When it comes to “hate crimes” investigations, some victims are more equal than others.

Any American who’s watched the parade of overblown, extremely questionable, or outright fraudulent reports of “hate crimes” since President Donald Trump took office knows the mainstream media has displayed its interest in building national hysteria if alleged crimes fit the liberal narrative.

But when the victims and suspects aren’t the stuff of liberal stereotypes? The treatment isn’t anywhere near the same.

The latest incident to show the trend took place last week in New York, where a clearly disturbed individual is accused of a series of attacks apparently targeting victims based race – and the suspect is a transgender “of color,” as the liberals say today.

According Fox News, 37-year-old Thomas J. Heard – whom the report described as a “transgender woman” – is in custody, suspected of a series of assaults on apparent strangers.

According to WABC, Heard was arrested about 4:30 p.m. Friday after threatening a woman with a sharp object.

After Heard was in custody, she became a suspect in several other attacks earlier in the day, including one where she kicked a stranger, identified by WABC as Denise Gannaway.

“All of a sudden, I hear this woman yell at me from behind, ‘I hate you, you expletive expletive!’” Gannaway told WABC.

After Gannaway screamed for her boyfriend for help, the attacker chased both of them, WABC reported.

“I saw her pull something out of her pocket. I didn’t know if it was a gun, I didn’t know if it was a knife – I didn’t know what she had,” she added.

“She says ‘I’m gonna pepper spray you’ and she came around and she actually got me across my face,” Gannaway’s boyfriend, Joe Barbuto, told WABC.

She then followed Barbuto around a corner “and then she pepper sprayed him in the eye. He ran after her,” Gannaway told the station.

Before the attack on Gannaway and Barbuto, Fox reported, police suspect Heard was involved in another incident in which an attacker sprayed a man with a pepper-spray like substance in a subway station, then ran into the street and sprayed five more people.

All of the victims in the case were white.

“Heard was charged with assault as a hate crime, menacing as a hate crime, harassment as a hate crime and assault with criminal possession of a weapon,” WABC reported.

It’s important to remember that Heard is innocent until proven guilty. It’s also important to consider that there’s a strong likelihood of mental illness playing a role in these incidents.

But it’s just as important to note that this story has gotten minimal media attention, and it’s impossible to think that the race and sexuality of the accused – black and transgender – and the race of the victims – all white – does not play a role in that.

If the races had been reversed, there’s no question this story would have been treated differently.

The talking heads on CNN would ascribe it all to yet more racial hatred unleashed by the Trump presidency. MSNBC would have been in overdrive with it all weekend.

Every one of the 7,654 Democrats currently seeking the presidential nomination would likely have been holding grandstanding news conferences and publishing fiery tweets to denounce the rampant racism of the Trump era.

But it was just white people being assaulted, and the suspect is a black transgender. And the media shrugs.

Clearly when it comes to “hate crimes” and the mainstream media, some victims are more equal than others.

We have repeated this information from our prior reports to re-iterate that, although much operational progress has been accomplished during 2018, the persistent deficit levels suggest that the challenge of restoring financial health continues.

Rep. Ilhan Omar may be a loathsome anti-Semite who is able to get away with murder because her party is willing to stand behind her since she’s one of them, but at least she recognizes when other Democrats get the same treatment.

In an interview with Politico Magazine that appeared as the firestorm over her remarks implying that certain elements of American Jewry have dual loyalties, Rep. Omar criticized former President Obama for pursuing policies that the Democrats abhor and getting away with it because the party was willing to countenance it.

“By the time she ran for office in 2016, knocking off a 22-term incumbent to win a seat in the Minnesota statehouse, Omar was fed up — not so much with Trumpism, or with politics in general, as with the Democratic Party,” the article read.

“As she saw it, the party ostensibly committed to progressive values had become complicit in perpetuating the status quo. Omar says the “hope and change” offered by Barack Obama was a mirage,” it continued.

“Recalling the ‘caging of kids’ at the U.S.-Mexico border and the ‘droning of countries around the world’ on Obama’s watch, she argues that the Democratic president operated within the same fundamentally broken framework as his Republican successor.”

“We can’t be only upset with Trump,” Omar told Politico.

“His policies are bad, but many of the people who came before him also had really bad policies. They just were more polished than he was,” she continued.

“And that’s not what we should be looking for anymore. We don’t want anybody to get away with murder because they are polished. We want to recognize the actual policies that are behind the pretty face and the smile.”

The irony, I believe, was lost on Rep. Omar.

Whether it was lost on writer Tim Alberta, who spends a fair amount of time discussing the identity politics of Rep. Omar and her “mistakes” (particularly regarding members of the Jewish faith, in regard to Israel or not) is anyone’s guess, but I’d probably say no.

