Lawmaker Who Warned Against Drunk Driving Arrested For Drunk Driving On New Year’s Eve…

Irony is dead.

Via NY Post:

ALBANY — The top state Assembly Republican was busted for drunk driving on New Year’s Eve — just a week after publishing an op-ed warning against the perils of getting behind the wheel under the influence.

Assembly Minority Leader Brian Kolb was charged upstate with driving under the influence when he crashed his state-issued car Tuesday night, according to the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office.

Kolb was driving a 2018 GMC Acadia near his home in the upstate town of Victor, near Rochester, when he drove his car into a ditch on County Road 41 around 10:30 p.m. and someone called 911, authorities said.

NY Times Reporter Blames White Nationalism for Anti-Semitic Attacks in New York

New York Times political reporter Astead Herndon blamed white nationalism for the spate of anti-Semitic attacks that have broken out across New York City.

In an interview on NPR’s 1A, host Todd Zwillich asked Herndon how New Yorkers were reacting to these incidents and the "growing national trend" of anti-Semitic violence.

Herndon said that what’s important is "naming [anti-Semitism] for what it is," which is why we are now seeing policies that "target white nationalism and to really root it out at its core, and that’s going to continue because we have seen this spike in hate crimes, particularly against the Jewish community."

The apparently confused host responded that the attackers in these incidents were not white supremacists, as in the Pittsburgh synagogue shooting, but African Americans "maybe with a different world view."

In December, an attack on a kosher grocery in Jersey City left six dead, including the two African-American gunmen who instigated the attack. The attackers were affiliated with an extremist anti-Semitic group known as the Black Hebrew Israelites. Last week, an African-American man burst into a Hanukkah party at the home of a rabbi in the New York City suburb of Monsey, stabbing five Jews, one of whom remains in critical condition at an area hospital. And in the intervening weeks, there have been numerous reports of African-American violence against Jewish people in the city of New York, leading Mayor Bill de Blasio to deploy additional police to Jewish neighborhoods in Brooklyn and elsewhere.

Acknowledging that the recent anti-Semitic attacks were committed by African Americans, Herndon argued that "these ideologies have roots in all communities" and are not limited to white nationalists.

"Anti-Semitism is something that is pervasive across communities and can in fact include black ones, just the way that things like sexism, racism, and other forms of hatred can affect communities outside of maybe specifically just the ones we typically associate them with," he said. "That is just another reason for folks to be able to call this out and to be able to make this clear that the issue of anti-Semitism is one that is larger than just white nationalists, or one that is larger than just an individual political actor, but one that has a global ideology of hatred."

200 Members of Congress Urge the Supreme Court to Reconsider Roe

More than 200 members of Congress urged the Supreme Court to reconsider Roe v. Wade on Thursday, ahead of a March case concerning the constitutionality of a Louisiana regulation on abortion providers.

The lawmakers, who include 39 senators and 168 members of the House of Representatives, filed a legal brief arguing abortion case law is haphazard and inconsistent, warranting reconsideration of Roe.

dailycallerlogo

“Forty-six years after Roe was decided, it remains a radically unsettled precedent: two of the seven Justices who originally joined the majority subsequently repudiated it in whole or in part, and virtually every abortion decision since has been closely divided,” the brief reads.

Americans United for Life prepared Thursday’s filing. The Senate leaders of the coalition are Sens. John Kennedy of Louisiana and Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee. The House leaders are House Minority Whip Steve Scalise and Rep. Michael Johnson, both of Louisiana.

Lawmakers Say Abortion Decisions Are Confusing, Subject to Constant Change

The Supreme Court’s 1992 Casey decision exemplifies the permanent flux of abortion jurisprudence, the brief argues. Casey involved a Pennsylvania law requiring doctors to counsel patients about abortion 24 hours before the procedure and obtain parental consent if the patient is a minor, among other things. The high court upheld those requirements. In so doing, it overturned two decisions from the 1980s that blocked comparable regulations.

A similar sequence preceded the 2007 Gonzalez v. Carhart decision, the lawmakers note. In Gonzalez, the high court upheld the federal Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act. That law banned an abortion method called intact dilation and extraction. Just seven years earlier, however, the justices struck down a Nebraska law much like the federal PBA ban.

