MUELLER’S GOING DOWN: One of General Flynn’s New Attorneys Wrote the Book on Prosecutorial Ethics and Misconduct

Earlier this week it was widely reported that General Mike Flynn has hired well-known defense attorney Sidney Powell to represent him after abruptly firing his lawyers last week.

In a recent interview with The Epoch Times Sidney Powell blasted the appalling two-tiered judicial system in the United States today where General Michael Flynn can get set up and prosecuted by deep state operatives while Peter Strzok can leak and lie and get off scot free.

In December 2018 Powell accused the Mueller team of destroying evidence and obstructing justice in the Flynn case.

But General Flynn also hired several more attorneys besides Sidney Powell.

The team consists of new members — Jesse Binnall, Philip John Harvey & W. William Hodes, along with Sidney Powell — to represent him in his ongoing case.

These attorneys have entered notices of appearance in the EDVA case against Flynn’s former business partner where Flynn is expected to testify.

W. William Hodes is the author of “Law and Lawyering” a nationally recognized treatise on legal ethics that is updated annually. Hodes was a member of the Advisory Council to the American Bar Association’s Ethics 2000 Commission.

This should keep Robert Mueller and his far left “pitbull” Andrew Weissmann up at night.

The boomerang is coming folks.

Watch: U.S. Video Shows Iran Military Recovering Mine from Oil Tanker in Gulf of Oman

The U.S. military has released video it says shows Iran’s Revolutionary Guard taking an unexploded mine from the hull of one of two oil tankers attacked in the Gulf of Oman. Tehran hit back, accusing the U.S. of waging an “Iranophobic campaign.”

The Japanese-owned Kokuka Courageous and the Norwegian-owned Front Altair were attacked early Thursday morning. Both vessels suffered explosions, forcing crews to abandon ship and leave them adrift in waters between Gulf Arab states and Iran.

Secretary of State Michael Pompeo said the United States has assessed that Iran is responsible for the attacks and U.S. Central Command confirmed the details.

Centcom spokesman Lt. Col. Earl Brown said the U.S. Navy had responded immediately to the initial threat in the Gulf of Oman:

U.S. Naval Forces in the region received two separate distress calls at 6:12a.m. local time and a second one at 7:00 a.m. U.S. Naval Forces Central Command received the calls from the M/V Front Altair and M/V Kokuka Courageous, who were operating in international waters of the Gulf of Oman.

USS Bainbridge (DDG 96) was operating in the vicinity and provided immediate assistance to the M/V Kokuka Courageous. Twenty-one mariners from the M/V Kokuka Courageous, who abandoned ship, are currently aboard USS Bainbridge. A Navy P-8 is also providing support.

Iran has rejected the U.S. accusation against it as “baseless”. In a tweet posted early Friday, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif accused the U.S. of “immediately” jumping to make allegations against Tehran without “a shred of factual or circumstantial evidence”.

The attack made it “abundantly clear that the #B_Team is moving to a #PlanB: Sabotage diplomacy — including by @AbeShinzo — and cover up its #EconomicTerrorism against Iran”.

Zarif regularly uses the term “B Team” to refer to U.S. National Security Advisor John Bolton as well as Israel’s prime minister, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. Thursday’s attack occured while Japanse Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was in Iran seeking to defuse tensions between Washington and the Islamic Republic.

Thursday’s attack resembled a similar operation in May targeting four oil tankers off the nearby Emirati port of Fujairah. U.S. officials similarly accused Iran of targeting the ships with limpet mines, which are magnetic and attach to the hulls of a ship. The mines disable, but don’t sink, a vessel.

The U.N. Security Council held closed consultations on the tanker incidents late Thursday at the request of the United States but took no action.

FIRE: Sex Jokes on Campus Could Land You in Jail Under Proposed Texas Law

A new bill moving forward in the Texas legislature could possibly criminalize sex jokes on campus, according to FIRE. The organization devoted to free speech on campus also expects a flood of “unmeritorious complaints” to Title IX offices at universities in the state.

According to an analysis by the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE), Texas state bill SB 212 may include an unconstitutional violation of the First Amendment right to freedom of speech.

“The absurd result of this legislation would be that, if the proposed regulations become final, faculty and staff at Texas’s universities could be sent to prison for failing to report speech and conduct that does not even constitute sexual harassment according to the federal agency responsible for enforcing Title IX on campus,” FIRE wrote in a blog post.

The primary purpose of the bill is to punish university administrators who fail to properly report sexual harassment and misconduct. Under the bill, those that fail to properly report these crimes could face criminal prosecution themselves.

FIRE also fears the bill, if passed, would lead to an avalanche of frivolous Title IX reports, including reports made solely because of a joke.

Enacting these provisions into law will force employees — including university faculty — to over-report, lest they risk a jail sentence, fine, and/or termination. This in turn will flood institutional Title IX offices with unmeritorious complaints, including instances of speech plainly protected by the First Amendment or institutional promises of freedom of expression. Sifting through this avalanche will squander institutional resources that could be far better devoted to pursuing serious complaints intentionally brought to the attention of Title IX officers.

The Texas Senate passed the bill at the end of March. It is now awaiting approval from the Texas House of Representatives. Some activists are now calling on Texas Governor Greg Abbott to veto the bill to protect free expression.

Former Trump official explains how ‘deepfake’ videos pose a very real threat to American sovereignty

There’s a been a lot of discussion of fraudulent “deepfake” videos on the internet over the last few weeks. One Trump official says the intricate hoaxes are more  than just fodder for fake news; they can be a problem for our national security.

On a recent episode of BlazeTV’s “America with Eric Bolling,” former DHS Deputy Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs Lauren Claffey explained that the technology allowing for the creation of completely fake videos of public figures “is advancing so quickly that I think lawmakers and private citizens are very concerned that we don’t have the capabilities and also just the awareness to combat it appropriately.”

Deepfakes are a growing trend in internet content wherein software is used to create incredibly lifelike video of people saying just about anything. One recently popular video shows actor Bill Hader’s face slowly morphing into Arnold Schwarzenegger’s. Another shows “Game of Thrones” character Jon Snow apologizing for the show’s widely panned final season.

But these videos aren’t just entertaining. Claffey also explained, “The altered videos are so real now that it can be used for blackmail, it can be used to spread misinformation, [policy makers are] very concerned with foreign actors using it.”

Claffey and Bolling discussed the effects that elaborate hoax videos could have, especially on misinformation during the course of United States elections.

“Can you imagine what you could do with a politician who’s maybe on the cusp of becoming a nominee?” Bolling asked. “You could ruin a whole election.”

While there is some technology available to detect fraudulent video, the “only real” solution to this problem for now, Claffey explained, is “better awareness,” even when it comes to legislation addressing the issue. Bottom line: People need to be more discerning of the information they come across on social media.

It would seem that the rise of these “deepfakes” lends a little credence to the hyperbolic line attributed to Edgar Alan Poe: “Believe nothing you hear, and only one half that you see.”
