Tallahassee Tremors: A Florida dynasty ends and a state capital worries

Poor Gwen Graham, daughter of legendary Florida Governor and Senator Bob Graham, who spent more than a quarter of a century in those two statewide elective offices.  She desperately wants a government job, but not just any government job.  In fact, she had one.  She once was the House of Representative District Two Congresswoman for two years.  From all appearances, she did a competent job.  That was until the Florida Legislature gerrymandered her out of it.  The district was divided into such a way that the newly created districts mostly favored Republican voters.  Gwen didn’t have a chance and didn’t run for any of them.  Poor Gwen.

She quietly went back into private life, until she woke up one day and decided to become governor.  She ran hard and had the political winds to her back.  She had a record to run on, a strong base of support, money, a campaign apparatus still in place and a legendary last name. That was until the lowly upstart Mayor of Tallahassee kept her from it.

Mayor Andrew Gillum had trailed throughout the primary season.  In fact, Mayor Gillum trailed a distant fourth place and was in no shape to overcome two millionaires and a billionaire ahead of him.  It wasn’t until the final election night that Mayor Gillum did the impossible.  He snatched victory from the jaws of defeat.  It was a glorious evening for him and his supporters.  Poor Tallahassee.

The people of Tallahassee think they belong to an underappreciated quiet metropolis of sorts that belongs on the main stage.  The Tallahassee underbelly is many Tallahasseans are liberals and believe in a benevolent dictator-style leadership.  They despise rough and rumble (small d) democratic politics where people can say what they think and do what they please.  No, instead, the city succeeds in perpetuating group think by using an unlimited supply of taxpayer cash for television commercials reminding people to pick up their pets’ poop, or to recycle.  Forget about any discussion of the effectiveness of these programs — I can’t count how many “friends” I have lost because I voted for Trump.  This town is bent on accepting whatever mantra is spouted from the DNC or any other liberal organization.

However, this town is home to Mayor Gillum.  Both of which are unfortunately under FBI investigation.  He is being investigated for his alleged acceptance of sporting tickets, plane trips, junkets in New York City and, unbelievably, how his close aide landed a nicely taxpayer subsidized contract for prime commercial real estate in a newly developed section of downtown.   The City of the Tallahassee is being investigated for its Community Redevelopment Authority (CRA).  It is a nice name with a nice mission description, but in reality, it is nothing more than a slush fund for city officials to award taxpayer subsidized contracts to friends, family and contributors, usually three in one.  The timing could not be worse for Mayor Gillum or Tallahassee.

Mayor Gillum is exactly the kind of governor this city wants.  He is comfortable with handing out political favors and jobs and he  seems to see himself as a kind of political lord with a serfdom to manage.    He would easily move across the street from City Hall into the Governor’s Office.  He would appoint those most loyal to him and will expect favors in return.  This is how things used to be run in Tallahassee until Republicans showed up and won elections.

The primary election of Mayor Gillum will shine a spotlight so intense on this town, and I hope that Tallahassee will melt in the glare.  It has too many political skeletons in its closet and will gladly accept a Gillum defeat in November.  More than anything else, Tallahassee does not want a dose of reality to force it to change its ways.  Like most other liberals I know of, they like to live in a world of make believe.  Poor Tallahassee.

Buzz Aldrin Slams ‘First Man’ Movie Controversy, Posts Photos Of US Flag On Moon With ‘Proud To Be American’ Hashtag

Update to this story.

Via Fox News:

Legendary Apollo 11 astronaut Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin took a swipe at the upcoming movie “First Man” late Sunday for its director’s decision not to show the planting of the American flag on the moon during the historic 1969 mission.

Aldrin, 88, who was the second man to step on the moon, behind crewmate Neil Armstrong, posted historical photos of the flag-planting and added the hashtag “Proud to be an American.”

Armstrong, who died at age 82 in 2012, is the subject of “First Man,” which stars Ryan Gosling and is scheduled to hit theaters next month.

In previous posts Saturday, Aldrin shared photos of himself wearing a T-shirt with the tagline “Buzz Aldrin, Future Martian” that shows an astronaut planting the American flag on the Red Planet.

He also retweeted a photo of himself saluting while standing next to an enlarged photo from the Apollo 11 mission that includes the flag on the moon.[…]

But on Friday, Rick and Mark Armstrong, sons of the late astronaut, along with biographer James R. Hansen, released a statement pushing back against criticism and saying director Damien Chazelle’s film is “quite the opposite” of being “anti-American.”

They added that the remarks about the film have been made largely by those who haven’t actually seen the movie yet.

