag in her backyard, but some of her neighbors took offense and voiced their objection to the city, which is now threatening stiff fines.

Baccellia began flying the banner in early November below a “thin blue line” American flag, which is meant to show her support for the police.

In late December, the Arizona woman and her husband received a letter from Prescott Valley — a city of about 45,000 people located 90 miles north of Phoenix — stating they had 10 days to remove “prohibited signage” from their flagpole or face a $100 fine.

According to Baccellia, the fine will continue to compound the longer they do not comply.

The portion of the city code cited to her prohibits “animated” or “flashing” signs, with animated meaning it changes positions, as flags of course do when the wind blows.

Baccellia also has a light on her flagpole to keep it illuminated at night.

In addition to the city ordinances cited, Arizona state law provides that residents only have the right to post political signs up to 60 days before a primary election and until 15 days after the general election.

Baccellia’s husband called the city official listed on the letter who informed him the offending sign was the couple’s “Trump 2020” flag, adding the city had received some complaints about it.

Baccellia told The Western Journal her response was to go purchase a new Trump flag to replace the one she had been flying, which was fraying.

“This is who I support. This is what I want on my flag and it’s in my backyard,” she said.

Baccellia posted the city’s letter directing her to take down the flag on her personal Facebook page, as well as local community pages, which she said “blew up” with comments of support.

Prescott Valley is in Yavapai County, which Trump carried by over 30 percentage points in 2016.

Baccellia received a strong ally in her cause in Prescott Valley Mayor Kell Palguta.

Palguta wrote on Facebook late last month, “I want to thank Tawney Baccellia for making a post about recently getting a notice from Code Enforcement to remove a second flag she had on her flagpole because it was currently against Town Code.”

“I want everyone to know I am 100 percent against the Code as it is written and will be working with Council and Staff to change it,” he added.

Palguta told The Western Journal that a flag and a sign are two different things, meaning the state law prohibition regarding political signs should not apply.

Do you think Baccellia has a constitutional right to fly her Trump 2020 flag?

Additionally, he anticipates the city code will be changed when the Prescott Valley council meets next month to make clear that Baccellia has a First Amendment right to fly her Trump flag.

“It’s not about the content of the flag. It has to do with the person’s right to fly it. … You can’t take that away from someone, and that is what the town is trying to do,” he explained.

Palguta, who is a diehard Arizona Cardinals fan, offered the example of his neighbor flying a Seattle Seahawks flag.

“I hate the Seahawks, but in no way am I ever going to tell him he needs to take it down because it’s not the right flag,” Palguta said. “That’s ridiculous. And guess what? I still say ‘Hi’ to him, and we’re still friends.”

“That’s what America’s about,” he added.

Baccellia intends to keep her flag flying and is hopeful the city ordinance will be changed before Prescott Valley levies any fines against her, which for now appears to be on hold.

She said the mayor has offered “amazing support.”

Palguta is optimistic all will work out in Baccellia’s favor in the end.

“I swore an oath to uphold the Constitution,” he said. “And the last time I checked the Constitution goes above the town code of Prescott Valley.”

Saying Trump Puts Americans in Danger, Rapper Asks 3rd-Most-Dangerous Country on the Planet – Nigeria – for Citizenship

Are you one of those people who buy into those #WWIII memes that popped up on Twitter after the United States killed Iranian Maj. Gen. Qassem Soleimani in a drone strike?

Rapper Cardi B is.

In fact, she’s decided she’s going to ask for citizenship in the third-most-dangerous country in the world, because that’s a great place to hide out from World War III.

Mrs. B — known legally as Belcalis Almánzar — made the announcement Friday on Twitter as tensions ratcheted up.

“Naaaaa these memes are f—in [laughing emojis] but s— ain’t no joke! Specially being from New York,” the rapper, best known for “Bodak Yellow” and “I Like It,” tweeted.

TRENDING: Comedian George Lopez on Iran’s ‘Bounty’ on Trump: ‘We’ll Do It for Half’

“Its sad this man is putting Americans live in danger,” she continued. “Dumbest move Trump did till date …I’m filing for my Nigerian citizenship.”

Granted, Cardi B isn’t what economists might call a “rational agent.”

