Hamas Border Mayhem: Thousands Throng Israel Barrier, Attack IDF Troops, Launch Terror Kites

Approximately 10,000 Palestinian rioters thronged the Gaza border Friday in ongoing mass chaos planned by the Hamas terrorist organization with the stated goal of storming into Israel and murdering Jews.

The rioters burned tires to obscure the views of the Israeli military, and also hurled rockets, grenades and pipe bombs at the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).  One burning terror kite carrying an explosive device detonated in the air, the IDF said.

More terror kites carrying burning objects were launched into Israel intended to start large-scale fires, the IDF said.

Hamas leader in Gaza Ismail Haniyeh made clear Thursday that the point of today’s riot campaign is to “bring down the walls” protecting Israel from the Gaza Strip.

As the IDF noted in a tweet, Hamas leader Yahwa Sinwar recently declared of the Gaza riots: “We will tear down the fence, and tear out the hearts from their bodies!”

The Hamas-run Gaza health ministry claims that 386 Palestinians have been injured so far, five seriously.   The casualty numbers, which are expected to rise as today’s riots continue, could not be immediately verified. Hamas has a history of exaggerating casualty claims.

The IDF says it is “responding with riot dispersal means and are operating in accordance with the rules of engagement.”

While the protests are ongoing on Friday, the numbers that showed up so far must be a disappointment for Hamas, which has been aiming to get 100,000 or more at one time to attend its moths-long border riots campaign.

This reporter previously analyzed the motivations for the Hamas border mayhem:

Why the riots now?

First there is Iran. Earlier on Monday, Israel’s Shin Bet security service revealed it possesses information that Iran is funding some of Hamas’ riots. The Iranians have an interest in riding the wave of Gaza violence to deflect the IDF’s attention from Syria, where Israel has carried out numerous bombing raids that have reportedly devastated Iranian military positions and Iran-run bases in that country. Iran is also seeking revenge for those Israeli strikes and for Trump’s decision to withdraw from the international nuclear accord.

Then there are prominent internal Hamas considerations. The Islamist terrorist group understands the Gaza population is frustrated that 11 years of Hamas rule has resulted in destructive wars – launched each time by Hamas itself – and an economy dangerously teetering on the brink of collapse. Hamas’s decision to turn Gaza into a terrorist enclave has prompted an Israel-Egypt boycott that has impacted all aspects of Gaza life, although Israel allows for truckloads of humanitarian goods and supplies per day to enter Gaza.

Gazans are also suffering from the Hamas-Fatah divide, with the rulers of the West Bank and Gaza Strip failing to reach a reconciliation agreement that would likely result in a flow of aid to Gaza.

Hamas views Israel’s 70th anniversary, yesterday’s Jerusalem Day, and President Donald Trump’s historic relocation of the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem as perfect opportunities to channel Gazans’ anger and redirect the rage toward the easiest target – Israel.

Hamas correctly estimated that the ensuing casualty count will bring international news media attention to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and thrust the issue to the center of the foreign policy debate.  The terrorist group couldn’t ask for a better publicity gift than major international news networks – reportedly including CNN, Sky News and the BBC – featuring today’s Hamas riots on a split screen with the opening ceremony for the new U.S. embassy.

The border clashes may also press Egypt into easing the blockade and putting Egyptian pressure on Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas’s Fatah party to reach a reconciliation deal, since Gaza tensions usually favor the jihadists operating against Egypt in the Sinai. Abbas must fear that the protests could spread to the West Bank and threaten his rule there.

And finally, Hamas has been cash-strapped lately after many of its state patrons reportedly pulled some of their financing. The Gaza riot campaign, with help from the international news media, puts Hamas back at the forefront and signals that it is useful to financially support the terrorist movement once again. This as Hamas leads the people of Gaza down the path of destruction.

Now activists don’t want facial recognition in schools?

People have rightly been demanding better security in our nation’s schools to guard against mass shooting situations. In response, some tech companies have been pitching cameras with facial recognition software and limited artificial intelligence to keep an eye on who is coming and going on campus. This technology is still relatively new and imperfect, but it’s been improving of late. Being able to quickly scan the people entering and leaving the school, comparing the faces to those who are supposed to be there and looking for strangers – and particularly those on watch lists – might prevent a tragedy or at least hasten the arrival of help.

Still, as the Washington Post article points out, privacy activists are already raising the alarm and claiming that this is a terrible idea.

“We’ve gotten no answers to all these questions: Under what conditions can a kid’s face be put into the system? Does the district need parental consent? Who can do a facial-recognition search?” said Jim Shultz, whose 15-year-old daughter goes to a high school in Upstate New York that is paying millions to install a surveillance network offering facial recognition. “It’s as if somebody presented them with a cool new car and they didn’t bother to look under the hood.”…

Andrew Ferguson, a law professor at the University of the District of Columbia, said surveillance companies are preying on the dread of community leaders by selling experimental “security theater” systems that only offer the appearance of safer schools.