“This story is human and it is universal. Of course, it celebrates an America achievement. It also celebrates an achievement ‘for all mankind,’” the statement said, adding that “the filmmakers chose to focus on Neil looking back at the earth, his walk to Little West Crater, his unique, personal experience of completing this journey, a journey that has seen so many incredible highs and devastating lows.”

Liberal American Bar Association Gives Brett Kavanaugh A Unanimous Well-Qualified Rating

Time to get the show on the road and get Kavanaugh confirmed.

Via Townhall:

The American Bar Association, an organization historically accused of liberal bias, has given President Donald J. Trump’s most recent Supreme Court nominee a unanimous well-qualified rating according to their report released today.

The American Bar Association has long been known for its liberal biases while giving out ratings of well-qualified, qualified, or not qualified for federally nominated judges. In 2009, President Obama restored the associations status which allowed it receives early information on soon-to-be federally nominated judges. The theory was that the ABA, which is supposed to be ideologically neutral, could then rank these nominated judges with the aforementioned score guide to help guide senators in whether or not they supported a nominee for a federal judgeship.

At the time during President Obama’s first year in office, studies found “indications that liberal nominees do better in the process than conservative ones. The latest, to be presented next month at the Midwest Political Science Association, found evidence consistent with ideological bias.

‘Holding all other factors constant,’ the study found, ‘those nominations submitted by a Democratic president were significantly more likely to receive higher A.B.A. ratings than nominations submitted by a Republican president.’”

Over the next eight years, their bias was so bad that Sen. Ben Sasse (R-NE) penned an op-ed haranguing the association for pretending to be neutral when in reality they are anything but and encouraging fellow senators ti ignore their recommendations.

Actions Have Consequences: Tourism Way Down in Lexington, Virginia After Red Hen Abuses Sarah Sanders

Actions Have Consequences: Tourism Way Down in Lexington, Virginia After Red Hen Abuses Sarah Sanders

White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders and her family were kicked out of a rural Virginia restaurant on a Friday night in June.

Sanders and her family were booted out of The Red Hen Restaurant in Lexington, Virginia because they are Trump supporters.

Sarah Sanders tweeted about the intolerant establishment.

Sarah Sanders: “Last night I was told by the owner of Red Hen in Lexington, VA to leave because I work for POTUS and I politely left. Her actions say far more about her than about me. I always do my best to treat people, including those I disagree with, respectfully and will continue to do so”

Of course liberals cheered this abusive act and urged more harassment of Trump supporters.

But it wasn’t enough for restaurateur of The Red Hen, Stephanie Wilkinson, to humiliate and kick Sarah Sanders and her family out of the establishment, the restaurant owner then stalked Sanders as she went down the street to another restaurant!
But all is not rosy in Lexington, Virginia.

The small town is suffering following the abusive stunt by the Red Hen.

Regional tourism is WAY DOWN and the town is pulling together funds for digital marketing campaign.

US News reported:

A small town in Virginia is trying to recover its image after The Red Hen restaurant famously refused to serve President Donald Trump’s spokeswoman, Sarah Huckabee Sanders.

The Roanoke Times reported Sunday that a regional tourism board is pulling together emergency funds to boost its digital marketing campaign.

Normally that money is saved. But officials agreed the region is in desperate need of positive coverage.

The tourism board serves Lexington, where The Red Hen is located, and other communities that are about three hours from Washington.

The Red Hen incident in June prompted thousands of a calls and emails to the tourism office. They’re still coming in. The office received a letter on Thursday from a Georgia family that wrote to say it would never return because of what happened.

Trump Fires Back With His Own Incredible Response After McCain Funeral Turns Political

John McCain’s actual election rivals may have been George W. Bush back in 2000 and Barack Obama in 2008, but you’d be forgiven for wondering if they were all on the same team after the late senator’s funeral on Saturday.

“The same team” is even how former President Obama described himself and McCain as he addressed the gathered crowd at the senator’s funeral.

The Arizona lawmaker may have been gone, but the figures he approved to speak at the service definitely seemed to be on the same page when it came to using the memorial service as a platform to join forces against the sitting president of the United States.

Nobody mentioned Donald Trump by name, but as Joseph Curl pointed out at The Daily Wire, it was clear that three of the main speakers — Meghan McCain, Barack Obama, and George W. Bush — were of one mind when it came to backhanding the current president.

“We gather here to mourn the passing of American greatness — the real thing, not cheap rhetoric from men who will never come near the sacrifice he gave so willingly, nor the opportunistic appropriation of those who lived lives of comfort and privilege while he suffered and served,” McCain’s adult daughter Meghan chastised from the podium.

It was a cheap shot directed, without a doubt, at the billionaire Trump.

“The America of John McCain has no need to be made great again because America was always great,” Meghan McCain continued, obviously hammering at Trump’s famous slogan of “Make America Great Again.”

