Holy Biblegate! Trump signs Bibles in Alabama, critics pounce

President Trump and Melania went to Alabama Friday to survey tornado damage and comfort those suffering in the aftermath. The President and First Lady do quite a good job of that sort of thing. Unfortunately, they have been getting lots of practice dealing with victims of natural disasters. That’s not good enough for the folks looking for any excuse to criticize the First Couple. They both signed some Bibles, handed to them by local people in Alabama, and faux outrage on social media commenced.

President Donald Trump signed Bibles for survivors of the Alabama tornado that killed 23 people during a visit of the disaster area on Friday.

During his visit five days after the storm hit, Trump met with state and leaders and assessed the damage for himself in Beauregard. He also met with the families of tornado victims, including Marshall Lynn Grimes, who died alongside his fiance.

Prior to being on the ground, Trump took an aerial tour of the devastation after landing at Fort Benning.

“I saw this and it’s hard to believe,” Trump said. “You saw things that you wouldn’t believe.”

After surveying the storm’s damage, President Trump and Melania stopped at a church with Alabama Governor Kay Ivey. Crosses were set up in memory of the victims and the Trumps stood before each and read the names. Then they went inside the church which serves as a shelter and distribution center for donations. As happens, a crowd gathered to see the president and maybe get an autograph. One 12-year-old boy came forward with a Bible for Trump to autograph. I’ll remind you that they were standing in a church and no doubt there were few options of items for the president to autograph.

The impromptu autographing by Trump began innocently enough. Trump was responding to a child. Melania signed some too. He signed his name on the cover of the Bibles. He wasn’t playfully spiking them to the onlookers as he did with the paper towels that one time. So while our betters in the media made certain to play up the bible signing, religious leaders didn’t think it was any big deal. It may be odd but it’s not heresy.

Hershael York, dean of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary School of Theology in Louisville, Kentucky, said he didn’t have a problem with Trump signing Bibles, like former presidents have, because he was asked and because it was important to the people who were asking.

“Though we don’t have a national faith, there is faith in our nation, and so it’s not at all surprising that people would have politicians sign their Bibles,” he said. “Those Bibles are meaningful to them and apparently these politicians are, too.”

The people in that church were mostly Trump supporters. They were happy he was there. It’s common that President Trump is criticized or mocked on social media. All presidents come under scrutiny by their opponents and in the case of President Trump, the press is part of that opposition. I just don’t remember this exaggerated reporting when other presidents signed Bibles.

Look at this reaction from someone who wasn’t there and I’d bet not a Trump supporter, either.

But the Rev. Donnie Anderson, executive minister of the Rhode Island State Council of Churches, said she was offended by the way Trump scrawled his signature Friday as he autographed Bibles and other things, including hats, and posed for photos. She viewed it, she said, as a “calculated political move” by the Republican president to court his evangelical voting base.

“For me, the Bible is a very important part of my faith, and I don’t think it should be used as a political ploy,” she said. “I saw it being used just as something out there to symbolize his support for the evangelical community, and it shouldn’t be used in that way. People should have more respect for Scripture.”

York said that he, personally, would not ask a politician to sign a Bible, but that he has been asked to sign Bibles after he preaches. It feels awkward, he said, but he doesn’t refuse.

“If it’s meaningful to them to have signatures in their Bible, I’m willing to do that,” he said.

Sure, a critic can make a political connection but so what? When someone asks a politician for an autograph, they are doing so because the person’s fame is in the political world. The President of the United States is president of all Americans, however, and not just the evangelicals with which Rev. Anderson seems to have a problem. A presidential autograph is a historical keepsake. The “but politics” criticism is just petty. He was doing what he could do to comfort Americans in their time of need.

And then there’s the critic who was quoted complaining not only that President Trump signed Bibles but where on the Bible he signed. The minister even brought a straw man into the argument – it could show that Trump was not only violating the separation of church and state but that he favors Christianity. That’s some over-thinking of a simple gesture, if you ask me.

