Move Over ‘Friends,’ Millennials Now Find ‘Seinfeld’ Problematic

So much of our culture today seems to be about finding reasons to hate pop culture from even a decade or two ago.
Now, one of the most popular and successful TV shows of all time is considered problematic for several jokes that were okay – or a little edgy – in the 1990s that are now offensive to American millennials. The previous victim of this new, politically correct world was “Friends.” Now, “Seinfeld” is getting the social justice warrior treatment.

Bible Survives Horrible Christmas Week Fire That Destroyed Home

The Christmas season might be “the “most wonderful time of the year,” but that doesn’t mean disaster can’t strike.

That hit home for a Texas man on Friday, but even amid his loss, an amazing thing happened.

Fox News reported that Charles House, of the east-central town of Tyler, had converted a storage unit into a small house and was living there. Just days after Christmas, he awoke to the smell of smoke and was able to escape before the entire place was consumed by fire.

It looked like he lost everything. But to his amazement, he found that something had miraculously survived the flames: His Bible.

In an interview with the local news station KLTV, House shared what happened.

TRENDING: James Woods Digs Up Devastating Bloomberg Photo, Buries ‘Fuel Conservation’ Outcry

“He said His word would not perish, and the Bible did not burn,” House told the station. “It was scorched, but it did not burn.”

The Daily Wire called the incident a “Christmas miracle,” and wrote that House also said, “You can take it away, but you can never stop His word. I’m a witness to that right now.

“Seeing that Bible, in the middle of that fire … it didn’t burn that Bible.”

The Christmas week story was picked up by newscasts around the country.

Currently, a GoFundMe campaign has been established to help the disabled House recover from his loss. More than $5,000 has been raised so far.

Social media is filled with other stories of other Bibles somehow surviving fires. A few examples are below:

RELATED: Apple Bans Christian App, Google and Amazon Urged to Follow Suit

Earlier in December, something similar to what happened to House happened in California. Pastor Brandon Merrick of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Paradise, California, shared a photo on Facebook of the church’s cross that survived the wildfire, despite everything around it being devastated.

His message with the photo was lengthy and full of faith.

Do you believe in miracles?

It also included these poignant words, “For me, this picture is not just a heartbreaking reminder of what can happen to the things and people of this world, this is our one true hope in the midst of tragedy that cannot be destroyed by anything. God is with us.”

Such things, as tragic as they are, also shine a light in the darkness. For those who witness or experience these miracles, it is a testament that, much like in the story of Pandora’s box, despite all the bad let loose in the world, something good exists, too.

It’s called “hope.”

Nikki Haley Blasts UN on Her Way Out the Door from New Twitter Account

Nikki Haley Blasts UN on Her Way Out the Door from New Twitter Account

Outgoing U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley isn’t done criticizing the U.N. From her new Twitter account, Haley called out UNESCO for being one of the “most corrupt and politically biased UN agencies.”

“UNESCO is among the most corrupt and politically biased UN agencies. Today the U.S. withdrawal from this cesspool became official,” she wrote.

Based in Paris, France, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization was founded in 1945 and supports educational and cultural projects “to help people live as global citizens free of hate and tolerance,” according to their webpage.

However, The Associated Press reported that “at the stroke of midnight,” both the United States and Israel were out of the organization, citing anti-Israeli bias.

The withdrawal process began more than a year ago in October 2017, but the beginning of 2019 made the exit official.

Critics of the organization have joined in claims of anti-Israel bias. They have cited things such as “criticizing Israel’s occupation of east Jerusalem, naming ancient Jewish sites as Palestinian heritage sites and granting full membership to Palestine in 2011.”

After Palestine was voted in as a member state, both Israel and the U.S. stopped paying dues. Since then, the unpaid dues have amassed into staggering numbers, with $600 million unpaid by the U.S. and $10 million unpaid by Israel. The United States’ dues accounted for approximately 22 percent of the organization’s budget.

Do you agree with what Nikki Haley tweeted?