“These companies are taking advantage of the genuine fear and almost impotence of parents who want to protect their kids,” he said, “and they’re selling them surveillance technology at a cost that will do very little to protect them.”

Are there still bugs to be worked out with these systems and challenges specific to using them in schools? As with any new technology, of course there are. Children’s faces change quickly as they grow and are harder to pick out than those of adults. And the software still makes mistakes. There will always be room for improvement. But is that any reason not to at least try? If the system can be told to watch for a particular face of a person who has made threats and it can identify them coming in the door it could mean the difference between life and death. If a child goes missing, knowing when they were last seen on campus could provide a significant lead to authorities.

But most of these complaints seem to be focused on the privacy issue. If you’re going to let that stop you, we’re not going to make much progress. Once again this seems to boil down to a conversation that liberals never want to have. It plays out something like this:

Liberal: We need to protect the children in our schools!
Conservative: Agreed. We should have armed security guards.
L: Nope. That just brings more guns into the system. Start banning all the guns.
C: How about if we lock some of the doors and control access at the rest?
L: Nope. Might be a fire hazard. Start banning all the guns.
C: Maybe if we put in this facial recognition thing to keep an eye out for known predators and threats?
L: Nope. Might violate somebody’s privacy. Start banning all the guns.

In the end, the people supporting all of these “save the students” rallies appear to have only one thing in mind. They want new laws banning more guns. That’s kind of a pity because there are some other options under discussion which might actually make the schools more secure. They just don’t want to hear about them.

ABC Apologizes For Spreading ‘Myth Of Hindu Terror’ After Backlash Against Actress

After actress Priyanka Chopra became the target of harassment and outrage, ABC has apologized for a recent episode of “Quantico” featuring what one Hindu scholar slammed as “the myth of Hindu terror.”

A recent episode of “Quantico,” which stars Chopra — a 35-year-old actress who has successfully crossed over to Hollywood from Bollywood — involved Indian nationalists attempting to frame Pakistan for a terrorist bombing in New York. After the show aired, Chopra became the target of online attacks and calls for boycotts of her work and the brands she promotes, among them Samsung, Reuters reports.

One particular scene earned the ire of critics, who called for it to be blacked out: As evidence that one of the plotters is an Indian nationalist, Chopra holds up sacred Hindu prayer beads.

“The myth of Hindu terror, by a fake story, enters American television with the help of Priyanka Chopra. Would any Pakistani actress betray Pakistan or Islam the way she betrays India and Hinduism?” wrote Hindu scholar David Frawley in a tweet.

ABC has since issued an apology and attempted to shield Chopra from the misdirected outrage.

“The episode has stirred a lot of emotion, much of which is unfairly aimed at Priyanka Chopra, who didn’t create the show, nor does she write or direct it,” said ABC in a statement Friday reported by Reuters.

“The show has featured antagonists of many different ethnicities and backgrounds, but in this case we inadvertently and regrettably stepped into a complex political issue. It was certainly not our intention to offend anyone,” ABC said.

Reuters notes that Hindu nationalists have repeatedly criticized films and other products of popular culture in recent years. Backlash against actor Aamir Khan in 2016 over his comments about the problem of intolerance in India resulted in Snapdeal letting him go, while earlier this year, “a fringe outfit held violent protests and threatened actors over the release of Bollywood film ‘Padmaavat,’ which showed a Muslim ruler pursuing a Hindu queen.”

You’re Not Paranoid: Your Phone Really IS Listening To You

Everyone has a story. Like my daughter, Kelsey, who said a while back she was talking to her boyfriend on her cellphone, asking him to pick up some NyQuil on his way home. Hours later, there were ads on her Facebook page for … NyQuil.

Coincidence? Nuh uh. Phones have microphones and they can be turned on by different applications at nearly any time. Worse, you’ve agreed to let them do it (in those interminable terms of service agreements no one ever reads).

The BBC last year ran a great story — “Is your phone listening in? Your stories” — compiling a slew of anecdotes, like this one: “My fiancee and I both had wedding ads the day after we got engaged, before we had told anyone.”

Now, Sam Nichols at Vice has written a great piece subtitled “Here’s how I got to bottom of the ads-coinciding-with-conversations mystery.” In it, Nichols breaks it down simply, with insights from Dr. Peter Hannay, the senior security consultant for cybersecurity firm Asterisk and former lecturer and researcher at Edith Cowan University.

For your smartphone to actually pay attention and record your conversation, there needs to be a trigger, such as when you say “hey Siri” or “okay Google.” In the absence of these triggers, any data you provide is only processed within your own phone. This might not seem a cause for alarm, but any third party applications you have on your phone—like Facebook for example—still have access to this “non-triggered” data. And whether or not they use this data is really up to them.

