Residents of Small US Town Send Grave Warning After Governor Claims Border Crisis Doesn’t Exist

When New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham visited the United States’ southern border, she couldn’t be happier.

During a trip to southern New Mexico earlier this year, the Democratic leader proudly proclaimed, “I haven’t seen anything to indicate that we have an emerging crisis here at the border,” according to the Great Falls Tribune.

She might have had a different perspective had she gone farther west in the state.

Residents of the unincorporated community of Hachita, in the southwest corner of New Mexico, live with the realities of the border crisis every day. As the last vestige of civilization before Highway 81 ends at a border entry point, the town has become a hub for illegal immigration.

Every noise now has the potential to leave residents on edge. Some even hear people talking outside of their houses, a terrifying prospect in such a remote area.

“I’ve heard stuff and it makes me wonder. I don’t want to look outside, because you never what’s outside your window,” retiree Bonnie Denzler told the Tribune. “It’s really disconcerting because you don’t know what’s going on.”

She also has a pointed message for the governor.

“She needs to come down here to this area — to see how wide open it is and how easy it is for people to jump the fence. People need to see what’s down here and that it’s not as safe as they’re spouting it is,” Denzler said.

The border crossing in New Mexico appears to be relatively easy, prompting groups of over 100 to make the trek. More than 26 of these groups have been apprehended since last October.

Do you think we need a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border?

Border Patrol officials say many of the illegals coming over in mass numbers are trying to get caught.

Once arrested, groups are taken to a Border Patrol station. There, they are likely to receive unfettered access to water, food and health care. Safely away from the harsh terrain and desert climate, they then begin the process of applying for asylum.

Amanda Adame, the owner of a 24,000-acre ranch, said not all of those passing through the area are harmless asylum seekers. After spotting armed men dressed entirely in camouflage milling around one of her water tanks, she said she became worried the gunmen would follow her home.

“By the time they get to my house,” Adame told the Tribune, “the Border Patrol is not going to catch them. There’s too much space.”

The sparse population and wide open spaces of southern New Mexico lend the illegals a natural advantage, leaving Border Patrol officers scrambling to cover a vast area with limited staff and funding.

Abandoned buildings, which the town has plenty of, act as rest areas for those illegally crossing the southern border. This has prompted many in Hachita to get dogs. This only goes so far, however.

With groups numbering over 100 illegals common, even the most routine of smuggling operations outnumbers the town’s double-digit population.

A tall and strong border wall wouldn’t only help the citizens of Hachita — it could mean the difference between life and death.

Democrats Are Moving The Goal Posts — More And More Getting Closer To A Wall

Nancy Pelosi hardest hit. Via Daily Caller: Democratic members have increasingly expressed support for a physical barrier on the U.S.-Mexico border over the course of immigration negotiations, making it harder for party leaders to ignore their positions. TED MALLOCH: The State of Our Union

TED MALLOCH: The State of Our Union

The State of Our Union

Ted Malloch, coauthor of America’s Spiritual Capital

On January 29th President Trump was supposed to go to Congress and deliver his annual State of the Union speech.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi tried to cancel it but he would have none of that, so she disinvited him until the shutdown is over.

Now it is over but it is not yet scheduled.

Why?

He should have played her for what she is a loser and a petty person and given the address on his time and at a place of his choosing.

It would behoove him to either give that constitutionally described and mandated address in the US Senate chambers or in another State capital.

Why let Pelosi and the radical Dems control and box him in?

In that address he could outline where we have come and where we will go under his leadership this coming year.

It is precisely what all Presidents’ are called to do.

He should take a bow for what has been accomplished and also signal how much more he hopes to achieve in the year ahead.
Few Presidents have been so productive.

This next year and then the (re) election in 2020 is a critical and historic crossroads and we desperately need his strong leadership.

We need it on a range of policies and also as importantly, in spirit.

America is a center-right polity and the modern exemplar of the Judeo-Christian heritage of spiritual capital.

Trump realizes this truth. He should say so, loud and clear.

Let me present two theses in this regard and demonstrate what they mean for this president’s leadership.

He should deploy them and take the high ground.

The first thesis concerns the logic of modernity.