Israeli U.N. envoy Danny Danson said, “UNESCO is a body that continually rewrites history, including by erasing the Jewish connection to Jerusalem,” according to the Jerusalem Post.

Haley had previously blasted the U.N. for a wide spectrum of issues. As the U.S. ambassador, she was unafraid to call the organization out.

Now, as she is leaving her role, she has continued that trend. On social media, she must now do so from a different Twitter account “Due to State Dept rules that were changed by the outgoing administration.”

NBC News wrote that the forced move cost Haley more than 1.6 million followers. But following her announcement, she quickly picked up over 217,000 followers on her new account.

Her work as an ambassador has been appreciated by many. On Twitter, Michael Dickson, the executive director of Stand with Us Israel, thanked her publicly for her efforts.

There has been speculation about what her future plans involve, but Haley has made one thing clear: She will continue to be an outspoken force against the corruption she sees within the United Nations.

NYT Falls Victim to Own Political Correctness. Forced To Apologize for ‘Racist’ Crossword Answer

Apparently, the lunacy of political correctness knows no bounds. It has no common sense and is always on the prowl for something new to be offended over.

The latest nonsensical PC controversy is over a crossword puzzle answer in The New York Times, a news outlet that stands out for its liberal bias even in the liberally biased mainstream media. When it comes to virtue-signalling, the left will eat its own.

The hubbub is over the answer to a clue from The Times crossword puzzle on Tuesday that read, “pitch to the head, informally.” New York Times Crossword Answers reveals that the solution for that clue is the word “beaner.”

It might have seemed innocuous enough to anyone doing the puzzle (The Free Dictionary defines the word as a baseball term, referring to when “a baseball is deliberately thrown at a batter’s head”). However, in some circles, the term “beaner” is a slur for Mexicans.

Even though The Times puzzle was completely innocent in context, Will Shortz, The Times’ crossword puzzle editor, was issuing a New Year’s Day apology for anyone who might have been offended. (The “Joel” Shortz cites is apparently his assistant, digital puzzles editor Joel Fagliano.)

TRENDING: James Woods Digs Up Devastating Bloomberg Photo, Buries ‘Fuel Conservation’ Outcry

In the apology, Shortz gave other examples of words that hold more than one meaning, including a slur. Those words have also been used in the publication’s crossword puzzles.

“My feeling, rightly or wrongly, is that any benign meaning of a word is fair game for a crossword puzzle,” Shortz wrote.

Do you think liberals are overreacting to this crossword answer?

But now that policy will be reassessed “if enough solvers are bothered” by words that can be slurs are being used in their correct definition for the puzzles.

Shortz also wrote that his viewpoint was expressed “with a pure heart,” but according to Fox News, the apology was not good enough for some critics.

One Twitter user of Hispanic heritage was quick to point out the problem with all of the outrage.

That user was not alone in defending the use of the word in the puzzle — and attacking its attackers.

In this day and age of knee-jerk corporate reactions to manufactured leftist outrage, the crossword-puzzle writing team may find themselves lucky to keep their jobs.

It seems once you outrage the snowflakes, simply being attacked on social media is not nearly a high enough price to pay for their choice to be offended.

Dirty Tech: Microsoft Board Member Caught Funding Dems’ Anti-Roy Moore Operation

For the past couple of years, there has been Democratic outrage about alleged Russian interference in U.S. elections and claims that the deceptive and subversive tactics allegedly used to influence voters in 2016 was entirely anti-American, undemocratic and must be wholly opposed.

It has been revealed that a Democrat-aligned group funded by a left-leaning Silicon Valley billionaire adopted and used those very same tactics in the 2017 special Senate election in Alabama, which resulted in Democratic candidate Doug Jones barely squeaking out a win over Republican candidate Roy Moore.

The New York Times dropped a bombshell report on Dec. 19 that exposed the “secret experiment” in Alabama by a Democrat-aligned group in 2017. This experiment used deceptive and fake Facebook accounts and pages, hired Russian “bots” and purposeful leaks to the media to foment division among Republicans and bolster support for the Democrat.

