For many years, Democrats seemed to take the black vote for granted. The left widely assumed that areas with strong African-American populations would go blue in every election, and didn’t see the need to work very hard for those votes.

They weren’t entirely wrong. During the 2008 election, for example, a staggering 95 percent of black voters sided with Barack Obama — a fact that is not all that surprising given the demographics of that match-up.

But that was a decade ago. Since the first black president took office, the number of African-American voters siding with Democrats in presidential elections has gradually declined.

It went from 95 to 93 percent in 2012, and then again dropped to 89 percent in 2016. Without a doubt, those are still incredibly high numbers, but the decrease is a sign that the left may be slipping when it comes to connecting with black Americans.

Now, there are more indications that black culture is shifting. A number of fresh voices are beginning to question the assumption that Democrats are on their side, and realizing that conservatism can be a path forward for all races.

One of those voices is Darrell Scott, a pastor in the Cleveland area. During a meeting between President Donald Trump and inner-city urban leaders on Wednesday, Scott made a surprising statement that ought to have liberals scrambling.

“This is probably the most pro-active administration regarding urban America and the faith-based community in my lifetime,” the African-American pastor declared to the group, according to The Associated Press.

“This is probably going be … the most pro-black president that we’ve had in our lifetime,” Scott said.

Yes, that includes Barack Obama — a contrast that the inner-city community leader talked about during his remarks.

“This president (Donald Trump) actually wants to prove something to our community, our faith-based community and our ethnic community,” he explained.

“The last president didn’t feel like he had to,” Scott continued, referring to Obama. “He got a pass.”

It’s hard to argue with success, and Trump’s presidency has so far been a rousing success for minority Americans. Unemployment among both African-Americans and Hispanics is at historic lows, and there is a strong sense of optimism for the future of the country.

“When we say hire American, we mean all Americans,” Trump said during Wednesday’s meeting.

That philosophy has caught the attention of several popular black figures in addition to Scott. Among them is outspoken conservative speaker Candace Owens, who in turn inspired rap icon Kanye West to make conservative-leaning remarks.

West’s equally famous wife, Kim Kardashian, has also met with the president in order to persuade him to free an elderly black grandmother who was imprisoned for minor drug offenses decades ago.

None of these individual pieces of the puzzle mean that the left will lose its dominance of the black vote. When viewed together as part of a larger trend, however, they point to a shift in the culture — and liberals may be in for quite a surprise in the coming years.

An internal seven-month investigation at the Federal Emergency Management Agency uncovered disturbing sexual assault allegations against the agency’s former chief component human capital officer.

The Washington Post obtained an executive summary of the preliminary investigation and reported that Corey Coleman allegedly hired women so male co-workers could try to have sexual relations with them.

Coleman resigned on June 18 after leading the personnel department since 2011. Officials have reportedly not been able to question him since his resignation.

FEMA Administrator William “Brock” Long said that this alleged harassment and misconduct has been a “systemic problem going on for years.” He added that some of the reported behavior could “rise to the level of criminal activity,” according to The Post.

Although Coleman’s name was redacted from the preliminary report, FEMA officials confirmed he was the individual under investigation.

According to the report, Coleman hired male friends as well as women he met at bars and on dates, and he allegedly promoted some of these people to other agency roles without going through the proper federal hiring protocols.

He also reportedly “had sexual relationships with at least two subordinates, one in 2015 and another in 2017-’18,” according to Vox. These women accompanied him on work trips, though one admitted to having very few duties while on these trips.

“When the first woman ended the relationship, Coleman pressured her for dates — then denied her a promotion and tried to fire her, she told FEMA investigators. She said she kept her job by telling him she might be willing to go on dates with him again, according to the preliminary report,” The Post reported.

“When the second woman said she wanted to leave FEMA, Coleman created a new position for her for which she admitted to investigators she was unqualified. He also allowed her to sometimes work from his house, the report said.”

In a statement, Long said, “These allegations are deeply disturbing and harassment of any kind will not be tolerated at FEMA.”

He told The Post that 73 current and former employees were interviewed, and 98 people gave sworn statements about this issue. Additionally, people in the human resources department left over the years because of Coleman’s “unacceptable leadership style, good people who wouldn’t put up with it,” according to Long.

Long has reportedly referred several of the cases to the Department of Homeland Security’s inspector general. The first complaints about Coleman were received in 2015, but it is unclear if the previous administration followed through with the investigation referral.

“The biggest problem I may solve here may be the eradication of this cancer,” he said. “How many complaints were not heard? I’ve got to make sure we have a safe working environment for our employees.”

Long told The Post that there was such low morale in Coleman’s department that he was placed on the sidelines in three different instances, but “each time, he was allowed back to his job.”

A study by the Merit Systems Protection Board from this past spring found that 20.9 percent of female employees reported experiencing any kind of sexual harassment within the previous two years.

Furthermore, 45 percent of employees reported that their co-workers were the ones committing sexual harassment, and 12 percent reported that it was their higher level supervisor.

This kind of behavior is sickening and unacceptable in any organization, but especially in a government entity! Someone needs to rectify this situation and create a safe workspace for everyone.

A young man was stopped at a red light in Hyannis, Massachusetts, June 30 when he heard the driver behind him honking her horn, according to the Cape Cod Times.

He continued driving and the woman followed him, still beeping her horn. At the next light, she started yelling at him.

“I could hear her screaming out of the car or something, so I thought man maybe something’s wrong with my car,” the man, who asked not to be identified, told WBZ-TV in Boston. “I get out, all of a sudden I hear, ‘You’re racist,’ and a bunch of cuss words.”

It turns out the woman was angry about the sticker on the back of his SUV supporting President Donald Trump.

“The first thing she said when I came out of the car was, ‘Did you vote for Trump?’ and I was like, ‘Yeah, what of it?’ And that was pretty much what triggered this. It was like nonstop,” he said.

The man told police the woman drove around his SUV, prompting him to lean back into the open driver’s-side door. She then drove toward him and hit the door, according to the police report.

“She bent my door and I had to lean back to avoid getting hit,” the man told police. “She also hit the side of my car.”

The man recorded the incident on his phone, according to police, and the video shows the woman drive her gray Honda Civic around his SUV and hit the open door before driving away.

“Her tire was right next to my foot,” the man told WBZ. “That could have ended really bad.”

The Civic’s license plate is visible in the video, and police traced the car to 25-year-old Chloe Wright of Taunton, Massachusetts.

The man identified a license photo of Wright as the woman who had hit his car, according to police.

It took police a month to find her. She was stopped by a state trooper Monday in Bourne after a random check of her license plate revealed an open warrant for her arrest.

Wright was taken into custody and charged with assault with a dangerous weapon, vandalizing property and leaving the scene of property damage, according to the Times. She appeared in court Monday and pleaded not guilty.

While this man wasn’t seriously injured, it seems like it’s only a matter of time before the anger driven by hateful rhetoric from anti-Trump liberals will lead to someone being hospitalized or killed just for supporting the president. Since the left’s cries of “racist,” “facist” and “Nazi” don’t appear to be slowing down, Trump supporters should remain vigilant — even when they’re just driving through town.
