One of the fundamental tenets of the American judicial system is the presumption of innocence, which is given life through what the law calls “due process.”

The Library of Congress defines due process as “a constitutional guarantee that prevents governments from impacting citizens in an abusive way. (emphasis added) In its modern form, due process includes both procedural standards that courts must uphold in order to protect peoples’ personal liberty and a range of liberty interests that statutes and regulations must not infringe.”

You’ll notice that Democrats’ moves during the confirmation fight over now-Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh absolutely impacted “citizens in an abusive way” with the way they attacked and maligned Kavanaugh until Saturday’s vote.

But more damning than the Democrats’ treatment of Kavanaugh has been their utter disregard for the Fifth and Fourteenth amendments to the Constitution.

Just in case you haven’t brushed up on your constitutional amendments lately, the Fifth and Fourteenth amendments guarantee, among other things, that no “person” can “be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law.”

Simply put, in America, a person accused of wrongdoing should always be presumed innocent until proven guilty. It’s literally in the Constitution, despite Democrats’ best attempts to obscure that little fact.

One reason Democrats have been so brazen in their disdain for due process has been exposed by the The Daily Caller. In short, Democrats’ knew their base would be easy to convince.

The Daily Caller asked Kavanaugh protesters if they believe that he should be innocent until proven guilty. Check out the video by The Daily Caller reporter Benny Johnson here.

The answers were jarring, to say the least. At the same time, their responses eerily echoed the anti-due process rhetoric Democratic leaders have been spewing.

“Innocent until proven guilty. Do you think those rules apply here (regarding Judge Kavanaugh)?” the Johnson asked protesters in the street.

“Innocent until proven guilty for (Kavanaugh)? No,” one protester wearing an “I Am A Survivor” shirt said. “Absolutely not. He’s guilty all the way. Guilty, guilty, guilty.”

Actually, all witness statements — other than those of Kavanaugh’s accusers themselves — and the results of the FBI’s background investigation have found no evidence of Kavanaugh being guilty.

But Kavanugh didn’t deserve the presumption of innocence?

“I’ve heard that a lot, too,” a woman protesting Kavanaugh’s confirmation told Johnson. “Like, ‘He’s innocent until proven guilty.’ But then, I’m reminding people that’s in a court of law, which, this is not a court of law.”

An older woman holding a sign that read “Shouldn’t Hire Unfit Liar,” made similar remarks.

“Yes, (Kavanaugh) is innocent until proven guilty. But that’s not what this is. It’s not a court. It’s a job interview,” the woman said.

The two women are sort of right in that the Kavanaugh confirmation process was not a criminal court case. But the reality is that the man was accused very publicly of having committed a serious crime. The American public owed it to Kavanaugh, and to the country’s traditions, to not consider him guilty simply on the basis of that accusation — but that’s exactly what Democrats did.

Another older woman joined in the chorus of saying the presumption of innocence was irrelevant.

“No, but see the thing is, it’s not about innocent until proven guilty. It is about he will not stay still long enough and take responsibility for what has happened already. When the Senate refuses to allow the FBI to investigate him, it’s just (a) sham! It’s a total freaking sham!” she said.

Never mind that Kavanaugh sat through hours of Senate Judiciary Committee hearings and, when he had the chance, denied loudly every accusation against him. And never mind that the Judiciary Committee absolutely requested the FBI investigate him. Why let facts get in the way of a great rant?

Things turned even darker when Johnson asked protesters if Kavanaugh even deserved due process. It’s one thing to think the man is guilty with every fiber of your being. It’s something much scarier when you don’t think the man even deserves to be heard. Several people all flatly told Johnson that no, Kavanaugh doesn’t deserve due process.

Any time someone accuses Democrats of trying to undermine our Constitution, The Daily Caller video should be the first piece of evidence presented.

Although, if you’re going by the Democratic logic on display here, I guess you don’t even need that evidence.

I’m old enough to remember when Democrats lectured us about how concerns over illegal immigrants coming into the country and joining up with MS-13 was mostly hype, an unfair characterization of immigrants, a “political tool” of Donald Trump (NY Times), mostly a myth (WaPo) and any number of other denigrating statements. Of course, if you’ve been awake for just the past year you’re probably old enough to remember that also. But not even everyone in the liberal community buys these claims.

Some of biggest strongholds of Democratic donors (with deep pockets) in the northeastern reaches of the country have chosen to take the issue seriously. And they’re putting their money where their mouths are… lots of it. As the New York Post reports this week, out on Long Island, some of the wealthier residents are upgrading their homes at tremendous expense, but it’s not for a new art collection or a second yacht. They’re putting in panic rooms, bulletproof glass, arsenals of weapons and top line security systems. And they’re doing it to hide from MS-13 raids.