She’s been in trouble for admitting that, before her rapper days, she drugged and robbed men for money. (Her defense for this, inexplicably, was that the men were “conscious, willing and aware” of being drugged and robbed.)

Do you think Cardi B will move to Nigeria?

100% (1 Votes)

0% (0 Votes)

As a teen, she was a member of the Bloods gang.

She’s fond of Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont — going as far as to interview him — yet she went on an epic, profane rant about how she didn’t know where her tax money was going.

She’s also a self-described political science junkie, and who wouldn’t take her opinions seriously?

Here’s her explaining why Franklin Delano Roosevelt was her favorite president: “[H]e helped us get over the Depression, all while he was in a wheelchair. Like, this man was suffering from polio at the time of his presidency, and yet all he was worried about was trying to make America great — make America great again for real. He’s the real ‘Make America Great Again,’ because if it wasn’t for him, old people wouldn’t even get Social Security.”

A very little bit of knowledge is a dangerous thing.

All of which is to say that maybe we shouldn’t be taking Cardi B too seriously — and yet, this thing got reported like it was no one’s business, to the point where a Nigerian government official responded to her request.

“As one in charge of the Diaspora for Ngr, We can’t wait to receive you again. Our doors are open, sister,” Abike Dabiri-Erewa said.

As for the “again” part, Cardi B has previously performed in Nigeria, according to the Daily Mail. One assumes she didn’t exactly see the whole country or even a sliver of it, and Dabiri-Erewa probably didn’t include the pamphlet disclosing that the country is one of the most dangerous in the world for expatriates.

InterNations’ 2019 survey of expatriate life included a safety and security category in which “respondents rated three factors including peacefulness, personal safety and political stability. The results were compiled to create a ranking of the most dangerous places to live,” Forbes explained.

Nigeria came in third, after South Africa and Brazil.

“We are not really free, cannot walk on the streets, cannot mingle with the Nigerians. There is always the possibility of danger,” a Hungarian expatriate said.

Meanwhile, a Rwandan expatriate talked about “the feeling of uncertainty. Almost anything can and might happen to me, anytime, anywhere.”

Now, granted, Cardi B has a lot of means to buy herself a lot of security. Perhaps she doesn’t want to “mingle with the Nigerians.” She’s also a former member of the Bloods who says she used to drug and rob men, so perhaps she’s used to and is willing to accept a certain amount of this kind of danger.

Still, it’s not exactly the best place to hide out from a war.

Nigeria wasn’t in the top 10 most dangerous in the Institute for Economics and Peace Global Peace Index for 2018, but it was No. 16, right in between North Korea and Lebanon. It is, in other words, sandwiched by a country that’s probably the odds-on leader for the nation most likely to be involved in a nuclear war and a country that’s overrun with Iranian proxies.

So, her dislike of Donald Trump is so reflexive her first thought is she’s safer in Nigeria — home of Boko Haram, the Islamic terrorist organization we’ve all kind of forgotten about and the likely culprit in a roadside bombing Monday that killed at least 30, according to Deutsche Welle.

The militant group is seeking to establish an Islamic state in Nigeria, which has the largest Muslim population in West Africa at more than 80 million people.

World War III is not going to happen. Cardi B is still much safer here than practically anywhere else in the world. That’s especially true when that somewhere else is Nigeria. This isn’t, as Cardi B is fond of saying, a money move.

But then that’s hardly the point. Any time Celebrity X says he or she is moving to Country Y because of Thing Z that Donald Trump did, you can just put the equation in parentheses and multiply it by zero. That’s how you figure out the percent chance they’re going to be loading up the U-Haul millionaire special and decamping from Beverly Hills to their country of choice.

Cardi B deserves a high grade for originality for picking Nigeria. Usually, it’s Canada or Sweden, something like that. Props for picking a country that’s 158th out of 189 countries in the Human Development Index ranking.

It shows, if nothing else, an impressive disregard for anything aside from a personal animus against the current administration.

President Donald Trump said Wednesday that funding for the missiles fired at military bases in Iraq on Tuesday night was “made available” by the Obama administration.

Trump comments at the White House came one day after Iran fired roughly 15 ballistic missiles into Iraq.