What distinguishes modernity is the Technological Project, the transformation of nature for human betterment as opposed to fatalistic conformity.

The technological project requires inner-directed individuals and free market economies that maximize both competition and innovation.

Trump confesses this, too.

Say so loud and clear for the country to hear, not just his base.

Free market economies operate best with limited government (Montesquieu’s commercial republic and Madison’s Federalist #10).

Limited government can only be maintained under the rule of law.

The rule of law can only be sustained if there is a larger cultural context that celebrates responsible individual autonomy.

Finally, responsible individual autonomy presupposes a larger ontological claim about human freedom or free will that requires a theological argument.

Moreover, personal autonomy avoids self-destruction and adds a spiritual content to the technological project itself when the responsible use of freedom leads to helping to fulfill God’s plan by eliminating suffering and promoting freedom in and for others.

Recognizing, pursuing, and sustaining autonomy are the spiritual quests of modernity and the technological project, which is best, evidenced, in the on-going American experiment.

The ultimate rationale for the technological project is not material comfort or consumer satisfaction, but the production of the means of accomplishment.

To discover that our greatest sense of fulfillment comes from freely imposing order on ourselves in order to impose a creative order on the world is perhaps the closest way of coming to know purpose.

Three considerations lead us to maintain that responsible personal autonomy requires deep support.

First, personal autonomy presupposes free will.

This amounts to saying that there is no naturalistic (and scientific) explanation of the ultimate truths about who we are.

Second, we understand ourselves as historical beings, but history does not form a self-explanatory system.

Our interpretation of the whole human drama depends on an intimately personal decision concerning the part we mean to play in it.

In the end, this is a religious decision, not a scientific or scholarly one.

Trump needs to connect with the religious communities in America. Underscore pluralism and freedom of conscience—the pillars of America

Finally, sustaining our autonomy under trying circumstances requires stamina. Since naturalism and scientism fail, spirituality in some important sense emerges as the only discipline that can provide ultimate comprehension.

Trump can regain ground by calling on America’s spirit.

The second thesis is the documented history of how settlers, pioneers and immigrants to the United States brought precisely this larger view to America, nourished it, and sustained it.

Trump again needs to restate America’s journey with destiny.

The most important historical development in the last four hundred years has been the rise of the technological project (TP).

The TP, not the market, is the starting point for our American narrative, because, although there have always been markets, it is only since the 17th century that markets have come to play such a dominant role in our lives.

It is the presence of the TP that explains the centrality of those markets.

The TP is the control of nature for human benefit.

The TP radically changed the way people in the West viewed the world and their relationship to the world; and led to fundamental changes in the major institutions of the West (economic, political, legal, and social); which led to the expansion of the West and its domination of the non-Western world, and finally to the internationalization of Western institutions.

The following claims with regard to the TP can be made:

a. It is an irreversible historical fact [Protester’s are forced to use technology in order to mount a protest against it, especially cell phones, the internet, and computers].
b. Abandonment of the TP would have catastrophic consequences for humanity and threaten its very existence.
c. To the extent that the TP creates environmental and other kinds of problems we are now irrevocably committed to using future developments in the TP to address and hopefully solve those problems.

d. Those cultures which have most fully embraced the TP (including military technology) have come to dominate the world and to spread the TP. The spread has not been a matter of the powerful imposing on the weak; the weak have largely come to embrace the project on their own.
e. The thorny issues of globalization would not have developed outside of the context of the technological project.

This leads to the following tension and paradox which Trump should underscore: domestically the government is to maintain a low profile and fairly passive supporting role for commerce but in the international context the government is to promote actively the entire panoply of the Technological Project, Free Market Economies, Limited Government, and the Rule of Law.

To intervene in foreign affairs to bring about this result is incumbent upon free governments.

It is no use pretending that the implications could be otherwise. But Trump is not a neocon interventionist, so he needs to say how American power will be used and who will pay for it.

Our American President abides by and within the established heritage of America’s long established spiritual capital.

He cannot deny it, reject it, or pretend it away. It is our legacy.

The democratic ideal of ‘interventionist socialism’ we have toyed with over recent years, now front and center in the Democrat party, surely must come to an end, as it is totally at odds with the essence of America’s spiritual capital.