There is a specter haunting the Hamptons — one that’s turning some of the priciest properties in the country into fortresses equipped with bulletproof glass, weaponry and panic rooms.

“I sleep with a gun underneath my pillow: a Walther PPK/S, the same one James Bond carried,” said John Catsimatidis, owner of Red Apple Group and Gristedes Foods, who has a vacation property in East Quogue. “[My wife] Margo prefers a shotgun. Although, once, she thought she heard something, got the shotgun out and shot through the door.”

The billionaire and his family, like others in the Hamptons, are shaken up over concerns that the vicious Salvadorian gang MS-13 is too close for comfort. In April, members of the gang massacred four young men behind a soccer field in Central Islip. Three months later, a Hampton Bays brothel raided by police was found to be tagged with an MS-13 sign. And in 2016, a man with MS-13 connections broke into a Southampton home and sexually assaulted a woman.

This isn’t just a handful of nervous Nellies. The Post was able to find plenty who were willing to talk (mostly on background) who keep an eye on the local news and they don’t feel safe. Gang attacks have been escalating, even as other forms of crime have been declining, and gang members have been hitting affluent neighborhoods, probably because that’s where the money is.

Speaking of money, there’s another way to measure how many people are responding to the increased threat. The reporters in this story checked with manufacturers of specialized defense systems and bulletproof windows and they found that business is booming. Armored Entry, a company that installs bullet-proof, super-secure windows and doors, is keeping very busy in that region and they charge up to $6,000 for a single window. Covert Interiors is a company that specializes in “Luxury Panic Rooms” and they’re also keeping their calendar full. With their services, you can have a panic closet for as “little” as $20K or you can drop up to a quarter million and have a place to wait out the apocalypse in style.

So you tell me. It’s easy enough to find people to talk about a threat or challenge to add some political weight to the national conversation. But who is going to be flushing that kind of money into home security unless they are reacting to a legitimate threat? People who want to deny that we have a problem with violent illegal aliens should take a tour of the Hamptons and speak to some of the residents. (Assuming you can get past the guards.) See how much of a “myth” it looks like to them.

Saturday Night Live star Pete Davidson — who made headlines last December when he revealed his “Badass” Hillary Clinton tattoo — appeared on the NBC show’s “Weekend Update” segment and launched a full-on assault on Kanye West.

“So speaking strictly for myself, what Kanye said after he went off the air last week was one of the worst, most awkward things I’ve ever seen here,” Davidson said of West’s impassioned speech during the end of last week’s show, in which the Grammy-winner railed against critics of President Donald Trump, the “90 percent” liberal media, and pro-welfare state Democrats.
“He started by saying people backstage tried to bully him into not wearing it,” Davidson said of West. “He wore it all week. Like, nobody told him not to wear it. I wish I bullied you. I wish I suggested that, you know, it might upset some people, like, your wife or every black person ever.”

Opting not to challenge any of the myriad arguments that West mentioned, Davidson jumped to personal digs, saying, “Being mentally ill is not an excuse to act like a jackass, OK?”

Putting on a red “Make Kayne 2006 Again” hat, Davidson concluded the segment saying, “We want the old Kanye back.”

In 2016, President Trump criticized SNL for being unfunny and obnoxiously liberal. Pete Davidson, responding to Trump’s comments, said, “Never been more proud. Fuck you bitch.”

I am not the biggest believer that justice will prevail in politics, but I may have to reassess my beliefs after the way Democrats have so quickly turned on notorious lawyer Michael Avenatti following Brett Kavanaugh’s successful confirmation to the Supreme Court.

Just to be clear here, there are no good guys in this story. Just a lot of bad guys — and one really bad guy getting his comeuppance.

Avenatti rose to infamy when he began representing porn star Stormy Daniels, who has accused President Donald Trump of having a sexual encounter with her and paying her off to remain silent.

Along the way, Avenatti has proven himself to be more capable of garnering negative headlines than doing any demonstrable damage to Trump. Fox News’ Tucker Carlson dubbed Avenatti the “creepy porn lawyer,” and that has gained more traction than anything else that Avenatti has accomplished.

It’s that bumbling, circus-like atmosphere that seems to follow Avenatti around like a pungent odor that has Democrats decrying the man now.

“Well you know at some point there were a lot of folks coming forward making all sorts of accusations,” Sen. Gary Peters, a Michigan Democrat, told CNN. “It turns it into a circus atmosphere and certainly that’s not where we should be.”

Peters was referring to when Avenatti came forward with Julie Swetnick, a woman who claimed to have witnessed Kavanaugh and his friend, Mark Judge, attend at least 10 parties in high school. She also claimed to have seen lines of boys standing outside of a room to take turns sexually assaulting incapacitated girls, with Kavanaugh and Judge among them.