“These incessant retrenchments show that Roe has been substantially undermined by subsequent authority, a principal factor the Court considers when deciding whether to overrule precedent,” the brief reads. “Casey clearly did not settle the abortion issue, and it is time for the Court to take it up again.”

Elsewhere the lawmakers wrote that abortion case law is “characterized by Delphic confusion and protean change.”

Louisiana’s Admitting Privileges Law

At issue in the Louisiana dispute is a law called Act 620, which requires that abortion providers have admitting privileges at a local hospital. Lawyers for the state told the justices in legal briefs that the law “improves abortion safety by means of doctor credentialing,” since the admitting privileges application process ensures a high level of physician competency. The requirement is necessary because of Louisiana’s “long, disturbing history of serious health and safety problems,” the state’s brief argues.

A coalition of providers challenging Act 620 say admitting privileges have little bearing on professional fitness. Privileges are sometimes conditioned on factors having nothing to do with ability, like admitting a certain number of patients each year. As such, the providers believe the law’s true purpose is to close abortion clinics by imposing needless requirements with which physicians can’t realistically comply.

A federal trial judge agreed, finding two of Louisiana’s three abortion clinics would close if Act 620 were enforced. The judge said the increased wait times and travel distances which would follow create an “undue burden” on abortion access.

The 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals reversed and upheld the law, so the plaintiff physicians appealed to the Supreme Court. The justices said the law could not take effect while litigation continued in February 2019. Arguments in the case are scheduled for March 4, with a decision to follow by June.

Approximately 10,000 abortions are performed in Louisiana each year.

The consolidated cases are No. 18-1323 June Medical Services LLC v. Gee and No. 18-1460 Gee v. June Medical Services LLC.

Early Feminists Were Right About Unborn Human Life

Although
they were considered radical at the time, American suffragists were unrelenting
in their efforts to transform our country’s politics and empower women with the
right to vote.

The year 2020 marks the centennial of their victory in that battle, and while it is an occasion to celebrate, it is also a reminder that we must continue the work of these early feminists.

In addition to voting rights, suffragists championed abolition, equality in education, equal pay for equal work, and the right to life for the unborn.

Unlike many radical feminists of the second half of the 20th century and into 21st century, these women realized that abortion does not empower women. In honor of these suffragists, the theme for the 47th annual March for Life is “Life Empowers: Pro-Life Is Pro-Woman.”

American suffragists looked to the examples of their predecessors and were especially inspired by the English philosopher, author, and feminist Mary Wollstonecraft.

Born in Spitalfields, London, in 1759, Wollstonecraft began advocating equality for women long before the height of the women’s suffrage movement in the United States.

Though she is perhaps best known as the mother of Mary Shelley, who wrote the classic novel “Frankenstein: The Modern Prometheus,” Wollstonecraft was a prominent author in her own right. Her most famous work, “A Vindication of the Rights of Woman,” was published in 1792 and circulated several decades later by American suffragists Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony in their newspaper, Revolution.

Wollstonecraft advocated education reform as a means of empowering women and argued that the education system had been designed to oppress women, undermining their formation in a way that prevented them not only from flourishing as wives and mothers, but also blocking them from entering professional fields.

>>> Conservative Feminism is Not an Oxymoron

She
believed that empowered women would embrace motherhood and described women who
fulfilled their responsibilities as “independent.” According to Wollstonecraft,
women’s first duty “is to themselves as rational creatures” and secondly “as
citizens, is that, which includes so many, of a mother.”

Wollstonecraft
viewed abortion as a depraved consequence of society’s failure to recognize the
intrinsic value of women, as well as of the prevailing attitude that women
should be objectified and subjugated by men.

She described women and children as victims of this failure to value women and motherhood:

Women becoming, consequently, weaker, in mind and body … have not sufficient strength to discharge the first duty of a mother; and sacrificing to lasciviousness the parental affection, that ennobles instinct, either destroy the embryo in the womb, or cast it off when born.

Wollstonecraft
promoted pro-life ideals in her writing, but she also embodied the sacrifices
she wrote about in her own life as a single mother, having her first child,
Fanny Imlay, out of wedlock despite the harsh judgment of society.