President Trump fully needs to articulate America’s spiritual capital in all the senses here described.

In my opinion, Trump is the leader we need to not only endorse but to pray for.

All of us, not just conservatives, need to rally behind him now.

He alone has the business acumen; he alone has the executive experience; he alone articulates all of the necessary ingredients here spelled out.

He understands the Technological Project, the free economy of markets, the rule of law and the limits to government.

He is making America greater and putting it first.

We desperately need a leader, one in America’s best spiritual tradition, to get us through the current malaise and economic chaos.

But make no mistake, he is under attack and so is America.

We should support our President and use the framework here laid out to inform that support for a stronger Union

In so doing we will also increase the legacy of America’s spiritual capital and renew its spirit.

Exclusive–Angel Mom: Kamala Harris’ Staff Threatened to Call Capitol Police When Angel Families Visited Her Office

Angel Mom Maureen Maloney, the vice president of Advocates for Victims of Illegal Alien Crime (AVIAC), says Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA)’s staff threatened to call Capitol Police when Angel Families visited her Senate office in Washington, DC, this month.

Maloney — whose 23 years-old son, Matthew Denice, was killed in August 2011 by an illegal alien who ran over him while drunk driving without a license — told SiriusXM Patriot’s Breitbart News Tonight that the staff of Democrat 2020 presidential candidate Sen. Kamala Harris threatened to call Capitol Police when Angel Families visited the offices of prominent House and Senate Democrats to discuss illegal alien crime.

Meanwhile, Maloney told Breitbart News Senior Editors-at-Large Rebecca Mansour and Joel Pollak that Harris makes it known that illegal aliens are welcome in her office.

“So we went past her office about two weeks ago, we were in D.C. to see … Pelosi and Senator Chuck Schumer, and Kamala Harris, in front of her office, has a big welcome sign in Spanish that says ‘Dreamers Are Welcome,’” Maloney said.

MANSOUR: Were you welcome?

MALONEY: No, in fact two of the people I was with, they threatened to call Capitol Police on them if they didn’t leave.

MANSOUR: Kamala Harris’ staff threatened to call the police on you?

MALONEY: Yes.

Listen to Maloney’s full interview here:

In her 2020 presidential campaign kickoff speech in Oakland, California, Harris portrayed herself as an advocate for crime victims and thanked illegal aliens for visiting lawmakers in Washington, D.C.

You see, in our system of justice, we believe that harm against any one of us is harm against all of us. That’s why when we file a case, it’s not filed in the name of the victim. It reads, “The People.” This is a point I have often explained to console and counsel survivors of crime, people who faced great harm. Often at the hands of someone they trust – be it a relative or a bank or a big corporation. I would remind them. You are not invisible. We all stand together. [Emphasis added]

During the health care fight, I saw parents and children with grave illnesses walk the halls of the United States Congress, families who had traveled across the country at incredible sacrifice. They came to our nation’s capital believing that if their stories were heard, and if they were seen, their leaders would do the right thing. I saw the same thing with our Dreamers. They came by the thousands. By plane, train, and automobile. I’m sure they were sleeping ten-deep on someone’s living room floor. [Emphasis added]

Maloney said it is illegal aliens who have the upper hand against their American victims, not only when it comes to trying to speak with lawmakers, but also in the court system.

“Illegal aliens are treated with such leniency compared to American citizens. It’s really sickening what goes on in the courts,” Maloney said.

Harris and other elected Democrat lawmakers are “absolutely not” working on behalf of illegal alien crime victims, Maloney said, noting that she and other Angel Families have been unable to meet with Democrats about the immigration issue for years.

“My senators up here, Sen. Markey and Sen. Warren, I’ve tried for years to get an appointment to meet with them. They’re unable to meet with people here in Massachusetts and down in Washington,” Maloney said. “When I’ve been down in Washington to meet with Democrat leaders, they’re not available. Members of AVIAC have been trying to meet with Nancy Pelosi as long as we’ve been in existence and they’ve made public pleas to meet with her and she won’t meet with any of us.”

“No, I don’t feel that the Democrats are representing my family at all,” Maloney said.

