David Hogg Gets Walloped for Open-Borders Tweet That Accidentally Supported Pro-Wall Arguments

It might have seemed as though David Hogg, a survivor of the Parkland, Florida, school shooting in 2018 who became the Next Big Thing in gun control, had disappeared from the media for a while. But he was back in all his liberal glory with a hot take on Tuesday night’s Democratic primary debate. And…

‘A Disservice To Serious People’: CNN Ripped Apart Over Debate Production

Prior to Tuesday’s Democratic presidential primary debate in Detroit, CNN put ample time, money and energy into promoting the event. The network’s execution and production of the political affair didn’t appear to pay off, however. The television juice, as they say in the biz, wasn’t worth the squeeze. Many observers and viewers didn’t mince words…

Ratings for last night’s Democratic debate were down sharply compared to the one last month

The first round of Democratic debates last month set a viewership record. The first night of those debates was watched by 15.3 million people and the second night by 18.1 million viewers. At the time, DNC Chairman Tom Perez was thrilled with the outcome, pointing out that in addition to TV viewership nearly 9 million people watched the first debate via live stream. Last night’s debate was a different story. NBC reports the viewership for last night was a little more than half of the first debate, while livestream viewing was about a third as much:

Night 1 of CNN’s Democratic presidential debate on Tuesday attracted 8.7 million viewers, according to the cable network, a significant decline in ratings from the first debate of the 2020 election cycle.

The network also recorded 2.8 million starts for its livestream from the historic Fox Theatre in Detroit…

The broadcast Tuesday featured 10 Democratic candidates for president including Sens. Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders, and was the second-most watched Democratic debate in CNN’s history, illustrating continued public interest well ahead of the 2020 election.

Maybe those are good numbers for CNN but clearly down quite a bit from what we saw last month (8.7 million vs. 15.3 million). The Hill points out that last night’s debate was up against the finale of “The Bachelorette.” I’ve never watched a second of that show but I bet it’s more entertaining than listening to Elizabeth Warren.

Still, there is reason to think viewership will be higher tonight. For one thing, less competition. For another, that’s what happened last time. And finally, it’s worth noting that tonight’s debate and the 2nd debate last month (the one that set the record ratings) both have one thing in common: Joe Biden.

Last night’s debate featured Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren and a cast of backbenchers. Tonight will feature the Dems’ leading candidate plus a possible rematch with Kamala Harris who surged in the polls after sandbagging Biden during the last debate. So tonight has the big draw plus the big drama.

It’ll be interesting to see just how much higher the viewership is tonight. If it’s just a little higher then that may be a sign people are growing tired of all the candidates. On the other hand, if the viewership is substantially higher tonight, maybe even close to last month’s levels, that might suggest they’re really focused on wherever Joe Biden is and not as interested in everyone else. I’d take a big surge tonight as a clear sign it’s time to winnow the field.

Former Google Employee Confirms YouTube Manipulated Search Results

Software engineer Mike Wacker, until recently an employee of Google, confirmed Breitbart News’ report that the tech giant reordered its YouTube search results for “Federal Reserve” following criticism by left-wing MSNBC host Chris Hayes.

In a tweet, Wacker confirmed the details of Breitbart’s report — that Google, which owns YouTube, manually added the term “Federal Reserve” to its blacklist of “controversial YouTube search queries” a day after Hayes complained about the original results, which featured a number of videos critical of the Fed.

Wacker previously authored an article on Medium.com in which he challenged Google CEO Sundar Pichai’s claim, made under oath before Congress, that the company doesn’t “manually intervene” in any search result.

“Since I didn’t cover it in the Medium post, the blacklist entries related to the Federal Reserve were added on Sep 7, 2018, a day after [Chris Hayes] sent his tweets complaining about YouTube search results for that topic,” wrote Wacker in a tweet earlier today.

In his Medium post earlier this year, Wacker also confirmed that he was the author of an internal Google discussion thread about the full YouTube search blacklist, which reordered a number of search results for political topics, including the search terms “abortion,” “abortions,” “Maxine Waters” and “David Hogg.”

In the discussion thread, parts of which were obtained by Breitbart News and published earlier this year, Wacker described the manipulation of search results as a “smoking gun” proving Google’s political bias.

The leaked thread reveals that YouTube embarked on a similar chain of decisions when adjusting search results for “abortion,” and “abortions.” Like search results for “Federal Reserve,” they were altered by the tech giant after a left-wing journalist — this time from Slate — complained about the prominence of pro-life videos in the search results.

Project Veritas later obtained further documents from inside Google showing that the company changed YouTube search results for topics related to the Irish referendum to decriminalize abortion, adjusting results in a manner that favored the pro-abortion side shortly before the vote took place.

In a comment to Breitbart News yesterday, a YouTube spokesman did not deny that the company is changing its search results on political topics, but said it did so to prevent the spread of “conspiracy theories” on the platform:

We’ve been very public that for a wide range of news and information queries, we have algorithms that are designed to surface authoritative content of all political viewpoints. This helps prevent spam and conspiracy theories from surfacing prominently on our site.