Eleven of them hit the Ain al-Asad Air Base and Erbil military base, Fox News reported, which house U.S. troops.

A U.S. military spokesman for Central Command said four of the missiles missed their targets.

According to Trump, the missiles fired at the bases were funded by money the Obama administration allowed Iran to obtain.

“The missiles fired last night at us and our allies were paid for with the funds made available by the last administration,” Trump said, according to the U.K. Daily Mail.

The president was referring to the Obama administration-negotiated Iran nuclear deal, formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, which Trump withdrew from in 2018.

The JCPOA, which included five other countries in addition to the U.S. and Iran, permitted between $100 billion and $150 billion in overseas Iranian assets to be unfrozen.

In 2016, the Obama administration also allowed $1.7 billion in cash to be flown to the Iranian regime.

“The very defective JCPOA expires shortly, anyway, and gives Iran a clear and quick path to nuclear breakout,” Trump said, as CNN reported.

“Iran must abandon its nuclear ambitions and end its support for terrorism,” he added.

“We must all work together toward making a deal with Iran that makes the world a safer and more peaceful place,” the president said.

Trump did note that despite the Iranian missile attacks, there were no casualties.

“The American people should be extremely grateful and happy” that no one was harmed, he said.

“Iran appears to be standing down, which is a good thing for all parties concerned and a very good thing for the world,” Trump said.

“To the people and leaders of Iran, we want you to have a future and a great future, one that you deserve,” the president added. “One of prosperity at home and harmony with the nations of the world.”

Iran Plane Crash Takes Dark Turn as Islamic Republic Refuses To Hand Over Black Boxes

Iran is now refusing to hand over the black boxes from a Boeing 737 passenger jet that went down in the Islamic Republic, supporting theories that the country was involved in the disaster.

Ali Abedzadeh, the head of Iran’s civil aviation agency, confirmed that the flight recorders would not be handed over to Boeing or the United States, the Persian-language news agency Mehr News reported.

“We will not give the black box to the manufacturer and the Americans,” Abedzadeh announced Wednesday.

The passenger plane, which was carrying 176 people, crashed with no survivors earlier the same day.

The Ukrainian-owned 737 went down shortly after takeoff.

Without the plane’s black boxes, which record vital information during flight, it might be impossible to confirm what exactly caused the plane to fall from the sky.

Although Iran insists the plane was downed by mechanical issues, the crash came at a time of heightened tension following a U.S. drone strike that killed Iranian Gen. Qassem Soleimani and Iran’s launch of ballistic missiles in response.

Many have speculated that an anti-aircraft gunner with an itchy trigger finger might be behind the deaths.

Video of the crash shows the plane engulfed in flames before finally slamming into the ground.

Although it’s unclear what the cause of the plane’s crash was, some speculated that it could be the fault of Iranian air defense systems that may have mistaken a civil aircraft for an American warplane.

The timing of the crash itself is highly suspect. News of the accident broke as the region reeled from a salvo of Iranian missiles fired at two Iraqi airbases known to house U.S. troops.

So far, there have been no confirmed casualties as a result of the missile strikes.

RELATED: Saying Trump Puts Americans in Danger, Rapper Asks 3rd-Most-Dangerous Country on the Planet – Nigeria – for Citizenship

In an effort to prevent more deaths from any possible misidentification, U.S. civil pilots have been instructed to steer clear of the region.

The Federal Aviation Administration issued a set of flight restrictions aiming to keep civil aviation operators away from the airspace over Iran, Iraq and surrounding areas.

It remains to be seen if the 737 crash was simply caused by a fatal mechanical flaw that came at the wrong time, or was the result of a military blunder.

Spare Change Collected in Baby Bottles Makes Couple’s Adoption Dreams Come True

A Mississippi family looking to adopt a baby had their dream come true after receiving baby bottles filled with spare change donated by friends, colleagues, and strangers.

Rachel King and her husband Wesley tried for years to have a child before making a decision to adopt. They eventually decided to host a baby bottle fundraiser in March 2019 to raise enough money for the staggering cost of adoption.

According to the website American Adoptions, an average American adoption costs about $40,000 to $50,000.