Remember, this was supposed to be a funeral.

Obama joined in when his time came.

Do you think the “team” that slammed Trump at the funeral actually proved his point about the establishment?

“So much of our politics, our public life, our public discourse can seem small and mean and petty, trafficking in bombast and insult and phony controversies and manufactured outrage,” he declared pompously.

“It’s a politics that pretends to be brave and tough but in fact is born in fear. John called on us to be bigger than that. He called on us to be better than that,” stated the former president who beat the deceased in 2008 aided in large part by a media that slandered McCain constantly.

Then George W. Bush, a man who reportedly refused to vote for Trump against Hillary Clinton, took the stage.

“John was above all a man with a code,” Bush stated.

“He led by a set of public virtues that brought strength and purpose to his life and to his country. He was courageous, with a courage that frightened his captors and inspired his countrymen,” Bush said.

“He was honorable, always recognizing that his opponents were still patriots and human beings,” Bush continued, without clarifying what the definition of a patriot was or if every opponent met the criteria.

“He loved freedom with the passion of a man who knew its absence. He respected the dignity inherent in every life, a dignity that does not stop at borders,” Bush continued, likely taking a swipe at Trump’s push for border security.

One Republican president jabbing at another for daring to enforce the nation’s borders, at a funeral. Welcome to 2018.

In response, Trump could have gone on a rant. He could have pushed back against the almost certain efforts to chide him by establishment politicians who have had power for decades — basically, the very people he was elected to counter.

Instead, Trump posted just four words on Twitter on the evening of McCain’s funeral.

It wasn’t a lot. It didn’t have to be.

For Trump opponents, nothing the president said would have mattered.

For Trump supporters, those four words said it all.

James Woods Delivers Reality Check to McCain Funeral & Trump Haters

John McCain’s funeral turned into a political affair, because of course it did.

We’re not going to go through all of the various political statements made during the obloquies for the late war hero and Arizona senator.

Suffice it to say we all know that McCain was used as a stand-in for a kind of “bipartisanship,” even though most of those who spent last week singing McCain’s praises were more than happy to paint the same man as a far-right reactionary unless he was disagreeing with President Donald Trump. Then McCain was diagnosed with cancer and became a full-time bipartisan hero to this section of the peanut gallery.

Now, it’s worth pointing out that Jeff Flake, Arizona’s other senator, isn’t necessarily one of those individuals. Still, the NeverTrump Republican was willing to use McCain as a proxy in his battle against the White House — and conservative actor James Woods was just as willing to point out his hypocrisy.

First, this was the tweet that Flake sent out in the wake of McCain’s funeral, which wasn’t exactly subtle:

TRENDING: MSNBC Posts Disastrous Tweet About Aretha Franklin Attendees, Blatantly Removes Farrakhan from Image

The message was clear: The Trumps weren’t invited. The other first families were. They were decent. Therefore, decency wins out.

Except there was one little problem, as Woods pointed out:

Now, it’s worth noting that Bill Clinton is an alleged rapist. However, there are plenty of people who believe there’s a pretty strong case for it, and not all of them are Republicans.

Take, for instance, MSNBC’s Chris Hayes:

Sure, Hayes may think that the right’s belief that Bill Clinton ought to be held to account for real rape allegations that have been levied against for many years (as opposed to a raft of specious allegations that emerged right around election time for Donald Trump) is “cynical and hypocritical,” but he believes that, yes, maybe we ought to consider the possibility that Clinton is a rapist.

Oh, and just in case you were still on the fence here, decency didn’t win at another funeral the former president attended last week:

RELATED: James Woods Breaks His Silence on Armstrong Biopic, Unloads on ‘Flag-Hating Liberals’

If you’re going to politicize John McCain’s funeral, using William Jefferson Clinton as a paragon of decency proves how bankrupt this entire “bipartisanship” argument was.

Do you think that those politicizing McCain’s death are being hypocritical?

There was no bipartisanship when Juanita Broaddrick or Kathleen Willey came forward with accusations against Bill Clinton.

Both of these women were smeared as star-struck fabulists — as was Monica Lewinsky, until the White House realized she had a certain blue dress. And the swamp-dwellers in Washington considered this guy’s presence preferable to that of Donald J. Trump because, you know, “decency.”

If decency and bipartisanship ever won in the Washington establishment, Clinton would have been sitting in the Richard Nixon section for disgraced former presidents forced to leave office. Funny how that didn’t work back in 1998 — or really, any time McCain or other Republicans weren’t doing the Democrats’ bidding.

Thankfully, James Woods gave the media (and Jeff Flake) a bit of a reality check.