Report: Some ‘Furious’ House Democrats Want To Make AOC ‘One-Term Congressperson’

Democratic socialist freshman Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY) has definitely made her presence known among her colleagues in her few short weeks on Capitol Hill — and that’s not entirely a good thing, according to recent reports.

After taking out an incumbent Democrat who many believed would follow Nancy Pelosi as Democratic House Speaker, Ocasio-Cortez has announced to the world that she has partnered with far-left progressive group Justice Democrats, whose sole focus is primarying establishment Democrats who aren’t sufficiently liberal or "representative" of the Democrats’ increasingly "diverse" base.

"We as Justice Democrats have the chance to really transform the Democratic Party running in competitive primary elections in Democratic-held seats," one of the group’s leaders said in a recent promotional video for their campaign to primary Democrat incumbents (video below). "One of the important things that gets told in order to like settle us down is, ‘I agree with you. We have the same goals,”’ Ocasio-Cortez added. "It’s great that everyone thinks these issues are important. We need to make them urgent." That "urgency" requires new faces and voices, like hers, ready to make radical changes now — which means ousting insufficiently radical incumbent Democrats.

According to The Hill, Ocasio-Cortez’s open call for more radical candidates to take out her fellow Democrats has "infuriated" her colleagues, some of whom are already floating the idea of finding a primary challenger who can make the youngest woman to ever be elected to Congress a "one-term congressperson."

"At least one House Democrat has been privately urging members of the New York delegation to recruit a local politician from the Bronx or Queens to challenge Ocasio-Cortez," The Hill’s Scott Wong reports.

"What I have recommended to the New York delegation is that you find her a primary opponent and make her a one-term congressperson," the Democratic lawmaker told the outlet on condition of anonymity. "You’ve got numerous council people and state legislators who’ve been waiting 20 years for that seat. I’m sure they can find numerous people who want that seat in that district."

Wong reports that among those who have begun to look sideways at the freshman representative are "many" Congressional Black Caucus members. "Many New York and Congressional Black Caucus lawmakers were also furious with Ocasio-Cortez after a recent Politico report stated she and the grass-roots group aligned with her, Justice Democrats, were considering backing a primary challenge to fellow New York Democrat Hakeem Jeffries, a Black Caucus member and establishment insider who succeeded Crowley as caucus chairman," Wong writes.

However, Ocasio-Cortez and the Justice Democrats deny the claims in Politico’s report.

For now, reports Wong, her fellow Democrats are playing nice, at least on the surface. Black Caucus member Rep. Gregory Meeks’ (NY) public comments on the newly elected congresswoman demonstrate the kind of skepticism underlying his and his colleagues’ approach to AOC.

"We are going to see what happens," Meeks said in an interview. Though he said he is giving her "the benefit of the doubt" and "the presumption of innocence," he made clear that she’ll only continue to get that if she is a "team player." "I can only tell you that the times I’ve spoken to her, and at the times she’s been at the New York delegation meetings, she’s been cooperative and wants to be a team player," he said. "That’s what she said, so you gotta take her at her word until something changes."

She’s also reportedly angered some among the Congressional Hispanic Caucus with her plan to help the Justice Democrats take out centrist incumbent Dem. Henry Cuellar (TX). "We’re going to protect our members and we’re going to protect our own. Full stop," said former Hispanic Caucus whip Rep. Pete Aguilar (CA), Wong notes. "There are plenty of [swing] races and seats that we can play in, and we want to devote our resources to that."

Others have expressed strong doubt that the New York delegation would dare primary Ocasio-Cortez and noted that no candidate has emerged that could potentially challenge her. One insider, who stressed that the representative is "pissing off a lot of people," suggested that Elizabeth Crowley, 41, the cousin of the man she took out in the primary, might be a possibility.

The Potomac two-step: Will no one stand up to the corruption in the FBI, DOJ, and CIA?

For nearly ten years now, Americans who have been paying attention have known that our government has become corrupt, that its premier institutions were weaponized by the Obama administration to the point that we have become something of a police state or banana republic.  This is not to say there was no corruption previous to Obama.  As Sidney Powell addresses in her book License to Lie, the current special counsel, Robert Mueller, and his amoral, ruthless right-hand man, Andrew Weismann, had already been practicing their prosecutions of personal destruction for decades.  In the 1980s, Mueller sent four men to prison who he knew were innocent.  He did it to protect a confidential informant.  Two of them died in prison.  The lawsuits filed cost taxpayers $100M.  That trial was connected to the murderous mafia hit man Whitey Bulger, who was finally caught after sixteen years.  He died in prison in 2018.  Was he murdered to protect Mueller?