Drawing on her experience as a mother, she argued that better education for women would allow future generations to flourish. She wrote that raising future generations of children “has justly been insisted on as the peculiar destination of woman” and therefore that “the ignorance that incapacitates them must be contrary to the order of things.”

>>> UsToo: How Liberal Feminism Excludes Millions of Women

Like Wollstonecraft, today’s pro-life feminists work to transform our culture into one that is both pro-child and pro-woman, recognizing that abortion violates motherhood and undermines women’s empowerment.

Since 1973, abortion has eliminated more 60 million children and harmed millions of mothers in the process. Giving women the right to vote was once considered radical, but today we often take it for granted.

We hope someday to see a world in which embracing the dignity of every human life, both women and their unborn children, is no longer considered a radical idea.

CBS: Soleimani Was a ‘Revered,’ ‘Inspiring’ ‘Military Genius’

The journalists at CBS just couldn’t help themselves with the flowery language for dead terrorist Qasem Soleimani. This Morning reporter Holly Williams described the man who ordered the killing of U.S. military members as a “revered,” “inspiring” “military genius.” She blandly understated, “For America, though, General Soleimani was a problem.” Williams began: “There are fears that the killing of Soleimani, a revered figure in Iran and some other places in the Middle East, could see simmering tensions between the U.S. and…

Dan Crenshaw, Ted Cruz Watch Then Mock Liberals Over Stupid Gun Lies

Almost as if by clockwork, countless Democrats pop up after a high-profile shooting incident and immediately demand stricter gun control laws — even as facts of the shooting are unclear and the reality remains that their proposals would do nothing to prevent such incidents in the future.

If it weren’t for the serious nature of the left’s incessant threats to undermine and destroy a fundamental Constitutional right, the constant calls for gun control could be ignored.

Yet, even in spite of the dire seriousness of Democrats’ intentions, the decidedly unserious and overtly ignorant manner in which some Democrats make those calls to disarm the American people is laughable.

The National Rifle Association recently spent some time with three proud gun owners and Second Amendment advocates from Texas — Republican Sen. Ted Cruz, Rep. Dan Crenshaw, and conservative comedian Chad Prather — to gauge their reactions to several clips of Democrats demanding more gun control laws.

TRENDING: Beth Moore Outed as NeverTrumper

First up was a nearly unintelligible garble of words from former Vice President Joe Biden.

Biden babbled on incoherently about “a magazine with 100 clips in it” and how geese were better protected than humans since hunting regulations limited shotguns to only three rounds, or some such nonsense.

Prather could only utter “Wow” in response to the clip while Crenshaw said, “I have no idea what he’s talking about. Yeah. That was so ridiculous,” and later added, “It’s a magazine, by the way, it’s not a clip.”

Next up was a video of former Texas representative and failed Democratic presidential candidate Robert “Beto” O’Rourke.

The clip was of his infamous “Hell yes, we’re gonna take your AR-15, your AK-47” quip at a primary debate just prior to dropping out of the race.

Cruz could only chuckle and shake his head as he sarcastically said, “Well, look, I feel quite confident if a skinny liberal shows up at your door, you will naturally disarm and just give up your rights.”

The senator went on to explain more seriously that O’Rourke and others wanted to take away people’s guns because “A disarmed citizenry is dependent on the government. It’s docile, it’s controllable, and they want all the power to be in Washington.”

Crenshaw said, “Rifles are only responsible for less than 3 percent of gun deaths. So if you’re trying to solve the problem, this isn’t the way to do it.”

RELATED: Virginia Dems’ Gun-Grabbing Plans Are Already Backfiring

Following that was a clip of Democratic Texas Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee rambling on about the time she held a “heavy” AR-15 rifle which was supposedly chambered for a .50-caliber bullet, ammunition that in her view should be “licensed” and banned from the streets.

Cruz said, “I don’t know what Sheila is describing there, maybe someone gave her a Revolutionary War cannon — but it ain’t any AR-15 I’ve ever seen.”

The senator went on to compare her remarks to the absurd USA Today article which had asserted that a “chainsaw bayonet” was a popular attachment to AR-15 rifles. He said, “This is nutty, it is ignorant, and it is all designed to scare people and go after your rights.”