Trump should have at least signed inside in a less ostentatious way, said the Rev. Dr. Kevin Cassiday-Maloney.

“It just felt like hubris,” said Cassiday-Maloney, pastor at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Fargo, North Dakota. “It almost felt like a desecration of the holy book to put his signature on the front writ large, literally.”

He doesn’t think politicians should sign Bibles, he said, because it could be seen as a blurring of church and state and an endorsement of Christianity over other religions.

I’m guessing that the folks in Alabama don’t really give a rip what clergy in Rhode Island and North Dakota have to say about the matter.

Left-leaning Slate actually brought a bit of historical context to presidential autographs.

Atten may have been shocked by the move, but it isn’t as odd as you might think. The Post talked to Peter Manseau, the Smithsonian’s curator of religion, who said many past presidents have signed Bibles, including President Barack Obama. And it’s not like Trump was handing out stacks of signed bibles, but rather, he was doing what some people asked of him. “Presidents seem to sign a lot of random things put in front of them,” Manseau added.

Manseau notes that Presidents Reagan and George W. Bush signed Bibles, too.

Maybe everyone should just take a breath now and then. If a trip to comfort tornado survivors by the president sets you off, maybe a little quiet contemplation is in order.

Wow! Deep State FBI Offers New Fitness App — That Spies on Your Location and Downloads Your Stored Information

In February the FBI started offering a new fitness app that “takes you to the next level.”

The FBI advertised their app as an informative and interactive way to track your fitness routine.

They even published a video to promote the new app.

What they didn’t tell you is that the new FBI app will spy on your location and download your stored information.

Joe Cunningham did not fall for their spin.

When blue state travel bans have real world impact

Did you hear the latest about the travel ban? No… not the President’s temporary ban on immigration from a number of majority-Muslim nations. I’m talking about New York’s ban on official travel to North Carolina. Governor Cuomo put the ban in place in 2016 in response to the Tar Heel State’s efforts to stop men from using the women’s bathrooms, locker rooms and showers and it’s not yet been repealed. It was initially described as a ban on “official travel” for state employees, but the rule affected more people than state government workers.

The ban also applied to travel by anyone using state funds. This included students at State University of New York (SUNY) campuses. That’s now become a serious issue because a number of members of the swimming and diving teams at SUNY Geneseo qualified for the national championships this year. The problem is that they’re being held in Greensboro, North Carolina. Cuomo initially said that they couldn’t go at all, but recent developments have made the question more complicated. (Democrat and Chronicle)

Cuomo implemented a state travel ban to North Carolina in 2016 in response to the state’s controversial “bathroom bill.” With the championships being held in Greensboro, that presented the 10 qualifying student-athletes from Geneseo with a dilemma, and the community has responded.

On Tuesday, Geneseo alumni and former divers launched a GoFundMe “designed to secure the necessary funds to allow these athletes to stay within a reasonable distance to the championship venue.”

On Friday morning, the fundraiser had already raised $6,000, surpassing the original goal of $4,000. Organizers are hoping that these privately-raised funds will allow the swim team to stay at hotels in Greensboro as opposed to staying more than an hour away in Virginia.

These students bust their butts training all year long and competing for a chance like this. Cuomo’s initial instinct was to forbid them from attending entirely. After the inevitable pushback, his “compromise” isn’t all that much better. The teams raised their own money for the travel expenses, but now the Governor is saying that they can only go and spend that money if they stay at a hotel in Virginia, meaning there’s an extra hour of commuting time every day, to and from the event.

Yes, that’s right. Virginia is the state where the top three elected officials are all under fire for either racism (blackface photos) or alleged sexual assault. But Cuomo would rather see the money that didn’t even come from the government’s coffers going there than to some hotel in Greensboro. So what’s the message that’s being sent and who is being punished here? This isn’t a swipe at the government of North Carolina, but to the hotel where the students would stay and any other businesses in the Greensboro area where the team might spend some money.