There was the total destruction of Enron, and then came the obliteration of Enron’s accounting firm, Arthur Andersen.  Those prosecutions were run much as Mueller and Weismann are running their current job assignment.  Mueller successfully ruined both companies, costing thousands of people their jobs and sending nonviolent people to prison, sometimes to solitary confinement like what he did with Paul Manafort.  Fortunately, but too little, too late, nearly all of the guilty verdicts they managed to elicit from juries were overturned by the Supreme Court in both cases.

Why were these two men not disbarred?  How this malicious and vindictive man continued to rise to be a U.S. attorney in Massachusetts and California before becoming head of the FBI is a still unexplained mystery.  The old adage about what rises to the top appears to be true too often.  Obama definitely used the FBI, DOJ, and CIA for his own ends without regard for the Constitution, rights to privacy, and basic decency.  People like Mueller have been around for years and years, poisoning the agencies they are charged with running lawfully.  Mueller is just one of the worst, but he has plenty of company: Patrick FitzgeraldEric Schneiderman, Eliot Spitzer, and Eric Holder come to mind.  Each of them perpetrated crimes against the DOJ and the American people as surely as Comey and McCabe have against the FBI, by using the power of the government for their own despicable ends.

Mueller was not hired to investigate Trump; he was hired to cover up crimes, his own and those of his fellow travelers, their elaborate plot to derail the Trump campaign and then to orchestrate his impeachment by any means necessary.  His appointment was successfully manipulated by Comey and Rosenstein for their own purposes.  Now Mueller has authorized the over-the-top SWAT-team, guns-drawn raid of Roger Stone’s home, an exercise that would be comical if it were not so deadly serious.

It appears we are now a police state.  Stalin would be proud.  The left and the media all approved of this preposterous bit of nasty theater.  Stephanopoulos said such tactics are “common,” a blatant lie.  As Tucker Carlson pointed out, Mueller sent more men to get Stone than Obama sent to get Osama bin Laden!  But then Stephanopoulos is nothing but a tool of the left, a talking head with a script to read.  Who writes the bilge he reads?  Would be good to know, but one thing is certain: they have as their goal the destruction of America and its most cherished values.

There is a scene in the film Clear and Present Danger (1994) in which the president says to the CIA analyst who has uncovered his treachery and is threatening to spill the beans: “You’ve got yourself a chip in the big game.  You’re going to tuck that away and save it for a time when your own ass is on the line, and then you’re going to pull it out, and I’m going to cash it in for you.  The old Potomac two-step.”  One can only conclude that far too many people in D.C. know that dance, and they dance their way to the top.  Is there no one aside from Trump who will work to help drain this swamp?

Covington Kids’ Attorney Lists Potential Libel Lawsuit Targets, and It’s Fantastic

Attorney Robert Barnes is representing several students from Covington Catholic High School who he says were libeled in the aftermath of the incident at the Life for March.

And, in an appearance on Fox News over the weekend, he listed the individuals he would be going after.

First, those who are in the clear: Rep. Ilhan Omar, who posted a tweet that claimed the students told a woman, “It’s not rape if you enjoy it” and who took the side of the Black Hebrew Israelite sect harassing the students, saying they were harassing the sect instead. Barnes said they asked her to retract the tweet and she did.

Also on that list was comedian Kathy Griffin, who retracted tweets which were aimed at doxing the students.

Then there those facing possible suits. The first mentioned was Reza Aslan, the former CNN host who’s known for his frequently profane rants against anything that has to do with Donald Trump or conservatives.

TRENDING: They Did It Again! CNN Caught Radically Editing Trump Clip To Make Him Look a Liar

Here was his take, not retracted, seeming to call for violence against a minor:

In an interview Saturday with Fox News Jesse Watters, Barnes said Aslan is one possible target of a lawsuit.

Another potential target is Matthew Dowd, the ABC News analyst who first lambasted the kids and then clung to the idea that the fuller video showed them to be racists.