“From time to time, snippets of audio do go back to [other apps like Facebook’s] servers but there’s no official understanding what the triggers for that are,” explains Peter. “Whether it’s timing or location-based or usage of certain functions, [apps] are certainly pulling those microphone permissions and using those periodically. All the internals of the applications send this data in encrypted form, so it’s very difficult to define the exact trigger.”

Hannay says social media sites and other apps might have thousands of triggers to determine when your cellphone becomes a microphone, sending your voice into massive data banks. So Nichols tried an experiment: “Twice a day for five days, I tried saying a bunch of phrases that could theoretically be used as triggers. Phrases like I’m thinking about going back to uni and I need some cheap shirts for work. Then I carefully monitored the sponsored posts on Facebook for any changes.”

The changes came literally overnight. Suddenly I was being told mid-semester courses at various universities, and how certain brands were offering cheap clothing. A private conversation with a friend about how I’d run out of data led to an ad about cheap 20 GB data plans. And although they were all good deals, the whole thing was eye-opening and utterly terrifying.

So yes, you’re not paranoid: Big brother really IS listening.

Public Library Invites Children To ‘Drag Queen Story Hours’

Children in Minnesota are welcome to partake in “drag queen story hours” at the public library this summer.

According to LifeSiteNews, the wholly taxpayer-funded St. Paul Public Library is putting on these events as part of its “inclusivity” campaign. Little children can serve witness to this at various locations.

Planning the event will be the adult-centered party company Flip Phone Events, which typically caters to the 18 and older crowd, not little kids. The event is scheduled for June 11, June 16, and July 11.

“Come meet some fabulous drag queens and kings at the library!” reads an ad for the June 11 reading. “They will read stories, sing songs, and strut their stuff for an over-the-top story hour. All ages welcome.”

After parents started unsurprisingly expressing outrage, which Flip Phone Events described as “MEGA troll[ing],” the organization asked its Twitter followers to defend them online. Speaking with Alpha News, parents expressed concern over the event, though they refused to go on record.

“In addition to Drag Story Hour, patrons can find a selection of staff-recommended materials on the library’s website for Pride, including a fun primer on drag culture with recommended DVDs, books, and online resources,” the library said in a press release about the event, while recommending 21 “great LGBTQIA” books for little children. They call this the “Rainbow Collection.”

“Drag queen story hours” have become a new trend at public libraries around the country as a way to give kids “glamorous, positive, and unabashedly queer role models,” according to the group’s national website. “In spaces like this, kids are able to see people who defy rigid gender restrictions and imagine a world where people can present as they wish.”

Secret Service Agent Had Warned Stoneman Douglas About Security Failures

Via Sun Sentinel:

Two months before the massacre at Stoneman Douglas High School, a retired Secret Service agent warned administrators that the school could be vulnerable to a gunman.

Gates were unlocked. Students did not wear identification badges. A fire alarm could send students streaming into the halls. Active-shooter drills were inadequate, he said.

The retired agent, Steve Wexler, said he made his point by strolling through the school with Post-it notes, attaching them to places his bullets or knife would land if he were an intruder. No one stopped him, he said.

In an interview with the South Florida Sun Sentinel, Wexler said he was invited to analyze the school’s security and presented his recommendations to four staff members.

“I said, ‘This stuff is blatantly obvious. You’ve got to fix this,’” Wexler said.

He never heard another word from the district, he said.

DILLON: Paul Nehlen: A Man Without Courage, A Heart, Or A Brain

On Thursday, Paul Nehlen, a candidate for Congress in Wisconsin, gave me a new nickname: “Ben’s philosemetic [sic] flying monkey.”

Nehlen gave me my new nickname in an email to his supporters. This comes after I published an article on Monday discussing Virginia Senate candidate Corey Stewart and his ties to Nehlen.

“In an article written for Ben’s publication, Kassy Dillon further ingratiates herself as Ben’s philosemetic flying monkey,” he writes. “[A]ttacking none other than the GOP frontrunner in Virginia, Corey Stewart, for supporting my run against globalist NeverTrumper Paul Ryan.”

Nehlen is known for his toxic, anti-Semitic views and brutal attacks on his political opponents. Nehlen’s campaign collapsed in January after his overtly racist and anti-Semitic social media posts surfaced, but the candidate didn’t admit any wrongdoing — he blamed Jews. Nehlen compiled a list of 81 verified, predominantly Jewish, Twitter users who have “attacked” him for his “#AmericaFirst positions.”

Despite the fact that I am not Jewish, I was included on this list, along with a few other non-Jews.

Apparently, anyone who disagrees with Nehlen is either a flying monkey or a Jew.