The Times obtained an internal report from the group, which explicitly noted that participants in the project “experimented with many of the tactics now understood to have influenced the 2016 elections.”

“We orchestrated an elaborate ‘false flag’ operation that planted the idea that the Moore campaign was amplified on social media by a Russian botnet,” the report bragged.

TRENDING: James Woods Digs Up Devastating Bloomberg Photo, Buries ‘Fuel Conservation’ Outcry

The scheme involved the creation of a fake Facebook page targeted toward unsuspecting Alabama conservatives, which sought to drive a wedge in the support for Moore by boosting a potential Republican write-in candidate — a businessman named Mac Watson — for the hotly contested election while at the same time highlighting the sexual misconduct allegations against Moore.

It also purposefully leaked stories to the media that linked Moore to a sudden swarm of alleged Russian bots that began to follow Moore on Twitter, implying that the embattled Republican candidate was supported by the evil Russians in order to demoralize Republican voters while energizing Democrats to turn out on Election Day.

Of course, participants in the project are now attempting to downplay the significance of what they did by suggesting the project was too small to have a measurable impact on the election, and was merely an experiment to see how the online tactics would work in practice, not to actually sway any voters.

The Times reported that, according to Federal Election Commission filings, the project had a budget of $100,000, which came from left-leaning tech billionaire Reid Hoffman — a co-founder of LinkedIn and member of the Microsoft Board — and was funneled through a group known as American Engagement Technologies, which was operated by former Obama administration members.

Should this tech billionaire face repercussions for his deceptive actions?

Newsbusters reported that Microsoft declined to respond when pressed for comment on the subversive actions of a board member, with a spokesman stating merely that the company had “nothing to share at this time.”

However, the corporation may soon be compelled to say or do something in response to the revelations as the involvement of Hoffman in the Alabama race may very well be in violation of Microsoft’s own “Standards of Business Conduct,” which explicitly instructs board members and employees to “Communicate Accurately to the Public” and insists that all public statements be “honest and not misleading.”

For its part in the deceptive scheme, which became known as “Project Birmingham,” Facebook proceeded to suspend five users linked to the project on Dec. 24 and released a statement which said, “We take a strong stand against people or organizations that create networks of accounts to mislead others about who they are or what they’re doing.”

Even the liberals at The Washington Post — which played an integral role in promoting the sexual misconduct allegations against Moore — called the deceptive operation “highly disturbing” and quoted Hoffman apologizing for what had occurred, which he claimed to have no advanced knowledge of or participation in, aside from providing funding.

In a prepared statement, Hoffman said, “I find the tactics that have been recently reported highly disturbing. For that reason, I am embarrassed by my failure to track AET — the organization I did support — more diligently as it made its own decisions to perhaps fund projects that I would reject.

RELATED: County Sheriff Reportedly Allowed To Keep $1.5 Million in Illegal Immigrant Funding

“I want to be unequivocal: there is absolutely no place in our democracy for manipulating facts or using falsehoods to gain political advantage.”

He also readily admitted to providing funding and support for numerous Democratic Party candidates and “dozens of organizations,” virtually all of which are left-leaning and advocate for the progressive agenda.

Whether Hoffman was fully involved in the Project Birmingham scheme or just an unwitting financier is beside the point, as the real scandal here is the proof that Silicon Valley and the left are more than willing to use the latest technology to deceive and manipulate voters ahead of an election … the exact same thing they so vociferously decried just a year prior.

‘Extreme’ Knights of Columbus Council Responds to Attacks From Dems

Sen. Kamala Harris / Getty Images

BY:

A Knights of Columbus council wrote an open letter to Democratic Sens. Kamala Harris (Calif.) and Mazie Hirano (Hawaii) after the Senate Judiciary Committee members questioned district court nominee Brian C. Buescher in December about his affiliation with the Catholic men’s group.