Breitbart News will continue to investigate Google’s manipulation of search results.

Ben Carson Tours Baltimore: Cannot Ignore ‘Devastating Effect’ of Vermin, Ticks, Mold, Lead

Former pediatric neurosurgeon andnow Secretary of Urban and Housing Development (HUD) Ben Carson spoke to reporters on Wednesday after touring Baltimore, saying the city where he practiced for years has a “special place in my heart,” but the things harming residents, especially children, cannot be ignored.

“As a pediatric neurosurgeon, you know I spent a lot of time trying to give the children here in Baltimore a second chance at life, operating for hours and hours, all night sometimes,” said Carson, who was the director of pediatric neurosurgery at the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center. “Most of the times being successful.”

But when it came to sending the children home, Carson said he struggled:

Days later being in a dilemma about sending those kids back into some of the neighborhoods that I knew they came from in east Baltimore and west Baltimore where there were rats, and roaches, and mice, and ticks; where there was just unabated lead problems that were having devastating effects on the mental development of young people; where there was mold.

“We had large numbers of people with asthma because of the mold and some of the environmental issues,” Carson said. “So, you know that – that was a problem for me and it stayed on my mind a lot.”

“I have a special place in my heart for Baltimore and for the people of Baltimore,” Carson said. “There are a lot of excellent, wonderful people here.” He went on:

And there are a lot of good places here in Baltimore as well, but there are problems and we can’t sweep them under the rug. You know, it’s sort of like if you have a patient who has cancer and you can dress them up and put a nice suit on them and you can try to ignore it, but that cancer is going to have a devastating effect.

“You have to be willing to address that issue if you are ever going to solve it,” Carson said.

Carson also spoke about what President Donald Trump has done to try to help with what HUD calls, “distressed communities” — an issue the secretary said he discussed with Trump before endorsing him in 2016.

“Before I endorsed him when I dropped out of the race, we sat down and had a prolonged talk about the poor people of our country and what were we going to do about it. And you’ve seen some of the results, opportunity zones,” Carson said.

Carson is referring to the program created through Trump’s 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act:

Opportunity Zones are census tracts that were determined by state executives to be the most in need of private investment. The Opportunity Zone designation encourages investment by granting investors extensive federal tax advantages for using their capital to finance new projects and enterprises located within the Opportunity Zones.

You know there are 149 [opportunity zones] here in the state of Maryland. We’re in an opportunity zone right now — places that have been encouraged — have set up programs, so that people can take unrealized capital gains and invest them into opportunity zones over the long term.

And of course if people are investing their money over the long term, they aren’t just going to walk away and be uninterested in what happens. They want a return on their investment, so they’ll continue to be interested in those areas. And we’re already seeing tremendous progress all over the country. And that is going to occur here in Baltimore, too.”

Carson’s visit comes after Trump tweeted about how Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD) complained about conditions people were living in at the U.S. border with Mexico where thousands of migrants have poured into the United States while some of his own constituents were living in dangerous conditions, including areas in Baltimore with rat infestations and high crime.

Carson invited Cummings to join him on the tour, but the anti-Trump Democrat declined.

Socialism Is a Bore: Democrats Lose 43% of Their Audience in Second Debate

Big Yawn.
Democrats lost 43% of their audience last night compared to their first debate.

Via The Hollywood Reporter:

The news network’s coverage of the 10 candidates slides by more than 40 percent over the first debate of the primary cycle in late June.
The second Democratic presidential primary debate didn’t draw nearly as big an audience as the first.

CNN’s coverage of Tuesday’s debate — the first of two, featuring 10 candidates each night — drew 8.69 million viewers (including CNN en Español). That’s down a sizable 43 percent from the opening debate on June 26, though it’s not an entirely apples-to-apples comparison, since the latter aired across three networks: NBC, MSNBC and Telemundo. CNN’s audience Tuesday is a tick higher than NBC’s share (8.68 million) of the June 26 total.

John Solomon: Barr Uncovered “Very Troubling Information” on “Fraudulent” FISA Process – EVERYONE Involved, Including Comey, Under SERIOUS SCRUTINY (VIDEO)

As reported earlier by Cristina Laila…

DOJ Inspector General Michael Horowitz is preparing a very damning report on James Comey’s conduct in the days leading up to his firing that will likely conclude he leaked classified information (memos) and lacked candor (lied).

According to a report out by award-winning investigative journalist John Solomon, Horowitz’s team referred James Comey for possible prosecution for leaking contents of his classified memos, but DOJ prosecutors under Bill Barr have decided to decline prosecution.

John Solomon does say however that Comey still isn’t out of the weeds yet and faces legal jeopardy in the ongoing investigation into FISA abuse and the origins of Spygate by US Attorney John Durham.