However, Swetnick’s testimony quickly fell apart when she refused to say if Kavanaugh and Judge actually participated in the assaults. She also could not name any witnesses who could corroborate her story.

For many, it was a clear sign that the Kavanaugh scandal had officially jumped the shark with baseless accusations getting more coverage than actual investigatory findings.

“I think we should have focused on the serious allegations that certainly appeared very credible to me that would be our best course of action,” Peters told CNN, after being asked if he felt that Avenatti’s accusations helped or hurt their case against Kavanaugh.

Other Democratic figures were far sharper with their criticisms of Avenatti.

“Democrats and the country would have been better off if Mr. Avenatti spent his time on his Iowa vanity project rather than meddling in Supreme Court fights,” a senior Senate Democratic aide told CNN, referring to the idea that Avenatti is actually considering trying for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2020, and exploring an Iowa primary bid in the process. “His involvement set us back, absolutely.”

Another anonymous Democratic senator bluntly described Avenatti as “not helpful at all.”

The best part of all of this is that Avenatti has fired back at the Democrats, calling them “cowards.”

“It is outrageous that these so-called Democrats would attack a sexual assault victim from coming forward,” Avenatti responded to CNN. “I guess their position is that she should have shut her mouth and remained silent? It is disgusting that these cowards blame my client and the other accusers from coming forward.”

Now, it’s true that the enemy of my enemy isn’t always my friend.

But that’s not stopping me from enjoying the utter meltdown and cat-fighting between Democrats and Avenatti.

They truly deserve each other.

Rhode Island Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse has pretty much as close to a sinecure as you can get in the United States Senate, given the fact that he’s a Democrat in a state as deep blue as the waters of the Atlantic.

However, his opponent might have come up with one of the best ads of the midterm season, and all he had to do was use Whitehouse’s own words.

Bob Flanders, the former Rhode Island supreme court justice who won the Sept. 12 Republican primary to challenge Whitehouse for the Senate in November, decided to use footage of Whitehouse on the Senate Judiciary Committee interviewing now-Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh about Kavanaugh’s high school yearbook — in particular the word “boofed.”

With a bit of harpsichord music playing over the dialogue, the distinguished gentleman from the nation’s smallest state is shown asking the hard-hitting questions at last month’s Kavanaugh hearings.

“Have you, I don’t know if it’s ‘buffed’ or ‘boofed,’ how do you pronounce that?” Whitehouse is shown asking.

“That refers to flatulence,” Kavanaugh responded. “We were 16.”

“OK,” Whitehouse said.

“We want to talk about flatulence at age 16 on a yearbook page, um, I’m game,” Kavanaugh is shown saying later.

“With all the world watching, Senator Whitehouse asks about … flatulence,” the narrator of the advertisement, called “Gasbag,” intones.

“What an embarrassment for Rhode Island. Let’s elect a problem-solver, not a gasbag.”

Of course, the thing is that liberals refuse to believe that “boofing” means flatulence.

The explanations of what it really means stretch from something sexually unnatural to the equally unnatural consumption of alcohol or other substances by means of an orifice … not usually used for consumption.

All of this is wonderful, but what exactly does it have to do with the accusations against Kavanaugh by Palo Alto University Professor Christine Blasey Ford? Well, nothing.

But like some terrible “National Treasure” movie, the left believed that Kavanaugh’s yearbook actually held the secret to defeating his nomination and proving he was a sexual predator.

Well, it didn’t. Kavanaugh is now a Supreme Court justice. Whitehouse, unfortunately, will still also likely be a senator. In mid-September, RealClearPolitics had him ahead by 19 points.

One hopes that maybe Rhode Islanders will think twice about electing a gasbag of the highest order.

Does big tech have a political bias problem? Companies like Facebook and Google have sworn up and down that they’re apolitical … but a growing amount of evidence is raising hard questions about the corporate culture within these brands.

On Saturday, one of Google’s top people single-handedly brought those questions to the surface again. After Brett Kavanaugh was confirmed as the next Supreme Court justice, the tech company’s design lead went on a hateful rant on Twitter.

“You are finished, @GOP,” posted Dave Hogue, whose bio states that he holds a design lead position at Google. “You polished the final nail for your own coffins.”

“F–K. YOU. ALL. TO. HELL,” the unhinged Google leader continued, according to screenshots of his angry tweets captured by Jim Hoft.

He didn’t stop there. Hogue went even darker, calling Republicans “evil” and wishing conservatives to be burned.

“I hope the last images burned into your slimy, evil, treasonous retinas are millions of women laughing and clapping and celebrating as your souls descend into the flames,” he posted.

Numerous sources including LinkedIn and Crunchbase confirm that Hogue is a senior user experience designer at Google, and that he has a Ph.D.

Sometime after posting the inflammatory messages, the high-ranking Google leader deleted them and then posted a follow-up message admitting that he had written them.