“The Knights of Columbus in general, and O’Boyle Council in particular are dedicated to the three fundamental principles of charity, unity, and fraternity,” wrote the Patrick Cardinal O’Boyle Council, which is based in Washington, D.C.

Both Harris and Hirano took issue with the Knights in their written questions, submitted Dec. 5, directed to Buescher. Harris described the group’s designation as “an all-male society” and asked Buescher whether he was aware of the group’s positions opposing “a woman’s right to choose” and “marriage equality.”

Hirano called the Knights “extreme” in their views on marriage and asked whether, if confirmed, Buescher would resign from the group “to avoid any appearance of bias.”

The nominee answered that he would not make rulings based on the Knights’ political views, stating that the organization “does not have the authority to take personal political positions on behalf of all of its approximately two million members.”

The O’Boyle Council’s letter expanded on Buescher’s comments, outlining for Harris and Hirano the Knights’ local activities around the Senate offices over the past few months. The council has worked with Catholic churches on Capitol Hill to raise over $4,000 in funds for coats for underprivileged children in the neighborhood. It has also collected diapers and other baby supplies for mothers in need, as well as donating an ultrasound machine to a local health clinic.

“We hope this list of activities help to assure you that we are simply a group aiming to do God’s work while building friendships,” the council wrote.

President Donald Trump nominated Buescher to serve on the U.S. District Court for the District of Nebraska on Nov. 3.

The council, one of thousands across the country, concluded by inviting Harris and Hirano to support its ongoing charitable work by joining the group for an upcoming event, the annual Polar Plunge, to raise funds for the local Special Olympics program.

New Year’s border charge proves caravan is an invasion – and it’s time for a wall

They plotted it carefully, for several days, with precise tactics, calling it off the first time in order to get the timing just right: an invasion plan to charge the border in the dead of night, on a holiday, estimating that the U.S. Border Patrol would probably be asleep at its posts and too surprised to react.  They got a few kids ready to throw into the concertina wire for the strategically invited television cameras, in a secondary bid to maximize the propaganda value, because for them, the war front is multi-faceted.  Then they charged:

A “violent mob” of illegal immigrants [sic] tried to ring in the new year by rushing the border in California, and Border Patrol agents fired tear gas at them to repel the incursion, Homeland Security officials said Tuesday.

About 150 people were involved in the attempt to climb over and burrow under a section of border fence in San Diego on New Year’s Eve night.  After they were blocked, one group grew more combative, firing rocks over the border to try to hit agents.

The Border Patrol fired tear gas, smoke and pepper spray rounds at the group of rock-throwers, said Customs and Border Protection.

The migrants said they were part of the caravan of people from Central America who arrived at the border over the last couple of months, escalating what had already been a strained border security regime.

That’s the Washington Times report of what went down.  Here is the San Diego Union-Tribune’s.

A group of about 150 migrants attempted to breach a San Diego border fence on New Year’s, and some began throwing rocks at responding U.S. border agents who deployed pepper spray and tear gas on the crowd, authorities said.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection said the group was attempting to climb over and under the San Diego border fence. When agents and officers responded, about 45 migrants turned back to Mexico, according to the agency.

The strategic planning here was positively military, because for the caravan dead-enders doing it, this is war, an invasion, and there are vast spoils to be had on the other side.  They were charging and invading the flimsy gates of America in a bid to reach the vast benefit packages.

The sense of entitlement is pretty amazing.  Recall this firsthand account from the Daily Signal about the organization and attitude of the caravan:

MEXICO CITY – The migrant caravan has its own de facto government, and on this night the travelers from Central America gathered at the behest of a few leaders to discuss issues of the day as well as the big picture – such as what route to take to the U.S. border.

“It’s your right to go to the U.S.,” Milton Benitez, a political analyst and sociologist who hosts the Honduran TV show “El Perro Amarillo,” implored the impassioned crowd.

In a scene not unlike when a coach rallies his players before a big game, the Honduran media figure pressed the encircling migrants on the night of Nov. 7 not to give up on their “mission” to achieve the U.S. border.