They were at the hospital to welcome their nephew into the world when they received a call stating that a birth mother had chosen them.

“It was such a God thing. We were holding him and found out we were going to be parents the same day,” Rachel King told WAPT about the child, whom they named Jon Anderson King.

“During the adoption, we learned that I was pregnant,” Rachel King said. “We are expecting another baby boy due in February.” The Kings decided to plan a gender reveal party when Rachel learned she was pregnant.

She added that she would never have dreamed that she would be able to have another child.

“We were told we had 0% chance,” Rachel King said. “Then all of a sudden, it’s like once we said, yes to God and his plan for us, it’s like, ‘Now that you finally trust me, we’re going to give you double the blessing.’”

The Kings’ baby boys will be born four months apart. The couple hopes that their story inspires others to consider adoption and those expecting to become parents someday never to give up.

FNC’s Ingraham: American Media ‘Propagandists’ for Iran

President Donald Trump has long hit at the “fake news” media, once calling dishonest outlets the “enemy of the people.”

During Tuesday’s “Ingraham Angle” on Fox News Channel, host Laura Ingraham called the American media “propagandists” for Iran amid the country’s spat with the United States.

“As the Iranian missiles fly, a look at their American propagandists,” Ingraham opened a segment. “That’s the focus of tonight’s ‘Angle.’ For as long as he has been on the political scene, Donald Trump has been jousting with the media. Because they pose after all as the gatekeepers of democracy. But he exposes them as left-wing pundits masquerading as reporters.”

She added, “Americans are sick and tired of only getting their news from people who hate the president and can’t set aside their own biases at The New York Times, CNN, NBC, etc. But in the wake of the [Qasem] Soleimani hit and on tonight’s missile attacks on U.S. facilities in Iraq, the media is validating Trump’s criticism because their analysis: well, basically the enemy of my enemy is my friend.”

Ingraham went on to play clips of the mainstream media propping up Iran following Trump’s ordered airstrikes to kill Iran Gen. Qasem Soleimani and making Trump out to be the “tyrant.”

She noted, “Amazingly, though, despite Iran’s brutal repression of true democracy, the left is portraying Trump as the tyrant.”

“They’re actually now parroting Iranian talking points,” she added before showing the similarity in clips of Iran’s foreign minister and members of the media talking about Trump’s ordered attack.

“Is this really journalism?” she asked after the clips played. “Maybe the phrase ‘the enemy of the people’ is harsh, yeah it’s harsh, but ignoring inconvenient facts isn’t what real journalists are supposed to do. If they loathe to give Donald Trump the benefit of the doubt, why are they so willing to afford Iran that luxury?”

Lawsuit: Google Stole Smart Speaker Tech from Sonos

Speaker manufacturer Sonos has reportedly sued tech giant Google over the alleged theft of smart speaker technology. According to Sonos CEO Patrick Spence, “Despite our repeated and extensive efforts over the last few years, Google has not shown any willingness to work with us on a mutually beneficial solution. We’re left with no choice but to litigate.”

The New York Times reports that speaker manufacturer Sonos is suing tech giant Google over the alleged theft of smart speaker tech. Sonos reportedly provided Google with design blueprints to its speakers in 2013 after the two companies reached a deal to have Google’s music service work with Sonos speakers. Now, Sonos executives are alleging in a lawsuit that Google has infringed on five of its patents.

Sonos executives claim that the company’s complaints go far beyond simple patent infringement, alleging that the legal action is a result of years of growing dependence on both Google and Amazon both of which used their leverage against Sonos to put pressure on the company.

Sonos’ speakers are integrated with both Amazon and Google’s virtual assistants, its speakers are advertised on Google and sold via Amazon. Sonos quietly became dissatisfied with its growing reliance on the tech giants, and over the past few months, Sonos Chief Executive Patrick Spence decided the company had to do something about the situation.

Spence said in a statement: “Google has been blatantly and knowingly copying our patented technology. Despite our repeated and extensive efforts over the last few years, Google has not shown any willingness to work with us on a mutually beneficial solution. We’re left with no choice but to litigate.”