The final clip was of Democratic Michigan Rep. Haley Stevens literally screaming to her constituents about how “the NRA has got to go!”

In response to that, Crenshaw said, “So much emotion, as is always the case with Democrats. A lot of emotion and never any substance.”

“What they’re really saying is that they don’t like the fact that millions and millions of people get together and have their voice heard because they believe in the right to self-defense and they believe in the Second Amendment. Democrats hate that,” the congressman added. “What they want is tyranny up at the top and they want to take your weapons and remove that right to self-defense.”

These guys are absolutely right that when Democrats talk about gun control they are actually focused less on the guns and more on the control aspect, as an armed populace is not easily controlled and stands in the way of their grand authoritarian plans for the country.

The concerted assault on Americans’ guaranteed right to keep and bear arms is incredibly serious — something liberals who don’t bother to educate themselves about guns clearly don’t believe.

And sometimes, the lunacy and lies put forward by gun-grabbers are simply so absurd that they are openly mocked for the utterly unconstitutional joke their proposals truly are.

Cynics on the road ahead for federal law enforcement

Cynics on the road ahead for federal law enforcementWhen laws seem not to apply to those who create or enforce them, skepticism can turn into cynicism.

If left unresolved, cynicism can move toward a critical mass that, when met, bids trouble for the fate of a nation.

Today, concerning current political events, more than a few people toggle back and forth between skepticism and cynicism.

Trump Trade Adviser Makes Bold Prediction For Stock Market, Economy In 2020

Dr. Peter Navarro,  Director of the Office of Trade and Manufacturing Policy (OTMP), made bold predictions for the stock market and the U.S. economy in 2020 this week, saying that both are poised to have big years due to the Trump administration’s policies.

On Tuesday, Navarro told CNBC’s “Squawk Box” that he predicts “at least 32,000 on the Dow” in 2020.

Speaking Thursday on Fox News, Navarro made further predictions for the U.S. economy, saying that a number of factors that are coming together are going to make for a strong U.S. economy in 2020.

“Hey, my forecast streak is on the line here. the day after the election, i said $25,000 on the Dow, everybody said I was crazy,” Navarro said. “July, I said 30,000 on the Dow if we got USMCA passes and interest rates down. 330 points today, we are getting closer to that.”

“I am bullish and the reason why I’m bullish is because of the underlying strength of the GDP growth engine. It’s one of the four things that drive this economy: consumption, investment, government spending, and exports,” Navarro said. “Every one of those under President Donald J Trump is hitting on all cylinders. You know, the consumer low unemployment, rising wages, high optimism, that’s going to be the anchor of 2020, but we also have five trade deals that are going to kick in and force in 2020 with Japan, South Korea, Canada, Mexico, and China. Score that for exports.”

WATCH:

“Here’s my sleeper, there wasn’t enough attention paid to passage the appropriations bill and National Defense Authorization Act a couple weeks ago, that is a built-in beautiful fiscal floor for growth in 2020,” Navarro continued. “And of course, investment which lacked a bit in 2019, it’s coming in the greatest economy in the world right now and the trade policy encourages it to come here because people know they want production here and if we don’t get it they get tariffs.”

Navarro later weighed in on “smart money” saying that increased government spending was a “ticking time bomb,” saying, “Until you see the bond market tell you it’s a ticking bomb, it ain’t a ticking time bomb. It’s basically putting in a beautiful fiscal floor to grow. And, you know, as the director of the Office of Trade and Manufacturing Policy, I’m particularly heartened by the nature of those expenditures because we got a really solid defense budget now. And, you know, I go around the country, places like the Philly Shipyard or the combat vehicle plants in, like, Lima, Ohio or York, Pennsylvania, the shipbuilding up in Marinette, Wisconsin, these are the places where line item by line item in the defense budget, the blue wall states. The Midwest is absolutely booming.”

Navarro later predicted that American businesses are going to “unleash” in their spending in 2020.

“I think they’re going to unleash. I think what turned things around, Charles, was that jobs report, that blow-out jobs report, which basically finished off any doubt that we were going to have a good 2020,” Navarro said. “And again, you know, the smart money is going to look at what I told you about with that government spending with the appropriations bill.”