All Hail Diversity! NYC Schools To Give Priority To Predominantly Black And Hispanic Kids

White kids will have to rely on white privilege.

A diversity drive is spreading across the city as 78 schools in 14 of the city’s 32 community districts now boast plans that will give admission priority to predominantly black and Hispanic kids — and more schools will soon follow, a Post analysis found.

The patchwork of plans, while still limited in scope — the city has 1,800 schools — amounts to the biggest de-segregation movement in Big Apple schools since the late-1950s Civil Rights era, when there was an abortive program to bus black kids from Bedford-Stuyvesant and East Harlem to white areas in Queens, a top scholar said.

“I cannot think of any other time where there have been such efforts to try to alter the racial or ethnic makeup of New York City schools,” said Stephan Brumberg, a professor emeritus of education history at Brooklyn College and the CUNY Graduate Center.

A landmark 2014 UCLA study found NYC public schools the nation’s most racially segregated, with black and Latino students concentrated in public schools with less than 10 percent white enrollment.

Citywide, the current racial breakdown of NYC’s public-school students is 41 percent Hispanic, 26 percent black, 16 percent Asian, 15 percent white, and 2 percent “mixed.”

Last year, 49 schools were on board the city Department of Education’s “Diversity in Admissions” pilot initiative, offering a variety of pre-K to high-school seats to English-language learners and kids from low-income families, in the child-welfare system, or with parents in jail.

The DOE could not say Friday how last year’s offers affected enrollment in the school year that starts Wednesday, saying the data won’t be finalized until fall.

This year, another 29 schools have joined the initiative, with admission policies affecting kids entering schools in 2019-20.

New schools Chancellor Richard Carranza has embraced diversity efforts more aggressively than Mayor de Blasio, who hired him.

Within two months on the job, Carranza green-lighted a controversial plan in District 3 on the Upper West Side to reserve 25 percent of seats in 16 middle schools for low-income students with low test scores and grades. Carranza fueled the fire when he retweeted a news headline that blasted “white, wealthy parents” who were angry that their kids might be shut out of the best schools.

Carranza is now poised to approve a far more ambitious plan that has divided parents in Brooklyn’s District 15, including affluent neighborhoods like Park Slope. It will eliminate all academic-based admission criteria at 16 middle schools — and reserve 52 percent of seats for low-income, English-learning and homeless applicants.

Some Park Slope parents have told The Post the schools should keep some admission criteria, but fear speaking up lest they be painted as a “racist from 1950s Alabama,” as one mom put it.

Other parents have pushed for the plan. Lauren Gropp Lowry, a white stay-at-home mom with a second grader at high-performing PS 321, said the current system lets schools cherry-pick kids.

“It’s further sorting and segregating our children in a city that’s too segregated,” she said. “The highest performers end up at just a few schools, and that breeds a sense of entitlement in children and parents. But the highest-performing students are not always the hardest working.”

Pirro: Trump Was ‘Framed’ by Mueller, Weissmann

During Sunday’s “The Cats Roundtable” on New York AM 970 radio, Fox News “Justice” host Jeanine Pirro declared that President Donald Trump was “framed” in “an attempt to prevent the outsider” from being elected.

“[W]e find out on Friday that Andrew Weissmann – the top dog of the Mueller prosecution or special counsel team – he was involved with Bruce Ohr and knew everything about the dossier: That it was fake, he knew it was false. And, as a result of that, you’ve got a fake dossier being handed to a FISA court judge. And now Mueller is investigating Trump for this? And the truth is that Weissmann knew about it,” Pirro told host John Catsimatidis. “Nobody is looking at the corruption. It’s all one-sided, the corruption on the part of the Democrats. And this president was framed, John. It’s that simple.”

She continued, “I’ve been law enforcement for over three decades. This guy was framed. And he was framed by all the same players. … The crisscrossing and the incestuous nature of our government in an attempt to prevent the outsider president that we wanted from getting elected is frightening.”

Flashback: John McCain’s Obamacare Vote Showed He Hated Trump More Than He Loved His Country (VIDEO)

Flashback: John McCain’s Obamacare Vote Showed He Hated Trump More Than He Loved His Country (VIDEO)

Never forget.

John McCain ran his 2016 campaign on the promise to repeal Obamacare.

Then when the time came to vote to vote to repeal John McCain famously killed it.

McCain walked on the senate floor and famously gave the thumbs down.

John McCain was a liar.
Insurance costs went up over 100% in Arizona under Obamacare.

Now here’s something that is not widely known.
After McCain voted against the repeal of Obamacare he cozied up to Chuck Schumer and said, “Let’s see Donald make America great again now.”

John McCain hated Trump more than he loved his country.