Comey’s ‘Trump memos’ were supposedly classified after he gave them to his friend to leak to the New York Times — this technical violation is what the DOJ used as an excuse not to prosecute Comey.

How convenient. The FBI changed the classification on Comey’s memos after they were leaked…coincidence? We think not.

On Wednesday night John Solomon went on with Sean Hannity to discuss the criminal charges against fired FBI Chief James Comey.

John Solomon told Hannity: There is going to be a very damning report that is going to shame James Comey. This report will not show James Comey as a rule follower. He will be a rule breaker for the second time in a year. But the more important thing to watch Sean is the ongoing investigation by Bill Barr and what we know about the FISA. There’s a quote in my story that says they are discovering some very troubling information about the FISA process and EVERYONE INVOLVED including James Comey remains under significant scrutiny. But stay tuned to what we see this fall… He (James Comey) signed the first FISA. Listen, that’s is going to turn out to be a fraudulent or misleading FISA. So there’s a lot more to come.

Giggity.

Democrat Rep. Elijah Cummings Rejects Tour of HUD Facility in Baltimore

Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD) turned down an offer to tour a Housing and Urban Development (HUD) facility in Baltimore with HUD Secretary Ben Carson on Wednesday.

The agency extended an invitation on Tuesday but Cummings turned down the request.

When reporters asked Carson about why Cummings was not present at a press conference, he responded Cummings may have been absent due to a scheduling conflict but did not elaborate on why he skipped the tour.

Carson visited the Baltimore facility soon after a series of weekend tweets from President Donald Trump criticized Cummings for being a “brutal bully,” alleging his district was in disrepair because of his lack of oversight.

Cummings fired back, reportedly blaming racism and Trump for Baltimore’s problems.

While critics have called Trump’s remarks “racist,” not many people have been able to counter Trump’s claims about Baltimore’s corruption, high-murder rate, and rat problems.

“The government has been pumping billions of dollars to no avail. Baltimore is an example of what corrupt government leads to. … I feel so sorry for the people of Baltimore, if they ask me we will get involved,” Trump told a crowd of reporters Tuesday.

Analysis: Dem Candidates Call For More Than $200 Trillion in Spending

Democratic candidates for the 2020 nomination have promised more than $210 trillion in new spending across the field, analysis by the Washington Free Beacon shows.

Of the 26 declared candidates—including Rep. Eric Swalwell (D., Calif.) who dropped out earlier this month—most have put enormous new government programs front and center in their campaigns. Totaling up these proposals gives taxpaying voters a sense of the budget priorities of the average Democratic candidate.

That overall figure is an undercount, as it is based only on proposals for which the Free Beacon could identify actual spending estimates. The true figure is much larger. For example, Sen. Bernie Sanders’s (I., Vt.) Medicare for All proposal is included, while Sen. Kamala Harris’s (D., Calif.) is not, because no cost assessment for the latter could be identified.

Candidates will continue to roll out proposals in the months ahead, although the field is likely to winnow in that time as well.

Of the $210 trillion, the plurality—$94 trillion—is the estimated cost of a Green New Deal, which a number of candidates have backed in some form or another. The remaining $116 trillion—roughly six times the United States’s annual Gross Domestic Product—is spread across a variety of policy proposals, from Andrew Yang’s Universal Basic Income to Marianne Williamson’s call for $200 to $500 billion in reparations for slavery.

The Free Beacon largely employed the candidates’ own cost estimates for their proposals. However, the analysis also cited a nonpartisan study showing Yang’s proposed $12,000 income for all Americans would cost at least $30 trillion over the next decade; Yang claims it would cost $1.8 trillion a year.

Many of the proposals are spread out over 10 years, such as Joe Biden’s $750 billion public option health care plan, Sen. Elizabeth Warren’s (D., Mass.) $2 trillion investment in green research and manufacturing, and former HUD Secretary Julian Castro’s $970 billion plan for affordable housing.

Although Yang’s proposal is one of the larger ones offered, Sanders is the top prospective spender. His Medicare for All plan is expected to run around $32 trillion over the next 10 years—estimates vary—but on top of that, a Sanders administration would add trillions more in infrastructure spending, universal free college, and an ill-defined job guarantee.

More mainstream Democrats like Biden, former representative John Delaney (D., Md.), and Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D., N.Y.) are big spenders as well. All three make it to the top five because of their promises to spend enormous sums of money combatting climate change: $4 trillion, $5 trillion, and $10 trillion, respectively.

Billionaire Tom Steyer ($2.25 trillion) and Washington governor Jay Inslee ($9 trillion, $3 trillion in public spending) have also proposed 13-figure climate change proposals.

Overhauling education is another popular policy proposal, with candidates like Castro seeking to spend trillions of dollars on it. For some, like Warren and Miramar, Fla., mayor Wayne Messam, that includes voiding all student debt, even though some plans to do so would disproportionately benefit the well-off.