For starters, one could possibly detect a bit of dry humor in the parentheticals as Alberta recounted Omar’s numerous faux pas.

“First, Omar tweeted that Lindsey Graham had been ‘compromised,’ suggesting that his support for Trump — whom he’d verbally mauled throughout the 2016 campaign — owed to blackmail collected on the South Carolina senator. (Conservatives accused Omar of playing on the long-running, unsubstantiated insinuation that Graham is gay; she denied this, but apologized.),” he wrote.

“Then, after being seated on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Omar was lampooned for a 2012 tweet in which she wrote during an Israeli military campaign in the Gaza Strip, ‘Israel has hypnotized the world, may Allah awaken the people and help them see the evil doings of Israel.’ (Omar later apologized and deleted the tweet; she claimed ignorance of the anti-Semitic trope that conceives of Jewish hypnosis.)

“Finally, in early February, after just over a month on the job, Omar made the jump from occasional agitator to permanent lightning rod. Arguing that U.S. lawmakers back Israel because of campaign donations from Jewish donors, the congresswoman tweeted, ‘It’s all about the Benjamins baby,’ a reference to $100 bills.”

Unfortunately for Alberta, this wasn’t quite so “finally” — this was before the dual loyalties remark. However, it’s an interesting study in what the Democrats are willing to forgive. Even though he claimed “(t)he entire House Democratic leadership denounced Omar, forcing yet another apology,” he doesn’t note any actual substantive action against Omar.

That’s because there wasn’t any. Nor was there this time. When leadership attempted to take substantive action by attempting to pass the mildest of resolutions condemning anti-Semitic tropes and implying — but not naming — Rep. Omar as the motivator behind said resolution, the substantive action turned into a meaningless anti-hate resolution instead, one that Omar didn’t seem all too displeased with:

And thus we circle back to Barack Obama. No, he isn’t an open anti-Semite, but he often did the same things his party is now howling mad that the Republicans are doing — and often worse, in the case of those “caged children” at the border — and got away with it because he was a Democrat.

It’s all about the party affiliation, baby. That’s why Ilhan Omar is still a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and her “punishment” consisted of a not-too-stern collective lecture and a hope that she’ll grow from these latest remarks. The same way that every time this has happened in the past few months, she has gotten the same “punishment” and everyone hoped for growth. There’s a definition of insanity I once heard that reminded me of that strategy somewhat.

Yet, here’s the kicker: This has the potential to anger as many people in the Democrat Party as her statements on the Jewish people, simply because she’s pointing out the truth about Barack Obama.

Perhaps Omar recognizes another individual who can get away with just about anything. Or perhaps she just recognizes the obvious.

Either way, her behavior may be horrible in general, but she’s not wrong in this particular circumstance.

Students at a Layton, Utah, high school were expecting a special speaker on Monday. And they got one, all right: a beloved teacher returning from a deployment to Afghanistan.

According to ABC News’ “Good Morning America,” Andrew Olson is a captain in the Army National Guard who also teaches and coaches at Northridge High in the Utah town.

“With being a teacher, coach and in the military, he lives to serve others,” Olson’s wife, Tina, said of the basketball and football coach.

“He gets the most pride and excitement when he helps people accomplish something,” she said.”

You could tell when he entered the classroom he’d certainly helped a few people accomplish something.

This was the reaction when the students realized they were getting Olson, fresh from Afghanistan, instead of a random guest speaker.

Andrew Tanner, who was in the video, said there was “a moment of disbelief” followed by a “huge wave of excitement” once they realized who it was.

“He’s taught me so much about hard work and commitment,” Tanner told GMA. “He showed that he really cared about my team and their success.

“He set a great example by committing to serve our country.”

While the students were happy to see him, Tina said her husband might have been just as happy to see them.

“He loves them,” she told GMA. “They’re like his little brothers or kids.

“He’s a tough coach, very stern and expects a lot, but I think it helps the kids respect him because they know he does it from love.”

“I know I married him, but he really is amazing,” she added. “He’s a great guy, best dad and sexy husband.”

We’ve seen plenty of footage out there of teachers being mistreated by students (and, quite frankly, teachers who can’t command respect).

Andrew Olson clearly isn’t one of them. A simple glance at that video and you realize this is a man who’s earned that welcome.

He didn’t just earn it by serving in Afghanistan, mind you, although that would be enough. He earned it by going above and beyond in how he teaches these kids — not just about academics, basketball or football, but about life.

As for the kids themselves, their welcome is also worthy of praise. Talk about a hero’s reception. It’s enough to restore your faith in our beloved country.

Our hats are off to you, Captain Olson. You deserve your moment of viral fame and a whole lot more.