Those tweets were still up late Monday morning, which means Dowd was looking at a possible lawsuit.

The New York Daily News is another potential target for their article mistaking a Covington Catholic “blackout game” for an instance of blackface.

As Watters pointed out, however, libel lawsuits can be difficult to win.

“From my limited understanding of the law — I did not go to law school — it’s a very high bar, the slander and the libel,” Watters said. “I mean, you have to show malicious intent and knowingly that something is wrong and defamatory. It doesn’t always work in court. Are you confident you’re going to be able to secure judgments?”

Do you think these journalists should be sued?

Barnes pointed out, however, there was a “unique exception.”

“When there is a defamation and libel of private citizens, particularly minors, then the legal standard goes way down,” Barnes said. “So you no longer have to prove actual malice or malevolent intent. All you have to prove is that a false statement was made — or in Kentucky, the law is even broader, ‘an unflattering impression given and a person’s impression in a false light’ — and otherwise … that it just be negligent to do so.”

That, Barnes explained, is why the families gave individuals a 48-hour window to retract or delete their statements.

“If they still refuse to do so, it’s clearly negligent for them to keep false statements up.”

And that’s not something I think the left particularly wants. At least at this point, the media is able to pass the kerfuffle off as a cultural Rorschach test: You see what you want to.

If it gets into a court of law and journalists who should have known better are clearly shown to have not known better, that’s not only going to drag this on — it’s more than likely to move this into a stage where news organizations are going to try to dig up dirt on minors to defend themselves or admit they were desperate to keep the narrative alive.

It’ll likely show, in a very public forum, how they denigrated and villainized underage kids for clicks and ratings.

That’s not a fate anyone who rushed to judgment on this case wants. The longer their arguments are out in the sun of public scrutiny, the more they wither and putrefy — and to a jury, that could look like a large cash award.

Democrats’ Worst Fear Is on the Horizon as a Massive 3rd Party Billionaire Moves Closer to Becoming a Candidate

After the 2000 election, Ralph Nader was pretty much exiled to cultural Siberia for the claim that his third-party run got George W. Bush elected. I mean, let’s face it, most younger liberals probably couldn’t have picked a man best known for killing the commercial prospects of the Chevrolet Corvair three decades prior out of a police lineup of two people, but now they knew who he was — and they loathed the man with the same intensity they loathed Dubya.

If Howard Schultz has anything to say about it, however, Nader’s place in the history books could finally revert to being the man who got a mediocre rear-engined GM economy car off the market.

If you’re not into business or the field of liberal activism, you also might not be able to pick Howard Schultz out of that two-person lineup. He’s the former CEO of Starbucks, having served two stints in that position and being the man most commonly associated with bringing the brand to worldwide prominence. He’s also a Twitter neophyte, having just sent out his first three tweets.

And wouldn’t you know it, two of them had to do with the possibility of him running for president:

TRENDING: They Did It Again! CNN Caught Radically Editing Trump Clip To Make Him Look a Liar

Do you think Howard Schultz will run for president?

It was at that auspicious moment that at least 13 potential Democrat presidential candidates called their doctor and asked for a Xanax prescription.

In an interview with The New York Times, Schultz told the newspaper “he was preparing to run for president as an independent and had already begun the groundwork required to be on the ballot in all 50 states.”

“We have a broken political system with both parties basically in business to preserve their own ideology without a recognition and responsibility to represent the interests of the American people,” Schultz said.

“Republicans and Democrats alike — who no longer see themselves as part of the far extreme of the far right and the far left — are looking for a home,” he continued, saying he thought the answer to our problems lay beyond party politics. “The word ‘independent,’ for me, is simply a designation on the ballot.”

Here is Schultz making his statement to “60 Minutes” in an interview that aired Sunday:

In this respect, Schultz could definitely be a spoiler. Of the serious declared Democrat candidates — I’m assuming Rep. John Delaney of Maryland’s prospects are non-existent that Rep. Tulsi Gabbard of Hawaii’s are marginal at best — the most centrist among them is Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand of New York, who’s hardly centrist at all.