“Yes, I deleted that tweet,” he stated. “Yes, those opinions are mine personally, and I am responsible for them. Yes, I should have been more eloquent and less condemning.” Gee, you think?

That’s at least something. It was a non-apology, however. Hogue went on to stand by his deeply biased views, even though he had sheepishly removed the post.

“Yes, I still believe the GOP is wrong and not serving your best interests,” he continued. The California liberal did not elaborate about whether he still wanted to “F–K” conservatives “TO HELL” while people applauded.

Now, these were personal opinions … but the fact that a fairly high-profile supervisor at Google didn’t think twice before posting such vile and hateful comments publicly should speak volumes.

Remember, this wasn’t some random low-level office drone — it was one of Google’s top managers, a design lead who helps shape projects and influences the company’s overall direction.

Imagine for just a moment if you were a conservative employee, and this man was your supervisor. How do you think an employee at Google would feel knowing that the company’s leaders publicly wish for them to violently burn in flames while people cheer?

Or, consider for a moment if a representative of the company had posted this hateful comment about gay employees, or workers who had voted for Obama. No human resources department in America would tolerate this hate speech, yet it’s apparently completely fine at Google.

It’s yet another piece of evidence about a trend that countless whistle-blowers have been pointing out for months: There appears to be a major problem with hard-left political bias at places like Google, and these companies are in denial about what’s happening.

Former Google engineer James Damore, for instance, was fired by the search engine giant for having the not-so-radical opinion that men and women are different. Gasp!

“Google employees have witnessed multiple instances in which hundreds of ‘progressive’ Googlers would target a single co-worker for harassment, and even potential violence, over a politicized matter, humiliating the person and sabotaging his career,” claimed a lawsuit filed on Damore’s behalf, as we reported in January.

And while the tech company has publicly insisted that its politically unbiased, some insiders say the opposite is true.

“A leaked video … shows an internal meeting at Google shortly after the election of Donald Trump to the presidency in which Google’s leadership expressed deep sadness and an obsessive dedication” to influencing U.S. politics, we recently reported.

True diversity respects many different viewpoints, but it seems that companies like Google have become intellectual echo chambers.

Hogue likely felt comfortable posting his hateful and violent anti-Republican screed precisely because he knew it would be welcomed by his colleagues. For him, that biased anger was normal — and that is deeply troubling.

The confirmation of Justice Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court is much more than a win for the Republicans who beat off the assaults of the Democrat’s attempt to dismantle the constitutional principles of America.

It’s a tidal wave of subliminal messaging to the left that Republicans, conservatives aren’t going to roll over for intimidation tactics or politically correct bombardment anymore.

Perhaps previous career politicians are learning a thing or two from President Donald Trump and his take-no-prisoners, never-back-away from a fight ideology.

It’s what all of us in main street America have been looking for in representation for decades. It’s the fortitude to stand up and fight for what is right.

And if heretofore spineless Republicans don’t want to learn it from Trump, maybe Vice President Mike Pence gave them an example to follow, according to a report from Fox News.

After the historic tectonic shift of Saturday’s Senate vote that Kavanaugh, Pence made a formidable show of strength against strategies that were previously effective in causing Republicans to cower beneath their desks for fear of losing public support.

He confronted a congregation of anti-Kavanaugh supporters head on.

Fox News reported: “Vice President Mike Pence refused to exit the Capitol building through a side entrance as he faced a horde of protesters shouting ‘Shame! Shame! Shame!’ following the confirmation of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh on Saturday.”

While the vice president had other options, he consciously chose to confront protesters that he knew would be agitated and abrasive, instead of avoiding the situation.

“Pence was exiting toward the Senate steps with his security detail when he appeared to pause when a large crowd of demonstrators across the plaza increased their chanting as the doors opened to reveal the vice president,” Fox reported.

“Assistant Sergeant-at-Arms Jim Morehand reportedly told Pence that he could exit through the Carriage Entrance if he preferred.”

But no. The vice president was resolute in not being intimidated and manipulated by opposition.

“Let’s do it,” Pence said. And with that the doors opened to a crowd of defiant protestors.

Fox reported that Pence walked toward his motorcade waving to demonstrators along the way.

If that doesn’t send a message, I don’t know what does.

And in other successful messaging of the day, the vice president issued a statement regarding Kavanaugh’s confirmation that declared the new justince would have the “prayers and esteem of millions of Americans” as he begins his work.

The vice president is correct in that Saturday was a historic day. A justice was confirmed to the Supreme Court after a long and arduous battle.

It’s also historic in that we have hopefully seen a permanent shift in the attitudes of Republicans to never more cower to leftist pressure and intimidation tactics.

Let’s hope that we see more  defiance by Republicans who shun the bully tactics of the left.