With that bugle call to join the caravan, it’s hardly surprising that it’s now descending into a military-like invasion.  The idea of waiting in line, as normal people who immigrate legally do, is simply absent.  The U-T has more details:

“The thing about it is, you don’t want to be illegal but you are already illegal,” [caravan migrant] Sierra said.  ”So they tell you to take a number.  You ask for a number and wait in line for an opportunity.  But there’s so many people in line, you aren’t getting through.  If you walk up and ask for asylum, they say you are in the wrong place.  You tell me what are we supposed to do?”

Hear that?  He’s quite convinced he’s entitled to instant customer service, the way first-class passengers are on flights, getting to board first.  Lines are for suckers, and he doesn’t do lines.

With that the attitude, you can bet there are going to be more border charges, just as one of the uneducated young men who was repelled in the New Year’s attack said would happen.  With all of these organized invasions now coming, what we are seeing is a repeat of the European migrant invasions with all of the social blight, sex harassment and political ruin of Europe’s leaders that followed.  More border charges are on the way, so how can it be that “walls don’t work,” as the left claims, and how can it be that a more secure wall, one with no need of razor wire upon which to toss the kids for the photos, isn’t needed?  Democrats are now insisting that America doesn’t need a border wall, even as the flimsy fences America does have are being breached in organized attacks.  This charge is proof positive that President Trump’s border wall is needed and Democratic opposition to it is nothing more than a desire to see the gates to the U.S. knocked over to all comers.  Team Trump must drive this home as negotiations to end the government shutdown head for a climax.

What Both the Left and Right Miss About Work in America

I believe that growth can benefit all Americans, yet while our gross domestic product has tripled in size from 1975 to 2015, average wages have barely risen.

The response from both political parties has been to double down on policies that have failed to address this reality. Maybe they’re missing something crucial in their economic calculations. A focus on work.

Author and scholar Oren Cass explains on my new podcast episode.

House Democratic Rules Package Could Mean More Spending, Higher Taxes

As Congress gears up for the new term, the House of Representatives is preparing a vote this week on rules to govern the 116th Congress.

A few notable provisions are grabbing the headlines, such as allowing the speaker to “intervene” in challenges to Obamacare, establishing a new select committee on climate change, and making it harder to call for a mid-session vote for speaker. But several provisions impact the federal budget, and not for the better.

Rather than promoting fiscal restraint, the House is considering rules changes that would move in the opposite direction. The results could mean more deficit spending and higher taxes for many Americans.

Here are four proposed rules changes the House should reconsider.

1. Adoption of a “Gephardt rule,” which would allow the House to avoid a direct vote on the debt limit.

Under this rule, a vote on a House budget resolution would double as a vote to raise the debt limit in the House. In early 2019, we are likely to hit a debt of $22 trillion. Americans deserve a true stand-alone vote on the debt limit in both chambers of Congress.

The debt limit is an important moment for forcing action to confront our nation’s highly unsustainable and worsening fiscal path, and an opportunity to correct course with spending and entitlement reforms. The Gephardt rule would reverse course by allowing the House to avoid taking an important vote on the debt limit, thus reducing congressional accountability.

The version considered by the new House in its rules package would send a debt limit suspension through the end of the fiscal year (Sept. 30) to the Senate upon passage of a concurrent resolution on the budget in the House.

Congress should enact fiscal controls to reform and control spending, and should do so before increasing the debt limit again.

2. Eliminating dynamic scoring.

The proposed rules package would eliminate a requirement that major legislation take into account the economic impact of the policy changes it contains. The official score of how tax legislation affects revenue would no longer take into account how policy changes affect the way people, businesses, investors, and entrepreneurs alter their behavior in response.

This would deny the widely accepted reality that government policy can and does change people’s behavior and affect the economy. In essence, it would allow Congress to ignore the negative effects of its own policies.