Former Vice President Joe Biden will almost certainly enter the race, but one assumes even he’s going to have to move further left than he was in the Obama administration in a primary season that will likely see activist voters dominate.

And there arises the problem with Schultz.

Yes, Schultz could theoretically attract conservatives who were reluctant Trump supporters in 2016, particularly depending on what Robert Mueller ends up presenting, whenever he presents it.

However, in a moment where American politics are deeply cultural, Schultz’s credentials come as the CEO of a company not entirely beloved by conservatives. Also, even in 2016 — back when prospects of Trump winning seemed dim and there was plenty of dissent within the GOP ranks, Evan McMullin and Gary Johnson couldn’t tap into that resentment to siphon off votes.

That brings us to the Democrats, who still seem to forget that what the base may want is fundamentally different from what the wider party will vote for.

“Already top Democratic operatives working for presidential candidates and beyond say they’re worried that the only thing he’ll accomplish is making sure Donald Trump gets re-elected,” Edward-Isaac Dovere reported in The Atlantic. “It’s more than just sniping at a prospective opponent; word that he might invest in an independent run has many of them clearly worried about how he’d split votes in a general election.”

“Trump’s strategy has always been divide and conquer, and this plays directly into his hands,” an anonymous Democrat strategist told Dovere. Schultz is “Ralph Nader without any of Nader’s redeeming qualities. What’s his value proposition for America? Make America like a corporate chain?”

Schultz’s value proposition may be that he’s not whoever the Democrats nominate. Remember, the party’s success in 2018 was partially built on activist voters and the tendencies of midterm elections to bring out voters who oppose the president. However, one key to Democrats’ retaking the House was fielding moderate candidates in suburban districts where antipathy toward Trump ran high.

Can Democrats sell Elizabeth Warren to these voters? Bernie Sanders?

Maybe if the other candidate is Trump and the Democrats’ entire campaign is solely about the perfidies of the Trump administration, sure. But if those newly minted Democrat voters are given a legitimate third-party challenger that’s none of the above and peddles himself as a centrist who isn’t reflexively anti-business and has a chance of winning, that strategy would necessarily be thrown out the window.

Schultz, 65, is worth $3.3 billion. Campaigns are expensive nowadays, but that’s enough money to make a significant dent, particularly if you’re a Ross Perot type who comes to the late-life conclusion that just being known as a CEO isn’t enough to ensure your legacy.

If the former CEO decides he wants to blow, say, a fifth of his fortune on a delusional, quixotic bid for the presidency, I can see him easily see him in double digits — if perhaps not in the White House.

The problem for the Democrats is that not much of that support is going to siphon off from Trump. And while 2000 had Democrats forcing Ralph Nader out of the public sphere, 2020 could get them to try and force Howard Schultz out of the country.

Trump Taunts Former Starbucks CEO Schultz Over Presidential Run: I Actually Agree With One Thing He Said

Trump being very Trump, trying to troll him in, knowing it would harm Democrats.

Via Daily Wire:

Over the weekend, former Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz announced that he is strongly considering running for president as an Independent, intentions he discussed in an interview with “60 Minutes” Sunday night. Though thus far he’s stopped short of officially announcing a run, he’s making clear he believes he is a viable “alternative” not only to Trump, whom he blasted in the interview as “not qualified to be the president,” but Democratic candidates as well.

“Not only the fact that this president is not qualified to be the president, but the fact that both parties are consistently not doing what’s necessary on behalf of the American people and are engaged, every single day, in revenge politics,” Schultz told “60 Minutes” concerning his rationale for a potential run as an Independent.

Government Shutdown Opinion Poll Spells Big Trouble For Democrats Especially For Nancy Pelosi

Looks like people don’t like her game playing.

Via Twitchy:

Someone’s negatives shot WAY UP during the government shutdown, and it’s not who the media and the Left want you to think it is.

Which is probably why we’re not seeing more about this particular poll.

Nancy Pelosi’s negatives SHOT UP, and oh yeah, she’s the most unpopular politician tested in that survey.

Which is hilarious when you consider how many Tweeps are pretending she somehow ‘won’ in all of this. Nobody won, it was a huge mess for all involved and we’re no closer to being secure than we were before the shutdown. If Democrats see that as a win we have a bigger problem here but that’s another story.