A Google spokesperson told the Times that Google and Sonos had discussed both companies’ intellectual property for years “and we are disappointed that Sonos brought these lawsuits instead of continuing negotiations in good faith.” The spokesperson added: “We dispute these claims and will defend them vigorously.” An Amazon spokesperson also simply stated: “The Echo family of devices and our multiroom music technology were developed independently by Amazon.”

Sally Hubbard, a former assistant attorney general in New York’s antitrust bureau who now works at Open Markets Institute, discussed the fear that many companies have of retaliation from tech giants stating: “The fear of retaliation is a real fear. Any of these companies could bury them tomorrow. Google could bury them in their search results. Amazon can bury them in their search results. It’s really hard to find any industry where corporations are not dependent on one of the big tech giants.”

Swedish Church to Replace LGBT Eden Painting with Jesus in High Heels Art

The St. Pauli church in the Swedish multicultural city of Malmo will replace a controversial pro-LGBT altarpiece with another work depicting Jesus Christ in high heels.

Swedish priest Helena Myrstener told media that the original painting, which was taken down because some claimed it depicted transgender individuals in a negative light, will be replaced by a print of another work by the same artist which depicts a transgender Jesus at the last supper, broadcaster SVT reports.

The painting, entitled Paradise, is the creation of Swedish artist Elisabeth Ohlson Wallin and depicted a scene from the Garden of Eden with same-sex couples and transgender figures.

The painting stirred controversy as it was hung at the altar of the church. But it was the depiction of a transgender figure with the serpent — and therefore the association with evil and temptation — which outraged activists and led to the painting being removed.

The artist behind the piece reacted negatively to the move, saying: “The Church of Sweden has until today had problems with transgender people, so to give the appearance that they now care about transgender people is a step, but it was devious to remove the painting. They will be ashamed of this history.”

Wallin went on to reject the interpretation that the painting associated transgender people with evil or temptation and added she would create a new altar painting for the church.

In the meantime, the church will be hanging another artwork at the altar, entitled The Communion, from Wallin’s Ecce Homo collection. A take on Leonardo Da Vinci’s Last Supper, the work depicts Jesus Christ as a crossdresser surrounded by transgender figures in place of the Apostles.

Sweden’s state church is well-known for its progressive liberal stances which have seen lesbian Stockholm archbishop Eva Brunne claim she has more in common with Muslims than conservative Christians.

Rand Paul Praises Trump Push for ‘Peace and Prosperity,’ Better Iran Deal

Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) praised President Donald Trump’s push for “peace and prosperity” with Iran as well as a better nuclear deal.

Sen. Paul, a staunch supporter of a noninterventionist foreign policy, released a statement after President Trump said in an address Wednesday that he would only level economic sanctions in response to Iran’s missile attacks in Iraq and called for peace with Iran.

During his address, Trump called for peace, including the possibility of negotiating a better nuclear treaty with Iran.

“To the people and leaders of Iran, we want you to have a future, and a great future, one that you deserve, one of prosperity at home and harmony with the nations of the world,” Trump said. “The United States is ready to embrace peace.”

Sen. Paul praised the president’s de-escalation with Iran as well as Trump’s call for a better treaty with Iran.

The Kentucky Republican said:

I am pleased that President Trump has pulled back and taken the preferred path of no further military action. I believe any further decisions on military action require a full debate and Congressional authority. I’m also pleased that he is engaging our allies to push Iran for a new, better deal. We should all work together toward peace and prosperity, to avoid war, and for our troops to come home from the Middle East.

Gil Barndollar, a Defense Priorities senior fellow, said in a statement Wednesday that the United States should abandon its “maximum pressure” strategy with Iran and instead engage in diplomacy with the country.

Barndollar said:

Continuing maximum pressure while claiming you don’t want war with Iran is like playing Russian roulette and claiming you don’t want to commit suicide.

A war in the Persian Gulf would be ruinous for all nations involved—most of which would be U.S. partners—and would weaken the United States. The way out is clear. The U.S. should de-escalate by abandoning maximum pressure and seeking talks with Iran. The ball is in our court.

Sen. Mike Lee, another noninterventionist Republican senator, said Wednesday that the United States should deescalate tensions with Iran and that America should withdraw troops from the Middle East.