Getting rid of dynamic scoring would make it easier for Congress to raise taxes on all Americans. Lawmakers would be able to pretend that higher tax rates will bring in lots of new revenue, while denying the negative effects of a slower economy.

Raising income tax rates would bring in more revenue, but it would also cause people to work less, save less, and invest less. When people work less, the government collects less revenue and the economy as a whole is smaller than without the tax hike.

Top marginal income tax rates have been as high as 91 percent and as low as 28 percent over the past 50 years, but the resulting revenue hasn’t changed that much.

(Photo: Federal Budget in Pictures)

3. Removing super-majority protection against tax increases.

The proposed House rules would strike the requirement that a supermajority of three-fifths of Congress vote to increase taxes on the American people. Without this protection, the House would be able to more easily increase income taxes, endangering the tax cuts passed a year ago.

4. Allowing amendments to appropriations bills that increase net spending.

Under current House rules, an amendment to a spending bill cannot cause a net increase in budget authority. In other words, any proposed amendments that would increase or create new spending must be fully paid for.

The new rules package would abandon that requirement, and it couldn’t come at a worse time. The Budget Control Act spending caps, one of the few tools to restrain spending, are on life-support. Absent these caps, Congress may pass billions of dollars in unpaid spending.

The deficits is already likely to top $1 trillion this year. Now is not the time to make it easier for Congress to heap on more spending.

Rules changes are an opportunity for Congress to take on more budget restraint and transparency. Here are three alternative rules changes that would further those goals.

1. Account for interest costs when considering legislation.

Under current scoring conventions, Congress does not require the Congressional Budget Office to include the additional interest costs of changes to spending and tax levels. This creates an incomplete view of the costs of legislation and distorts congressional decision making in favor of more spending and debt accumulation.

Congress should direct the Congressional Budget Office to produce interest cost estimates to accompany every score of proposed legislation. This would improve accuracy in scorekeeping and help Congress make more informed decisions.

2. End unauthorized appropriations.

Last year, the Congressional Budget Office estimated that Congress appropriated over $300 billion to programs with lapsed or “zombie” appropriations. The authorization process is an oversight tool that provides a chance for members of authorizing committees to closely examine federal activities and determine whether or not they are worthy purposes.

Yet Congress has only weak rules to limit zombie appropriations and they are ignored.

Congress should pass a stronger rule that ends unauthorized appropriations. Oversight is one of the major duties of members of Congress, and by failing to take action for or against authorizations, they are doing a disservice to taxpayers. With the national debt quickly approaching $22 trillion, the country cannot afford to waste any more money on zombie appropriations.

3. Reinstate the Holman rule.

The Holman rule gives Congress a more inclusive process for allocating funds as it intends. It allows Congress to cut specific funds from an appropriations bill, to reduce the number of federal workers in a particular agency or program, or to cut the pay of a particular federal worker.

Although critics of the rule wrongly claim that it would upend the civil service system and lead to all sorts of targeted job and pay cuts, that is neither the purpose of the rule nor how it has been used when in place. Instead, the Holman rule allows legislators to eliminate programs they do not intend to fund; to eliminate positions or reassign workers based on government priorities; and to cut the pay of workers in particularly egregious cases.

Today, federal employees’ unions make it nearly impossible to fire a federal worker—even in cases when the worker has confessed to a crime. Federal employees’ jobs should not be immune from an act of Congress signed by the president. The Holman rule ensures that if a federal employee performs so severely that both Congress and the president call for action, the employee can effectively be forced to resign by reducing his pay to $1.

More importantly, the Holman rule allows lawmakers to key in on their intended spending priorities and protect taxpayer resources by cutting funding for unnecessary or problematic programs.

Each new session of Congress provides an opportunity for the House to reevaluate its rules and set the agenda for the next two years. If the rules set forth for the 116th Congress are any indication, it could be a costly two years for taxpayers.

Instead of adopting rules biased toward higher spending and taxes, the House should adopt a package promoting fiscal responsibility and transparency, paving the way for overdue spending reforms.