While I am devastated that my original label of a Jew was lowered to “Ben’s philosemetic [sic] flying monkey,” I am excited to try out my newfound flying superpower.

It also appears that Shapiro, the wicked witch of the Western Wall, enjoys his new role as the Wicked Witch of the West:

Nehlen’s statement goes on to describe himself and Stewart as “fervent Trump supporters,” despite Trump backing Paul Ryan over him in their race against each other, and Stewart’s firing from the Trump campaign.

Stewart distanced himself from Nehlen earlier this week, saying, “That was before he went nuts and started spewing a bunch of stupid stuff. When he started saying all that crazy stuff, I wanted nothing to do with him after that.”

Sorry Nehlen, three clicks of your ruby red slippers won’t make you relevant again. Twitter user Jerry Dunleavy, who Nehlen has targeted in the past, got it right:

P.S. This flying monkey disobeyed her handler’s request to not use sarcasm in this article.

Robert De Niro Starts Raging ‘Bulls**t’ In Front Of High Schoolers

Actor Robert De Niro does not discriminate as to where, and in front of whom, he chooses to rage his “bulls**t” — so that sometimes includes high school students.

According to Page Six, the former “Taxi Driver” star said in front of a crowd of high school students that President Trump is spreading “bulls**t.” The actor delivered his comments during an awards ceremony for student recipients of the Rosemary Breslin American Writer Award in New York.

“The one characteristic that comes through all of your work that I read, and that is the same quality of everything that Jimmy Breslin wrote, is the truth,” De Niro said. “Our country is led by a president who believes he can make up his own truth. And we have a word for that — bulls**t.”

“So what about the truth? What does the truth even mean today? I mean, if you’re Donald Trump it doesn’t mean anything,” he continued.

De Niro’s candid speech was received with rounds of applause. This marks the second time the actor used a gala to spew his political screed. Speaking at a charity fundraising dinner for the Fulfillment Fund in March, an organization helping underprivileged children receive a higher education, De Niro seized the moment to brandish his woke cred.

“A college education is important, but education without humanity is ignorance,” began De Niro. “Look at our president. He made it through the University of Pennsylvania, so he was exposed to a quality education, but he’s still an idiot. And he lacks any sense of humanity or compassion.”

De Niro also described the president as a “lowlife” in a speech at the Annual Hudson River Park Gala last year. The actor appears to ponder on President Trump both day and night.

“F**k you, Donald Trump. It’s a horror with this motherf**ker,” he said.

The actor has also stated he has no interest in seeing the point-of-view of Trump supporters, saying the conversation has moved “beyond that.”

14-Year-Old German Girl Found Murdered, Asylum Seeker Suspect Flees to Iraq

The Iraqi migrant suspected of having killed a 14-year-old girl is understood to have been able to flee to his own nation despite having previously been claiming asylum from persecution in his homeland.

Police found 14-year-old Susanna F. from Mainz on Wednesday near a railway line after she had been missing since May 22nd and announced that they believed the girl was killed as a result of violence. They have not ruled out possible sexual abuse, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung reports.

Investigators noted that the prime suspect in the disappearance and suspected murder of the 14-year-old is 20-year-old Iraqi failed asylum seeker Ali Bashar. The young migrant had been living in Wiesbaden-Erbenheim and was in the process of appealing his negative asylum decision, and has recently disappeared according to people familiar with him.

The man is said to have flown back to Iraq several days prior to the discovery of the body to be with his family; however, officials believe he may have purposely fled the country to avoid arrest.

According to the Times of Israel, who report the victim in the case was of the Jewish faith, a 35-year-old Turkish citizen has already been arrested in connection with the case.

The Central Council of Jews in Germany released a statement on the suspected murder saying: “A young life was ended in a gruesome fashion. Our deepest sympathies are with family and friends. Susanna was a member of the Jewish Community Mainz.”

Police identified Bashar, who had come to Germany in 2015, as a suspect in a number of other prior crimes including robbery with a knife. Police said they believe he fled to the city of Erbil.

The murder comes after several other high-profile murders of young women and girls in Germany like 15-year-old Mia in Kandel and 19-year-old Maria Ladenburger in Freiburg who were both murdered by “underage” asylum seekers who turned out to be adults.

The phenomenon has not been limited to Germany, either, as 18-year-old Pamela Mastropietro in Italy was also suspected of being murdered by migrants from Nigeria earlier this year. Mastropietro was brutally murdered and then her body was dismembered and stuffed into suitcases that were left by the side of the road in the Italian commune of Pollenza.

The murders, along with the many migrant rape attacks and terror attacks across the continent following the migrant crisis, sparked the 120 decibels (#120db) movement, an activist group which protests the mass migration policies they say led to the murders and rapes of young women. The group is named after the sound intensity of rape alarms that can be bought in German stores.