And, of course, it’s a punishment to the diving and swimming teams. Having to get up an hour earlier and get back an hour later each day is obviously going to impact their training and preparation schedules as they prepare to compete in the national championships. And all for what? Just to show that a Democrat like Andrew Cuomo can pull off a travel ban better than President Trump?

Flee New York if you get the opportunity. I’m definitely already looking into it. The state is a hopeless pit of liberal-driven despair at this point.

STUNNING ADMISSION: Freshman Dem Lawmaker Admits Standing Against Anti-Semitism is “Not the Priority” of the Entire Caucus (VIDEO)

Rep. Katie Hill (D-CA) joined squish Chris Wallace FOX News Sunday to discuss the New Democrat Party.

Hill represents California’s 25th district near Los Angeles a district that was held by Republicans since 1993 before she won in 2018. Hill benefited from California’s vote harvesting conducted by illegal immigrants.

When asked on Sunday about Rep. Ilhan Omar’s anti-Semitic remarks, Rep. Katie Hill assured Fox News’s Chris Wallace that being anti-Semitic is not the priority of the “entire” Democrat caucus.

The Democrat openly admitted that not all Democrats think the same way on anti-Semitism.
This was a stunning admission.

INSANE VIDEO! Democratic Socialism In AOC’s Own Words: We Don’t Want To Take Over EVERY Form Of Production – We Just Want To Tell Every Workplace How To Operate

Guest post by Bright Start News

Rep Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez retweeted herself again, and this one is for the record books.

Watch as she explains Democratic Socialism. I’ve taken the liberty of transcribing it below for closer examination.

Ocasio-Cortez: Ya know just as there’s all this fear mongering that government is going to take over every corporation and government is going to take over every business or every form of production, um, we should be scared right now because corporations have taken over our government.

And in my opinion, we should be weary of any entity in which both of those things are combined, whether it’s through one way or the other. Um, and that’s why the emphasis in Democratic Socialism is on duhmocracy. And it’s not about, you know, it, it’s, it’s just as much a transformation about bringing duhmocracy to the workplace so that we have a say, and that we don’t check all of our rights at the door every time we cross the threshold into our workplace. Because at the end of the day as workers and as people in society, we’re the ones creating wealth. Not a corporate CEO. It’s not a CEO that’s actually creating four billion dollars a year. It is the millions of workers in this country that’s creating billions of dollars of economic productivity a year. And our system should reflect that.

Let’s deconstruct this–

Right out of the gate, she describes opposition to Democratic Socialism as “fear mongering” and without skipping a beat, tells us “we should be scared right now because corporations have taken over out government.” Who’s the fear monger again?

Like a broken clock, AOC gets something right when she says, “We should be weary of any entity in which both of those things (corporations and government) are combined” but then she pulls an immediate u-turn with this bit of insanity, “it’s just as much a transformation about bringing duhmocracy to the workplace.”

There should be exactly as much “duhmocracy” in the workplace as the owners decide they want/need in order to foster the environment they – as OWNERS OF PRIVATE PROPERTY, GOODS, AND SERVICES – deem necessary to remain profitable. What AOC is describing is literally the very definition of a marriage between the govt and corporations in order to regulate what people can and can’t do with their private property/business/investments. I’m certain there’s a name for that style of government but it escapes me at the moment.

LAST – AOC takes credit for “billions of dollars of economic productivity a year” on behalf of “workers” (as though CEOs don’t work).

She must be unaware that America’s GDP is just a bit higher than that.

That’s okay. She was only off by $20.5 trillion give or take. She’s still learning. Representing is hard.

Washington Post Gives Clinton Four Pinocchios For Claim About Wisconsin Voter Suppression…

They tend not to vote for you when you don’t show up for them. Via Washington Post: Clinton claimed 40,000 to 80,000 Wisconsinites were turned away at the polls because of their skin color, age or “whatever excuse” in 2016. This matters because President Trump won Wisconsin by a narrow 22,748 votes. So this speech […]
